Everytime I visit my hometown I pretty much plan it around food. There are always a few key places in the south suburbs that I must visit. But now, I have a new favorite. The place is beautiful, the staff are amazingly professional, the chef is creative, but the food is incredible! The Cottage will be our first stop whenever we return. What a hidden gem!!!!!

My husband and I went here on our date night. We were excited to try a local restaurant that was farm to table. Our server was excellent, very knowledgeable about the plates. We tried the cheese board as a starter. It came with a half carafe of white wine (yeah). The rest of the evening was just average. We were disappointed with the bread/dinner rolls, it was cold and not fresh. My husband had the Cottage Burger. The fries were cooked a little too long and he did not care for the house ketchup. He did like the bun and said it was excellent:) I had the Red Snapper which was a special offering. It was tasty and I really liked the pineappple fried rice. I will give The Cottage another try. There are so many positive reviews that I hope we just chose the wrong dishes. Like I said the server was excellent.

I want to give them 4 stars, but went with 3 stars because our waiter wasn't knowledgeable, he brought me the wrong diner, mixed up his explanation of our cheese board and once I finally got my dinner - it was just okay. He was nice as hell and everyone did enjoy their meals, but no one gushed over how amazing it was. The appetizers were delicious tho, veg friendly, and have fun ingredients - good wine too - But again another issue, they didn't have the wine we ordered. The waiter informed us after the fact... I will go back for round two.... Hope to up my stars.

Went for brunch. Nice place. Great decor. Food wasn't so impressive and the prices were way too high for portion size.

Had the burger; did nit disappoint . Excellent wait staff. Beautiful ambience. Cant wait to try the pork shank. Dessert was amazing (sweet potato) something.

This place is the ultimate date place. Too bad I am with my mom and sister. Food is a bit expensive and portion sizes are gourmet(smaller), but great tasting and unique. Most local ingredients are used for the recipes. Find Mark the server, he is cool and gives you great recommendations. A little salty on a few items, not good for my family, but the mashed potatoes are great! I had the Red Snapper.

The Cottage on Dixie is a lovely building, amazing service, and conscientious dining. The server was able to tell us where all of the food was from and how the animals were raised and fed. The preparation of the food seemed strongly influenced by French preparation. We went with some friends and their baby to check it out last night. Our highlights were definitely the cocktails (our party tried six of them) and the poutine. The poutine was the best that any of us have ever had. It had a nice, smooth, complicated gravy, quality meat, and perfectly cooked fries. You'd think that it would be heavy, but it wasn't! Absolutely amazing. We also got the beet salad to share. It was good, but we've definitely had better beet salad. This one was dominated by salad greens adorned with half inch cubes of beets. Since we're a group who loves their beets we would have preferred them to be the star of the beet salad. A note on the "Small Plate" section of the menu: they were pretty large and I'm not sure that they were meant to be shared. No complaints or anything. We just were confused if "small plate" meant "appetizer" or "to be shared and sampled." Our friends enjoyed their two chicken entrees. One got the limoncello chicken special and the other got the Roasted Amish Half Chicken with rhubarb. The special out-shined the other but both were deemed winners! M got the Braised Lamb Belly Pappardelle. She thought it was good and the pasta in it was very, very good. She thought it must have been home-made but we didn't ask. I got the Sauteed Shrimp and grits. There were four jumbo shrimps on a bed of purple grits. Each individual shrimp had it's tail on and was doused in sauce. That presentation made it difficult to eat. I usually pick up shrimp by the tail and bite the rest off; however, the bed of grits and the sauce made that a messy endeavor.

one of the best sit down restaurants Homewood has. The food is good and so are the drinks. This is a upscale place that does take reservations.

Wonderful place! Decor was beautiful and service great. We brought our kids and waitress was so accommodating to them. Cheese and meat boards were superb. Our entrees were all quite good and very fresh. We will be back!

Since Cottage open it's door, I have been coming here for lunches and dinners. The brunches over the top. I enjoy the Bloody Mary bar on weekend. Very selective menu from Farms to tables, you will get to enjoy the season vegetable and meat, great wine list and amazing European pastry. I highly recommend Cottage on Dixie.

What?! What the FRUITLOOP!? Same chef, same quinoa burger...way different taste and texture! Not good! Soft, greasy, bland, and HIS Poutine was salty and greasy. I went back as I stated in my original review. I was eager and so very hungry. HE does not want to go back. We tried to fix the flavor with various sauces but that was a fail also. Some "blueberry-something" soup was bo-nasty (HE said). You definitely could not wet your bread because it was so thick. So glad it was complimentary. Can't say that I want to go back...about to take an antacid to cut the grease. So why did I eat half of it...I was starving an now I have regrets :-*

Sorry this is not what I expected. Have seen great press, great reviews and heard first hand about how great this place was. I took my mother for her birthday as she lives out in the S. burbs and has been for lunch previously and raved. I had the Amish prosciutto wrapped chicken breast which was great! My mom had the filet and was happy with the way it was prepared and cooked (as ordered), but nothing exceptional. Because it was her birthday we received a flourless chocolate cake !! A great surprise We also ordered salted Carmel creme brûlée This was just plane awful. I honestly think that it was spoiled or made by one of the 15 year old helpers. Guys check this immediately !!! Anyway, The food all was a 3.5 but the service was at best a 2.0. With a fairly empty house, the service should have been better. I would think anyone would expect more.

I thoroughly enjoyed dinner at The Cottage. The ambience was great and everyone was warm and friendly. It felt more like going to someone's house for dinner than regular restaurant dining. The presentation of the appetizers and entrees was terrific, and the food was very well seasoned. I ordered from the specialty menu, and I was pleasantly surprised. I also liked the farm-to-table concept. The food was freshly prepared and served piping hot. I highly recommend this restaurant, but don't go if you are in a hurry. Food this good takes a while to prepare!

The food here is amazing. People in the area are worried about the price, and I being a college student understand, but this place is an awesome place to celebrate with family or for an adult crowd to enjoy a nice dinner. Plus you get a ton of food! They have really cool drinks and every dish we got was creative and delicious. The waitress was so friendly and I think we were best friends by the end of the night. Definitely keep this place around!

Josh made our brunch and exquisite dining experience. We are visiting from Houston and enjoyed the level of customer he provided. He deserves the kuddos for the day. The food was delicious. We will definitely come back to dine soon.

I love the cottage. The ambiance is wonderful any time of the day. You can come in the morning for breakfast and brunch or in the evenings for dinner. The food is always fresh and flavorful. They make most everything from scratch even the catchup. I'm a pesceterian so I love the fact that they have vegetarian and seafood options which they note for your convince on the menu. The food is always good. And the drinks are even better. Wonderful place to come for drinks after work or to take someone on a quiet dinner date. The service is always stellar as well. Only complaint is that they close at 9 during the week but they never make you feel like you are over staying your welcome.

A solid 4 star dinner. If you are in the mood for a relaxing refined dining experience, you should make the trip. The decor is upscale rustic, the lighting dim but welcoming. Upon reading previous reviews I expected great food and poor service. But I must say our server was on point. It is a higher end dining experience, if you want quick go to applebee's. You are given time to enjoy the experience, study the wine list and menu, relax and have a conversation. That is exactly how this place should be, for us apps, dinner, dessert and cocktails in 2.5 delightful hours. Our waitress was informative and the suit I would guess to be the gm made the rounds a couple times with banter and recommendations. Our table decided on the poutine and a jar of herbed yogurt cheese with black olives served with toasted baguette. All amazing. Next course - Soups and asparagus salad. Raves cane in for both soups and the asparagus salad, while slightly overdressed was fresh and delicious. Entrees were filet with a porcini sauce and roasted potatoes, a special of 16 Oz pork chop, and a pan seared duck breast with a blueberry demi glaze and parsnip puree. My companions absolutely gushed about their filets and chop. My duck dish was enjoyable however it was not seared properly, fat was barely rendered and was the chewy bright white bite of undercooked fat. That said, I'm going to hope it was an off day. Dessert was a fabulous cinnamon Gelato and a better than average salted caramel creme brulee. Will definitely be returning, can't wait to sample more!

Perfect place for Saturday brunch. They have an amazing Bloody Mary bar ($7 single/$17 unlimited) with tons of toppings (candied bacon, Wisconsin cheddar and sausage). The food was reasonably priced ($9-13/dish) and locally sourced. An awesome, upscale brunch spot perfect for Saturday/Sunday mornings with friends!

Food was very good but not great, food and wine is on the pricey side but the service is painfully SLOW. I'm talking about 40 minutes to get our order taken then a millennium to get our food. 3-1/3 stars for the food, 2 stars for the value and 1/2 star for the service.

My wife and I have gone to this elegant yet not pretentious restaurant several times and have terrific meals each time. The building itself is impressive and even more so when you try to imagine how it could have possibly housed a Bakers Square. It is nicely spread out which really makes conversation a possibility. The service is impeccable, especially if you are lucky enough to have Travis but all of the people who work here are top notch. I have had lunch, dinner and breakfast here and the only disappointment was when they didn't have the lobster roll. The soups are rich and sinfully smooth. The breakfast bacon pancakes are the best I've ever had. Then there are the decadent desserts. My only regret is that I am not eating there right now. Let's both call and make a reservation, shall we?

I really like this restaurant and fervently hope it can survive here in the south suburbs. It's a classy joint as they say in the movies. The physical plant is astounding, particularly when you consider that this building began its life as a Bakers Square. It has been completely transformed into an oasis of civilized calm and farm fresh sustaniable food. I have been here for breakfast, lunch and dinner and all were outstanding. Plus, the restaurant continues to grow and mature, the food doesn't maintain, it improves. I've been here with my husband, a friend, my 91 year old father and my 24 year old daughter. Everyone is treated like gold, especially my father who changed his mind about his breakfast food after eating some of it. Our server acted like it was her absolute pleasure to change his meal and that she should have thought of it first. Everything here is good but if you come for brunch, oh my stars, those bacon pancakes are simply divine. Their soups are delicious and fresh, the burgers are mouth watering and dessert to devour with your eyes closed to fully savor each bite. I urge you to come here, often! You will probably see me, the woman eating dessert with her eyes closed.

Highly recommend the Cottage Burger. Pomme frittes. Homemade catsup. Highly recommend the Red Velvet Parfait w/ Sweet Basil Gelato. Intelligensia Coffee. Well-designed. Nice, comfortable decor. Nice bathroom! Great, pleasant service! Travis was wondetful. Farm-to-Table from Blue Island Organic Sustainable Farm (BIOS), among others. Accessible. Nutricious. Delicious. Great value.

Excellent excellent excellent! This place is amazingly good!!!! It's farm fresh to table and you can tell 100%. The waitstaff is friendly, helpful, and very attentive. It's great to have a "Chicago-like" restaurant right her in the suburbs. Every month they feature a different type of cuisine along with the regular menu....which is just ingenious!!! The food is divinely unique and gourmet!!! They have homemade craft beers and some of the best cocktails around. I honestly can't imagine anyone not liking this place. Give it a try...I know you won't be disappointed.

Upscale, relaxed atmosphere - the ambiance is fantastic - it's a great place to go for a respite from a hectic week. Tremendous food. The hummus is to die for - sweet & smoky. Everything we had was well balanced. I highly recommend the spaghetti squash & the duck breast. Both were cooked to perfection and full of flavor. The staff was knowledgeable, polite and attentive without being overbearing. Phenomenal service. For the perfect end to the evening, finish with dessert or a coffee by the fire.

Best place ever! My mom and i went there for a second time. It was a rough day so we needed a boost. It is accessible on the inside and outside. This time i had a poutine and it was great. We also had a meat and cheese board and it was so good. It was just like the duck i had last time: amazing. My mom was impressed with her meal also. It is fancy but also kid friendly.I would definitely go back. I have not been ever been disappointed.

Great drinks and a nice bar, too bad the food doesn't compare. We ordered a house salad which was warm and tasteless. We ordered two burgers and they both arrived well done when they we ordered medium rare, not to mention the fries were soggy and cold. For a farm to table restaurant I expected our server to be knowledgeable about the concept but sadly that was not the case. All of our food related questions had to be relayed to the kitchen. Also, I expected to see a plethora of seasonally available ingredients, but instead, there were a lot of things we saw on the dinner menu that were not in season or just don't grow in the Midwest. I think I'll just take a drive to green city market the next time I want to eat locally sourced food.

Challenging to write this one up. Have been to Cottage a number of times - each time hoping that they figure out the service issues. Food is generally very good. Nice selections and presentations. Love the seasonal nature of the menu. Currently NOLA is featured. Options looked good but we could not get them served (more on that in a minute). Ended up with the chicken - AWESOME - and the salmon - very good. Salads are fine. Drinks selection is pretty good (but get some better single malts and burbons please). As for service - frankly, this is why they only get 3 stars. waitress last night took forever to get to table, then disappeared for 20 minutes at a time. Forgot 2 drinks and then questioned if we ordered them. Brought out salads but forgot the special jambalya. said it would be right up. never came back. when she saw that the salads were done, she blamed the kitchen. By then, not interested in the soup. Rest of dinner service was OK but slow. They dont seem all that concerned about turning tables so if you go in with that in mind, you will be fine. Like I said, I go back for the food and keep hoping they fix the service. But alas, no joy on that front.

I brought my family to the Cottage on Dixie for the first time today! I promise we will be back! This place is amazing!! (And it is also very reasonably priced!). You will NEVER FIND ANOTHER PLACE LIKE THIS IN SUBURBIA! This fine dining establishment features Brunch, Lunch, Dinner and Seasonal Menus! There is a private Chef's Tasting Room in the Wine Room! The Gourmet Burgers have been featured on TV!! Don't forget the home made desserts from the Pastry Chef!! I LOVE THIS PLACE!!

We decided to come here for the brunch offering...Great food, especially for a start up. Service was excellent. We partook in the bloody Mary bar- we did virgin Marys as neither one of us really drink. They offer three bloody Mary mixes, all of which are house made. The one I had was a no spice and Ben had the middle of the road. We then had a selection of 30 toppings we could add to our drinks. This was absolutely amazing in terms of just pickle offerings. We both loved the bleu cheese stuffed olives, smoked horseradish cheese, mortadella stuffed olives, pickled cauliflower, house celery salt, pickled red onion, brined shrimp, and my personal favorite candied black pepper bacon. There was also a plethora of additional ingredients that we were just too full to try. I highly recommend going just for this drink feature, it is something that is normally attempted in downtown Chicago and they do it here with definite flair! I had the hamburger with fries and Ben had the Cobb Salad. We each got an order of the lamb sausage to try. My burger was excellent and done to temperature ordered. It came with shoestring pome fritz and a house made catsup. Ben's salad was so large that we could not finish it...It had copious amounts of ingredients- all of it unbelievably fresh. I only wish we had room for desert- the offerings looked fabulous and the table to our left ordered and seemed to enjoy what they got! The only improvements to be made to our food was a little dash of acid to make the rest of the seasonings sing, my personal recommendation for this would be a dash of apple cider vinegar to the salad dressing and house made catsup. I also would turn the lamb sausage into a lamb burger. It was perfectly seasoned with sage, rosemary, and white pepper. INCREDIBLE, which is why I would love to see them turn it into a main dish offering. Our server was named Josh and he was excellent. He got all of our order correct and checked in frequently to make sure that everything was going just right. We will be dropping in to check out the dinner fare soon. Having read some of the negative reviews on here I am happy to report that they are taking all feedback well and making improvements as they see fit. Once this restaurant shakes out all of the minor glitches it will be a 5 star place! I would also like to see more effort given to the different happenings and goings on there, I only found table tents in the bathroom- get them more visible! Let people know what events you are having there as they are unique and can generate a lot of interest in your establishment. Welcome to the neighborhood...

Burger alone was really good (hate bacon on ground beef though, as the beef should be able to stand alone), gruyere is never a detriment; that "housemade ketchup" is gross; garlic aoli was undetectable; beer list was well-rounded and they need to rethink their desserts. My creme brulee was warm and curdled. The brulee was unbreakable with the spoon. For a "great" burger go to au Cheval on Randolph in Chicago.

As I grew up in Homewood and my family still lives in the same home I grew up in - I absolutely wanted to see the new 'farm to table' place in the old Bakers Square location turn out to be a huge success. I would not say I'm any sort of expert here, but I am quite a foodie and have lived in 6 or 7 different major cities around North America all with vibrant food scenes (NYC, Seattle, Toronto, Las Vegas, etc...) so I feel I can speak honestly here. We went to the Cottage on a Thursday night before the Memorial Day holiday. After finding out the kitchen closed at 9pm (a gentle reminder that we are still in the suburbs) we made our way over by 8pm. Upon arrival I found the interior to be very tastefully decorated and loved the arts & crafts / mission style architecture. The restaurant had a couple other groups in it, but was fairly empty. We started with the "Smoked Fish Dip" after we asked what type of fish it was, and the waitress did a great job explaining it was a Smoked Trout that the chef does as he's from Florida and gave more details. It was really good - not too much mayonaise and something I would def. order again in the future! The entrees, unfortunately, were a different story. I debated between the hamburger and the demi fiilets, but unfortunately choose the demi filets. The steaks were flavourless, clearly had been frozen before hand. I know the filet isn't the most flavorful of the cuts, however I also have had pretty much 50 that are better than this. It was also clearly not cooked on high heat enough to sear the meat, so it almost seemed steamed. To be honest, I ordered the steak because I figured I'd try something that should have been hard to mess up. Clearly was incorrect. The wine list was good and had some reasonable priced offerings. No fault there. Overall the value for money was terrible too, unfortunately. I'm more than happy to pay $$$$ for a good meal, but this wasn't worth it. We spent about the same as we did two nights later in one of the top 10 restaurants in the city (name withheld). Something clearly is wrong there.

We came here for our anniversary and it was the perfect spot for a high end date night. I am so pleased that more inventive restaurants are now closer to home. We split a cheese plate, the mussels and lamb chops. Everything was fabulous and I love that they make a sincere effort to source locally. We then split two desserts and reveled in how smart we were to pick such great tasting dishes. Not only was the food top notch, but our server was the best server I have ever had. We left feeling like she was our new BFF. She really loves her job and raved about every menu choice we made. We did it up right because it was a special occasion and it was still affordable. We don't get too many opportunities for dates, but when we do, The Cottage definitely makes the short list.

I am being conservative with my first review, mainly because it was for lunch. Perhaps we will try dinner or brunch and update. My wife and I ordered the burger (mine was carryout because hers was not cooked to her liking). It was delicious. Tender and thick on a soft bun and a side of skimpy fries cut super thin. Be sure to order exactly how you want it cooked caused that's what you get. I ordered the steak salad, which was not to my liking. I like spinach; I don't love it. Our friend ordered the Cobb salad which she has enough to take with. We will try it again but mainly for the different dining experience. While not overly impressed with the lunch menu, it was pleasant enough to recommend and try the brunch. Be sure to ask for Travis!

Great Manhattan! Great Brunch. South Suburbs needs a restaurant like this. The great restaurants of the South burbs have almost disappeared, save Mr. Benny's and Glenwood Oaks. The Cottage stands head and shoulders above what is offered.

Stopped by to see if the burger was all that and it was. I enjoyed the well seasoned beef medium rare and juicy (not the east to find anymore) with some tasty tine cut fries. They served the burger with some homemade catch-up that was delicious! At $13 bucks it is not cheap but well worth it. The staff was very friendly and efficient and the place was clean and upscale!

I wish I could have marked 3.5 stars. This is a mixed review. The atmosphere was great!! The wine guy great! The meat board and salads and most appetizers were great. The mac and cheese was super creamy but totally bland, as was the pork shoulder. The poutine was one of the best we have ever had. I guess my biggest disappointment was the items that would have been better with some seasoning.

I went here last week for breakfast per all the hype at my job. I was extremely disappointed in the lack of customer service and food execution. I came on a Sunday when it was extremely empty, which I was surprised. I decided to sit outside and enjoy the warm weather. I waited over 30 minutes for my server to ask what I would like to order. Now mind you, it was only 2 other people outside with me. Inside the restaurant was only 6 people so I could not understand why I was waiting such a long time for my order to be taken. He finally comes to take my order and I ask for the short rib frittata and a order of the honey pancakes. Additional wait of 20 minutes for my food to arrive and for the price that they charge, the portions are small. Don't expect huge portions here...it's small plates. I had 2 slices of frittata, and since 3 mini honey pancakes. I was okay with the portion size because I wasn't starving and it was a nice bit of food for me, however, if you are starving, you might want to order extra food. I get into the frittata and it was bland bland bland! Not only was it bland, but the texture was incredibly weird. It was like eating an egg, custard sponge with chunks of potato and pieces of short rib. The only thing pleasant about it would be the short rib ju that was on top...other than that, not so good. The honey pancakes were amazing, and I should have just ordered that alone. They are very thing, and crisp on the edges. In addition, pleasantly sweet due to the honey. And of course, intelligentsia coffee is also great! If you want to try this place for breakfast, I could recommend the honey pancakes. I am not sure how many would be served in a full portion size but getting 4 would NOT be sufficient. Stay away from the frittata.

We should've been suspicious of this place when we walked in on Friday night at 7pm and this place was empty. This was the most over priced, flavorless and greasy meal I've eaten in years. I ate here for the first time expecting the food to be delicious as the yelp reviews were great. My experience was everything but that. My drink- a special on the menu- tasted like water. The rolls were dry, the butter nasty. The charcuterie was mediocre almost not even satisfactory. The cheese board was the same. After having a poor experience before the meal, I had the sense that anything off the main menu was going to be barely mediocre and might give me some sort of food poisoning so, I ordered the Veggie Burger. I was thinking ok, this is not meat so I should be ok. I wasn't and still am not. I spent the whole night tossing and turning sick to my stomach, gassy, and bloated. This was even after I had taken Tums. Here I am 13 hours later still laying in bed sick. To add, I was with a party of 6. Not sure if anyone else got sick but everyone was extremely dissatisfied with their experience as well. Each person got something different of the main menu to share with each other. Not one person enjoyed their meal. We were literally trying to find something good to say about each meal but could not. The only thing that we could compliment was the strawberry basil cocktail. That was decent. Not even the staff was nice. For example one person in our party ordered the $24 Amish Half Chicken plate. The chicken was acceptable. The rice that came with it was mixed with peas. The combination of rice and peas were undercooked and watery and had a weird flavor. We politely asked if we could trade the rice for just some plane white rice. We're paying $24 for this plate. I think switching out some undercooked rice and peas for some plane rice shouldn't be a problem. Rice literally cost pennies in the small portion that we had asked for. The answer the waiter gave us was, "We can't do it. Rice is not a side on our menu." We asked if we could switch for a side that is on the menu, possibly fries. The answer was "Then we will have to charge you for the fries." Seriously!? After asking again for the rice the waiter said we'd have to talk to the manager. Long story short, the manager eventually and reluctantly delivered us a small cup of plain white rice. Hallelujah! Praise the Good Lord. I mean Our total bill not including tip came out $255 dollars, and you had trouble sparing a small cup of white rice!? I feel bad for this place it really must be struggling. I could keep going but im too sick to bother. I highly do not recommend eating here. The food is not even close to mediocre, over priced and of a poor quality.

Took my wife and son here valentines weekend for the Sunday brunch. This was our first visit. The pancakes were wonderful! The farm fresh eggs made the pancakes light and fluffy. The Bourbon syrup was delish. My son seemed to like the cottage burger and my wife ordered the open faced ham sandwich with melted cheese all over in which she enjoyed. The food is farm fresh and right to your table. The ambiance is nice and so was the help. We also enjoyed the vanilla Gelato which was sweet and delicious. We will be returning.

My wife and I came for brunch and could not be happier! The food was excellent. Bloody Mary bar was a little crazy with 18 deferent garnishes, but still so fun. The candied bacon was out of this world. One of the few restaurants good enough to warrant calling over the manager to let them know how much we enjoyed it.

friend and I were driving down Dixie Highway and spotted this location called the Cottage. We decided to stop in for brunch on a Sunday. The greeting staff made us fee welcome. The hidden gem was the Bloody Mary bar. If you enjoy good Bloody Mary's this is the restaurant for you. In addition to a full bar staffed with an amazing bartender, they have a make your own Bloody Mary bar. The candied bacon is amazing and there is an assortment of pickled vegetables, olives plain as well as stuffed with various "random" items. 3 different types of tomato juice just to spice things up. Now that i have set the scene for you, my favorite is the smokey tomato juice with line, candied bacon, basil lime salt, dash of cayenne gently stirred with a stalk of celery. By the way the breakfast was delicious as well. The service is impeccable and the outside seating is very relaxing. I look forward to going back for dinner in the near future.

First I would like to say I'm a foody. Always in search or next best restaurant. The Cottage on Dixie is one of those resurant that belong in downtown Chicago. Food is phenomenal, service supured and Bloody Mary bar..uhh. If you are a wine person they have beautiful wine room. The restaurant has its own Green house where they grow vegetibles nd herbs. Combination of talented Chef and home grown produce makes every dish very special. No matter were you live The Cottage on Dixie is worth the trip. Giedra A.

Cottage on Dixie is a delightful place to dine in the burbs. The food was spectacular , we ordered the duck and lamb, each was better than the next. They provided excellent service as well. The wait staff was knowledgable and efficient. I'll head to Homewood soon to revisit this joint.

Posting for Wife, It has been my experience that if a restaurant can't make something as simple as a hamburger (especially when it costs 15$), better go back to the drawing board, over cooked, and one word Heinz not some over made there. Chef should take lesson from local bars, and would be half the price, will not be back and will advise others.

Finally a place in the south suburbs that's nice! I've only been twice, but both times the service was excellent, and the food was incredible! 2 days later I'm still thinking about my dinner. It's a real shame it's not busier. Was there on a Saturday night, and there were only 4 other tables there. Everybody go there right now and order lots of food!

The Cottage continues to improve. The last three times we've been there our meals have been excellent. The wait staff is attentive courteous and knowledgeable and very helpful in helping us to make a decision from what can only be described as a menu filled with culinary delights. The decor is first class and you can enjoy your meal in an atmosphere of relative quiet, which is a pleasure not often experienced in most popular establishments. We truly enjoy the Cottage now and admittedly that was not true in the past. Give yourself a taste treat and try the Cottage. We believe you will find it to be a rewarding experience.

We tried this place based on a good review and our friends ate there a week ago and loved the cottage burger. 2 of us are vegetarians and saw the cottage veggie burger on a menu that our friend brought us. we really wanted to try it. we walked in at the start of dinner hour. the first thing the waiter tells us that they are all out of the cottage veggie burger !! what? how could that be at start of dinner hour? ok so i ordered the smoked tofu. one friend ordered the regular cottage burger. we were quite disappointed. my smoked tofu was clearly not smoked at all. my friend's burger wasn't cooked as he asked for it. It was greasy and the fries it came with here soggy and gross. the other vegetarian friend had the quinoia burger, and it was good but fries were soggy and greasy. Not sure what the deal was and why they couldn't live up to reviews and expectations. just won't go back.

I went there for lunch yesterday and will definitely be back. Nicely decorated with great lighting and warm colors. I had the pasta primavera with chicken and the Italian wedding soup. Vegetables were fresh and crisp, and the chicken was so very tender--truly exemplifying the concept of farm to table. I also ordered an Autumn Fire seasonal cocktail which was on point too and didn't skimp on the alcohol. Finally found a restaurant in the area that rivals any found downtown or up north without having to make the drive!

I met two of my best friends here and it's the perfect atmosphere to catch up and be comfortable for good conversation. The service is great. The atmosphere is great. I had something to eat at home beforehand so I wasn't too hungry but prepared to try a few things. If I liked some of the small plates I would for sure return with my husband. Caesar salad- too wet on the lettuce with the dressing. Too many box croutons on the sides. They advertise Farm to table so I assumed a bit more on the preparation and in house made details. The cup of beef soup- where's the beef? 3 pieces? Hmmm hardly any flavor. The mussels- no flavor, cooked for too long, chewy mussels, smelled fishy. I had two bites and left it for the bus service. I didn't ask to take it off the bill because I was too freshly disappointed from the last restaurant I spent way too much money on and wasn't happy. And I desperately needed some out of the house girlfriend time. My friend Ruby sent her martini back before I had any complaints and I felt bad because the wait service was excellent. Too bad the kitchen couldn't back it up for me. I will try giving it a second chance but at $55 bucks all by myself and ordering small plates I may not. I'm all about spending if it's good food. But....not here. Sorry Cottage.

The cottage burger was very tasty! But before I had the burger I had the chicken split pea soup which was awesome! The white chocolate cheese cake was a winner! The service was great! I totally recommend this restaurant for their great food & service!

Great ambiance. Love the decor. Food was awesome and so where the drinks. A great date night or business meeting over lunch. Price was a little on the higher side but reasonable for the quality.

I decided to give our local high end restaurant in Homewood a try for my wife's birthday and was not disappointed. We had reservations and were seated immediately. The decor in the restaurant is rustic, modern and very well done. No space is wasted, they have a good bar, tables are comfortably spaced and there's a small sitting area with comfortable chairs which would serve well if you just want to share a drink and appetizers with your favorite people. Our server was Linda, she was excellent in every way. We had our drinks within minutes of being seated but were not rushed to order immediately. My wife and I each had the salad for appetizer, it was exceptional. There were a variety of greens and plenty of tomatoes, etc. with just enough vinaigrette drizzled over it to make it mouth-watering. My wife ordered the Lamb Shank, I the 8 oz. Filet. I am admittedly particular about wanting my steaks well done, not easily accommodated. Mine came medium well and it was perfect. My wife love the Lamb shanks and I devoured the Steak and mashed potatoes. Of course we saved room for desert! The coffee service was fine but the deserts need work. My wife ordered the cobbler and thought it lacked flavor. I order Creme Brulee. Although my Brulee was great it came in the smallest ramican I have ever laid eyes on, maybe 2 or 3 ounces. I have never had less in any restaurant I've had the pleasure of visiting. If I'm going to feel guilty for eating desert I want to really feel guilty so bring on a decent, normal sized desert. All in all the experience was terrific, fix the deserts and it is exceptional in every way.

I'm so disappointed. I went back recently and the food has changed. The menu is not as exciting or creative as it used to be and the food is not at the same level. Perhaps it's just the summer menu? I'm hoping that is the case. If you do go, please do not get the risotto because it's not cooked properly - it's undercooked and tasteless.

The Cottage has the best burgers in the south suburbs! Heard about them on Chicago's best and visited! What a great find the food is absolutely AMAZING!! The environment is totally 4 star!! The retired couple that are the owners my actually visit your table to say hello. The brunch included an AMAZING Bloody Mary bar! Best ever. Only reason I didn't give 5 stars is due to the fact they aren't open on Sunday evenings. On Sunday they close after brunch at 3:00. However don't keep this from your going during the week or on Saturday. Great south suburban find.

I have gone here twice already and both times the service and food have been excellent!! It's so nice to see a restaurant that takes pride in what they serve and farm to table fresh foods with a new menu every month!! Usually you have to go to downtown Chicago to get such a thing, but not anymore! I've been to both lunch and dinner here and I've enjoyed every bite of it! Their cottage burger and tempura vegetables are delicious! Now let's not forget their warm, savory bread that's made fresh!! They have an extensive drink menu and based on the beers my husband and father in law had, they loved them. Their fresh made lemonade is great as well! I also had their banana cream pie with their homemade pie crust! The ambiance and decor is amazing! It really feels like a cozy cottage. It doesn't feel like you're in the Homewood/Flossmoor area at all!! This is a must try place if you live in the area or are driving by. I'll definitely be back, many many more times, just to see what they cook up next!!!

We recently moved from the city to the south suburbs, and I've been unhappily impressed with the dearth of decent, let alone good, restaurants. So we were pleased when The Cottage opened. We come here two-three times a month and have generally had good meals. The ambiance is great, the bar is comfortable and they serve some inventive cocktails (for those of you into the craft cocktail craze), have a decent selection of wines and a great selection of micro-brewed beers, many of them local. The new menu features some inventive dishes, including a killer fried polenta-prawn-pork belly appetizer and (according to my wife) a to-die-for seafood risotto. Service is very friendly if a bit spotty in terms of attentiveness. I definitely recommend this place and hope my fellow south suburbanites will support this place.

Excellent craft cocktails and wine/beer list in a warm, well appointed bar with fireplace. Food a tad overpriced and not terribly memorable. I've heard that the weekend end brunch Bloody Mary bar is excellent so we'll try that out in the future.

Wow so glad we finally checked this place out. Interior is beautiful and wait staff was pleasant and helpful. We did not partake in the bloody mary bar but it looked fresh with an unbelievable amount of garnish options. I had the buttermilk pancakes and they were perfect. We will definitely be back.

The best burger I've had in a long time! Great atmosphere, wonderful service, and fantastic food. It is a little more upscale, but we went for lunch one day and drove 30 minutes just to have the burgers. Highly recommend.

The gist of this review is: This is the nicest, most innovative place you can find in the suburbs (even by city standards). Don't be scared; go there now. Full disclosure: I live in Chicago so less traditional food and higher prices don't bother me very much. You get what you pay for in quality here, and it's unlike anything you've ever had. I'm also originally from the area, so I've been really excited to see a city-caliber place like this pop. If that makes me biased, so be it. Maybe you normally eat at Applebee's or Olive Garden and you think it's the best thing ever getting a steak the size of your head or enough loaded mashed potatoes to drown a horse. If you do, THIS PLACE IS STILL FOR YOU! Get outside your comfort zone. If non-bacon-and-gravy things like watermelon radish and bourbon maple syrup seem weird to you, you need to try this place even more. It will save you! I've been 4 or 5 times now and have yet to be disappointed. Whether getting a tour of their on-site greenhouse, talking with the manager about their incredibly unique beer/wine/cocktail list and pairing events, or checking out the monthly "regional cuisine of the world" menu, this place goes above and beyond in every way. If you live in the city, make the trip down here because it's worth it. If you're a skeptic from the suburbs, just go try it. If you don't like it, come leave negative feedback on my review and head to Culver's down the street. Even if all the people scared of a slightly higher bill and new foods went just once a year for their anniversary or something (treat her right, guys), that's enough to keep this place going. The area needs a place like this, so let's make sure we keep it around.

The Cottage is a difficult place to review. It has a well-kept and pleasant interior that's very welcoming, and exceptionally gracious waitstaff. While our meal was pleasant, there are certainly kinks in all aspects of the business that need ironing out at the management level. Take my meal, for instance. I had the French Toast on my brother's recommendation, which is served with whipped cream and maple syrup. These are three of my favorite foods, which bodes well. The French toast was easily some of the best I have ever eaten too; delicately crisp on the outside and wonderfully tender in the center, with a perfect blend of cinnamon, egg, vanilla, cream and bread that absolutely sings! I thought it was high priced at $9.00, especially considering the runny (albeit homemade) whipped cream and smallish amount of (albeit real) maple syrup that was presented alongside. In addition, I ordered the lamb sausage which sounded enticing. I received a single, 3-inch diameter patty with the grainy consistency and one-dimensional flavor of liver and kidneys cooked to well-done.. There was no discernible spicing, seasoning or even fat to the sausage; and for what is a first in my life, I actually had to salt and pepper a sausage patty. Not good. My other diners fared better, but none were completely satisfied. The steak sandwich was declared good, but the finely diced potatoes, peppers and onions that made up the hash browns were wet and underdone with no crispness. My mother's dramatic sounding hamburger was made of half ground beef short ribs and half another rich beef cut, but it was more like medium-well than the ordered medium rare. My brother's eggs were perfect, but again the hash browns disappointed. The ingredient quality and presentation are there. There are sparks of greatness in the food, like the bacon on the hamburger -- my mother is tough to please, and she was very impressed with that -- but on the whole, it was a bit of a letdown. Service was attentive and involved, but not necessarily on the right wavelength. I'm out with my family who I saw twice last year and with a newborn child. I don't want to hear about the restaurant concept, nor do I need an explanation of every menu item. I don't fault my waiter for that; in fact, I'm proud of his follow through on what his managers and the restaurant owners told him to do. However, it came off as canned or assigned. As waitstaff, you need to be able to read the situation, and it was obvious we just wanted our meal and not the play-by-play. Also, for brunch there is a bloody mary bar good enough to make any Wisconsinite proud. I highly recommend their organic house vodka, "American Harvest". It is grain based so watch out if you have a gluten sensitivity, but it is an exceptionally crisp vodka with a clean-sweet finish. It's an good choice for a bloody Mary, and I bet it would be excellent in a greyhound. Overall, I feel that The Cottage on Dixie has a scads of potential and could be a really great place. Sadly, at the moment they need to make some changes in their recipes, cooking, service, and advertising to get there. My opinion is that they have the basics in place but just aren't executing. There's a ton of potential...a great example of this is a port wine and cheese tasting event this upcoming month at a very reasonable price that none of my dining companions had heard of, despite the fact they are residents of Homewood! I encourage you to visit The Cottage on Dixie and hope ownership makes the right fixes to make that visit enjoyable. It's a place with a lot of potential that could be truly great with the right changes.

If I've had a better meal in my life? I'd be lying. The Cottage on Dixie brings a level of sophistication, care, and grandeur to the south suburbs the likes I'd honestly never thought possible. Am I using a bit too much hyperbole? I sure am. But when I am this satisfied? It's perfectly acceptable to take things to the Nth degree. But I digress; how about a real review? My wife and I were so very lucky to finally afford a date night. I should preface this review by saying that we'd both read the other yelpers reviews, as well as trolled their facebook page enough to have proper expectations. That being said: everything was as we expected it to be. The ambiance is upscale rustic. We did not feel under-dressed in nice jeans. Sure other patrons may have been more business casual, but upon walking in, the atmosphere is one of relaxed class. Here is a place where yes you'll spend a pretty penny... but no one is expecting you to dust off the sport coat. To me, this is as it should be. The celebration of the Cottage is of its farm-to-table fare, and fine beverage service. Speaking of, how about a quick run down? We were given an amuse bouche; the daintiest 5 spoonfuls of a cucumber/coconut soup. Homemade bread was served alongside a plate of olive oil and balsamic vinegar. Not a taste we'd tried before, and it was well placed. Upon suggestion by our fine server, Eric, we tried the chef's appetizer of the day: a Barbados inspired flat bread topped with mozzarella, tomato jam, and prosciutto. It was astounding; crispy, salty, sweet, and properly balanced. For our entrees: My wife had the flat iron steak served over spelt alongside 2 jumbo shrimp and seabeans, I had pollo ala braza served over poblano mash and green beans. Every bite was delicious... and most important? Balanced. The chefs should be commended on being able to put out a plate of food that is as well thought out as we could ever expect. Dessert? Of course! My wife had a creme brulee, and I tried a chef's special pound cake. If I were to say one dastardly thing, it'd be that the poundcake was a tad dry. While yes, it was served alongside a plethora of accoutrements (local strawberries, marscarpone creme, olive oil powder, and some broken crispy crumb), at the core the actual cake itself wasn't as up-to-snuff as everything else. Suffice to say, the Cottage on Dixie may be the most expensive plate of food you'll purchase in Homewood... but it is assuredly the best. From the attentive and personable wait staff to the brilliant chefs, I could not be happier. Save up a few sheckles, and do yourself a favor and treat yourself to something that'll remind you what the difference is between farm-to-table and factory-to-deep-fryer.

I went to The Cottage on Dixie for dinner with a friend and had a fantastic experience. I ate the vegetarian offering which was by far the best I've had...most places throw a "vegetarian" dish on the menu with very little effort, but this dish had so much flavor and was presented beautifully! Even my friend who loves meat, loved this dish. The staff was very attentive, even on a busy Saturday night. What a delight to have a creative selection of liquors- not your boring, standard brands. My friend had the mango margarita which was out of this world! Looks like they have the courage to offer something unique to the area, which is greatly needed. Thank you!!!

I had NY Strip steak ... Very well prepared, good wine too. No doubt the food was better than some of the best restaurants in Chicago. Very few restaurants are this good and those few (e.g., Tru on St Clair) are a lot more expensive.

The Cottage On Dixie is delivering what it has promised. I was there last Sunday night with a couple of friends and sat outside on the patio. Our server Mark had the right balance of attentiveness and reserve, checking in on us but not being a pest. His recommendations were spot on. We tried some things we may not have otherwise: flatbread (VG) prosciutto | pepper jelly | rocket greens | 9; venison tartar (GF) black garlic emulsion | chive chips | 9; red snapper (GF) tomato rice | cilantro oil | roasted corn mousse | 23; lamb 7.0 (GF) new zealand lamb rack | lamb sausage | orzo house dried tomatoes | feta | 30; chickpea gateau (V) tomato broth | feta | crispy chickpeas |19; I tasted all of them and all of them delivered! The flavors are on the plate! I'm at a stage in my life where I would prefer quality over quantity and this is a great example. The portions are correct for the high quality ingredients and delicious flavors. We did not go away hungry. But if you are looking for a gut busting all-you-can-eat buffet, then this place is not for you. If, however, you are interested in creative culinary creations, perfectly pretty presentations, and excellence all around - check it out! I've dined there a few times and they have definitely been working out kinks and getting their "legs" - a young (and attractive) waitstaff is also sometimes a little misguided and trying too hard. But the food, flavors, atmosphere, and service all come together for an excellent dining experience. Their competitors (although there are none doing anything close to this) should take notice just on the simple fact that we were NOT RUSHED and WARNED that the kitchen was closing. There have been so many times that I have gone to other places around in the south suburbs where the server makes it clear they are doing you a big favor by letting you eat there and you better not hold them up; and they clean around your table trying to give you the hint to leave. At the Cottage on Dixie we were welcomed, and not rushed, even thought they closed at 9 on a Sunday night, we sat until 9:30 (because we were enjoying ourselves so much and lost track of time) and they never once made us feel unwelcome. I am going back for sure, soon, and often. I highly recommend.

I live and work in the area and I so wanted to like The Cottage. Fine dining in my own backyard? Who could ask for anything more. And I have been there twice for dinner and each time walked away disappointed. The first time I was there the food was ok at best. I had a butternut squash soup as well as a scallop entree. The soup was bland and tasteless as was the scallops. To be fair, the scallops were cooked perfectly they just weren't seasoned. Which is surprising because the only thing well cooked scallops need for seasoning is kosher salt and fresh ground pepper. I figured that they deserved a second chance so back to the Cottage I went. This time I had a rosemary lamb entree which was completely inedible. It had such a strong rosemary flavor that I immediately gagged when I put it in mouth. It took every ounce of my self control to swallow that first bite. And afterwards I sat there for at least 5 minutes willing myself not to vomit it back up. It was THAT grotesque. Now the appetizer was actually quite taste, it was a chicken flatbread which I enjoyed immensely. I can say that the restaurant itself is beautiful. I would definitely go back for a glass of wine after work but I will be hard pressed to order ANY food off the menu until they get a new chef. While I appreciate the use of organic produce. fresh herbs, grass fed beef and wild caught seafood, those things do not matter when the food simply does not taste good. Especially when both times, our bill, for two ppl, was over $130. Therefore I beseech the owners to PLEASE do something about the current chef bc he is going to run them out of business.

I met my family here for my brother's 18th birthday. The place has good ambiance, but that is pretty much the only positive thing I have to say about it. In my opinion, the menu was a little too strange, and was way overpriced for the portion size. We started with the mozzarella trio & crab fritters which were both just ok. We ordered shortly after getting the apps & our food didnt come out for almost an hour! I got the scallops, which were completely burnt and rubbery, I had to send them back. And three scallops for almost $30? Please. Needless to say, we ordered pizza when we got home.

The building seemed to have been thoughtfully designed to reflect the Cottage's dining philosophy, so I expected the dining experience to be rustic, comfortable, warm, and of high quality. The restaurant's staff strives to meet this standard, which may be easier to achieve with wood and stone than with perishables (such as people and food). We dined here on a Saturday night. The staff seemed almost too eager to please. When my venison tartare did not arrive on time, the chef sent two dishes with his compliments. Later, he came to our table to apologize to see if I was happy with the dish. I wasn't unhappy. It was good. The house red wine was good, the warm forest salad was tasty and satisfying (though maybe a little bland, as a previous reviewer said). The food was very good and the tab was very reasonable. I hope the staff will grow into this place, set roots, and offer a warmer, even more satisfying dining experience. It may take some time to get established and reflect the diversity of the clientele.

The place has a very comfy look and feel. The noise-sound level was warm instead of loud. There was plenty of room to wait for a table even on a busy night. There was a nice selection of specialty liquor but some missing standards. No Bombay Saphire. O the down side ... the food and plates were barely warm, the lights were brighter in the central bar area than in the dining area, the venison carpacio was so thin it should have been inhaled not eaten ... the tables were so close together that the party next to us knocked over a water glass on our table when trying to get by ... the manager was having a bad day because he spilled so he hung out talking to staff instead of patrons ... there was no front of house. The kids working there are trying to learn the business. A kid came out with a modern iron to smooth the table cloth o the table but it didn't work. Odd. I want it to work but didn't see hands-on attention to detail.

Great food, wonderful ambiance, and spectacular service; what more could you ask for? Eric, one of the servers told my husband and I about The Cottage and how great it was going to be, he was right! I went a few weeks ago with a girlfriend and the couple of appetizers I ordered were just enough for me. My friend ordered the salmon dish and it was delicious! The blueberry creme cocktail was so yummy. Our server, Matt, was very attentive and had a great personality without being over bearing. The only thing, which was no fault of The Cottage, were the two women who sat near us--- they complained about everything! Why is it so dark in here, what is this stuff I'm the little bowl, I can't pronounce this, what is that.... OMG! It's called ambiance and fine dining. If they wanted large ordinary portions and a lot of light then they should have gone to IHOP! Some people are culturally and socially clueless. Okay, besides these two, everything was perfect! I will definitely be a regular, I'm so glad it's close to home! I would like to see a more expanded menu though. Keep up the GREAT job guys!

Me and my lady went there day after Valentine's Day for brunch and it was whack don't get me wrong the service was okay but the eggs scramble to hard that this so-called lamb sausage they had overcooked it the first time sent it back then he came back undercook bacon pancakes burned on the top not to mention that it took almost an hour before we got our food got there 10:00 we didn't receive our food until 10:45 and we only order breakfast.. WTF! Only thing good about brunch is the unlimited vodka for 17$ that's it I would waste the money or time there are a lot of better brunches out there for less money

I've been there several times and have enjoyed it immensely each time. The ambiance is lovely. They have a great wine list, the food has been fabulous (scallops are my fav so far) and the service has been great! Eric and Gail have taken great care of myself, friends & family and Mark stopped me from falling on ice outside :) It is a different type of restaurant for this area but that's part of why it's great..check it out with an open mind!

This is something we really need in the southern suburbs. A nice restaurant to head out to for a "date night" or other special occasions - but don't let me lead you to believe this is only a special occasion place. It's not. What will be different about this is that they will have a "guest menu" that will change every few months and will offer fare from other parts of the world. So unlike just a daily special, they will boast a special menu that will last for 3 or so months. Even tho the soft opening lunch menu was limited to 7 items, it was still very hard to choose from. I decided on the Duck Cobb salad which had shredded duck, hard boiled duck egg, tomatoes, citrus, Spanish chorizo, cheese, and blood orange vinaigrette on beautiful greens. It was filling and very pleasing to the eye. My husband had the Cottage Burger with duck prosciutto, fried duck egg and home made ketchup, and was cooked to his liking. This was delicious as well. How can you go wrong when it's a bacon burger with fried egg anyway? The cocktail and beer menus look great and can't wait to try some of their concoctions like the Raspberry Green Tea Martini. The place is beautiful, very comfortable and friendly. I would feel comfortable coming to dinner all dressed up but it's no so upscale that I would feel out of place wearing nice jeans. I am SO looking forward to coming back after the grand opening this weekend!

The food was good, but both of my experiences there (once for dinner, once for brunch) left more to be desired. I was there on a Saturday night for dinner. The restaurant was not busy. There were MANY people working on the floor, yet it took us 20 minutes to get our appetizer (cheese board), and when our appetizer came, we still had not received our wine. Busboys were walking around with irons, ironing tablecloths after they were put on tables. Not only did I find this incredibly tacky, but also slightly dangerous If someone bumped into them, they could get burned. When I went back for brunch, also on a Saturday morning, the floor had clearly not been vacuumed and again, our service was similar to our first experience there.

Very nice and romantic setting for lunch or dinner. Beautiful decor. Inventive menu with GREAT (lots of craft choices) beer and wine selection. Not a lot of food but very nicely presented and prepared. Have had brunch (Bloody Mary bar options are great!), tasty but I'm not sure the selections are for everyone. And the prices are pretty steep. Dinner is where it's at if you're going to splurge. Great service and knowledgeable staff. Looking forward to going again to try some small bites (cheese and charcuterie) for date night.

The first time my wife and I visited Cottage on Dixie, we were impressed. Both the food and service rivaled that of any restaurant in the Southland area. The veggie burger was unbelievable and I am not vegetarian. We enjoyed it so much my wife and I decided to come back with family and friends to celebrate my wife's upcoming birthday. That was this past Saturday(4/12/14) and the service was horrible. I want to like this place because I love their ideology and the concept of Farm-to-table but our experience was vastly inconsistent between the two visits. Our server was Not attentive at all and didn't explain the concept of the restaurant, didn't tell us about the specials and didn't explain or describe any of the entrees. It took over 30 min to get bread and about another 30 minutes before having our order taken. We had a group of about 10 and the restaurant didn't appear incredibly busy. There were maybe 4 other tables with 2-4 people each and at least 2 servers on duty. The server just appeared to not care. The food was received with mixed reviews amongst my guests. Everyone with burgers, both veggie burgers and the Cottage burgers seemed fairly content. Everyone else said their dishes were fairly average. Good restaurants are hard to come in the south suburbs and I want to promote this place but I was let down. I hope they make adjustments quickly. I am willing to give it another chance but I might have to dine alone next time

First time here, not good. Carry-out; salmon po'boy and falafel platter. Excited at first, since it's a new up-scale place, great atmosphere, but the food was awful. The Falafel was dry, was powdered mixture, like chewing on dry corn meal. Salmon po'boy; veggies were great tasting, salmon was the not the best quality...good, but a little funky. Fries; cold, dry, hard, non-edible. What astonishes me is the cucumber salad was fresh, light and tasty, but the other food tasted pre-frozen and cheap. 2 stars for cucumber salad & atmosphere. I'll give this second place a chance if they get Gordon Ramsey- sorry.

First of all the ambience is amazing. Service was good. My main complaint is they ran out of salmon at around 6:00 on a Saturday. So in its place I ordered the squash. Bad decision. In my opinion, not a very good meal. Also when the server asked to take my p,ate away there was 75-80% of my food left on my plate. I would have suspected in most restaurants at this price point I would have been asked if everything was okay. Server never asked. Desert was great. High priced for he small portion size.

All of the highest cuisine of the city of Chicago available in the south suburbs at an amazing cost! Every time I come here the menu has more than just a few things that must be consumed. The staff is always great and loves to encourage new things. It's perfect that they do because the menu always changes and aims to please. The bar is one of the best parts or this restaurant. The manager, Robert keeps the wine list top notch and the other bartenders like Ryan build perfect drinks. Not to mention the impressive bloody Mary bar on Sundays. If you live with 20 miles of this place you owe it to yourself to at least check it out. You're not going to find this quality, great price, and valuable experience anywhere else. The Cottage on Dixie is breaking ground in the south side of Chicago and I can't wait to see this business bloom and build more restaurants all over Illinois and beyond!

Well, we went back on Saturday night and weren't disappointed. Everything was really top notch. A true gem in the south suburbs. Started at the bar with a few drinks and the cheese plate before we moved to the table. Caught the first half of the Hawks game. I had the blue corn crab fritters to start and the flat iron steak. Both made to perfection. My wife had the venison tartare and the halibut. She is still talking about them. And then the desert. And none of the portions were huge, which is good. They are the size they should be. This is how dining should be and I hope it is a continuation of a trend back to the way dining was. Good qualifty meal at a reasonable price. I am so glad we have someplace like this close to home. And it really isn't just for special occassions. Heck, just chilling out at the bar with a beer and nice appitizer during the week would be cool too.

We dined at The Cottage multiple times and are certainly glad it is open and in our neighborhood. The room is absolutely lovely--a comfortable space filled with warm woods and kind lighting. On our most recent visits, the restaurant appears to be hitting its stride. The bar is a great place for a drink and a casual meal. There is a good assortment of wines and a large selection of craft beers on tap. I have come to be a big fan of the Abita Turbo Dog--a rich dark brew with hints of chocolate. Yummy! My wife is a big fan of the house Manhattan. If you like bourbon, this is a great cocktail! We've also enjoyed the special bar menu, including the trio of sliders (salmon tartare, duck, and short ribs) and the charcuterie plate. In he main dining room, the meals keep getting better and better. The smoked scallops, mussels, salmon, and chicken dishes are are very tasty and well worth having. Of the 4, the chicken is for the hungry and the scallops for the flavor (there were only 4 very large scallops on the plate). One special that really sang was the black cod in a light broth. The fish was perfectly prepared. Tonight I had the "tomahawk" ribeye. It was a great piece of meat, perfectly cooked, and well-sauced. The meat, attached to a large rib was dramatic in presentation and so very delicious that I can't wait to have it again. Alas, it is only available on weekends. Bring a friend and share it! New to the menu is a burger. That label, however, does fairly describe the quality of this delicious addition. Beef brisket and short rib meats replace the traditional ground chuck, making this burger is oh so flavorful and a big step up from average. The cheese and smoked bacon on make this delicious choice at lunch or dinner. Oh, and did I mention that it comes with great fries! Another nice addition is the baked goods. The pastry chef talented, and you won't be disappointed. Before taking a seat for a meal, check out the assortment of cupcakes, tarts, and cookies in the display case to near the bar. I'm a big fan of the chocolate chip cookies (a bargain at 3 for a buck) and the macaroons are a flavorful work of art. We enjoy eating meals at the bar where the drinks are reasonable (my wife if a big fan of the Manhattan) and the assortment of craft beers ever changing. The bartenders are happy to pour a sample of a beer to introduce you to some great new tastes. The Cottage keeps getting better and better. By all means, give it a try!

This place is awesome. On Monday I had the best steak sandwich of my life. Thin, stacked slices of tender, melt-in-your-mouth steak served with some pesto, ground walnuts and a faintly garlic aioli on a home-made bun. The sandwich came with tasty European-style fries and homemade catsup. Had a freshly made paczki that was still warm for dessert - the pastry chef came out and chatted with us. My husband and teenaged son also loved their meals. The Cottage had been promoted as a gourmet restaurant when it opened (and it certainly is) but the prices are quite reasonable, especially brunch and lunch, and there doesn't seem to be an expectation that you have to dress up. I'm looking forward to having a drink and appetizer by the fireplace with some girlfriends this weekend.

Great dining in the suburbs! Atmosphere is cozy, service was great, and everything we ordered was delicious. Definitely one of the best dining experiences in the area.

We'd heard a lot of mixed reviews about The Cottage and were eager to try it out for ourselves...My husband and I went with my parents, who live in the area and we were all- even the cynics- very pleasantly surprised. The ambiance is reminiscent of a ski resort restaurant. The menu features lots of organics and sustainable fish. I had the trout and it was OUTSTANDING and the side dishes were inventive, unique and tasty. The wine list was also very respectable- a bit on the pricey side, but comparable to any big city list. I am a sucker for an Oregon Pinot Gris and the selection here was excellent. I'm also very excited that they serve Gruet as their sparkling wine, despite the fact that a flute of it will run you $10- almost as much as a bottle of the brut variety. There was a bit too much chocolate on the dessert menu for me but I wanted to try one of the house-made cream puffs in the case by the door. Unfortunately, they'd sold out on the Saturday night we were there. Our reservation had been at 8 p.m. so I don't know if we were just too late or what, but we'll definitely be back and hope to try it then.

I've started coming here on a semi regular basis because i love this place so much! It's about time something like this came to the south suburbs. I've sat in the main dining room, the "lounge" area, and the bar, and have been impressed every time. The servers and bartenders are attentive and knowledgeable. The food is phenomenal and high quality, from their dinner entrees, including the salmon with parsnip puree and their themed/seasonal entrees, such as the Brazilian braised pork, to their lunch items, including the lobster roll served on a croissant, to the fireside options, which have included vegetable tempura and duck mole sliders. Also, if specialty spirits and cocktails interest you, this is the place to go. My personal favorite is the negroni made with small batch botanical gin. They also have an extensive wine and craft beer list. In general, this is a place that offers something a little more special and out of the ordinary. The place itself is classy and comfortable with a great setup and mood lighting, whether you're looking to have a more formal dinner, relax by the fireplace, or feel a little more casual at the bar (where they do offer the full menu). I also appreciate their commitment to sourcing locally whenever possible for all of their offerings.

Terrible food portions are tiny. Twice the portions with ten times the service at half the price down the street at Balagios. We actually stood up and walked out it was so bad!!!!

I tried lunch at The Cottage on Dixie and was blown away at how good it was! The staff was very friendly, knowledgable and provided great service. The head chef even came out and introduced himself which was very cool! The food is great because I know it's fresh, they serve proper portion size which is so important when trying to stay healthy! Every time I've left I leave satisfied but not stuffed which is great! Finally I recommend you have a glass of wine, they have some amazing wines!

Despite negative reviews from a number of friends I called for a description of their lunch menu and was told I could view it on line. If I wanted to see it on line I wouldn't have called. First interaction with them was very poor.

GREAT food, BEAUTIFUL interior, like a warm lodge in Aspen. It's so nice to have a fine dining restaurant in the south burbs. My only complaint would be the limited options on the menu, but I still had a delicious lunch.

Outstanding. Venue...service...food...all outstanding. This is a premium experience. My wife and I went for dinner with friends not knowing what to expect. We were not disappointed in the least. Virtually every person we encountered who worked there had an obvious mission- to make sure we have a fabulous dining experience. I highly recommend this restaurant. And please note that as word gets out, reservations are sure to be more challenging.

The only reason to go to this restaurant is to view its interior. It is lovely and it is difficult to believe that it once was a Baker's Square, although the food quality was on a par. It is overpriced for the area and they are just trying too hard to be "in" and they are failing, as evidenced by the fact that on Tuesday night there were a total of 8 diners (from our vantage point) in attendance the entire evening. The panzanella salad was ALL bread with exactly 5 pieces of tiny micro greens-really? The Eggplant Parmesan was a deconstructed poor attempt at a dish and was unappealing. We were still eating our appetizers when they came out with our main course- I can't remember the last time I was at any restaurant that couldn't figure out how to timely serve it customers- again remember NO ONE was there. I wish we had gone to the restaurant next store which, at the very least, is consistent with its offerings. Maybe it was a bad night but it was really bad. PS ask about the prices on the specials. The steak we were told was $60!!!!!!
