Wow - almost 3 years since my last review and visit and I must say this place hasn't missed a beat. I'm now working in the area so I'll be there a little more often now. When I got there, the place was almost full around 12:40PM. I was sat and had my food in less than 10 minutes. Pretty good reuben sandwich, Stephanie was my server and did a great job - never needed to ask for a thing. I rarely write updated reviews, but over the 5-6 years I have been here, the fact that this place still consistently offers good service and food is a real credit to their business. Looking forward to heading back soon.
My sister loves this cafe but they must have been having an off day with our meals when we went. I had the veggie potato pancake benedict. The potato pancake on the bottom tasted slightly mushy, and the cheese had a runny quality to it that was almost like eating the monterey jack version of Velveeta. Service was top notch though. Our meals were made in lightning time and drinks were refilled as needed.
Definitely worth checking out. Large, easy to read single page menu with choices broken down into groups.... scrambles, omelettes, pancakes / waffles, eggs, etc. Service was spot on... refilled my coffee several times and my meal ( The Mardi Gras ) was done to perfection and delicious. Rye toast was a nice, thickly cut slice and toasted just how I like it. Definitely going back here again.

This place is absolutely fantastic! Their steak is phenomenal. The chips are fresh, and so is the salsa which I love because it has green onions in it! The only reason I gave this place 4 stars is because it is like 6 something for a little plate of guacamole, which is some of the best guac I've ever had. If you are looking for a place that is reasonably priced, has fresh ingredients, and delicious at the same time, this is your place. On a nice day, choose outdoor seating. Even though it is along the highway, you can't see it. You can see the occasional train that passes by which is also fun, especially for the kids. The service is great, and I am so glad I found this and will continue to go back as long as I live in FRG!!!!!
Enjoyed the food here immensely. Great service...SUPER fresh!! Delicious!! Can't wait to go back!!!
Lived here for 17 years and this was my first time to visit. Decided to order carry out instead of a sit down. Impressed with our order. Friendly service and the food was tasty. Will return, hopefully to enjoy the patio before it gets too chilly.

Jimano’s Pizzeria

Reviews:
Their Italian beef with onions, green peppers and mozzarella cheese is consistently wonderful. Not salty like most. Great people work here. Pleasant and wanting to give best customer service, even when the place is bustling with phone orders and pickups. Wish their outdoor tables were located away from rt 14 traffic, which is hardly ever quiet.
Jimano's is a mini-chain based out of suburban Chicago; they started in 1997, have about a dozen locations and have started franchising. Their first Denver, CO location was named the best pizza in the city by a local television station after only four months of operation. They have the requisite Chicago accompaniments on the menu, including Italian beef and other sandwiches, hot appetizers, salads, ribs, and pasta. They offer both dine in and delivery, catering, and most locations offer online ordering. They have their own app to facility your order. They state that they have a commitment to using the highest quality ingredients. They offer a daily special which is quite economical - for instance on Monday you can get a 16″ pie with up to five toppings for $16.99, and that can result in a savings of 25% or more. I took advantage of the Monday special, stopped in a store, ordered, and waited 10 minutes or so for the pie to be done. The store employs a 'carousel' type oven, which I had heard of, but not seen. With multiple decks revolving like a ferris wheel, running off gas or electricity, carousels let you pack a whole lot of baking capacity into a small footprint. Jimano's thin crust pie was great. The cracker thin crust has a hint of cornmeal, the pork sausage was very flavorful, the sauce was not overpowering, and the cheese in a unique blend. A heavy dose of herbs finishes off the pie. If I lived in the Chicago area, Jimano's would be one of my regular go-to pizzas, for sure.
Had my first pizza from here yesterday after my recent fiascoes with Rosati's in Cary. The pizza here is Deee-lish-ous! I have a new pizza place! The pizza had a great flavor to the sauce, a great balance of cheese to other toppings and they cooked it perfectly when I asked for it to be 'well done.' (I like the cheese browned.) The crust was perfectly thin and crunchy, too. You have a new loyal customer!

Dead End Tavern

Fox River Grove, 60021
Reviews:
It is a dive bar but a darn good one. The atmosphere is great. The bar is old, the chairs are cheap, there are games all around. But it feels like home and newbies are welcomed as much as the regulars. This has the feel of a neighborhood place. Beer selection from the taps is a little limited but there are plenty of bottle choices. The great part about this bar is the food. Fresh made and good. The burgers and pizzas are great, the fish fry is also good. There are fresh made potato chips too!!! This is a great stop and it is right on the Fox River so one could even boat here!
Don't miss the pizza! Great friendly hole in the wall! By boat or car! But wait, remember the old Charlotte's Pizza off Ela and Route 14? Yep, they had Leinenkeugels REGULAR on draught, well, you can find that icy potion here and it's on draught served in totally frozen beer mugs like your great grandpa loved! Pizza is super with awesome think crust and the pies are totally the Dead End's custom recipe from sauce to sausage. Go for it, the wife and I wish we didn't keep thinking it was more "dive" than Jive!
I've stopped here several times while out on bike rides. It's the perfect place to get a High Life before continuing on your way out of the city. It's pretty much at the line between boring suburban traffic and the awesome roads of Lake County. The outdoor benched tables were a great way to enjoy the mild March weather. Food for vegans is very limited. My "meals" typically consist of spicy curly fries. I've tried the side salad as well; it's a relatively generous portion and actually has black olives and mushrooms in addition to the usual iceberg lettuce and whatnot. Your fellow bar-goers can vary. There have been plenty of chill moments with the regulars. I had the unfortunate experience of witnessing a troupe of "bros" and their lady friends descend upon the bar last time. We could not get out of there fast enough - and one of them followed us out! Between drunken ramblings about how he missed his motorcycle, touching ours and trying to light the wrong end of his cigarette, he managed to make it a less pleasant afternoon. Hopefully it isn't like this all summer.

Panera Bread

Reviews:
I'm a panera junkie and this location is painfully slow. Been there twice once at 8:15Pm and once at 4:30pm. Not busy at all but the food prep is so slow! I go to Elgin at lunch rush and they are faster. Pick up the pace please!!
First to review?! Holla! Did you know that Panera has added a Cuban chicken panini to their menu? Pretty good, indeed. Description: All-natural, antibiotic-free chicken, smoked, lean ham, sweet and spicy pickle chips, Swiss, chipotle mayo & sun-dried tomato ale mustard on their housemade Focaccia. Verdict: it hit the spot! No, it can't compare to an authentic Cuban, but it was definitely tasty and kept away the hunger pangs for hours afterward. Free refills and free wi-fi make this a great spot to get work done!
See previous review re: $10 certificate to make up for gnarly caesar salad. The certificate never arrived. Bogus customer service. The only reason I'm giving it two stars instead of one is that their goodwill bucket with me is still pretty full for their corporate citizenship during the summer storm of 2011. Come on, Panera. You can do better. I've witnessed you better. Step up.

Went with a group of 8 and had a delightful experience. We all ordered drinks and a steak or lamb dinner. Food was surprisingly good! The included salads were delicious, much better than normal. Service was great. The owner turned off the tv next to our table upon request. A classic steakhouse. Loved it.
This place continues to go down hill. Danny is just a greedy Greek. Hasn't been good in years. The worst fish fry around.
I can see how certain people would find this place nostalgic, After all, there are lots of places in the Fox Valley that are throwbacks to a bygone day when lead paint tasted delicious and everyone's toilets flushed directly into the river. This place, on the other hand, just feels old. It's like the owners are wringing every last cent out of it before lighting it on fire and claiming the insurance money. The food was actually pretty good, as was the service. The bar was fairly limited but I wasn't exactly expecting Lagunitas and Belle Glos when I walked in. So, while I wasn't running out the door, I probably won't be back. All the other comments about this place being full of bluehairs are absolutely true... and it's probably good they don't know what Yelp is... or credit cards...

Dunkin’ Donuts

Fox River Grove, 60021
Reviews:
Worst service of any location I have been to. They more often than not get my order wrong. My last visit takes the cake... I ordered a unsweetened Green Tea with Lemon. Was given a regular tea. When I asked if that was green because it looked dark he held it up to the light and said "It Looks Green To Me". I said it looks like regular and then he says to me "Well we only serve green tea pre-sweetened." So his first response was a lie since he was fully aware that he gave me regular. His second response was completely wrong because that is not true of their green tea. So we have both a liar and incompetent at the same time. But this is not some rare instance. This place is always making mistakes. They don't pay attention to what you order. Hot when you want cold. Large vs Medium. It's more often than not just bad service. I will go out of my way not to use this particular DnD. Why not 1 star? Well it's still a quality drink. They have the same ingredients as the next one. They just don't remember how to prep it.
Avoid this place at all costs... After 2 years of religiously buying donuts from this location after church there was a "policy change"... You now cannot order specific kinds of donuts when going through the drive-thru, they will only give you a dozen miscellaneous donuts unless you go inside to pick out your donuts... They must've moved to a timer system & consider it a fail if a drive-thru customer takes too long? So instead of hiring more people they limit your options... Last time I'll use the location or any other Dunkin Donuts for that matter! After reading the other reviews I'm reminded of the time a girl inside the location took a coffee out of the garbage & then picked out donuts for a drive-thru customer without washing here hands. Corporate Donut FAIL!!!
The coolatta machine at this location has been down for 6 months..apparently it's finally working, but they don't tell you until after you've ordered and paid that they can't make the coffee flavored one you've ordered. Ridiculous! They need to get their s#!t together, won't bother wasting my time stopping at this location again
