We moved to the area from Seattle 2+ years ago and we've been searching for a good Mexican restaurant. Finally we found one. Great nachos (real cheese, including cotija, guacamole, and black beans by request), chicken and steak fajitas (flavorful and not oily, as can often be the case), veggie burrito for my vegetarian wife, quesadillas for the kids, and a few cocktails (raspberry margaritas and sangria...maybe a bit too much ice). Our server was polite and attentive. We've got a winner!

Awesome place!!! I have been going here since it opened and I've never had a bad meal. The place is a gem in northern Lake County, IL right on Grand Avenue (Rte. 32) just a tad west of the Lake Villa Library. The steak taco salad (medium on the steak) is my favorite. However, their cheeseburgers are the best I have ever had in my life!!!

So I heard this place was good so I decided to give it a try. . Food was excellent. Service not so great. We got there about 8:35 pm there main business hours sign said closing at 10pm mind you online website as well. . We went in sat down. Realized there was a contradicting sign on the glass door typed by management saying new hours closing at 9pm. Still there 35 mins before closing time we were served & that was about it .. the employees were to worried about closing so never go before closing time. I couldn't even get a refill with out calling for my server.

I've been dreaming about the cream of spinach soup since my first visit here. It ain't sexy, but there it is! I guess I may be setting your visit up for failure though, since the cream of spinach soup is not a regular item on the menu. And it's an odd find for a Mexican restaurant, no? But it was just so yummy and silky smooth! It was offered complimentary, but it was so delicious, I ordered another to go for lunch the next day. Their chicken vegetable was tasty also. Yeah, I'm a soup girl. Guess what? They do have more than just soup here. ;) The salsa was great! I ordered a special that day, verde cruz chicken and it was 2 delicious, juicy char grilled chicken breasts simmered in a kind of chorizo/portabello mushroom/onions/capers sauce served with rice and beans and tortillas. My husband enjoyed his enchiladas and the taco he sampled. I LOVED my iced tea, uniquely flavored, almost like a very subtle chai, and the horchata my husband had was yummy, too, natch. :) We were impressed with the entrees, the freshness, the attentive service, inexpensive pricing and the overall potential for this new restaurant, especially in an area kinda lacking in unique, non-chain and tasty options. It's a cute little restaurant in an average strip mall (the old Scott's Dogs building before its sad closing) close to the Duck Farm Dog Exercise Area that my dog terrorizes occasionally (sorry!), and the Lake Villa Library. The interior, though colorful, could use a little warming up to make it less stark and more cozy in my opinion but I'm really nitpicking here and that may come with time anyway. They are open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. I think we will try some breakfast options this weekend. Chilaquilles and biscuits and gravy, here we come! Funny, right? Can they do the b&g with chorizo?? Oooh, interesting! Looking forward to trying more items over time and I could really see upping this to 5 stars but I don't want to jinx it.

Meh- I'm pretty sure I watched a guy handle money then handle my food. Makes me nervous about sanitary conditions. Food was fair at best. The portions are generous, but I would prefer higher quality fresher ingredients. They are trying~ which is something. There is better in Round Lake and there is worse just about everywhere. This is simply just.....ok.

I love to go to a restaurant with truly authentic food and this is one of them. The chicken mole is a very difficult dish and this place killed it! Servers were attentive and professional plus they carry a full range of drinks! A little difficult to access parking lot.

Went for a great breakfast this morning. First, they were open on New Years Day! Yah! Second, the service was great. Victor was genuine and delightful. Something lacking in wait staff these days! Third, great coffee!!!! My only complaint is there seating is kinda sketchy, but what are Ya gonna do..... I'll go back for sure!

The chips and salsa were good, kind of an odd decor as well and menu. Seems like they are trying to do both american and mexican and are missing quite a bit from both sides. No mexican lunch plates, so you have to order from the dinner side and they have just a few of the standards. I had the chicken enchilades and they were good, the rice and beans seemed like they not made from scratch. My wife had the steak tacos and the meat had a differant seasioning almost like a sage taste, just not our cup of tea. The food was good the price seemed a bit high. I saw they had chiliquiles but for 9$ with no meat was a bit much. If I an in the area I might stop back but getting into the place is quite a round about way

This is really good food! They have much more than just Mexican fare - Burgers, sandwiches, BREAKFAST. I really liked everything I've tried (at least 15 visits now). I had a ham/swiss sandwich made with french toast for brunch once - it was awesome. The fish tacos are excellent. They have a habanero sauce and a green sauce (mild and spicey) that are perfect. I really can't say enough good about the food. In the winter months, they have very good homemade soup and often will offer a cup for free when you order dinner. Potato bacon is really good. The quality of food here is impressive. They tend to have a smaller more specialized menu that they do REALLY good. *Update: I had previously stated the service was pretty hit and miss and downright frustrating at times during their first year open. Well after over almost 2 years open now, they've much improved service. Training and attentiveness are much better. And the help seems much more professional. They had a BIG price increase - like $2 or more per dish. Still acceptable for the food you get but not the great deal it used to be. They updated the interior to include a bar area and redecorated. (thus the price increase?). Also have added a number of new dishes, some of which I've tried and are also very good.

This is a great little Mexican place. It has everything you would expect, except for fajitas. I always get something with steak and it is always melt in your mouth tender. They also have breakfast - with Americana classics! Some of the best pancakes I have ever had! I highly recommend!

Update: Remodel of front is nice, however major raise of prices. Still great food, however not the great deal it uses to be. As well, breakfast, my favorite part of the menu, is only available before 3 now. Reconsidered to 4 starts from 5.

I rarely give three stars as I don't feel it helps my fellow Yelpers in deciding if a place is good or not. However, for the 3 Amigo's I'll make an exception as it is truly in the middle of the road. As in, I've had better and of course I've had a lot worse. The service is average and there is nothing on the menu to make this place unique. Nor is the quality of the food over the top. With that said, if you are looking for a quick, decent meal then this place will do. If I was really in need of Mexican fair, and I was in the area, yes, I'd probably come here. However, I would not drive out of my way.

Visit Three Amigos if you want Mexican food without traveling to Round Lake, or if you want breakfast/brunch without beating the crowds at the family diners. On this visit, I only saw Two Amigos, but I'm sure the third one is around somewhere. The food was better than when I first visited, which was around their grand opening. In addition to the free chips and salsa, I had the three enchiladas with tomatillo sauce: one beef, one chicken, and one cheese. They were all good. The beans and rice were fine (I've had better), but provided decent compliments to the enchilada's. The fried ice cream was so so - kinda tasted like soggy cornflakes. But it was okay. Something I didn't know. . .they serve breakfast. Keep that in mind if you don't want to deal with the crowds at the family restaurants on the weekends. Service was attentive and friendly. My meal: enchiladas, coke, fried ice cream was about $15. The decor needs fixing. The place used to be a hot dog restaurant, and the inside still shows remnants of it: the brightly colored squares near the ceiling that never got painted over, the way the kitchen is open to everything, the standing bar-type table still attached to the windows. . . . And what is with the bar tables with TV's on them? Is that up to code? I just think they took some shortcuts when renovating. And, what WHAT? There are still Christmas decorations on the side windows - that makes me wonder how attentive they are to cleaning. . . . Questionable decor aside, I would go back since it is the closest decent Mexican food to where I live. 3 stars Last visited 6/3/13

I was very happy with my strawberry margarita and shrimp fajitas. Our drinks took a couple minutes longer than expected, but I found out why once our server came out with a margarita made with fresh strawberries! Lots of jumbo shrimp in my dish, and so full of flavor I was rather impressed. Hubby loved the burrito he got. We live very close by so definitely looking forward to going back very soon!

They have done a nice update of the dining room. Food is still the same, but the ambiance is much better.

Excellent food, and very nice service. I had the enchiladas carnitas, and thoroughly enjoyed it. I'll be back.

For whatever reason, I did not expect this place to be a sit-down restaurant...maybe because it was a hot dog place before? Regardless, we arrived and were offered a booth. Note, if you are short you need to rethink the booth. The seats are very squishy and the table will be way higher than you are comfortable with! We ordered bistec and a chicken burrito with guacamole. Chips and salsa came out with our drinks. Entrees were good, but not too thrilled with the rice. Service was good. Drinks and refills arrived promptly. Would return to try something else off the menu.

My wife and I went yesterday for the first time. She had the steak burrito plate and I went with spicy chicken chimichanga. We were both very happy with our food and the service was very good. We will definitely go here again.

This is one of my favorite places to go for brunch - very inexpensive, big portions and very authentic mexican. HIghly recommend the mexican skillet!

I went here on a tip from a friend. I didn't expect much because their location is just a strip mall that's half vacant, but surprisingly their food is excellent! Best Mexican around here. I love their fajitas and enchiladas. Recommend you try this one for yourself for sure!

It's nothing special. Tastes like upscale taco bell. I was not impressed by the instant box mix rice I was served. Service was ok until I got my meal and thats when it got bad. The waitress ignored us and had to be flagged down just to get the check. Absolutely zero ambiance.

This is a really good Mexican restaurant. The menu has lots of things to choose from including different types of meat/poultry fillings for your tacos, enchiladas, burritos, ets. The staff is always attentive and the food rocks. The prices are very reasonalble. Everything I've ever had there was delicious.

Tried this place twice before writing a review. I was impressed both times. I especially liked their nachos and burritos! Friendly service too. You can eat in or take out. Give this place a try!

Food is still pretty good. Service is okay. The changed their menu and raised their prices :(. Although the food is the same making it more expensive is a bummer. 3 Taco plate went from $7.50 to $10 ....kinda a bummer.

Cold beer, chips & salsa, good Mexican food & service was attentive. I ordered the chorizo burrito and it was delicious. Nothing fancy as far as atmosphere but food more than makes up for it.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
