It was ok. I think this is one of those places where you have to know how to order. There are some good options on the menu, but there are some pretty bland options too, so order wisely. We started off with some spring rolls that seemed like they were made the day before. The shrimp were nice and plump, but the inside was kind of light on the herbs and the lettuce was wilted. My friend ordered a fried noodle dish and a fish stir fry. The noodles were nice and crispy and the fish was tender (though not particularly fresh) but both were served in a bland white sauce that required significant augmentation from the array of condiments. I have to say I like that they have chilli oil and fish sauce on the table, it's just too bad we had to use them so liberally to coax some flavor out of the food. I ordered the bun bo hue, thinking it was a house specialty. The broth was pretty damn good, lots of beef flavor, plenty of chilli peppers. The beef brisket and tendons were tender and flavorful. So far so good. But they included a couple large hunks of "luncheon meat" which were spongy slices of some kind of processed pork that really weren't very good. The dish would've been better if they had just left those out. Also the side plate of herbs and veggies was pretty lacking. No limes, no mint, no basil. I'm no expert on Vietnamese food, but I've always felt a big plate of fresh herbs is the hallmark of the cuisine. Overall, it's a nice place. I think if you know what to order you can do well here. Seeing as there aren't many Vietnamese places anywhere near by, it's worth a visit, just don't expect too much.

We ate here last night. I had the pho and I was like, "PHO KING A......." This place is delicious, fools. I didn't even put a drop of Hoisin or Sri in my soup 'cause I didn't want to taint it. And I LOVES the taint. The fried rice here is unique and fantastic. Its as if, instead of oil, they fried it in the tears of an angel. Or bacon grease. Halfway through dinner, though, the place started to smell like SHIT. Not like bad food burning or weird smell. It literally smelled like shit coming out of a baby's ass. Turns out, the two year old sitting next to me took a huge shit in his pants. So, why only four stars? 'Cause one of the servers/hostesses was slutting it up most of the night with a table of old horny white dudes chugging beers, doing shots and it was obnoxious. I just want to eat my pho and angel tear rice in peace and not have to watch some gross old dudes with asian fetishes pincushioning the loose hostess. Oh yeah, and there were no paper towels left in the bathroom, which I didn't realize until after I had washed my hands. So then, I had to touch the handle with my wet hands *puke* and then do that weird stretch while I held the door open with my toe and lunged ALL THE WAY TO MY RIGHT to wash my hands again. The soap smelled good though. Like angel breath.

We searched online for Vietnamese food online and found this restaurant in Joliet. I had the Pho Ga (Rice noodle soup with chicken and cilantro) which was very good along with Ga Cuon (Spring rolls stuffed with chicken and veggies with sesame sauce) for an appetizer. Good service and great food. This was a first time experience with Vietnamese food and it was excellent! I will go here again for sure.

The firecracker shrimp was omgood. Everything else was just ok. I will go back to try the pho, tho.

The food is fine, the customer service is dreadfully awful. I went with a friend and they did not like their food and they charged her full price for it instead of taking it off the check. They even argued at the table...terrible experience, OK food.

All the good things you've read on Yelp about Hue Palace are true. We stopped by after a show at the Rialto Square theater and this place is adorbs! Super friendly, quiet, clean, big portions, and cheap prices! We dined on the beef pho and shrimp spring rolls. Also ordered the salt and pepper squid, not realizing it would be breaded and fried. That was kind of dispointing, however, it was super tasty even though not what we expected. If we were closer, I'd want to go back again and try some of the other dishes!

YUM! Everything was good. Food came out quickly, servers were friendly and helpful and food was fantastic!!! Fresh ingredients, lots of flavor, cooked to perfection. Can't wait to go back!

Hue Palace has THE best spring rolls. My family and I love their fried rice as well. I've tried other dishes and they have all been excellent. The staff is very courteous and very attentive. Going to Hue Palace is a treat.

huge portions of soup, nice, fresh ingredients, sooo friendly!! The shrimp spring rolls are very good and they also make a sandwich called a bahn mi ( sorry if I spelled it wrong) but it has pickled veggies and yummy meats, very good. For all the non-variety of restaurants in joliet, this place is a gem!!

Their salt and pepper tofu is as good as I've had anywhere. It's a favorite of mine. They have plenty of vegan/vegetarian options!

We just moved into the neighborhood, and I was thrilled to see that Joliet actually had a Vietnamese restaurant! We ordered for take out (well, technically we wanted delivery, but they only deliver orders over $30, a detail that is left off of their website). It was super quick! We ordered a pork Bahn Mi, and a beef Pho. They told us to come get it in 15 minutes. Awesome. Pros: According to my husband, the Bahn Mi was delicious. My Pho was very filling, tons of noodles and veggies, and HUGE. I love the mix of lime, cilantro, and jalapenos that comes with the soup. Yum. The prices were reasonable. Even the toddler liked the noddles, meat, and veggies from the soup. My husband doesn't share. Cons: The sandwich could have used more meat, according to the hubby. The broth for my Pho came lukewarm, but it couldn't have sat that long because we live around the corner and came to get it at exactly 15 minutes, so maybe the packaged it up too early? I had to heat it up to really get it to warm the meat and noodles (which come separately). I can't wait to try the hot and sour soup, and the spring rolls next time.

I've been to many Vietnamese Restaurant before, this one is at the bottom of my list. But since I live in Joliet & there's no other one around that's my only option. Been here twice, once a few years ago. I ordered Pho & it was bland. Also ordered Vietnamese pork chop, had better ones before. I told my husband I didn't want to go back, but today I was craving for some Pho. I decided to give it another try, to my surprise it was different than the 1st visit. The broth was tastier, my husband had the Rice Vermicelli Noodle with Tofu, he seemed to enjoy it too. Also ordered Mango smoothie, this is the kind of smoothie that I would not mind paying $3.50 for. It was delicious. The only thing that I was kinda disappointed about is the shrimp fresh roll, any other time I ate this they always comes with 3 half shrimps in a roll (it's butterflied). But mine only comes with 2 half butterflied shrimps at each end of the roll, even the picture on the menu shows 3 half butterflied shrimps per roll. Oh well, maybe they ran out of shrimps or something. LOL... The waiter was very nice & attentive. Overall it was an O.K. experience, so I'll give them 3 stars & I think I will go back to try other items on the menu.

Took my niece here for dinner a few weeks ago. Neither of us had ever had Vietnamese food before so I figured it was time to try something new. The restaurant is sparsely but nicely decorated, and was not crowded for 7pm on a Saturday night. The staff is friendly and offered advice to us newbies while ordering. We started with Chicken Spring Rolls, which were delicious (and HUGE). Then we shared a small bowl of Pho. The waitress knew we'd be ordering other entrees so she suggested a small order would be sufficient. She was right, a small is pretty darn big. Unfortunately, a small is only $0.55 cheaper than a large. Oh well. For entrees, I got a beef stir fry in a brown sauce and she got a shrimp/fried noodle dish. Portions were again quite generous and we both had plenty to take home. I'll definitely be back.

I went with a group of friends on Saturday, March 27th, 2010 for dinner. This was my very first time ever trying Vietnamese food and didn't know what to expect, so I was relieved to see a tv screen scrolling pictures of many of their dishes to help me out. We started with a few spring rolls -- one order was fried; one order was not fried. Both were very good. Then we ordered our entrees. Each of us loved everything we ordered. I ordered one of the rice noodle soups (with chicken, cilantro, green onions) and was totally full and satisfied after eating only about a third of it. They recommended I put the sweet and sour sauce and hot sauce in the soup along with the bean sprouts and jalapeno peppers -- it added a whole other dimension to the soup that I wasn't expecting. I brought the soup home and had it two more times; that's how much I liked it. Someone else in our party had a dish with noodles and shrimp and mentioned that there was very much shrimp in it, but he liked the dish overall. The fish in the clay pot was also a hit! The fish was very soft and tender and had a great flavor to it. The service was prompt, friendly, and accurate. The prices didn't scare me away from trying Vietnamese food for the first time. I think the prices and portion sizes are perfect! I noticed some reviews said it was BYOB. When we were there they were serving beer and wine, which, according to the signs, seemed like something new. I definitely recommend trying Hue Palace. I will certainly be back!

This place is a great place! The food is so amazing, the flavors are layered so well. The decor is very cool and the service is great. This is a place you will definitely get back to. If you don't know what you want, just take a recommendation from the owners. I haven't been let down yet. I really like the Chicken Spring Rolls for a starter, they are packed with lettuce, basil, cilantro, rice noodles and Sauteed Chicken wrapped in rice paper. Another great dish is the Shrimp Sate, it is sauteed shrimp with green onions on a bed of lettuce. It has a light sweet glaze that is slightly spicy. Drink that with a good beer. I forgot to mention that this place is BYOB!!! The liquor store is right next door which is very convenient. This is a place you will quickly recommend to friends.

I've stopped by Hue Palace a couple of times for lunch and I do not expect it to be the best place for authentic Vietnamese food. The first time I went, I wanted a Vietnamese sandwich but they were out, so I just ordered pho, which tasted ok, nothing special. The second time I went, I tried one of the stir fry chicken dishes and it was ok too. It is a good place to stop by for a quick lunch near work, but that is about it.

    (3)
  • Tom K.

For spicy food... this is the place. I asked the cook directly to make it as spicy as he could and the man delivered! All the food was good, just nothing special if you've eaten at slightly nicer Vietnamese places before. If you've never had Vietnamese food, time to go!

  • Tanya R.

I ordered the Pho which was really good (best I've had since moving back to IL). The only downfall I have with this place is that you cannot use a credit/debit card for purchases under $10.00 That's just a business practice I'm not a fan of from anyone. If it weren't for this, they would've gotten the full five stars from me.

I live in the burbs and finding a really good viet restaurant is hard. Most places are in the city. There are only a few places in the burbs I would go to for some good old PHO. Hue is one of the few places that actually serves a good bowl. The broth is tastey and not watered down like some suburban Vietnamese places. I usually get the pho with meatballs and thin sliced beef. I highly recommend the bahn mi 's (viet sandwhich) with grilled pork!! Just be careful with the hottt spicy peppers that put in there. I mean I love spicy things, but those peppers burn my mouth. lol. The shrimp and pork fresh springrolls are ok, but I have had better. Otherwise, I totally recommend trying this place out if you are around town.

I ABSOLUTELY love this place. When I walk in, they ALWAYS remember me and my order. The pork spring rolls and peanut sauce are ridiculously delicious. I usually order the Pho Tai Nam with extra meat, and the bowl arrives hot, fresh, and packed. They also give you plenty of condiments IE fresh basil, bean sprouts, limes, jalapenos, cilantro etc. AND it's always fresh. For desert I order the Thai Tea, which reminds me of an "Asian Horchata". I love this place, and I am usually in there once a week.

Wow, we just randomly came in last Friday night for dinner based on the rave reviews the restaurant got on yelp. Deliciously fresh and incredibly flavorful food with a warm atmosphere and attentive staff. We had spring rolls, cold chicken salad, pho, and chicken and veggie stir fry with rice noodles. OMG, everything was Awesome!!!! Very fairly priced. I can't believe that a gem like this is tucked away in a strip mall in Joliet! HIGHLY, highly recommend it!

  • Julie D.

Spring rolls are excellent! Tried both the chicken and tofu ones. The dipping sause that it comes with puts them over the top. Tried 2 diff kinds of pho and though I was totally stoked about trying this place and heard so many good things I thought the pho was tasteless and boring. Though it did clear my sinuses. I was disappointed the 1st time we went and thought I would give it another try cause I wanted to like it so badly, the 2nd time around was no different :(

  • Valerie B.

I've been back twice since my first visit, and the 2nd time was good, although there were different vegetables in the same dish I ordered the first time. Last week, however, I found a bone in my "chicken" which turned me off. I say "chicken" because the meat had a really strange texture.

This is a wonderful gem in Joliet. My favorite is the spring rolls. They're filled to bursting and the meat is grilled. All of the ingredients are fresh and it's very easy to find healty options.

  • Kris W.

For where it is, it's good. Is it super authentic? No. But it's in Joliet, and it's well to remember that. Feeling a little sick? Stop by for a bowl of pho. Lots of other options on the menu as well that are more rice and noodle in nature, and even a couple decent veg choices. Staff can be short on English but are very nice and helpful. They dispense tasty food at very good prices. Give it a whirl sometime.

This is an excellent place when you know what Vietnamese is or want to find out. I frequent Hue about once a week. Pho in winter, noodles in the summer, always spring rolls with fresh shrimp and that peanut sauce that's so good.

This was a delight to find. It has been over 10 year since i have had Vietnamese that i could not say anything negative if i wanted. Until today, I was on a quest and it was fulfilled. I had a sample of the pork spring rolls (amazing), sliced pork and steamed rice and beef and meatball pho. I was pleased with everything, service, food and the place is very nice and clean. If you're in the mood for something a little different do yourself a favor and go here.

Okay, it's been a month or so before I visited, so I can't remember details. That being said, I was so excited to find this place. It was a Sunday night in Joliet (WHY do I always want to dine out in Joliet?). So, like, nothing decent was open. My lady said, "let's go see if Barolo's is open." I was willing. When we arrived at the unassuming strip mall, we found Barolo's dark and I wasn't sure whether they were open or what. I didn't really care though, as I spied a big friendly "open" sign a couple of doors down at Hue. It looked nice and clean with its white linen tablecloths and spare decor (btw, there is a fishtank if that interests you). Vietnamese Cuisine in Joliet... score? Score! We LOVED the food, atmosphere, and the service. I think there were TVs in the corners with a continuous loop showing pictures of the various plates offered. Fun. As a pescetarian, I have to be careful with Vietnamese food because there seems to be pork in everything. We were able to find a few yummy things on the menu to try, though. I recommend the lemonade. I think it had preserved lychee or something in it and it was really tasty. It's officially on my list of go-to eateries in the area.

Ordered shrimp and pork spring rolls and a #17 with marinated chicken over the phone. The guy over the phone informed us that it will take 25 minutes. When we walked in the place, it smelled like old food since many tables still had customer leftovers on them which seemed like they have been sitting for a while and they were not cleared. When we got our food we were so disappointed on the amount of chicken that was given over rice. They tried to spread them out over rice to make it seem more than it is. But It was about 7 small cube pieces of chicken over a bed of rice. If it tasted good I wouldn't be so upset. But it had no taste. The spring rolls were a disappointment as well. They were tough and hardly had any meat in them. I would never go back to this place.

    (1)
  • Cindy K.

Pho was fantastic! Spring rolls were also good. Avoid everything else! Shrimp firecrackers were chewy. Egg rolls not worth the calories. Fried rice was ok. We ordered a couple chicken dishes but they ran out of chicken, so they subbed beef without even asking us if it's ok! Wtf?!?! The dining room was full and there was only 1 server, so it took a long time to get anything including silverware! So we sat and stared at our food for a while before she came around again.

Spring rolls and the PHO for you! I cant help but get those every time.

  • Ryan H.

Awesome, fresh, clean tasting pho. I've had 4 - 5 dishes here now and can't really go wrong. The spring rolls are great, the salt and pepper squid is a favorite of mine (albeit very salty), but the mini egg rolls are consistently over cooked in my opinion. I've been meaning to try the fish crock pot everyone raves about, but the pho is so addictive. Pad thai is great here too. Service is quick and it's usually not crowded. A great hidden gem with healthy food choices. Friendly staff. Not 5 stars because they are frequently out of things like squid or chicken wings, and as another reviewer said they do need to clean up tables faster. Whether you love Vietnamese or have never tried it I would stop in and give it a try.

Updating this review because I realized the greatness of this restaurant in this little suburban spot. Living in the city and trying many Viet restaurants they have to offer (in Argyle, especially) made me realize how good Hue actually is. With that being said, it will only do them justice to for me to up their review. Keep your business going!

I'm a big Vietnamese fan and never knew about this place until today. Great service. Great meal. My wife and I shared spring rolls, a noodle bowl, and chicken with lemongrass. All of them were very fresh and flavorful. The owner / chef is very friendly and helpful. I will definitely be back again.

Updating our previous review. We have been coming to Hue Palace for more than 5 years. The food is still excellent and the employees are still friendly as ever. Just to let everyone know there have been some great changes at Hue Palace. For instance prices have gone WAY down and the food is still delicious. After talking to the owner we also learned that there will be renovations taking place real soon not to mentioned added varieties of smoothies and flavored teas. This is a great family restaurant to try out you won't regret it. Affrspandian F. Joliet, IL

I am going to have to update my review. The Pho is still really good but now that I have gone there almost 10 times now, everything I try is really good. The Spring Rolls are the best I had ever!!! Yeah, I said it. They are tight rolled and so light served with this peanut sauce that is great with anything. And now that I am really getting into Yelp more. I realize that I was probably too critical at first. Like the 5 stars says "As good as it gets" and regarding the spring rolls and number 58 (sorry I don't know the name) this is as good as it gets.

This place is a gem. Tucked in a strip mall you might pass it. Great service in this small restaurant. The wait team is very friendly and offered ideas to our group willing to try new things. The rolls and Pho were the best I've had in the Chicagoland area (I get Pho frequently). This place crushes the chain Noodles Pho You nearby. Highly recommend! Check it out and you won't be disappointed!

  • Julie T.

I was looking to find a pho joint in the suburbs because I hate having to drive all the way down to Chicago for some good pho. Hue Palace is now my solution for a pho craving without having to drive as far. Before even walking in I knew the pho was being prepared right. The aroma itself is amazing! Pho here is delicious and it comes out right away too. They ran out of beansprout and gave us shredded cabbage but I did come in late so I can't really complain. You get a lot of broth and it's very flavorful, my only issue is that I really didn't get enough noodles even when ordering a large. But the prices are amazing so you can really let that slide and just ask for more noodles. $7.95 for a small $8.95 for a large. I'm definitely coming back!

  • Sheri M.

I can't believe this place has gone so downhill! My husband and I were in there recently and we are very disappointed. The service was downright lousy. The waitress was completely ignorant towards us. I spilled some water and she gave us a roll of paper towel to clean it up ourselves and didn't even come over to help wipe the table. She copped an attitude and did not even bring me another glass until I had to get up and ask. I am appalled! When I asked her for a take home box, she set it on the table with a slam. I am absolutely not accustomed to that kind of treatment and will never be treated as such again!!! To that waitress...I write this to let the world know how you act and that you didn't get away with it, and if either of us comes in again, we command service from you with the utmost respect!!! Very poor customer service!

  • Lisa B.

I didn't even know what Pho was until my friend asked me to go here with her for a little girl time since I had seen her for awhile. Everything was great (my friend and I let each other try what we had purchased) and I'd like to go back again some time! The only problem I had was even though it wasn't very busy, our waitress would disappear for a long time and you'd be dying for a drink. Maybe it was just "one of those days" and I personally wouldn't ding my rating for it in the long run. It happens! I'll be coming back soon.

My first time eating Pho so I have nothing to compare it to. I can say the Pho was outstanding. Hot, fresh and very tasty. I did try to order Egg Roll appetizer and they were out (5pm on a Saturday). No big deal.... the Pho made up for it. I'll definitely be back...

Someone recommended this place a couple of years ago and we've been coming here ever since. We're about 30 minutes away but this is still a lot easier than driving to the city. The food is always good, price is reasonable, service decent, and the recently remodeled strip mall location is nice and comfortable. Our favorite is the He Kho To, or Slow Cooked Marinated Pork in a Clay Pot. Not too spicy, not sweet, it just tastes really good. Everything else we have had has been good and it seems pretty authentic. What could they do to make it better? A few really spicy options, some type of papaya salad, and servers more willing to recommend something to people who don't know what to order. But overall, if you're ever in Joliet, this is the place to go.

    (4)
  • Jessie I.

Mildly disappointing...with very mild flavors... I got the shrimp roll, spring roll and a banh mi. They were all light in flavors. Sauces were weak. I was really looking forward to trying this place after reading the menu and reviews...

  • Cassie M.

First time here. The food was good, I would go back. Not the best but if someone wanted to go, I wouldn't say no. I got the Bo xao xa ot, it was good, really spicy. My bf got some pineapple chicken, which is what I'll definitely get when I go again, so good. It's really small and you have to ask for drinks, but overall, a pretty good place.

  • Donna L.

Vietnamese in the suburbs! Who'd have thought?! The food I like here best is: the beef flank pho (naturally), the springrolls, and the iced coffee. The lemongrass chicken and also the slow-cooked clay pork are fabulous (but spicier). Many of the prices are moderate and not bad; a small bowl of Pho runs you $7.50, and the bowl itself is huge for being a "small." It's definitely worth it if you don't want to go to Chicago for your Vietnamese fix.

Over the past years, my family and I have tried many Vietnamese restaurants in the area including the ones in Chicago, but we find ourselves coming back to Hue Palace for many reasons. Their Pho and many other dishes are unique unlike many places we have tried, even my really picky 2 year old son enjoyed it considering he doesn't eat much. Recently, we've seen some changes on their menu, the prices are now lower and the amount of food portions are the same. I am not sure why the prices are lower but obviously I think the owner wants to attract more customers and he did it right in my opinion. The restaurant is now packed. I went there 2 days ago and noticed the place is really cool and fresh, that makes eating Pho with even more pleasurable. All my sons are enjoying the place very much. I highly recommend this restaurant for lunch or dinner.

  • Diocelina G.

The food is always solid and amazing. The only reason why I don't give this place 5 stars is because the portion for their lemongrass stir fry is never NEVER consistent. I always get the same dish vegetable lemongrass stir fry with rice noodles, and every single time they don't serve it the same as the last. However flavor is always on point. I love their pickled lime coconut water as well, regrettably past 4 times I've been there, they're always out.

Just came here for the first time. Waitress was extremely attentive. Very friendly. We started with the pork egg rolls and chicken wings with house sauce. Both were extremely delicious. Nice light airy egg rolls that were fresh and amazing. The wings had an incredible crispy taste as well. So far starting off right. Wow and here in Joliet. Really?? Ok so my main dish was the beef with shredded pork skin, Vietnamese sausage, steamed rice , cucumber and lettuce. Pork skin was grainy. The rice and beef were tasty. Never had Vietnamese sausage but I didn't care for it. I will try the shirt ribs next cuz I hear they are awesome. Still a good dining experience.

Have been going here since I first found it in 2014 and must say, still the best Pho around. They recently updated/renovated the restaurant and it looks great. There is now a large tv and they serve smoothies - real smooties with real fruit. Try the avocado one, very tasty! The menu is large and they will accommodate you with what you like. The owners are very personable.

Based on multiple visits, I can't help but to sing the praises of Hue Palace. A unique cuisine to find in Joliet, this is definitely a hot spot to be. Their soups (I'm not even going to attempt to butcher the spelling) are definitely the highlight here. Delicious in a way I never knew was possible, satisfying in a way I have always craved. Things may be hit or miss on the service end of things though, my last visit I called to place an order for pickup, with no reply. Upon arrival at the restaurant, however it was revealed that their credit card processing equipment shares a phone line with their phones, literally needing to be plugged in and out for every credit transaction. That particular visit was disappointing because one of my favorite dishes, the slow cooked pork in clay pot, was overcooked to the point where the pork was inedible. All of my other visits have been spot on, however, and accidents are prone to happen in an imperfect world, especially in the food service industry. Overall I still love this place and will always go back.

Who's house? Hue's House! I mean, Hue Palace. This place has the best pho of my life. And probably the best combo fried rice, no jokes. Where the food excels, the service and ambiance totally lacks, hence the 4 stars. If they invested in their interior and not having creepy weird servers, I might consider giving Huey Lewis the full 5 star treatment. That's the power of love.

Used to be somewhat regulars. Ownership has changed hands and I could tell. Walked in and one of the employees was sleeping, head down on the table. Walls were filthy. Food was just ok. Shame. I liked it.

Fantastic little Vietnamese place in far out Joliet, IL. Randomly Yelped this place while attending a wedding in the area and was pleasantly surprised. ALWAYS start with a spring roll. They are crisp, fresh, and delicious in the peanut sauce that comes with. We ordered the Pho and the Big Noodle soup bowls. Both were delicious. Broth was hot and spicy for the big noodle soup bowl and the Pho was of course the best of the two. Spice up both noddle bowls how you like, throw in your bean sprouts and basil and you're good to go! Prices range from $7-$10. Cheap and delicious.

Good pho, banh mi sandwich was a little shady with the meat but i will try it again. Firecracker shrimp wasnt what I expected but was ok. For this area I would say its better than most.

Since moving down to Plainfield, we were hoping to find a tasty bowl of Pho, that doesn't require us to drive a great distance. Unfortunately, this place is not going to have us frequenting this place in the near future. We started with an order of shrimp spring rolls, that was tasted bland and looked like it was put together last week. The highlight was the Pho, but I felt it was a bit over-priced for as little meat I received with my order. My wife was not very fond of the cinnamon that appeared to be in the broth, so it was instantly the kiss of death for us. If not for the spring rolls, I may have given this place an extra star, but I can't get past browned lettuce. Honestly how tough is it to not serve old lettuce?

So I finally got to try a Vietnamese restaurant!! I was too excited to come here, and even more excited that my boyfriend was going to try this. He is not as open to Try things as I am, so I was kinda nervous at the same time for him! Walking in the place was a lot smaller than I expected it to be. But then again I'm not there to take in the scenery, and I don't plan on eating carpet, upholstery, and those awful paper covers over the table. Anyway let's get down to business. We started out with egg roll appetizers and fried chicken wings. Yes chicken wings. If I've learned anything in life it's that Asian people can fry some F*cking chicken!! The wings were good, but they weren't a complete wing so I felt ripped off. The egg rolls were good! We ordered our dinners, and I let the waitress talk me into a dish called "Fish in a clay pot." I had my fingers crossed because I ordered a large and didn't want to be disappointed. Omg it was soooooo good. I could hear my slaves ancestors singing while I ate that damn dish! #Gurl. My boyfriend on the other hand I felt sorry for. He ordered this platter with pork skin(So Gross), Vietnamese sausage ( which tasted like a sweet pickled hot dog #MassiveFail), beef( like 4 small pieces), and then some cheap ass iceberg lettuce and tomatoes. I personally would've been mad at the world & ready to commit a hate crime had I ordered that, but he handled it well. ****2nd Visit**** Okay we went back the very next week to try something else. This time the boy went for the short ribs, and I the lemongrass chicken. I loved my dish!!! OMG another great choice!!! My boyfriends dish tasted good, but the pieces of meat were so small and they were full of bones!!! Very hard to enjoy without the fear of breaking a tooth. #Security!!! I also asked for an order of lemongrass chicken wings which I will NEVER ORDER AGAIN. When I originally ordered I thought I would've been getting the lemongrass chicken wings, but I said lemongrass chicken so what I got was chicken breast with all the spices and whatnot. I really wanted fried wings so I ordered them- the wings really pissed me off. The wings were not full pieces. They cut the wings in half. Yes in half. So you pay 14 bucks for what looks like 7 chicken wings, but cut in half looks like double that amount. Waste of money, and I was so worried about succumbing to an early death due to bones being lodged in my throat. #SomebodyCall911 #OrPeterFrancisGeraci You should NEVER cut cooked chicken bones like that!! Every single sharp piece stabs you in the mouth while you try to enjoy your food! The bones also break while you are eating!! #Hazard The Cook needs to #DoBetter!! #FinishHim!! I will never order that dish again I don't care if my life depends on it. We also had the spring rolls. Upset city. I was expecting fried rolls. These rolls were just stuffed with meat, rice, and veggies inside of like a big noodle. They were soggy. #HatedIt I will go back to Hue Palace for the fish dish!! Sooo good! The lemongrass chicken as well just not the wings! I do think they place is HUGELY OVERPRICED. #ThatsAllFolks

If you've never had Vietnamese food before go to Hue's palace. If you're the Vietnamese connoisseur go to Hue's palace. AMAZING food, seriously. I always get the lemongrass chicken, it's like heaven. So fresh and delicious. It's byob which is cool and no corking fee. Do not go starving though; you will be waiting at least a half hour for your food once you get seated. I like that about Hue's though the ambiance is nice, enjoy your time there! Don't rush!!

Not happy. Food reviews look good but they don't answer the phone for pickup orders. I won't waste my time trying again.

The service is nothing short of terrible. I always feel like all the young kids here are on Prozac or something. Like deer in headlights. Other than that the food is pretty exceptional!! A side note... I wish they'd make the restrooms a little more pleasing on the senses.

We went here the other night for the first time since they remodeled and downsized the dining room. It's actually a better ambiance now that it is smaller, it seems more busy. Anyway, down to the food. The shrimp spring rolls with homemade peanut sauce are fantastic. The sauce really is the best peanut sauce I have ever had. The main reason I usually go here is for the Pho. The broth is so addicting, it is like crack, even if I usually add copious amounts of chili oil. Also worth eating is the clay pot pork. Very good and not overwhelmingly spicy. It's great having a quality Vietnamese restaurant in the area!

. Tons of rice and noodles, but where was the meat? Barely any in the chicken and shrimp fried rice and only a few beef chunks in the noodles and both didn't have many vegetables either. I had to add some left over meat from dinner the night before. I felt $25 was a bit much for two plates full of carbs. The flavors, however, were very nice and the service was quick.

Food here has gone done hill in the last few years. It's not horrible just not great. I guess if you've never had authentic Vietnamese cuisine it would be good/ok to those. Ordered the Bun Bo hue, had to request Vietnamese version otherwise not all the ingredients come with the dish. Ordered a fruit smoothie with tapioca. No tapioca. I waited a for the waitress to get done talking with other customers for a few minutes than waited longer to try to get her attention. Finally she came over and my guest and myself pointed out that our smoothies did not have tapioca and asked if we could have some....she walked away saying oh yeah I need to make some. Well have some tomorrow. That's it. No apology or anything. If we didn't point it out she wouldn't have said anything. Hmm I'm gonna have to drop this done to 1 star. Now I remember this waitress had a funky attitude and the pho is always bland with overcooked noodles. I was raised on Vietnamese food and have had food in Vietnam..this place gets 1 star for service and quality.

Wonderful hidden gem! We are out-of-towners in from LA. This was a wonderful experience. Service was great and food was even better. We had a group of 5. Started out with beers and build your own spring rolls. Absolutely tasty. The shrimp was cooked to protection by a PRO. We all ordered different versions of the Pho. The broth was a little on the darker side but had a lighter taste! Exquisit! All the veggies were fresh and the meet was delicious. I am one to eat my rare steak actually rare. I don't even put the meat into the soup. I'm glad to say that I didn't get sick and all is well! This was surprisingly great! I give it 5 stars for the food quality. The ONLY thing this place could use is some music!

Excellent food. Never had vietnamese food before and was there twice in one week. We had the Pho noodle soup which was so good because I had a mild cold. We also ordered the Fish Fillet in Ginger Scallion sauce and it was to die for. Melt in your mouth fish. Can't wait to go back for that again. We also got fried rice and Shrimp Spring rolls which were a real good size and packed with flavor. Loved the place and will be back for sure and is highly recommended for a healthy meal. I just wish the portions were a bit bigger on the rice and fish, but that is my only thing to complain about.

Excellent food! Get there early for lunch because it gets crowded fast! Yelp reviews were right on. Very tasty spring rolls and bun was good. My first time there and would definitely go again. The service was a little slow but very nice. I think they could probably use another person at lunch time because they get busy!

Hue Palace has AMAZING food. My freind and I always get the beef noodle bowl, with extra fish sauce. It comes in a huge bowl and the meat is marinated absolutely deliciously. We've had many things like Vietnamese sandwich, spring rolls, noodle bowls, crab in the clay pot, etc. YOU MUST TRY HUE! ALWAYS FRESH AND DELICIOUS! ******* UNFORTUNETLY, i have a huge complaint, which resulted in my freind and I NEVER going back there again...... We were such frequent customers that everytime we walked in the waiter/waitress would come up to us and ask simply "beef noodle bowl?" and they AUTOMATICALLY knew what we wanted. THE EXPERIENCE FROM HELL.... They had some teenager member of the family working whom has waited on us several times and we tip well, there were only two tables when we walked in. It took him 25 minutes before we got our drink order, and then another 20 minutes to come back to take our order. UNACCEPTABLE. 45 MIN FOR US TO GET OUR ORDER WITH ONLY 2 OTHER TABLES?!?!?! We waited patiently, my freind ordered a sandwich to go as well as our noodle bowls. THEY BROUGHT OUT THE "TO GO" SANDWICH ON A PLATE FOR US TO EAT THERE! a table of four then came in, ordered, AND GOT THEIR FOOD BEFORE OURS. WE WAIT FOR 45 MINUTES, AND A TABLE WALKS IN AND GETS THEIR FOOD BEFORE US WHEN WE WERE THERE FIRST... DO NOT HAVE YOUR TEENEAGE FAMILY MEMEBERS RUN YOUR STORE WITHOUT A SUPERVISOR!!! so because of my horrible experience, i would rate everything but the food a 2STAR

Thanks to my good friend Tony C for recommending this place..you would never expect the quality of food to come from this lil spot tucked in the corner of a plaza! First impression was its very clean and you can tell they take pride in their heritage. Ive been addicted to the Spring rolls and Shrimp satay but but basicly anything u order is so good..never had PHO before and it blew me away! SCOOBY approved for sure!!! Oh cant forget!! Try the Vietnamese sandwich!!

This place is one of my favorite places to get pho from. I would eat this everyday if I could or if I lived closer, sometimes I think they sprinkle crack on my food to keep me coming back...yes, its that good! Now, I do have to warn you that this dish is very complex in flavors, so if you like really plain shit, then don't get it. I'm not sure what goes in their recipe, but, pho usually has star anise, and ginger and made with beef bones, and other delicious things. Their spring rolls are delicious, and the peanut sauce that goes with it is amazing! Its like tiny flavor crystals having a lap dance on your tongue and then it explodes all over your taste buds. Everything I've gotten there has been phenomenal, and it tastes fresh and homemade. Oh, and the staff has always been decent. Don't expect the overly fake nice you get at your regular chain restaurants. If your somebody who likes to be greeted with the overly excited waitress who makes you feel like you found the cure aids because you chose to eat there, that's not happening here. But they are very nice people and they make bad ass food

There are few vietnamese restaurant's in the area Hue Palace is the best you'll find for the surrounding area. I enjoy vietnamese food and instead of going to the city this place is pretty comparable. Service needs work, the food is pretty fresh. It's a small family owned place with pretty authentic food. You'll be surprised how fresh tasty and flavourful vietnamese food is. If you like Asian food and you like herbs and vegetables with bold flavors that are delicious then you will like vietnamese food.

This is my third visit. The quality of food is high. I thought the prices were reasonable. During my last visit, I had Pad Thai that was excellent and my mother had a shrimp dish that I forgot the name of. Everything was fresh. I can't wait to try the Pho during the winter. The only improvement that I would suggest is the interior needs updating and having the servers be a little more attentive. I am very happy they opened their restaurant in Joliet.

Exceptional. I bumped it up to 5 stars because service is above and beyond. For example, one visit we were running late and they still served us 15 mins to closing. The food was excellent, as always. The waitress (who was very pregnant) was very sweet and helpful. I highly recommend the Ga Xao Xa Ot (chicken stir fry with lemon grass), which was suggested to me by the waitress. If it is your first visit you must try the Pho, (traditional soup). The awesomeness of the Pho has already been covered in other reviews. Great place, great staff, great food. The firecracker shrimp and the spring rolls are also good.

I was a regular at vietnamese restaurants during my school years in san jose, ca. I'm glad one has opened up so close to my house. The food is great and very authentic. Love the phos. If you want authentic, great tasting vietnamese food, then this is the place.

I eat lunch here about once a week. The servers are sweet and always remember my order. I like the build your own spring rolls with tofu. Somehow I feel more full when I have to take my time and build my own food. Once in a while the tofu is a little over fried, but I still eat every bite. The Veggie Pho is also really good. I had mussels last time I was there and they were ok. They have a tv screen that shows a bunch of delicious looking food, so if you don't know what to order, check it out. I am grateful to have a healthly option out here in Joliet. Try it and you will be hooked.

Finally got a chance to go here! Been putting it off for far too long. Can't believe a place like this in Joliet exists! Interior was a lot swanker than originally thought. ]Rice here isn't fried like the Chinese style, so don't expect the rice to be as denser. My Com Dia was good, then again, I was more used to the Chinese style. The beef had a good flavor to it. The flan dessert was also ok, wish the texture didn't have a gelatin texture to it. Should of stuck with the beef tendon soup that my buddy ordered, which a large is a quart and a small is right around a pint. Nice people own the place. I hope it sticks around.

Hue Palace is a gem and a big recommendation. We started a super club with a few friends. My friend, Tony, picked Hue's Palace. I don't live in Joliet, so I was not too excited about the drive from Schaumburg. Hue's blew me away. I've eaten Vietnamese food one other time. I think it was in Amsterdam. Regardless, it's a lot like Thai, but meatier and they seem to use more seafood in their dishes. We started out with the Spring Rolls, which were busting out of their shells. Next, we tried their shrimp with steamed rice. Then we had a crab soup, which I added the spicy chili sauce. My sinuses opened immediately (Aaahhh.) For the main course we did this communal seafood soup. They bring out a portable grill, ladle and put a circular bowl and slowly boil salmon roe, mussels, shrimp and a myriad of vegetables. Between 6 of us we finished 2 huge bowls. After immersing the seafood and veggies, the broth was delicious. The owners surprised us with a pan fried, stone shell crab. This was a new experience. I love seafood and have never tasted the crab prepared this way. It was fantastic. As far as cost, it's very reasonable. Expect to pay around $12-15 per person and it's BYOB, which is awesome. We brought a couple of killer wines and were drinking Dos Equis, Heinekens and Sols all night. Conveniently, there is a liquor store that's open until 10pm two doors down. My one suggestion is that they offer ice buckets to keep the beer cold. I would pay a couple extra bucks for this luxury.

This is one of those places that makes one say, "Wait, this is in JOLIET?!?" My review is somewhat limited though -- I've only ever ordered about 4 things. The basic Pho, the catfish cooked in the clay pot, and the spring rolls. Every time I order it it's amazing, especially the Pho, which comes in a "make your own soup" setup so you can control the portions of peppers, basil, noodles and bean sprouts. The decor is pleasant and the staff is friendly and helpful, but I've only ordered carry-out. Frankly, it's the best Vietnamese food I've ever had outside of Le Colonial in Chicago.

Of all the Vietnamese places I've eaten, this is the best. In fact, this place is so good it deserves its own list (I'm going to do that). This would be a more sparkling review except that I've only been to 3 Vietnamese places and never the country so take that how you want. We started with Chicken Spring Rolls and the Hot and Sour soup. The spring rolls were delicious and fresh but the peanut sauce stood up and slapped delicious all up in my mouth. I could have drank it from a cup. The Hot and Sour soup was good but not in the same ball park as the other apps. For the entrees we had the Pho and the Beef and Lemon Grass stir-fry w/ rice noodles. The Pho was pho-nomenal. The Beef and Lemon Grass stir-fry was the best thing we ordered (better than the afore mentioned peanut sauce). The beef was so tender it melts in your mouth lemon grass seasoning met my taste buds and they absconded to a more private location (for "alone time"). Then you compound the flavors with jalapeno's (or some green pepper), bell peppers, onions, and fried rice noodles and you got yourself a round house kick or deliciousness. The other people I was with kept trying to take samples off my plate and I finally had to stab Ismael "DJ Nightwolf" G in the hand with a fork (ask him). Here's the big plus. It's adorable. This is not your typical carry out place with the mismatched chairs and the two tables set up in a corner. The decor was simple and elegant. I loved the tray of Vietnamese condiments and spaces that were labeled in English. Definitely a great place to bring a date. Seriously, if your into the whole "Asian thing" :) you must give this place a try. Tell 'em Joe sent you (it won't do anything for you).

Halp! call the Pho-macy! I'm sick and I hear Pho is a cure all. First time I've eaten Vietnamese and it was Pho-king good! Pho sho! I walked in and was greeted immediately, said I was ordering to-go, and was promptly handed a menu. I ordered the Shrimp Spring Rolls and Veggie Pho. $13 fed both the bf and myself. It was ready less than 10 minutes after I ordered. The spring rolls were perfect and the peanut sauce they give you with it gave it an awesome flavor. The veggie Pho was super tasty and the veggies were huge and crispy! They give you plum sauce and some kind of hot sauce to add too. I'm definitely going to go back and try more items on the menu. I'm a noob to Vietnamese food, but if it's all this good consider me hooked! I think I'm Pho-king feeling better too... hurray!

Food is five stars, the service is hit or miss and leaves a little to be desired. The last several times I have been there or ordered carry out, it's been sketchy. A ten minute wait turned into twenty-five when the restaurant was empty. Their website isn't completely accurate or up-to-date. All that aside, the pho is phenomenal. Only tried a handful of other items, but they have all been good as well. I'll keep going back, but hope their service can become as good as their food.

Worst place ever. Nasty food, horrible service, and ugly. I ordered the pho, which i did not like at all. I asked the lady if she could replace it for me but didn't find anything else on the menu that sounded good so I told her I just didn't want anything at all. She took my plate away and she went into the kitchen screaming in i don't know what language. I came here with my two cousins who also did not like it but didn't want to say anything and she just came and took there plates, which were also completely full, without asking. Then she came back with the bill and charged us for everything. I would understand if i had eat a good amount of the food but i had one spoonful and hated it and didn't touch it. Thats not worth $9. I went up to her and asked her why she had charged us for everything and she said because thats what we had ordered and i told her i didn't like it and she had took all of the food back so i should not be charged, or at least not for all three. I offered to pay for 1 for the loss, but she wouldn't budge. Then she just agreed to charge me 2 just to get rid of me. She couldn't even understand half the words i was saying. If your going work in a restaurant then at least know what people are asking your for or saying to you. I will never even go by this place again.

Been here twice. Sorry most (but not all) of the reviews you read about this place are from people who have NEVER had Viet food before. As for me, I grew up eating on Argyle St in Chicago(Viet town) and visit Westminster (Little Saigon) in CA a few times a year. My mom is viet and is also a great cook. So... This place is decent. I'd give it 2.5 stars. Things I've had here: #1 Tom Hoa Tien (Firecracker Shrimp), #2 Cha Gio (Egg Rolls), #4 Goi Cuon (Spring Rolls), #9 Banh Xeo (Viet Crepes), #27 Pho Dac Biet (Special Beef Noodle Soup), #28 Bun Rieu (Rice Vermicelli Soup), # 62 Ca Kho To (Claypot catfish) and a few more not on there online menu. I'd HIGHLY recommend NOT ordering the #9 Banh Xeo (Viet crepes). For some reason they thought it would be nice to have about 3 cups of bean sprouts in the crepes.. it looked like a bean sprout taco (I should have taken a picture). Also they served us FROZEN lettuce as the wrap.. seriously.. it was frozen still. :( And I'd also not recommend #28, it tasted more of sweet sour soup mix than what Bun Rieu should taste like, but maybe it was an off day. I do agree with the other reviewers and think that the pho here is actually really good. My brother had the #22, Pho Tai Bo Vien and he said it was pretty close to home (or as close as we were ever gonna get) So to conclude, come here for the spring rolls (fried or fresh) and the Pho, you would be wise to consider skipping the rest. The service is decent and the decor is nice but they definitely have room for improvement food wise.
