i have been eating here since the place opened, and ate there recently twice, the food is as wonderful as ever, my mom ,sister wife and i ordered a wide variety of items, there is no menu to speak of so we just told our server what we wanted and as stated in other reviews the service can be a bit slow but the food is well worth the wait we had palomilla, ropa vieja, pollo a la palomilla and yucca and fried maduros.... along with both white rice and beans and moros which is black beans and rice mixed together.... all in all a classic cuban feast all for under 50 dollars incl tip i will keep coming back as i have for decades
After visiting Illinois in December, this place was the perfect ending to my trip. When my boyfriends parents used to live in Chicago after arriving from Cuba, this was one of the places they visited often. The owner, Prado, who is now much older is the sweetest man you will ever meet. His son works right next door and occasionally drops in through out the day to help him. He is also a great, great person! Originally, my boyfriend and I came here because we had heard so many great stories of his parents as teenagers going to grab some dinner after high school. We just felt we needed to check it out for ourselves. First off, the owner has been running the business for more than 40 years. The neighborhood used to be filled with Cuban restaurants, bakeries, and fun night clubs. Now, El Prado, is practically one of the only authentic Cuban Restaurant in that neighborhood. The Mexican population has grown and most of the restaurants that once used to be Cuban are now Mexican taco shops. We came to El Prado twice during our visit. My boyfriend and I sat down for some food and coffee and we all shared some stories with the owner and his son. It was pretty quiet, and only a few customers came in every so often. More for subs, coffee, and the daily special. The owner and his son told us so many stories about the place. How it used to run, how business was back in the day, and how they are still fortunate to have the opportunity to serve to the public. They really, really, really love their business. You can tell. Every time they spoke about it, their faces would light up with joy. It is a clean restaurant, with a lot of space, and a traditional design. The food... smells AMAZING! We enjoyed the daily special which was rice, yucca, and Pork in a yummy yellow sauce. Do not expect a five star meal, this is a family owned Cuban restaurant. The type of food your grandma makes with love, and it is damn GOOD! We fell in love with the place not only because it reminded us of home, but because of the stories we shared and the heart and love they had for their business. We saw some photos on their walls and spoke for about three hours. What an experience! I hope to go back and visit soon and you should too! The owner and his son are so amazing! Give this place an opportunity even if its to listen to some old stories.
This place is a great old fashioned Cuban restaurant. Nothing fancy. You go here for the food plain and simple. The owner prepares Old Fashioned, authentic, home cooked cuban food. The ropa vieja, congri, arroz blanco, frijoles negros and cuban sandwich are what I have tried and they are made with many years of experience and lot's of love. A great pit stop to sit up on the stool at the counter and upgrade from fast food at lunch time or enjoy a nice cup of cafe cubano and read the paper. I will be enjoying many lunches here in the near future.

The best fast food seafood. Quick services and fresh. highly recommended the crab legs.
I first tried Surf's up when they were located on Austin in Chicago. The portions were generous and the food was cooked fresh to order. I have since ordered from Surf's up in Maywood twice and I was not a huge fan of the portions and the food wasn't made fresh to order. Our shrimp were cold and the portions for the price left me unsatisfied. I did not like the hot wings at all, they were extremely salty and cut in a weird way (I am not sure what that was about). The staff is very friendly and the restaurant is clean and they offer free coffee and tea. I will continue to order the grilled shrimp on occasion, but will make sure to ask for fresh and hot shrimp.
My friend and I ordered from Surfs Up in Maywood and we were so disappointed. We waited over an hour for the delivery only to find that the driver went to the wrong address. The food was overpriced, the shrimp were fried too hard and barely warm. The greens were good but the thin slice of cornbread fell apart when I took it out of the bag. Don't even get me started on the pathetic onion rings!!!! I won't call the restaurant to complain bcuz they might offer me more of their garbage for free or at a reduced price which I would absolutely refuse. I could've gotten a better meal on the dollar menu at Mc Donald's.

Went for dinner here again tonight. They have never disappointed me! It's not much to look at and though there are chairs inside, I have never seen anyone dine in. The people there are friendly and the ribs are just incredible! I get mild sauce, and they are just smoky enough and fall off the bone tender. I always mean to try something else, but I get there and order the ribs. There is a vending machine for soda, so I tend to supply pop from teh grocery store heading home. Excellent choice if you are in teh area. They are closed on Sunday!
Horrible Horrible., Please save your time and money. $ 11.00 for a large tip that made me sick, I felt like regurgitating what little I ate. c'mon people
Damn good meat. Excellent rib tips. Ok sauce....will go back!

This is my favorite place for seafood beside Red Lobster. They always have really good, fresh catfish. The shrimp...meh. That's why they lose a star. It's not bad by any means, but I hate biting into a shrimp and hitting that gritty, grey, poo vein. You know what I'm talking about. I've gotten the poo vein a few times. But oh, man. The french fries...THE FRENCH FRIES. They're SO GOOD. They knock any other fried potato out of the water. Do you remember how good Checker's fries were? Forget it. JJs fries rock my socks. Oh man. Excuse me. I have to call and make an order.
Restaurant Review Fried food galore! This past weekend while on call I ended up looking for comfort food to pass the time and ended up going all out with a 10 piece fried wing meal. This was definately a lot of greasy food, but the chicken wings were fried to perfection. The food appears to be made to order so there is a short wait time after ordering. My chicken wings were piping hot that they started to melt the inside of the styrofoam carryout box. The wings themselves were lightly coated with batter without any evidence of residual fat or chicken hairs which are gross. The lemon salt brings out a unique flavor that I cannot describe. For those who like spice, go ahead and dip it in the hot sauce with a little tang from the vinegar and moderate amount of heat from the cayenne peppers. There was also a healthy helping of fries and a small cup of cole slaw to sooth your taste buds. There appears to be a lot more fried food on the menu to try including fried oysters, fish, chicken tenders. The only ? is why don't they fry other parts of the chicken (breast, thigh, etc). Service is quick and overall friendly. The only issue here is with the small parking lot that is hard to get out of during busy times. Pro- hot made to order wings, fried to perfection Con- small parking lot hard to get out of, might be sketchy at night around this area Hidden deal- Sign up online for 10% off your next order. Daily meal deals about 6-7 dollars include main entree, fries, and a drink.
Great ,delicious , Jumbo shrimp best in the area! Very tasty! plus they add mild sauce or hot sauce whatever you prefer... For the kids they have a cool gumball machine and if you wanna sit and eat there you can dine in and watch tv. Delicious, fried up catfish.. I was very satisfied with my experience.

Love that chicken from Pop... Popeyes Brown's KFC Church's Although I like Church's the least and will give KFC 3 stars. Church's get 4 stars cause I don't have to have a coupon or spend $5+ for two pieces of chicken. Plus they actually have dark meat specials.
Some of the best chicken I've ever had with fast and friendly service. Every time I've been there was served chicken so hot and so fresh I could barely hold it while eating.
I dont know why I find myself drawn to Churchs mediocre chicken. I think because it is different. Something about me loves the fact that these places are not found where you find Popeyes or KFC. Something about me loves the fact that you might get shot in anyone of their parking lots... I am a twisted human being. The biscuits are better than any other chicken place. The chicken is not that special nor are any of their sides. Better than KFC, not as good as Popeyes. But more fun.

White Castle

Reviews:
Before I start, I must say that this is the best White Castle I have been to, next to the one on 79th & Stony Island. They would EASILY get 5 stars because their food is alway hot, fresh and delicious! But WHY 4 stars?! Because they are SLOW as you know what! My son and I went in yesterday at 9:40. I had a hair appointment at 10. I was thinking that I could quickly grab something for me and my son to eat so we won't have to wait afterwards to eat. Boy was I ever so WRONG! It was not busy. At all. It was only 2 cars in drive thru and 1 person ahead of me in the lobby. I stood there and watched them literally DRAG THEIR FEET! They were taking their sweet time. It doesn't take long to make 6 chicken rings, a chicken sandwich, a small fry and small sprite! So now it's 10:05, and I'm now late for my hair appointment, and pissed! I asked them what was taking so long, and they says they were waiting on my fries. It doesn't take 25 minutes for fries to cook. When I finally got my order, she didn't even give me my sprite! If their food wasn't so good and fresh, I wouldn't even bother to come back. If you are in a hurry, DON'T come here!
Uhhh it's a White Castle I do t know what you would really expect. But it's just sorta gross in there and absolutely no where to sit
I've never really had a reason to make it to White Castle before, but stopped by after seeing their veggie burger ads. I really like how a lot of fast food restaurants have been incorporating vegetarian options into their menus (hey, veggie eaters need a break, too). I got one veggie burger and their chocolate dipped cheesecake. While very caloric, I'm sure, I enjoyed both--and hope to be back for more! Customer service was average (what you'd expect out of a place that has sliding doors INSIDE of their restaurant establishment).

Beggars Pizza

Reviews:
I visited this location today, placed my order, gave the cashier my name multiple times, waited 30 minutes for thin crust pizza, was given the wrong order, when I questioned the cashier he confirmed that it was the correct order, I left with the order, proceeded to my car, and the cashier runs out and tells me that I TOOK the wrong order, which he'd just handed to me and confirmed that it was mine. So now, I returned the wrong order and wait again for my order, meanwhile the cashier is explaining what just happened to the manager, and I heard the manager say to him "good catch", as if I was running away. Neither of them offered an apology for the mix up, but the manager did offer me a free cookie, which I politely declined. I asked the manager do they deliver to Bellwood and his response was ONLY during the day!???? WOW REALLY!!!!!!!
I like the pizza, but the rest of the menu is horrible! They are slow and overpriced.
So a few of my coworkers have been raving about Beggars and how awesome it is. Not knowing I'm probably the biggest pizza fanatic, having tried or at least attempted to try every variation of cheesy heaven I can get my hands on. On to the fun, we ordered a large cheese, no meats because one of the coworkers is observing lent and cannot eat meat. Not a problem gives me a chance to taste the pizza for what it is without the added toppings or disguises. We work literally two blocks away and the delivery took an hour. Keep in mind this place replaced Little Caesars, now I know they aren't anything to get excited about but they are $5, you kind of get what you pay for. On the other hand Beggars has no dine in and is shoved into a plaza with minimal parking and charged us $22 and $3.50 for delivery. Okay I'm not even mad just yet......the pizza is finally here and I'm ready to smash and I grab a slice and all I taste is rubbery cheese and no sauce. The sauce was there it just wasn't actually there. It was the most bland sauce I've ever eaten. Thank God I work in a restaurant and had to work some magic with some marinara sauce and some salt and pepper. Absolutely no seasoning and the most boring slab of cardboard with some white gooey rubber on it. So pizza was an absolute fail, price was a fail, and the hype just made it worse. My co workers had nothing to say. I can't believe they called this pizza hahahaha. They need to up their game and quality of they even attempt at lasting longer then their predecessor. At least they had the prices, this place ain't got it.....
