Let me start off by saying that I am kind of picky. Okay, I am very picky. Just a fact. I was concerned that I wouldn't find a catering company to appease my guests unfortunate food allergies and dislikes. I hired Kathy and On Occasion for my best friend's 50th birthday party to be held in my home. As aforementioned, I had reservations because of the many requests that I had. Not only did Kathy go over a detailed menu with me, full of many options, but she also allowed four of us to come for a tasting to make sure that it was suitable. She really went well above and beyond was appropriate and I truly appreciated it. The food that night was absolutely delicious. We had many different dishes and desserts and not one of them disappointed. Some of the really delicious dishes we had were pulled pork with whiskied onions, shaved tenderloin on parmesan crisps with carmelized onion and Dijon crème fresh, eggplant crisps with mozzarella and roasted tomatoes, a gorgeous bruschetta cascade with all kinds of grilled vegetables and crostinis and the list goes on. We also had some mouth watering desserts. Some stand outs were the selection of bars (lemon, raspberry, pecan with multiple cream cheese dips) and the chocolate dipped macaroons. But seriously, nothing was short of delicious. The quality of all the food was so fresh and it really made a huge difference. Kathy made sure everything was served at the right temperatures and I swear my kitchen was cleaner when she left than when she got there. I will not hesitate to recommend her and her company to anyone interested in a party from 20-200 people. Thanks On Occasion for help making the party such a huge success!!!
On Occasion Catered our family Christmas party of about 30 people this year. Kathy offered several different menu's of seasonal gourmet food. Everyone loved the grilled pear salad with fig nectar vinaigrette and rustic Italian vegetables were a delight. Sliced beef tenderloin was perfectly cooked and rivaled only by her chocolate torte with caramel and sea salt which had the entire room buzzing. They provided high end chaffing dishes and Kathy stayed, helped slice the tenderloin and assured that everything went smoothly before she snuck off without intruding. I highly recommend their food and service.
It doesn't get any better than this!! If you are looking for anything from a wedding to a rehearsal to brunch, On Occasion can handle it all. Handle it they did...we hired Kathy for my daughters bridal shower and wedding dessert table and her wedding cake and morning after brunch. Kathy was able to create the best tasting desserts as well as the best brunch. It was the best I have ever had. The desserts were to die for, the wedding cake was spectacular, the brunch was outstanding!! It was not only great tasting, but the presentation was terrific. Kathy was able to create a beautiful table that guests are still raving about. Kathy is great to work with and will listen to your needs and help to ease any stress. she handles it all.... It not only tasted good but the presentation is fabulous. Look no further

What can I say if you are an old school Pollock they make this sweet horseradish pickles that are out of this world we just bought a case and this triple threat mustard stuff that is sweet and tangy and great on sandwiches I just did it on a turkey and turned out amazing in the oven and marinated it in it they will ship or deliver and this vendor has been stopping by my friends location for decades he is always more than fair will let you taste anything on his truck and usually throws in a couple items for free I will keep coming back to him just on the way he treats his clientele old school values with great product give it a shot
Deli Direct has come into my life and changed everything. I now come here at least once a month. It's tucked away in an industrial park which makes it a little difficult to find. This is the place you go before you have company over. It has cheeses, dips, sausages, candies, sauces, "rocket radish", pickles, and many other things that people at your house will be talking about. I went over to my brothers one day and he busted out this horseradish cheese dip. I took one bite and I was hooked. I grab the container, spun it around and it read Lake Zurich on it. Couple days later I was in the store and stocking up. Everything is good here. I know on Saturdays they bust out a table full of everything so you can sample. There is endless options with what you can do with their products. Come here and be changed into a believer. Make sure you try the "rocket radish"...
The staff here is the friendliest around. Very helpful suggestions on how to use their products with many items out for you to sample. A lot of the same products you'll pay twice as much for in a specialty store. Highly recommend the Perky Pickles, cheese spreads (especially the asiago), and all of the dip packs.

Pupusita Express

Reviews:
Very friendly and helpful staff. The tamales are great!
I found Pupusita's quite by accident on Yelp. It is hidden in the back end of a strip mall behind Luke's. The reviews here were fantastic, so I decided to give it a try. I had never even heard of a pupusa but what the heck. I kind of chuckled at their menu at first because they must have felt compelled to present "American" offerings such as Cobb Salads, chicken wings and chicken tenders along with the authentic Central American pupusas and pasteles. OK, so I orderted the wings since they were offered. Well I wasn't chuckling after tasting them, they were actually fantastic. And the Yelp picture of their Cobb Salad looks amazing, I'm going to have to try that too. But the real reason to come here is the pupusas and (especially IMO) pasteles. People really seem to like the tamales, but I can't comment on those since I am just not really a tamale fan. The dinner comes with two mix and match of any of the above mentioned items with delicious homemade beans and rice and a vinegary slaw that complements the heaviness of the other food very well. Everything is made to order, so your take-out order will not be speedy (unless you call in advance), but it will be delicious. One thing I tried that I really didn't care for (and this actually really surprised me) was the guacamole. I expected it to be first rate, but it wasn't good at all IMO. I don't know if they don't sell that much, but it seemed like they saturated the avocado with vinegar or something acidic perhaps to keep it green. I don't know, but it was reminiscent of supermarket guac which is not on my list of fave foods. I won't take away a star, though, I just won't personally order it again. Mmmm, I am stuck at home right now but I would stuff myself with their food right now if I had the chance.
The pupusas and tamales were phenomenal! Can't believe such an authentic place exists in Lake Zurich. This is a must try! Highly recommend both kinds of Horchata and the plantains w/ condensed milk. So different and delicious! We will be eating here again soon.

Sake Sushi and Grill

Reviews:
My boyfriend and I were looking to try a sushi place in our hometown of Barrington, and after checking the reviews on Yelp... decided maybe not so much. I noticed all the wonderful reviews for Sake Sushi, we tried it. I'm still relatively new to the whole sushi thing, so I was nervous - I shouldn't have been! I know, it's next to a Walmart in a tiny strip mall, but the sushi was amazing!!! It's BYOB (which we haven't taken advantage of yet), and the first time we easily managed to spend $120 on sushi and a bottle of sake. We ended up ordering 4 - 5 rolls a piece and a couple for takeout for his twin, because it was SO GOOD! We went back a week or so later with the brother, and spend $104. My favorite were there Jalapeno Popper Roll (it was a special - they're only on the board when you walk in, so make sure you look!), and the Caribbean roll. My boyfriend liked the Spider roll (which was good) and the Dragon roll. Really, there were so many that were good it's hard to remember and make distinctions. There was only one I didn't like, and it was one that Curtis loved, so go figure. I LOVED their Miso soup - one of the best I've ever had. It was amazing. I also ordered the Cucumber Salad, and it was exquisite. Writing this review is make me hunger for it right now. Both the nights I went, it was relatively quiet - we were surprised. However, a number of people did come in for takeout during our stay each time. The decor is nice and modern, very pretty and lovely. I could spend probably $20, or $50 per person, it all depends on what you're hungry for and what you feel like ordering (some rolls are more expensive that others). I can't wait to come back again and again and again and again and again... I just need to make sure my boyfriend isn't SUPER hungry first so I can afford to, I could easily spend $75 hear for the two of us each time, haha.
We have been dining here for at least 3 years now. Usually on the weekends. It is a family friendly place. My husband has tried most of the rolls and has been satisfied. I usually order the seafood soup which is chockful of shrimp, salmon and scallop. I also like their salmon skin roll which is not on the menu. My 5 year old always orders their teriyakis(steak, shrimp, scallop, salmon). Good homecooked food!
Delicious, nice atmosphere, and BYOB : D Wish the servings were a little bigger though.

Our favorite fast food. OK...it's a tie with Taco Bell. OK...a 3-way with White Castle...but don't let those last two diminish my (or Culver's) credibility. Fresh and delicious burgers, great fries, good deal, clean joint.
We come here every year when we visit family. The burgers are delicious and the custard is to die for. They make a great concrete mixer (custard and candy) and are super friendly. It is very clean. Wish we had this place at home.
every time i'm in the midwest, i always have to have my doze of culvers. it just so happens that this is usually the location i go to. i love how culvers always brings the laid back fast food experience. why do i say that? because there are a lot of people sitting inside and eating with their friends and families (which generally don't happen at fast food joints). great food and friendly service! how i wish we had culvers in the west coast. i'm in love with butter burgers and cheese curds! oh, and the custards/frozen yogurts/shakes are tasty too!

what a fish taco!! i mean it! me and my fam LOVE this place. whenever we want to surprise my dad we pick up some fish tacos for him for dinner (as their cafe is only open for lunch). ive also had the bisque and the crab cakes and goodness are they amazing! esp that monster crab cake. only bummer is the cafe is only open till 2. this is one of the only affordable AND healthy AND delicious places to eat in lake zurich and their limited hours are a real kicker!
Check your receipt. They have a chalkboard with prices, but I've been overcharged for items on three separate occasions (by $1/lb for scallops, $2/lb for king crab, and $1/lb for sea bass). It looks like the folks type in the prices by hand on the register, so either they're not paying attention or they do this often. After the third over-charge, I no longer shop there. Prices were too high in the first place without being overcharged on top of things. Too, for a mom-and-pop store, "pop" is not particularly friendly. Attitude and demeanor is a big part of a small business, and this place just doesn't have it.
Place small with dry fish on display and no price tags. Lunch is very expensive and not good quality. I do not understand the good reviews, the place is average at best. Did I go to different place???

D & J Bistro

What a great French bistro! We went there over the Labor Day weekend. The foie gras was cooked to perfection - crunchy on the outside and juicy on the inside, plus the sauce was in perfect balance. Beef tartar was another delicious starter. Main dishes were great and didn't disappoint, especially the July duck and steak Diane. I also really liked the sweetbread dish but it's not for everyone :) Thank goodness there were four of us and I got to taste 4 different deserts. It would torturous to select just 1! Knowing what I know now, if I had to choose only one desert, it would be the soft almond meringue with hazelnut praline layer - to die for!
Don't let the strip mall location fool you! This place is a diamond in the rough! I hadn't been here before, and I was part of a large party. And, of course, I'm gluten free (*sigh* I try really hard not to be the difficult one, but here I am...). I mentioned to the server that I am gluten free, and he said that he would talk to the chef to ask which items were safe. To my surprise, most of the items selected on the fixed menu were gluten free already! He was very informative and went line by line down the menu, informing me of which items were safe and which were to be avoided. I was served a homemade sorbet for dessert, and the biggest surprise of all was that they brought out gluten free bread with my soup! People, I ate BREAD at a restaurant with SOUP - two things that rarely happen!! The hostess (owner?) also assured me that they could accommodate any dietary restriction and was very helpful. I had a wonderful, stress-free meal because of the fantastic staff. Thank you!!
A couple of my relatives in the NW suburbs recommended this French "bistro." We went with another couple and despite the service being really attentive and cordial, all four of us were underwhelmed by the food especially at the premium prices for a strip mall establishment. The main complaints: the soft-crab appetizer special tasted way too fishy so we had to sauce it up. The rib-eyes were a little tough and chewy. The braised goat special was saved by a decent sauce but you take your chances, you know. The bread and desserts were good enough to avoid the one star rating.

Scoreboard Bar & Grill

I am torn with this place. It is a good dive bar. The food is really good for a bar. I have never had a bad meal here. The bar itself needs a face lift and the setup is such that you sometimes are subjected to the drunk regulars having an argument. That doesn't really bother me but it might some. The staff is very good and again, you should stop in for a cheeseburger.
We have been living in the the Lake Zurich/Barrington area for years and started frequenting Scoreboard just last year. The food is outstanding, burgers, pizza, wings, nachos, etc. Prices are very reasonable and they have specials on different nights. Best Bloody Mary ever...it is like having a salad in your drink. Quite impressive for a small town bar. Don't expect an updated state of the art type of bar but it is very clean and the service is excellent. Great place to meet friends to watch a ball game and lots of fun, drinks and good food. BTW...there is a small outside patio for those great summer nights.
Small neighborhood joint with maybe 10 tables and a large bar. Food was good ($8 - $10 for a burger and fries), just nothing overly special. We had the potato skin appetizer, that was just OK - certainly not made on site. Tap beer was inexpensive, with a decent selection of craft beers. Our service was friendly, but slow, and the place was only about 1/3rd full. Certainly wouldn't avoid the place, and had the service been better it would warrant 4 stars, but there's a lot of places where you can get a decent burger a beer for $10

This has become my go-to Starbucks on the way to my mom's. The drive thru lines can get long nearly any time of day. If you're like me and getting a single simple coffee, it can be a bit frustrating to be stuck behind a giant SUV-driving soccer mom with a laundry list of specially ordered frappuccinos. I mean, not to hate here, but if you see a line o' cars, it may be better to hoof it inside. I've been in the drive thru twice before and have had my drink comped for me: once for a REALLY long line, and once when I actually had to go back inside because they forgot to add the soy to my drink. Of course I would never ask for such a thing: they just did it and were extremely friendly and apologetic for delays. They staff is VERY friendly and VERY thorough: when I ask for ___ number of sugars in my coffee, they ask if I want Sugar in the Raw or regular granulated. Awe-some! Having worked customer service myself, I know how tough it can be to maintain that smile when customers are a bit over-the top or the workload gets extremely stressful. They pull it off nicely here! :) Rock on, Lake Zurich S'bux!
Majority of the staff is great but they always screw up my drink the only reason I still go is because it's right next to my work. I don't get anything complicated I get an ice tea
Walk-in distance from my home. I like to take kids there for treat. No waiting lines, always empty tables to seat.
