Not that I think Olive Garden is authentic Italian foods by any means, but they have some pretty consistent dishes, and are always tweaking their menu with new items too. This time around I asked if they could make me shrimp scampi (wasn't on the menu) and they did, so I thought that was nice. Dish was good, came with red and yellow bellpeppers, and onions which gave it some flavor as well. The servers we had were attentive enough.

If you like your pasta microwaved, and your soup out of a can, then this is the place for you.

Olive Garden will always be a safe place to dine out. Its definitley YUMO. Try the Shrimp & Assparagus Rissotto.....MMMMMMMM So good!!!

Ugh. Olive Garden is horrible. Only go here if you like TV dinners, because that's basically what they serve you. They have frozen pasta shipped in that they microwave before you eat it. There are plenty of better italian restaurants in Gurnee, like Saluto's down Grand Avenue, and plenty of better chain restaurants if you like chains because you don't care if food tastes good. Don't be dumb by going here.

This is the Olive Garden I normally eat at (there is another that I don't go to as often in Vernon Hills). Anywho, I love the hell out of some Olive Garden salad, bread sticks and Zuppa Toscana soup, HOWEVER, there have been maybe 3-4 times I've gone to this location and the food just wasn't quite .....right - for lack of a better word. Tonight was one of those "miss" nights....I had my normal salad and bread sticks, minus the soup this time. The salad didn't have enough dressing on it, the bread sticks were really salty tonight, and I ordered the Italiano sampler with fried mozzarella and chicken fingers and was really disappointed..... I'm giving Olive Garden three stars because MOST of the time it's really good. Not the BEST Italian food, but it will pass. They have this new dish that I tried about a month ago and it's a steak and Gorgonzola pasta dish, with steak cutlets and Alfredo sauce over fettuccine, with Gorgonzola cheese on it......DA SHIZNIT! One other note, I was never really a fan of the Olive Garden desserts, but wouldn't you know, they've added new ones. They have this chocolate gelato with bittersweet chocolate pieces sprinkled on top and a caramel sauce...pretty tasty.....they have some new chocolate molten cake as well, but that one I have not tried yet.

The Olive Garden in Gurnee is always PACKED! It's a nice Olive Garden, and probably has the nicest atmosphere in Gurnee. The food is good for a chain restaurant, but nothing special.

The best Italian place in Gurnee...which isn't saying much. The only reason I am giving this place 5 stars is b/c it is better than Saluto's and these are the only 2 Italian places i know of in Gurnee. However, this place is a good restaurant b/c you do eat well here and the service is good. A safe back-up when you're jonesing for italian and run out of ideas.

YUK.. Food poisoning people! I went on a wednesday evening with my dad and small niece. I ordered glass of wine and some combo plate with lobster ravioli and shrimp fettucine alfredo and more fried shrimp. The fried shrimp didn't seem terrible it just tasted like they deep-fried it with my neices' chicken fingers. The raviolis were hard and had been made days before and left in the fridge. They were barely warm only because my plate was so Friggin HOT! Against my intuition I tasted them, YUCK, Only ate that half one I tasted The alfredo tasted just like the chicken fingers so I gave up, considering I'm allergic to those proteins I know better, thank goodness! My father, he can eat most things and does :) barely ate half of his alfredo dish, said he would eat leftovers. My nieces food was the funniest, her side of mashed potatoes was definitely about a week old!!!! It sat there on the plate, I poked at it and I swear it tried to eat the fork. So I paid the 57.00 bill HA and left with a box of salmonella ! The waitress was very nice but she needs some glasses to see what she is bringing to her table.... coughYUCKcoucgh... spent the next 2 days VERY close to a bathroom. Not the funnest when your trying to visit your family. coughYUCKYUCKcough... squirt... LOL

This place is always busy and with good reason. They just do a great job. The food is always on point, and as anyone would know who has been to an Olive Garden, it's not a bad price.

No wifi and maybe call ahead for seating. As most restaurants lately, they seemed to push you in and out as quick as possible. Food lacked that extra taste, kind of bland in the main courses. The never fail all you can eat soup, salad, and bread sticks was fabulous though.

Food was so so at the Gurnee Olive Garden, service sucked! Long waits between drinks, long waits between appetizer and meal, had to ask for everything and the table was not kept clean! Long wait after the meal for our checks! The worst part is they do not support the United States Military! No enlisted service member discounts! Will never eat at another Olive Garden!

Was there and waited 30 mins for water. Our waitress was complaining that she had a big party on the other side that was "needy" and that is why we had to wait 30 mins. She said she would do something to make up for it but never did. Took her another 10 to 15 minutes to bring breadsticks... Not even the salad we ordered. We got our salad with our food. Beyond ridiculous. Sadly, we will never be going back to this Olive Garden.

We had the best experience here tonight. Our waiter Ignacio C. was the best. He helped us with menu selections, offered his advice when I asked and was very polite and extremely patient with us. Our food came out quickly and was nice and hot. At the end he even brought my little girl extra candies which she loves. Thanks!!

My usual favorite Chicken Alfredo was a little bland today. Time to try some of the new menu items added. Friendly server.

I must say first, that I always try to look on the positive side of every experience. However, this time, I am completely disappointed in this establishment. When we arrived here on Sunday, July 13, 2014, at 630 PM, it was the last day that I got to spend with my son before he returned to base for further training for the Navy. He had graduated bootcamp on Friday and we had driven from Texas to visit over the weekend. Anyway, we left Six Flags early so that he could eat at his favorite place... OLIVE GARDEN, before he returned to base. Upon arrival, we had a 30 minute wait, which was fine. As we were being seated, I asked the host if he could let our waiter know in private that it was my son's birthday, so that we could have a little treat for him and sing Happy Birthday to him. He said YES and it was all set... SO I THOUGHT! We sat there for 10 minutes before a very friendly waiter came to our table and thanked us for our wait and took our drink order. We gave our ENTIRE order to him including our appetizers, which NEVER came by the way, hoping to speed things up. NO HOPE! 10 minutes later we finally got drinks and then another 30 went by before we got our entrees.. NO APPETIZERS! By that time, I was anxiously awaiting the birthday song... NEVER CAME! At 845 PM, I finally had to track down our waiter and ask for the check because I had to have my son back to base by 930! So, what was suppose to be a great FUN evening for my son before he went back to training and we left to come back to Texas, ended up being a very disappointing experience. I will give ONE STAR, as the food was good, but it is hard for me to even do that.

If I were you I'd drive the extra miles to visit any other Olive Garden then the one in gurnee. Worst service, the waitress we had wasn't even trained. and the food doesn't even taste the same or look the same as other franchises. They need new management!

    (1)
  • Donald L.

Olive Garden restaurants vary little bu the management can make a real difference. We had a group of seven Saturday night and the wait was quoted at 20-30 minutes. After waiting for 45 minutes or so, we got frustrated and asked for two tables. We were quickly seated and dinner began. Unfortunately, our entrees arrived before the soup and salad courses had come. We sent them back and a floor manager (Ashley) came over to apologize. The soup course came out quickly and our entrees were re-done, not reheated. On top of that, Ashley picked up the check! I hate Olive Garden's "no reservations" policy on Friday and Saturday nights but quick thinking and caring managers like Ashley certainly help when everything doesn't go right. We'll be back (although maybe not with a larger group on a Friday or Saturday)

Let me start off with something that may be of help since most people already know all about Olive Gardens. This location is located in between the McDonald's and a Joe's Crabshack. Its right off of 294 and Six Flags Great America is only 1 block up the street. Its always been busy ever since the day it opened. The staff is extra nice.My mom and i had Seth as our waiter earlier, and he was just a doll.Very good at his job and very professional. Now on to the food.My mother had the soup and salad.. she said the Minestrone soup was good but opted for the chicken creamy soup the second time around,so i don't know what that means{maybe it sucked , but she didn't want to complain} The salad and bread sticks were good just like at all other "OG" locations..nothing new there. I had the mushroom whole wheat pasta and that wasn't the best but i managed to finish it all off.Ill just say i wont be ordering that again. I got the chocolate mouse cake thing..sorry forgot the name. That was good but simply not big enough o pay $2.50 for. The 2nd and last item i had was the 5 cheese linguine..verdict(ok but maybe i should have changed pastas since the whole wheat was so over powering. This is the only OG location nearby so you're pretty much stuck having to go here. Its not bad and the staff is nice. All tastebuds vary and this restaurant shouldn't be anything out of the norm for anyone.Im a fan!

  • Mario R.

The Olive Garden has too many customers, not enough tables, not enough cooks and not enough waiters. Although the food is fantastic, the place is always packed from wall to wall over capacity. Can never get a seat under 30 minutes!

Olive Garden certainly is an efficient operation but the quality of the food is not great.

We had a terrible experience when dining at this establishment on June 5th around 8:00 PM. To start off the day the draft beer was not working. Not a big deal, but still an in convenience. The second down fall of our evening out to dinner was the service. My girlfriend ordered a raspberry lemonade and the server brought out water instead. The worst part of the evening was when my girlfriend found what appeared to be a finger nail in her ziti five cheese pasta. My girlfriend had an emotional break down because it was in her mouth. She went to the bathroom because of how gross this was. In the meantime I alerted the manager on duty Steve Heroul about our issue. He looked at the nail and said he can assure everyone is wearing shoes and gloves in the kitchen. He took the nail and came back explaining it was a wheat husk. Come on really? He took care of the bill, but nothing could replace the experience we had. It would have been better to tell us it was a nail instead of lying to us. The waitress came back to the table and told us customers found a metal chuck in their salads a few weeks ago. This confirmed how problems do happen at this establishment. On the way out we went past the manager Steve Heroul again and he did not say one word to us. To conclude, we were trying to have a nice evening out, but it was ruined by this conflict. It is unfortunate because we will not be doing business with this restaurant again and we will be sure to tell friends and family about this experience.

Very noisy and crowded but the food and service were as expected for olive garden, sufficient.

The rating for this restaurant is based on two distinct experiences within our party. Our gluten free friends loved the gluten free penne dish with marinara and the Steak Tuscano. The gluten free pasta was so good that we were concerned that it was regular pasta. We've had plenty of GF pasta and this stuff was really good. We talked to the manager about our concerns and he kindly brought out the package of GF pasta for us to look at. Olive Garden gets GF pasta specially made for their restaurants and even had dedicated utensils and cooking for their GF items. The GF Tuscano steak was cooked perfectly medium and was flavorful. Now for the non gluten free part of our dining experience...it was just meh...the shrimp scampi appetizer was really rockin' the garlic...so much so that a tinful of Altoids would not quell the garlic explosion that comes with a few bites of this dish. The children's pepperoni pizza was awful...undercooked soggy crust with what seemed to be raw, straight from the can tomato sauce poured on top. They brought out the mac and cheese and that was ok...nothing special and a bit watery. The house salad and breadsticks were good. Nice cold salad and fresh bread...yum. We'll go back for the good gluten free dishes...and try to find some better prepared items on the regular menu...or just order salad and breadsticks...

This Olive Garden consistently delivers a good meal and with great service. I've been there around 4-5 times this year, and have never had a bad meal. Be prepared for a wait, though, as I don't think I've ever visited when I haven't had to wait at least 15-20 minutes (I think this says a lot for the quality of the restaurant though - they are always packed!). On our most recent visit I was most impressed with our waitress...I wish I noted her name. But she was great. Quick coming out with the bread & salad, and totally catered to the needs of my picky kids. I ordered the Four Cheese Mezzalunas with Shrimp and it was BETTER than the commercials made it look. My husband's lasagna was also true-to-form an among the best lasagna he swears he's had...

Olive Garden Gurnee. We went there for a friends birthday. It was good to see my wife's friend, but the food was very disappointing. As you know if you've been to Olive Garden before, they are all very similar in the design of the interior. The soups were actually pretty good. I had a bowl of the Zuppa with sausage and a bowl of the chicken gnocchi The menu for photos are deceiving as the food ISN'T as good as the picture (false advertising). I ordered the Steak Gorgonzola-Alfredo. The picture looked delicious as there were ingredients that should have been tastier. The steak Gorgonzola Alfredo came with steak, plum tomatoes, fresh basil, Gorgonzola cheese & Alfredo sauce over pasta. This dish came with chunks of steak that were cooked medium rare the way I ordered, but the meat was very chewy and rather bland. The Alfredo Gorgonzola sauce was ok, but too salty. The only reason I give it 3 stars is because the waitress Glenda had a good sense of humor and did a good job with the service.

I haven't been to Olive Garden since 1988! I know, it's crazy to think it's been that long, but I just never had a need or a location close by to go to. On Friday I had a meeting here, and it was the ideal place to meet up with a group of people because of the large space and variety menu. They have a new menu, called the Tour of Italy, but for a light lunch it seemed a bit extensive. I opted for the unlimited soup, salad and bread stick deal for $7.99. I ordered the cream of chicken and dumpling soup. It was okay, a little watered down, but on a cold day it hit the spot. Though it seemed like I ate a ton of salad, I was honestly hungry two hours later. Didn't try the bread sticks, but I bet they were fantastic! The parking lot is pretty chaotic. Everyone was parked however they felt like parking and the exit signage was non-existent, so prepare to drive around a bit to get out. Otherwise, exactly what I expected. Olive Garden is consistent with all my memories from the past.

The food was tasty and service was fantastic with Stephanie! When you have a great waitress like Stephanie, no problems with anything! The food was great and I usually order the Tour of Italy. I would come back again for the food! Tasty food at a reasonable price! You should sign up to be on their list to receive a free appetizer on your birthday. Everything I tasted so far is good on the menu. The peach and raspberry ice tea is great with all the dishes. No complaints here. It just gets packed usually on weekends, so reserve early.

I'm so tired of the terrible service in this restaurant. The bus boys are great, but the hostess always looks like she just got off an 18-hour flight, and the waiters are terrible and act as if they're being held hostage and forced to work at Olive Garden. The dishes that are prepared fresh are good, but many taste canned. The breadsticks are made from flavorless frozen bread dough and then baked in a puddle of margarine. The salad dressing is ok, but when will they retire that Iceberg Lettuce? C'mon! I wouldn't complain so much if it wasn't so expensive!

I dine here at least 3 times a month and it never fails. the last time i went in was for lunch. we requested a booth and thats what we got. our server was very sweet and efficient. she was very informative and always smiled! make sure to order their peach ice tea! its to die for. and its free refills. for lunch, i got their endless soup and salad. it is a great deal! but please be considerate of your server. if she/he doesnt bring it at the "right" time, then they are probably busting their butts off for another table as well. however, i usually get the shrimp stuffed raviolli, or the mushroom stuffed raviolli. its delicious! great place to enjoy a drink and talk with friends!

We were a party of 4 on a Sunday evening. There was a 15 minute wait so we sat at the bar for a quick drink, but with a bar that wasn't even half occupied we weren't even acknowledged for the first 10 minutes and then didn't get our drink by the time our table was called, which then caused a bunch of confusion making the hostess wait and then transferring our drink tab. Very poor bar service. However, our waitor was very kind, order was perfect, plenty of breadsticks and salad kept coming. Food was decent, typical fare for the OG.

Oh Olive Garden! I haven't been here in years and an impromptu dinner at Olive Garden was a fast track down memory lane. Food we got include: 1. Stuffed Chicken Marsala (~$15): comes with mashed potatoes and a choice of soup or salad. This dish had a strong marsala cream sauce on top of a juicy piece of chicken breast that wrapped cheeses and herbs. It was a bit salty for me butttttt when paired with the Fettucine Alfredo. 2. Fettucine Alfredo (~$12): got the Buy one, take one entree home. In combination with the Chicken Marsala, it made this dish into instant Chicken Fettucine Alfredo! Yumm, the alfredo sauce was creamy but a bit bland which is why it was perfect to supplement the stuffed chicken. I wasn't able to finish all of the fettucine alfredo and it definitely did not taste as good as leftovers because the sauce separated after cooling but it was still alright when eaten with chicken. 3. Mezzaluna Ravioli with Five Cheese Marinara: As our "take home" entree, the ravioli was stuffed with a simple cheese filling which tasted okay. Overall the dinner was a good deal even if it only includes 5 specific dishes. Salad: nice light dressing on iceberg lettuce, carrots, onions, croutons Soup: Chicken Dumpling soup - nice and creamy kind of like clam chowder but with chicken and small dollops of dumpling dough. Breadsticks: FAVORITE PART! T were well buttered and garlic, hot, and AMAZING melt-in-your-mouth delicious! I was sitting at the bar which allowed easy access to the waiters/waitresses. All in all, I enjoyed revisiting this chain that is an oldie but a goodie.

Having the a terrible family dinner experience, long wait for a drink all they way down to the breadsticks. Can't get drinks refilled until we were ready for the check... If you are too busy don't give your servers more tables then they can handle.... Bummer we couldn't enjoy the experience :( sad wonder how long it will take to get the check and Togo boxes....

I have to say, this has to be my least favorite location that I've been too. The seats in the booth are HORRIBLE, it feels like they've been there for 30 years and any padding they once had have since disintegrated because they actually hurt when you sit down on them. The little dining areas seem small. And the wait staff (espeicially the one we had that night, a guy, but don't remember his name) was not up to par. Our waiter seemed snarky and like we were putting him out. You could tell his smile was bullshit, and he pretty much left us alone all night (without refilling drinks and clearing dishes). I would never return to this location. Overall, I love Olive Garden as a chain, it's just this location is bad.

    (1)
  • Carl F.

As this is a chain, I will not spend too much time on this review. Other than to say my experience at this location has been good. Both the service and food is good. Nothing to wright home about.

  • Shirley Z.

The Olive Garden has found another way to get customers in and out faster. It now has machines on the tables to order your appetizers, drinks and desserts. This is supposedly to make the dining experience "more convenient" for customers. It also means less service at your table . If you ring up the bill on your credit card at the table, it sets the tip at 20%. You will look like a scrooge re-setting the amount to 15 or 18% Lastly, Olive Garden claims the touch pads are cleaned between customers. However, to be safe, bring sanitizer and wipe your hands after you order. I told the manager it's just a matter of time until he and the servers are replaced by robots. They will probably be preparing your food, too!

My husband and I came here for dinner after spending the day at Six Flags Great America. We were both very hungry and wanted food pretty bad and didn't want to eat at the park since it's so expensive. We yelped around but couldn't find restaurants around the area that was on our way back so we decided to come here for dinner. Since it's a franchise we thought it won't go wrong. It was a Thursday evening. We didn't make a reservation but we were seated pretty quickly after we got there. This is just like your typical Olive Garden, although it's been awhile since I went to one. My husband and I started with the shrimp scampi fritti (spicy) as appetizer. We thought it was okay..I didn't know it was going to be a wet texture..but it was. The sauce was flavorful, but we preferred it to be dry instead. I had the pappardelle pestore (sp)..it's their pappardelle pasta with seafood (scallop, shrimp, and clams). This is a seasonal dish and I wanted to try. It also have asparagus and chunks of tomatoes with seafood sauce over it. I thought it was an okay dish..I would prefer the pasta to be more al dente, but it was okay. My husband had their spaghetti and meatball. He thought it was okay too..I thought the meatball could be better. Oh, it also comes with a side of your choice of salad or soup and breadsticks. We had the salad which is your average iceberg lettuce salad with italian dressing..but the breadsticks were warm and yummy! When we got the tab, we found it was a bit expensive for an Olive Garden..oh well. Food is average, and nothing to complain. We were full by the end of the night.

If my mother in law continues to give me gift cards for this place, I will have to start selling them on gift card sale sites. The wait time for this location is always obnoxious, the service has been consistently poor, including being sexually harassed and forgotten about by our servers. Last time I was there, I decided to try the Eggplant Parm. It was not cooked properly so the texture was rubbery. By the time we were finally checked in on, my husband had finished his dinner and we were going to miss our movie so I didn't get to eat. Did I mention this was for my birthday dinner? Two weeks ago I went to Maggiano's for the first time. Their Eggplant Parmesano was out of this world and has sealed the deal for me with O.G. I will never ever return to Olive Garden,

I don't know what it is about Gurnee and theme based restaurants/bars, but many of them really are below average. I have bashed some of these restaurants but this location is actually pretty good. Hey - it's OG, no grandma in the back rolling fresh gnocchi!!! However, menu selection is good, food is decent and service is hit or miss. The all-you-can-eat soup and salad has always been brilliant. There are a couple of other family owned Italian restaurants I would rather patronize.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
