Snuggery Menu

Sorry, We are updating this restaurant menu details.

What a mistake this was. Went to the Snuggery for Saint Patrick's day corned beef and cabbage. Started off bad when I had to wait at the door to be seated for 15 minutes with maybe only 6 tables occupied, my mistake walked in at same time someone else did and hostess sat them and socialized while taking their drink order. Finally got a seat, a beer with green die in it barely mixed in and ordered my food. The dinner came cold, vegetables (carrots, potatoes and cabbage) were hard and under cooked. The corned beef was a butchered, small grisly fatty pieces. Never again would I go here food and service is terrible. This was my first time in the restaurant and wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

Friday night in August, so we knew we'd have to wait for a table. That was ok and we enjoyed a drink outside and looked at the menu while we waited. We ordered our food as soon as we sat down and waited and waited and waited some more, until finally the manager came over (unsolicited) and apologized for the wait. He assured us our order would be the next one out. It wasn't, but it came within the next 10 minutes. Cajun chicken sandwiches were great and as ordered. Half slab of ribs looked like an appetizer (half of a half). When we complained they brought another half slab that was as small as the first. None of us had ever seen a half slab as small but apparently that is the standard serving size at the Snuggery. The menu touted the bbq pork sandwich as a half pound of deliciousness but it was LOADED with enormous chunks of fat. When we complained about that, the manager said their bbq was "untrimmed", as if that was a good thing? We will NOT be back.

It's ok .. No soap in the bathrooms to wash my hands . Management should be much more on top of that if it's that busy they should be looking more to make sure the little things are taken care of. I mean what do the employees use to wash their hands after a visit to the restroom.. Gross to think about

Small portions, food took 45 min to come out. Service was slow. Nice scenery and cold beer.

I wrote a previous review that was way too positive. They took the best thing off the menu, the chicken and I believe it's only served on one night during the week now. They say it's because their kitchen is too small to make so much chicken, everyone liked it and many ordered it, and they couldn't keep up I guess. This gives me no incentive to go there, but for the view when the weather is nice. They used to throw a fun football party, but don't any longer. In fact, they replaced their football jerseys you could win, w/ a lame shirt. The help doesn't even know what to do on any given NFL Sunday, which is a dirty shame, because that was the only reason to go here when the weather isn't nice. I suspect we won't be there much anymore, save for the summer and that's only because it's close to our home. We've been going elsewhere for good broasted chicken now & will find somewhere else to go to watch football.

Really not shocked by all the negative reviews...All people want is consistensy and you can't get it here..It's always hit or miss here. I've been a few times and I can recall pretty slow service. I understand sometimes places get really busy but a heads up would be nice if they know its going to take over an hour to get your mediocre food. The last time we were there, there was a UHC fight on tv...I don't watch UFC so I thought just MAYBE there would be a quieter area in the place...Nope. Couldn't hear my friends talking unless I was yelling at the top of my lungs as UHC fight took over the bar..That night, my drink stayed empty most of the night before anyone noticed. We had to flag someone down to get another drink. At that point, we just left and called it a night....Completely ruined my night out. After reading the post about food poisening, I will definititely not be coming back here.

I was here for a fundraiser for a little boy, Brandon, who has leukemia, the water was beautiful, the drinks were perfect, the staff was friendly, all in all, an amazing afternoon at an amazing venue. Despite the distance from my house, I'll definitely be back!

Cool, I like this place, from the food to their drinks and they have pretty good specials on their drinks most of the time so I have no gripes there. It is situated along the fox river and I like how you can sit at one of their booths along the windows and just watch the river and how they have docks that people can park their boat and be able to come inside. I usually go to McHenry when coming back from Wisconsin and I tend to make this one of the stops that I make when I pass through.

I am not sure why the reviews are so bad about this place, we frequent The Snuggery (aka Snug Harbor) very often. It is right on the river and the food is really good for bar food. The broasted chicken and mashed potatoes are a personal fave, along with the BLT salad. Service is sometimes slow- which is why I give it a 4. Otherwise, its about the nicest bar we have in McHenry. It's a great place to visit during the summer where you can sit in the sun, watch the boats go by and sip on a cold one. NFL season is also fun.. they always have great raffles during the big games.

We took our granddaughter to Snuggery today to celebrate her 5th birthday. The food was terrific. I had their pulled pork special of the day and it was fabulous. My wife said her salad was great. We had the fried string beans for starts and they were out of this world. But, what really made our experience wonderful was our server, Tara. She took care of us in a way that was really above and beyond. She took our picture for us, found a lighter from another server when we told her we forgot one to light our granddaughter's birthday cupcake. She just went out of her way to make our time there special. Will definitely be back.

I love this place. The price is right and the food is great. Great patio when the weather is right. Great views from the booth. For all of the reasons why Pat G. gave then a one star I give them 4 stars. Even my 83 year old mother likes to come here. Now I will agree the service during late lunch early dinner can be a little slow it has been great the other times I have gone. I will keep coming back.

You can tell how good a restaurant is doing by how clean the bathrooms are maintained. Met my friend for lunch there today, when I arrived I went to use the bathroom and it smelled horrible, large garbage can overflowing with paper towels which were also on the floor, no toilet paper in the holders, and the toilet in the stall dirty. I reported this to the manager then went to the table to have lunch. Forty five minutes later after the meal I go back to wash up, nothing was touched, same condition as earlier. I asked my waitress to get the manager for me and I blasted him for the dirty restroom. Maybe guys aren't supposed to care about dirty facilities??? Manager didn't show he really cared about my complaint.

went for fish fry. it was small pieces with crispy coating. not cod like everywhere else in mchenry. the cole slaw is amazing. our service was good, but it wasn't busy that night. the dinning area was quieter then I remember in the past. this place has the best outside dinning on the river. we will be back this summer.

Was looking for an al fresco type dining experience, wanting to try something new for a change. Checked yelp & was surprised to see the Snuggery was awarded 2.5 stars. It seems the main issues were poor service & long wait times for food. Decided to give it a try anyway. Nice view of the (albeit, gross looking) river & plenty of tables outside. Waitress wasn't too attentive, and was seen sitting down at a table gossiping with the other servers. Food arrived quickly! Had the pulled pork sandwich, which was fresh, hot & delicious! Loved the pickles on top. And the bun was very good. Other people at my table enjoyed the beer can chicken (great mashed potatoes!) & a cheeseburger. I also had a margarita, which was sub par at best, couldn't tell if there was much alcohol in there? Prices were average on all food and drink. All in all, good food, a different change of scenery than the regular food establishments in McHenry County. Probably will never come on the weekends, for fear it will be too crowded. Also will never frequent in the fall/winter/spring ... this feels like a summer place. Typical bar with (average to above) average food. Good place to grab a bite to eat during the week. Not a classy place (bar food) & the waitresses are Hooters wannabes (you can definitely tell they are "suburban" type girls). Will try different places before I would return.

I'm with Heather N on this one- mainly cause she's my twin and I dined with her on both visits. ;) I will back up what she said as far as the fish fry. Most area restaurants that do a Friday fish fry as 'all you can eat'. For $9.99- we assumed this to be the case with The Snuggery, alas, it was not. The fish was good- but we would have gone elsewhere to spread our money a little further. On our second visit- my 'cajun chicken sandwich' was mearly a dry deep fried piece of chicken with some seasoning on it, and my sister got a 'pulled pork' sandwich that smelled and tasted about four days old. The service has always been less then stellar- think Hooters revamped, with snotty attitudes. Although the restaurant itself is nicely decorated with a big bar and lots of TV's, we most definetely will NOT be back for their food, twice was MORE then enough to figure that out!

When here last year ('10) when they were still called Snug Habor, we sat outside and enjoyed burgers and a couple of drinks from the Thursday night drink menu. The burgers were awesome and we knew our waitress from high school so that was an added bonus. Had a great time there! Went back a second time, the service was awful and food was sub par. This time we sat inside and were seated at a table that wasn't even clean, so they flagged a busboy who merely wiped it with a dry cloth. Our waitress was quite rude, the bar didn't have Disaronno (okay, not every bar has to have it, but our waitress told us they did) and we sampled other things from there menu which informed me to keep me expectations low if I ever come back. I haven't gone back since they changed their name and menu, but they seem to still pull in a crowd on summer weekends.

I had the ragin Cajun chicken sandwich and it was on the dry side, partly due to the chicken breast being cut in half to make sure it was cooked thoroughly. Well it was over cooked. My friend had the pork sliders and she loved them. My husband had the chicken sandwich with cheese and avocados, same thing, his was cut in half to make sure it was fully cooked. We loved all the tv screens with all the football games!!! It is a great place til hang with friends and have an okay meal, but not for bringing out of town guests.

This was the third time eating and drinking at the Snuggery the last two times (Last year) the food was marginal at best but it was on the river and a fun place , This time except for the dock attendants taking your ropes as you pull up in the boat This place was horrible , we waited over 45 minutes for sandwiches and fried food I had the Flat bread chicken which was ice cold and the bottom of this sandwich was wet from condensation from most likely sitting under warmers , my wife had the fried fish " Generous portion as the menu said. she had (4) chicken nugget sized frozen fish clumps she was wondering if it was a JOKE that we planned ahead , and the 3rd sandwich looked great it was a grilled chicken sandwich with melted cheese on it but when they went to cut it the cheese was already cold and hard and the Chicken was cold We requested for the manager to come out and look at this but he or she never came out just gave the waitress the blessing to take it off the Bill , Thats not what we wanted This is a horrible place to eat and the out of the bottle Sangria stinks also We will not recommend or go back

Bar food is okay, just keep the expectations low. The real reason to come here is for the great views of the water and drinks in the summer. Never been in town for live music nights during the week, but could be fun.

I'm not one too bitch too often when I get a bad meal or service, but the last couple of times my family and I have gone to the Snuggery have left me wondering if I should find a new place to take my family for a meal. A couple of weeks ago we went on a Saturday during the day, which I know is a busy day for you guys cause of the boaters, but our server got our order all wrong, failed to come up to us to ask for refills and spend most of the time taking care of her friends, which arrived after us. I could tell she was friends with the other table cause she spent more time sitting with them then servicing her tables and correcting our order. I understand that sometimes mistakes happen. Yesterday, we again went to Snuggery for dinner to celebrate my birthday, and again it was busy, but the quality of food and service was horrible. We love going to Snuggery cause my son loves watching the boats and loves your chicken strips with fries. We order a pretty simple meal, and again, I know you guys were busy, but from my friend's and mine restaurant experience, we could tell our food was sitting under the heating lamps for way too long, our server forgot to mention that our salad with chicken needed BBQ sauce, our 2 dinner with fries came with fries that were cold, hard, and over salted, when we could tell the table that got their right after us got, freshly made fries. The server was nice enough to bring us a basket of fresh fries. The wings that I ordered were supposed to be hot, which they were, but they were very very dry, so dry that the hot sauce had dried into the wings!! We ate the food cause we were too hungry to wait to have them remade and just wanted to leave. I have to tell you that I'm very disappointed, and hope things chance. After our $80 bill plus a $20 tip, yes, we still tipped well over 20% cause all of us in our table have or work for tips and own a restaurant, we went home and cooked some frozen pizzas!! Again, I really hope service gets better, we've been going to your place since it was Snug Harbor and we ALWAYS celebrate special occasions there, and in the past we've gotten great service.

1st time there, during a bears game, the crowd was cool, plenty of tv's, but what really stood out was the food. Very, very good food, big portions, probably now my favorite place to eat while out boating. I would most definitely recommend this place to anybody, especially if your coming in on a boat. Priced well, nice staff, nothing negative to say at all.

Food was pretty good, waitress was awesome, but the hostess and then the manager made the whole experience awful. This restaurant might want to think about hiring qualified people to work for them, especially in management. I am thinking that customer service and knowing how to actually manage a restaurant should be on the top of the list for hiring a manager. But what do I know? I am just a customer.

Waited over 1hour and 45 mins for food. will never be back. waitresses were crying. manager did not come over. did not do anything for us. get your stuff together snug.

Every time I go here I'm disappointed. The service is absolutely horrible. From the moment u arrive, the hostesses do not acknowledge u with a smile, or even bother to make u feel welcome. They will ask how many in the party and that's it. The outdoor area is crowded, but being on the water is pretty. The waitress came to our table 25 minutes after we were seated!!! It took another 15 minutes to get drinks delivered and did not return to take our order for another 30 minutes. We were starving! When the food came out, the pear salad looked like the pears were rotten. As a waitress, I wouldn't serve food that looked like that. The food was delivered by someone else and our waitress didn't return to refill our drinks or check on us for another 20 minutes. My husband and I have officially given up on this place. I blame it squarely on management. Train your employees! Define customer service. Expect tables are acknowledged within 5 minutes of seating. Hire people who appreciate their jobs and it shows on their faces. We will not be back.

Perfect location but really slow service. Wait staff friendly but pacing of drinks and dinner was way too slow. We were not impressed by the meals. Ribs were good but fries tasted like they were not freshly made. Not sure about this place....location is perfect but the rest is lacking.

Love the fact that it's on the water. Sitting outside during the summer is a nice perk. But, I have to say, the service is not the greatest. There have been more times than not where our waitress was extremely rude. And, not usually the quickest. Food on the other hand, great. Very nice establishment.

Been to the Snug for a couple of times... mainly for drinking and its usually just OK, nothing to rave about, nothing is super expensive, etc. However, finally came here for a girls lunch this past weekend and was glad to finally have somewhat of an opinion of this place. We get there and its PACKED -- now mind you, I have seen the very bad reviews on Yelp and was surprised that it was so packed. I guess it was a beautiful day and they offer seating right on the river... anywho, we opt to sit inside due to my friends pregnancy. Waitress is a peach, not pushy to get us out, and didn't bother us every 10 minutes. She was nice enough to let me know that my Mahi Mahi sandwich might not be avail since its popular during the summer and left me with a menu in case.. and then she commented on my mom's flat-bread sandwich and that its her fave. So my Mahi is avail and I'm super stoked. Once we get our food, they forgot to leave off my friends Jalapenos, my other friend gets the appetizer and not the dinner portion, and my kickin' coleslaw is really not that kickin. It definitely needed more salt and pepper and lacked any sort of heat and sauce. Though, I did enjoy how big the portion was and that I didn't have to get fries. My friend wasn't too bothered about the Jalapenos, but we commented that it was the appetizer portion and she asked if my friend wanted the dinner, and she simply declined (I think she was just being way too nice). Bill was average--nobody drank and it was around $40. I was really surprised my mahi mahi was only $9.99--I would've spent more for it anywhere else. So as for the drinks and food, everything is just OK -- still nothing to really rave about. Would I come back? Possibly..

Cold food-sitting under a lamp over 5mins for sure Tasted great but very cold Awful service- seen server once every 15-20 mins Short staffed- 2-3 servers on a Saturday night Beer served in plastic warm mugs which is awful. I cannot stress enough how much warm plastic mugs make beer taste AWEFUL The server was very nice and punctual she was oversat and could not handle it. The food took over 30 mins for my order and came out cold mac n cheese with chicken. I had orderd 30 mins after i had sat and also had to order from the manager after waiting 10 mins to get ahold of my server. Ordered from manager numerous times. I gave this three stars because of the ambience lots of tvs and people around good place to watch a game. I have also had okay experiences there during the summer. Food always came out lukewarm to borderline cold and burgers are never made to right temp. Also special on Saturday night is a 5$ jameson shot. Anywhere in mchenry you will get a 5$ shot of almost anything at regular price. Which actually takes away the "Special" part. Sexism is rampant to which no server or bartender was male ever. Been there 5-6 times and they definitely hire servers or bartenders based on gender/attractiveness. Not complaining but ladies you don't want your boyfriend frequenting this establishment. I could not express my feelings because they were so understaffed it would have been pointless. I felt bad for the girls they were obviously overworked and understaffed. Hope this review gives some insight to corporate. -Concerned customer

I have been a Snuggery fan since the early eighties. That said when the Snuggery was relaunched in McHenry I was excited, but after eating there I was not impressed. They had brought back some old menu item's like the beefeater but it just wasn't as good as the original. Fast forward to today, new menu, great new sandwiches! I had Jessica's chicken, avocado & bacon. It was fantastic! Service was outstanding and it was busy! We will be back!

Jamaican Grilled Mahi Sandwich Dusted in Jamaican spices, grilled and dusted with our special Captain Morgan's Spiced Rum Sauce. Served on a bun with pineapple-mango relish. $9.99 I ordered this bad-boy for lunch... And yes, it was definitely as good as it looks. Adding the Sweet Potato Fries just happened to top everything off! The Snuggery as a whole is a nice joint. However, you're best suited to get there for lunch or dinner on a weekend during the summer months. If you're not there for the food, the atmosphere of beer and boats would be sure to please your senses!

  • Tim D.

7 open tables outside and took 30-40minutes to be sat after our hostess said 10-15 min. If you need more waiters/waitresses, HIRE THEM. Don't make your patrons wait when there are tables that need to be filled. NOT COOL. That being said, our waitress was nice and attentive. Pulled pork was decent. Probably wouldn't go back.

Service a little slow but the view made it seem quick. My blackened chicken sandwich was really good and the coleslaw the best I've ever had (no mayo).

Horrible service! Came there on a Saturday night, the place was empty and yet it took a long time to get out order. All four of us had beers and they were not cold at all. But good food with a great view.

Worst service ever! Stopped for a drink with friends and you have to wait 20 minutes for a drink when the bar wasn't busy! Bartender was rude! Just cause your good looking dose not make you a good bartender! Finally had to ask the manager for service! Will never stop there again!!! I would like to give you no ratings! But have to rate at least one star for this to post!

Versatile menu for being a pub. Don't order the nachos, they use liquid cheese... yuck. Female waitstaff need to put some clothes on!

To start with, 45 minute wait when they have 7 open table to eat outside. b***** young staff at the time of giving name for a table. Rude bartender when buying a drink - no tip. Think we will go somewhere else instead.

I thought it was just regular bar food. Nothin spectacular. I had the bruschetta chicken sandwich and it was good, the fries were way too salty for my taste though. The service was just okay but the view was phenomenal. We sat outside overlooking the lake, and that's what would keep me coming back!

    (3)
  • Dana L.

Service was kind of slow, but our waitress was super nice! I got the blackened chicken flatbread and asked for it without ranch, but they still put ranch on it. I didn't say anything because it wasn't BAD, just a little spicy for me. I love that it's on the lake and the outside bar is nice, too. It's not too bad of a place!

Everything was pretty great. We were seated fast and the server took our order quickly. We ordered the Nachos, Onion Rings, Loaded Fries, Mozzarella stick kids meal and 2 Bloody Mary's. The food was better than expected and we would definitely go back. We loved how the Bloody Mary's came with a little side of beer too;)

GREAT location and GREAT FOOD! Was there last night and enjoyed the Firecracker Shrlmp with a side of their coleslaw which is addicting. No mayo and a touch of jalapeno. Sitting right by the river, beautiful sunset, great food and service. What could be better!

i live right down the street from this place so i have been going here for awhile when it was snug harbor when it was mookies back in the day i love the outside patio it is awesome in the summer food i am kinda disappointed with its either a burger or burger or chicken service is horrible every time i come here dont get me wrong i know there buzy but when you wait 15 mins to get menus 10 to get your drinks and then another 20 to get your food it tends to be outrageous fri-sat at the bar is packed with drunk kids and adults screaming in your face bumping into you music is so so i tend to go back every once in awhile just cause its so close but i prefer to go other places before this but its worth it for the patio on a nice summer day

We have been here a couple times before and have always been happy with food and love the outdoor seating. Not GREAT food but typical bar food and love the riverfront. Today we went and witnessed a DISASTER. Not sure what happened but took at least 10 minutes to get a waitress to us and while she got our drinks we started to hear grumblings around us about ridiculous waits for food. The waitress warned us the kitchen was really slammed and when I mentioned I had just heard someone say 1 1/2 hours she said not that long, So we ordered and waited an hour for a chicken sandwich and meatloaf. They started basically turning people away by telling them it was a minimum of 90 minutes to get food. Heard a couple waitresses (including ours) say that the kitchen is just way too small for the venue and they have been complaining for quite a while. Our waitress did say she had never seen it this bad. So not saying we won't go back, but we won't go on a Sunday during football season that is still warm enough for boating and bikers.... a bad combination for their capabilities.

STAY AWAY AT ALL COSTS. my family and I had a birthday celebration this past weekend there on Sunday. By Tuesday morning we were all throwing up from food poisoning. We contacted the snug, they didn't do anything about it. We contacted the health department, turns out we weren't the only people who filed a claim. Another party of 7 got extremely sick also. They are now being completely investigated and it turns out the worked became very ill also. If you want food poisoning and service that is lesser of a chuckie cheese, then this is the place for you! Otherwise, STAY AWAY. -josh

Was in Wonder Lake visiting family and wanted to get lunch at a place that served food outside. The Snuggery was recommended and it was awesome. Lauren was our server and she hooked us up with a great table near the water. She was quick and efficient. And our food (the pulled pork with spicy coleslaw and bacon cheeseburger) was really good. We recommend it for lunch anytime.

The Snuggery is what it is, a bar on the Fox River. With that in mind, I think it deserves a better review than what others have given it. I went here for lunch with my mom and sister and had a great time sitting out on the water and partaking in some mid-day cocktails. When the weather is nice, I really think this is one of the best outdoor spots in the area. I enjoyed a couple of Corona-Ritas that were fantabulous and perfect for the occasion. The margarita didn't have that "pre-made, straight from a bottle" taste. As the Corona seeped into the margarita, it gave it carbonation and made it that much better. Service was good. Our waitress was conversational with us and never neglected us even though it was pretty busy outside. We ordered the Firecracker Shrimp as an appetizer. The shrimp was good but not enough of it. The dish was disproportionate when it came to the shimp to salad ratio. Also, I didn't taste much of the citrus vinaigrette on the lettuce. For the main portion of the meal, my sister and I got the classic burger but in a wrap instead of on a bun. It was really delicious. The wrap helped take down the calorie count but also put more focus on the quality meat of the burger. They were cooked to our liking and had a special sauce on the inside that reminded me of a Big Mac sauce. I would order it again. My mom had the Cobb Salad which she enjoyed very much. Not overly dressed and the ingredients were fresh. Snuggery is a great place to enjoy some drinks, nibble on some food and laugh with great company on a warm, sunny, summer day. I would definitely recommend it for those reasons.

Let's start from the top, I've been here once the other day for a couple beers and an appetizer around 2 p.m. It was my first time there and walking up I wasn't exactly sure where to go because I saw no hostess outside so I proceeded to walk in before a girl that came running from the front stopped me who turned out to he the hostess directed us to a table. It was a perfect day so we got to sit right by the water which wad nice. I searched Yelp for a place to eat in Mchenry and this popped up so I gave it a go. Pretty simple, my friend and I both ordered a beer that took too long to get to the table because by the time it got there it wasn't as cold as it should be. The food I got was perfect however. I ordered the sliders (2) and they came with fries which turned out to be the perfect size meal. While the food was good, the staff needs some help. Our waitress was friendly but she looked like she was helping just about every table outside. I would come back because I enjoyed the food and the atmosphere but I would hope the staff is up to par.

I've been here several times and have never had a bad experience. The atmosphere is pleasant and the food is average. It tends to get pretty loud at night, especially during the weekends but what you would expect for a sports bar. During the summer sitting outside close to the river is a great experience, especially at night with the decorative lights.

Oh Snuggery, I've given you three tries now and I think you've finally scared me off for good. My third visit was probably worse than the first two. We went on UFC night to watch the fights and got seated fairly quick for such a busy night. Fine- all is well. We were off to the right side of the room when you walk in and UFC was playing on the TVs near us so we proceed to watch and order some drinks. After the first or 2nd fight, during a commercial break- we notice that station had been changed on the TVs near us to Iron Man. Umm....ok. So we wait the usual 25 minutes for our waitress to finally come back to the table and ask her to change it back. She says she will. 10 minutes later- nothing. We ask ANOTHER waitress we find nearby..she says she'll work on it. And nothing...a fight and half goes by....still not changed back. We ask our waitress AGAIN when she finally comes around- she complains that the manager is the only one that can change it and she'll bother him about it again.... Still waiting 10-15 minutes later...someone from our party angrily goes up to the hostesses at the DOOR and tell them to change the stupid channel back already and they pull out a remote and change it in 2 seconds....REALLY??????? One thing that has been consistent with this place is the stupidity of the waitresses. They're overworked, there isn't enough of them, and they don't really care about the service they give you. The food that we did order was good, but the 30-40 minute wait in between ordering more drinks or food was annoying. I didn't like this place because of my last two visits- but I went because other people wanted to. I decided to keep my opinions of it to myself to see what they would think of it and smirked to myself when one person in my group said halfway through the night, "This place sucks." We were so annoyed by our missing waitress who seemed to be helping everyone but us the entire night that one person in our party wanted to dine n ditch just to stick it to them. Obviously we didn't- but they would've deserved it. I grabbed my own napkins from the waitress counter after ordering a burger towards the end of the night because I didn't feel like waiting the extra 25 minutes for our waitress to zoom by and then wait an ADDITIONAL 10 minutes while she got the stuff that should've come with a plate of food. Halfway through the night- we smelled REALLY STRONG burning popcorn smell. We asked our waitress why it smelled like that- she said they have a popcorn maker and the other waitresses were burning the popcorn because they didn't know how to use it and she was mad about it and refused to make any more. We originally brought it up because we saw that everyone had complimentary bowls of popcorn at their tables and it would've been NICE to have this as well so we didn't have to order so many pricey appetizers to munch on throughout the night. But ya know, I guess since our waitress was ANNOYED by the machine- we wouldn't want to bother her or anything... GOD I HATE THIS PLACE. Beware, your patience will be tested.

Disappointed big time today. Wings came out not sauced, beer nuggets were doughy, and celery was slimy. Not sure what was going on, but I won't be going back for a while.

I was impressed by the food and staff when my husband and I went there for the first time today. Our waitress stopped by our table just the right amount of times. Food was good, could have gotten more fries with my burger but what place isn't like that. The hubby got a steak and it is the first one he has not had to send back to get it cooked right. Which was refreshing for me because then he wasn't in a pissy mood. We ate outside and it was nice, could see the water and boats going by. Not as many flies or bees around as I would have thought. I did see one person have her dog on her lap, I figured they most have came on their boat. But really that don't bother me because if I could bring my dog places I would. The only thing I didn't like was the hostesses were just dressed in regular clothes nothing to make them stand out from the customers. All in all we will be back enjoyed it a lot.

Took my mom out one summer afternoon & we really enjoyed the patio by the water & live music The drinks I ordered were delicious (fishbowl with voodoo juice) The food we ordered was so good We sat for at least 2-3 hours & we were never harassed to leave so they could have a free table so that was really awesome Can't wait to go back

An interesting mix of the diverse cultures of Wonder Lake, McHenry and Lakemoor all under the same roof. Go there on a Friday at midnight, do some people watching, and you're prepared to do a Masters thesis on why society is going down the tubes. It's open late so it's got that going for it. Pros: open late Cons: excessive douchebaggery - sausage fest (old people "urban dictionary" that if you don't understand) - strictly enforced dress code for guys: affliction t shirts that are way too tight

I go to the Snuggery every Sunday for the parmesan crusted zucchini. The place has a fun atmosphere with TVs all over so you can watch your favorite sporting event. During the warmer months the outdoor patio along the river is a lot of fun. I love watching the boaters. Really good service and food.

I thought I was at Hooters! Actually I am insulting hooter girls by making that statement. The wait staff here is awful. I would just limit my comments to my waitress who seem to be brain dead. But other waitresses acted just as dense. Their clothing was too tight and too small, no uniforms. Bellies overlapping. If you don't have a completely flat stomach you should wear enough clothing to cover it. I like tasteful tattoos and piercing. But when you where your clothes in a professional environment (yes, working as a waitress is a professional environment) you need to be a little more tasteful. Showing tattoos and lifting your clothing for patrons to show off hidden piercings and tattoos is unprofessional. I had to leave my seat to get items that we're missing when my food arrived. I asked another waitress to help me because my waitress kept disappearing. Her other tables were looking for her to. Finally she came without what I asked for and told me someone else was going to get it. That person walked past without the items and then she brought it to my table..no communication within staff. I am only giving this place 1 star because it is not the cooks fault that the waitress staff is soo horrible. Our burgers were awesome! Best I had in a long time.. Management, give the cooks a raise and fire all the waitstaff, start over and assign uniforms or at least a dress code.

TERRIBLE TERRIBLE TERRIBLE! This was my 1st time and LAST time! To the Owner of the Snuggery: You need to fire your whole management team and start all over! The way this place is run and how the staff responds to an issue is horrendous. If I could give this place a negative star I would. The Snuggery could be a gold mine with its location / views, but the staff / management has no clue how to service a table of 8 and resolve issues quickly. A group of 8 (all from Chicago, 1st time here) tied up our boat and was seated in the main dinning area, the outside had a long wait. After being seated right away we had 2 different waitresses taking our drinks, not sure if it was a change of shift, one waitress helping another or if there was some confusion on which waitress was suppose to wait on our table. When the drinks came only half of our table received them and when we asked the waitress about the rest of the drinks she said "she did not bring them?" #1- We would not ask if we had them already #2- why are you not communicating with the other waitress, we are 1 table that would like to be serviced as 1. We ordered a few appetizers, which did take 45 minutes, but when they arrived I have to say they were good! Trying to get our waitress attention to get refills on our cocktails was like pulling teeth, we are here to spend money, instead we sat with empty glasses for not just 5 minutes for 10-15 minutes (revenue that was lost). When it was time to order we had one waitress this time, she took all eight orders and submitted them to the kitchen. When the food comes out they are delivered by 2 different waitresses that have no clue who ordered what, and they are just putting plates anywhere on the table because they are to hot to hold, instead of them being placed in front of the correct person. Once our table figures out who has what we find out we are missing 2 meals. We confront our main waitress who says "sometimes the kitchen splits up big tables into 2 tickets." #1- What? #2- Again we are 1 table of 8 #3- Are you going to check on the 2 plates or just look at us? Waiting Waiting Waiting.... waitress has disappeared for awhile trying to figure out what happened to the 2 burger meals w/fries. The other 6 people are 85% done and guess who shows up with our meals, yes our main waitress. I asked "What happened?" Waitress replies "The kitchen ran out of fries, your burgers had to wait." #1- During this 20 minute wait on the last 2 meals I saw several orders with fries heading outside #2- Fries do not take 20 minutes to cook. Then while eating the waitress comes up and shows us the kitchen ticket and says "see I did put the 2 burgers in." #1- are you now telling me the kitchen forgot to cook the burgers or did they wait for fries?? #2- What is the point of you bringing over the kitchen ticket to prove you did your job and the kitchen did not?? Really?? I could careless who screwed up, I'm not your boss I'm a paying customer! We asked for a manager to see us, was told "very busy." What??? When a manager is asked to be present by a paying customer he/she should come and talk, no excuses. The summary of the story is: #1- SERVICE SUCKS! #2- MANAGEMENT has no clue on how to run this place #3- Staff / Kitchen are a totally disorganized when the place is packed #5- when the bill came no sorry or discount, basically pay up and get out.

I was there tonight with my husband, dad and very good friends. We had the fish fry which was better than I've had at some places, not greasy at all. The cole slaw was okay, it was different not your average cole slaw. The service was awful! Our friends ordered appetizers and the dinner got to the table before the appetizers. The waitress constantly had the "deer caught in the headlights" look on her face, oblivious! The servers had no idea whatsoever where the dinners belonged they were walking around looking for the people who ordered them! It was hysterical. Totally clueless. If you want to go to a place to see cute little girls run around in short shorts then this is definitely your place to go, but it you want a dinner served to you with humans with brains, forget it.

My first visit to the McHenry Snuggery and some parts were OK, some not so much. My first experience is a 1.5 star rating Lets start with the good: This is directly on the fox river so there is a scenic view. Waitresses are dressed somewhat skimpy - almost like a certain wing chain. The outdoor tables have umbrellas so you are in partial shade. Menu seems well balanced between various sandwich to full dinner sized type meals. That is about all I can think of My personal experience today at lunchtime: The waitress seemed to take longer than normal. Basic service was more on the lower spectrum of dissatisfied. Many times the waitress would run off before we had a chance to ask for drinks/extra napkins and stuff like that. I was in a party of 3 others. The fountain pepsi was flat. After it was given to us, she was off before we had a chance to flag her down for a different one. She let us know afterwards that they were having trouble with the pepsi. We got Sprite as a replacement. It was also flat but not as bad as the pepsi was. Sometimes those machines have issues I let it slide. They gave my friend the wrong sandwich (I heard the waitress say she pushed the wrong button) so he was left waiting for his order when the food arrived. The problem I stated earlier about the waitress running off started becoming a huge issue. When I initially ordered my sandwich I also asked for a side of mayonnaise. It was not there when the order arrived and I had to wait another 5 minutes just to find her and flag her down again. Also, she ran off before I could ask for bbq sauce for my pulled pork as it did not come with any. So at this point we have semi poor service and a not so good fountain pop machine. I ordered the pulled pork sandwich and it was SALTY! Not even sweet bbq sauce could cover it up. I could not even eat half. My friends shared with me bits of their meals and mine was the only one that tasted bad. I was simply unlucky. It was cooked correctly, just way oversalted. One friend ordered a 1/2 slab of ribs. His plate consisted of 4 small ribs. He ordered 1/2 slab and got 1/3! When the waitress went to clear up the table, only then were we finally asked if everything was ok. I complained about the salty pork. It took her a little longer than I would have expected but she finally asked if I wanted something else. I said no and that I was done. Some good did come out of this as my pulled pork and my friends fish sandwich that they got wrong was comped. Overall the waitress took a long time getting the little things for us, and did not check back with us regularly. That in itself is not always a problem if things are done correctly. Today, it backfired. The comped sandwiches are the only reason I bumped this to 2 stars. Side note - the view is the best thing this place has going for it. However, being on a river we also got treated to a few extremely load speed boats racing past numerous times at max speed and max noise. Not the fault of the restaurant, but made it annoying when you were ordering or trying to have a conversation. I may give this place another chance, but only if someone else wants to go there.

If you live on - or boat on - the Fox River, you know the chances of quality food at a decent price is a dicey proposition at the establishments that have boat docks. Your choices are typically mediocre food served as you are deafened by the sound of a mediocre band, accompanied by over priced, watered down drinks. The Snuggery is a different experience, for the better. We visited last Friday night, taking our boat up for dinner and a few drinks after work. First - if you boat along the river, let me say, the Snuggery has THE best docks around for mooring your boat for a few hours. Not only are they in excellent condition, but they are plentiful, and on Friday night, they had two "valets" (for lack of a better term) to help you dock and launch when your visit is over. We arrived about 6 PM on a Friday - prime time, and we expected to wait for a table outside, which we did, about 20 minutes, which is acceptable to me at that time of day. There was a small bar outside offering $3 beers of which we partook, and a live band that was NOT too loud or annoying was playing. The place was packed, so when we were seated and placed our order, I expected it to take some time, which it did. But when our food arrived it was attractive and obviously right from the kitchen. I had the fried cod which was, well, fried cod. It was as expected and should be. It came with a side of what appeared to be homemade asian style cole slaw, which looked promising but didn't have a lot of taste. We enjoyed the view of the river, which was, after all, the reason we were there. My husband had the broasted chicken with mashed potatoes and he said the chicken was exceptionally good - crunchy skin, moist, and not greasy in the least. All in all, a decent meal for a slightly higher price than typical bar food, but by far one of the better establishments along the river.

9/15/12- We ate there last night so not sure as to why it's listed as closed...... Everything was great - food very good and casual. The outdoor eating arrangement is the best in town.
