Sammie's is a classics "Vienna Beef" hot dog stand guaranteed to deliver quality classics. I'm a big fan of the gyro but when I stray in the menu the hot dogs rule, burgers are juicy and mucho flavorful. Always, and I mean always get the fries as they are some of the best you'll ever have. You can't stop eating them, down to the smallest "crunchers" as we like to call them...and reluctantly share when down to the final few.

Sammies is my go to spot for great Chicago style grub! Their Italian Beefs are the best I've ever had. You can count on the burgers to be char broiled and delicious every time!! I like this location as they have crinkle cut fries instead of the potato skin version. If you're ever near a Sammies you definitely need to check in & check them out for yourself!

The only reason I would not give five stars is because the RLB locations has real fries that can't be beat! Worth the extra drive! The staff in grayslake was alright.. No complaints but no big compliments either! They were doing there job, fast, friendly and pleasant.

Really good buffalo wings. You have to put your own sauce on them but that is some good chicken. I have also had the Gyro and it was top notch too. great place to stop when you are in the area.

I agree that the staff are not friendly or appreciative, UNLESS Sammy or his son is there. However, the food is darn good. If you are going for the Italian beef, go after 1:00pm (seems to tenderize during the day). The giardiniara is really good, very good char dogs, burgers are average, gyro is huge but the meat can be a bit dry. All in all, you know what you are getting and it beats many of the Chicago Dog type places.

The beef is really good. One thing you need to know is if you order from the catering menu is that the beef comes cold and you have to cook it. That was a shock for me as I did not want to cook after work and ordered the #2 - Beef Party Pack. My guests had to wait for me to cook it and i had to try to keep the french fries and onion rings hot.

I have been going here for years. Great gyros...hot dogs and burgers are good. Beef sandwich doesn't compare to portillos but not bad. Overall great food. The only exception is the pepper and egg sandwich they serve during lent. They should either take it off the menu or learn how to make a decent pepper and egg sandwich. Don't order it.

Been to Sammies several times now, as I live close by. Its your usual grill type of place - burgers, dogs, fries, etc. Food is pretty good, and value meals (main item + drink + fries) are around $7-$8, servings are big. Something always felt weird going here, and it finally hit me. The employees seen to really hate their job. Order takers never smile, say thank you, can I help you, nothing. Feels uncomfortable.

I can only comment on the quality of their Italian beef. It's BAD. The flavor is good, the bun is good, the beef is TOUGH. I have had many beef sandwiches from here, and all were rough, tough beef.

was on the road and needed to make a quick stop to get the blood sugar back up. This place is straight forward comfort food, dogs, gyros, cheese steaks, italian beef, etc. Been around a while and seemed like it had good foot traffic and conveniently located for quick in and out. Dining area was clean, comfortable and some complimentary newspapers to peruse if desired. We split a gyro platter and a chi dog with some breaded mushrooms. The food was OK. Not great or special but a solid offering in that category. The service was quick, take a number and come and get it when they call your number. If you are in the area and want to dodge the chain choice, give them a shot. Prices are reasonable, our lunch came to just under $12 and no tipping needed.

Food is flavorless and over priced.

FAVORITE gyros in lake county! Great pita and tangy tzatiki. Honest chargrilled burgers and thick cut French frys. Always a go to!

This is one of those places that has been around ever since I can remember as a child. Great Chicago style hot dogs, fries, malts, Italian beefs, etc... Good value for good grill food.

Good dog joint with decent fries. I like the numerous reminders: "NO KETCHUP ON HOT DOGS!" :-)

The food is quite good for unhealthy comfort food. The problem is the order takers are robotic and unfriendly. Plus the place really needs an extreme cleaning or total remodel. I always get my order to go because the seating area is not inviting at all. Because of these issues I rarely go here anymore.

Very good food. Veggie burger is good as well (: their steak sandwich was rather small for $8.00. But was delicious!

I like going to Sammies occasionally. I think their food and selection is good. I like their hot dogs and fries. Friendly people. They're always at the annual Lake County Fair and their booth is crowded. Me thinks I'll hit the place tomorrow for a pepper and egg. If you're in the area, I think it's worth a stop by.

First thing i have to say is EXPENSIVE! The food is aight but there prices just kills the whole thing for me. I stir clear of this establishment.

Sammies is a total grease pit. But sometimes that can be ok. They have good Gyros, and the Sam burger is pretty big and tasty. Their italian beef is not real flavorful (other than salt), do not recommend this. The fries are crunchy and salty. Try it if you want salt and fat. I really don't eat here much anymore, but I do think they have the best quickie Gyros around! I will give them 3pts just for the Gyros.

When you drive up to this place, you should get the idea on what your going to get. Sammie's is the modern day equivalent to the old time dinner. Nothing fancy, no frills, just warm food, severed quickly. Most of what you order will be greasy and certainly not something a health food nut would recommend. So, if your looking for a good, greasy burger, Philly or Gyro served with salty fries, then this is your place. I like going here for it does serve up good eats, in short order.

My 2nd time coming to this place in several years and once again Great Food! Took my daughter for the first time last night and she enjoyed the gyro and chicken wings while I enjoyed having their chicken breast sandwich & onion rings which was delicious as well. Clean tables and even saw employees cleaning tables so we had a good clean atmosphere on our visit. I won't wait so long to come back again.

Great sandwich place. Some of the best in the area. My favorites is the double burger with everything. Don't forget the poppers!

Typical Chicago style italian beef, dogs and burgers. Good prices, consistently decent food, but nothing really exceptional or unique. The dining area could use a good scrubbing, I usually get take out.

Ordered a Gyro Sandwich. Plenty of meat, but very dry. They need to include a cup of the yogurt sauce to make it decent. For the price (high for a gyro), it wasn't as good as others in the area. Disappointing.

It does the trick if what you are looking for is salt and grease and fast food gyro meat. Their hours are confusing. Closing at 8pm? Really?

TOTALLY DELICIOUS! You can't go wrong with anything on the menu. They will even accommodate a special request, like putting your jumbo dog on Italian bread instead of a bun. The onion rings batter is to die for. All the sandwiches, cucumbers, tomatoes, cole slaw, etc. are fresh and great tasting. My only "beef" with the place was they were somewhat lacking in the cleanliness department. Even so, their food is irresistable.

Sammie's is not unique if you live in the city, but for the area it's in, it is quite good. When finding a decent gyros becomes a little harder to do, Sammie's will do in a pinch. The fries were very good, the gyros very good, and the menu had anything you would want when ordering fast food. They have warranted a follow up visit from me to try some of their other selections.

Big fan of the Big Sam Burger and the Gyros. The Philly Cheese Steak is solid too!

Grease. And more grease. Absolutely nothing special about this hotdog stand with a building around it. I really laughed reading another's review here stating "...their fries are meaty, yet perfectly crispy and golden." Oh, geez. That's a real knee-slapper! Must be an employee there planting a good review. If anything, the fries are little crinkle-cut disasters fresh out of yesterday's canola oil. For hot dogs, it's no better or worse than anwhere else serving this kind of food. But I seldom go there for any reason as my cholestrol is already too high.

The hours are odd. With all the traffic near them you'd think they would stay open til 9 or 10. Their Gyros are VERY good.

Sammie's has amazingly good Chicago-style food, which is surprising since Grayslake has not been suburban for all that long. The menu is extensive, but every time I go here, I always end up with an italian beef with cheese and fries. There's nothing better.

Sammie's has great, typical, hot dogs, burgers, and gyros food. They're always busy and the food is fast and the employees are super friendly.

As far as expensive, greasy hot dog joints go, Sammies is one of the best. The burgers are very greasy, but good. The fries are great with nacho cheese.

Their Italian beef is awesome!!! And their fries are meaty, yet perfectly crispy and golden. My husband loves the gyros plate. Good stuff.
