The food? Atrocious. The Atmosphere? Miserable. The staff? Unhappy. But hey, they large groups play aggressive drinking games and trash the back room, which is more than can be said for any other bar in Evanston. And hey, Rene is a pretty friendly guy too who works hard to make sure everyone is having a good time. If you know about this place and are going there for the right reasons (i.e. with a big party) then game on. If you're not, then I'd suggest going to Bat 17 for a better sports bar experience.

they said we can only order nachos or wings, so we got nachos. Service is terrible, and this food is stale (chewy nachos? lol ..) This is crazy. they even messed up my drink, I wanted no ice and I got a coup of ice splashed with vodka. Bad drinks and 711 quality nachos.. I'm about to cry..... this is all bad

So incredibly disappointed in this place. I planned to go for the Mayweather / Pacquiao fight so I called ahead to find out the cover charge and make sure I showed up at the right time. They told me it would be $20 at the door. Upon arriving the guy at the door told me $25 even though I asked him twice about the original $20 price. I paid it and asked all my friends how much they paid only to find that I was the only one charged the extra $5. I then asked one of the bartenders and they also said it was $20, but after pointing out who it was that charged me, she said "well that's the owner, so I guess that's what the price was for you then." This is NOT how you treat customers. The $5 is no big deal, but the arbitrary hustling of patrons is. On top of that, the nachos were soggy and the drinks weren't all that great. The rest of the wait staff was friendly, but they were obviously understaffed.

Pretty big place, with a great location. It was empty but I also went on sunday. Service was good but that's expected since we sat at the bar and we're the only 3 people there. This place had a great location but it lacks an identity, very forget able , nothing special.

Each time I update my review the number of stars goes down. I don't understand why this place can't do better. It's located in the middle of downtown Evanston, surrounded by businesses and (hello!) a college campus full of students. The food isn't bad, although my last few visits have resulted in just okay meals. The service..the service seems to be the problem. The people that work there are very nice, but, they just can't quite seem to get the whole waitress/waiter thing. It's especially confusing because JT's is never crowded. I can't speak for the evening crowd, but, lunchtime? Dead as a town overrun by zombies. If they don't make some serious changes this place will be out of business by the end of the year.

So we went to JTs on a whim after work. I called them to ask what time they were opened til. The gentleman picked up the phone loterally saying just hello. It threw me off guard a little so I asked what time they were open to and they said 5. I was first to arrive and ordered a tap beer. Nasty NASTY beer lines. I am very well aware of what revolution brewerys Rosa tastes like and this wasnt even a shadow of what it tasted like. It was warm and tasted like five different beers together. So when the rest of the crew arrived I immediately warned them not to order drafts. The bartender, a belizian woman asked them what they wanted. After delivering the drinks, then asked if we wanted to settle up our tabs. Umm no why? It's 1:40 am. She then tells us they are closing at two, but literally whispers that to us. I stopped a manager I think to ask if we would even be able to finish our drinks and he says that they are open until 3.. it didn't take long to figure out what was going on. The bartender had met a customer at the bar and intended on leaving with him. WE were the only thing stopping her so she was lying to us about last call. Upon hearing this conversation I had with the manager, she began ignoring us. On a side note everything done there is done in a very cheap way. Watered down, store bought soap, no cue ball at the pool table, etc. Their main attraction is a folding table in which beer pong can be played from. So we enjoyed each other's company for a while and the second 230 hit, the bartender started handing us our bills. My friend asked for two more beers in which he was told no. Out of no where, the intoxicated manager comes up and in a very snarky way goes, these are on me, to my two friends. He was walking away shaking his head as though mocking them. Ohhh I'm sorry buddy for trying to give your business money. Never again. This place is lkiterally straight off of Bar Rescue before the rescue. Awful service awful drafts . Stop cutting corners financially and make this place a decent bar.

Came here to watch the big Mayweather/Pacquiao fight. Didn't eat dinner ahead of time. Called ahead to make sure there was a place to sit and eat and watch. Was told unequivocally that there was a place to do just that. Showed up approximately 15 minutes later, was informed there were no seats after paying a $20 cover charge. Am hungry and angry. Will watch the fight here but will not be spending any additional money, since I was already cheated out of $20. Will never be coming back here for obvious reasons.

When we first walked in, it was clear that JT's was understaffed, which was odd considering that it was both a home football game and Parent's Weekend. When we received our food, one of our orders didn't come. We also received the wrong kind of fries, wrong patties on the burgers, and wrong toppings. The burgers and fries were undercooked and cold. After complaining, the management offered a twenty percent discount. When we asked to speak to the manager, we were offered a thirty percent discount to not speak to the manager. We were given a fake number for the manager, who refused to comp our entire meal (which any other restaurant would have done). The manager, who was very rude, insisted we pay 50% of the bill because we ate some of the food, which later gave us food poisoning.

Still a decent joint, but not 5 - star worthy (I think I was a bit star-struck with the free minestrone on my first visit). I always get the lean and tasty egg white + veggie omelette when I come here because it's a filling and healthy meal. However, I don't like the vegetables they put in, and the price you pay for health is pretty much non-existent flavor (use lots of hot sauce and ketchup). Plus the $10.99 is a bit steep. Food can come out a bit slowly as well.

So I made it out to J.T.'s at around 1:30am and had a pear martini, which was just okay. The first sips tasted a lot like a pear jelly bean, but I honestly didn't enjoy it much after those sips. Our bartender, Jay, however, was incredibly engaging and very friendly, and my friend and I ended up having some really interesting conversations with a few of the other patrons. Overall, a good experience, but I might just stick with beer next time.

I went with two other friends for brunch on a Sunday. This was my first brunch experience at JT's Bar and Grill and I honestly had no idea what to expect. I hadn't realized that there had been so many complaints about JT's service until much later, when I checked it's Yelp page. Fortunately, my friends and I received excellent service. We were given water within 5 minutes of being seated, and our waiter checked in with us frequently throughout our meal. Granted, there were maybe 10 customers in the entire venue, so the place was pretty empty. We ordered the Spinach and Cheddar Skillet, the Strawberry Shortcake French Toast, and some Sweet Potato fries to split. The waiter was extremely helpful and offered to get us some extra plates to make the splitting easier even before we asked. The food was on par with what we expected, and I'd definitely visit again for another round of satisfying brunch.

My friends and I were on a hunt for a game of pool. As we crossed JT's, we saw in the window not only a pool table, but also a somewhat shabby looking game of foos. Much like a red light district prostitute, they called to us through the glass. We could only say yes. There was nothing but disappoint in store. The pool table was broke, and the foosball table might as well have been. Do not come here for your table-gaming needs. Aside from that, what sense does it really make to visit this place?

Came here when almost everything in Evanston is closed (10:30pm hah!) looking for a burger. We wanted the farmhouse burger, but ended up coming here since the food would be a bit cheaper. My overall verdict is that it's definitely better than Clarke's, the only other late night diner option in town. I mean, JT's already won just by the restaurant not smelling like moldy bleach. I was eyeing the turkey burger and steak fries. Well, JT's has got a lot of learning to do when it comes to a nice, flavorful, juicy turkey burger. The addition of bell peppers in the patty was interesting and helped keep it more moist though it was still on the dry side. But overall the toppings were fresh, which made the burger nice and light, but the burger wasn't seasoned enough to withstand all the toppings. It was okay, but so underwhelming compared to my favorite turkey burger at Poochie's. Bf thought his patty was extremely bland, and the egg wasn't runny, so basically it added nothing to the burger. He wouldn't come back based on that burger, but mine was alright. Service leaves a LOT to be desired. I didn't expect greatness, but I also don't like to be snapped at with "WHAT?!" because you couldn't hear my order. Overall, I was not impressed. We concluded that we weren't so repulsed and would be willing to come here in a pinch for late night food (over Clarke's, BK, McD's, Cheesie's). But I'd probably walk 10 more steps to Naf Naf any other time of day.

This place has a pleasant outside eating area. Inside the atmosphere is more sportsbar-ish. The menu is weighted towards burgers, and there didn't seem to be any salads. The veggie burger I had on a pretzel bun was delicious. The Greek fries were soggy. So, one for two. Although it's called a bar and grill, half the menu is breakfast, so I'd return to try that. Service was friendly.

One of the worst experiences I've ever had. The service was atrocious for myself and everyone seated around me as we all waited and waited for: a simple glass of water (1 hour for the gent to my left), silverware (10 minutes after receiving my then-cold food), the food itself (40 minutes for me, 45 for the gent to my left and another 5 minutes for his companion), a drink order (15 minutes for the guy standing to my right's bloody mary, another 5 minutes to tell him they were out of orange juice). Note that it wasn't especially crowded, maybe 30 covers for 6 staff during the two hours I was there, but there was never anyone nearby to ask what was causing the delays in service. It was clear that somehow they were overwhelmed, but no explanation or apologies were given for the numerous mistakes and delays I witnessed and experienced ("the manager's not here right now"). Maybe it was everyone's first day? Again, they didn't seem to be short-staffed and the staff themselves were fine, very nice when you caught them, and it looked like they were working hard--we all felt for them. But the section I was in seemed largely ignored and sporadically serviced by four or five different servers. Note that this was all right up front near the entrance and the host's station too--not in a dimly lit back corner. But the most frustrating part was that the staff, however willing to help, was often nowhere to be found and incapable of providing a basic level of service. There is clearly something very wrong with the staffing organization here and I would not recommend trying this place out during any time you may expect to find the bar occupied by more than a handful people, or else be prepared to witness mass chaos. Otherwise the food was fine and there's booze. Can't complain there.

Food is so bad! Haven't had such bad food for a long time... My salad was not dressed at all; we received four sad strips of chicken tender for $6.99... seriously? And our sweet potato fries were raw... My recommendation is... DONT GO!!

What happened to this place? Are there new owners?? The food quality has gone way down, the atmosphere doesn't seem the same and the staff does speak English! What is that? There used to be handsome college looking men!! And they were nice. I was lucky this time to even get a napkin. I ordered breakfast, an omelette, had spinach in it and I think the spinach was frozen, it didn't seem very fresh. I also asked for bacon and got bacon bits! Had to double check to see if I even had it. And the hash browns were mushy. My server/host didn't seem to understand my English, had to clean his mouth off when I came in since him and his cooks where eating their breakfast right in front , nor did he even ask me once I got my food if I needed anything. Poor service overall. Also not a good idea to speak in Spanish and then stare at your customers, were they talking bad about me or someone else?? It was very uncomfortable. Being in a college town it would be nice to have good food and inviting staff. Being in the service industry myself, first impressions go along way, this one ended quickly for me. Will not be back nor will I tell anyone else to go there. Sorry.

Slow service, and three different people came to our table. I ended up handing them my credit card because I didn't want to wait. They were too busy socializing to notice. The Mac and cheese with bacon was very subpar, and for $12 was a ripoff. When ordering, the menu said it includes salad, but then the server said it didn't. She gave it to me, but seemed weird. There's also 3 different French fries listed that are all the same, in addition to the feta ones. My father got the burger on a pretzel bun, and said it was excellent. But other than that, there was nothing appealing about this place. I won't be back.

A pretty good patio if you want to sit outside and have a drink or some bar food. This place is located across from the Hilton so I noticed it while out for a run. I brought my computer and got a couple hours of work done this evening while eating a late dinner. The food was exactly as you'd expect, nothing surprising. There were a few college kids hanging around as well, probably from Northwestern. It's a hangout place. Come here if that's what you want.

I can get down on some breakfast here. Liked: My omelet with mozzarella and tomatoes. It was nice and well done. Angie Approved. Liked: The option to get pancakes instead of toast. Cause sometimes you just need to eat that fat. OK: Service was sweet, but disorganized. I felt like I was running our poor server when asking for simple things like syrup and coffee creamer. Disliked: It's SUPER quiet here on a weekend morning. I'm talking hardly a soul in the place and no background noise or music. It's a little disconcerting. So yeah. I'm cool with you, JT.

Food was good but I need to call them or send up a flare for service. 2 guys on the other side of the bar working here and they are ignoring us. We are the only 2 people here on a Friday night at 8:00

The service was god awful, I've never had such a terrible experience in an Evanston restaurant. This is the first yelp review I've ever written, and it is solely for how disastrous this place is. I will say the food is okay... Not great, but okay. Let me document below what went wrong. -Didn't get water until 20 minutes later, even after asking for it multiple times. -Couldn't order until 40 minutes later -Didn't get food until 1.5 hours later -Didn't get the right food the first time -Our strawberry shortcake French toast didn't come with what was advertised -Didn't get the right sides, proceeded to ask them for the right ones and didn't get them until we were done eating -Didn't get syrup for the pancakes until we got the check I will definitely never come here again, our entire group was aghast with this experience.

As we stopped by for dinner with the kids, the kids enjoyed the kids menu. We were a little disappointed that they gave us a coloring page but crayons were nowhere to be found so they had to color using blue and black ink pens. Also, drinks are $1 extra and not included with the meal. My son did love the fact that he got to use the cool orange juice machine and get refills on his fresh orange juice though. Bonus points for that. The kids also thought that the pinball machine was super cool to play with while waiting for their food. Overall, a decent experience as we continue to search for our next family friendly favorite restaurant.

Ordered a turkey burger and the bartender asked how we wanted it cooked. Said medium rare and he didn't bat an eye lol. Long story short, I can barely move today and think I have salmonella.

I came here for brunch. I had high expectations (had not read the yelp reviews), but the reviews are spot on. The place has a lot of potential, but there are better options. I had a coffee and it was just terrible, tasted like watered down Folgers. The omelet was OK, but dry and bland. I did get attentive service, but the place was mostly empty. They did appear to have some good beer specials going. Might be a better place to go late night for drinks.

The thing about JTs is that it has everything it needs to be a great establishment, but it just isn't. The number one issue is the service here is absolutely awful. Have had servers leave the bill on the table and then never return to pick it up more than a few times, Would have been completely plausible for me to have just up and left without anyone noticing. Went here one night for a friend's birthday. I asked the server to bring a slice of pie for my friend whose birthday it was and she came back with a slice of pie for everyone at the table and then disappeared before I could say anything. Really bad service. Pie wasn't very good at all either. The food is ok to pretty good. I recommend the breakfast skillets--you get a lot of bang for your buck. Ultimately though, if you're in a hurry and need a quick bite, JTs is not the place to go.

Pretty standard sports bar/diner. You gotta go in there knowing what you're getting. Nothing is particularly stand-out, but it's comforting and better than clarke's. Also they're open til 3.

Sorry... I tried. We stopped going for a while because of falling food quality, and I decided to give it another shot last Sunday. This time, *both* food and service quality were atrocious. We waited about 10 mins to order (which is often the case), and about 40 minutes for food to arrive. We watched three parties who came after us, get orders filled first. Mind you, the place was only quarter-full (which should have told me something, esp. on the graduation weekend - but it was raining so I caved). After 30 mins, we saw the man who took our order *finally* go check on it - and it took another 10 mins to arrive from that point. But the kicker is - it was totally overcooked! Dry turkey burger, overdone grey omelet. Dry and awful pretzel bun. We still ate it, and while it wasn't good, it was edible and we didn't get sick (so one star for that!) The food clearly sat there and was reheated - after the server (host? The man who took the order) likely forgot to get it in time. He didn't even apologize for the 45 min wait - and did I mention the food was horrible? Instead the super-nice female bartender said she was sorry, who had nothing to do with order other than bringing it to us. The man (larger guy, shaved head) then proceeded to ignore us, as I tried to ask for coffee (it's COFFEE, man... I am not asking for your kidney here. Good lawd). On a third request, finally got some - with a scowl. Same attitude when asking for the check (felt like asking for a huge favor). We left. Irked. We were never treated so poorly by the service (not should we be, being genuinely nice, well tipping folks). I will never come back. In fact, I am waiting for JTs to go out of business - and I doubt it will be long, so something better can take its place. Advice to owner/manager: I don't think restaurant service is your calling... JTs is one of the most chaotic, poorly managed eateries I've been to. You have to do better with employee selection, training and engagement. If you haven't noticed, there are numerous dining options within same 2 block radius and consistent customer value is critical to remaining competitive in Evanston. If being profitable and keeping JTs afloat isn't your goal... my apology, please disregard and carry on in the current fashion.

My boyfriend and I came here on one of the Arctic Vortex days, so we ended up being the only customers, hah. The staff was friendly. It was clean. The portions were huge! I had the gyro burger and it's really good! I like new combos and this hit it! The Greek fries are good, but perhaps just a wee bit too much olive oil on them. My boyfriend got the Chicken Grilled Cheese Italiano... also huge! He enjoyed it a lot. Perhaps it's different here on busy nights... but I like it today.

After hours Friday night, outside seating off limits, noise level inside explosive. Not so much a place to grab a later dinner. But we were starving! Menu is standard fare. Burgers were VERY middle of the road, burger on one half of the plate, french fry filler other half of the plate. Prices seemed reasonable, crowd swelled, wait service was pleasant despite. Eat fast and escape into the solace of the beautiful summer night leaving the roar of the crowd behind. One note on this particular evening, VERY impressed with all the ladies in their summer dresses and the gentlemen in their biz casual attire. Perhaps at a normal time and place, eating would be tolerable here, but late night is no time for the hungry ;-)

Plenty of televisions About 20 person semi private side room with its own bar Lack of soda carbonation for top shelf drinks & expensive. Warm bottle beer Good friendly service by the waitress Good burgers and pulled pork sandwiches Great greek fries definitely get these Generally good fries Large tap selection Nice place for 10 - 20 group I would go back, if in the area. I would give 3 1/2 stars if I could.

Although we didn't experience the horrible service like some Yelpers, we did experience probably theee worst food in Evanston. Drinks were weak--hardly any tequila in the Margaritas so go for beer or soft drinks instead. I had really bad and tasteless tacos (granted, this isn't a Mexican restaurant, but it's got a mish mosh of Mexican food, Greek food and other standard American fare. The buffalo chicken wrap was so greasy it was inedible! This place is an absolute DNR! (Do Not Return)

Finding a decent turkey burger seems to be like finding the holy grail; nearly impossible. Luckily, J.T's Bar and Grill has made my search easier. I already have a go-to turkey burger place in Evanston. It now has some stiff competition. Prior to ordering, I asked our lovely server if the turkey burger was gamey. If you are familiar with turkey burgers, they can sometimes taste, well, off, making them inedible. She assured me it was not gamey tasting and that it was quite good. I took her word for it and ordered the elusive, edible turkey burger. To my wonderful surprise, it was very good. The patty itself was flavored with green and red peppers. It was topped with cheddar cheese and avocado, along with some onions, on a wheat bun. My mouth and tummy were quite happy with it. I would definitely return for the turkey burger.

I enjoyed my first visit here, but a series of strange occurrences have really put me off of it. First of all, I was pleasantly surprised to see that the prices were well under $10 when the restaurant opened. Now you can't get anything that's not $9.99, so it's in another class of eatery that it can't compete in. The tagline of this restaurant is ironically accurate -- "Just Great Food". The service is ridiculous. We've had insanely attentive servers, servers who have ignored us even though the place was empty, servers that didn't have basic courtesy to think to bring syrup with breakfast plates, appetizer orders that came out at the exact same time as the rest of the meal, you name it. We like the food a lot but every time we visit the service makes us question why we didn't stick to our agreement not to come back.

A new all day breakfast joint in Evanston. Just what those late night NW students need. Evanston is finally getting some restaurants that make sense downtown: JT's, Cheesie's and Found. I remember visiting the former restaurant that used to be in this space before the economy went into the crapper. It's a good space near the Orrington Hotel. I like that they have added flat screen tv's. Although I don't feel like this is a warm and cozy sports bar. I'd prefer to hit up Bat 17 for some sports, beer and better food. I went in late AM on a Sunday. I ordered an iced tea and was informed they were out. How are you out of iced tea?? Poor planning or management. Opted to order the Mexican omelette. Very good value. Massive omelette, home fries and a side of pancakes! Ridiculous. So much food for nine bucks it's sure to make those NW students tack on the Freshman 15 in no time! I also checked out the menu and they have tons of pub food: burgers, pizzas, sammiches, Mexican stuff and did I mention Breakfast?? Good spot for some breakfast, especially if you have a hankering for some after midnight.

DO NOT EVER EAT HERE. I went here for dinner with some friends and had the single worst restaurant experience of my life. First off, no one had any idea what was going on, as waiters would often offer us food that wasn't ours and then move on when they realized their mistake. Most horrible was our server. Not only did he curse at us whenever he got the opportunity, but he couldn't tell us a single thing about any of the beers on the menu. When a friend of mine said her drink didn't taste like it had alcohol, he shamed her in front of the restaurant by making fun of her to the bartender so everyone could hear! He then turned to me and said (mockingly and so that she could hear), "I guess that's what she gets for ordering a fruity drink, huh?" Last, my friend asked for a fried egg on his BLT and was brought a BLT with a fried egg but no bacon... This place is laughably awful and I hope to see them shut down soon.

JTs is a strange place. Part diner, part (half ass) sports bar, part frat basement. The staff is really friendly and they stand out among downtown Evanston bars in that they actually want to make money. They do their best to cater to students and attract their business. The wings are ok, but I wouldn't pick this place for dinner. Stick to the drinks (pretty attractive weekday specials).

A few growing pains, but what can you expect when a restaurant has only been open for 3 weeks. We stumbled upon J.T.'s last night after the place we were going to go was too crowded. And so glad we ended up here! The food was delicious. I had a burger with sweet potato fries and the boyfriend had an omelet. The biggest issue was the slow service. I understand that it was an issue in the back with the chefs, but we also seemed to have 5 different servers throughout the night and they all seemed a bit confused. It would have been nice if someone had simply told us that the kitchen was running slow. But this is something that I'm sure will be fine once they've been around a little longer. I will definitely be coming back to check out more items on the menu. Breakfast foods all looked really good and wow there were some indulgent burgers. And totally decent prices so that you don't break the bank. That's always a plus in my book! And the owner gave us free cake when we were leaving, so that was pretty awesome.

Recently I had a breakfast so repulsive I had to throw it away. It was a to go order, otherwise I would have, for the first time in my life, sent it back to the kitchen. And asked for a refund. And mouthwash so I could wash the taste of it out of my mouth. I won't go into too much detail but everything tasted kind of soapy and mushy at the same time. There was a decidedly off taste to the meat as well which not only repulsed me but made me nervous for my stomach. Breakfast is kinda hard to eff up so badly. I don't know if your ingredients were bad, or your cook comes from a land that doesn't eat eggs, potatoes, or bacon, but if my reaction to your food is wanting to force myself to disgorge it, you have a problem. Additionally I was charged .74 cents more for my entree item than the price listed on the menu. This is not the first time this has happened, although last time we were charged less than the listed menu price. Honestly I don't much care if you charge me such a small amount more or less but I do mind that your menu and what you actually charge doesn't match. It's slightly underhand and makes me distrust the establishment, because you either haven't noticed yet (which is worrisome) or you have noticed it and decided that it wasn't worth the cost of reprinting your menus or trouble of changing your prices in whatever system you use to ring up charges. I'm pissed I wasted money on something so disgusting. I am never going back here and recommend no one else makes the same mistake I did. UPDATE a few hours later... I just found an unidentifiable chunk of something in my coffee. Can I give negative stars?

Horrible experience! Waitress put in order 20min after she took our order, then got ill and left work. After another 20 min went by, no service, empty drinks, and no food, we had to find another waiter to tend to our table; who ignored our concerns of having waited so long and then brought out an incorrect order. Thought about walking out, but had a few hungry children with us. We asked to see the manager and was told there was no manager on the premises. To top it off, the place was empty. Unfortunately we got stuck paying gratuity because we had a party of 8 people. If you are looking for an unresponsive wait staff, incorrect order fulfillment, and a restaurant with more gnats than staff and patrons, then JTs Bar and Grill in Evanston is your place! Seriously, this experience absolutely sucked! (Occurred July 5th, 2014; approx. 10:40am) Tony Wilson

Really surprised this place doesn't have 5 stars. Service was excellent. Was here on a Sunday afternoon and our waitress Katye was AWESOME. Food was also really good. Might become my new breakfast joint.

I tried the mushroom swiss burger and Greek fries; the burger was huge, so it was a pretty good deal, but I may have preferred a smaller burger and cheaper price option. The burger was fairly good quality, the mushrooms tasted fresh which was more than I was expecting for a bar/grill, and the Greek fries were really good-- a little strong on the lemon, but I liked it. It's not the best burger in Evanston, but the big booths, low key crowd and large TVs everywhere make it a nice place to grab a bite to eat and watch a game without worrying about long lines or lack of seating. Also, they offer breakfast all day which is good for an Evanston restaurant because most of the other breakfast places close early or stop serving breakfast past a certain time. Overall, I was happy; won't be frequenting often, but I will keep it in mind if I have a taste for a low-hassle burger.

I've now been to JT's twice and don't have anything good to say about it. After the first dining experience I went back hoping it would redeem itself, but no. This latest time my husband and I went here for lunch. It took a while for anyone to notice us at the front door to even get seated, yet the restaurant was not busy-that should have been our first warning sign. We ordered our drinks and then our meals just a few minutes later. After waiting over 25 minutes without anyone checking on us we finally flagged down a server to ask about our drinks, since they still hadn't arrived. A few minutes later our food came out with our drinks right behind. No apology on the wait, no explanation. (Did I mention the restaurant was not busy?) Finally everything was at our table and we could eat. Except the food was not good. My husband's burger was ok, but nothing out of the ordinary. My pulled pork sandwich seemed to come from frozen meat and was very fatty. The fries were soggy and limp. Our server came to check on us once while we ate, by which time we just wanted to get out of there. Overall a disappointing experience. We will not be spending our money here again.

I was hesistant as I walked to the bar of the sports bar but the service was excellent. I came with a group of about 15 people and the food came out very fast. The food was above sports bar par especially the breakfast. We were very impressed. We were able to section ourselves off from the entire restaurant with french doors so we were not interrupted during our business discussion. The service was fantastic, we might as well have been at a banquet hall. The busboy and our blue-haired waitress were extremely attentive. We will definitely be reserving space at JT's in the future.

Decent food, but it was nothing special. I ordered a pretzel bun and my friend ordered the whole wheat, but they switched up the orders, and I got the whole wheat instead. Otherwise service was good and the food was average.

Absolute disgrace of an experience. I ordered delivery from here and I would have been better off making a grilled cheese. It took over an hour and a half and when it finally came my burger and fries were ice cold. When I called they had an attitude like it was my fault from ordering there. This happened on Sunday, it is now Wednesday and I still have not been able to reach any sort of manager there. Absolutely pathetic establishment. DO NOT GO OR ORDER FROM HERE!

J.T.'s is definitely cleaner than Clarke's. I can't say that the food's any healthier, but the ingredients seem relatively "fresher" than the ones used by Clarke's. However, my friend's pancakes did look tastier and fluffier than Clarke's, which is a plus. My tilapia tacos were surprisingly decent but too salty. What sets J.T.'s apart from Clarke's is that the service here is much better. The staff is friendly and accommodates to your needs without complaints.

The last two times I went to J.T.'s the service was horrible. I keep going back because I like their burgers. I decided to go again for dinner on 6/27/14. Right off we had two women serving our table, and I am convinced they never communicated. BTW, two wait staff did not mean faster service, it was sloooow. I am convinced that these women did not communicate or know each other. Eventually after waiting half an hour for them to bring me a glass of wine, I got up and went to the bar to order my glass of wine. Once the staff saw me bellied up to the bar they then asked me what I wanted to drink and I said I wanted a glass of wine, the wine that I thought you were bringing. There was no apology or approach to fix the situation. In fact they looked at me as thought I was out of line for getting up and walking to the bar. The service here gets worse each time I come. I don't know what happened to this bar, when they first opened they had wonderful service, including music. Customer A Let's wind the clocks back a year. J.T. was good at one time. I mean, what happened? Did they lose their flair? Customer B Freaky, I don't know what happened to them. I just come here for the free cable T.V. Customer A A gal like me likes a good burger. ... Look. Listen. That's why I keep going into the place. I don't know why I keep choosing to enter here, I feel like I need "group therapy ". If I weren't so damn hungry I would have driven over to Five Guys, instead of letting this place suck me in.

My experience was great here, which is why I thought their rating should be higher than it is now. Rene is nice and a hard worker. Drinks are good (but expensive like every other place) food is good. I had buffalo wings and spanakopita both excellent

This place is very confused. They have no idea what kind of place they are. Please note I am writing in regards to their dinner and I'm wishing by everyone else's reviews that I had skipped that and went in for breakfast instead. The atmosphere is actually kind of nice. Cool bar, I could definitely watch a game there. Nice server/bartender too, but also seemed kind of out of it. Confused... lets just say I can get a great glass of wine in a pretty glass but the cup they gave for water is one you would find at Denny's. They really could upgrade a bit to a small glass. Also, they kept the weird area to the left where you walk in as a dessert case. It looks completely out of place and if they are a "Bar and Grill" there is no need for that. They really should have changed that up. So the atmosphere doesn't match the menu at all. None of the appetizers stood out to us so we ordered a side of sweet potato fries to start out with. Welp... they came last. They were ridiculously over cooked and had no flavor of sweet potato left. We had to ask for a side of honey mustard... which was an even worse idea because it was nasty. We both got salads. Mine was really blah, I didn't even eat more then a few bites. My friend had a chicken caesar that I think she was fine with but its hard to mess that up. Their prices on the menu were also different than what we were charged. Luckily it was less but I really think as a new place they should make sure the menu and the register are ringing up the same. So, from what we had I definitely wouldn't eat there again for dinner. I'm open to trying breakfast. Sorry, J.T's - you let me down. Maybe stick to breakfast.

I would say the food isn't bad, but the service is always so slow, the dessert isn't very good, and the ambiance is just way more of a loud sports bar than what I'm looking for in a diner-style food place. Later at night it gets really loud when school is in session. I've been told that the alcohol is all watered down, though I haven't bothered to order a drink there before. In general the food is okay, but it just takes so long. Often the waiters will be somewhat attentive when you first get there, but even when its not that busy they end up forgetting about you toward the end of you dinner. I think I generally have to wait 10 to 20 minutes past when I'm ready to go just to ask for the check because my waiter has disappeared. Its fine for a late night when you don't have many options in Evanston, but I'd generally choose Clarkes over this, even though Clarkes' service can be pretty bad at times too.

  • Victor L.

Burger was dry and over salted. Beer was overpriced. Bartender couldn't remember your order. Loud obnoxious music blasting from the back room (don't know what was going on back there). And the place in general smelled like bathroom. No plans to return... ever.

  • Kyle B.

I went here with my husband a couple of weeks ago. The service was awful. Our server seemed very rushed even though the place was not busy at all. Our server never asked if we wanted anything to drink. We finally got something to drink after our food was delivered and the server appeared again. The breakfast food was horrible. The eggs were either powdered or a substitute because they did not taste like a scrambled egg should. The pancakes were chewy. They have homefries, not hashbrowns, and those were the only edible thing on my plate. The TV's were also excessively loud. Overall it was a horrible experience and I won't waste my money there again.

We ordered 3 Bloody Marys. The waitress spilled some in one glass, noticed the glass was covered in juice, but still served the leaky glass without providing napkins. I had to ask her to bring them. Next, the drinks were virgin. And sweet. Tasted nothing like bloody marys. We ordered new ones, reminding the staff to please include alcohol. Second time was better, but the drinks still needed lots of salt, pepper, and hot sauce to taste something like a bloody mary. Needless to say, that was the worst bloody mary I ever had. Then we tried to order appetizers but they were out of half the things on the menu. We just asked for the check and left. Seems this place is totally incompetent to handle customers. Awful. Worst bar in Evanston.

  • Anne M.

This place was beyond horrible and I was challenged by the "manager" for how much of a tip I left. Please go someplace else. This place needs to go out of business as they have no idea how to serve and what customer service is. This place really deserves 0 stars.

I only go here for lunch. It isn't to far from my job and the staff is always very courteous. I love their spinach quesadillas. Very tasty and the portions are generous. Their turkey burger is also very delectable. I usually order it with a side of sweet potato fries. The only thing that I feel that they need to improve on is bringing their customers their check in a timely manner. I usually have to track someone down and as a result, I have returned late twice. It is a relatively new place so I expect that things will fall into place soon. Definitely worth checking out.

If I could give this place a 0, I would. We were sat by a red headed waitress who proceeded to serve everyone around us even people who arrived after us. People that arrived after is had their order taken and received their food before the waitresses that were serving individuals outside came and asked if we wanted something besides water and took our food order. The red head never ventured outside but continued to seat and serve everyone around us. After almost 40 minutes we left as the red head stood behind the bar texting on her phone. During the time we sat waiting for our food, the red head had taken the order and served every party that arrived after us and was seated inside. Also during the entire time we sat no more than 5 parties we seating inside (less than 10 people).

My husband and I were looking for a place to eat and stopped at JT's because it had a patio and we aren't familiar with the area. The food was nothing to brag about, just mediocre. The service was absolutely horrible. It took forever for someone to come wait on us, as if they had a packed house, which wasn't the case. It took about 30 minutes for us to get a glass of water! I would only come here again if I was starving and no where else was open.

  • Brian R.

I've had good food here before, but the service is generally bad. Overall my experiences have ranged from just OK to horrible, so I figure two stars is about right. This past time, my girlfriend and I were seated outside on the patio. She was there before me and had to go inside to order a glass of wine. After I got there, she had to go inside again to get them to come take our order. I ordered the tilapia entree with salad and she ordered the turkey burger. I ordered French dressing with the salad, and the waitress took our order and went away. Shortly after, a different waitress came back saying they didn't have French dressing, so I ordered Thousand Island. A long time after, the server finally brought me a salad with Ranch dressing (they were out of Thousand Island and had just picked Ranch for me) and a tilapia sandwich. There was no sign of the turkey burger. I explained that I had ordered the entree. Sometime later they brought back the entree and salad. By that time the fish was cold, so apparently they had just taken it off the bun and cooked up some vegetables to go around it. Still no sign of the turkey burger. Finally that came, and then we didn't see anyone again until they came to ask if we wanted the check. I think the experience you get will depend largely on which staff is there. We went on a Friday evening, which you would think would be their star staff, but that wasn't the case. If you really want to try it out, you can roll the dice and take your chances, but you're probably better off just going somewhere else.

Definitely a college bar! I wouldn't recommend it for a romantic date or anything, but it's great for late night food. There is a decent bar and several TVs, plus a game area in the back. I had the buttermilk pancakes with freshly squeezed OJ. Pretty solid!

    (4)
  • Park R.

They have pancakes with real maple syrup, they make fresh squeezed OJ, and they're open late. Just what the neighborhood needs! Service was excellent, and the place is gorgeous and clean. As per previous review; I, too, would prefer fewer TVs being on. Especially since the jukebox is interesting. If the sandwiches are as good as the breakfast was, this place has potential to be a classic deli/diner. I hope they eventually fill out the bakery/deli area in front, it's a very cute space.

Went for breakfast and had a superb vegetable omelette. If I kept a list of greatest omelettes, this would be in that group. Also delicious potatoes and side of pancakes. Large portions. Coffee pretty good too. Roomy and very comfortable, and very good service. We went at 8 am, and glad that the sound was off on the TV. So if you peek in the window looking for a relaxing place for breakfast, don't be put off by the TV.

The shocking way I was treated last night at JT's Bar & Grill prompted this: my first Yelp Review. Zero stars would have been a more accurate rating. This was my third time at JT's. The first time I went there was for lunch about two months ago with my fiance. The breakfast food (eggs and a skillet) that we ordered didn't taste fresh at all, but actually tasted more like it had been siting out all day and then was reheated and brought to us. The bar itself is cozy and the service was all right, but we decided not to go back for the food. The second time we went there was for drinks a few weeks ago. We sat on the patio, which is the best part about JT's due to the flowers and wood design. Our drinks were fine, so I didn't have any problem with that visit or with the young girl who served us. Last night, my fiance and my friend walked to JT's after the Blackhawks game. The bar wasn't very crowded and only a couple tables on the patio had customers sitting at them. We chose a table on the patio and waited about ten minutes before being approached by a server. The male server was somewhat older and I think he could have also been a manager. I don't have his name because he didn't tell us what it was or even greet us when he arrived at our table. His first words were, "What do you want to order?" I asked if we could have a menu. With a unfriendly and seemingly irritated tone, he told me that they didn't have any menus and pointed to his head and said, "The menu is in here." We asked if they had any specials and he said, "No, we don't have any specials." (All of this was odd because the last time we sat on the patio we were offered a drink menu with specials on it right away.) He then started naming drinks, "Appletini, mimosas, vodka drinks....what do you want?" I was in such disbelief that I could barely speak but managed to look at my friend and quietly ask if we should just leave. My fiance was also obviously uncomfortable with the situation, but asked, "What kind of beer do you have?" The server said, "We have all kind of beers. What kind do you want?" At that time, a group of five on the sidewalk passed our table and walked to the entrance of JT's. Our server left our table without saying anything and we saw him walk to the hostess station and start pulling out menus for this new group. My fiance, friend, and I then agreed to finally get up and leave. The whole experience was appalling and, even if someone is having a bad day, there is no excuse for it. I was made to feel that I wasn't welcome there, so this server accomplished what he set out to do. I will never go back to JT's Bar & Grill.

J.T.'s is very similar to Clark's, but I enjoy it much more as a late night option. Inevitably, the service at Clark's is incredibly slow in the evening, and always leaves me wishing I had never bothered. J.T.'s has quick service and a large variety of options on their menu. I'd prefer the music not be so pop/top-40 all the time, some non-overplayed music every once in a while would go a long way. They could do a little better to distinguish themselves, there's not much I can point to and say "That's a J.T. thing". Also the turkey burger sucks, but that's not really a huge deal.

I spent $14 on a chicken salad that was subpar. The chicken was completely bland, and even while the salad included (stale) tortilla strips, corn, and black beans, the only flavor that I could really taste was the barbeque sauce. The only reason I put two stars was because the service was good. I hate to complain, but this is unacceptable for the price that is charged.

I have recently discovered the JT's Skirt Steak salad and it is the best salad I have had in all of Evanston. Just thought you all should know. +1 star. Thank you.

Let me start off with the positives: really, really nice bar/furniture. Probably could be more a bar-restaurant than a restaurant. Plenty of metered parking on the street or the self-park garages are nearby. It is very clean. Good place to go before heading off to an NU game. Bar staff is very knowledgeable and friendly. Now the less than positive: food is really average. Nothing interesting or mouth watering. Waitstaff service a little slower than it probably should be. Overall, not the worst, but nothing to brag about either.

  • Adi S.

I've been to JT's quite a few times, and enjoy it overall. The prices are reasonable, and I am a big fan of the huge portion sizes. Some of the meals can be on the salty side, but this is expected from time to time at a casual diner and when ordering comfort food. I would recommend the burgers, nachos, or omelets.

    (3)
  • Blake C.

I had a Bacon cheeseburger which was alright and the fries were pretty good. I would suggest Edzos instead since it is right down the street with better burgers, fries, and milkshakes.

I hate to write this review because we usually like going to JT's for late night meals. THIS REVIEW IS FOR TERRIBLE SERVICE Unfortunately the service has been terrible the past few times. We've had the same server in the past and he was great. But lately he has lacked all good qualities of a server. He was on edge and incredibly impatient! He'd come to the table to ask us if we were ready to order and before we had anything to say he'd just leave. We were speechless. This happened multiple times throughout our visit. He rarely checked back on us, but with his attitude I was glad he didn't. The check took forever. I had to ask another server, who was also aloof, to bring it out. We didn't get a chance to ask for separate checks and since we were such a small party we wrote the divisions on the back. He didn't understand and seemed very frustrated with the situation. The entire time, as guests, we felt we couldn't ask our server anything because we had no idea what was going to tick him off. What really confused me was the fact that it was past 11 pm and we were one of 5 tables being served.... Clearly his hands weren't too full.

Great new restaurant. Went for burgers in the evening. The menu isn't as cheap as it could be but you get a ton of food and it was delicious. Many TVs help the bar like atmosphere. Reminds me of Bar Louie. Will definitely go again!

While the ambiance is great and the space itself is really nice. SERVICE IS AWFUL. I visited J.T.'s for the first time as a part of a special event. On that night, there was an open bar special where $25 afforded you unlimited drinks all night. The bar tenders were extremely unpleasant, ignoring me several times and mixing sub-par beverages. I understand that with the influx of anxious college students, the entire experience was stressful, but unfriendly service should never be an option, no matter what the case. To give compliments where they are due, the food that I did taste was delicious, and i would be willing to visit again on my own. Perhaps the service would be better then.

-DO NOT ORDER- Our dinner delivery took over an hour (estimated time was 40 min) for just 2 burgers (less than 2 miles away) and EVERYTHING was cold. Not to mention they didn't even get the order right! The Spinach artichoke burger didn't have any Spinach

Went on an early Friday night and was so disappointed. Was seated by a nice girl who also said she would be our server. Left us at the table and promised to return in a couple minutes to take our drink orders. 17 minutes later and she hadn't returned. The place was slow, there was a lot of staff, but this girl completely forgot about us. Finally, I asked another server for help and he went to get her. She walked up to the table, got confused, then walked to our neighbor table and asked how she could help. Immediately, the other server ran over and said she was counting the tables wrong. She walked up to us, didn't apologize, and said, "what do you want?" I was appalled.

Wow - very underwhelmed. My wife and I stopped in after church for lunch. We sat down and ordered right away (we were in a hurry). It took over a 1/2 hour for our milkshakes and burgers to come out. No one checked on us in between when we ordered and when our food came out. Our waitress acted like it was normal to wait that long for a drink..... the food wasn't good. My burger was average, my wife's pulled pork was very fatty and tasted pretty gross. The whole processes to have a quick lunch took -forever-. The apathetic waitstaff and poor/average food make this place not worth trying again.

I agree with Jass on this one - I tried J.T.'s for lunch and it was good, although nothing out of the world. If I could, I'd give it 4 stars. Pros: - quantity of food - food quality - my omelette was solid, and my companion enjoyed her salad, too - menu diversity - this is its strength. If you feel like omelettes and your companion wants burgers, this is a good choice. - we had fine service, unlike some others on Yelp.

If the menu reminds you of Clarke's, it should - I do not know the full details but that a part of the Clarke's ownership branched off and opened J.T's. The quality of ingredients is noticeably better -- I have not had cold cafeteria style meats in my skillets yet. The pancakes are much better as is the service. Our waitress was the most gregarious waitress I've ever met, to the point that I am not sure if she was drunk or not. The ambiance, space, and location is also much better. Comfortable booths, TVs, a orange juice machine, a large show oven in the middle of the dining room, the aesthetics are very good. The fact that it is also a bar and is open until 3am every day pushes me to give 4 stars. As far as pricing goes, it seems similar to Clarke's but you'll get better bang for your buck once you realize the better quality.

I've been to J.t's 4 times now and I highly recommend it to anyone who's looking to have good food, in a very nice atmosphere. The place itself is spacious and well laid out with plenty of big screen tvs. I've had their nachos, chicken fingers, salmon, mushroom burger, and I can honestly say it was all very tasty. The variety of food is a huge strength. Ive only had their french toast from the breakfast menu(also really good). They have fresh squeezed orange juice which I keep hearing is good. Soon I'll try out most of their breakfast menu. Overall, if its just you and a friend or a group of 20 J.ts ambiance and food quality will not disappoint.

One of the worst restaurants I've ever been to. My wife and I walked into an empty restaurant and were never greeeted, so we sat ourselves...first bad sign. A dishelved server walked up to our table and asked if we would like something to drink. I ordered a craft beer and my wife a glass of Sauvignon Blanc. 15 minutes later, my warm beer was served and my wife, a glass of warm Chardonnay...second bad sign. We proceeded to order a BBQ Chicken pizza and cheese quesadillas...not a difficult order. 35 mins later no food...3rd strike...our patience ran out. This place won't be around for long, but I felt compelled to share this story with all. An outright waste of time.

I was recently visiting Northwestern and had to grab a bite to eat before heading to a 9:15am info session on campus. After asking an employee at the Sheraton where to eat breakfast, we decided to try out what he informed us to be "a new restaurant" in Evanston. Right away, their sign caught my eye: Open from 7am-3am. I couldn't believe it! We were seated and brought beverages right away (granted, it was early on a Friday morning, and we were the only ones there). The overall atmosphere was very nice. The music was young and upbeat. The decor and seating were very comfortable and professional-looking. As JT's prides itself on breakfast, I had to choose from the enormous number of options and settled on an omelette. I soon found out that homefries and either toast, an English muffin, or two pancakes came along with it! I have never been to a restaurant that offers a side of pancakes in place of toast for no extra charge! By the time I got around to touching my pancakes, I was already full on the omelette but attempted to eat some pancakes so as not to be wasteful. I planned to only eat a bite or so, but the pancakes were so tasty that I couldn't resist eating more! As well, the hot chocolate was tasty (especially the whipped cream, which I found to be noticeably better than average restaurant whipped cream). I was sad to find out that JT's makes fresh-squeezed orange juice, as I would have loved to try a glass before leaving for the info session at Northwestern! Overall: good service, friendly employees, exceptionally nice atmosphere for that type of casual dining, great menu with lots of Mexican food options, good prices. I could easily imagine Northwestern students going to JT's at 3am. If I could rate it 4.5, I would. Nothing is perfect, after all ;) However, a 5 does it much more justice than a 4.

We love J.T.'s. We always have a good time. The staff is friendly. You will wait on occasion for an order to be taken or the food to be served, but nothing terribly unreasonable. Decent selection of beer and a GREAT BLT sandwich!!

cheap and yummy! to be fair i was playing garbage disposal and eating all my friends' leftovers since i showed up late, but the bacon & potato & cheese skillet was delicious even when it was cold, and the small side of fruit (sweet and fresh tasting) i got was pretty large for "small" and only $1.50. coffee was standard diner fare but wasn't burnt. just wish there weren't TVs every freaking where, but i get distracted easily and don't care for sports so it's probably just me.

horrible horrible service( from the older hispanic waiter, who was very rude) i will never come back to this place again only for that reason.
