The atmosphere is great. What a nice place to eat just a block from Good's. We went on a Friday night and it was quite busy. Good service with a nice selection of home cooking. We got the spinach & artichoke rangoon for appetizer. It was unique and tasty. For dinner I got 1/2 rack of ribs with the baked potato. I appreciate the butter & sour cream on the side. The baby back pork ribs were cooked perfectly. The BBQ sauce is sweeter than I prefer, but it was good. Dessert was great. Many options but we shared a piece of turtle cheesecake. It was delicious and worth coming back for. Overall a very good dining experience, a pleasant surprise in Kewanee.

Pretty good food. Nice and clean. A little noisy....oh, that was us. We took about 10 family members because we saw an add in a local phone book. Lucky find. The staff did their best to get our large and disorganized group served in a timely manner

The best part of this meal was the rolls served with dinner. THey were light, fluffy and served with sweet whipped butter; it makes my mouth water just thinking about it. I could happy have bought some of these rolls for dinner, and nothing else. Luckily, they were unlimited with the entrees we ordered. The service for dinner was attentive and friendly; breakfast the next day found the waitress (different from the waiter who served as at dinner) MIA for much of the meal. We didn't see the morning waitress for 20 minutes after she brought our drinks, so they were long empty by the time she returned. We ordered standard breakfast of eggs, bacon, hash browns; she was apologetic when she finally showed up with our food after ignoring us, but I still would have liked to have had an update or a refill on my hot cocoa. I'd like to give some other restaurants a try in Kewanee (there are a few nearby), but one thing this place has going for it is location - right next to where the train stops, and 1-2 blocks from Good's. Can't be beat.

The decor in the Station House restaurant in Kewanee pays homage to the golden age of steam trains. The flat screen tv suspended over the cashier station just to your right as you enter plays a continuous video loop of train footage, steam trains driving through the snowy mountain passes of Colorado, through dry brown flatlands... it's every little boy's dream. Continuing the train theme is a bright yellow railroad crossing sign prominently displayed amongst railroad themed pictures and old magazine ads. The food ranges from hearty Midwestern fare (patty melts, fried chicken, pasta, and burgers) to healthier options such as salads. We were visiting Kewanee to watch the Wall Dogs paint a series of 15 wall murals commissioned by the town and met with one of the master mural artists who came all the way from Sonora, CA to work on the murals and she suggested having lunch here. Tyoni was trying to decide if she wanted to order breakfast or lunch as it was only 11:00. She is VERY picky about her sausage gravy and won't eat it if it comes from a can. She asked for a little tasting sample so she could decide and the waitress, Jessica, brought her a little bowl. Unfortunately, the gravy didn't pass the test, she was pretty sure it came. from a can. Judy ordered the Berry Salad with Poppyseed dressing on the side. It was very pretty, the dark blueberries contrasting with the bright red cranberries, the golden orange sections, the green lettuce, and the white slivered almonds. I ordered the slow cooked beef sandwich melt which came on Texas toast with melted cheese and my choice of fries, homemade potato chips, and and several other sides. Tyoni told me that homemade potato chips are a Midwestern classic and that I should order it every chance I get and I did. The chips WERE excellent. The sandwich wasn't bad, certainly qualifying as a comfort food favorite. The beef was very tender, the Texas toast it came on was golden brown, crisp, and buttery, and the cheese not overpowering. This is a nice little restaurant to catch a quick lunch or dinner with a little something for everyone from pasta and fried chicken to burgers and salads. Come check it out if you find yourself in Kewanee.

This place deserves the 3.5 star rating that it currently has. I'm rounding up to 4, given the lack of local choices available in Kewanee. The food, while not spectacular, is on the better side of average. My party ordered steaks with baked potatoes, and an order of mozzarella sticks. Their plates were, as I said, the better side of average. The dinner rolls that come with all orders were warm, soft, and yummy. I had the Berry Salad and "The Burger." The salad was a good find in the sea of carbohydrates that is The Station House - light and delicate. The Burger, which I asked for medium, came well done and tough around the edges of the patty. It still tasted good, but it was a very average burger. We were seated promptly and the waitress was very attentive. Overall, this place provides a solid meal. I'd return next time I find myself in Kewanee.
