I love Jaliscos. It is great mexican food. It is one of the better Mexican restaurants in Galesburg, which has a crazy abundance. They have great combination platters, which I always appreciate, as I enjoy eating more than just one type of thing. The quesadillas are good, the guacamole is good, the tacos are good, the chile rellano is good, it's all good, the margaritas are good. The only drawback is that sometimes the staff is grouchy and all the extras cost too much extra. But I still get them anyway. Conveniently right off of the Galesburg exit on 74, you can stop right in on your way in or out of the dirty 'burg. Also, the just recently redid the restaurant, and there is no longer that weird divider in the middle, which probably opens it up for more seating, as this place gets packed.

Stopped on the long road to Utah from Indiana purely out of chance and desperation for a restaurant because there was nothing else around that looked any good. Very pleasantly surprised. Figured it would just be an average Mexican place but everything we had was very good. I got the combination that had a taco, enchilada, and quesadilla. All three were very good. They also give you this fun little soup before the meal that was just little flower - shaped noodles in vegetable broth or something like that. Friendly staff and relatively nice inside which was good considering some of the buildings in this area. Also VERY speedy and there were several people there.

Jalisco's quality has fallen way under par in the last few years. The salsa is like watered down ketchup and some onions. The staff is grumpy and not welcoming at all. I have to say Acapulco's is much better-friendly staff great food. I haven't eaten at El Rancheritos in a while-but Taco Bell is better than Jalisco's. It's really too bad as Jalisoc's was my favorite but it just seems that they don't care anymore.

Sass from the staff. Ignored us and didn't take our order even after asking to order. The tacos were just ok, so I will give it 2 stars rather than 1.

This place was awful. I've never had Mexican food that lacked any sort of flavor like this place did. The chips were basically cardboard, the salsa tasted like it was just diced canned tomatoes that they threw a few pieces of onion into, and the fajitas I ordered were really bland and only had the taste associated with cooking them. No flavoring what so ever. My girlfriend's enchiladas were covered in a runny tomato sauce, and the refried beans she had on the side didn't seem to have any beans in the liquidy broth they were served with. The "Spanish" rice didn't have any taste, and just appeared to be red colored white rice. We also got a pleasant soup dish prior to the meal, which consisted of tomato juice and wheat pasta things. It was gross. I don't ever plan on eating here again, as both myself and my girlfriend left and proceeded to want to throw up from the gross taste still lingering in our mouths. Luckily chocolate exists to get rid of disgusting tastes. Please, if you have a choice, don't go here. Even if you don't have a choice, don't go here. It isn't worth it at all.

Anyone who thinks this is good Mexican food must be used to getting burritos out of Machines. This place was horrible, bad food, bad service. It looked crowded so we stopped. What we failed to notice was there wasn't one Mexican in the crowd except for the people who work there. What a disappointment!

Absolutely awful. I grew up in Texas, so excuse me if I expect a little more than frozen microwaved enchiladas from a Mexican restaurant. For some reason, everyone in town seems to love this restaurant, so it's always packed especially on weekends. Both times I went, we were sat in the middle of the restaurant but it was still freezing cold inside from people coming in and out of the snow at the front. The margaritas were okay, the chips and salsa were as expected (meh), and the meal was just disgusting. Who screws up enchiladas, really? And don't even try to order tamales there! Plus the waitstaff is unfriendly and unhelpful, no doubt jaded from the tons of college students who flood the place every night. After giving this place two chances, I gave up and started going to El Rancherito on the other side of town. If you're a student in G'Burg, you'll probably be dragged to Jaliscos at least once, but avoid it if you can!

Colleen B. is right - the salsa now is just forgettable. I also was unsatisfied with the tamales on my last visit. Some people continue to go apeshit for this place, but for me it's just food in my belly that (usually) I won't regret later.

They don't impress to start. The salsa is one of the worst I've had--tastes like it's straight from a can with no flavor and no spice. Guacamole was a little better but fairly bland. Luckily, the Jalisco fajitas saved the day. The chicken, steak, and shrimp was very tasty, as was the rest of the dish. The prices are very reasonable too. Maybe try the cheese dip as an appetizer instead of the salsa.

I've been to Jalisco's on many occasions. The last of which was kind of an abnormal experience wherein the service was pretty terrible. Normally its better but this particular evening it was atrocious. The food was great. I had a very delicious burrito. Unfortunately because I was still hungover at dinner time, I could not force myself to sample one of their wonderful margaritas. I mean how can you have mexican food without a marg? To me its sacrilege!

My husband and I went to this restaurant at least once a month while in college. Jaliscos has been in I'm not sure how many different buildings, but is always excellent. We're heading back to town in September and will be eating at least once in our favorite restaurant.

Best Mexican food in Galesburg. Large servings and good flavor. I've been eating here for years (and since their very first location in town) and personally think it's the best Mexican food in the burg. Try the Monterrey Burrito or their pico de gallo. Not a lot of places serve lemonade anymore either but theirs is spot on. Good place and great value for your dollar.

I'm so torn about this place... It's a small, family-owned place that has pretty decent Mexican food. Personally, a lot of the dishes are just loooooaded with cheese, so much so that I generally leave there feeling a little nasty. However, everyone I go with seems very pleased and I'm usually the only one who feels that way. My biggest beef is that at some point they changed their chips and salsa. They used to have mind boggling chips and salsa... best I'd ever had. Now.... not so much. I mean, it's good, but not like it used to be. All that said, I'll probably be back there every time I'm in Galesburg, and that because it's a favorite of my friends... they'd probably give it 4 or 5 stars (and Jamie J. did) so there you go.

This is the best Mexican I have had in the Burg. It's not great, but it's good.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
