This Chipotle is the worst Chipotle I have ever had the displeasure of visiting. The first time I went I gave them the benefit of the doubt since it was indeed a new location. However, after several trips back I have simply determined that this is just a horrible place. The woman working the cash register gave me incorrect change for my order, and when I brought this to her attention they said they would have to count the drawer and that "there were cameras" as if I was lying about her giving me 6 dollars in change from a 20 dollar bill for one burrito bowl. It was ridiculous. Eventually I was forced to demand my 20 dollars back and return the food. I can no longer put up with such terrible service at the expense of eating Chipotle. Perhaps this is why businesses in Matteson cannot last. New management and better trained employees PLEASE.

This is the second time that I have visited this location and the customer service is HORRIBLE!!! On both occasions there was a line outside of the door. How long does it take to assemble already prepared food? I waited nearly an hour in line at this location and when I arrived to the front the worker tells me that they have run out of several items and that there will be another 20 minute wait! Seriously?! I don't understand why they would wait until there is absolutely no more chicken prepared to tell the cook to make more. To make matters worse, the manager is incompetent. She didn't apologize or empathize with our wait. I talked to her about training her employees better on food management and she informs me that "IT'S NOT MY FAULT". She shouldn't be managing anyone. I politely asked for a side of salsa and she slammed the salsa into a container angrily as if I had offended her. Her employees behavior is unacceptable as well. They talk to friends, laugh and joke as if there isn't a line of angry hungry customers waiting to be served. Needless to say, I won't be returning. I WISH I COULD GIVE IT ZERO STARS!!!

I had a perfectly good visit to this Chipotle. I see a lot of one-star reviews here, but I think it is a bit unfair to compare this location to one in downtown Chicago. It was slightly slower than the ones I go to in the Loop, but honestly, I think the issue is more customer-related than employee-related. When I went, it seemed like many of the customers had never been to a Chipotle before, and they were trying to get a handle on the ordering process. This naturally slows things down a bit. When the customer base gets familiar with the system, I think speed will increase. That said, it really didn't take that long to get my meal, and everything was completely up to par by Chipotle standards. I also like the little outdoor seating area! Frankly, I'm just happy to have a Chipotle in the south suburbs, and I hope the arrival of this chain, 5 Guys, and Bar Louie in Matteson signal some kind of redevelopment in the area. It could definitely use a boost.

First time to Chipotle in Matteson. Crew seemed very young and somewhat overwhelmed by a late afternoon (~4 pm) rush. I did not see a manager. They kept running out of pans of food. To their credit, the front line employees were pleasant, worked hard and delivered a tasty product. Some suggestions- Hire more staff to cook. It's hard for the front counter staff to run back and forth to fill in the pans with food and take care of the orders at the front counter. The dining room was not clean. I did not see anyone come out in the 15 minutes or 20 minutes I was there. Having someone assigned to check the dining room is extremely important. Also, don't know if this is possible but the store needs to be bigger and configured differently. I always see lines out of the door. so a bigger place would help. Because I am a south suburban resident and I like to support local businesses, I will give this store another try.

I love love love Chipotle but this location is not that great...

I'm not going to give this the 1 star it deserves because this place just opened on 3/28/12. I'm guessing it's going to take some time for the employees to get their act together and for the store to order better. Anyway, here are the facts from my visit last night: I stopped in at 9:45 PM (they close at 10 PM). There was a line out the door (about 10 people) If this were any other Chipotle I would have been in and out in 5-6 minutes, instead I didn't get my food until 10:10 PM. A total of 25 minutes for food! I think a large part of the wait was that everyone was getting a burrito bowl and they ran out of bowls. The employees spent a good 5-10 minutes looking for more bowls and finally decided they would use the aluminum lids as bowls and cover them with foil (not the smartest idea but it worked). Once I got to order I realized they were completely out of mild salsa and out of cilantro. They apologized and said they didn't know they would be that busy and that they just opened. I did get a free bag of chips for them being out of things. Other than the lack of supplies, the food was still good and consistent with other locations. The employees seemed happy like the other locations as well. Again, they just opened so hopefully they can get their act together, speed things up, and order the proper amount of supplies. I'll give them another month and stop in again to see if there is improvement and edit the star rating accordingly.

I've had mixed experiences at this Chipotle. When it first opened, this Chipotle was great. The employees were running on all cylinders, the food was hot, and it was a great experience that was worth the out-the-door line wait. The long lines have persisted, but the service has fallen off a bit. On a visit last month, the girl who was making my order didn't know what she was doing (as a point of reference, I like my tacos with only meat, cheese, and lettuce- not a tough ask), and was very stingy with my ask for extra meat. The extra meat taco at this location looked like the regular meat taco at every other location. I have to agree with another reviewer that it doesn't seem like the manager knows how to prioritize responsibilities during dinner rush; employees were doing everything but taking orders, and the food wasn't at a point where anything outside of the chicken needed to be replenished. This is my go-to Chipotle, but I'll be looking to place more online orders in the future. It'll get my money because I support my community, but it isn't worth standing in an out-the-door line anymore.

Worst employees in the history of man kind . Great food but horrible employees. I just don't understand why they can't be nice.

I normally eat Chipotle downtown on Jackson on my lunch break. I've finally went to the local Chipotle that opened about a year ago in my own neighborhood on Cicero and Route 30. Big Mistake! On Feb 21st, 9:30p they ran out of steak and cheese. REALLY???? Managemebt you need to order better. Won't be back

This place is horrible. I stood in line waiting to be served as 3 employees stood around and talked. Finally I got my food but when I got home it was a piece of curly hair and scrapping from the grill. Never again!!!

I go here twice a week before a night class down the street. Usually short on time and looking for something fast, warm and reasonably healthy with protein and veggies. Chipotle's it is. I decided to write this review after visiting a different Chipotle's today. And, in fact, I also recalled a Chipotle's I visited regularly during the summer of 2013. The Matteson store is fast and clean. There is a young woman I've encountered twice at the start of the line (glasses?) who is a bit tarty but most of the staff is consistently friendly and efficient. Compared to the Hyde Park store, where I was today, the Matteson store consistently runs like a rocket. I'm there anywhere from 5:30p to 6p and there is ALWAYS a line. I am in the door and out with food in 10 minutes. If you are a Chipotle's fan and happen to find yourself short on time during rush hour, this is the place to go. I love it!!!!

Wow! Chipotle Mexican Grill is one of my favorite place to go. I have to say ordering today in Matteson was terrible! I noticed this one in Matteson has a high turnover in employees like every week and the service are worst when I attend. Nasty counter, food in other food pans. If I didn't want corn, why would you have a cup of corn in the medium sauce and expect me to deal with it and roll eyes because I ask not to have corn in my sauce. Meat dry, over cooked, beans old sitting in a pan, food at wrong temperature (meaning cold food), and Employees have Nasty attitudes. Chipotle, teach your employees how to roll a Burrito, it's not that hard. Teach how to keep the counter clean, teach them manners and good customer service. Call Orland Park, Loop, South Loop, or Homewood to help you. Otherwise Chipotle in Matteson will end up like Matteson Mall. The customer service, food, and unclean is making Chipotle Mexican Grill look bad. They have great food, but not in Matteson. I'm not trying to be mean, if it was my business which I already have my own business, I would not want this to happen and have my customers to experience this. Visit your company, see what is going on by dropping by. I'm sure your business has dropped due to the employees your manager is hiring.

I love chipotle, unfortunately this is the worst chipotle I have ever been to. I order online a lot through this chipotle cause it's close to work. Every order we have gotten from there they have messed up. The most recent was when we got 3 burrito bowls with chicken and steak and double meat. We don't mind paying for the extra. But when we received the food, there was no meat period. This is the 3rd time they have messed it up. The first 1/2 time they forgot the double meat. 1/2 times they put steak instead of chicken, forgot the bottle drinks and quesadillas. This time they forgot the meat completely. This was what made me write a review. Staff is average. With some clearly not wanting to be there and others who don't really don't care about quality. Definitely double check your order and think twice about coming here.

Servers are rude and they give you almost no meat with your order. Such a ripoff. Travel to Tinley Park or Frankfort for your Chipotle fix.

I've been to this location twice and both visits the service was so horrible. I agree with one of the early reviewers some of the staff are very rude, when taking orders. I spoke loud and clearly on both visits only to have to repeat myself several times and have someone roll their eyes at me when I had to literally yell just to get my order right, also both times they forgot my salsa to go with my chips partly my fault in assuming they would throw it in the bag without me having to double check.... Def need some more training. This location hurts the restaurants brand.

This is a new location, it's clean now but lets see how long that last. I like that it is the closet one to my place. There stingy with the steak meat. They lady that fixed my food was cleaning the counter with a towel and turned around and put gloves on to make my taco without washing her hands, disgusting. The staff had smug attitudes and not really ginuwinlly pleasant, you could tell they were forcing it.

When Chipotle first came out, it was awesome! The food was warm, balanced rice/sour cream/meat./cheese, and the burritos were big. I went there constantly and despite waiting a while for the food, I considered it time well spent. I went here on 08/16/2014 (last week) for my final time. The parking lot here is congested, but I parked no problem. Waited roughly 10 minutes to get from the doors to the food, which was about average from this location. I got my usual, a burrito with steak, sour cream, white rice, and cheese with medium salsa. I am white and my english is pretty good. I speak fairly clear, yet the second worker could not understand a word I said. So I had to repeat "steak", "medium salsa" (said that twice, yet got MILD salsa...nice touch!), "a little sour cream" (got a lot!) and "cheese" was the only one she seemed to understand. Then when she rolled my burrito, I was appalled....it was about the size of a taco! I complained to the cashier, who seemed annoyed and informed me she worked in many different Chipotle locations and, "this is how they always make them!". I told her she was full of it, I eat here monthly and mine has never been this small, but she still continued to argue with me! (The customer is always right, not here...even when you are right you are wrong!) So, getting angry, I sat down to eat the "burritaco". The meat was cold, too much sour cream, which was the most prevalent flavor. So not only was it a third of the size of how they used to be, it was not good and tasted nasty. A manager just happened to go past me, and I complained to him about the "language barrier" and the cold, pathetic "burrito" I received. He was at least polite, but I got two free "chips and guacamole" cards for the price of my horrible experience. Unfortunately, this experience is not limited to this location, they are all cheapening out, yet charging more. You get very little meat, lots of rice, and enough sour cream to make 3 burritos. You have to be very strict with the people making your food apparently, or you will end up basically getting ripped off. $10.00 for a cold taco and a small drink? Pass. Buyer beware!

The parking lot is hell. Recommend dropping someone off to grab the food and coming around after a few minutes. The burrito was wonderful except that they never offered guacamole or lettuce. They do offer the new tofu filling which is a plus. Though I did come in during dinner rush, they did not offer much customer service. I'll shop here again but I'll certainly not expect any customer service.

First visit - I had never been to a Chipotle so I took today to try this one. The interior decor leaves something to be desired. The food was tasty enough. Food is served like a Subway. You have to listen to what others are ordering or all questions to know what the different order choices mean. I opted for the bowl since it was simple enough to understand. The workers didn't quite know what the contents of items were, which is very important for a non-meat eater. Small parking lot but enough space for someone running in to pick up a meal there's enough space.. It's one of the better places to eat in the area.

I feel like I have received the worst experience ever at the Chipotle in Matteson. When I arrived, I wasn't greeted. They were joking around and having a good time, and even though they saw me, I was ignored. Then a young lady noticed, still did NOT say hello, did not positively acknowledge me in any way, but said "one minute". I was instantly displeased at her treatment. So, I waited patiently. After a minute had passed, and no one had even looked in my direction, I said nevermind and walked to the door. On a second thought, I turned and asked to speak to a manager. As the assistant manager came out, the girl who was supposed to be making my order claimed that she greeted me. She did not. She attempted to make me look like a liar. It was embarrassing and stressful. I asked for a number to call for corporate and the assistant manager coldly told me to go on the website and send an email. She was extremely dismissive and rude. She honestly did not seem to care that her employees were not properly doing their jobs. I have never been treated like this in ANY establishment, especially not a Chipotle. I went to Taco Bell instead, and while the food is not as good, the service was excellent. I am a business owner, with a new location right across the way from Chipotle. I am also vegan and was looking for a regular restaurant that could cater to my needs. I was disappointed and totally unsatisfied with the treatment I received. I will not visit this location again, but I would like an explanation for their unprofessional actions. I will NOT recommend this Chipotle to my employees or other vegan friends.

Well I enjoy eating Chipotle but this place customer service is horrible. It seems some of the works don't know how to be polite to customers. One cashier decided to bag chips during rush hour. I wait at least 4 minutes until she decided to check me out at the register.

Got a burrito with a fly inside. All they offered was to remake it. At least offer a gift card maybe I'm not hungry after seeing such unhygienic conditions.

  • Daneyda H.

Every time I go in there, the employees seem miserable. It's true that a lot of times you get ignored. My biggest complaint is the portions they give you. I've been at other locations and this is the stingiest by far. They barely add enough meat and if you ask for extra they don't even double it, they just give you a tiny bit more. For an extra $2.35 you would think that you could at least get a decent amount of meat on your burrito. I have heard many customers complain about this when I'm there. If Chipotle wants to make customers happy, they need to stop being so cheap.

    (2)
  • Michael M.

Nothing really spectacular if compared to the other Chipotle. I was shock to see they sell tofu tacos. Tried them and it was delicious. Definitely will order again.

  • Elaine C.

Sure they're slow, but like another poster stated, most of the people in front of me, and my husband as well, were unfamiliar with the ordering process which slows things down quite a bit when the staff have to explain the same things over and over again. I've probably stopped in three times now, and each time it has improved. Although, the last time we were there, they overcharged us a few bucks. The girl at the register called for the manager (she had to ask a co-worker his name in order to get his attention, which I found strange), and he immediately rectified the situation by giving both my husband and I coupons for free burritos in the future. The manager is new to the store and said he was just brought in to turn things around, and I have a feeling that he will get this location on track in no time!

Everything that has been posted about this Chipotle is absolutely true,(with the exception of the comment about the size, african american community, etc. - I'm not sure what that's all about). The management is truly failing the owner as well as the community which patronizes it. I'm not sure about anyone else, but I couldn't wait until Chipotle opened. Until now, I've had to travel as far north as 159th and Harlem and as far west as Wolf Rd in Frankfort just to enjoy a good meal from my favorite restaurant. This Chipotle was suppose to be a Godsend but, it has been very disappointing thus far. The managers blame the bad/lack of service on the large number of customers when, in reality, the problem is the staffing. I used the online service tonight and after arriving 10 minutes after it was scheduled for pickup still had to wait an additional 15 minutes. Mind you, when the order was placed, the website said it would not be ready for an hour. I understand that this is a new location BUT it is not a restaurant new to the service industry. Chipotle is well established and should not be associated with this type of reputation. The service is extremely slow, the online feature is useless and the employees are not good service providers. Step it up Chipotle!!! Until then, I believe that I will wait for the completion of the new location in Homewood. Hopefully, it will be better staffed/managed.

Great food, lousy location. Agreeing with the other posts, even after 6 months this is one of the worst chipotle locations. Luckily even the worst chipotle is pretty good, at least in my book. Order online or on your smart phone to avoid the line if possible. Parking sucks. Despite numerous opportunities in the area, they jammed this, vitamin world and five guys in a space that was small for a gas station. If you can't find a spot there's a driveway that connects with toys r us lot for extra parking or to make a left on 30.

There has been much improvement here since last time I came to eat during lunch. This time around, they were not shy with the their portions. We definitely got our money's worth. I do have to say though that the customer service needs to improve. There was no customer to server interaction, other than the taking of our orders.

    (3)
  • Nova H.

Wouldn't say I'm a fan BUT it was pretty good service. It was practically empty when I went up there. All I had to do was walk up and order my food. Minus the fact that the guy making my bowl had an attitude like..dude chill. Ch-ch-chill.

  • Matt S.

Just don't go at 5pm, there is always a mother (shouting "double meat!") buying for 10 kids and a hubby at home. If that's you, order online please. Service is good and food worth the wait.

I was out with son three and he was... You guessed it; hungry! It's really no surprise - when is he not hungry and we're out? Chipotle's is a great go to instead of really greasy fast food, at least I see the rice, the veggies, the cheese, the meats... These folks are really busy - of course, what Chipotle's isn't at supper time? Still they were accommodating and pleasant. I don't usually run out to Matteson for Chipotle's, but if in the area and looking for a healthy alternative - then Chipotle's it is.

  • Shayness M.

Sadly I hesitated awhile going to this location because I've heard nothing but complaints since it opened. I usually go to the one in Tinley and now I will continue. For the price of the food the service could be be a lot better. Also the servings here are by far the smallest I've received at any Chipolte. Lesson learned

  • Shirelle T.

My visit at the Matteson location was a good one. The service was fast and the food was fresh. It is a new location, I wasn't sure if it would be any good because I went the first month when the location open and it wasn't very good. Someone told me that I should give it time because most suburban restaurant food chains need time to adjust, so I gave it time and it's been pretty good lately. I also go to the one near Orland Mall and the new location on Halsted in Glenwood/ Homewood,IL. They're all pretty good.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
