I really tried to like Eat Rice since it's a local establishment and easy to get too. The restaurant is very cozy, cute, and clean. I've actually eaten here about 10 times and the food is reasonably priced. But honestly, the food quality is inconsistent. Sometimes it's decent ...Well all food tastes decent when you're hungry. And sometimes the food is nasty as ever. Well last night was officially the last time I will eat there. The food was flavorless!!!!!! The Crab Ragoons were very tiny, dried out, and they tasted old. The Egg Foo young patties were loose and runny, greasy; skimpy on the ingredients, only 2 shrimps per patty, and it was just basically a scrambled egg! The rice was overcooked and sticky. The egg rolls were small, dried out, flavorless, and dry. I couldn't even identify what ingredients when in there. Then on top of that I got a tummy ache directly after eating it. The best part of the mean was the fortune cookie...... Anyhow, I've learned my lesson. "NO MO EAT RICE!!!"

This place gives Chi Tung a run for their money. The orange chicken was amazing, the pineapple chicken was very good, the beef and broccoli was tasty, the egg rolls and spring rolls were good, and the crab rangon was amazing. Drink selection could be better. One of the best Chinese places I have eaten at.

Pretty solid Chinese takeout. Orange chicken is the standout. Avoid the healthy options if you're fussy about how your chicken looks or tastes. It's not super appetizing -- but I'm sure it's healthier!

I give this restaurant 0 stars!!! Only gave it 1 star because it's required by yelp!! The service is terrible. When we arrived I noticed a sign on the door advertising their own homemade green tea. We decided to dine in. The server came to our table asking for our order as if she's in a rush and immediately displayed a nasty disposition. I asked for a hot cup of their home made green tea and was told I could only have it cold or iced. To make a long story short when my food arrived it wasn't what I thought I ordered. My beef was breaded and I didn't expect breaded beef and it wasn't indicated on the menu that it is breaded. I told the waitress who initially ignored me. The manager came over and said,"there's nothing wrong with our food. You need to ask questions if you don't understand Chinese food restaurants".. Well, I never said there was something wrong with the dish. I simply said I wasn't expecting breaded beef; especially if it wasn't indicated on the menu. They were extremely rude and refused to take the charge off of our bill or offered to replace the dish with something else. Never once was I asked, "How could I accommodate you".. Even a simple, "I'm sorry" would have been nice... My boyfriend who is also Asian didn't appreciate our service either... Shame on you Eat Rice!!!

This place is a hidden gem!! They properly season each menu item and inquired if I wanted it made spicier. It is a BYOB restaurant, so bring in beer, wine / mixed drinks and get your Chinese on!! Gotta try the Singapor Chinese Noodle and the Egg Foo Yung with a tub of Brown Gravy and White Rice. This place is super clean and a must for local Chinese fare!!

We have been going here for over a year and have never had a complaint. The food is always good. My family and I usually get the beef lo mein, general tso chicken which is a little spicy, but good, my 9 year old eats it and fried ragoons. We get the large sizes and average about $22.00, this comes with white rice and a few fortune cookies. I think that's a good price for a family of 5 to eat from. The restaurant is clean and the service fast and friendly. The parking can be a little frustrating at times, but theirs the parking lot across the street. Dine in or take out, we like it here and hope you do too. = )

I would say this is the best asian take-out restaurants I've been too. That is saying a lot since I frequent many asian restaurants. The combo meals are great, filing, and extremely affordable. Sweet & sour chicken as well as sesame chicken are some of the best dishes I've had at Eat Rice. Also, anyone who frequents Eat Rice knows the crab rangoon is by far the best in the area. Overall, a great place to pick-up an affordable, yet delicious, lunch or dinner.

We ate at Eat Rice when we lived in Homewood often. Since we moved to the city, we haven't found Chinese food that compares yet! The sesame chicken is amazing and their sweet and sour sauce is NORMAL (red in color and actually sweet/sour), unlike here in the city where it's pink and gross looking and tastes all watered down and like wet dog. Anyway, the prices are great, the food is amazing and we still drive from the North side of Chicago down to Homewood to gorge in some Eat Rice from time to time. Highly recommended!!!

Can't go wrong with either General Tso's chicken or Bean Curd! My favorite every time. Eat Rice isn't anything fancy, but is a great local joint for affordable weekly take out. The bubble tapioca smoothies are really yummy, and my 6 year old's favorite "treat". The portions are great for those of us wanting to save some for lunch the next day, and they offer both white or brown rice, which is nice to those of us who generally toss out the white rice! The staff is always very friendly and always joke around with my little boy. Tables and restrooms are always clean, no gross sticky tables to be found :)

This place is comparable to other chinese take-out offerings. It's nothing remarkable, but their food is delicious and a good value all the same. Their lunch menu is a great bargain, and my hunger has always been satisfied by the generous portions you get. I always order the orange chicken lunch with the wonton soup, and I have never been let down.

I eat here at least once a week. Pan fried dumplings, cashew chicken, and crab rangoon. You definitely can not go wrong here, and the large entrees are a HUGE amount of food for a very reasonable price. These 3 items are under 20 bucks together and could feed 4 people. Love you Eat Rice, don't you go anywhere.

It's nice to be able to drink boba tea without having to drive to Chicago. Their food is okay...a bit pricey and I'm never full, but more the grease makes me nauseous. 4 stars from me because they're nice, it's clean, cool shirt you can buy and the boba tea is just so good with tapioca!!

Bland and boring but perhaps leaving the orders up to my Irish brother in law led us down that road once again... Chinese cuisine that left us with full bellys and no cravings for our leftovers. The best part of the order was the texture of the Lo Mein noodles and tasty tasty fortune cookies... the bland chewy beef with Chinese vegetables made me sleepy and searching for some salt. I just don't get it... there are Billions of Chinese enjoying this food everyday but I just can't get it right at these locals spots. I definitely need to head down to Chinatown someday soon for a little menu advice.

Carried out some dinner here last night. They were open on Christmas, which was great! But I was very underwhelmed by the food. We ordered a huge selection of different dishes, and nothing stood out to me. Most of the food was pretty bland and boring, and all of it looked the same (we actually had a hard time telling the dishes apart from one another). Nothing was bad, but nothing was very good either. There's plenty of better options out there in my opinion.

The chicken wings have a good flavor to them. Idk what it is but they aren't ordinary chicken wings. The food is a little expensive for my liking but it's good! I will definitely be back!

One of my favorites!!!! Best lo mein and chicken noodle soup! They never give me a hard time about being picky on.the veggies, which is great!!! Always hot, fresh and delicious!!

First time here and I haven't one bad thing to say. Employees are super nice and helpful! Food is delicious. An elderly man came in while I was eating and he had questions about a few items on the menu at the counter. They patiently answered any and all questions. The elderly man apologized and the employee said 'not a problem, my pleasure'. They handled it perfectly. What a fantastic little gem!

This place has the best chinese food for the price in illinois especially the lunch menu. Fresh fruit smoothies. They also have low calorie entrees steemed shrimp and veg. Get the house soup with a side of rice if you want to be different. Sweet and sour is awesome. Fried dough!!! Lol ask for the house home made mustard its insanse people dont know ;)

Great chinese, healthy preparation. The General TSO's chicken was phenomenal. Suggestion: get the large fried rice, the pint is pretty small. I work downtown and frequent Joy Yee Noodle, and this place is the only spot in the Homewood Flossmoor area that's pretty good. Don't let the yellow rice scare you, I almost didn't try them b/c of it....and would've missed out!

Delicious! I've been eating here often, you could tell everything is made fresh to order! Staff is nice for the most part, clean atmosphere, my Chinese top-spot for sure!! (FYI- very picky about Chinese food)

Decent cheap food. They make pretty awesome crab ragoons, and everything else I ordered was good. The portions were large and they lasted for a few meals! They send out coupons a lot too :)

This is our "weekly" chinese place. We mostly eat in their nice dining room but sometimes we order carry out. It is really good, cheap chinese food. It is incredible how much food they give you for under $10. We've never been unhappy. Everyone who works there speaks Chinese (I assume anyway), and the children of the family who own it often can be seen playing or being kept busy in the dining room. For dining room ambience, this is the best Chinese restaurant in Homewood. And it is a short walk from several excellent bars and the whole downtown area.

Any time a Chinese restaurant offers a dish with tomatoes in it, there's a scant chance it's anything but terrible. I wasn't expecting anywhere near an authentic experience, but usually even at the worst Americanized carry-out Chinese places, one can count on the chow fun at least being edible. Not so here. I'd have given up half the meat in the dish for just a touch of sauce. This was like eating dry spaghetti with sauteed vegetables. The meat certainly hadn't been cooked with the rest of it. The noodles were still folded and stuck together, which is to be expected to a degree in this dish, but these were like solid chunks of rice cake. Even the fried rice was horrible. Plus they were rude.

Chinese food - tasty and cheap. I love the smoothies with the tapioca - yum!! The pan fried dumplings are very good and the hot and sour soup is some of the best I've ever had. They sell their t-shirts for $9.99... hubby wants one... maybe for Christmas!! =]

On 01 Feb 12, I stopped by Eat Rice & ordered the Shrimp & broccoli/brown rice lunch special. Service was good, prices affordable. Unfortunately my food was tasteless! The brown rice, tasted like I was eating shredded cardboard, & the shrimp & broccoli smelled & tasted like it could've been weeks old by the stale fishy odor upon removing the plastic top lid from the bowl. However, they do make the BEST-SMOOTHIES in town...

Greasy, tasty Chinese food that will appeal to your average ho(mewood) hum joe. Their cooking isn't very refined i.e. they aren't trained chinese chefs. Example: they use way too much oil and don't know or care to slice their ingredients at the accurate width / size so they cook in unison with the rest of the dish. Result: dish with some ingredients not fully cooked. Your average american takeout customer who doesn't know chinese cooking doesn't get it or doesn't care. And back to the oil issue. I like my greasy chinese food, but seriously, 1/4 cup? I saw that. Revoltulous. I challenge you to go somewhere like Rickshaw, where the prices are a little higher but the cooking and ingredients are better, and you will see a difference.

Eat Rice is excellent for what it is--a hole in the wall Chinese restaurant. The food is well done--tasty and not greasy. The menu has all the standards--from orange chicken to fried rice. The smoothies are really good (and an excellent treat for the kids). The food tastes as if it were freshly prepared. Deep fried foods are crisp, broccoli is green, and the flavors are distinct. (I guess I have been going to Panda Express too often.) There is absolutely nothing fancy about this restaurant. Don't go expecting fine Chinese cuisine. Go for a quick, inexpensive Chinese meal.

Fast fresh Chinese. No frills. If you like it spicy, ask for it. Clean. Friendly service. Kid friendly. Beats fast food on nutrition and price!

I have to admit that after a few times trying to find decent Chinese Food, I was again disappointed. The food was mediocre at best. The shrimp fried rice appeared to be "white rice" soaked in soy sauce to add color and the shrimp themselves were of the popcorn variety and unclean. The orange chicken was also a letdown, we found it sticky and dried out. Our search continues.

7.5/10 Located in the heart of Homewood's downtown business district, and just steps from the Metra Electric Line, Eat Rice is a popular destination for reliable, inexpensive, quality (Americanized) Chinese cuisine. With the sad demise of Dragon Inn in Glenwood, Eat Rice has become my local mainstay when I'm looking for a quick fix of fried food. Despite being a local institution, the Rickshaw can't compete with the quality of ingredients and the fast, friendly service of Eat Rice. Being a vegetarian, I'm faced with few options here, but what is available is generous and well prepared. The Buddhist Delight is simple and filling, but my guilty pleasure is their amazing General Tso's Bean Curd - a tofu take on their sinfully delicious chicken dish. But take note, apparently locals aren't so fond of vegetables, so if you want more than a few florets of broccoli, be sure to ask for more. They'll readily accommodate any taste and preference. Oh, and definitely get the brown rice, a welcome new addition - it's delicious. Dining in is comfortable, and the take-out is fast and just as good. Isn't nearly as good re-heated though, so enjoy your large portions while they're fresh. Non-vegetarians will find plenty of great dishes, and will surely marvel over the great lunches which will scarcely cost you little more than $5. For what this is (essentially "fast food"), this place is great.

Ok Eat Rice I'm sorry that it had to come to this. But that cashew chicken was DISGUSTING I mean it was barely any chicken just vegetables and cashews. I've been giving ya'll good praises sending people to try out the food I'm hurt, I'm really hurt. I can't even write about this anymore 1 star I'm done.

I could probably eat the Sesame Tofu every day for the rest of my life. It's so fried and saucy and delicious. Plus, it's only $7 for a gigantic potion. Also, they have brown rice now - yes!

Just tried eat rice for the first time today, came highly recommended by a coworker. It was one of the best Chinese restaurants that I have been to out here. We had the dumplings, hunan chicken, szechuan beef, and sweet and sour pork. I love that they have dinner specials that come with fried rice, main dish, and an egg roll (I usually only see these type of deals for lunch specials.) And the you haven't had a smoothie until you have had it with tapioca added to it!!!!!

It's hard to find a good Chinese restaurant, but once you do....anyhoo, I like Eat Rice and haven't found another place in the vicinity that taste as good as Eat Rice. I love their vegetable fried rice, sweet & sour chicken and beef and broccoli. Their egg rolls are pretty good too.

We love Eat Rice in my house, we order here about twice a month and get things off the "Healthy Menu". The steamed bean curd with mixed veggies is super yummy, and actually, it's my 2 year old's favorite dish. Love the General Tso's and Orange chicken as well when we're getting decadent :)

This place is right across the street from my office, so I end up ordering from here about once a week. The only item I have ever been disappointed in is their sweet and sour chicken. Everything else I have enjoyed. I usually end up ordering the Curry Chicken, Beef with Broccoli, Chicken Lo Mein, or Sesame Chicken. The food is prepared quick, it is cheap, the place is kept clean, and the staff are very polite. While it is not gourmet Chinese cuisine, it is decent food and if you are in need of a quick lunch, worth the stop.

I've been going to Eat Rice in Homewood since the first day they opened. The food is what you expect, decent Chinese that is cheap. The fried dumplings are always a must for me. For most of the menu you get the stock standard Chinese choices. The smoothies with tapioca are definitely worth going for alone. Very good value as you get large portions, even when ordering the small option. Great for takeout. Close to the Homewood Metra station so expect to see commuters coming through after work. Always a good option for Chinese in the area.

This is our favorite chinese restaurant in or near Homewood. It seems we either walk in or order at least once a week. They also will prepare certain dishes not on the menu. The vegis are fresh. One of our favorites is the Vegi and Tofu soup.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
