I just got back from Jackson Ave Pub in downtown Naperville about an hour ago, I thought I'd write my review while it was still fresh in my head. This is a pretty small bar, but it's nice and clean and the decor cool, with old brick walls. I went for lunch on a Sunday, so I can't speak to the nightlife here, but it was pretty busy while the Bears were playing. The menu consists mainly of burgers, but they have a pretty big variety of them with some unique topping options. You have a choice of buns (pretzel or standard) and a choice of Angus beef or grass fed beef. I opted for a standard bacon cheeseburger with a pretzel bun and it was a very good burger. The beef was definitely fresh, as were all of the toppings. The fries are skin on and had a great crunchy exterior and a nice pillowy interior and just the right amount of salt. We also ordered the chicken strips as an appetizer and the chicken was good, but the hot sauce was odd and not in a good way. They have a great beer selection, consisting of a lot of a local and micro brews on tap, which I always prefer. If you're into IPA's, they have quite a few on tap to choose from. Our server Sara was great, our beers were never empty and all in all this is a cool little bar. It is definitely worth checking out if you are downtown Naperville and want a good burger and a micro brew to wash it down.

Beer selection leaves a good amount to be desired, but no harm, no foul.

I used to be a fan of the Grumpy Bulldog that used to inhabit this space and I am glad to see another place fill the void that was left. Went in a Saturday night and the special was $2.50 Miller Lite Drafts (considering it was Saturday night, not a bad special, if you are looking for a macro brew). The draft selection was pretty good and the menu consists of a page of appetizers and a page of burgers. We were looking for a snack, so we ordered the stuffed jalapenos which were excellent. Four big unbreaded jalapenos stuffed with cream cheese and wrapped in bacon and then deep fried. A nice change from the usual breaded poppers. We then got an order of the parmesan truffle fries. House cut fries were good and crisp and I could do with the truffle oil myself, but my wife loved them. Next time I'll try a burger which looked pretty good as they passed by.

Great local spot with an impressive beer selection. Best burger in downtown Naperville.

Hooray for the independents in Naperville. They do an above average job with both the food and beer menu. Not as "cheers-like" compared to grumpy but certainly a better clientele. Must stop if you are in downtown Naperville.

One of the best burgers (grass fed) around. Always have a couple unique craft beers on tap. A bit small but lends to the cozy atmosphere. A good place to grab a quick bite and throw back a couple brews but not a place to hangout for a long period of time due to size. Wait staff was quick and friendly.

I brought some business associates here today for lunch, and this was my 4th visit to Jackson Avenue Pub. We arrived at 12:15 and the place was empty, which was basically the case on my previous three visits!! I can't figure it out. The service was OK, nothing to write home about and anything but warm and inviting, but they have a nice beer selection and have some outstanding burgers and chicken sandwiches. My favorite so far is the greek chicken sandwich on pretzel roll with sweet potato fries. My meal today was nothing short of fantastic. Sandwich was delish and the fries crisp on the outside and soft on the inside, perfect. The waitress was very attentive, just not "friendly", didn't really smile or say hello. Food was delivered fresh and hot and we got endless refills of soft drinks (it was a business lunch today). The place could certainly be more inviting as as far as the staff is concerned, but with such great food and drinks I don't know why it seems literally no one comes here. I'll be back for sure!

Really great burgers. I would suggest the Jalapeno poppers (they're wrapped in bacon) and sweet potato fries. They have live music on Wednesday nights. It is a great place to sit and have a good beer.

As the other Yelpers mentioned its nice to see something in the vacant spot that was the Grumpy Bulldog.....that being said..... Im a bit of a beer enthusiast and sad to say their beer selection is mediocre at best. Nice to see Solemn Oath, but other than that there was nothing that stood out. Heaven on Seven beer selection blows this place out of the water. There's always room to grow and the place is fairly new so hopefully they can expand on that. As for the food.....Hmmm, it seems to be trying to replicate Kumas Korner in Chicago, although imitation is the best form of flattery, this place fails to pull it off. The burgers are creative, but that's where it stalls, small in size and very skimpy on the toppings. When your entire back of the menu is just burgers you better bring something special to the table, especially for the price they charge. Pretzel buns are a nice touch, but there the same brand Whole Foods carries. On a side note I did order some appts and a wedge salad. Appts were decent, jalapeño poppers wrapped in bacon, and chicken skewers. The wedge was horrid, bottom of the lettuce core was on the plate which is uneatable and barely any dressing, and a small portion for $6 if I recall correctly..... I'm not sure why they charge the prices they do for the portions they serve.

We went here looking for a good burger and a nice environment to catch up with a friend from out of town, and we were pleasantly surprised to have an exceptionally good dining experience. Our waitress was amazing, really going the extra mile to explain all of the options and make sure we had a delicious meal, with plenty of great drinks to go with it. The menu is focused on burgers, and the focus pays off because the burgers are delicious and there are unlimited and unique topping options. I had the nightly special, the Elvis burger with peanut butter sauce and banana remoulade - it was amazing and definitely not something I'd had before. Well done Jackson Ave Pub, we will definitely be back!

Ok, this is pretty simple. Best burger in town, hands down. I could just stop there, but... I had the"Smokey" burger, medium rare on a pretzel bun with sweet potato fries. The burger was not huge, but perfect. The medium rare was really medium rare. And the toppings made it delicious. The three other burgers at the table (medium-well to well) were all hits too. And the servers were all great. Everybody was helpful and friendly. Food came out quickly. And the guy bringing the food had mad skills juggling four plates. And I was pleased that they had a great variety of beers on tap. I am so tired of bars that serve 18 IPAs + Alagash wheat and Millet lite. IPAs are crappy and pretentious. They have plenty of them here if you like that, but they had a great variety for the rest of us, who don't need our beer to cross the ocean on a slow ship to India. The place was a little loud at Friday happy hour for my taste, but I would still hang here in a heartbeat. The only complaint I could muster is that the sweet potato fries are too salty. (I know you are selling beer.) I hope this venue stays under this management for a long time.

Great place if you're driving through town and need a bite to eat! Two reasons for 4/5 1. They serve grass-fed beef burgers (and have a million topping choices) 2. Bacon-wrapped dates. They also have sweet potato fries, which is a major win! I have to say that the burger and the fries were definitely under seasoned, but I was alright with adding my own salt and pepper. It was nice to be in a place with a cool vibe, laid back atmosphere and decent service.

Today we visited this pub for the first time. It's a small bar, dimly lit, with 10-15 tables and is located in downtown Naperville. It's a little local bar that serves food. Good food. We came in to grab a snack and a drink. My husband had a beer and me, a Moscow Mule. We ordered dates wrapped in bacon and a buffalo chicken flatbread to share. The dates were outstanding. Loved them. The buffalo chicken flatbread was good. It could have used more blue cheese as that flavor got lost. I did like the crunchy raw carrots and celery on top. The burgers looked fantastic and I'll probably be back to try those. There were many to choose from on the menu. The waitstaff was friendly and the place clean. The woman's bathroom (just a onesie) was very clean which is rare in a bar. Prices weren't too bad either. I would come back here again.

I think we hit this place on an off night. The food service was really slow and when the burgers came out they were cold. I asked for med rare and got medium. The couple next to us had their order all screwed up, although the server made it up to them. Great décor, great choice of any kind of burger you can imagine. Decent craft beer list. Friendly servers as well. I'll probably give them another try based on all the other reviews here as anyone can have a bad day. But its 3 stars for last nights meal.

My husband and I came to Jackson Ave Pub specifically to try their burgers we've been hearing everyone rave about. But before we even had a chance to browse their food menu, we were taken back by their beers on draft...loved seeing crafts like Dogfish Head, Bells Oberon, Allagash White and Solemn Oath! All of our closest friends. Fantastic. Brew in hand, we browsed the menu. Tons of burger options! I went with the Santa Fe Burger - grass fed beef with cheddar, pepper jack, pico de gallo and avocado on a pretzel bun with a side of house fries. It was everything I imagined and more. This burger was big, juicy and served at the perfect temp. The combo of cheese and pico de gallo was pretty bomb dot com. I highly recommend the Santa Fe. My husband got the hangover burger (bacon, fried egg, cheddar and swiss) which looked amazing as well. I totally dig the vibe in the bar. Super chill with cool artwork, but still has a handful of TVs for catching the game. The only reason I couldn't give a fifth star was because of the service. Although the couple people behind the bar seemed nice, they just weren't very attentive. We weren't greeted right away when we got there and we sat finished with our meal for quite some time before anyone offered the check. It could have been an off day for them, who knows. I'll be back regardless. Great food, great beers. See ya there!

Great food, great service, but I was cold the entire meal. As other yelpers have pointed out, the food here is good. I got a veggie burger in lettuce instead of a bun and it was yummy! The bartender took our order and brought our food and he had several suggestions on things to try. Even though he was bartending, he still had an eye out for us. There are lots of beers to choose from here, so there's no chance of you going thirsty! I don't like eating with my coat on, but I had to do that which just damaged my dining experience. We specifically chose a place to sit that was far from the door in the back and I was still cold. The restroom had no heat at all, but at least I could use the hot water to warm up my hands. So I would have given it 5 stars, but the review is for the WHOLE experience and I needed some heat!

If you're looking for a great burger and a beer in downtown Naperville this is the place to go friendly service, you get your food very quick and good specials. Only complaint is it's a small place so it can feel pretty cramped.

Great little bar in the downtown area of Naperville. Burgers are amazing and the truffle fries are a must. Will go back next time that I am in the area. Service was great they are very friendly and your drink is never empty.

Ok, my second visit was much better than the first. My husband and I dropped in for lunch and the crowd was light. The food was wonderful and the service was great. We had grass fed burgers, which were cooked perfectly and the fries were really good. We had a different bartender working the tables this time. He was really nice and just attentive enough! I would say that Jackson Ave. serves up some of the best burgers you're going to get in downtown Naperville.

How did I not know of this place sooner??? I have just discover the best burger in town and surrounding towns. So many choices to choose from both beers and burgers! I decided to try The Grass Fed "Smokey" Burger (also can choose angus) , lettuce wrapped (no bun). It was delicious. Pepper jack cheese, arugula and chipotle aioli were a great combo. Most of the table ordered pretzel buns and raved about their burgers as well. For apps we shared the bacon wrapped jalapeño poppers and also the bacon wrapped tater tots. I preferred the poppers over the tots but a few at the table loved the tots. I will definitely return for my red meat fix. Usually after half a burger I push it away tired of the taste. NOT this time... Ate the whole delicious thing! Service was great and the draft beers were cold!

The burgers and the beers here are awesome. The topping were different and fresh. I got the Drunken Pear and my buddy got the Maui Wowi and we split it. Both were good but the Drunken Pear was the bomb. Great selection of beers.

My boyfriend and I went here for a quick burger and a beer for the first time and everything was delicious. The fried pickle burger was hands down one of the best burgers of my life, the goat cheese was also great. Jay was our server, he was the fucking man!We will be back no doubt.

Just stopped by for some burgers due to the good reviews, and I felt that they were deserving of the 4 stars overall. The hubs and I each ordered the grass-fed beef burgers - santa fe and the fried pickle. Quality of the beef definitely stood out, and the meat itself was cooked the way we wanted - medium and medium rare, not overcooked like most other burger joints. The pretzel bun made it even better - forgot how much I love that! I subbed out the regular fries for sweet potato fries - they didn't sprinkle them with sugar, so I really appreciated that. I hate when restaurants have the tendency to add sugar when the sweet potatoes already have the natural sweetness. The only thing I didn't care for was the apple slaw - too vinegary for my taste, but if you're on a paleo diet of some sort, it would definitely be up your alley. All in all, there were certainly more positives than negatives. The place is a little small, but we got seated at 8pm immediately on a Monday night even though there were some football games playing on their big screen TVs. Nice and cozy, good atmosphere, and of course decent quality burgers. I look forward to going back to try a different flavor combo.

I had a group of friends that went here on Saturday night at 7 pm. I called ahead and reserved a table for 10 with no problems. They of course waited for everyone to show up to use the table which is really not a big deal. It's totally understandable. The ambiance was casual, though pretty noisy. I don't know if it was because there was a game on, but it was too loud to hear someone 2 seats down from me. Maybe we should've picked somewhere else for a large group. +1 The drunken pear burger is delicious. Sliced pear, goat cheese, arugula and a vinaigrette and it was amazing! I had it with the grass-fed beef. My only complaint about the burger was that my medium-well burger was well done and pretty dry. Without the goat cheese and vinaigrette, it would've been hard to swallow without some sort of sauce. It came with house fries. I got sweet potato fries instead. Though, after tasting my husband's fries, I wish I would've gone with the hose fries. Sweet potato fries are good, but just the standard bagged sweet potato fries (i.e. not fresh). I had a Victory Golden Monkey which was only $6 and my husband had a Gumball Head (yeah, they actually had it). Good spot for sports watching or a quick bite. Not so great for a large group. The waitress did well managing us, though and we had no problems splitting the bill 7 or so ways.

It's true. This is the best kept burger secret around. One complaint, the burger list is so long, and so tempting, it was almost impossible to choose one. The fries, unlike other Parmesan truffle fries, are crisp and flavorful without being dumped on with cheese or oil. We had great beers, a lovely server, and a cool atmosphere. The best bar in downtown Naperville.

I really do not want too many people learning that Jackson Avenue Pub has some of the best burgers and THE best hand cut fries around. Nice decor, always good music playing. A couple of big screen TVs to watch a game.....and great food. Psssst......go somewhere else!!!

I've lived in the area for five years now and I'm finally hitting up all the hot spots of Downtown Naperville. My friend and I had dinner in the area this past Friday night and had some time to kill before seeing a movie at the Ogden 6 so we walked around and found this place. Let's just say I had NO idea this place even existed! It's not that it's hidden, I just don't think I've ever walked or driven down this street to notice it was there. We decided to kill some time and grab a beer here. For a Friday night it was a little crowded but we found a table in the back of the bar which was empty. Our waitress brought us menus - we were stuffed from our dinner at Neo, but I did check it out and DO want to go back and try their burgers - both burgers and appetizers looked pretty good and worth trying sometime. My friend ordered a Solemn Oath draft, and I ordered a Summer Shandy - they don't have drink specials on Friday nights so that was a bummer but it was a nice little place to check out for sure. I will be back!

I remember when this place was called Grumpy Bulldog (few years ago), it was one of my favorite places to go. We stopped in for a quick bite to eat and the place looks the exact same. Unfortunately the menu has changed, we tried the fried avacado, it was overcooked and not appetizing at all. I don't recommend this place for food.

Great food!!! This place is a small neighborhood joint, nothing fancy, but it's got a really good beer list and delicious burgers. This is the type of place you go to again and again. Their burgers are creative and cooked to perfection and the pretzel bun is to die for. Definitely a place to check out.

This place is such a hidden gem! I love pub food, but always find it difficult to find good pub fare in the burbs. Jackson Ave did not disappoint! We went there tonight for apps only - bacon wrapped dates, chicken quesadillas, and sliders. Everything was fantastic (especially the dates - my favorite)! The service was also impeccable. My only complaint is that this place has a more "bar" vibe, rather than "pub" feel. I wouldn't call it cozy, charming, or inviting - the feel of the place is merely that of a watering hole, really no character. If you've ever been to Elephant & Castle, Poag Mahones, or Dylan's downtown - you know what I mean by "pub," and this is not it. Still a a great find, and we look forward to many more visits in the future.

I stop in here every week or so. It's always a lively crowd. Good music, good people and excellent service. Kevin, Brandon and I believe her name was Katie last night were great. I got the grilled chicken flat bread. Came out in less than 15 minutes and was very good. I could taste every product on it as well. Great beer and liquor selection.

You have to try the drunken pear and the truffle parmesean fries. This place is sooo soooo good that we come here almost every week! Service is great and parking isn't horrible. Great gem in downtown Naperville.

This place is a great place to grab a burger, beer, and a game on one of their several big screen tvs. The atmosphere is an upscale, trendy bar. The food is over the top delicious! Any burger you order is out of this world! I loved their wedge salad. Go early as it's a small place that fills up fast! Love everything about this place! Best burger in town!

Love this place - regular for lunch, dinner and late night. The downtown spot for townies. Best burger in the region; solid selection of craft beers; laid back upscale atmosphere; owned by brothers who grew up in Napers. Angus goat cheese burger, medium on pretzel bun with pasta salad and Solemn Oath pint.

Ok went into this place with low expectations. Got into the bar and it was small and crowded with no place to sit. My buddies were meeting us here on one of their suggestions to grab some beers and eat. I was a bit crabby about going here for dinner but I was quickly educated. A table opened up just as my buddies showed up so we grabbed it and got some more beers and apps. Appetizers! Ok we order jalapeno poppers and it's usually some BS breaded frozen little fried balls so you know what you are ordering. The order shows up and they are hand made jalapenos stuffed with a delicious cheese and wrapped in bacon. Not the frozen pizza roll like things. They were excellent. We also ordered tots that were stuffed with cheese and wrapped in bacon. Food was like some Betty Crocker appetizer blow out. I was impressed. Ordered a burger and sweet potatoes fries both which were excellent. Beer selection wasn't huge but it was quality. So to wrap it up this is my favorite bar in the old "Thrill" as of this year. Food was great and the staff was friendly. If you haven't been here I'd recommend it. When I shoot out to Naperville to see the old buddies I now have this on my list of places to meet.

Our usual dinner group of 12 + an infant dined at 7pm on a Friday night. We encountered a minor hiccup when we arrived as tables had not been put together for our reservation. After a short 10 minute wait we were seated, so no biggie. Great beer selection as usual. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their burgers (all cooked exactly as ordered). Service was great. Our servers were able to keep up with our large group!

Small, intimate burger place. Plenty of craft beers on tap (I recommend the Rogue Dead Guy Ale), and plenty of bottled beer to choose from. There is seating at the bar and about 12 tables for seating. Like I said...small. Lunch was not a problem for seating but I would imagine dinner would be packed. I ordered the grass fed California burger, minus the ranch. It was excellent. Sweet potato fries are worth having too. Overall I recommend this little joint. Good food, good beer, what more can you ask for?

Jackson Ave serves up burgers that are damn near perfection. I had the goat cheese burger, although I thought about ordering something else. There's something about restaurants and goat cheese, the portions are always so tiny! Not at Jackson Ave! The goat cheese covered my whole burger and some oozed over the sides. Every bite was perfectly cheesy. They don't screw around on the upcharging either. You can get your burger on a house bun, pretzel roll, or as a wrap, at no additional charge. So of course I went with the far superior pretzel roll. They do charge additional if you want grass fed beef (+$1) or for "upgraded" fries. But the house fries were really good. My husband had the truffle fries, also very good. They were a little too savory paired with my goat cheese burger, so my regular house fries are surprisingly just as satisfying as the truffle fries. They were cooked perfectly. French fry heaven! I perused the beer menu which had a lot of good options. Lots of fancy drafts I've never heard of from Two Brothers, and lots of stuff I have (Goose Island 312, Miller Lite). It was equally busy as it was slow for a Tuesday night. Mostly an older crowd (to me, that's 50-ish) and a much more relaxed environment than Jimmy's, Features, Bar Louie, or other downtown spots. It doesn't look like the frat boys or bachelorette parties are going to hang out here. Jackson Ave replaced the Grumpy Bulldog, and my only memory of the Grumpy Bulldog involved rubbing a friend's scarf on my face, taking a tequila shot, and then throwing up in the bathroom at Jimmy's. Oh, and the art in the Jackson Ave ladies bathroom is beautiful. Two burgers and a beer only set us back about $30. And we left totally stuffed. It probably wasn't the best choice after light eats at the Eddie Merlot Yelp event, but I don't regret going to Jackson Ave!

I was thoroughly disappointed with this place after visiting for the first time yesterday. Needless to say, I won't be back. The interior is identical to the bar it replaced, The Grumpy Bulldog. Our waitress wasn't very personable. Sure, she was friendly and brought us our drinks quickly, but that was about all. A couple came in with their infant in a stroller and sat down behind us. The infant, of course, was crying loudly and the parents were clearly oblivious to their child's distress. I became worried and starting drinking my beer quickly. I tried a Prairie Path by Two Brothers, which I really enjoyed. I was about to order a second when a party of two adults and six small (under 8 years old) children came in and seated themselves next to us. The children were waving balloon animals arounds- smacking each other as well as myself. That right there was our cue to pay our bill and get out of there as fast as possible. Which is exactly what we did. I don't know what people are thinking when they bring small children into a place that considers themselves a "craft beer pub." Small children generally don't do very well sitting on stools at a high-top table. Maybe that's just my observation, though. I was very annoyed; all I wanted to do was enjoy a beer, post-baby shower with two of my friends. Yet enjoyment was not achieved, seeing as how I felt like I was seated at a bar a family friendly restaurant (Chili's or Applebees come to mind). Thanks but no thanks.

Just to update now that Jackson has proven they are here to stay... Gumballhead on tap permanently! I love their beer selection and with more 3 Floyd's beers on tap, the bar has been raised. The staff is friendly and knows their regulars while treating newcomers the same. The food continues to be excellent with new specials weekly. If you haven't had the drumsticks, you should. And though I love their burgers don't think that's all they have. Their salads and home made dressings are just as good. I'm pleased to see these guys are doing well and if I'm spending money in Naperville, it's most likely going to be here!

I went here looking to have a good burger to hold me over until dinner. Man, did Jackson pub deliver. The goat cheese burger was one of the best sandwiches I have had. Looking toward future visits, I believe I would come here again but, some things concerned me. They were blasting bad music. And the service was just okay. Beer selection looked very good for a small place and the food was phenomenal. I could see this becoming a bad hole in the wall if they keep on letting the managers and employees drink on the job and do whatever they want.

Excellent burgers, French fries, service. Also try the cucumber salad, nice and fresh! Great for watching games and small enough to enjoy an intimate lunch. Great beer selection also!

pretzel buns and grass fed burgers? i think yes! This place is a bit small but if you get a table by the open windows then it's a perfect night for beer, burgers and football! All the food was really delicious and i was pleasantly surprised by our portions, definitely worth the money because you get a big burger and a handful of fries!

Found this place as a recommendation on yelp when looking for a good burger place close to Bolingbrook. Not a huge place but really good burger and a good selection of craft beers. I got the California burger on a pretzel bun with Parmesan fries (both recommended by the locals and the bartender). Everything was really good... Loved the burger. The bar had a lot of charm. I would recommend this place for a good burger and a beer to sit and watch a game anytime.

Had lunch with my girlfriend here. Busy bar and dining area. 5-6 televisions displayed throughout the establishment. Friendly staff and service. We sat at the bar until a table was available.. Only a 5 minute wait. I ordered the classic burger with angus beef. I asked for medium-well. On Sundays, they have $3 miller lite pints!!! The beer was fresh, served in cold glass! My burger was piping hot and very tasty!! Fresh veggies and fries. Burgers were priced decently at $11. You get your monies worth !! I would recommend this spot for lunch anytime.

I can't believe I have yet to review this place. If you are in the area best burger in town. Spring for grass feed beef! Great beer selection that rotates, clever apps (spicy tater tots are solid), and very friendly staff. If you have been to DMK Burger Bar in Lombad/Chicago give these guys a try... located downtown Naperville so parking sucks a bit.

Please don't take my seat by the window. I love the ambience, food, service and drinks in this little hidden gem! Never had a bad selection. Even their margaritas are good.

I dropped in for a weekday lunch, and found they have a nice selection of seventeen 1/2 lb burgers for lunch. To boot, the $11 burgers are only $8 til 4pm (grass fed beef is another $1). I had the Smokey burger (with arugula and chipotle aioli), medium, and that's just the way it came. My colleagues asked for the Classic medium well and a Spicy medium, and they got them as requested, and they were all good. The burger selections are nice (see photo of menu). I'll be back to have a beer or two and they have a nice selection on tap and in bottles. Be forewarned though - it's a smaller space, so probably avoid peak periods if you don't want to stand. This place deserves it's good 4 star ratings and I liked it. It's right next to Tango to the west and I can't remember what was there before.

Finally made it to Jackson Ave for the first time about a week ago and was very pleasantly surprised! Probably one of the best burgers I've had, and the bacon wrapped tots......no words. Great beer selection and great service. A friendly quaint neighborhood feeling place with great service, food, and beer selection!

Stopped in around dinner time on a Thursday night. Greeted immediately by Katie who took care of us. Great craft beer menu, great apps, and one of the better burgers I have had in a while. Truffle fries on point too.

Sorry, but if this is Naperville's best bar, they've get a long way to go. Burnt bacon-wrapped dates, over-cooked burger, and a waitress who first ask how your food is until it's paid for, and then says "you should have said something" well, sure, I should have. If being a waitress was my job. Ask how the food is before you push more beer on customers.

Jackson Ave Pub is my favorite bar in downtown Naperville. The entire establishment is just one room, with the bar on one side, some tables on the other, and just enough room to walk through in the middle. They always have a rotating selection of awesome beers, and the food is fantastic! I've eaten here many times and always been very happy. Their burgers made from grass-fed beef are fantastic, and are available 17 different ways (really!) My favorite though, is their chicken sandwich, which is available in the same 17 varieties as the burgers. Try the "Border" chicken sandwich: one of the best sandwiches I've ever had. It's grilled chicken breast topped with salsa verde, pepper jack, avacado, and fried tortilla strips. Oh, and it comes with enough fries to feed a small family... Everyone who works here is great: very friendly and helpful. It's the kind of place where they start remembering your name after you've been there a few times - very cool. Other reviewers have mentioned the bathroom situation (not enough of 'em) but that's only been a problem once when I've been there. I would give this place 4 stars if it was located almost anywhere else other than downtown Naperville. I'll just leave it at that..... So, if someone you know wants to go out in downtown Naperville, this is the place to go!

This has got to be the best burger place in Downtown Naperville. Their jalapeño bites are a great starter. They have a large selection of beers and grass fed burger options. Their prices are above normal but when your looking for grass fed that's typical. I will definitely be coming back to this place when I'm in town.

I came here on a Saturday evening - maybe seven o'clock. It was kind of dead, being so early, but that didn't stop the place from being totally friggin loud! I don't want to sound like a crotchety old lady (oh man, I sound like a crotchety old lady), but I could barely hear what my handsome man date was saying to me. I needed one of those ear horns or something. Otherwise, this place was okay. Very casual, and the servers were really nice. Clientele was a little sketch: basically a sausagefest of early thirties...kinda sad, too-drunk-at-9PM type of dudes. But they're harmless unless you're a hot chick. If you ARE a hot chick, you might have some dude with stinky bref hit on you a few minutes. But it's no biggie because you can always excuse yourself and wait in line for the bathroom for 10 minutes because THERE'S ONLY ONE BATHROOM! Specifically, there's only one bathroom per gender. Like, one toilet, one sink, one door. The pits!

I liked this pub in the heart of downtown Naperville. I only hung out for about an hour, had a couple beers, and visited with co-workers. I see now they have a pretty nice selection of beer and liquor - I would like to visit again if I'm in the area. Non-pretentious. I like it.

Great place to grab a burger! One of the best burgers I have ever had. Even better place to grab a beer. Firestone Walker Double Jack is always on tap. No better place in Naperville to grab both!

Great craft beer list and great burgers. My bride and I usually split a burger ( they're pretty big and there a lot of fries) and try something from the extensive beer list. Always great. Beer list is on beermenus beermenus.com/places/538… - Great stuff for Hop Heads and Hop avoiders too. Both in Draft and packaged. Highly recommended.

This is where the Grumpy Bulldog used to be...that place had a killer beer list for awhile, then started to die down. So hopefully this place can pick it back up and get some good options. For a first week open, it definitely had some of the best beer options in Naperville (soooooo sick of drinking Leine's all the time). The bartender seemed like he had good taste in beer, so I'm not too worried. I am really rooting for this place, because most of the other bars in Naperville have boring or standard beer selections, in my opinion. Onward...what a great burger menu! I really had a hard time deciding. You get a choice between Angus beef or grass-fed, which is nice (most places do not offer you a grass-fed option). Plus, the toppings all were to die for. I really wanted a Caesar burger (topped with parm and a fried egg?!), or the Asian burger, but opted for the Goat Cheese Burger, which had goat cheese, a fried tomato, and garlic aioli...yummmmm. It was a little overcooked for what I requested (medium...turned out closer to well), but the flavor, juiciness and toppings made up for it. This isn't the first time I've had a burger overcooked, so I wasn't really peeved about it since the flavor made up for it. AND: you get a choice between a regular bun, a croissant, or a pretzel roll. See what I mean?? OPTIONS! Also...they weren't on the menu when we went, but he offered us a better version of his french fries, which were tossed in truffle oil and parmesan. This alone is a good reason to go to the bar...they were astounding. Probably the best french fries we've had in a LONG time. If this place maintains some decent craft beers and micro brews, then I think we will be there often to drink. Otherwise, we will be there often for some good bar food! Either way, I liked it!

I don't drink but their burgers are fantastic. I am a sucker for pretzel buns. I haven't had the same burger twice. The bacon wrapped jalapeno's burned my butt. I've been back 3 or 4 times now. Brought my wife, colleagues and a couple of buddy's. They all enjoyed it as much as I did.

Best bar and best burgers in downtown Naperville. As you've likely read, it's replaced the old Grumpy Bulldog though menu aside you wouldn't have noticed anyways. The tap selection is lighter in quantity, but still fine on quality (always at least one home team brew from Solemn Oath). The music selection also manages to be consistently good as well, a rarity these days. In fact this is exactly how I'd build my bar, well OK maybe a few decor changes here and there...

Always great food, smart beer staff, good music / sports, and a good selection of craft beers. A small hideaway, but worth a stop on your night out or for some pub food. I highly recommend the guacamole burger...had it a number if times. Always cooked correctly to order, something most bars neglect.

I had been wanting to try this spot for a while, so recently I stopped in for a quick burger and a beer with a friend. Overall, there is nothing really great about this spot, yet nothing is really wrong with it. Very good beer selection if you're into beer, decent tap options. Ordered the mac and cheese balls as an appetizer, they were undercooked (cool/cold centers) and kinda flavorless. Friend ordered chili which was WAAAY too salty and obviously a canned foodservice product, I had the Giardinera Burger which was decent, but nothing special. Given all the options in the area I probably won't be back. Service was average at best.

Recently moved form the city to the suburbs and was worried that the food would be a step down. Not at Jackson Ave Pub! Now I'm not saying exactly Kuma's quality but pretty great burgers with similar pretzel buns. We took our food to go but looks like a nice beer list. Expect to become a regular here!

You can never have too many good burger places. Add good beer into the mix and you've got the best thing to happen to downtown Naperville since the Bush administration (I've only lived in the area since 2008). I visited Jackson Ave Pub today for lunch with some friends. You can find their menu on their website, and it consists mostly of appetizers, salads, and burgers. However, they have a long list of very interesting burgers. You get to choose between a half pound of Angus or grass-fed beef (for $1 more), and you get to pick between a pretzel or house bun. The menu has the burger price listed as $11, but it's actually $8 during lunch (until 4 pm). I'm not sure if that is every day or just weekdays. I went with the prime burger (horseradish cream and caramelized onions) with the grass-fed beef on a pretzel roll. It was a very good burger. My only complaint is that the horseradish cream was rather wimpy. If someone is purposefully ordering something with horseradish, it should have some kick to it. That being said, I thoroughly enjoyed the burger. You also get to choose a side. House fries come with the burger, but you can upgrade to sweet potato ($1 more) or fries cooked in truffle oil with parmesan ($2 more). I went with the tuffle oil and parmesan. How could I not??! They brought the house fries out with the burger by mistake, and when I mentioned it to the server, she brought me a heaping portion of the correct fries. I must say both are quite good, but obviously the nod goes to the truffle oil and parmesan. Unfortunately, I had to return to work after lunch, so I skipped the beer. I will be back another time to enjoy a good burger and a good beer.

Went there after a wonderful meal on New Years Eve at Sullivans. Nice atmosphere. There was 6 of us and we stayed for a few rounds of beers and martini's. I expected a bill of $100-120 and surprised to find $230 bill! I see now why they don't put prices on their drink menu that or they overcharged us because of New Years. May be nice for the Naperville people but too pricey for me.

Friday night I was walking around downtown Naperville looking for a low-key place to have dinner and a few drinks. I haven't been in the area lately, and I decided to stroll past the Old Grumpy Bulldog to see if anything had replaced it. I was glad to see that the Jackson Ave Pub had opened in its place. The layout is still the same as it used to be with the bar on the left and a few tables to the right. The place did look a bit cleaner and more refreshed than it used to, so that was a positive as well. We took a seat at a table by the window so that we could enjoy the breeze. We were quickly greeted by a very nice waitress. She was prompt with our drink orders and checked on us often so we were very happy with the service. There are still several beer options even though the sign outside talks about the various Scotch and Whisky options that are available. For cider beer lovers like myself, you have two options, Angry Orchard ($5) or Redd's Apple Ale ($5); For non beer drinkers there is a full bar as well so you have options. The food menu was pretty diverse, there were several appetizers, entrée salads and then a ton of burger options which you can have made with Angus beef, Grass-fed beef ($1 more), or Chicken and served on either a white roll or pretzel roll. I ordered the BBQ Grass-fed beef burger on a pretzel roll w/out onion; it was cooked to a perfect medium and was juicy and delicious. I liked that there wasn't too much seasoning on the beef, it tasted fresh and paired well with the bbq sauce and bacon. I picked fries as my side which were tasty, but for $1 more you can get truffle or sweet potato fries. I will definitely be back for a burger soon. There are so many options to try and I want to eat as many as possible.

First off, this is a small place and will never have the huge beer selection others do. If you liked the Grumpy Bulldog, I'm sure you will enjoy this place just as much...maybe more. I really wanted to like this place. I went here with my wife and son and we sat at a corner table. First impression was how loud it was inside and there were only a few people there. I asked for a beer list and was told it was not yet developed. ??? So I go to the tappers to see what they have. I had a taste of the Solemn Oath, which was good so I went back to my table to order. Our waitress says "we're currently out of that" I explained to her I just tasted it. So we get our drinks and order our food. We ordered the wings, a Bleu Burger, Smokey Burger and Border Burger. All were the angus. My wife upgraded to truffle parm. fries. Drinks take a while to arrive. I finish my beer and not trusting the waitress, I stroll over for another taste. This time I try the Red Rye. Finally our burgers show up. Cooked to order, but for some reason were rather bland and tasteless. Wondering if the grass fed beef was used instead. No Truffle fries, so had to remind her about those. Wings show up after the burgers. 6 med. size wings for $8 seems a bit much but my son likes them a lot. To her credit, the waitress removed the wings from the bill. I'm hoping they make the nessary adjustments with the service/food as well as having a beer list and I think the place will do well.

What a goddamned shame... It wouldn't have taken much to move the star count to 3, 4 or even 5. And this is a place that you really want to love, if for no other reason then to prevent it from becoming some corporate concept sink hole. Obviously, the location and ambience rock, as they did with it's two predecessors-The Red Door and The Grumpy. The service was attentive and friendly, and the beer selection, while not quite on par with The Grumpy, is excellent. It's the food that was disappointing. Both my grass fed Ceasar Burger and my wife's grass fed whatever burger (shame on me-I don't remember what she ordered) were appreciably overcooked. I ordered mine medium, thinking that traditional medium is characterized by a juicy, pink center. It was more like the venison steaks we used to choke down at my college roommate's Grandmother's house on the occasional Sunday afternoon when he could either black mail or bribe me into joining him for an early dinner, i.e. it was grilled into submission, and resembled something that was synthesized in a back room chemistry lab. When I pointed out to the waitress that my burger was more on par with well done, she agreed but offered not so much as a "Sorry, I'll let the chef know" which is all that would have been required to make me a happy shiny. The fried egg on my ceasar burger was also vulcanized to the point of being a liability rather than an asset to the burger. The kid's Mac and Cheese wasn't very good, but the Bleu Cheese fries were delicious. Also, it's expensive-$65 with tip for two burgers, a kid's mac and cheese, bleu cheese fries, and 2 Lil Sumpin Sumpin Ales.

We like it! One of those places you can always rely on to have an interesting craft beer menu, good burgers and a few games on the tvs. A plentiful menu of options for how to dress up your burger. Service was good, Beer was better.

Cozy pub in the center of downtown Naperville. They have an excellent selection of top shelf whiskeys and beers. High quality handmade burgers, fries, and sweet potato fries, with a burger centric menu with approx. 20 themed burgers. They are very kid friendly. The staff is courteous, skilled, professional, and friendly. There aren't any cons, surprisingly enough. Very worth the visit! You will be satisfied!

Mediocre at best. Went there with my teenage son and a buddy of his for lunch and arrived at 12:15. Should have figured something was wrong because when we entered there were only five other people in the place. Two women at one table, and a mother and her two young children at another. We stood at the entrance for a moment kind of expecting someone to say something... anything... but... nothing. No "welcome" ... "how's it going?" ... Nothing. I had to ask the guy behind the bar, who was (I later learned) was talking with the cook if we seat ourselves. "Go ahead." After the bartender/waiter took our drink order and left, my son's buddy said "what's his problem." I knew what he was talking about. While the guy was courteous, polite and accurate he seemed to be mad that we were there. Weird. Maybe he was sick or something. The food was mediocre at best. I have no idea what people are raving about here. The fries were soggy, each of our burgers were not cooked to order. We each ordered Med-Rare but none of us received as such. We received: rare, med-well, and well. I have no idea how this could have happened but it did. So, would I recommend this place to a friend? Nope... not if I wanted to retain any semblance of self-respect. Oh.. the place stunk like stale beer too! Not appetizing.

I can't believe that I like this place so much considering I don't eat hamburgers. :) The #1 thing it has going for it, in my opinion, is the beer list. I am a huge fan of many of the beers they have on tap and love that so many are local. The menu has some delicious sounding burgers but I do wish they would diversify a little bit for us non-hamburger eaters. I ordered the goat cheese burger but subbed in a chicken breast. It was delicious! The chicken was breaded and fried though and being health-conscious I would prefer it to be grilled. I'll have to ask next time if that is an option. Also there is no kid's menu. They offer a chicken fingers appetizer that works but $8 is pretty steep for meal for a 19 month old. My dining companions all really enjoyed their meals. Service has been great both times we have been there. I am sure we will be back to eat again, however I hope the owners consider diversifying the menu a little bit and also adding a kid's menu. I would say this is a perfect spot to meet friends for some good beers and plan to do just that soon.

Absolutely nothing special. I'm so disappointed that the Grumpy Bulldog was replaced with this. We went on a Friday night around 8 and there was almost no one here. The staff was awkward and inattentive. The appetizer wasn't that good. If you like burgers I guess you'd like this place. Just blah. The beer selection wasn't impressive either.

This place has one of the best burgers in the county, and many varieties at that. Ashley behind the bar is very friendly, not you typical Naperville bar tender. Tip her Well!! Def a favorite for lunch or hang out after work.

This is a nice burger joint in downtown Naperville. Two great things about this place: craft beer (not world of beer selection, but definitely better than your typical restaurant) and burger combinations. I had the guacamole burger and my wife had the goat cheese burger with a pretzel bun. I was satisfied with my burger, but my wife thought her burger was the best she had ever had. Service was OK, nothing spectacular. If the prices were lower (they are in line with typical Naperville prices, which is high) I would probably give them 5 stars. One other note, they actually served a nice size serving of fries with their burgers. It seems as though restaurants have gotten very conservative with how much they add to the meal, well Jackson Ave. Pub did it right and I was quite full when I left.

My fiance and I were sad to see Grumpy Bulldog go, considering its epic beer selection. However, when I noticed that this place had opened up in the same spot I decided to give it a whirl. So glad I did! Let's start with beer. They've been open just 8 days but the beers on tap currently include: -Leinenkugel Summer Shandy -Allagash White -Ska Brewing's Modus Hoperandi -Arrogant Bastard -Two Brothers Domaine Dupage -Bell's Oberon -Kidnapped by Vikings (from Naperville's own Solemn Oath brewery) There were at least two or three others, though right now I don't recall which ones. Our server Sarah informed us that they will be adding more soon and may be swapping out some of the current ones as well. I'm not really into Scotch, but they do have a big selection of specialty Scotches available if that's your thing. OK, next up FOOD! The Bulldog didn't really have a lot to offer in that department, so I was delighted to see that Jackson Ave Pub has stepped it up considerably in that department. I'm vegetarian, and was delighted to find numerous salads, appetizers like pita chips & hummus or mac & cheese, potato salad, and much more. Plus, their extensive burger selection included a veggie burger option! For meat eaters like my fiance, you can enjoy either grass fed or angus burger with an incredible list of options and toppings. I went with the Greek burger on a pretzel bun--which was AMAZING! The veggie burger is topped with tomato, onion, feta cheese, and olive tapenade. Fiance had the smoky burger with a grass fed burger and loved it. We split the fries--they offer several varieties including Duck Fat, Sweet Potato, and House Fries; but our server told us about an option not yet on the menu: Parmesan Truffle! I gotta say, those were out of this world and I could eat myself to death and die happy with Parmesan Truffle Fries in my esophagus. The vibe is pretty low key, a welcome environment in contrast with meat market brofests like Features and Rizzo's. Most of the patrons when we went were middle aged, and the music playing via satellite radio included artists like The Shins and other acoustic/indie rock types that definitely didn't drown out conversation. There are a few TVs showing sports and an episode of some CBS crime procedural starring Leelee Sobieski; but overall the noise factor seems pretty low. Be prepared to park further away--it is downtown Naperville--or if you live in the neighborhood like we do, just walk to it. I am so excited for a new, classy but casual establishment that serves food and beers I love! I hope they do well and attract a small but faithful crowd of patrons.
