    We went here with a large group (15) however we did have a reservation. Although we got seated in a relatively timely manner, it took a ridiculously long time for to get our drinks (even just water) and food. And our checks for that matter. It was right around three hours from seating to leaving. It seemed like they gave us the greenest waiter they had available. When he finally brought the first half of our drinks, he set the large drink tray down on the hot cook top. Several people tried to tell him that the tray was melting. It left some sort of plasticine residue on the cooking surface, and smelled awful. We had to tell the chef to use the other cook top, even after he tried to clean it because there was still visible residue. The food was so/so. Not very impressive at all. I paid $14 for the only vegetarian tepanyaki entrée, which was not an entrée at all. It was the side dishes served with everyone else's entrées (salad, non-vegetarian soup, fried rice, and mixed vegetables). I expected to receive some sort of entrée, especially for that price. The only thing that I can comment positively about was the performance of the tepanyaki chef. He did a good job, and was quite entertaining. The food was Ok, but definitely not worth the price. Another unfortunate tidbit about this restaurant, they automatically added an 18% tip due to the large size of our party. I'm sorry, but our waiter was awful. He did not deserve 18% for taking 3 hours of my life and exposing us to plastic fumes. I won't be back.

    The sashimi here is fresh and thick cut. They do not put rice on the plate like some places do. Because you shouldn't with sashimi. The prices are reasonable and I only eat the appetizer sashimi. I also like the hibachi but find it a tad bland and I love spicy food. Wish they had hot sauce like the Thais.

    I went to eat here after my daughter's Lacrosse game at McKendree, we were soaked and wet from the rain. Already not feeling on point. Our glasses were never refilled, my niece ran of Mr. PIbb. When I left my phone gets a text showing charges going through on my card. My waiter Ryan put a higher tip through on my card so I turned around and went back in and he denied it stating that the credit card company puts through a charge to hold then will credit or refund amount. The manager was right there and did nothing, my card still shows no refund but amount with extra tip added.

    Four of us - two couples went to Shogun for dinner on a Sunday night. The place was nearly deserted. Our friends ordered two entrees and a sushi appetizer. We ordered the $19.95 "all you can eat" sushi special for each of us. We started with three rolls in our first order. Our friends' main meal came first - unfortunately, the meals were delivered before their appetizer. Not very good folks. Our sushi came. We munched happily but then we had to search out the waitress to order more. We ordered two more rolls. We waited and waited. The sushi chef meanwhile was putting out platters of sushi to other tables. We finally got our second serving. Remember there are two of us eating this as our main meal. Our friends were through eating their meal and their late arriving appetizer. We were still trying to lasso someone to order more sushi. We finally got a third round of two more rolls. And, we gave up. Our friends had been sitting there for at least 20 minutes after they finished eating waiting for us. So lesson learned. Do not order the all you can eat sushi unless you are - a. not hungry, b. have a few hours to wait and c. NEVER on a busy night. We could have easily eaten several more rolls.

    In town for business and staying at the nearby Four Point Sheraton, I was glad to find a place that I could get some comfort food (to me) for dinner. I opted for the dinner side rather than the hibachi since it is awkward enough eating alone. They had a whole show going on with taiko drums and a dragon head on the other side! I went with a bento box and some steamed shumai. The bento box was huge - so much more food than they give you back home that I thought the waitress must think I was a pig for also getting an appetizer! You get soup and salad with it as well, so there was no way I was going to finish it all. The box had California roll, shrimp and veggie tempura, chicken teriyaki and white rice. All of it was very fresh and tasty. I thought for the quantity of food that I got that the price was also very reasonable as with tip it was still under $30.

    this is my fav location of shogun they havr habachi or you can eat on side w out. also outdoor seating and sushi great for groups or date or family you'll like it. chicken or steak or veggie it's all good

    I used to really love this place. There was a time my husband ate here everyday for a week to master his fried rice (Now his fried rice is pretty famous). I just ate here today and it seems they've changed. Their food has decreased, while their prices increased. I'm a fan if Sakura also so I think I might have to switch to them. The miso wasn't so good, the rice was not as flavorful and they were missing the pink sauce that everyone loves. They normally put on a good show, which is good to have a little entertainment over the usual dinner.

    Took my little man here for his birthday, his choice! Food was amazing and the experience was top notch. The only thing I didnt like was the $5.00 upcharge for the birthday experience. Watching tje chef's do work was really cool. Decent prices for the amount of food you get. Overall good experience!

    Wow. Came to spend over $200 and didn't get seen for 20 min, waitress was rude and never brought us our drinks and beer, food was soggy, cold, and WRONG and it was just a complete disaster. All the manager could do was give us 20% off and after that we still got the worse service in the world. They need to get their priorities strait and hire servers who understand to be ON it, sushi chefs who know not to put the sauces on until right before they are served and cooks who don't LITERALLY throw the appetizer in the oil to heat it up bc u sent it back bc it was ICE COLD. Disgusting and will NEVER go there again.

    Between myself, my husband, and a couple friends we decided our experience was not the best. I know my friend said she would give them one more chance sometime in the future. I have been to one other shogun and would go back if it was the only hibachi in the area. The shogun experience seems to lake flavor. I ordered the filet and shrimp. Not only did the cook way overcook my medium rare steak to almost Well done it did have good flavor and was tender just not cooked the way i wanted. My shrimp was disgusting, it tasted like your lowest end bottom feeding shrimp with that dirty taste. I love shrimp so this was very disappointing to me. Even the shirley temple i ordered tasted flat and not so shirley templish. I was surprised to see that we did not get the noodles as we did at the other shogun. The food was skimpy and i actually finished everything but the shrimp which i can never do. This is by far the first time i have seen a hibachi chef literally throw broccoli for you to catch, isn't it usually shrimp? Broccoli is hard to catch in your mouth, it was hysterical though watching this feat. I just would never come back to this particular location. The food was not great especially for $30.00 pp. I understand your paying for the experience but the quality of food should accompany that price. I will be trying other hibachi's in the area. If you are thinking of one detour to another one.

    Their management and customer service is horrible. My sister and I went in and asked for a booth on the dining side. We were told the booth should be cleaned in 5 minutes. 20 minutes later the booth was still not cleaned. When I brought it up to the host, he cleaned it himself; however, the second host seated another party who came in after us. When asked to speak to the manager, the manage said it was our fault we didn't write our names on the list and walked away. He refused to correct the situation. Based on management alone, I refuse to go their again. Crowd is no excuse for rudeness.

    Very friendly and prompt service at lunch time. We like to sit at the bar and have sushi. The chef knows what he's doing and the ingredients have always been fresh. The choice of sushi rolls is very good, and at $7.99 for two (lunch) this is where I go to get my monthly fix.

    If it wasn't for the 8-year old I probably wouldn't eat here. It's nothing about the quality of the food, service or establishment. I'm just not one for tricks and shows when it comes to my food. The food was ok, par for what I expected. The service was good, she was very polite and prompt. The 'chef' was great at interacting with the kids and making decent food.

    The front desk guy was watching the hibachi for three minutes before noticing me, but it was definitely better than last time (~10 minutes!). Not sure why they have this humongous marble divider where the entrance is. They can't see customers unless you peek your head around the corner to get someone's attention. This is one of the only restaurants I would wait a long time for at lunch, but they test my patience sometimes. Sushi was great as always. They need to stop raising the price on the all you can eat though! Lol! Don't get like Redbox, Shogun, and increase the price every couple months. Geesh. Calm your jets on the pricing. The lunch crowd is definitely not how it used to be. Not sure if that's because of raising the prices or what, but I thought it was interesting enough to mention it. As far as the menu is concerned, the have a wide variety of sushi and sashimi. They have specials on entrees, but I never get it. Outside of specials, the menu prices are a bit steep--appetizers included. Lunchtime only for me! The hibachi prices are average. Overall I would recommend this place. I've yet to receive bad service :) The servers are nice and attentive!

    I'm not sure who the manager is but they need a new one. We went there tonight and they spilled an entire tray of beer on my wife. We are very forgiving as long as you own up to what you did. Instead we were rewarded with a bill that came right when we got our food, No offer of dessert. They left broken glass by my wife's feet for 15 minutes. We finally had to ask them to clean it up. They gave me a full bill with no discount, I asked if there was anything there going to do since her entire purse with all of her belongings had a whole tray of beer in it, They took seven dollars off my bill with no apology. Her purse is ruined and she had to go home with beer down her shirt back pants shoes and purse. Thanks for the seven dollars. Get a new manager. All you had to do was apologize And not act like it didn't happen.

    I had read the reviews before I went and they were 50/50. My experience was excellent! We only did sushi, and it was GREAT! Fresh, and one of the best in the area. Our server, "Yuki" was amazing! No complaints from "This Girl."

    I was meeting my wife for lunch on Friday and we were going to shoguns because we have been there several times. She went there and I was running late so she said she would get a table and I would meet here there when I got free. She waited for an hour to get a table and finally left. We have had several good experiences there so this was very disappointing.

    Food is good but not worth the money, we made reservations for 6pm, waited about ten minutes for table, sat down waited another 20 minutes to order waited another 20 minutes for chef. Waiter spilled a tray of beer on my wife, he did apologize but no discount on bill! Two adults and two kids cost me $100 not including tip.

    Don't eat here. They 'took' reservations for New Year's Eve. Well the host told us that it wouldn't be til 11pm. I asked the host why they took reservations if they were allowing groups in that didn't make reservations and also expected big groups to eat in 30 minutes. My gf went to talk to the manager about this issue and he just walked away from her and refused to talk to her and avoided her. I will not ever give sho gun my business again. Frick this place.

    No Thanks, I even went all out getting the Lobster & Fillet, pretty expensive but i like these places and they are usually really good, the fried rice was not good at all, and i like a white sauce which they do not have, they had like 2 types of ginger sauces and ginger sauces i don't even consider, the onion soup wasn't good and again i love places that serve onion soup over me-so, I had my hopes set high and was let down hard! i didn't try a sushi roll like i usually do but I'm kinda glad i got out of there without another possible bad experience. i could make my hands hurt with how bad this place was but I'm just going to save them for some more good reviews as i don't like hating on places too much. i would not recommend this place to friends, family, enemies, even the in-laws!! ha ha, what i love you mother in law!! :) im in trouble:) ......but i would recommend it to the employees and owner, maybe then they would change for the better! if possible. they won't let you sit without your full party either, i was rushing to get there had to pick up my daughter from daycare and they wouldn't let my wife and friends sit down even tho she new my whole order. i was only 3 min late so they didn't wait long, but i wonder if it was busy if they would have gave our seats away!?!

    They sent a brand new waiter to our table on a Saturday night then spilled a full tray of draft beer all over my sister even soaking everything in her expensive purse. They proceeded to charge full price and even left the broken glass all around her chair through half the meal. They delivered the check before we were halfway done without even asking us if we wanted dessert. Worst I've had in ages

    Ordered the grilled chicken and broccoli. Chicken was dry and tasteless. They knocked 15 percent off the bill. My date was satisfied with dinner. I think it's pricey. I won't be going back.

    I went to Shogun with a group of friends one Saturday evening, we had planned on going to dinner and then a bar to play darts or something but we decided on going to Shogun. The food is a bit on the expensive side, however the quality is great, and the food is prepared right in front of you at the habachi grill. Our cook was very entertaining, and provided a good mood for the dinner. We had ordered several bottles of wine, and I probably would have rated this one star higher had the manager not been so rude when asking us to basically leave without finishing our drinks. We had to ask if we were able to take the bottle with us to the bar.

    Deeeelicious!!! my husband loves sushi, & I'm a big fan of Teppanyaki, so we've eaten at a lot of Japanese restaurants throughout the years. My husband says this place is not his favorite in the area (he prefers Sake), but I have never been there, and this place knocked my socks off! The first time we came here, the soup appetizer seemed a little watery and I wasn't a huge fan, but the ginger dressing was so delicious I could've drank a gallon of it (and I almost didn't get it because I don't care for the ginger dressing at Benihana)! I got the steak both times, and although I ordered it medium rare, it came out about medium, and probably could've done with a little bit less of the salty Teriyaki-style sauce. I love salt, however, and sauce, so I didn't mind too much. I came back because I LOVED their fried rice, and really wanted that ginger dressing on my salad again, and boy was I glad I did. The onion soup this time was steaming hot, had just the right amount of "umami" (not overwhelmingly "seafood" tasting like a lot of Miso soups), and was FANTASTIC--one lady at our table ordered two bowls of it!--the salad had all of the gingery goodness that I'd loved the first time. The fried rice was to die for, and the shrimp appetizer and my steak were juicy and flavorful and seared to perfection. My husband and I polished off everything they gave us, even though the portions were huge, and we had even had a sushi appetizer. (Although I have to admit the pickled ginger tasted slightly past it's prime--sushi might be better elsewhere). Despite a few failings, I am still giving this restaurant 5 stars, because it has made 2 of the most satisfying dinners out that I have had since moving here, and everything tastes so fresh and delicious. I would go back here again anytime. I do recommend ordering your steak maybe one degree rarer than you normally would, as both times I ordered Medium rare and I got it at about medium, but I suppose that might depend on your cook as well. It is a little pricey, but so is any hibachi grill meal, and this one includes soup, salad, shrimp appetizer, fried rice, stir fried vegetables, and your steak, chicken, shrimp, lobster, or scallops (whichever main you ordered), so it includes a lot for the price. Now I wish I could afford to eat there for lunch, too!

    Made reservations for dinner for 7:30pm on New Years Eve. When we got there around 7:25 we were told it would be "virtually impossible" to seat us until after 11pm. Apparently they took way too many reservations for the evening and were also taking walk-ins. We would have left, except it was New Year's Eve and every other restaurant in town was packed already. We ended up sitting in the non-hibachi side of the restaurant and ordering off the hibachi grill menu. The food was luke warm and we were sitting in a draft so our food because even more cold very quickly. I have been to Shogun before and had good experiences, but they seriously need to address their reservation system. They need to only have a certain number if reservations and when they are booked then no more should be accepted. The manager also refused to speak to any customers and apologize for the chaos. Will most likely be finding a new hibachi grill after this experience. The only bright spot was out waitress who was very nice and efficient. She is the only reason I'm giving two stars on this review.

    No thank you. From the entry way that did not lend itself to a place to wait comfortably. People were standing around in places where people were trying to dine. We waited to sit down at a table where a group of people sat who were waiting to be seated at another table. The hostess did not ask these people who were not eating to get up. The 2 hostesses who were a little over 15 years old. Were cold, unfriendly and left me doubting they knew what the hell they were doing. We were told one thing by one and another by the other. The food was mediocre and our waitress was probably the best thing the place had to offer. She was quick and competent. The food, you get what you pay for. While inexpensive, the sushi was full of rice and I am not sure my dragon roll had any eel inside.

    I think teppanyaki grill is blasphemous and not worth paying for. But I didn't go here for stereotypical, culture-smashing, soul-crushing chef-food antics. I didn't go here to share a table with snotty teenagers or bermuda short-wearing geriatrics. I came here for sushi. Even on a slow night, our meals were tasty, tastefully prepared, and a definite value. While sushi in a boat seemed like a wonderful deal for two (around $50) we opted for a sushi/sashimi plate and the unagi don (broiled eel). A sushi chef trick (allegorical: told to me by a sushi chef friend) to make the plate look much more plentiful is to slice the sashimi very thinly, thereby covering more surface area and duping the diner into thinking he's eating a lot. However, at Shogun, they give you a nice (expertly cut) thick slice of tuna, or salmon, which both were fresh, and cut in a way that accentuated the richness of both fish. The nigiri was conservative and lacked a dollop of wasabi under each slice of fish. I kind of like that, since it gives me the choice to add wasabi at my discretion. The unagi don, while a smaller portion that I'm used to, was cooked to perfection, had a unique, delicious sauce atop an expertly seasoned bed of rice. Dessert was a tempura-fried cheesecake, which looked okay, but tasted great. In all, I was very satisfied with the meal itself, and the price, which was about $60 including tip. However, I wish the serving staff was a little more upbeat, since they failed to mention that there was an item called the "Hello Kitty" roll. I would order that for the sheer irony and nostalgia that occurs when you combine Hello Kitty and food. I love it when servers up-sell. Ours didn't. The other schmucks, happily wasting their time and money watching some poor guy flopping salty meat and veg on a hot griddle... They're missing out.

    The dining room's Asian fusion menu is to die for. Skip the Chef theater aspect if you want great food. The Unagi Don and rack of lamb are both great dishes.

    I went here recently with family and was impressed. They don't take reservations but do call ahead seating (a concept I don't completely understand) and were able to accommodate our group of 12 on a Saturday evening. The food was solid overall. I had the sea bass which came with soup, fried rice and veggies. I can't remember the type of soup but it vaguely resembled miso, only with mushrooms, and was the only part of the meal that I didn't care for at all. It was oily and flavorless. The sea bass was good and so were the veggies. The rice was a little greasy and overall it was just too much food, but generally good. Service was good. We were seated quickly and our cook was entertaining. Best of all, our waitress was accommodating enough to ask if we wanted everything on one check or separate, and took no issue with our need for four separate checks.

    Have been to this place more than once. The prices are high, but I think they are well worth it. I would recommended going to this type of restaurant with a group of friends, we visited on Saturday with a group of people for a friends birthday and it was a lot of fun. I find this type of atmosphere entertaining and the food both times we visited our food was cooked exactly the way we wanted it. The chef did a really good job and was very entertaining, and of course was freely handing out shots of Sake when asked. I ordered the Filet and Shrimp and my steak was cooked medium, just the way I wanted it, the shrimp were flavorful and cooked just right. We will definitely be going back again.

    We went here for lunch last Friday (2/3/12) because they offer an all-you-can-eat sushi lunch for $10.99. I am pregnant, so I couldn't partake in the sushi and ordered off of the regular lunch menu. We were a big group, 7 adults and 3 kids, and I was the only one not doing sushi (besides the kiddos, who just had steamed veggies.) We all ordered at the same time, but my meal came out a good 10 minutes before anyone else's. Everyone's meal came with either a soup or salad, and we all got those at the same time. But my entree (chicken and broccoli) came out alone. I waited for a little bit, but as their sushi kept NOT coming, I eventually went ahead and ate. My meal was okay, pretty salty for my taste, but it was only $6.99 for the entree and the soup, and it was edible. Everyone else ordered multiple plates of sushi, and the time between plates was really long. Our lunch ended up lasting a good 2 and a half hours. There are a few places like this in the Metro East, and I find anything that would make me choose this one over another. I am willing to give it another chance when I can eat sushi again, because the $10.99 AYCE is a pretty good deal.

    I was at Sho-gun Dec 9, 2011 with seven of my friends. I paid my bill with a credit card and added a 15% gratuity to the total. My friends paid their bills in cash. When I received my credit card statement today, Shogun, had an additional charge on my bill for another 15%. They took the amount I paid and ran through my credit card for an additional $3.15. Be careful, they are crooks. In addition, the food was not that great. One of the managers name is Chad. I think he gave the glowing review dated March 9th. You have so do those things when your restaurant sucks. When I called to complain this Chad was very disrespectful. Steer clear. We will not go here again!

    Shogun is a classy place full of friendly people. I came in and one of the workers offered me FREE miso soup and cookies, FTW! Very sweet people. Sushi chef was also really sweet and awesome. What keeps me from giving it a 5 was my sushi wasn't sooo great. Specifically, the tempura roll was soggy. Never had I had a good soggy tempura roll. OVerall good place :D
