Firewood Menu

Sorry, We are updating this restaurant menu details.

Food was great, service was OK, we had a huge group of about 20 so I don't blame her. All was great until the jukebox got going, very loud and obnoxious, the conversation suddenly ceased and people were ready to go get out of there. To much of a night club feeling in the lounge and it was barely 7pm... fix that and I will make the place a 5 anytime. Also no wine list? Rumor has it the desserts are incredible as well. Something about the Carrot Cake being to die for!

Been here multiple times hoping it gets better...never does...today was the last straw...went here for New Years dinner...got the auce crab legs Buffett and it was awful...same buffet as the ten dollar meal except some overcooked crab legs and some dry chicken...for triple the normal price of a normal meal with the Buffett..seriously tired of trying with this place and won't be going back

Waitress was extremely rude and walked away from our table while I was trying to ask her about a coupon I had. I will not be returning to this restaurant.

I went there for the first time and things were a little hit or miss. Very friendly, attentive server, were greeted and seated right away, and had some excellent spinach and artichoke dip. They had a pretty solid beer list and my drink came with a frosted glass. Bonus points. My wife got a cocktail, and while it was a huge glass, it tasted SUPER weak. Like...could've just been various juices and no booze at all weak. Sad points. The vibe is a little weird...It's decorated very classy/modern which is great...and everything was super clean. They had TVs in the dining area though...not a huge deal but it struck me as sorta odd and clashy with what they're going for. Like they aren't sure if they want to be a classy, modern restaurant or a sports bar. Main course for my wife and I was BBQ chicken pizza. Delicious, but be warned it comes with jalapeno and is very HOT. It IS a bit pricy. And while the pizza was good, there was a sense of "home-made" to it, but not in a good, nostalgic way...more in the "not really restaurant quality or made particularly well for what I paid" kind of way. We'll be giving it another visit or two (mostly cause I have some restaurant.com gift cards and this was the only decent looking place in McHenry to use them at), and I'm excited to try some other items on the menu. But unless I find some new, favorite dish that I can't live without, I'll probably find other places to eat when I want to drop that kind of cash on a dinner.

Came in was greeted by the guy at the bar . Asked if we where there for the bar or for the dining room told him dining. Went in back place was empty no host no servers. We weren't in a hurry so we waited for someone to come out. Finally someone came out of the kitchen. But he was to busy pulling up his shirt to wipe his face to notice us. his hairy belly didn't really make me hungry. Waited thinking maybe he did see us and was sending out a server. My wife yelled hello still nothing. She left annoyed the bartender said have a nice day. As Told him what happened the waitress started coming out from there hiding spots. Gave them two stars because the place looks nice. Only been here one other time because of a groupon thing my mom gave me. The other star is for the bartender Will never go back after reading all the negative reviews. That sound just like my experience. The Owner needs to read these reviews and fix his staff problem.

We won't be going back here. The prices are outrageous for the quality of food. My husband and I ordered the filet and it was so very obviously previously frozen, tasteless, and not tender as a filet should be. The mashed potatoes were cold. The vegetable side was boiled from frozen. The buffet had wilted, old lettuce. Nothing looked fresh. It looked as if everything came out of a bag, jar or can. It certainly tasted that way. People go to restaurants for FRESHLY prepared food. If I wanted reheated food, I'd go to a chain like Applebee's. At the very least, the prices should reflect what you are serving. We would have gladly paid the what we did for better food. This restaurant should be ashamed to list the prices as they do. We also had to ASK for menus after we'd already received our drinks. Perhaps we should have left at that point. Not going back.

Over priced, bland food, drinks were good, atmosphere is nice, service is OK. We had chicken fingers for my son that tasted like fish and the kitchen lost my daughter's pizza. Her food came out when we were ready to leave. :(

This is another case where there seem to be so many negative reviews that just don't match my experience. Met a group of friends (20+) today to watch the Bears game (disappointing result). Most of us had the AUCE Brunch Buffet which I thought was a great value for the cost. Very good spread of breakfast items, made to order omelets, salad bar, and 2 hot soups. Everything that I sampled was tasty and fresh. There was a table with desserts which looked tempting but I was a "good boy" and had fresh fruit instead. A couple of the ladies had cheesecake which they rated "A-OK". Our server was attentive and seemed always right there when someone needed a drink or have an empty plate cleared. I was quite impressed and that's something I don't say lightly. At half time there was free pizza available which I took a couple of small pieces of just to try. The pizza had a thin and flavorful crust and good toppings. I would certainly order their pizza the next time that I am at Firewood. I felt Firewood is a very good place to watch the big game in comfort; there's even a little conversation/couch pit off to the side if you want to stretch out.

I personally enjoyed my first experience here. The decor is very nice both in the lounge and dinning area. Perhaps my only complaint is that I personally didn't care for the TV's in the dinning area. i was surprised on how varied their menu is as it has more than just steak, chicken & fish. Certainly items on the list which will please the kids in the family. The wait staff were on top of their game, friendly, knew the menu and attentive to our various needs. The appetizer was very nice and I liked the salad/soup bar. For the entree my prime rib was outstanding! The homemade bread they have is very good. Nothing like a rare prime rib and soaking up the juices with some good bread. You can bet we will definitely be checking back in here.

Been here twice. Once for drinks on a Friday night and another time for lunch on a Saturday. I was not impressed with really anything on either visit. Drink prices didn't impress me, service was not good at all, and the burger I got was very bland, not taste/flavor to it what-so-ever. Doubt I'll be back for a third visit.

This place is awful, save your time and frustration and go somewhere else. I've been there about 10 times hoping it gets better because it's so close to my house and has such great potential but I'm disappointed every time (but 1 to be fair). The only good experience was when we had the waitress named Bobby in the bar area. Every other time the waitresses clearly don't give a crap about you or if you want another drink. I'm sorry but if we're one of three tables in the bar you should come to see if I want another beer more than once every 45 minutes. I've officially given up on this place and will never go back.

Been here once a while ago so i can't really say much. My first time here it was a packed house for what seemed like Elvis night. It was a good time and was surrounded by interesting people. Had a huge burger which was really good at a decent price. Bar tender was quick, on point and friendly. Would I go back? Probably. Didn't realize they had a dining area but maybe I'll check that out next time. Hopefully these other reviews about the terrible food and poor service is not so true.

I hate to do it... but I have to give this place 2 stars. I'll explain... We came here on a Saturday night and the place was not crowded, not a great sign but not a terrible thing. We glanced at the salad bar and I knew my husband would go that route, I decided to to the same. They had romaine and the standard iceberg mix with carrots and red cabbage, both had about 1/2 of a cup remaining in the entire bowl. I asked them to replenish the salad, which they probably did but I never went back to look. The 2 soups they had available both that the film on top from being exposed to air too long without being stirred (or taken from). That was off-putting. I ordered the Greek Chicken which was good. I would order that again. It came with feta on top of a 1/4 chicken and some roasted potatoes and steamed veggies. My friend got the Thai lettuce wraps, which she said she liked. She may have just been being nice because the mixture was pretty wet looking... Plus side, decent prices and a big beer selection.

Just went for the St. Patty buffet. Wasn't my first choice....Port of Blarney was packed so we went to Firewood. Even at 6:30 the food was typically mushy, lettuce limp and brown...etc...etc. It's what you get with a buffet anywhere. BUT.....the MANAGER on staff that night was the worst I've ever seen!!!! We placed our drink order at the table and then two of us decided to go to the bar for a st. patty shot. We waited and waited for someone to even acknowledge us. There were maybe 10 people total around the bar. And the restaurant was practically empty. During this long wait we watched this greasy hair with dirty green sweater guy make our actual table drink order. My daughter had ordered a rail vodka and water tall. He made it in a short glass but the waitress set it back and said it needed to be tall. He literally spilled the drink across the bar floor, got a tall glass, sloppily poured the drink into the "tall" glass and it literally filled the entire glass except 1/2 inch which he then squirted one second's worth of water. After he finished our table of 5 drinks he looked at us like, "What do you want?" We said, "two lemon drops please". He turned and looked for another bartender and passed our order off. She was in the middle of something else and said it would be a bit. He went back to just standing there. When we got our bill and saw that this vodka water tall cost $6.75 and a regular vodka water is $5.00 I was shocked. I told the waitress about the fact we watched this guy pour the regular drink into a tall glass and barely added a drop of water to fill the glass and he was also RUDE. She felt bad....and said she'd inquire if a credit could be offered. She came back and told us the guy behind the bar who did all this was the MANAGER! And that he would only credit back $1.75. Well isn't that a slap in the face, huh? And you wonder why the place was pretty empty on St. Patty's. Who ever that manager was needs to find a new career. I live close by but because of this idiot manager I will not ever be back. I've been going to firewood since it opened and each time hope for the best but your food is getting worst and worst and worst.

My husband and I went to Firewood on 120 in McHenry. SLOW and rude front of house - they stood at the stand talking and we stood in front of them for a few minutes before they decided to acknowledge us. Salad bar "ok", but when my husband went to get soup, he had to go through about 6 bowls to find a clean one. The (1/2) bread loaf we get was doughy and under-cooked. Then we heard the people behind us complaining to the waiter that they didn't like their dinner. ut-oh...I got a 10 oz sirloin (MR) and husband got the pork chop. My steak was so rare it was nearly blue and husband's chop? RAW with some grill marks. disgusting. Did they care? not really - though we were comped. What a complete and utter disappointment.

I've seen many mixed reviews on firewood... Great food portions, okay service, affordable prices, all in all I would go back. Definitely not a place to bring a date if your trying to impress someone, but if you want to eat some pretty good food at a price that won't burn a whole In your pocket... This is your place.

This place was horrible in every way. Just stay away. McDonalds would be better. We met my husbands father here for Father's Day. It was a mid way point for us to meet and from the outside it looks like a nice place. That is where it ends. We walk in through the bar area - which is their front door (?) - and make our way to the dining area. Our first hint should have been that for Father's Day and a brunch and there were only 3 tables occupied that there was a problem. The host started the rude service with basically insulting us that we couldn't afford their $21.95/per person charge. Asking us twice if we could pay that!? WHAT!?!? It is not like we came in looking homeless! Geez. The waitress was another treat of being rude. Made it very clear that she was not happy being there and that she has to work a double shift. Everything we asked for was apparently an effort. Even bringing out bread to the table we heard all about how she had to make it herself (really?) and that 'this is a brunch - she shouldn't have to go get bread'. Even when she brought out the bread she complained 'how hot is was' and that 'her fingers are still burning' - WHAT?!?! The food was horrible, too! It is a very small all you can eat buffet. The only decent part was a very nice young man that was making made-to-order omelets. That was the only decent thing there. Everything else was obviously sitting there for ages and was cold. The Prime Rib - cold and the fattest piece if meat I have ever seen. The eggs benedict - the English muffin was soggy mush The hash browns - initially burnt, but by the time we had them - it was mush bacon - burnt rubber The salad bar portion was decent - not a huge mix of toppings, but a decent variety. The desserts - still frozen mini pastries, probably courtesy of Costco Mash Potatoes - decent Mostacolli in red sauce- shocker - mushy noodles, yuck! Swedish Meatballs and Egg Noodles - eehh...not horrible, but too much gravy Crab legs - I didn't even try. Aside from being able to smell the fish smell from a table away (gross!) they were green and brown tinged. Sorry, not in the market for food poisoning. Overall, avoid. It looks pretty, but inside it is just a hot mess or rude people and yucky food.

Browsing around for a little friday nite fish fry and read about their fish dinner. Ad hooked me on the price, until it was explained in detail. Went for the buffet. Fish was ok. Wife complained of the worst tasting mac and cheees she ever had, then went for the mostaccioli, which disappointed her further. Both agreed the chicken was good. The tuna pasta salad was watery and flavorless. Cole slaw was bitter. Waitress never came by for refills, except when presenting the check. No reason to waste my time or money on this establishment again.

My (now) boyfriend and I went here on our second date, because he had heard great things about it and had had a favorable experience in the bar area. My great aunt also sung her praises about it, so it seemed like a safe choice. We arrived around 8pm on a Friday night, and waited for nearly 10 minutes in front of the register/hostess area. We were passed several times by staff, yet not acknowledged. My date (boyfriend) finally flagged down a server, who assured us the hostess was probably busy and would be right with us. Several more minutes passed and no one came. The same server finally came back over, asked if we had been helped yet (nope), and then went to find the hostess. She came and seated us... due to the long delay we thought we'd find the dining area busy, but there were literally two or three other tables occupied. We promptly ordered drinks and began to look over the menu. Our beers arrived, and we each ordered a pasta dish: he ordered a chicken fettuccine and I the spaghetti and meatballs ($11). Our orders arrived a while later, and it was absolutely the worst food I've ever had in MY LIFE! My spaghetti was cold, there were probably 3 dollops of a Ragu-type marinara sauce on it, and the meatballs were also cold and were the consistency of wet cat food (the spongy loaf variety). Seriously. I even had my date (boyfriend) try it. His wasn't much better. We could barely eat any of it. It was kind of insulting that they would charge more than a few bucks for what I could have made (better) at home with a jar of Ragu and a box of generic Jewel pasta. Thankfully the beer kept flowing and I was in such good company that it was COMICAL how awful the food was. (I ended up bringing 90% of my dinner home, and tried to give it to my parrot... she wouldn't touch the meatballs either.) So, I guess I can see how my geriatric 87 year-old great aunt could like the food here; it's flavorless, and you probably don't even need your falsies to chew the food.

Ah, Firewood, Firewood. You come to McHenry and flash elegance but you don't deliver. For the dining area: The service sucks in every direction and the food MAY be mediocre. It's been flip-flop. What turned me off the most is the service. To wait 20 minutes before someone comes to your table is bad. Additionally, to wait 20 minutes more for a re-fill is bad, especially if it's alcohol. Now, there are some good things. The menu offers some good things like Ahi Tuna (appetizer). I would suggest that you would try it; it's actually pretty good, and it feeds 2-3. Some of the special are good, too. The experience is ruined by the service, however. We went there 5 times, and it sucked. Additionally, many of the food items do not come as advertised. It seems that we were ordering from Gordon Ramsey's and getting McDonald's at times. Owner, please clean up your business. Otherwise, you will be outta' business, sir.

Pizza is greasy and bland. Domino's Pizza makes a better pizza. They can't cook a steak. I ordered a medium and got it served up well done. It wasn't worth sending back. The Salmon is good but sides served with it were not. The consistent 2 star reviews are quite accurate and generous. Draft beer is the best thing this place has going. I'd avoid this one.

This is really disappointing. In 2009, my husband and I had our wedding party at Firewood and had rented out the party room and had a special buffet and it was GREAT! we visited firewood a few times after that and thought it was pretty good for lunch or dinner as well. We hadn't been back in about a year or so and wow wtf happened?! We decided to go there the other night for my husband's birthday to celebrate the special event. When we arrived, the hostess could not be wearing any shorter or tighter of a dress and was very snobby. She sat us at a booth where the seats were all torn up. Our server was a nice guy - that was the only mediocre thing about the night. The menus were on just a double sided large piece of paper and had food stains all over them. The waiter came over to us to ask for what drinks we wanted and I asked if they had any juice for my son in which the waiter stated they did not...I'm confused don't they have a full service bar? Most places with a bar carry all types of juices, right? but I could be wrong. Our drinks came in cheap red cups and I ordered a water with lemon and had to get my son a water as well since there was no juice and the water literally tasted funky. I was trying to look for a grilled chicken sandwich on the menu in which they didn't have which to me is weird because almost everywhere i've ever been has at least a grilled chicken sandwich. Most menu items did not sound appealing to me so I decided on the chicken finger meal which came on what they had listed at buttered garlic toast of some sort topped with melted cheese and bacon...sounded strange but hey i went with it. Hubby ordered fish fry. For our son we said he would just share with us in which the waiter told us oh just go up to the salad bar and get whatever you want for him. I thought that was a kind gesture but upon going up to the salad bar my stomach started churning. The food looked like it had been sitting there for weeks and nothing was filled either. Everything looked gross. This was WAYYY different from 2009 when I LOVED the buffet. I got my son some mac and cheese and went back to the table. My husband tried the mac and cheese and literally spit it right out. He said it was extremely cold & the worst tasting mac and cheese he had ever experienced in his life. My son tried one bite and didn't want any more. He hated it and that's saying a lot if a toddler hates mac and cheese. Our food didn't come out til an HOUR after we were seated and I was disgusted. My hubby's fish fry came out on literally a fish plate. The presentation was literally a fish plate with a soggy piece of lettuce for the bedding in which they placed the VERY greasy crappy looking fried fish and fries. My "sandwich" looked AWFUL. Again they put a piece of soggy lettuce under my food for presentation??? The chicken was very dark and looked like it was in the deep fryer way too long, the bread was huge and had a little bit of shredded cheese thrown on top and melted and the bacon looked completely inedible. I tried one bite of the chicken and couldn't handle it. I went up to the front counter since our waiter was nowhere to be found and told the hostess that we were not at all happy with our food and would pay for my husband's drink and our waiters tip but that was it. She was like ooo you didn't like the food hold on and went to the kitchen to apparently retrieve our waiter. Our waiter came out and said o u don't like the food can i get something else for you i said um no thank you but the food here is inedible and i don't want to get sick thanks. He came back with the bill and they credited us for the food but of course charged for the drink and kept the sales tax on there for the entire meal..at that point i was just sick of being in there and wanted to get out so I went up to the hostess desk and she was nowhere to be found. There was just an apparent waitress i'm guessing standing up there texting on her phone. She didn't acknowledge me so I said HELLO excuse me I would like to pay...so she kinda mumbled something and went in the back to get the hostess. I wasn't happy about being charged the full sales tax for the meal but at this point whatever - just get me the hell out! She gave me my receipt to sign in which i left the waiter a small tip and gave her the receipt back. The hostess didn't say anything to me or look at me and grabbed cash out of the drawer for the amount of my tip and turned her back on me and walked into the kitchen with it. She didn't say so much as ok thanks that's all i need from you or do you want a copy of your receipt - she just walked away! At this point I am furious and highly disappointed by this restaurant. I know it's one of the very very few restaurants in McHenry so I guess that's why people go there & probably only the bar keeps that place in business. I sincerely hope that the restaurant closes soon before they end up killing some1 with their food!

Unfortunately there aren't many choices for quality dining in McHenry and Firewood isn't one of them. I have been there three times and each time I had a less than quality experience. The kids macaroni and cheese for example was about $6 for a plate of half a box of Kraft macaroni and cheese. No sides, no drink. On top of that, there was no kids menu so there was no way of knowing what you were getting for how much. The mashed potatoes were cold and tasteless. The lettuce on my chicken Caesar wrap was warm and wilted. Customer service was poor and issues with our bill were difficult to resolve. I will say that the atmosphere is nice but that's about it. I don't like to give a poor review but I really can't recommend this to anyone! I hope that they can use these reviews to better their restaurant! McHenry could use a nice place to eat with a variety of foods (other than Italian food!).

Have been going here for the last few years when in the area, very comfortable decor in the dining room and bar area, not sure why there are many "haters" in yelpville I have not had the same experience... food has been delicious, service prompt and friendly, I will agree, front of the house needs to "step up" and be better at greeting guests and make them feel welcome... the Seafood Platter is AMAZING... some of the best Walleye and Shrimp I have had in a long time... also enjoy the soup/salad bar... note to chef... swap your bain-marie (soup pot) when you are serving cream based soups so they don't appear "crusted over"... the soups taste great!

This was our second time there. On our first trip which was a couple of years go, it was just average. So we went a second time on a Groupon deal. My wife and I ordered a couple of sandwiches and salad bars(which is very average). We were suggested by the waiter not to order the hot bar as it was old and nasty. Food was OK, or so we thought. We both took half of our meals home. The next morning was 3 trips to the bathroom with upset stomach for me. I really thought nothing of it...until 2 days later that I ate my leftovers and had the same issue the following morning. It WAS the FOOD! NEVER going back.....not even on someone else's dime. One of the red walls in a dining area has visible water damage that no one has done anything about.

I have been to Firewood several times, but my latest experience motivated me to write a review. I was there with a party of 5 for an early Sunday dinner. The service was great, we never had to ask for drink refills. We ordered the Spinach Artichoke Dip for an appetizer. It comes with pita chips and always tastes amazing. For an entree, I ordered the Parmesan Crusted Tilapia. It came on a bed of angel hair pasta and alfredo sauce. I must say that this is one of the tastiest fish dishes I have ever ate! The fish was cooked perfectly and there was something magical about the combination of flavors. Next time I go, it's going to be hard to order anything else off the menu now that I know how tasty the Tilapia is. I also enjoy the decor and ambiance of the restaurant. The sinks in the bathroom are also very cool. In my opinion, the one area for improvement at Firewood is the salad bar. I've never ordered it because it's never really enticed me. All in all, Firewood is one of our favorite local restaurants.

Don't think we'll return. First the good stuff. The venue is beautiful. Well decorated and a great place to watch sports. My meal came with the soup and salad bar. The vegetable beef soup was outstanding. The salad was average. Now the bad stuff. When you first walk in, it's not clear where you should go. There is no hostess station or anyone to greet you so we just awkwardly stood around for a few minutes and then found a table ourselves. No server came so my husband got drinks from the bar. Still no server so we started looking around for menus. Are they on the bar somewhere? Should we find somebody to ask? We decided to wait it out and drink our drinks. Eventually a server came up and asked if we were being taken care of. We said no and she decided to complain about how a coworker was supposed to take our order but since they didn't, she guessed she old have to do it. From here on out, it just went from bad to worse. Had to ask for everything. Water, then every refill. More drinks then had to ask for our order to be taken. Then for our plates to be taken away. We sat there after we ate with dirty dishes filled with chicken skin and bones for no less than 15 minutes trying to enjoy the rest of our drinks without these plates interfering. Th server wasn't the sharpest tool in the shed, but in her defense, her managers had clearly not staffed properly and didn't even have bus people clearing the tables. My husband said his burger was good, my chicken Marsala was less than average but even so I may have considered returning if the service wasn't so horrendous. Bad management to have such a nice place for people to come and then nothing going on under the roof!

Well my review actually went up after speaking with the new manager. He has been there for 4 weeks and is working a bunch of hours to get the restaurant changed around. So on with the review. When I came in there was no one to seat me. I actually asked on of the waitresses and she kindly sat me. After sitting for 7 minutes that same waitress stopped by and asked if I had been served. I said no and looked down at my stop watch I told her it was not necessary to get me my waitress as I didn't feel she would remember me after she took my drink order. Well this is where things changed and for the better. The waitress whom seated me said if I would stay she would be my waitress and she did a great job. Typically when you are sitting alone, you don't always get the best service. You could see she was working hard servicing many of the tables and my drink glass was only empty for 4 minutes before the busboy asked if he could refill it for me. Upon the return of my waitress, she had in hand my soda with no ice just as I like it. Thank you for taking care of me. As for the food, the Ribeye steak was very good, it should have sat a little longer before it made it to the table as it did bleed out when I cut into it. However, the flavor was great (needed a little seasoning that's all but a great cut of beef), and cooked to the right temperature. As far as the plating is concerned it looked a little thrown together and the veggies were um OK. The bread, was just plain old white bread pretty much no flavor to speak of. I ate the pieces I had spread the butter on, however, it really wasn't worth the calories so I didn't eat any more of it. My biggest issue with the food was the gravy, it was so salty I actually choked in the restaurant. When done with my meal I asked the waitress if the manager was available, and he was, so he came out and joined me for a short talk. I had asked him if he had ever read the Yelp reviews and pointed out they were the worst rated restaurant in McHenry. It was then that he told me he had just take the rains about 4 weeks ago and was working hard to change that review. I offered him a taste of the gravy and bread and he said these are things he will improve on. I told him I would be back in 3 months so I have set my calendar for November 5th and hope I am in town to try it again. I look forward to seeing what he does with the menu. For those concerned about the carpet, the main dining room carpet has been cleaned and after speaking with the manager the crusty drapes are gone as well. I am an asthmatic and have big time allergies and I did not have any issue in the restaurant so looks like things are improving already. Lets see how this place improves over the next several months. If you have put in a bad review I encourage you to try it out again and see how things have improved. It looks like the owners have heard the Yelp and have brought in a very competent chef and manager to fix it. I sure hope he succeeds as we really need a nice Steak and Meat restaurant in McHenry. Good luck

Very disappointing for two reasons. My girlfriend took me here for dinner to celebrate a new job. My Fried walleye was cooked properly, but my girlfriends broiled walleye came out cold, slimy and RAW, not just once, folks, but TWO TIMES, after we returned it the first time, while I sat there eating. The other reason I was disappointed was because I used to enjoy coming here, but the salad was not cold, it sat out and was not fresh. The manager, a little wet behind the ears questioned us about our disappointment. Don't question ANYTHING, just let us go, refund or honor our request the FIRST time. Too bad our waiter, Kurt, who was very apologetic had to be called back to work at Firewood.. He was the best part of our experience, sorry Kurt you have to work there. You deserve better! Something is wrong in your kitchen!

Hit or miss. Service is fair at best. Salad bar is decent. Food is ok depends on what you order. Newer classier building, but not very clean. Carpet in dining area is disgusting. It's a shame, it's 10 min from us but don't consider it much.

We went here for the first time and it was terrible. Looks nice from the outside, but as soon as I saw the crane game in the foyer, then the red plastic glasses, and then the salad bar, I was concerned. We waited over an hour for food and my filet was terrible. It was like chewing on rubber. I don't think it was a filet and they pawned off another type of beef to make it look like filet.

I came here for the first time last Friday with the In-Laws-To-Be and the fiance. We sat at the bar and enjoyed a surprisingly delicious dinner. Service was decent, even though the bar was packed. I only ordered diet coke to drink, but the bartender was really great about filling me up even though i wasn't adding to my tab. I ordered the BBQ chicken salad for my meal. Came with garlic bread, and everything about this meal was delicious. This place is not what you expect! I have been to many a fancy sports bar - and the food is nasty crap. Firewood goes above and beyond to create a fun, un-stuffy atmosphere, yet serves superior food with great service!

Dislike. We stopped in for dinner and it was a step below Olive Garden and the like.... Just not good.

I first went here years ago and it was great. I loved the food and I was definitely impressed with the decor considering it was McHenry. I didn't go back for a while but went a couple times recently. The food tastes completely different and not in a good way! I think they changed chefs because the food sucks and it is nothing like I remember. I keep thinking maybe it's what I ordered and go back but each time I am disappointed. Last time, i had their broiled chicken and it was pretty gross, very dry but greasy at the same time.

Not bad for McHenry. Food is ok nothing special. The fireplaces are nice. As for the clientele, well......looks like half of Wondertucky goes here. Kinda redneck for my taste.

Ever had a night where everything can go wrong?? Firewood has and unfortunately it was for our table. We were there on a Friday and there was a sign on the door saying they were having a wine tasting in the lounge. They shouldn't even bother since we ordered four different bottles from their wine list before they had one in stock. Then came the food order. One of us ordered soup (never came). The girls shared an order of fajita combos (chicken, steak or combo on the menu). First thing that came out was a rice bowl. She brought it back and then returned with a taco salad. Nope wrong again. Brought it back and then came back with a sizzling plate of combo fajitas.... Chicken and shrimp which wasn't even on the menu. Sent it back AGAIN!!! Meanwhile our other two dinners are getting cold during this entire ordeal. Finally the under cooked and non-sizzling plate of steak and chicken came out. The food here is ok, but the organization from management to kitchen to service is minor league. I wouldn't go out of my way to avoid Firewood, but I would never suggest going there or go on free will.

Sticky floors, stood at the hostess stand, unacknowledged, for a good 3 minutes and the service sucked. Gave 1 extra star for the good drink specials.

Holy Cow do the McHenrites love this place? Are there seriously no other restaurants in all of McHenry/Lake County? We pulled into the parking lot when my sister-in-law said "Oh...it won't be THAT busy on a Saturday night!" and found the parking lot (and all surroundng parking lots) completely packed and the valets parking cars. My sister-in-law must not have discovered that there is one thing, and ONLY one thing, to do in McHenry County on a Saturday night, GO OUT TO EAT! The front half of the restaurant is a bar filled with McHenrites who got babysitters for the night and are out for a wild night filled with well vodka crans. The back half is every McHenrite family celebrating any possible occasion and dragging frazzled looking grandma along. I hate kids and this place had plenty of them on a Saturday night...buzzkill. The place was so packed and had an hour and a half wait (yes...I did say hour and a half) so we decided to place a to go order and have them deliver it to the in-laws house. The food was decent but forgettable...I would have rather had pizza ordered from Rosati's. The delivery boy was delish though. That's why they got 2 stars. If you want to wait an hour and a half for food here is my suggestion. Get in the car, head down Lake Cook Road and hop on 90 to go into the city. You'll be downtown in an hour and a half and can have your choice of thousands of quality restaurants....all you need to do is call ahead and make a reservation before you leave the sticks. If you don't want to make the drive you can probably find a better meal in Scumburg with less of a wait and at least then you're not stuck out in BFE with nothing to do but go to Halftimes in Johnsburg.

I stopped here on a Saturday night with my son and opted for a table in the lounge since the dining room had a 20 minute wait. Service was just adequate as our waitress seemed very distracted all evening (but stopped by frequently enough). The food was excellent and arrived quickly after placing our order. The kids meals are very pricy ($6 - drink NOT included) which made me glad I hadn't visited with all four of my kids in tow! The food is definitely worth stopping in for, but I'd recommend leaving the kids at home.

My wife and I had dinner on Saturday night Feb 23rd. Every time I drive by it is busy so we decided to try it. We were seated and the waitress took our drink order. We decided what to have, I ordered the Greek Chicken with feta cheese and rice, and my wife just had the salad bar and French onion soup. It took some time to get our drink order which was two glasses of wine. The salad bar was great and it had many selections and I could see just ordering that and you would be full. My wife said that the french onion soup was great. When the waitress brought my Chicken it had a red sauce and avacado's over it. She set down the plate and left. I called her back and said that this was not Greek Chicken which her response was "I am not sure but I will check", I told her that the avacado was not feta cheese. She took back the chicken and I finally received what I had ordered except they substitued french fries for the rice, so the order was still not correct, but I ate it. We did not see our waitress again for the remainder of the meal. When we were done, she came back and asked if we wanted something else to drink. I heard the guy at the next table(same waitress) ask another waitress if they could get their drink order because it had been 15 minutes. I gave the place two stars because the service was bad. The food was good, the salad bar was great.

I feel that Firewood is very over rated on this site. I just tried this for the first time tonight. We had the artichoke spinach dip appetizer that someone else on here receomended....TGIFridays has much better. For dinner I had the Shrimp and scallops and my girl friend had a steak.....very middle of the road quality and over priced. Service was below average. For $60 for 2 I expect good quality food and service.....Firewood definetly can't deliver either.

My last visit to Firewood was on Mothers Day. My MIL wanted to go there so I hesitantly agreed. Things that went wrong -When we were sat the host let us know how happy he was that we were the last reservation for the evening (it was 6:30PM) -They were out of everything (granted it was mothers day, so they must have been busy) -Buffet was not stocked, food looked old and dried up, we asked that it be refreshed 3 times but that never happened. (To be honest no one would have ordered the buffet if it weren't for the fact that they were out of everything!) -Food came out room temp at best. -Buffet food was also COLD!! The pot of soup on the buffet was cold, do you know how long the heat must have been off before an entire pot of soup became cold???? Lettuce was brown and there was no ice under the veggies to keep it cold. CAN YOU SAY BACTERIA FEST? -No one apologized for being out of food or even serving us cold food. -No manager in sight -After comping about 75% of our check, two of the five people at the table never got a meal at all, nor did our server ask if we wanted anything else. She didn't apologize unless you consider "I'll take it off your check" to be an apology. -When a check is comped at all a manager should be at the table in a flash! Things that went right -I would say that they comped our check w/o question, but that was the least they could have done. Honestly I don't have anything positive to say, and I'm really trying hard! So I had these restaurant.com gift certificates and I didn't want to feel tempted to use them, just to use them so I gave them away to other dining customers that night. Goodbye Firewood... you have so much potential! I wish you'd just try! Just a little!

funny I came to bash but can't add to the "spot on" other bashers...this place is terrrible, service is a joke and the food, told the wife I'd rather had gone for hot dogs and fries, guess what I thought of the food..

i recently had a very sub par experience at this establishment, mostly service and food quality related. also the place is new and the carpet where were sitting was very dirty and unkempt. i can't recommend.

If it wasn't for the waiter giving honest personal insight into the selection of food and how it was cooked I would have given this 2 stars. 4 Stars for how it is set up. It could have been a little bigger, but the lounge area is fancy, and the bar is pretty decent size. There are a lot of TV's to watch sports on. The food is 2 Stars, nothing special and a little more expensive. The group I went with saw nothing spectacular, the Steak sandwich looked good. The Buffet looked very unappetizing, maybe on a different night it would have looked ok? I think they change it every night, and that is a good thing. We moved to the bar after eating, and the DJ was aweful. He played very very loud music, and we don't mind loud music but this was extreme. He also only had some music and cut it into 5 second soundbites, maybe thats the rage now but wow. Overall 3 stars, worth a visit to check for yourself.

This is a really nice space in McHenry county, inside and out. I was pleasantly surprised in how classy the place was from the bathrooms to the dining area. There is an outside dining area complete with a fountain that looked pretty nice that was currently enclosed for the cooler months. There is also a great looking bar space with a solid tv representation and a buffet presence, although I didn't really get the details on that. The first impression was that the server was really eager to get our order, asking us as many as 4 times if we were ready. He was polite so I can't really crap on him... yet. The menu was fairly diverse, from pastas ,salads and steaks , to a nice selection of pizzas. We ordered the seared tuna appetiser , which I thought scored a solid good. The seafood pasta Alfredo was very good, complete with shrimp and bay scallops, one of the better seafood pastas I've had.The server ,at some point fell off the face of the Earth , never to be seen again. In his defense there was a Halloween costume party going on at the bar area , so he was probably involved there. All in all, a solid spot to which I would readily return.

Went their twice and was generally disappointed with the food. The salad bar looked miserable. Good service and ambiance was very nice. I think of it as more of a nice place to meet and have a drink.

I did not give Firewood 5-stars because it took about 30 mins to place our order and we had to go to the bar ourselves to refill our drinks. However, on behalf of Firewood, it was Monday and packed with football fans. So, that's understandable. The good part was the great chicken parmesan which was delicious and also the $5.00 pizza special was great. Needless, to say I will defenitely return to this place :).

Worst Sunday brunch ever.took the famly there to try the Sunday buffet and the food it was awful. Everything that was on there was either cold or dried out and just tasted terrible. Besides that the server was never seen again after she served us drinks.I had to get up and look for the manager to get our check so we could leave. We will never go back to this place again.

To bad it's like every other Kyahat restaurant. Very average. Food is so so. Service, sometimes good, sometimes stinks. Firewood location has so much potential. Unfortunately I would never recommend it.
