Good Mexican food is extremely hard to find in the suburbs! I'm personally used to the South Side of Chicago joints. Of all the places I have tried in the suburbs, this place is definitely my favorite. I've only been here a couple times. They're quick, not expensive, always nice and good food. The last time I ordered from here, I ordered over the phone for pick up. They said it would be ready in 10 minutes, and it was. I definitely suggest their Enchiladas Poblanos!

Food is great always crowded, outside of building had a "face lift", great. Inside needs to be updated or cleaned, bathroom is filthy, kitchen is filthy, afraid I am going to get sick there, people handling money are also cooking without gloves, yuck!

Great food, real Mexican food. Not some taco bell bs. The service is great and super friendly

This is my go-to Mexican restaurant. I started carrying more cash on me because they don't take credit cards. You never know when a guac craving will hit. I need to always be prepared. Family run and always friendly, quick service. Basic menu items done well. Nothing fancy, just fresh, fast, home-made food. Speaking of guac cravings, anyone know a chemist that can analyze this for me? Seriously addicting. There has to be a secret ingredient with habit forming properties. I'm with Emily B, that nacho cheese sauce is seriously tasty. I won't tell anyone if you don't, but I would use it as shower gel. Fat-girl tip: Mix that nacho sauce with the salsa and pair it with the guac and chips. Total time-of-the-month food. The parking lot is small and aggravating so be prepared for a headache. It's right on the majorly busy Rt 30 and 45 intersection. Call in your order to avoid dealing with it.

The best Mexican food restaurant in the Lincolnway area. I have had all of them and have not found any restaurant to match the quality of the food at Buenos Nachos. The staff is very friendly and they have your food ready in 15 min. They give you many different condiments to eat with your food. Chips are homemade and quacamole is outstanding! The price is excellent as well. I can feed my family of 7 for under 30.00. Would highly recommend trying Buenos Nachos.

Best Mexcian Food in entire Lincoln-Way Area. Be sure to order the Buenas Nachos Tacos. I want Tacos Now!!!!

This place used to be great.Like eat there everyday great. But like many other reviewer have said the quality has dropped a bunch.

Ew. Why is it such a struggle to find good food in the suburbs? Flavorless guacamole. Flavorless tacos. Dirty floors. Dirty bathrooms. This place doesn't even offer Pepsi or Coke, they offer an off-brand, RC Cola. I'm confused why previous yelpers would say this is the "best Mexican they've ever had." are these people homeless and food deprived? do these people live under a rock? If you live in the city, DO NOT drive to Frankfort for this food, as previously recommended on yelp. DON'T.

  • Dan K.

I've lived in the area for 35 years. This is still the best mexican food we have locally. Even the Mexican's go there for lunch! I guess they agree too! The horchata is great...and steak anything rocks.

This has been a long time favorite for Mexican food in the Lincolnway area.Service is quick and the food is good and fairly reasonable. The only downside is the location is rather small and has only a hand full of tables. If you try going here between 11:30-12:30 during the week, you may wind up waiting outside because of the crowd. Try going on a weekend or in the evening. No ambiance, just good food.

It is probably going on eight years since my family and I have been going here for Mexican food. There are definitely a lot of good Mexican restaurants in this area but I believe that Buenas Nachos has been very consistent in the quality of their food. Some favorites for my family and I are their Bear Burrito, Tamales, Zopes and Tortas. I believe that they make their own zopes tortilla and also their own tamales, but I could be wrong. And oh, yes, their tacos are all very good as well, especially their lengua (beef tongue) tacos. I would have to travel to the Pilsen neighborhood to find another Mexican restaurant that comes close to this place. It is actually quite an unassuming store front in a small strip mall on LaGrange road but the value for your money can't be beat.

Buenas Nachos is a longtime favorite with Frankfort residents like me. As a vegetarian, it can be tough for me to find good food, but I can always count on Buenas Nachos to have awesome quesadillas, rice, and guacamole. If you're ready for a kick, try the spicy carrots that are available for free with your order! They're mouth-watering. The staff at Buenas Nachos is polite and friendly, and their prices can't be beat. You can see the kitchen, so you know your food is being cooked in a clean environment. I would never use any other Mexican carry-out in the SW burbs. Buenas Nachos all the way!!!

  • Patricia K.

I grew up on Buenas Nachos. And truth be told, it probably made me a burrito snob. I fully expect to meet or exceed their amazing food when I visit other places. But in my 27 years, nobody has come close to my childhood favorite. Their burritos really ARE as big as your head -- so take THAT Shitpolte.

I love a good cheap mexican fast food joint, and this place satisfied. Comparable to any of its kind in the city, yet conveniently (for me) located in the southwest suburbs. Quick service, large menu, good prices. Can't go wrong.

  • D M.

I loved this place when it first opened. I went there all the time with my family. But, as time went on, it seems like they've changed meat vendors many times... or their meat vendors meat quality became very inconsistent. So, usually about 80% of the meat in my food is actually just chewy fat. There are much better places in Tinley and Orland to eat in my opinion, so I quit going here. I ate it a few times after I got completely sick of it just because my family still likes it. But, I really can't get myself to pay for this fat anymore. Don't go here... unless you like chewy fat tacos/burritos.

I would have to concur with Kelly. This place is great. Fantastic and cheap mexican food. I eat there at least once a week. The chicken and steak taco's are great. I also recommend the Bueno's Nachos Taco. It is basically a Steak Fajitas taco with avocado. Fantastic. Also, If you like hot salsa get the "Pico Hot" salsa. It is their pico de gallo mixed with their hot salsa. Their green mild salsa is also very tasty. Has a slight garlic taste to it. Very nice.

Ok I know the focus should be on places in Chicago, but for some reason I have a ridiculous craving for my favorite Mexican place today and I thought I should spread the word in case anyone finds themselves out in the southwest suburbs. This is seriously the best Mexican food ever. I don't know what they do to the tacos but I have never had a taco from another restaurant that compares. The rice is incredible, and their chips and salsa are completely addictive. They have a pretty large menu and of course it is dirt cheap. Its something I have to get everytime I head out to the area to visit my family. Its just a little hole in the wall type of place and there is not a lot of seating- the focus is pretty much on take out. So highly recommended, its almost worth braving the Dan Ryan even if you have no other reason to be out in that area :) I wish they would open up a location in the city, but as far as I know, this is their only shop (I'll have to ask the next time I go in)

I had the shrimp burrito special. The shrimp were breaded and tasted like they were bad - very fishy tasting. Only ate half of it. Felt like I was going to be sick before I left. Had my wife drive home. As soon as I got home I got sick. On top of it, we were overcharged. They were busy and didn't get up to the counter because I was feeling sick from the bad tasting shrimp. If you sit by the bathrooms they will make you sick from the smell. The place is dirty and no one making food wears gloves. Will not be going back. Can get better Mexican at El Cortez in Mokena.

GREAT service, authentic food, yummy horchata!! My husband got the Superman burrito and he's loving it as I type. My dad got chorizo and egg tacos and they were tasty. My mom and I got chicken tacos. Awesome flavor and the avocado we added to it was super fresh. Their pico de gallo was super fresh also and nice and spicy. Definitely coming back again. We came on a Monday night, and the young man who took our order was very helpful, friendly, and kind. The place was packed so they're on to something!!

Best Chile Relleno taco ANYWHERE. The older lady that sometimes works there (owner/fedora hat) can be a little grouchy sometimes, but nothing that eclipses the quality of the food. Outstanding. Rice is extraordinary, guac is amazing, mole that is truly exceptional. Note: pull the door HARD. The air pressure makes it tough.

  • Clint B.

I don't see why some people hate this place; I thought this place was fantastic. I placed a large order via phone and the guy was polite and repeated my order. I came in to get my food, and the cashier threw in some sauce for the tacos, along with those amazing pickled carrots and jalapenos. The transaction was easy, but was the food good? It was. It was very good. The food was outstanding. I've been to a lot of Mexican places in the hoods on Chi-town, and this place can compete with any of them. Plus, the prices are very reasonable. Most tacos are under $2, and I got a large nachos with beef for $5,89, which was HUGE (easily split between 4 people, and I'm a big eater). The prices for guac were also reasonable, especially compared to what Chipotle charges. The menu is available online, and you can call ahead to avoid waiting around for your food. Everyone I encountered was friendly and helpful. I see no reason why this place deserves less than 5-stars.

Love this place. great food all the time, They also get the order correct.!!! nothing but pros. only con is they are closed on Mondays

Best tacos around and always busy. If your calling for takeout - be sure your order is correct because it is always rushed. Even if you order and pay extra for the guac - they do tend to forget it sometimes. But the food is always delicious and the horchata is always awesome!

  • Chris D.

I have been going here for 10 years because I did not have may choices for tacos burritos etc... I try to call in an order and get placed on hold for 10 mins. The hot sauce is like water. The Tacos are not great .Then when I get there I wait for another 10 mins to receive it. This place Is self proclaimed successful on their website but have not put 1 dollar into the place. Finally there is a good taco joint that recently opened on rt 30 and 80th Ave called My Taco they have a clean organized taco joint with great food and customer service. This is where I will be eating My Tacos from now on.

When I first started going to this place I tried their burritos and tacos and the usual, the items you would order from any new to you Mexican restaurants. I didn't find them spectacular but they were good and the prices were reasonable. Then I decided to try the chicken quesadilla dinner. Ever since then I've been completely addicted to it and that's the only thing I order from there. You get three of them and with the rice and beans the meal is extremely filling. I usually have one queso leftover. I'm a fairly frequent customer as I'll call the order in on the drive home from work and grab it once I'm back in Frankfort.

Great food, massive (MASSIVE!) portions, but kinda weird service. Nevertheless, it's a south suburbs staple.

  • Gina M.

We went there this past weekend for the first time and loved it. The best time to go to these places sometimes is when its busy, then the meat gets turned over quicker to fresh and there's less time on the grill for it to get hard. The meat flavor and quality was delicious. The service was excellent and the prices aren't too bad. I loved the rice and beans and I usually do not eat beans. The chips are just chips nothing special but they were ok. They serve RC products which I am not fond of, but they're self service which helps a lot. They could also turn their TV down a bit! LOUD!!! I would go there again in a heartbeat. Hopefully I wont have any issues like some people here did and i hope MY visit wasn't the fluke! It would eb a five if they sold Pepsi or coke and turned the TV down. I know, I'm too picky

Overall just average at best. Would give 3 stars if not for the salsa. Pace is better, not sure where they bought it but it's awful. Red sauce is good, Pico above average. Food was average at best, refried beans taste of a can. We won't be returning.

I have been going here since I was young.....the food is great during the week and the weekend is just alright. The kids run it on the weekend and its bad service than too. You are lucky if you get what you paid for on the weekends.....the biggest problem that I have is the young loud mouth girl that wears spandex pants and you can see everything you didnt want to see. My son asked me dad why are her pants that tight...anyway....I hate when your standing in line and she screams NEXT......I feel like im back in the army....avoid her they need to calm her down. NEXTED review....lol

Its ok. I wasn't terribly impressed with the beef in the burrito. And the al pastor tacos were only so-so. The guacamole and the fresh salsa were pretty tasty though.

  • Steve H.

Happened to be in the area, so we popped in. What a busy place! We ordered the steak taco dinner, had to be one of the best steak tacos that iI ever had. The guacamole was fresh and very good as was the rice. The regular nachos were kind of boring, wont order those again. My wife had the chicken flautas, they were good but we both agree that the tacos were far the best. We will be back!

    (4)
  • Alisha M.

I love this place; I'm really really spoiled when it comes to Mexican food but they do pretty well. They're fast and everything always comes out hot. Their chicken tacos are good but I go for their al pastor and tamales. Even the lengua is good here!

I picked up some Buenas Nachos for the familia after a long baseball practice. I was hoping for the best. I was wrong again. I ordered nachos, tacos, tostadas and a burrito. It smelled wonderful on the way home. The food looked great. I picked up the tostada and I took a bite. Guess what I had in my mouth. A huge chunk of fat or gristle. I pitched the tostada. I tried the steak burrito next. One bite---two bites---three bites. SURPRISE!!!!! A huge chunk of fat. I almost puked. I then opened up the burrito and found other hunks of fat and or gristle. My kids liked the nachos and the chicken tacos. This place is jammed packed all the time. I cant be the only one getting fat and or gristle in my steak items. Oh yeah--The place is filthy. Take a look down the hallway and see how filthy it is.

Picked up dinner here on a suggestion from a few different friends who lived in the area. Definitely worth the drive from New Lenox. I ordered by phone and requested carry out. The total bill was $12 which included 5 tacos, a quesadilla and a generous side of rice. The food was fresh, authentic, and delicious. The ground beef in the tacos was flavorful and the chorizo tacos were spicy. Would like to try a tamale next time. We didn't order any chips or salsa so I can't comment on those. This is my new go-to mexican restaurant as I think it's much tastier and affordable than El Burrito Loco in New Lenox.

  • Silvia T.

I had been here a few times but long time passed since my second to last visit and this one. This time I ordered 1 veggie sope and 1 chile relleno taco. The sope was bland and as I paid extra for avocado I only got one thin slice on it... Cheap cheap cheap. Then the chile relleno taco tasted funny like it was old or the tortilla pan fried in old oil. Sorry but not a big fan anymore.

Buenas Nachos is by far my favorite Mexican restaurant in the Frankfort area for tacos and nachos. Think dive restaurant for Mexican food. The service is always friendly and everyone is always working hard. The beef nachos are my total guilty pleasure. Don't tell anyone but, I adore the orange melty nacho cheese. Plus it is super inexpensive as a small order is plenty for an entire meal and a large will feed a whole family. Sometimes I split the nachos and order some steak tacos too. Yum! The meat is well seasoned and the cheese, tomatoes and cilantro make for perfect toppings. The best part is once you put their number in your phone and have the menu memorized, you can call your order in and it will be ready when you arrive. ;)

  • T S.

By far the best steak burrito I've ever had! I love their hot salsa! Only downside is the consistency of the food. The meat tends to get a little overcooked at times

    (4)
  • Lorie S.

Terrible, Terrible attitudes. Very ignorant when I went in to place a catering order. I should have known to walk out then. However I ordered 5 dozen tamales for a party. We picked up the tamales the night of the party to find out we were 2 dozen short. I immediately called them and talked to a gentlemen to let them know I was 2 dozen short, whom was reiturating our conversation to a woman. The woman started yelling in the back ground saying there was 5 dozen in there & it was their word against mine. I asked to talk to her and she refused to get on the phone I was devistated, needless to say I was very upset when I got off the phone ( and short 2 doz tamales) and in talking to my guests quite a few of them had run into problems while being in there, attitudes, wrong orders, hair in food etc. They are not the only Mexican Restaurant in Frankfort and I personally would advise you to try elsewhere.

We used to go here often. The quality and price of the food has changed and not for the better. Our meat always has lots of gristle in it, they skimp on the meat, the place is very dirty, food all over the cooking area, The dining area is also dirty. We go to Speedy Burrito now on 179th and LaGrange. Their portions are huge and delicious.

When the owner is here the food is superb!!!! Food is so authentic here and not cheaply made like a franchise chain. Inexpensive also but great food well worth the price. I go here whenever I'm craving mexican food.

Always good and very reasonable. Been going here for several years. Never have been disappointed.

It must be very hard to make mexican food, because no one on the southside knows how! We walked in and every table was dirty and there were 3 people in line. I ordered the presidente steak burrito and the guac with chips. As I waited it started to get busy. And as they called out the numbers I got a little confused? I saw our food on the tray and the only thing that was missing was the guacamole. 6 numbers later and they decided to finish our order. The rito had time to cool by this point and as far as taste, it was completely average. The guac was good, but not for almost 7 bucks. I am not sure what the big deal is about this place. but if I am going to spend 25 bucks for two people, I expect to be served at a clean table.

  • Chad L.

This is the best Mexican food I have every had. I come to this place at least 3 times a month. The food is outstanding and the staff is always friendly. If I'm ever put on death row, my last meal is going to be from Buenas Nachos.

    (5)
  • Todd N.

This place is the most authentic around! The staff is kind and aways smiling! Family operated since the beginning. Closed on Sundays for the simple fact they go to church and spend time with their families. If you leave hungry, there is something wrong. The menu is full of every mexican cuisine you could want! Go enjoy Buenas Nachos today!

  • Amanda N.

Horrible. Was excited when I entered because they were very busy. However I was greatly disappointed. Ordered nachos. I've had better at my kids school concession stand. The burrito was equally as bad. Would not recommend

  • Eric A.

It's time for this place to get knocked down a peg. The food is still the same but they've begun charging for tings... like cilantro. I got an order of nachos and asked for cilantro on it. Everywhere else locally, cilantro is free. I was somehow charged 80 cents for cilantro! Really? I can go down the street and buy 2 bunches of cilantro for 66 cents. I inquired about the charge and the girl said "we charge extra for everything now." I felt very ripped off to get charged 16% of what the food costed just to get some chopped up cilantro on top. Very disappointing.

  • Luv To Travel X.

I pulled because the place was busy, but then again it was a Saturday night and they should be. I expected more from a 4 Star Avg/13 Reviews spot. Steak Burrito was bland and greasy! Steak Nachos were sloppy (I've had my share of great Mexican food, so I am confident in my review) The chicken quesidillla with lettuce and tomato wasn't something i was use to BUT it was very good. I felt their free hot/mild sauces were a bit bland. I will say the people were very polite and they were fast. If I was in the area I would go back for the chicken quesidillas but without the lettuce and tomato.

  • Cam A.

I am sorry Buenos Nachos for tryin another place (right down the street). I have learned my lesson. The chips here are the BEST. The Guacamole is AWESOME. I love the taco salads. Everything is fresh and Good. The service is great. Everyone is so nice and polite. I will never stray again!

Love love love this place been coming here for over 15 years. My favorites here are the nachos and the pastor tacos. Only downside is sometimes there is no room to eat inside. Seating is minimal

    (4)
  • Anna J.

This place serves some of the best Mexican food on the south side! We've been eating here for years, and have some definite favorites. The Bear Burrito is really good, packed with steak and potatoes! The tacos are amazing, and their horchata is very good, not too much cinnamon. The nachos are fairly standard, but they are tastey. The decor is not much too look at, but in my experience, really good Mexican food is often associated with a certain aesthetic. A family favorite for great Mexican food.

  • Greg H.

I absolutely love this place. I have yet to find another place that tastes similar to Buenas Nachos. Many places out in Chicagoland taste like they all buy their stuff from the same supplier, but Buenas Nachos does everything a bit differently. I love their chips The Guac is awesome IMHO The green/red sauces are awesome And the flour-shell steak tacos are fantastic. I cannot recommend this place enough.

  • Kate H.

I must admit years ago when i first had this mexican it was just ok but now i find i compare any other place to them and would always choose buenos nachos. I LOVE the steak taco salad, guacamole and always get the pico on the side.

I've only ever ordered tacos here. But they're really good tacos. There's tables, but it's more of a take out kind of place.

  • Bryan M.

This is a great place with very good food. I recently visited it with my wife and daughter and we each had something different. Each of the meals was very good. And, the total tab was around $13. The restaurant was clean, the service exceptional, and the restrooms were also clean (you can tell a lot about a place by its restrooms). I highly recommend this place, especially for the Burritos. Very good flavor. My only issue, and admittedly this is an area that most people won't care about, is that they serve RC products. I find this to be somewhat common with Mexican restaurants. In my humble opinion, RC products are inferior to either Coke or Pepsi. I hope that it saves restaurants a lot of money because I imagine that they lose a lot of revenue by not offering Coke or Pepsi. Buenas does have can drinks available, but most of the products offered are still RC products. If someone from Buenas Nachos is reading this, your food is great. But, I recommend that you stock your refrigerator with a variety of Coke and Pepsi can products. You would have made a few extra bucks from me and my family.

Been going here for my quick mexican fix for at least 10 years! If you live in the area and haven't tried this - you are crazy! Its a whole in the wall place from the outside and nothing fancy in the inside but better than any sit down mexican restaurant. Very affordable! Now takes credit cards (back in the day it was only cash) Service is always friendly. Try the Horchata - the best ever.

  • James D.

I looked all around for good mexican food in the suburbs, which is a task itself, but Buenas Nachos is far better than others in the area. I also work next to Pilsen in the city where there is an abundance of taco places, and this place tops them as well. I know that some reviews said the tacos or guacamole was flavorless, but maybe your taste buds were not working that day. Maybe you should stick to Taco Bell with the processed meat that you are so used to. This way I will get my food quicker. Once again, if you are craving for good mexican food, then Buenas Nachos is the place to go!

One of the better mexican place in the area..I like it and its prices good. Is it the best no but is it the best in the area yes...Give this place a try if your in the area..

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
