On our way home to Ohio and seen a sign off of 70. I always love to try BBQ and thought we'd give it a shot. Food was good. Wouldn't drive back there just for it but not a bad place of you're on the road.

Bleh Lots of road signs directing you to this place, but when you exit the freeway, nothing... Outside, there was nothing going on, no smoker or smell of smoke. Went inside and saw a sign explaining all the time need to smoke the meats properly. Based upon the recommendation, I ordered a pulled pork sandwich and got a side of slaw with it. The sandwich was the size of a slider, the meat had so much BBQ sauce on it that you could not tell how it was cooked, let alone smell it, AND as someone else mentioned, it was reheated.

It is a nice change from the run-of-the-mill fast food stops along i70 but it is a far cry from delicious BBQ. Building is very clean and well kept. Asked an employee what her favorite thing on the menu was, her response was "I don't like barbecue." Sides were alright, meat wasn't anything special at all. Pulled pork and brisket tasted like the frozen kind you can get at the grocery store and heat in microwave. Ordered a Budweiser with a Born On date that from 10 months earlier (most beer starts going bad at about 3 months.) I would never eat here again if it were in my hometown of Kansas City.

Had pulled pork sandwich. Reminiscent of what I bought frozen from the grocery store. Not bad, but not great. Saw reviews were 3 1/2 stars. About right.

Driving to St. Louis we stopped for dinner on the way at Backyard BBQ. Apparently on Friday nights you can get all you can eat ribs. I love ribs but I had eaten way too much the night before so I decided not to abuse myself and ordered a single order of BBQ Pork while my wife ordered the brisket and my son ordered the Kids BBQ Pork Sandwich. The food came out very quickly. My BBQ Pork was very good as was my sons. They were out of the brisket so my wife substituted it for the Pork Loin. It was dry and not very good at all. However she ordered a side of cole slaw and it was probably the best cole slaw I have ever had. It was delicious! All in all I enjoyed the visit and could possibly stop by again on my next trip across 70.

The pulled pork was a mushy, sauce soaked puddle of goo that tasted like the Curley's pork you can buy in a plastic tub at the grocery store. It was so bad I didn't finish the meager serving despite being really hungry. The baked beans were basically pork n beans with very little added flavor. Slaw had very little flavor. One of the worst BBQ meals I have had in years, if not my lifetime.

Not bad for a roadside BBQ hut. Pretty much a KC bbq influence. Nothing special. You can tell the high school kids behind the counter completely wish they were somewhere else, but nice kids

Very over priced for reheated food. The sides are lack luster and bland. On the bright side, the staff was very pleasant and hospitable.

Driving north to Chicago on 130 my timing belt decided to break, contorting my engine into many twisted pieces on New Year's Eve. Luckily, I wasn't far from the farm, and so I had a couple of fat guys in a truck and a flatbed trailer come to haul my sorry heap of a Mitsubishi back south of I-70. I was surprised we were able to push it onto the trailer, in a steady drizzle no less. So, I had to show my appreciation by buying the lugs some lunch. I had passed Backyard BBQ and suggested we stop there on our way back. Neither of the boys had tried it, so today was our day. Plenty of parking for the truck and trailer. It's a nice corrugated building. Plain, spartan diner interior and not much seating, but enough space for a large screen plasma tv. Nice, clean, contemporary and spacious restrooms. Backyard is located just on the east side of 130 near the exit ramp of 130 & I-70. No waiter service. Order and pick up at the counter. But! Today was all you can eat babyback ribs day! A feast for my endomorphic, rotund friends, and mercy on my wallet as well. All you can eat ribs for $9.95! Order came up quickly and we were served everything promptly. Personnel at the counter were friendly and attentive. Most importantly, the ribs were excellent. I'm not a huge bbq connoisseur, but I know what I like. And these were tasty, meaty and succulent. The guys I treated are connoisseurs, and they bear the girth to prove it, and they said it was the real deal and that they plan to return. I will agree that the sides were skimpy. Green beans, which were good, came in what amounted to a single serving butter container. They did keep the ribs coming. And they were all good. I don't know how much longer they'll keep the AUCE lunches. We did some substantial damage and had the plates of rib bones to prove it. Plus, a pair of monsters waddled inside shortly after we arrived, and they didn't look like they were there for juice and appetizers. Catch one of the all you can eat meals if you can. Regardless, it's a fun taste of bbq. Backyard is terrific bbq. I plan to return, hopefully with my car on the road and not on the back of a trailer.

On our trip across the countrry last week, we stopped at this place for lunch. Inside and out, it is cute and homey. And seriously, the cleaniest nicest restrooms I've ever seen. It was perfect given it was raining and driving had been stressful that day. I'm not a big meat eater, so you have to rely on the fact that my boyfriend LOVED the food. He had the Pulled Pork Plate with Cole Slaw, Pasta Salad and Texas Toast. I had the Pulled Chicken Plate with Cole Slaw, Texas Toast, and substituted Broccoli Soup for an extra charge. The boyfriend ate all his plus half of my chicken. The portions of meat were huge to me. I loved the cole slaw and the soup! The BBQ sauce was too sweet for me but the toast cut the sweetness. It was the first time I'd had "Pulled" anything so go by the boyfriend loving the BBQ! The lunch customers were friendly and chatted with us which was really nice. The two ladies in the kitchen were super nice and efficient. A don't miss spot off Interstate 70!

This place is an absolute must when I am driving home to Indy from the west. I make it a point to stop for the pulled pork BBQ sandwich.

Wow!! This place has great ribs! I got a pulled pork sandwich, which was good, but my husband got the dinner combo #1 which came with ribs, brisket and pork loin ( they were out of wings) and the ribs were the best I have ever had. Staff was very friendly and the food came out quickly. We were there on a weekday afternoon so it was not too crowded. We will definitely come here again if were are passing through Greenup.

seems like a decent place as i stopped here a few times in the last year.I got the beef BBQ sandwich and it was OK. It was 5.00 with sides being extra. There was nothing special about the sauce, and if you want a hotter sauce, they throw it on from a bottle of hot sauce. If i had more time i would probably try there ribs or chicken but being on the move i need to eat simple. Its a hometown place & it looks like a local hangout & locally owned.I would still stop at this place because i like local BBQ places.

Friendly service and great food. The prices are very reasonable. we had pulled pork and brisket. The brisket was some of the best I've ever had. The bathrooms were super-clean. A great place to stop on a road trip.

We stopped twice in a week. Once on our way west and then back again. Wonderful BBQ pork and broasted? Chicken. The ribs are great, but are a bit fatty. I don't care for that much fat on them and is the only reason for four stars and not 5. The ribs you could see a nice smoke line and were quite tender. The pulled pork is wonderful and tender. I give this 5 stars. Though I did not have the chicken, it looked perfect. The aroma from the couple's dinner at the next table was simply heaven. They said it was great.

Great ribs... We were there on all you can eat rib night. Our family had the ribs, wings, taco salad, and pb&j. All were satisfied. We found the size of the sides just fine. Very clean bathrooms a plus for the traveling family. Only drawback were the flies that bothered us.

Portions were small and the quality of the food was marginal. Beef brisket was barely smoky tasting and contained large amounts of fat. The "loaded" baked potato was too small.

Love love love Backyard BBQ. Love. We've been all over Texas, a place very well known for BBQ, and say Backyard surpasses any BBQ in Texas near that price range. Tasty brisket. Amazing ribs. They're huge, meaty, moist, perfectly cooked, delicious! Our first time there we got two combo plates and four beers for under $35 and had plenty of leftovers. I will agree that their sides are small, but appropriately priced. Who needs sides with those huge portions anyway. The pork loin isn't my favorite, but they still get 5 stars because everything else is so good and everyone there is incredibly friendly. And they have beer, which is essential for proper BBQ consumption. Can't wait to return!
