Not a bad place to go out on someone else's dime! The decor is a classic old dinner steakhouse. It is very dimly lit, so much so that you feel like a vampire when you come out ;). The menu is a typical dinner fare with appetizers, steaks, wood roasted chicken, burgers, salads, and libations. The food is a bit overpriced, but mostly delicious. I gave it 4 Stars. Check it out when your boss is paying :)

I'm not a regular customer, but I would go there now and then for lunch. Sunday took a friend to lunch. I order the southwest salad. I asked for the chicken on the side because it comes out hot and don't like hot chicken on a salad. I also asked the waiter if they could toss the dressing on the salad. When the salads came the waiter informed me that the kitchen did it this time but will not do it in the future. They only have ONE bowl to toss salads and that is for Caesars. I told him maybe they should invest in another bowl. What ever happened to customer service? I can get a salad anywhere. Won't be back there.

How cheap of an owner runs this establishment-they pass the cost of the to go containers on to the guest. Really poor business tactic. I will never visit any of the jimmy's char houses again

We've been coming to this place for a long time, as well as the old "sister" restaurants to it that are either no longer associated with this one, or are closed, and I don't really want to give it a bad review, but I feel like I must because of the really bad, arrogant treatment we received there recently. The food is good, pretty stable, not the best. I really like the atmosphere. However I'm of the opinion they use a ton of MSG in everything, and my husband told me this recent visit gave him a lasting gift in the bathroom, if you get my drift. There are superior (and cheaper) dining options even right down the street, at Austin's or Lino's. Like someone else here said, it's not fancy but an OK place to go on someone else's dime. This is why I'm rating 2 stars instead of 1. In fact, we did go on someone else's dime this time: my Dad's. Last year for Christmas we bought him a gift certificate from our daughter. The deal was, buy $100 and get $25 extra. The gift envelope came with 5 cards packed into it, each with the value of $25. They all have holiday graphics on them, so it was very obvious they were bought at Christmastime and that they were part of this 5 for 4 deal. If you haven't noticed, lots of places have been doing the "get an extra $25" last year or two, but since this was my daughter's first grade teacher's favorite place to eat, I decided to buy her class gift there and while we were at it, do the same for my Dad. Unfortunately when we went to pay for our dinner with the three leftover certificates in the envelope, (turns out it was two regular certificates and the extra free one), they told us the $25 extra was expired in June and we could not use it. The waitress was really nice about it, but we asked to see the manager/owner. We explained to him that we had already used $50 of the $100 regular gift certificate dollars back in March, and if their policy was that the $25 extra couldn't be used after June, our server back then had a *responsibility* as part of an establishment that cares about their customers to ask if we'd used the free $25 yet. He didn't agree, just grunted at us grumpily and told us we were out of luck. My husband insisted on asking him directly to let the waitstaff know next year that they should: A. Make sure any buyer of the certificate knows that the $25 expires early and: B. Make sure they ask any customer that presents one of these VERY obvious regular holiday coupons, if they've used the accompanying $25 that expires first!! He (sort of) said he would do that (yeah, right) but made sure to stick it to us that it is written on the free $25 card that it expires in June. Really!!!!?? So on the off-chance that I was randomly wondering if 1/5 of my certificates expired, I was supposed to rifle through my Dad's envelope to read the fine print on all 5 of them? Should I also check the sky to see if a piano might be falling my way? It was CHANCE that we drew the two regular certificates out to pay the first time, and we were punished for it. Aside from the rude, uncaring behavior of the one person who has benefitted greatly from all the $$$$$$$ we have spent there in the last 15 years, I am of the opinion that their policy of having one of the certificates expire is CHEESY AND RUDE beyond belief. Legally, stores and restaurants cannot gouge patrons anymore by having gift certificates expire, but technically the extra $25 was not "bought" by anyone, i.e. we did not lay out $125 for our $125, so legally that is the one certificate the owner can use as a draw to make someone buy the deal, and then withdraw if they are as unlucky as we were. I can see why he has no plans to train his waitstaff to do anything other than "their job" of bringing plates to the table. Buyer beware -- not only did you lose my business for any future teacher, friend or family gift certificates, but you lost my whole family as a customer. Hope that $25 was worth it!!!

Food was ok for the price. The waitress was very short with us and seemed irritated that we were unfamiliar with the menu/needed additional time

Great atmosphere and food. John is always willing to accommodate you. Had a bone in filet mignon I ordered medium but arrived almost well done. He was quick to rectify the situation. I highly recommend the Mediterranean shrimp with a glass of Oberon Sauvignon Blanc.

I liked this place, it had an old school steakhouse feel and the staff were all super friendly, we thoroughly enjoyed our meal.

I'm going to preface this review by saying that Jimmy's Char House is not a prime steak house, like Capital Grille or Magnum's. The top review highlight says that I have to take away a star because it's in a strip mall. Really, dude? How arrogant and pretentious! The best Thai restaurant in the country in Las Vegas is in a strip mall. Here's what I say, if you love $50 ribeye steaks with $10 a'la carte baked potatoes, have at it. That's not what this place is. You don't always get what you pay for, but at Jimmy's I think you get more than you pay for. I'm pretty sure this is a Greek restaurant. The saganaki appetizer gave it away. Jimmy's Char House delivers a fine dining steak house experience at a value price point, so I'm a fan! The interior is dark and smells delicious with an open kitchen spanning the length of the dining rooms. The styling is American Colonial / Eighties / suburban Gingham Goose. Because it has a high nostalgia and camp factor, I really love it. The servers are in white shirts with black ties and black pants. They are friendly, old school and know how to upsell. A basic entree will give you some fresh bread and butter, basic soup or salad, protein with veggies and a starch like a baked potato, mashed or rice. These are fine, but I'd stay away from the basic version of most of the stuff. You can get a caesar salad or wedge salad for a couple bucks more. My wedge salad was loaded with bacon and blue cheese and would have been better with a little more dressing on it, but I still ate it! You can get delicious roasted and lightly sauteed mushrooms for a couple bucks more as well. They'll finish your steak with an Al Forno preparation which consists of breadcrumbs, fontina cheese and garlic for a couple of bucks more as well-- this one is highly recommended by me. They also have a horseradish crust for a modest upcharge. I will also rave about the cauliflower mashed potatoes which come in a little gratin pan and are superb for a little extra. Because the entrees are so reasonable, the upcharges can take your meal from uninteresting to sublime, so customize your meal. The strip steak was thick, tasty and lean. The medium rare finish was just a bit over, so I would order a little under what you like. The ribeye was large and juicy. Our server kept my group of three happy and entertained. We shared two desserts: the brownie sundae and chocolate lava cake. I liked my brownie sundae and it was only $5. We didn't try any appetizers, because with the salads or soup, I was plenty full. I like camp. I like charm. I like value. I like steak. Jimmy's Char House delivers these in spades!

Wow! Great food. Tasteful ambience and a staff that is well trained and dedicated to providing the best dining experience in central Lake county. The bar staff is the best I have seen in the area! John has meticulously brought together the best staff and food in Libertyville. Don't miss the incredible $5 "Happy Hour" meals only available in the bar.

I'm at Jimmy's Charhouse at least once a month. The service is always outstanding and the sandwiches are great. Most of the time, our committee meets in the private back room which is also perfect for parties. I love the antique technology that decorate the restaurant such as typewriters, phones and cameras.

LOVE having this spot within 10 min from our place! It is a cute little family owned place that hits the spot when you want good steaks, burgers, sea food and atmosphere. I love the martini's here, and the drinks are supper reasonably priced, $6-$10... and they use top shelf. The food here is finger-lickin-good! You can't go wrong with any of the steaks, or sides, or soups and even their salads are made with home made delicious dressings. The service is A+ and everything comes out with perfect timing. They do have a family meal carry out menu which you can call ahead and they will have ready the same day! If you come here towards a later dinner time (I would say after 830pm on the weekends) be prepared they maybe out of things like prime rib or certain desserts, but like I said this isn't some big corporate place that has a freezer full of frozen meat. I can't wait to come back!

What a great find! On the list from the hotel (Residence Marriott Mettawa)where we stayed, we were looking for a great place to have our last dinner with our new sailor before leaving Great Lakes. Superb service with Leah, excellent menu offerings and huge portions - even left our son with leftovers to take back to base. Thank you so much for giving us an excellent dinner experience before we had to leave town!

Stumbled on this local gem while traveling on business. Sat at the bar and had 2 excellent bartenders not only keep the wine flowing with liberal pours, but also recommended and served an excellent fillet with sides. Also had fresh shrimp cocktail appetizer as the bar special. Great service and food.

Bland food. They do not season anything. Took my husband and brother here with the family to celebrate a family occasion. When the food arrived we were all so excited only to be very disappointed by the blandness of it all. Looks delicious but don't get your hopes up for explosions of flavor in your mouth.

I had high hopes for Jimmy's after seeing how packed the restaurant was on Friday night. When I realized the majority of the patrons here were..how should I put this...much older than us, I lowered my expectations a little. I've come to realize my taste in food is much different than that of a senior. Not to say my taste is better, just different. The boyfriend and I decided to share a burger and the steak & lobster. The cheeseburger was actually the highlight of the meal. It was juicy and meaty and pretty darn good for a steakhouse. The fries were terrible so we stuck with the garlic mashed potatoes that came with our other entree (be sure to add bacon and cheese). Now on to the "other" entree: steak and lobster. For $24. I really shouldn't have been surprised by how bad it was. You get what you pay for. The steak was cooked well but had absolutely NO flavor. I ate about 2 pieces before I quit and went for the burger instead. And the lobster was obviously previously frozen. It was chewy and wasn't even enjoyable when I drenched it in butter. The total bill for our meal was about $50. Pretty good considering it included (unappetizing) steak and lobster, a huge burger, and a (off-menu) chocolate milkshake. I would consider returning for the burger but Jimmy's is definitely not my top choice when it comes to steak.

Ambiance, service, and food all on point here in Waukegan illnois. I had the chicken marsala and it was delicious. Chicken was nice and tender sauce well done. Had the crab cakes for appetizer which was also very good& homemade, not frozen shit. They have specials that rotate, all sounded delicious. For a place in middle of no where in a strip mall , def worth checking out if your in this area of illinois.

Reviews were all hit or miss, but I took a gamble and went last night. Mostly empty but I went late. I liked the decor in the place personally, like an older neighborhood steakhouse like in remember from my childhood. Service was great all night. Got ribeye with the crust. Steak was cooked perfectly, that crust is amazing. Steak quality wasn't the best, a little sinewy, but overall I was very pleased and would come back again.

I attended a health and spinal education dinner in their private banquet room last week. The setup was very nice and the staff super friendly upon entering the restaurant. I know what you are thinking, why is this review only 2 stars if you started your review with such positive energy. Well this review does not reflect the food because it was delicious and the private banquet room servers were fantastic. I couldn't help but notice there was a low attendance for this event. I counted roughly 21 people having dinner and clearly there was another 25 or so empty seats. Perhaps the cold weather elements kept from filling the room. The seminar was informative and kept everyone's interest. A real eye opener to spinal health and lifestyle. Once the event was over it was not difficult to over hear the speaker of the event's conversation with management. The speaker was more than willing to pay for the agreed upon empty chairs and their plates. What took me by surprise was the restaurant's response to the speaker's request to have the empty seats dinner meals bagged as a carryout order. The speaker mentioned to management he will take them to a homeless shelter immediately after since he was paying for them. ***** HERE IS WHERE I HAVE A BIG PROBLEM ****** Management declined his request by direct order of the Jimmy's Charhouse owner. Are you kidding me!!! Does the owner not realize the Waukegan Township has a Staben House that houses homeless women and their children. Those meals could have fed all of them. For whatever reason those meals never left Jimmy's Charhouse for the simple fact of following their management guidelines. Happy Holidays to Jimmy's Charhouse just remember its your community that keeps you in business.

We had dinner here while visiting our daughter. The staff was friendly and attentive. I had the ribeye steak, it was cooked perfectly and was delicious. My daughters steak was undercooked and had to go back. We ordered potato skins that were burned and hard. The waiter took the skins off our bill when he saw that we didn't like them. Overall it was a very nice place and with good flavored steaks. The calamari was also pretty good. I would recommend this place to friends.

I'm quickly learning that the NW suburbs of Chicago have very different restaurants than the loop, or even the northern lakeshore suburbs. :) That said, comparatively for the area, I was pleased with Jimmy's Charhouse for a few reasons: 1) Friendly, accommodating, caring service 2) Tasty food, even if not foodie quality 3) Warm, welcoming ambiance - especially on a cold winter, snowy night Upon arrival on a cold, windy, snowy, icy wintery evening, we entered a busy restaurant with many dining and a warm fireplace. It looked very pub-like, and I felt as though I could be in the mountains, the UK, or New England with the look & feel. We ordered the filet mignon appetizer skewers. They had tasty flavoring, but I thought the beef quality was less than satisfactory - chewy and such. I ordered the Greek Rotisserie half chicken (a quarter would have been sufficient! given that's all I could eat - and even that was ample). I requested all white meat and paid the additional charge. I opted for the regular salad, though when I saw my colleague's Grecian salad with dark green lettuces, I'd wished I would have read the salad selection in more detail - his looked better! (Mine was iceberg-ish, but fine.) And I had the garlic mashed potatoes on the side - yummy! I was happy with all that I ordered, but I will say the chicken breast was more moist (oily? more fat? I worried...) than I expected, so perhaps not as healthy as I hoped. I would have ordered a steak, but I did not see any labeling to meet my parameters (e.g. organic, grass-fed, no antibiotics, no steroids, etc.) so I avoided that topic entirely. I did the same re: fish, and played it safe with chicken. In the future, I would love to see such care be taken towards the ingredients, as the preparation looked lovely on a few of the dinner entrees. One more perk on our server was that the first glass of wine I ordered was sweet / vinegar-y tasting, so she swapped it out with no hassle whatsoever. That was nice and easy and professional. Best of all! The chocolate cake - YUM! (And I'm picky on this topic. All chocolate cake is not delicious - surprisingly, but it's true.) And yeah, I ate healthier on the entree, then splurged selectively on dessert :)

Horrible experience! Have been at Jimmy's many many many times, but this was the worse experience Ever!, Food was terrible, cold, waitress not at all helpful, only came once to ask us if we needed anything, there were 6 of us, and no one enjoyed or even ate the food, wanted to just leave, and get out as fast as possible, totally lost our appetite and will her g back! Ever! I even called to complain, because was so upset after I suggested the place to meet for a nice summer dinner at one of my abortive restaurants, never again!,, Hopefully they will get back to me and see what happened, be careful people if you go, Make sure you like the food, if not tell them right away, don't be like me and wIt until you're so sick all night and day, might be food poising, yuk!

I hate Calamari, but Jimmy's Charhouse makes the 'best' Calamari. I like their salads and soup. For entrees, I really like their Ribs. It gets kind of dark in the restaurant though (where you can't even see the menu items). Once we took my husband there for his birthday (while it was 98 degrees outside); and right before ordering desserts, their electricity went out. Let me tell you, it got smokey in there and really hot - - so we had to end our dinner. I was shocked that they did not give us some kind of discount or offered us some desserts to go. Come on, they knew we were there for a birthday, and you have to celebrate with desserts (well, at least I think you should).

Normally you are pretty good but I've had a bad day and you made it worse. Not, I've lost my house and all my money kind of worse but just an every day kind of worse. A lot of little things went wrong including being pulled over for speeding on my way to your restaurant. I ordered from you because my husband wanted your mashed potatoes. He has been talking about mashed potatoes for days like an obsessive 5 year old. He's tired, half sick and extremely cranky so I did you a favor and did not bring him in your fine establishment but I placed my order as takeout. I asked if I could have mashed potatoes instead of fries. I requested mashed potatoes, you confirmed that I wanted mashed potatoes and when I got home (not one mile faster over the posted speed limit), I opened the container to find French fries. I nearly burst into tears from frustration. I needed one thing to go right in my day and you failed me. Ok, I'll admit your burger was pretty fabulous despite it being contaminated by juice from the accompanying pickle but I won't hold you responsible for that as you were unaware of my pickle phobia. I would not eat the fries out of sheer bitterness and the afore mentioned pickle juice problem. However, my husband is still craving mashed potatoes for which I hold you completely responsible.

Great goat cheese dip appetizer. Me and my wife both had the New York strip steak. The steak was cooked perfectly. The whole dining experience was five Star our server was extremely friendly and helpful with out being too involved will definitely go back

Myself and my family love this restaurant we always come here for events and family parties. Normally I don't complain but this time the server was so BAD I had to. This younger blonde served us it must be her first job. After we sat down it took a good ten minutes for anyone to come to the table. Like I said we frequently come here so most of us know the menu pretty well it would have been nice to b able to order right away. She kept forgetting to fill our drinks I hate having to ask that's the servers job. My grandmother is hard of hearing and I get that u need to speak a bit louder but not full on shouting at her. I thought I was the only one bothered by this but after the waitress left a few members of the group had commented as well. Like I said I don't normally complain and I'm very easy to please but this specific waitress pushed me to the point of complaining. Like I said she's the younger blonde in her young 20s I'm assuming. So because of this one experience I'm going to have to rate it only 3 stars.

Ambience.and service are wonderful. Food was a.different story. Group of four visited for sister's bday dinner. Premeal included a wonderful piping hot French Onion soup, which all enjoyed and calimari which was bland, over cooked, and rubbery I ordered a char-broiled ribeye...came with julienned green peppers and a herbed butter drapped over the ribeye. The mashed potatoes and side vegetables were fine. The peppers, to me had a slight freezer burn taste, and the butter really lacked significant flavor, which it too bad because the steak, while cooked to my specification, was very bland, and did not seem to be of decent quality. My wife was equally dissapointed with her pasta dish. Did not ask the other two in the group as to any comments on their meals. Two desserts were shared, chocolate cake and key lime pie...both were very good. Very doubtful that I will make it back to Jimmys, I know of other steak places which i have had better meals at...and sorry to say but, Outback is one of them.

The portions are way too big at this place, I can barely eat 1/2 of what they prepare for you. On the plus side, it smells amazing in there with the wood burning oven and the food is always delicious! Grecian Chicken... Amazing!

I've been going to Jimmy's for years because they do everything very well. It is one of the few restaurants in Lake County that serves good food at reasonable prices that is not a tavern. They have great steaks and very fresh seafood, a wide variety of appetizers and a wine list to match. The service is excellent in the bar and the restaurant, they have regular specials and can handle large and small parties. Over all Jimmy's is a place where you really feel at home and can expect good food

We r here now and were just told that the 30oz porterhouse advertised on their website is not here and is a 22 oz. Then they don't have their homemade crab cakes available. They ran out yesterday. Did you know they also don't have baked potatoes for lunch!!!! Wth!? Is there a magic oven to cook these that only cooks after 4PM??? We ordered the Calamari and it was rubbery and mushy! I tried to take my husband out for a nice lunch on Valentine's day and this was an epic fail!!! Jimmy's what happened to u. U suck now!!! Well we were equally disappointed in our meals.... No seasoning on the false advertised steak. Not even SALT AND PEPPER!!! It was tough hard to cut. I even looked at my husband and wondering why he was shaking the table as he cut it. I thought the knife was dull. Nope I tried to cut it and the whole table just shook!!! Needless to say the dog has dinner tonight a very expensive damn dinner! My pan fried Walleye was average not worth the $20.00 we paid for it. So thank goodness there is salt and pepper at home along with tartar sauce because yeah it was not that good! We will not be going back there EVER AGAIN! OMG it is awful! We thought we would give them a second chance and every time is a disappointment. Good Bye Jimmy's I will ensure that we never recommend you to anyone!

One of the best places to eat. The food was hot, delicious & tasty. My Son Alex had the 16 oz Prime Rib Eye with fries. My Wife had Roast Pork with mashed potatoes, salad. I had BBQ Chicken with baked potato & salad. The chicken was so tender & juicy. We will be back here. The atmosphere was very quiet & dinner was very relaxing with an awesome ambiance. The server Jackie gave 5 Star service! If your looking for a great place to eat your searching has come to an end!

My father picked Jimmy's Charhouse for his 74th birthday luncheon after a nice long bike ride with family. Honestly, the waitress was sweet. I only had to ask twice for a pitcher of iced water, for I drink a lot of water. We all ordered (14 of us), not a small group, but there were only 3 or 4 other tables on a Sunday at 12:30pm. First clue things weren't too good. The soups and salads came pretty promptly. However, my salad could of been more chilled and crispy. It wasn't the best. My husband had the French onion soup, which he could barely eat because it was so salty. My niece enjoyed hers. When the food arrived we all start commenting. My husband ordered the ribeye rare and it was more med well. Both my brother and I order the chopped steaks med and they were well done, burnt to a crisp on the edges and so dry that we were barely able to shallow. My brother asked for some jus. He commented to the server how terrible the meats were cooked and we were afraid to send the meals back. My sister and father both ordered the patty melts and again these were cooked dry of all juices. My other niece had the same comment about her philly cheesesteak. Garlic mashed potatoes-did someone forget to actually roast some garlic bulbs. These potatoes were inedible they were so full of garlic. Yuck. What a disappointment. My father who did order his patty med well even said, "this is more well done than I can even handle". Wow, what a disappointment going to a charhouse and expecting some great meats coming to the table. A manager never even came to the table to apologize. Perhaps empower your servers if you can't come out of your office. And train your Chef (dishwasher) how to temp meat.

About 15 coworkers from out of town gathered for a group dinner. I was somewhat cautious due to the either rave or cold reviews posted by others. We were seated in a separate room, which was really great for post meeting discussions. Our server, Gail, expertly took care of us. She was dead-on with suggestions, whether entrée or drink selections. Kudos to her and the kitchen getting everyone served correctly, considering all the variations with the sides. The food: Everything is priced very reasonably. The special tonight was bacon wrapped filet, which two people odered. Both dishes were cooked properly (one med rare, other med well). Others ordered the rotisserie chicken, moist and not overcooked. I got the baby back ribs, also moist and just falling off the bone. Portions were huge so no one had room for dessert. Only one caution - they use artifical crab (shredded and processed fishcake), so I would recommend staying away from anything that says 'crab'.

Oh man, this place is soo good. I wish I had been hungrier. I felt uncomfortable taking a child here, but we were looking for a lunch somewhere in the area and now I REALLY want to go back! The kids pasta portions are enormous, and it was only $7. It's twice as much pasta as they give you at Corner Bakery and it didn't give me diarrhea either. Woohoo! I'm coming back for a steak or burger as soon as I can find a reason to get back to this area. It's just down the street from Independence Grove Nature Preserve!

Was here with a group of 20-not the best food I've ever had, but the service was fantastic. I had a French onion soup, rib we steak, and chocolate mousse cake. The soup was good, the steak was cooked as ordered, and was fine, but nothing I would have to eat again-and the steamed veggies served on the side were cold when they reached the table. The cake was the best part of the meal. Serving a big group isn't easy, and our waitress was fantastic and friendly. Water and wine glasses were kept full, and we never had to remind her who had what. Overall a comfortable place-nothing wowed me, but I would eat here again.

We were a group on 20 people and Jimmy's was my selection having had a good experience there about 6 months prior. Almost everyone who ordered steak commented that it was just OK, but certainly not top quality. Almost everyone who had fish and even some who had the pork chops was very pleased. But this is a STEAKHOUSE and so a return trip for our next company event is unlikely. A small group if non- steak eaters will probably be happy they tried Jimmy's. I will note that everyone was pleased with the appetizers and the service was very good. Hence, the 3 stars instead of 2, had either of those been average or less.

My son ordered off the kids menu (8yrs or under) and was told the drink that came with it was carbonated pop only. Waiter was nice and checked with manager who said juice or other noncarbonated drink substitution could not be done. So this place is not kid friendly even with their kid menu.

The wife and I have been holding our weekly 'date night' at various eating establishments around Lake County. Some have been good, some have been average and others... well. keep reading. Before we go to a new place, we Yelp it. I read the good & bad reviews so I can have some idea of what to expect. We have been to Jimmy's several times - last time was more than 2yrs ago. Oh how time passed by. From what I recall, the food was 'good', not world class - but good. Certainly worth a retrip. When I read some of the most recent reviews, what struck me was a trend to the negative. One Yelper mentioned that his steak "was devoid of any seasoning" and others mentioned the dark outdated decor. Our trip was on par with the reviews. Jimmy's is VERY dark, VERY 70s or 80s feeling, the wait staff is 'good' and the food is ok. Drinks: Bravo! Someone knows how to pour a good generous gin martini. Perfect water/booze mix, yummy blue cheese stuffed olives. Apps: Shrimp DeJonghe. Oozing with clarified butter, garlic and bread crumbs. On par with what I expected. Yumm! Salad: Both of use had the house salad, wife chose balsamic dressing and I chose blue cheese. The salad was nothing but a bunch of chopped iceberg lettuce with a slice of tomato on top. Watery lettuce, hard bland tomato and in my case awful bottled blue cheese dressing. I ate a few bites and moved it along. The wifes dressing looked home made. Wifes Entree: Scallops with a side of mashed cauliflower. The scallops were very good sized, I think 6 came to an order....but... no seasoning what so ever on them. The flipside was the mashed cauliflower. The chef certainly was very heavy handed with the salt. My Entree: NY Strip with mashed cauliflower. The steak was cooked to a perfect med rare. The cut was very well done. Presentation was quite nice (broccoli & carrots on the right side).....but....the beef was devoid of any seasoning what so ever. In 10 years, I have 'slated' my food at the table 5 times. Max. #6 occurred tonight. The beef was totally bland and the cauliflower was exactly the same as the wifes, very salty. Should I have sent back the salads, beef & scallops? Yes. But we were short for time and just ate. Will I go back in less than a year? No. Would I reconsider it again if I see more positive Yelps (especially ones which say that their beef was properly seasoned)? Yes. Would I hit the bar scene for a martini? Yes. I think this place needs a bit of kitchen re-training. They have several missed steps which would have given them 3 or 4 stars, not my 2 star rating.

Great food and setting, our reservation was honored and we were seated on time (impressive, considering it was Thanksgiving night) . The only downfall is that it took a long time to get our orders. Will still go back there!

My boyfriend and I went on a date here and we have very different eating tastes. It's hard to find a place that we both like. Jimmy's Charhouse offered us good choices for both. I got the fettuccine alfredo and it was HUGE. I think it could serve 2-3 people. The pasta was really good as well. My boyfriend got a bacon cheeseburger and it was huge, and a decent price for the size he got. Good service, nothing special, but overall the experience was great. We can't wait to go back again.

We did not have reservations but called on the way. Did not have too wait long. The food was very good and so was the service. Unfortunately, one of our group found a long hair in their food. It was handled quickly and efficiently with a new dish made and brought out in a very reasonable amount of time. These things do happen from time to time and it all depends on the way it is handled, They were apologetic and professional, the food and service was good and we enjoyed our evening. We will go back and recommend the restaurant.

My family and I love going here. Not just for the amazingly good food but also for the great staff. Coree is by far the greatest waitress ever! Ask to be seated with her but get there early because her table requests fill up fast! Coree makes every dinning experience even better with her great personality and attention to our every need. We have had a few other servers as well and they have been great too, but Coree is by far our favorite! Thanks Coree for being such a great server!

Unfriendly service. This is a Greek restaurant. Had a taste for Greek chicken with Greek potatoes. Waitress said, They didn't make Greek potatoes, had to settle for fries. Brought it to the managers attention and she got pretty defensive. Her response was, the reason they don't offer Greek potatoes because it takes a while to prepare them. I don't call it service. These people are in the wrong business

On the plus side they have great happy hour specials in the bar. 5-6 Monday to Friday. 1 free appetizer per person with a drink order. Only a couple of appetizers are worth trying, the three best ones are the quesadilla, onion rings and the meat balls. The other options are meh... especially the mushroom caps. Plus they have happy hour drink specials. We went on a tuesday for $5 margaritas. After the free appetizers where gone, i decided to order some crab cakes. For $10 i got 4 greasy IMITATION KRAB cakes. I was very disappointed, that they would try and push fake krab as crab cakes. I mean this is a steakhouse and not McD's. Not even 4 margaritas could mask the nastiness of the fake Krab cakes or the poor service... Our waitress seemed like she had better things to do then wait on people. At one point i asked for a straw when she brought us our water glasses. Instead of her returning with one, another customer at the bar, who over heard me ask, brought us some. Also she liked to let our empty drink glasses pile up on the table. we would have to move our drink glasses around, so she could put the food down, and she would walk way leaving them behind. if i ever end up back there and have the same waitress i will just walk out. Yes she was that bad.. The only time she smiled is when she brought our bill.

Aside from the strip-mall location, Jimmy's aint half bad. Thanks Yelpers for directing me to this one! I ordered a roast pork entree and let me tell you, there was so much food I got two more meals out of it. And it was good food too! The pork was really tender and juicy! For $10, you cant beat it! One good thing was the decor inside was pretty great, a lot of old world decorations, a brick fireplace and wood paneled ceilings. Once you were inside you would never know you were in a strip mall in Libertyville. If you are out this way and have no idea where to go for dinner, definitely give Jimmy's a shot.

The first thing that comes to mind about my visit to Jimmy's is "you get what you pay for." I have to take one star away for Jimmy's being located in a strip mall. I know that Libertyville is suburban hell, but I will never get used to dining next to a dollar store. As a matter of fact, they should probably change their name to "A Pretty good steak for a strip mall". Ok, enough with the bashing of Suburbia. The decor on the inside is nice. And it's the best $25 dollar steak that I have ever eaten. The New York strip was tasty, and the Garlic, mashed potato's were good. Our server did a nice job and was quite helpful with explaining the Menu. It's just unfortunate that Jimmy's is out in the middle of B.F.E. It's the type of place that I can see myself going back to.

We ordered wood-roasted Grecian chicken and was satisfied with the way it cooked.. It was crispy outside and juicy inside also the lemon garlic sauce was delicious. Service was also good. Our server Jeff was very attentive. I would go back for their another entree.

Hint to cook: if the top of the bread is actually so charred it is *black,* don't put it on the counter, ring the bell and yell "Order up!" Maybe consider starting over with a new loaf. Oh, right... *Char* House. I get it. Hint to waitress: when two people in a party order *exactly the same thing,* go ahead and write "x2" on your little pad next to that first order. That way when two people switch their side dish to the garlic mashed potatoes, one of them won't be disappointed by cold french fries instead. Hint to group lunch: even if you are the only group - heck, even if you're the only customers - you probably want to allot at least 90 minutes for your lunch. You're not even going to see your soup for 45. HInt to guy who writes the menu: "Caesar Salad" actually has a definition, and it's not iceberg lettuce + green pepper rings + slab of mealy tomato + Miracle Whip/ranch dressing secret sauce. Hint to vegetarians: there is nothing for you here. Go somewhere else.

We were a party of 6, celebrating a birthday on 9/8/2013, and had a wonderful experience! Our server, Courtney, was excellent, attentive and friendly. We started with saganaki, with the "fireworks" starting the party off in a great way. Several people started with the onion soup gratinee, and declared it delicious. The salads were crisp. The peppercorn crusted filet with real garlic mashed potatoes and broccoli was absolute perfection. It had been a while since we had dined at Jimmy's, but we will be back again. From the greeting at the door, to the upscale casual atmosphere, to the delicious food, and great service, you can't expect more from a restaurant. A great place to celebrate or just enjoy a great meal.

Yummy for mah tummeeee! My coworker and I came here while in the general area on business and we were so thankful that we did! Customer Service: WE LOVED OUR LADY WAITRESS! Sadly, my silly butt cannot recall her name anymore! She was more than pleasant, attentive and it felt as if we had known her for longer than our short visit there. Ambiance: It felt a little 80's country down home kitsch to me, but I liked it. Food: TASTY! We noticed as we came in that there was an anniversary special on the price of a couple of their dishes, one of which was the 6 ounce steak and 6 ounce lobster. After perusing the menu, neither one of us could get the killer temporary price of $16.95 out of our heads and we both decided on the steak and lobster. We both devoured our steak and lobster, which we both received made exactly how we had ordered them. The lobster was not some gourmet amazing lobster tail, but it was lobster and well, you can't go too wrong with lobster, period! :) We also had a buffalo wing appetizer which was really tasty. nothing to go crazy over, but they were DEFINITELY good and I recommend trying them. The complimentary bread and butter that they give to you, was unfortunately not tasty to me at all, it was too powdery on the outside and was just bland. Value: We had gotten our hands on a 15% off coupon from the Hampton Inn we were staying at nearby and that coupled with the $16.95 deal on our main dish was MORE than worth the money even with the glasses of wine and the appetizer included.

I used to go here a lot when I was younger and lived near the place. I remembered it to be much better. They must have lost a bit of their touch over the years, but when my mom and dad said they wanted to take us out to dinner and they choose this place, how does one say no to a steak dinner? Waiter was friendly and attentive, and knew all about the wine list, and recommended a bunch of different wines. My meal came out in a timely fashion, but the strip steak was....weird. It was steaming hot and very tough; I've never had a steak that hot even directly off of my own grill. The heat and toughness made me think that perhaps it was done early and they reheated it in the microwave, or it was late and they flashed it in the microwave, or they screwed up the first one and had to redo it real quick...in the microwave. There was no pink in the steak. Additionally it was extremely bland like it wasn't spiced or marinated in the slightest. The garlic mashed potatoes were awesome and the vegetables were cooked well. I would give them perhaps one more shot in the near future if I'm up there again. I just remember it being so much better 5 or 6 years ago.

Great quality and service for the price! Took our son here for an early dinner after graduating from boot camp in Great Lakes. This is not an over-the-top fancy restaurant, but rather a place where you can get a very nice meal for $20-$30 per person (without wine). I had the Filet Mignon medallions trio, and they were very tender, almost like butter. Others had the NY strip and the rib eye. All were tender, and cooked perfectly to medium rare. Soups were not too salty, which is always a plus, and my son enjoyed the fact that the vegetables were "steamed, and still had some life in them." The decor was nice, like slightly upscale, but homey, and the service was attentive. I'd go again if I was in the area.

Came here on a business lunch. I liked the overall feel of the restaurant: components of the mom and pop type restaurant without it being too commercial. I had a steak burger (ordered medium well, but came out medium rare... but that's okay). The fries that came with were too plain for my taste. I ended up sharing some of the ribs, which were really good though. I'd come back and give Jimmy's another try.

Bartender tried to pull a fast one over billed drink order, and then tried a twist on words to get me to eat it. Nothing like a business trying to rob you on Christmas especially when you are alone. Will never return.

I brought my family here today for a pre-mothers day late lunch. The atmosphere is really nice. Too bad the food wasn't as good. First of all, what type of steak house doesn't serve baked potato at 1:30 in the afternoon? We were told that they were not served until dinner. Overall, everyone thought the steaks were overpriced for the quality and taste of them. They were not bad by any means, but they were absolutely bland in flavor. We should have taken note of this because of A1 on the tables. No respectful steak house brings this out without it having been requested. All in all, it was not a bad meal, but not close to what we expected.

I've been going to Jimmy's for years, ever since I found it through a Rewards Dinning program. We really like the friendly atmosphere there, you might want to call it an Old School type of restaurant. They always have great specials and free apps during the week, plus if there is some sort of holiday or sporting event, they will usually put our a small buffet in the bar; and the bartenders are the best anywhere. They are friendly, attentive and make you feel right at home. So if you want anything from a burger to lamb chops (my fav) or fish, go to Jimmy's, you be glad you did.

My friend and have been going to Jimmys for many years and are extremely disappointed with our last visit. We felt confident in taking a vistor for a nice steak dinner, but came away very disenchanted and wondering if we will ever go back. We all ordered steaks and all were dry and tasteless. Based on previous visits, we were expecting fresh, crisp and tasty vegetables, but were all served limp and overcooked carrots & brocolli. The dinner salads were pitiful and hardly worth the effort to bring them out. For the first time ever, the bread was even stale. If we wouldn't have had a visitor along we would have complained. Its sad when the best part of the meal is the ice water.

Jimmy's offers some really good food at reasonable prices with large portions. First is I can get 1.5 lbs of calamari for $10 and really I dont need anything else. The rest of the menu is pretty standard for a steak place; steaks, pork, chicken, pasta, burgers, and a few salads. The only adventuresome item is the calves liver. I like that they have a wood oven for some items. Inside is dimly lit and usually busy but they can normally handle large groups quite well. Also this is not a high end "steakhouse" so dont expect any aged beef product, just high quality beef. As a side note to the review that knocked this place down a star because it is in a strip mall, uh, that does not make sense. But because of that I will now drop all of my Chicago restaurants down 1 star because getting to the city is a pain in the ass and I have to pay for parking.

Phenomenal rotisserie chicken. It is purely divine. I took my wife, daughter and aunt there this Friday. They seated us in a half hour. You know its good went there is a thirty minute wait. I do not mind a thirty minute wait, because the time you leave and go somewhere else its about the same time, and then you go to a less busy place and the food is terrible. At Jimmys the servers where accommodating, the people were nice, the food was excellence, and the bread at the table was hot and fresh. I recommend giving them a try! You will love it.

Ate here the other day for grandpa's 93rd birthday. They were very accommodating for my loud and obnoxious family but the service was pretty sub-bar. Granted we probably weren't the easiest table to work with but it took several requests to get what we wanted. I ordered a KC strip steak that I think could have come from Jewel's $2.50 freezer section. My wife had the broiled Salmon but was very dry and lacked flavor. Perhaps the salmon could have been saved if the sauce she ordered arrived before she finished the meal. I did snag a rib from grandpa's plate that were pretty tasty. So my advice is to stick with the ribs if you choose Jimmy's Charhouse.

I've been here on several occasions over the course of eight or nine years, and the service has been consistent every time (save for the liquor service -- more on that in a bit). I love that the place is dark (good for romantic dinners), and during the winter there is a welcoming fireplace near the entrance. Food portions are huge, so you generally go home with leftovers. Dishes/Items I love: + Shrimp de Jonghe + Crab Cakes + Mashed cauliflower topped with cheddar cheese + Wood Roasted Grecian Chicken + Rotisserie Roasted Pork (and I don't even really eat pork... the stuffing is really good) The one gripe I have is that whenever we've ordered a martini and specifically requested Grey Goose vodka, we are always served what we assume to be the house vodka. I am by no means a vodka expert, but I've had Grey Goose enough to know that it doesn't smell like rubbing alcohol (or produce the involuntary stinky face reaction). On more than one occasion, we've ordered Grey Goose and were served the house vodka. Sent it back for a replacement and again, it was the house vodka. Sent it back a third time and still more rubbing alcohol. We should NOT pay extra for premium vodka and be served something else! So my advice on this is to order your drink(s) at the bar so you can witness the pouring of the premium vodka. Although, to be honest, I don't think there are any guarantees even with this. Three stars total because of the numerous ordeals concerning the vodka.

I was actually at the one in Algonquin area off Randall Road and 90 a few times. The calamari here (surprisingly for a char house) is the best around. Not rubbery or tough and the breading is light...all three times the same and top-notch for this area. I've gotten the ribs once and they were quality, but nothing to say, "Holy sh*t these are great!" or anything. I've ordered the Strip Steak and it was a nicely prepared steak how I asked for it. The cesar salad is good as well. Kids you say?? My girlfriend's 10 year old son loves the place, the kids choices fill him up and no complaints, he actually tried the calamari there the first time and wants it all the time when we go out now, anywhere!! So 4 stars here kids.....

Went there recently on a Sunday evening and sat in the bar area with 2 friends. We ordered the calamari as an app. It was really good, however it took approx. 25 minutes for us to receive it. We asked our server why it was taking so long, and she said the kitchen was slammed. But, the table next to us ordered their meal at about the same time as when we order our app., and they received their meal BEFORE we got our app. Frustrating. Also, even though our food was very good, once again they did not get my order right. For at least the third consecutive time I have been there, I ordered the bone-in ribeye from the specials menu. The last two times it was supposed to come with mushrooms. This time, grilled onions. ALL three times I did not get my mushrooms or onions with my meal. A big deal? Not really, but don't advertise it if you're not going to serve it. Finally, remember I said they were slammed early in our meal experience. Well, they cut our server during our meal, thus it was difficult to get refills, dessert, etc. in a timely fashion. Again, the food was very good, but the timing and service was quite lacking this time around. I have been to Jimmy's many, many times, and this was one of my most disappointing visits.

We had high hopes when we went to Jimmy's Charhouse for the first time. We love to eat out and while we prefer our home charbroiled steaks to most restaurant ones, this menu looked really interesting online. We were quite disappointed. The atmosphere was great; we liked the booth seating, the decor, the lighting, the music and the overall vibe of the place. Kind of "old school" Steak and Ale or similar moderately upscale steak house from back in the day is how I would describe the atmosphere. The hostess was pleasant, on time and whisked us right in. You know how sometimes experienced, older waittresses and waiters have that kind of fun, sarcastic "whatcha gonna have" attitude? Ours had that attitude all right but it was no schtick. You could just tell she didn't want to be there. The big SIGH when we wanted to look at the wine list before giving her a drink order. The finger tapping on her pen while we pondered our menu choices. I guarantee you she rolled her eyes when she turned away after taking our order. She was efficient enough, but she wasn't enjoying herself and she didn't help us to enjoy ourselves. The house salad could not be more boring. Nothing but chopped iceberg with a sprinkle of diced tomatoes and bland dressing. The bread was not warm, nor soft, nor tasty. It was just as boring as the salad. I ordered a Prime Ribeye Steak, medium rare. It came on a sizzling hot metal platter (which I love -- nothing worse than cold steak.) But the steak was blue rare - by that I mean cold on the inside and seared on the outside. The waittress was polite about having it cooked some more, but it meant that my wife had to eat her meal while I waited for mine to come out several minutes later. Anyhow, there was NOTHING prime about the Prime Ribeye Steak. It was rather tough, had not much flavor and was just below average all the way around. The smattering of vegetables - carrots and broccoli - were just fine, steamed with no seasoning. The garlic mashed potatoes were average. My wife had the Chicken Oscar - supposedly one of their special dishes. The portion was huge but the "crab" (if that is what it was) was just a mushy gob of unidentifiable origin slopped on top of a breaded, flattened chicken breast. She had to scrape it all off just to make the chicken edible. We didn't eat even 1/3 of either of our entrees and yet the waittress never questioned us as to "was everything all right?" We took it home but doubt if we will even eat it for lunch as it just has bad memories for us. If we were to go again, we would probably just hit the bar for some appetizers as we have heard that is a better option. But we've had our last dinner here.

Jimmy's is a pretty solid restaurant. Food is good, but I don't think it's amazing. As others have mentioned, their portions are enormous. I wish they were smaller. The pasta especially. I don't know how anyone could eat that much pasta in one sitting. I don't think I've ever finished a meal here. The service is great in general, but they're pretty good at accommodating large groups. It is pretty dark inside. The parking situation is not that great. They have valet sometimes during the lunch and dinner hours.

You can't tell a book by its cover.....A welcome atmosphere with a place to have a drink, and then enjoy a great meal. Bring your appetite as portions are large and if you can't finish, make a great second meal. I favorite the baby back ribs with the garlic mashed potatoes.

Ok. A few things about this place, it has ridiculous feed a family portions especially if you get pasta. But the food has never blow me away here. The atmosphere inside is a bit too dark for my liking. Not a bad place, just not spectacular.

An excellent eating establishment, though I've only eaten in the bar area and had drinks. It's great unless people blowing smoke in your food bothers you. In that case, get your food to go. There's an old guy at the bar who talks through a hole in his neck from smoking. He's there every single day. He is awesome. The drinks are strong and the food is good. What more do you need?

I carry out from here on a somewhat regular basis. Now I am a huge fan of a big piece of red meat but if that's what you want.....this may not be your first choice. Everything is good but the steaks are not Chicago steak house steaks if you know what I mean. Their other dishes are creative and worthy. The chicken breast Al Forno (signature topping) is out of this world with the garlic mashed taters. the sandwhiches are also very good and the sirloin salad is great too. Overall it is a nice place and the food is good and resonably priced.

I went to Jimmy's at the recommendation of my boss , and he has maintained his restaurant credibility. I really liked this place , from decor to food to service , aces across the board. This place looks like I would imagine the finest Chicago steakhouse to look , or at least it's finest suburban clone would. I do have to note this is not the like highest level of Steakhouses , I can tell that from it's prices. There are no aged steaks , no ala carte menu , no raw steak presentation. The server and host were both great , as well as most other wait staff that would just happen by. The menu selection was fairly wide and the daily specials sounded great. I got the broiled Sea scallops on a bed of garlic spinach , and it was really good. We also ordered the fried calamari which wasn't as crispy as I would have liked (except for the tentacles which were great) , but it was very flavorful and tender , good. The wife ordered the rotisserie chicken , which she thought was really good. The son got the absolutely huge 10 oz. bacon cheeseburger , and he loved it. The Mother got a good looking order of roast pork , she said it was very good. I ordered the sirloin and Lobster , The steak was good , a little under seasoned but done perfectly. The lobster was on par with some of the best I've had. The reasonable prices were the cherry on top , as far as I'm concerned , four fully grown folks eating like kings for a hair over a hundred , you just can't beat that. I have to try some other food here that I have my eye on , and if it is as good as what I just had , we might just be talking 5 stars. ... Another group gathering brings another great experience. All the workers there were really friendly and extremely diligent. The shrimp dejong was really good , the pork kabobs were good , the crab cakes were alright (although the mother really liked them). I really liked my rib eye but again had a seasoning problem , nothing some salt couldn't fix. I heard good things about the lamb chops and the porterhouse but didn't get to try them. Really the only thing holding this place back from 5 stars now is that the way they season their meat doesn't jive with my taste. A little more salt and were talking near perfection.

I went with a group of 5 on a Friday night. The decor was fine, it was busy but not uncomfortably busy and the server was professional and proper. But the kitchen had a bad night and it was all very simple things. One of the wine glasses was grungy dirty on the outside and had to be sent back full of wine. I ordered stuffed scallops, which were very bland. The menu said they came with garlic mash and they came out with a mediocre rice pilaf that was just taking up space on the plate. My son order the 34 oz Porterhouse, which was a beautiful piece of meat but absolutely devoid of seasoning. None. No salt, no pepper, no butter to finish. They threw the piece of meat on the grill, cooked it perfectly to medium rare and simply didn't season it. My other son order the fillet medallion trio and his medallions were over seasoned and the flavors overwhelmed the meat. I wasn't paying so I didn't gripe too much but it wouldn't have taken much effort to make this a better dining experience.

The food was actually pretty tasty. My problem with this restaurant was the service. Seriously. When you upsell me to an upgraded salad, you should tell me that you are charging $3.00 extra for the 3 olives and slice of feta cheese that make it a greek salad. (One of my fellow diners got a Caesar salad, which was a $2.00 additional charge.) Three dollars is not a big deal, but it's the principle of the matter. It wasn't stated on the menu, either. They brought me the wrong food, and when I realized, I said that if it was going to take a long time to re-cook the pork, I would be happy to switch my order to something quick like a chicken sandwich so that I could eat with my friends, but she insisted that it was probably at the kitchen counter and she had just taken the wrong plate. Well, she went over to the kitchen, and my dish was not there. She was speaking with another server about it at that point. I lost track of what was happening for a minute, but then I see that other server returning toward the kitchen from another part of the restaurant with a plate of food on her tray. I distinctly hear my server say, "Is that mine?" and she brings the plate over to the table. I suspect that my meal was served to me from someone else's table. There was also a suspicious-looking dent in the mashed potatoes (although the main part of the entree was clearly untouched). I gave the waitress the benefit of the doubt and picked at the pork, but when you go out to eat, you shouldn't have any reason to suspect that your food is not coming directly from the kitchen to your table. I won't be going back.

I recently went here for my mother's birthday(8-3-07). I must say, I was not thrilled it was DARK and my food was decent, but not as good as everybody said ,it would be. The portion size was great. The atmosphere was kind of bland. Although, the servers were great. Maybe, I will give them a another try when I have a larger crowd?
