We have gone to Tokyo bay many times in the past. But they've remodeled and revamped the menu since the last time we've been there. They have pretty good rolls but the prices keep going up and up and the rolls are getting smaller and the fish on the rolls is getting thinner. I used to frequent this place quite a bit but they keep revamping and changing their menus and prices.

Good sushi place fun entertainment try the. Angry dragon. Or. Black pearl. Most of the food is really good have nice. Sesame chicken as well. Service tends to be slow sometimes but that's part of the charm the girls try. Hard there for the most. Part.

This place has two and a half stars so far and I can see why. The usual place I go to (Chopsticks) is closed on Wednesday's, so I figured I would give this a shot. I got a 6pc sushi and edamame appetizer for a total of $19. ???? The sushi tasted and looked cheap, so I'm not exactly sure what I paid that much for. It came with avocado, which I both saw and tasted none of, and the roll looked like it was just made with a blended can of tuna. I won't go back and I recommend you not even bother going here to begin with. Learn from my mistake.

I came here with my cousin a little while ago, and I honestly cannot remember exactly what we ordered. I know I had the Miso soup to start with. It was pretty good and standard. Then we ordered the honey wasabi calamari. LOVED it! The sauce definitely had a kick to it which I liked! We also ordered sushi, but I dont remember exactly what it was. It was tasty though. Overall, we had a good experience.

Too bad we can't put a minus stars!!!! Anyone want warm raw fish? Smells super fishy and I'm not sure of the explanation they gave as to why.... The rice was warm and made the fish warm...... Yuck!!!! One word YUCK!!!!!! I'm not getting food poisoning!!!! The shrimp tempura roll was mediocre at best..... They took the roll back and still charged me as well!!!! Are you kidding me???? My girlfriends California roll had the most over ripe mushy avocado ever!!!! $37.00 for lunch. Never coming back here!!! They did then try to rectify by making me another roll, little too late but there is your star above for that!!

I was brought here by a. Friend despite the negative reviews it had. I am definently happy I gave it a shot!!! If you look at most of my reviews I LOVE sushi, it's a expensive addiction...so when I eat at sushi places I try to ensure that it's worth it. My friend had been raving about this place claiming it was "top notch sushi" man oh man was he right!!! We ordered several rolls, the first two that came out were the dragon rolls...which where awesome they are wrapped in foil and come out on fire!! Then we order probably 10 rolls on a boat...all specialty chef choices! There was not a Single roll I didn't enjoy! They were amazing! So full of flavor...the eel wasn't too fishy tasting or slimy! Each roll was portion great not to big and not full of just rice! The chef recognized my friend and came by and introduced him to us which was nice especially when I found out he was the owner! Overall it's a nice cozy place! We got there late afternoon so the place was well lite from outside lighting as it got darker the staff turned just enough lights to keep it cozy but not completely intimate. It's clean place bathrooms bar etc all very nice! I asked the waitress about karaoke and she said it's a nice touch they have later in the evening on specific nights! I totally think that's an awesome idea! They have a full bar in the middle of the room and separate seating for dinner/ lunch and then an area to completely let loose. I love the concept and will return!

Called this place at 9:20 p.m. after checking the hours on their website, which states they are open until 10 p.m. on Sundays. The person who answered said, "I'm sorry, but we're actually closed". Interesting, I'm perplexed as to why you would answer the phone then...Clearly my business is not needed/wanted, but it certainly should be given that there are multiple high quality competitors in the area.

Went here for my birthday. Sushi was just ok. Salads were offered with only balsamic, which was really bitter, or a odd version of a Ginger dressing. Neither were very appetizing. The sushi, which was my meal, was brought out 20 minutes before everyone elses meals. We ordered a ribeye for my son that was covered in some sort of sweet sauce that ruined the steak. There was also a HUGE chunk of fat in the meat. When I pay $22 for a steak I expect much better. Service was mediocre and the entire meal start to finish was over two hours due to the long wait for our food. Someone came to get our check at the end of this disaster and apologized about the long wait blaming it on a crazy Monday night. Crazy? There were 5 tables! Never again. Try Kikus instead...much better experience.

I do NOT understand the poor reviews. We have dined there and never had any problems with wait staff. Always friendly and knowledgeable. There is no hostess stand? Really? That is a problem for someone? The restaurant is decorated very nicely. With the family we've sat at the tables but when it is my husband and me we prefer the private booths. The food is wonderful here. A new favorite of ours is the Crispy Tuna Tartar. Excellent! We sampled several of the specialty rolls such as Angry Dragon and Black Pearl. We also enjoy the various sushi offerings. Please go and try it for yourself before you believe the negative ratings.

Never fully ended up dining here, never coming back. The idea my group had was that after seeing Tron, we'd go and get some food somewhere. It turned out that about 80% of the mall was completely closed, but be that what it may. We eventually settled on going to tokyo bay. When we came in, there was almost nobody there. My thoughts were hey, guess what, good service then right? Wrong. When we said we had six people they fumbled around as if they've never counted past four before - it took them almost 10 minutes just to set up the (already set up) table that could seat six in front of us. Next what do they do? Immediately ask us what we want to order. Notice something missing here? A menu. Yup, I had to remind them to bring us menus, and the prices were ridiculous. They were somewhere between double to 2.5x the price for rolls that I've ever seen anywhere I've eaten. So yeah, waitresses here are horrible to the point that it's not even worth considering. Having spent probably 25 minutes there just to get a menu, our group left, completely dissuaded from the location due to the experience.

Extremely long wait for takeout this evening. As I was checking out, I noticed a coupon for a free California roll with a takeout order over $20 on the front of the menu. I saw it immediately after I paid. My order included three rolls, one of which was the California roll and the bill would have been well over $20 without it. When I asked the cashier if I could have it applied, they were not only in accommodating, but rude about it and had a "too bad for you" attitude. I would have at least appreciated a polite response. Food was mediocre and pricey.

No complaints here! Excellent drinks, food is fresh and always on point! Staff is courteous, our bartender Kristen was awesome. We will make this a regular spot.

Been here a few times and I like it. The sushi is good, the Ramen soup is good, the Sea bass was very good. The spring rolls are very good. Being that I have been here a few times and live 2 minutes away I am surprised by the negative reviews. Everything I had here is good and will go back.

I came to my favorite sushi place while my daughter and her boyfriend ate next door. I decided to have a drink at the bar and order my food to go. It took 55 minutes for me to get my food.i asked about it 20 minutes in and bar tender said it is almost ready. I asked again 10 min later and was told part of it is bagged up and ready. Meanwhile the people eating at the bar all have order at least two rounds of sushi. I complained and bartender tells me since it was to go my order was behind all to go orders even though I was at bar taking up dinning space. So frustrating. I guess I will head a few blocks down and try Wild Tuna. I hate to do this after coming here for almost 2 1/2 yrs but this is ridiculous. If the manager reads this..I will be glad to let you know the bar tenders name.

Sushi is sushi these days, everyone's got it. Tokyo Bay's is good, has all the fixings required. Though, as others have said, $$$ expensive. The ambiance of this place is strange, horrible karaoke, weird decor.

Bento Box Teriyaki Chicken, 4pc cali roll, soup, salad = $16, it was good 3.5/5 (too expensive) Spicy Tuna Roll = $8 mediocre at best. 6 pieces, OK flavor, lots of tuna though 2.5/5 (not cheap) Tax and Tip = $6 It was odd that we were the only customers and it still took a long time for them to get our food to us. The box was tasty but they probably should add 1 more item to it for what they charge. I will admit that the spicy tuna roll was fatter than most I've had, but the flavor was just OK and not spicy enough. I give this place 2 stars because they are just too pricey and are not that good. I would rather have paid $30 at Wild Tuna or Raku. I eat sushi all over the US and this place ranks low for the cost. If my bill had been 10 dollars cheaper I would have given this place 3 stars.

Tried this place back in 2009 and thought it was very pricey for what it offered at the time. However, we were looking for dinner before a movie and, after trying all other options and not a seat to be had anywhere, we decided to give this another shot. We're glad we did! The menu seemed to have been expanded (ok, yes, they do have a stir fry part of the menu in addition to the other things, but our neighbor ordered a stir fry and enjoyed it a lot, so probably good to have options for non-sushi fans). Two of us ordered the bento box meals, and it was a really fun way to eat a small quantity of a variety of things. It included salad, rice, choice of protein, soup which came before the bento box, and California rolls. Since I'm not a big sushi fan, I had the teriyaki chicken bento box, and my neighbor had a shrimp one and enjoyed it. My husband, who is a seasoned traveler to Japan, enjoyed his sushi box with no complaints, so I have to believe it passed the test. The California rolls were not especially innovative or tasty, and my specialty drink was supposed to have fresh basil leaves which seemed to be missing, but overall I'd say I'd go back again because the variety of choice was nice for multiple people and it delivered well on a good number of points. You can't beat the proximity to the theater!

Great, went her twice in 2 days! Sushi was great and sake bombs!! Yes!!!! The price is a little steep, but I expect that from Naperville. The crab Rangoon is also very good!!! The ladies that work there also owner is very friendly! They served our sushi in a large boat on second day because we ordered so much! Such a cool thing!

First off, let me just say that sushi is my most favorite food on the planet. My husband and I both had a day off and decided it had been too long since we've had some, so we stopped into Tokyo Bay on the way to the movies. First impression, the place was clean and very modern. From the appearance of the bar in the open space in the room, we figured this was a sophisticated bar restaurant for a sophisticated crowd (though we do not drink, we were there to enjoy the restaurant- it was 1:00 in the afternoon). However, what disturbed the seemingly peaceful ambience was the tasteless r&b music, which clashes with the upscale casual look of the place. The privacy booths were great, relaxing if it had not been for the music. I ordered the 3-roll special (spicy tuna, spicy crab, and sweet potato, $16), and my husband ordered the Orange chicken (custom order to make it spicy) and a roll of tuna ($6). We both got a bowl miso soup and a side salad. The miso soup was as expected. The side salad was amazing (the ginger dressing and radish slices really made it). By the time our rolls had came, we were already slightly full (and as stated before in other reviews, my husband can EAT). The rolls were delish, especially the sweet potato which had some crunchy tempura in it. My husband somehow managed to stomach his orange chicken which he really enjoyed. I ordered a ginger peach tea which was $5: to me, it wasn't worth it, especially as it is unsweetened (all the specialty teas are). Overall, we spent about $42 which was a bit much. Though it was an enjoyable experience with good food!

Our service was horrible-when we complained to a manager, we were blamed for our server's incompetence. The food was good but we ended up being there for two hours on a slow night. I would give less stars if I could.

Despite having slow service and having an identity crisis, the sushi was pretty good. Prepare yourself to spend money because its pricey.

Just came back here after several years. Service has improved significantly and sushi rolls were very good. My only complaint was the price - a bit expensive for the location and atmosphere. May come back again soon.

I can sum up Tokyo Bay in three words: Not Worth It. First of all, tokyo bay has a serious identity crisis going on. The owners also own a Chinese take out place across the street so half the items on the menu are Chinese food, not Japanese. The location is an extremely family-friendly area (Houlihans, Red Robin, Johnny Rockets, Cantera movie theatre, etc.) but half the restaurant is taken up by the obnoxiously huge bar. (NOT sushi bar... just bar) Also, they have karaoke.... *insert huge eye roll here* When I'm paying $14-20 per sushi roll on a nice dinner, I do NOT want to hear a bunch of mildly (or extremely) drunk middle-aged adults singing their obnoxious renditions of "Teenage Dream" or "Blurred Lines". The sushi is decent. Not the best I've had by any means, but not the worst either. It's extremely over-priced though. You can get way better quality for half the price at any of the 15 nearby sushi restaurants. Did I mention that they smoke in the kitchen? As in, cigarettes? EW!!! How disgusting and unprofessional! Like I said, Not. Worth. It.

To sum up our experience at Tokyo Bay it was overpriced and the service was terrible. We ordered 2 glasses of their house wine, 2 specialty sushi rolls, 1 California, miso soup, calamari and a salad and our bill was $80! I was shocked at how much more expensive this place was compared to the other sushi restaurants in the area. The only reason that I give it 2 starts is because the food was decent but not good enough to ever make me come back. We ordered the calamri as an appetizer and waited approximately 30 minutes for it to come out. It took so long for it to come out that our sushi that we ordered as our main course came out 5 minutes before our appetizer. Our waitress came to apologize for the wait and said that it was taking so long because they only had 1 chef. What kind of restaurant this size only has 1 chef working on a Friday night? To add to that, the calamari came with a dipping sauce in a small bowl. The bowl (which maybe could hold a total of 2oz) was only about 1/3 filled so the sauce ran out about half way through the appetizer. We asked for more sauce which the waitress gladly agreed to get us. We waited an additional 5 minutes for her to come back and tell us that they were out of the sauce but gave us some sort of other sauce which my wife could not eat with our now cold calamari. Then the waitress knocked over my soy sauce tray which splattered on my nice shirt. She apologized but didnt even bring a rag to help clean my shirt or the table. I figured that the least they could do is comp our appetizer since they shorted us on the sauce and it took an eternity to come out, but to my surprise, the calamari was still on the bill. There are a ton of other great sushi restaurants in the area like Wild Tuna so we will not be going back here. Save your money and time and go someplace else.

Overpriced garbage-- all their peers outperform them. Goto these instead: Wild Tuna, Shinto, or Sakura. In short, avoid this place because their sushi is of unacceptable quality. If you have friends who you are introducing to sushi, I would be ashamed to bring them here.

I went to Tokyo Bay with three friends and our opinions were very split after eating dinner. Two friends ordered a few of the speciality sushi rolls, I ordered a ginger salad and spicy tuna roll, and my other friend order a chicken meal on the "From the Kitchen" menu. My two friends that ordered the speciality sushi rolls absolutely loved them, especially the Dragon on Fire, and I will say that although I didn't try any myself it looked very good. My other friend absolutely hated his meal and it looked like a mediocre home-cooked meal at best. The chicken barely had any type of spices on it and was very dry, accompanied with broccoli that looked like someone who had never cooked before just threw into a pot to steam them. My meal was mediocre at best. The ginger salad was the worst I have tasted at any Asian restaurant and the spicy tuna roll was fine, but nothing great. Service was fine, but nothing great. Our waiter seemed like he hated people, his job, and had no interest in being there but everyone else was pleasant, but seemed inexperienced. So what I have concluded from reading previous reviews and my own experience is that if you are going to eat at Tokyo Bay order a few of the speciality rolls, otherwise save your money and go elsewhere.

I don't know why we keep coming back here, the service is horrible and extremely slow. We had a discount for a four square check in and even told her advance, but she still forgot to take it off the check. I asked of a different kind of chopsticks and I had to remind our server to bring them as I already asked. We were short on time because we were seeing a movie and even telling her that, she still wasn't attentive. Every time we come, they are never crowded so I don't understand how they are still in business...the food is nothing special. The servers and hostess are all always huddled up at the bar together...I havenever seen a manager. I think last night was the last time I will eat there.

I don't know why people are giving this place less than 3 stars. I think the service is wonderful. Our server was very accommodating and the food was fast. Sushi was fresh too. I really liked their honey wasabi calamari. The only thing I didn't like was the Pad Thai, it was a bit too oily for my taste and I think I've had better. Price is a little steep for sushi but other than that, it's definitely a place to try :-)

I was a little nervous going to this place after reading so many of the awful reviews - but after eating here, I am wondering if one of the following apply: A) They have made significant changes to this place since most of these bad reviews were written B) People are weighting their number of stars too heavily on the service portion of their experience and not taking into account the food C) The owner has a bunch of enemies that are trying to sabotage Tokyo Bay I brought a group of friends here and we had a great time and really enjoyed our food. Our waitress wasn't the brightest star in the sky and yes we had to remind her a couple times for things - but it really didn't put a damper on my evening. I would definitely not go so far to say that she was "moronic" or call her a "drug addict" because she forgot my order. She was friendly and eager to answer any questions we had, get us anything we asked for and even went so far as to split our checks for us. I do agree that this place is a little pricey, but not crazy for sushi. For the person who argued that the price was too high to be next to a Johnny Rockets - of course sushi is going to be MORE expensive than burgers and fries; come on now! Although the food is a little expensive, they do offer several food and drink specials on various nights of the week if you are looking for a deal. I liked that they had a variety of different things to choose from, including food for the non-sushi lover. A couple of people at our table ordered the Pad Thai and they both loved it. I had the K-95 and the Godzilla Roll. Another reviewer described the K-95 as an "enormous" roll but I ordered the Godzilla because I was still hungry. If I had ordered the Godzilla roll first, I probably would not have ordered a second roll - so it really depends on which roll you order. I would say that a good balance would be one of the specialty rolls and 2 of the regular rolls. They all had good flavor and the fish was fresh and delicious. I think Yelp is a great service and I often take people's reviews into account before choosing where to go, but in this case I am glad that I gave this place a chance despite all the bad reviews. I would come back - probably on a night that offered a good special.

I'm incredibly surprised by the plethora of negative reviews about this place! We have dined in twice and get take-out at least once to twice a month. I have never been disappointed by any service issues. I think I once had to wait an extra 10 minutes for my take-out but was offered a seat at the bar and promptly given a glass of water and an apology while I waited. However, it was nothing that would have changed my opinion. If you can look past some unpleasant reviews, do try this restaurant! They have a wonderful array of creative rolls if you are looking to try something out of the ordinary. We love the Smokey Bear roll, White Knight, and spicy salmon!

The sushi here is actually pretty good and the Miso soup is outstanding but I can only fork out 2 stars for the atmosphere and professionalism. What I liked about the sushi is that the rolls were huge so there's plenty of food BUT it's so damn expensive. If this place were in a different location I might reconsider but personally, I think paying between $14-$19 for one single roll of sushi at a place that sits across from a Houlihan's and Red Robin is asking a bit much... like $10-$11 dollars too much per roll. Our server was nice and you could tell she really wanted us to enjoy ourselves but while we were eating she was also entertaining someone's (I want to say it had to be the owner) child. She was showing the maybe 6 year old girl, who was in pink Hannah Montana pajamas, at a Sushi bar, between 10 and 11 at night, how to set the tables. Something about seeing a kid in pajamas do table set ups late on a Friday night does not set the mood for the BF and I. At one point the server even let her bring (non food) stuff out to our table which I was not impressed with. Not to judge, but kids aren't always the best with having clean hands and we saw her scratching at her arm and back a couple times which doesn't mean anything, everyone has itches and scratches, BUT it was not appetizing to think of what kids or just people in general, have under their finger nails and then see them setting tables. Lastly, the music was HORRENDOUS. So loud and the worst white people music ever. I don't like eating sushi while "I don't wanna work, I just wanna bang on the drum all day" is blaring, and I mean blaring in the most obnoxious way. They might as well have been blasting Kidz Bop it was such a mood killer. The server did tell us that on either Tuesdays or Thursday they have a special where for $26.95 per person, you can get all you can eat sushi, even the $19 dollars rolls are included in there. I think the deal is pretty good but I don't think I could take that atmosphere again. Plus, it's still a better deal to go to Kona and get half price sushi.

I was hesitant to dine at Tokyo Bay due to the negative reviews. However, my boyfriend and I were going to the new Bond (James Bond) movie at Showplace 16 Saturday night and were in the mood for sushi. I made a reservation with Kathy, who was an absolute doll. I mentioned our movie plans and she told me to bring the ticket stubs to the restaurant to get 10% off our bill. Nice! We walked over to Tokyo Bay after the movie (around 9:30 pm) and the place was surprisingly dead. Needless to say, we were seated immediately. Our server was the same Kathy who I had made the reservation with over the phone. I am a stickler for good service and found her charming and delightful, even allowing me to sample a couple of martinis before making a decision (I got the Mai Tai which was delicious!). The owner came over to say hello as well. We got several rolls and they wonderful; however, taste notwithstanding, I don't think the size of the rolls justifies the price. Look, I am a sushi gal. Sushi House, Wild Tuna, Kiku, RA, Momoya, Japanais, I've done 'em all and these restaurants give you more bang for your buck. I believe there were only two rolls under $10 on the Tokyo Bay menu, which would be fine if the rolls were BIGGER. We had an excellent dining experience, but I do believe their menu is somewhat over-priced for what you actually get. Overall, I DO RECOMMEND Tokyo Bay. Take your movie stub; get 10% off , and enjoy some truly delicious, creative sushi!

The only reason I gave this place two stars is because the sushi was ok, just ok. Also because the waitress was very nice. Other than those two things, I will never go back here. I'm noticing more and more that I don't really enjoy the "americanized" style of a sushi restaurant. Even though the last time I went to Wild Tuna we had a crazy server who rushed my friend and I and kept rearranging the plates and our glasses, I still love, love, love Wild Tuna!!! I really enjoy the whole sushi experience: the warm towel before your meal, the orange slices afterwards, these things make the experience more enjoyable for me personally. Back to Tokoyo Bay/ Sushi Grill and Bar ( I should've known!!!), this place was nicely decorated and pretty contemporary. I can definitely appreciate the style of the restaurant, But if I have to pay sky high prices because the owners wanted to decorate the place with curtains in between the booths (nice though btw, pretty), I'll say no thanks to that! $17 for your "Storm" roll (tempura shrimp with avocado, cucumber, and tuna atop?!?!?!, r u friggin SERIOUS?!?!?!) this place is a total rip off!!! The ONLY reason I went to this joint is because it was open the latest of the sushi places in the area and I was having some MAJOR CRAVINGS for sushi!!! NEVER AGAIN thank you!

I go to Tokyo Bay about once a month. I'm a huge fan of their spicey salmon hand-rolls, which are better there than in almost any sushi place where I've tried them. I've also tried several other items on the menu and enjoyed everything I've had. I have to admit that the service is 'casual', but I've never had a bad experience. They are friendly, but not as attnetive as most up-scale sushi spots. If you don't need to be doted on, the food here is worth the trip. If you're looking for a more upscale dining experience, Kiku might be a better fit.

Truly a disappointing experience. Never before have I contemplated leaving before even ordering. We went here around 5pm, just before wanting to catch a 7pm show across the parking lot. It was dead. We were seated right away, but it was a good long while before we were served water or had our order taken. Mind you, it was *dead*. We thought about just walking out and trying our luck elsewhere (especially since the prices felt a bit high - you can find way cheaper in the city, and I feel it is hard to justify the prices they were asking, given the location in a suburban strip mall), but the menu really sounded promising. So we just ordered an appetizier, and ended up getting some soup and sandwiches from the Panera Bread next door. Avoid this one!!

Much delayed review, but my wife and I had an "ehh" experience back in December. We met up w/ my wife's friends here when we were in the Chicago area for a get together. Considering the price, sushi was just O-K...I shouldn't compare w/ my local west coast eats, but still, I've had better sushi at Kamehachi and Sushi House (also in Naperville). What really disappoints is the lack of service :( It took us 30 min just to get our orders placed, another 45 min to get our food, and another 30 min for follow up service. It wasn't like the place was busy either; it was basically our group and 3 other couples dining. Given a choice, I would have preferred to not leave any gratuity, but they automatically tacked it on to our bill. I suppose it's a hit or miss experience.

THIS PLACE IS HORRIBLE AVOID AT ALL COSTS If I had a choice I wouldn't give it a star at all. Here's the deal: I've never gotten so mad at a restaurant before in my life. We went there for sushi, which is basically raw fish and rice. Right? We did order two cooked rolls, but from my experience at other Japanese restaurants, never has it taken over an hour for the food to come out. We got small and a poor excuse of "shrimp tempura" that I think wasn't even fully cooked, as an appetizer. The waitress offered to give us salad or miso soup while we waited, my aunt and cousin agreed to getting salad and I got the miso. What came back in return was miso broth and instead of salad, oil drenched egg rolls with ground beef in it. When the food FINALLY came out,I had a huge WTF moment, the spider rolls we ordered were smaller in size than the spicy tuna rolls. And, we ordered "dragon on fire" which came to our table when we reminded the waitress, it was falling apart on arrival. The place wasn't horribly packed it had the normal amount of people on a Friday night. After eating, my cousin and I were cheering my aunt on to explode at management. She didn't explode, but when he started offering to make us another roll, I got mad because if you couldn't get it right the first time, then what's the point of trying more of your sub par food. I told him he should be embarassed for the way he was running his restaurant. He took $13 off our check. I left with a greasy taste in my mouth like I just ate a burger.

I'll be the first to admit that I am often skeptical on sushi restaurants located in the heart of a suburb strip-mall surrounded by every chain restaurant you can imagine. I just haven't had that great of luck - but I continue to keep my eye open for the exception to the rule. The service was great. Our waitress was attentive without being a constant fixture at our table. Our food came out relatively quickly and she was quick to anticipate our need for more water before we had to even look around to find her. The venue is nice. In the back, there are tables nestled between curtains. And while you can still see the entire restaurant, you also feel like you are having a very private dining experience. The lighting that corresponds with the dark curtains that surround you give you a certain ambiance that you don't always find at suburban sushi joints. The sushi was just plain awesome. We ordered a total of five rolls between the two of us. It was a perfect amount since two of the rolls were of significant portion. My favorite was the spider roll. There was just something really fresh and flavorful about it that put it above the other spider rolls I've had before. I will definitely make a return visit. It's close proximity to the movie theater means that I can fill up on yummy sushi rather than load my gut with horrible-for-you theater snacks.

My husband and I went to Tokyo Bay for our 10 years anniversary. The food was ok.Overly priced. Hate the service. I was waiting for over 20 mins to get my check. The receptionist looks at me like I couldn't afford to pay for the dinner or something. They need to take their customer service seriously .

wow i'm really surprised by all the bad ratings, i've never had the issues the other reviewers have had. We go to this place at least twice a month. The servers are friendly and the owners really make sure you are happy. We've gotten complimentary desserts before that were wonderful . I used to order a steak from here and since it's not a steak place they could never cook it right. But they were sure to give us a discount off the bill for the trouble. I don't order the steak anymore because i've gotten used to eating sushi too. I really enjoy their pan-asian menu, not being a very adventurous eater i'm happy to have another alternative to sushi. I can get my sweet and sour chicken fix here. We tend to get sashimi regularly and it's always been great as well as the rolls being gigantic. yes it is expensive, but all sushi places are expensive. you won't be paying burger and fries prices here. I was happy to see that they were offering a discount on local ginger and have bought the max certs i can get. a note on the music. it has gotten a bit better. it used to be a mix on someone's ipod and now they have turned to volume down and are playing better music. They also have a live dj on the weekends, but we don't stay for the dancing. this is our go-to place. the staff is friendly and the service is good.

For $26.95 I got the all-you-can-eat sushi special on Tuesdays. I was very happy with the experience. I loved the fact some appetizers and the soup and salad were also included, although I never got to the soup or salad. It's a shame because I'm a freak for miso soup. Getting all the shrimp tempura I wanted was a HUGE plus. They also had smoked salmon sushi which I had never experienced, it was fantastic, as was the godzilla roll. The rest of the pieces were standard sushi fare. Very tasty and fresh. The waitress was very attentive without being overbearing. My iced tea never went dry, and my belly was never wanting. She didn't try to slow me down like some places may with similar offerings. Next time I'm going without the gf and really going for the full monty, I had to play it cool and not make a complete 4,000 calorie ass of myself. Ok, 5,000 calories.

ok... i thought i'd give this place a shot and now i'm heating up leftover pizza from last night because i am not full AT ALL! my husband and i always order an appetizer and three rolls when we go out for sushi and we are overly stuffed and wondering if we can fit that last piece of sushi into our mouths by the time we are finished. i'm pretty sure what we ordered here was a kid's meal since the "larger"pieces of sushi were about the same size as a regular spicy tuna roll or california roll... did not feel like i was putting a "specialty roll" into my mouth... don't get me wrong, the flavor was good, especially the Hangover Roll, but we definitely did not feel like we just stuffed our faces. Also, this place had only three tables seated (including us) and a few people sitting at the bar. There was only one waitress on staff (which was fitting for how slow this place was) but she was not the most attentative since she was also the bartender and was having a very in-depth conversation with her bar customers about what kind of new shots she should serve (which wound up with one of the customers getting behind the bar and mixing drinks for her to try. NOT something that I find professional to do while on the clock... maybe do this at home with some friends...) we did get our menu and a glass of water by the time we were settled into our table and she did ask how everything was soon after she gave us the platter of sushi but it felt like we waited a lifetime for the appetizer and then the rolls; by the time we were finished eating, i had made up my mind that i would walk up to the bar to pay our bill since she was so involved with those customers and not really noticing that we were finished at our table across the room. the place is decorated nicely and maybe that is what we paid for when we ordered our sushi since our $56 bill did not seem to fit our appetizer, 3 rolls and pop that we consumed. Thanks Tokyo Bay for the experience.

I have eaten here several times before and always sat at Sushi Bar. The all you can eat sushi M-Th is a good deal. Special rolls like Catapiller, Monster, K-95 are excellent! Service has deteriorated dramatically. Was with a group of 8 and waitress was rude and unresponsive. With so many excellent sushi restaurants in the area, it will be a very long time before I go back.

This is my opinion on this restaurant, and I've been there for lunch twice. The first time was okay the service was slow and the food was okay the rolls were nothing to talk about. My girlfriend had heard of the place and she wanted to try it out. Once again I was disappointed the service and the food were aw full. I realize we all have different expectations but we could hear the ONLY other table in the resturant occupied complaining about there meal. The excuse the waitress had was "OH i'm sorry we have a new chef" I also heard Tokyo bay owner is opening a new place in Yorkville I hope he isn't taking his Naperville chef to the new location. Honestly I don't think I will try this place again.

There were too many misses for me to give a good rating. Sushi was ok, service was ok, atmosphere was weird (seemed like an Italian restaurant to me), prices were high...There are much better choices in this area.

Despite the great advice by my fellow Yelpers, being the kiddeos ride home from the movie Mr. Man and I settled for conveniece over everything else. Instead of a nice relaxing dinner out I was smacked in the face by rude, ingnorant staff. Advice to the owner - train your staff about what customer service is!! As soon as you walk in you face a mess. The hostess stand is essentially shelves against the wall. So your first impression of the restaurant is the mess of pens, menus, etc that are sitting at the hostess stand. Lovely. Everytime we have driven by(on our way to a movie) this place has looked empty. Friday night at 8pm(primetime dinner time where you are either waiting for a table or have to make reservations weeks ago at other places) the restaurant had 5 tables besides ourselves full. A few patrons at the bar but other than that for a Friday night this is what a restaurant owner would consider a disaster. I asked for a drink menu and was rewarded with a drink list that though extensive, there was no listing of where the wines were from. Of the 4 riesling wines I was considering I asked the waitress if she could find out if any of the rieslings were German. Now I am no sommelier but if I am going to pay $9 for a glass of wine I want to enjoy it. Moments later another waitress came up and finger waving and all said "There are lots of bottles of wine back there and we are not just sitting around reading wine bottles." Wow. I was so SHOCKED and taken aback by her rudeness that I had nothing to say. I asked for the origin of 4 wines. Hello? Genius? It is written on the front of the bottle?! This just screams "I don't care about making your meal a great experience. I don't have time to check, nor do I want your waitress to check as I am busy trying to mack on the guys sitting two tables down." We will NEVER go to this restaurant ever again and I will make sure to tell everyone how HORRIBLE the service here was. The drive across town to eat sushi at Yamado is so worth it, just for the amazing owner who is the sweetest lady! And BTW, $13 for a roll that consist of 5 small pieces that is mediocre is not cool. I've eaten at the best sushi places like Nobu, Yamado and some cart in Hawaii but the sushi here is a RIP-OFF. Nothing original, nothing stand-out and all for prices that are way too high. Skip this place. Learn from me who should of listened to all the other Yelpers saying no to this place. With bad service like this I am surprised they are still open.

I'll make this short and sweet. The sushi was overpriced and did not taste good. I got one basic spicy tuna roll - I get better ones in the plastic at Dominik's. I also got something that was supposed to be fried and spicy. It was lukewarm and not spicy. My wife ordered a tuna and it was charred on the outside and raw in middle - not in a good way. It was not supposed to be. It was sent back and cooked for another 10 minutes. We got a "sorry" on the tuna, but that's about it. They were nice enough to only take the tuna off the plate so my wife could attempt to eat the rice that was now swimming in the raw juices that came out. Yay. I have a living social coupon for this place worth $15, I will throw that away before I even think about going here again. For sushi mixed with good Asian dishes, go to Kona Grill near Oakbrook. Way better prices and way better food.

Worth. It.

Been here a few times and I like it. The sushi is good, the Ramen soup is good, the Sea bass was very good. The spring rolls are very good. Being that I have been here a few times and live 2 minutes away I am surprised by the negative reviews. Everything I had here is good and will go back.

This is my first time eating sushi other than trying a piece from Jewel once or twice. I was kind of skeptical but my mom convinced me to try something different. I liked most of what we tried but oh my god it just did not sit right with me. I was so gassy after dinner and that night I had just a lot of stomach pains. I don't know if it was the sushi or just the place. I'm kind of scared to try sushi again now.

Contrary to my better judgement and at the request of my wife, we ate dinner at Tokyo Bay last night. This was our second time eating there; first time when they first opened. I assumed that all of the problems we encountered during our first visit was a result of the place being new - I was wrong. The food is average at best, way over priced for what you get and the service was terrible. At the time of order, I kindly asked to bring everything out together. Our server (name is Riana per receipt) said sure and walked away. Ten minutes later, our sushi rolls came out. Nice. We assumed a flow of food was coming since we were one of four tables in the place. 10 minutes after that, our order of veggie tempura along with my 12 yo daughter's calamari found our table. 10 minutes after that, I got my udon noodle soup. At that time, I asked about our son's chicken nugget kid meal (chicken strips and fries from the deep fryer). The server said it was nearly done and would be out in a minute. 15 minutes later, our 7 yo finally had his dinner - at 6:45 which was 45 minutes from the time we ordered. The easiest and cheapest meal was the last to be served. All of what I noted, no alcohol, for $90. Two of the three rolls we got were $15 each and equal to that found at your local grocery store. I feel violated. In closing, this place sucks. I wouldn't eat there again if my meal was free. I hope they close so a better place can open. Save your money and enjoy sushi at other Naperville sushi joints.

This place is horrible! The service was atrocious and the food was terrible. I had heard about several incident of food poisoning from a friend of mine after the fact. Fortunately I did not get it when I went, but I am telling you the sushi tasted like it had been laying around all day, it was almost HOT!! And since it was supposed to be raw, that is not good. Stay away! Unless you like bad service and food that is. Take my advice, go about 1 mile south on Rt 59 and go to Wild Tuna instead. You will NOT be disappointed.

I wish I would have read the reviews before eating here. I went there today with my two kids. We were greeted at the door and seated promptly. The inside of the restaurant was nice, not up to a Kiku, but it was fine. My sushi experience tells me that the decor is usually no measure of the quality of the food. The service was attentive and friendly, the waitress came by the table regularly to check up on things and refill the drinks. We had three avocado rolls, a california roll, an order of chicken fried rice for the kids, and 3 diet cokes. The bill was $41. The rolls were well below average, What killed it was the brown avocado and the mushy rice. My two girls, who don't complain about food usually, wouldn't eat the chicken in the fried rice (dry and tastes funny was the verdict), although the rice itself was pretty good. I don't think I would give this place another try. There are too many really good sushi restaurants within 10 minutes of this place. Kiku is pretty great, along with Wild Tuna and my personal fave, Momoya, is not too far either. All of these places have far better Sushi (and atmosphere if that's what your after). I know the location should have given it away, surrounded by Johnny Rockets and a Houlihans, but look at the bright side, I ate here so you don't have to.

I have to agree with all the negative reviews regarding this sushi establishment. First off the service is absolutely atrocious. It takes about anywhere between five to fifteen minutes to even get a menu! Also the servers have a bad attitude and seem more interested in texting and talking on their phone than coming to check on the tables. I do believe this stems from a problem with management rather than the wait staff themselves. Second, the food quality is not matched with the prices. The bottom line is that your paying a premium price for average sushi. Its not worth the price nor the time waiting for the food to finally arrive. With bad food, service and ownership this restaurant is a sinking ship without a captain. I would steer clear of this restaurant at all costs.

Pretty darn good! :) I went here with 5 of my friends for a dinner-and-a-movie evening. The sushi was AWESOME! A little pricey, but that's to be expected. It's sushi afterall. But their selection was fantastic! The ambiance was nice. Word to the wise: If you intend on seeing a movie after dinner, give yourself a LOT of time. Their sushi menu is more expansive than most and it'll take a while to review everything to see what you want. Also they have to make it, and if you're still hungry, you'll have to review the menu again. My only complaint was when we were attempting to leave for the movie. The waitress dropped off ONE check for the entire table. When we requested it be split up it literally took her 10 minutes to return, which made us late for the movie. I paid for one of our friends so that he could run to the theatre and get us seats. THAT part was annoying. Besides that though, the sushi was FABULOUS, fairly priced and I'll definitely be back! :)

As others have said, I'm surprised by the negative reviews of this place! We had a wonderful dining experience. I stopped in here with a friend at 11:30 on a Sunday morning. Our server, Hector, was friendly, helpful, and prompt. Miso soup was delicious. We tried two specialty maki's that were both wonderful! Salmon sushi was fresh and good. We also ordered "from the wok" and tried the Spicy Garlic Beef... DELICIOUS!!!! We didn't have anything from the bar, but there appeared to be some good beers on tap and a fully stocked bar. Overall, we loved the place and will definitely return. The only thing keeping me from giving 5 stars is that we were the ONLY people in the place the entire time we were there, so I have to wonder how they keep things fresh. With the shortage of good sushi places in the area, it would be sad if Tokyo Bay didn't survive.

I've been to tokyo bay once before and did the all-you-can eat. And from what I remember it was good. Well today we went back and it was terrible. The rolls were good but the service was terrible. We were the only ones there. Our waitress sees us doesn't even say hello and sits us. After waiting about 5 minutes she comes and asks us if we wanted something to drink...mind you she didn't even give us water before hand. And she was on the phone half the time. Then we had to ask for water several times after that. HIDDEN FEES!!! THE SIGN OUTSIDE SAID HALF PRICE SUSHI..BUT WHEN U GET YOUR BILL THEY CHARGE YOU A SEVICE FEE!!! AN 18% FEE OFF THE ORIGINAL NON DISCOUNTED SUSHI PRICE. AND THEY MAKE U PAY FOR IT EVEN IF YOU GET TERRIBLE SERVICE!!! The waitress explained that since its half price sushi...people have been tipping less to the waitresses and he thought that wasn't fair. Well do a better job then maybe u could get a better tip! Overall, the food was good and the service was bad. I wouldn't go here again!!! You're better off going to Shinto or Kiko...better sevice and food!

Being back home in Naperville for the weekend, I was psyched to find a sushi place near me mum's house. A cousin of mine said that the sushi was awesome. I should've known better than to listen, because my cousin also thinks the food at Applebee's is awesome...my experience there was NOT up to par. We definitely got treated. And not in a good way. The food wasn't THAT horrible, but it caters more to the mainstream sushi goer. And I kind of expected that from a suburban sushi joint. Also, most of the sushi rolls we got were microscopic. I don't enjoy paying for pygmy sushi. The worst part was the vile service. They were uncivil and not helpful at all. After we were seated, it took literally about 20 minutes for someone to even take our drink order, and the freakin place wasn't even crowded. I also ordered a pork chop (okay I'll admit it was pretty good), but no one ever gave me the fork I asked for so I can eat it. Sorry I'm not Asian enough to use chopsticks with every meal. I had to get up and ask someone for a fork. Pretty absurd, yeah? My friend's meal was brought 15 minutes after mine. Making him wait, how classy. Poor kid. Dearest Tokyo Bay, thank you sooooo much for treating us like 2nd class citizens...actually you treated us like we were untouchables. Lovely! YOU SUCK! YOU SUCK! YOU SUCK! PS: Kiku, which is a few miles up the road, is 573094857 times better in every way possible.

This place is awesome! Im usually a Shinto follower, but this place has better pricing thanany place around and the taste is wonderful. My favorites are the Lobster Roll, has a hint of cilantro, the Kobe Beef roll, King Crab Roll and the Godzilla. The sashimi is in its own league, liked the Super White Tuna per the owners reccommendation, but still prefer the yellowtail the best, its like butter. The owner, and the waitstaff, Nikki, did a wonderful job on keeping us wowed throughout the entire meal and it was half off the entire lunch from 11-4, you must try this place, you will be a regular.

So, the "owner" contacted me after reading my earlier review, offering me to go back and try this place out again. Guess who it was sent by: a user named "BRENDA B." who you might recognize as the only person who reviewed this place with 5 stars. They even wrote it as if they were a customer of the joint, when in fact they were the owner. Even if we hadn't moved, we wouldn't be back anymore. -1 for terrible and dishonest business practices (reviewing your own joint). This is "BRENDA B's" original review, in case they go and delete it: "As an Asian family that recently attended Tokyo Bay in Naperville, I am very suprised at the previous review that claimed that Tokyo Bay was discriminatory towards Asians. We receieved excellent service; we were greeted and seated right away and our waitress came within seconds to take our drink order. There were several other customers seated around the restaurant, and the waitress seemed busy but still had enough time to adequately take care of us and even chatted about superheroes with our children. Life is just way too short for anybody to complain about not recieving any service, specically based off discrimination when the restaurant owner is Asian. It seems like the family that complained doesnt just have problems with Tokyo Bay, but also with Sushi House and the other Naperville sushi restaurants, maybe they just need to find an alternative type cuisine to enjoy. The food was delicious and I recommend anything off the "Specials" board, specifically the Godzilla roll. It was a very large roll and definitely worth the price. The atmosphere at Tokyo Bay is unlike any other sushi restaurant in Naperville, it is relaxing and very elegant, but also appropriate for families and children. I've been to Wild Tuna, Sushi House, Kiku, and plenty of other sushi restaurants in Chicago and around the country, and I must say Tokyo Bay is by far one of my favorite places to enjoy the best sushi in the best atmosphere in the Chicago land area. It is great for families, and I definitely plan on celebrating many (hopefully) anniversaries and birthdays to come at this amazing restaurant."

Ordered the shu mai (shrimp dumplings) and they were AMAZING! Also, the spicy california roll was good (but small in size) and, I ordered the seafood udon and it was DELICIOUS! Met and talked to Ken (the manager) at length and he was very accommodating, professional and friendly! I really liked the food. I will be back again! Great place to go before catching a movie across the parking lot! :o)

not sure what happened to my earlier review - reposting- Service was horrible and only 2 other people were in the restaurant. I asked for tea and it took 20 minutes, then our order came out wrong, the waitress added sushi we didn't order and then forgot other things we did order. It was horrible. We wanted a quick lunch but ended up being there for 2 hours!

Why is it that whenever we eat sushi in the suburbs we practically have to carry our own wasabi with us? The wasabi wasn't even spicy. The spicy tuna wasn't spicy either and was ground so fine that the "tuna" was unrecognizable. The prices are also ridiculous for a suburban strip mall sushi establishment.

My date's glass of water came with someone else's lipstick remnants on the rim, but we decided to overlook it in hopes of some delicious sushi. To Toyoko Bay's credit, the miso soup was delightful. However, we became truly discouraged when we tasted the worst spicy tuna rolls we had ever eaten (super mushy, warm tuna) and had to endure blaring 90s rock that destroyed any semblance of atmosphere. I would not eat here again, which is a shame because I love sushi and the movie theater nearby.

Great variety of Japanese food reasonably priced. Came to eat lunch here this week and was pleasantly surprised at the options for sushi and sashimi. The food was pretty decent, but I have to agree with others who have reviewed this place on the service. The service is slow, but it seems to be because they're short staffed rather than rude as others have suggested. If you're trying to get a quick bite before a movie, avoid this place like the plague cause you'll be there for a bit. If you're not in any hurry, sit back and relax and eventually you'll get your food which as I said, is pretty decent.

If there was a negative star, that's the rating I would give. Let's start with the good points; it's in a great location. They probably won't even care about this review since they will get heavy traffic from movie goers. The restaurant is clean, as it should since it's NEW. And the owner was nice... at least I think he was the owner. Down to the nasty. First of all, I really don't know what it is with Naperville Sushi places. I've never received so much discrimination in my life.... AND I AM ASIAN! We arrived and were greeted by the owner who was very polite. Sat us down and gave us menus. I'm sad to say that is as far as we got. We sat for about ten minutes staring at every server trying to at least get glasses of water! It wasn't until a WHITE couple came in and was immediately served, that we decided to leave. Now before you say it was busy or they weren't staffed enough, there was only 4 customers' (2 tables) throughout the whole restaurant! I probably wasn't dressed the best that night, but why should that matter? My fianc and I experienced the same service when we went to Sushi House. It seems like these places are more willing to go out of there way for white people then say an Asian person that already knows what they want. Please don't make me out to be a picky restaurant goer because that is far from what I am. I am 30 years old go out to eat maybe 3 times out of the week, I'm willing to drive 45 min's away for a good place (which is what we did, Sushi Train in Bolingbrook great place and food). Overall, I was very dissatisfied, I will never go there again and I will tell everyone that asks about that place to never go there. However, if they are white I'm pretty sure there service will be better than ours.

Really nice location. Great place to go before and after a movie. Service was good and the specialty rolls were amazing. The Godzilla roll and Firecracker Roll aren't listed on the menu yet, but ask for it. It is especially nice for those who aren't particularly fond of the raw sushi in your party. nice layout and not claustraphobic or dark. Make reservations for the weekend for a party as small as two(2) to assure seating.

We wanted a quick lunch but ended up being there for 2 hours!

ok... i thought i'd give this place a shot and now i'm heating up leftover pizza from last night because i am not full AT ALL! my husband and i always order an appetizer and three rolls when we go out for sushi and we are overly stuffed and wondering if we can fit that last piece of sushi into our mouths by the time we are finished. i'm pretty sure what we ordered here was a kid's meal since the "larger"pieces of sushi were about the same size as a regular spicy tuna roll or california roll... did not feel like i was putting a "specialty roll" into my mouth... don't get me wrong, the flavor was good, especially the Hangover Roll, but we definitely did not feel like we just stuffed our faces.

Even a couple of folks that weren't "sushi savvy" found something to like. Friendly service, and certainly a well-appointed dining area. Certainly worth a return trip soon.

Great variety of Japanese food reasonably priced. Came to eat lunch here this week and was pleasantly surprised at the options for sushi and sashimi. Even a couple of folks that weren't "sushi savvy" found something to like. Friendly service, and certainly a well-appointed dining area. Certainly worth a return trip soon.

if you are a sushi connoisseur, skip this jokester joint. no wasabi or ginger? it's like getting a burger and the chef forgets the buns.

Worth. It.

Been here a few times and I like it. The sushi is good, the Ramen soup is good, the Sea bass was very good. The spring rolls are very good. Being that I have been here a few times and live 2 minutes away I am surprised by the negative reviews. Everything I had here is good and will go back.

Why is it that whenever we eat sushi in the suburbs we practically have to carry our own wasabi with us? The wasabi wasn't even spicy. The spicy tuna wasn't spicy either and was ground so fine that the "tuna" was unrecognizable. The prices are also ridiculous for a suburban strip mall sushi establishment.

ok... i thought i'd give this place a shot and now i'm heating up leftover pizza from last night because i am not full AT ALL! my husband and i always order an appetizer and three rolls when we go out for sushi and we are overly stuffed and wondering if we can fit that last piece of sushi into our mouths by the time we are finished. i'm pretty sure what we ordered here was a kid's meal since the "larger"pieces of sushi were about the same size as a regular spicy tuna roll or california roll... did not feel like i was putting a "specialty roll" into my mouth... don't get me wrong, the flavor was good, especially the Hangover Roll, but we definitely did not feel like we just stuffed our faces.

This place is just plain bad. Food, service, decor. Avoid paying city prices for nothing.

I love the staff. The first time here and they made me feel like a regular. I went there for a Birthday party that they went the extra mile. Great job.
