Had a real nice birthday meal. So nice that you get complimentary dessert and $15 off one meal. The service was excellent too.

This place accommodated my group event very well. The service my group received reflects the cohesion of service staff that appears to work very well, and communicates effectively with the customer. This restaurant is unique since it has a BEAUTIFUL separate banquet room with a working fireplace in the center of it. It accommodated my party of 12 very well. As for the food, great portion size, excellent value for what we paid ( a group dining package), For a "cloth napkin" dining experience, you won't be disappointed. I ordered the 5oz sirloin steak as my entree - and that did not disappoint either. All the food items on the menu are prepared very well, presented with simple flair, minimal garnish and sides. The portion size was just enough for me (or perhaps a Texan Baby) Good restaurant, great food, excellent service

Went to check out gluten free menu and was pleasantly surprised. Even some decent apps. Service there is always outstanding. Decor is really nice. Booths are cozy but not tight. The drinks are weak. That's really my only complaint. We'll be back for sure!

The menu at Houlihan's sure has much to offer any appetite. Everything I have ever tried has been excellent. A must try if you like mushrooms are their jumbo stuffed mushrooms...they are so darned good, I just crave them sometimes! The one negative I would have to say is I've just never experienced a really great or genuinely nice server there. They just seem to be running all over the place as crazy as can be and too busy to enjoy their tables. They sometimes forget something little you may request. But hey, I understand, I've been in that industry...managers can put way too much on these folks! And it is definitely NOT bad service, just not the best. But I always come back cause it truly is not only a beautiful, clean place, but great food and I am sure the service is not always lacking... Local - feeling type of spot.

Parm frittes with truffle mayo are soooo good! Calamari super tender and light. Have had better fish tacos, but def still good. Delish!

Reasonable price and nice aesthetics and service. I got the 5 oz sirloin with 2 sides: grilled asparagus and garlic mashed potatoes. Done perfect and quite filling even though smaller portion had me leaving without any leftovers.

Let me regale you with a review of an old tired chain that you probably drive pass often but don't even consider stopping to eat at. I was once one of you, until 1 night, we were so hungry and so over what Geneva Commons had to offer, that we stopped at...Houlihans. I'm picturing chicken fingers and potato skins in my future, but 1 glance at the updated menu and I was transformed! The prices are so reasonable, and the entrees and appetizers are 1 step up from what I remember of Houlihan's past. We started with the Seared Ahi Wontons, and the Cream of Potato Soup - hey we like contrast. Both were so flavorful, fresh, and just overall good. I opted for the Rosemary grilled chicken with mashed potatoes, and the BF went for the Asian noodle Bowl with Chicken - we could not stop talking about how surprised we were, which had to annoy the waiter, but oh well! In addition to our food we ordered a bottle of Malbec (half off every Tuesday!) oh and each had a (free) dessert (also a Tuesday special! LOVE. I had the White Chocolate Banana Cream Pie, it was pretty good, but oh the BF had the Italian Style Donuts with Kahlua chocolate and Bailey's vanilla dipping sauce - luckily I grabbed one before he inhaled them like a Dyson - too delicious for words. With crazy specials - Monday and Tuesdays at least, and quality food, I suggest reconnecting with Houlihan's - a little chain action once in awhile never hurt!

Man, I used to LOVE Houlihan's, especially when I was a fledgling drunkard and I could really get behind half-price Long Island pitcher day. I've been to a few Houlihan's and I have to say the consistency is across the board, but I really enjoy the one in Geneva Commons the best. The decor is above-average (I swear every restaurant in Geneva has those weird giant artisan lightbulbs hanging overhead... is there a supplier for those locally? And if so, where is THEIR Yelp page?) and I've had nothing but good experiences there. The food is always fresh and good. I especially love their mushrooms. They also have the best steak I've had the pleasure of eating at a restaurant (even though I usually don't order steaks when I go out - it's cheaper to cook at home). The aforementioned Long Islands are pretty weak but that might just be me... My liver is a seasoned pro at best and pickled beyond belief at worst.

We enjoyed an excellent meal. The service was exceptional. We had the small flllets which were perfectly cooked. Salad, loaded baked potato and fresh green beans were delicious and generously sized sides. We're ready to go again.

French onion soup and tomato bisque were great to start, as were the 'organic' potstickers served in an adorable dumpling steamer (see attached photo). My 5oz steak was good for the most part, although the cut was a little odd and roughly 20% of it was gristle/inedible weird stuff. The gold mashed potatoes tasted great, but the asparagus was a tad too al dente. The creme brulee killed the meal. For the second time in a row, I was presented with a beautiful fruit garnish atop a ramekin dish that had a lovely golden crust. As I dug in I realized much to my dismay that the custard was cold. Smooth, but distinctly refrigerated. This was a total turn-off, and I nearly didn't eat it. I mean, I DID eat it, because I'm morbidly obese (not really), but I didn't enjoy the process. Dessert should be the 'pièce de résistance' of a meal, not the biggest letdown. Great value (steak dinner for $15), polite service, and a nice atmosphere, but Houlihan's cold creme brulee definitely cost them a full star. I should've gotten the s'mores......

This has become our place! The boyfriend and I come here nearly once a week now. The food is always yummy, portions are huge, and the staff is friendly and attentive. Boyfriend always has to have the loaded potato soup (see picture of the grotesquely large bowl he ordered). And I always have to order the baked French onion soup. A bowl of cheese - yes please! I don't know why I keep trying but don't bother with the steak. They can't seem to cook them right. And the chicken nachos appetizer! So delicious. The menu seems smaller and the prices seem higher but the quality has risen.

Awesome service! Was just in for dinner with my girlfriend and we cannot begin to describe what an awesome experience we had. Danielle F was our server and she was fantastic! My gf is very picky about her burgers and Danielle made sure it was perfectly done to our standards. Then Gary the GM stopped by our table to see how our meal was coming. He then asked us about the spicy shrimp to see if we've ever tasted it. When we responded that we hadn't he told us to hold tight and suddenly there was a sample of the appetizer before us and it was spectacular! With personal service and such a friendly staff, they've earned every star they can be given.

Was looking for something light, late last night and Houlihans kitchen is open til 11. The tomato bisque was very good. I had Seared Georges Bank Scallops and the flavor combination was perfect. My wife had the tilapia which she also found enjoyable. The black cherry mojito (ok two of them) was also light and refreshing. Top that off with a very pleasant server and it was quite the enjoyable meal.

Houlihan's is a great place to meet some friends for lunch. We pig out on appetizers and desserts and always have a good time. Good - cozy, don't feel rushed, delicious food, friendly and experienced staff. Bad - I hear they discontinued our favorite appetizer - the yummy donut-like things with the 3 dipping sauces...oh how you will be mourned.

This was my first visit ever to houlihans and i was quite surprised. Most people I've talked to said that this restaurant was nothing special. For a chain and a reasonably priced dinner, that is still upper scale, this is the place. Had calamari for an appetizer which was good but nothing to rave about. I also had panko fried shrimp for dinner. I was so surprised to find how big and tasty the shrimp were. For a midwest state CHAIN, these shrimps were some of the best I've had. I will hopefully be coming back here soon.

Been to a few Houlihans, but it has been years.. Stopped in after the wife was off work. Sat in the bar, great service , fast friendly staff, food was off the charts good, half bottles of wine on Tuesdays, warm and inventing bar and happy staff. Should be a model for all the chains for Houlihans, Tuesday barterer has welcomed us back three or four times and remembers our order for the most part. French Dip is to die for, and the stuff mushrooms also.. Kitchen was even close one time we went to order take home for the kid and the bartender waiter, had them whip up something for us.. Talk about excellence in the restaurant biz, this is it! Enjoy!

Best tortilla soup ever. Houlihan's is a tried and true classic. They have a great bar for get togethers, and everything I've tried there is good (I particularly like the chopped salad and the french dip). However, the thing that keeps me coming back over and over again is the chicken tortilla soup. The closest Houli's to us used to be at Woodfield, but it closed, so now we have to trek to Oakbrook, and let me tell you...that soup is worth it. And I'm not just saying that because I'm pregnant and craving things ;)

i went here a week or so ago with some friends and sat in the bar area on a Tuesday night...they have the best drink specials ever. Domestic drafts and long islands are half off...I had a beer for $1.75 and my friends got their personal pitchers of long island iced teas for like $3.50. There are several varieties, and I tried a sip of all of them and they were delicious. They also have appetizer specials that seem like a good deal. I haven't actually tried any of their food, but the drinks are really good. I will definitely be back Monday-Thursday for these drink specials.

Sometimes it's a little busy as expected, but as long as you make a reservation, it's never a problem. Monday - Thursday they have half price long island pitchers which is awesome! The Naperville branch no longer does this. The food is always good and I've never had a bad experience!

I'm so down with Houlihan's. I used to kind of like it, then had a sickening obsession with their steak salad, then hated them for not only the Hepatitis scare (don't ask) but also the discontinuation of my salad and I have now crawled back for more. Houlihan's has revamped their menu and is now on board with the frugal boozers (enter my friends and me). Happy Hour, meaning 1/2 price drinks and apps (select items) AND now they introduce the small plates? Sensational!! Not only that, who has a fry bar that includes pickle fries!? Yes, yes, yes!! Besides the pickle fries and amazingly awful for you stuffed mushrooms, they also offer some healthier fare, including the small plates which include items such as a mini fillet (although it comes w fries, I'm sure you could sub), Tuna Wontons, and perfectly portioned salads (provided you don't drown them in ranch or sumthin). I respect that a chain is doing something about the ridiculous portion sizes that have super sized millions of asses the nation over. I find Houlihans to be far more innovative and scrumptious in a taste test with...well, all other chains at its price point. Happy hour here makes me supa happy and allows this recessionista to feast-a lot with my buddies and get my drank on..

Seriously, the best fries ("fites" as they call them) I have ever had. Try the Parmesan Frites, the dipping sauces are AMAZING.. Check in using the foursquare application and get free frites! You'll ask for more after trying them (we did!). The staff was polite and prompt and the scallop entree was so flavor-packed it was unreal. I was VERY impressed at my first visit and I will be returning again sometime soon!

The last time we were in Hoolihans, granted this was about 2 years ago, we were seated in a busy dining room and then left to sit for about a half hour before we made the decision to walk out. During this half hour, every table around us was waited on. It felt like we were on some kind of game show or something. I'm sure the food is decent, but the experience was such that I'll never go back.

My family and I went tonight. The food was awful. The lettuce in the salad was brown, the chicken parm was not cooked all the way, the potato soup was mealy and the steak did not have the sauce that the menu said was on it. We will never go again. All the waitress did was make excuses. For $70 I expect more! I was very disappointed.

Hopped into this place last night with the g/f and the in-laws. The menu looked pretty good. I had the fish tacos and they were pretty good. G/f had the wedge salad with steak. Inlaws had french onion soup and the bruschetta. All in all the food was better than i expected. Fish tacos were light and tasty. THe wedge was ok - steak was cooked well. The french onion soup was Delish. Service was ok - not stellar but decent. All in all an ok place to satisfy some hunger.

Excellent service... sub par burger. The bun was GREAT the fries were yummy. The meat was good quality and texture however it had NO FLAVOR at all. I would recommend the chef season the meat before cooking it. Even the frozen burger patties from a grocery store have more seasoning. Very good chicken tortilla soup. And again... the service was excellent. Just dont order a burger!

Houlihan's seems to be going through something of an identity crisis. I remember when they were just like every other "crap-on-the-wall" American eatery. They then reinvented themselves as more of an upscale, unique dining experience with a greatly expanded menu. I hadn't been to one in a while and was a little surprised to find that the menu had been reduced quite a bit. While the menu was much smaller than I remembered, there were still a respectable variety of vegetarian dishes, including a really good veggie burger. I was pleasantly surprised at the number and variety of side dish options available. No longer are you stuck with fries or a salad up-charge! I went with the Mediterranean Orzo, which was phenomenal. I could have eaten a big portion of that as my meal and been satisfied. Houlihan's has also moved toward a tapas-style menu. I didn't get to try any of their small plates, but a lot of them looked good. If you haven't been to a Houlihan's since their average "crap-on-the-wall" days, they're worth another visit.

Disco Fries!!!!!!!!!! Only giving 4 stars because of the attitude I could hear the phone while placing my order. Their petite filet is just right without the Morton's price. One of the better chain restaurants Geneva Commons.

Food was horrible service was horrible. Management yelled at employees. The one in Algonquin is 10 times better. Don't waste your time with this place. Take the drive to Algonquin!

They have modified their menu again and made some good changes. Their steak and wedge is now "deconstructed" and is visually more appealing. It was a definite improvement. Great lunch menu for anyone eating on a break or with any time constraints.

This place is delicious... I have yet to order food there that I dislike! it's a tad expensive but well with the money. My favorite thing to order is the macaroni and cheese it's to die for!!!!! I just wish it was an actual meal and not just a side!!!

Very much enjoy the small plate menu. The french fried pickles are amazing, dip them in the garlic sauce. Drinks are made just right, service excellent. We had stopped going to Houlihan's because it became lack luster, but the improvements and the smaller portions are all winners.

Had lunch at the Geneva Commons location today. My spouse and I were so disappointed in the menu offerings. We were shopping in the area and it's been years since we've been to a Houlihan's (Stratford Square mall location) so we thought we'd get a bowl of the potato soup and a sandwich. I wasn't expecting sub style sandwiches to be on the menu but thought we could at least count on a good club sandwich but there was absolutely nothing on the "Nooner" menu that interested either of us. As a side note (and I'm no prude) but what is the deal with all the sexual innuendos? A drink name on the menu, the "nooner" menu, hostess in fishnet hose, bottles of liquor with the X-rated name all prominently pointing to the dining area. It's a Houlihan's, not a gentleman's club! I'd rather you offer good menu choices, decent service and good tasting food instead of trying to act like you are a gentlemen's club/cigar lounge! Flies kept buzzing around our food interrupting our meal (wonder how many actually landed on food while it was being prepared), waitress was in such a hurry to keep clearing our table that she was clanking plates all over and dropping stuff. It was after the lunch crowd so I don't know what the rush was. No offers to refill drinks which we wouldn't have taken anyways (soda tasted like plastic). We both agreed we would not be visiting Houlihan's again. Too many other places to dine at with better choices and better tasting food! This definitely felt like your typical chain restaurant trying to be upscale and failing miserably!

We have eaten here a number of times. Like most places in the burbs, it's crazy busy at prime time on the weekends. Service has usually been fine. It usually is just the two of us, so not a difficult table to wait. Menu selections are decent. Good sized bar. Never really had complaints on the food. Potato soup is very good. Rosemary chicken is good. Like most places, your mileage may vary depending on staff and your expectations. Would we go back? Yes

Worst. Service. Ever. I was there with my family and we were one of maybe 5 groups in the entire place. With full staff and few patrons, they still managed to give horrific service. We waited almost 30 mins for the waitress to even get to the table because she was too busy chatting with the rest of the staff. We had 4 people in our group, and when we FINALLY got our food all of our orders were wrong. When we kindly told the waitress she got defensive and then for the rest of the night we had a different waiter, who was just as bad if not worse. The loudest group in the restaurant was the group of staff standing at the host stand gossiping, yelling and laughing.... while all of the patrons were without any service. When we did get our *correct* order, the food was subpar. Also, they had virtually no vegetarian options and they weren't willing to substitute or alter any dishes. Get with the times, Houlihans. Some people don't eat meat. I will never go back and I have made sure to tell all of my friends and family to do the same. (Side note: One of the few high reviews on this site was written by an employee who I know personally. Take that into consideration)
