This place has potential. HOWEVER... The martinis are very small. Tasty, just small, so I needed a minimum of 3 to feel any buzz. At at least $9 each plus juke box money, this adds up. They are a bit overly sweet for me too so after 2 I just of these I just switched to the strong old man kind. Second- the music (or lack thereof). There was lame, quiet jazz music playing so I HAD to liven up the place by playing songs that were 50 cents to a dollar each. Without lively music, my night is just sleepy. I cannot understand why so many establishments play such quiet and bad music!!! Then this place was a bit too dark if you can believe it. Couldn't even check myself out in the mirror in the bathroom hall. The disco ball was cool though. Again, it had potential but I don't see myself returning. My husband's martinis are just too good and this place DOES NOT COMPETE.

This place is pretty cool... locally owned and drinks are awesome. Ursala the owner was friendly and chatted with us for some time. Liz and Amy were excellent bartenders and very knowledgeable about the menu. The atmosphere is great at this place very laid back. Iam looking forward to making this my go to spot when working in the area.

We have been here several times. My wife absolutely loves the martinis here. She always suggest to go to the Martini room and get a "life is good" martini. If I ever need to bribe my wife, all I have to do is offer to take her to the martini room and then I get what I want. Lol!!

I never really knew about this place, it has some really nice interiors and some of the drinks really looked good and cool. We had gone here, pretty much during closing time, but it is open till 3 am on Saturdays, last order is at 2:30 am. I think Hookah is also available, because I did see some on the far side of the club. I will probably be back to this place if I get an another opportunity.

You're an idiot if you give this place less than 5 stars. They have the most amazing martinis. The orange dreamcicle martini is like candy and I always drink 5 within 5 minutes. Great prices. Wish they had food but thats ok. Its nice and dark in there so if you don't look that good and wanna hook up with someone they won't notice if you're ugly. I'm not ugly so I don't have to worry. They have the BEST martinis!!!!!

Expensive. Slow. Smells like a basement. I can't get over how musty it smells in there. It tends to be overly packed by the door and getting drinks can be a major effort.

Having heard many good things about the Martini Room I decided that I had to check it out. I went with my sister and my cousin for a girls night out with fun drinks. I was very impressed upon walking into the Martini Room with the decor. I love the exposed brick and loft feel. We scooped out the place and took a seat on some of the couches. When the waitress came over to get our first drink order I couldn't decide what I should try, as the menu is very large. She asked if she could help and described a drink to me that I couldn't pass up. When our drinks arrived I was very happy with her suggestion. The music, decor and drinks we all a big hit. Next time I think we will come a little later in the night as there was a DJ that just started to play as it was time for us to leave. Over all great experience! Will defiantly be back!

Two stars -- one for the taste of the drinks and one for the décor. When we walked in, the waitress was quick to take our orders, but that was pretty much the only time she was quick. I understand that it was Saturday night so it was semi-busy, but I've never had such horrible service. Even when we told her we were in a hurry and needed our checks ASAP, we were left waiting for awhile and then forced to search for her. Besides the awful service, the drinks were small and weak -- this coming from a girl that appreciates all that is small and weak. I had the Mangotini and although it tasted like a delicious summery smoothie, I'm skeptical about whether there was any alcohol in it. The atmosphere was probably the highlight of the place -- dark and lounge-y with comfy couches and pillows in black and red Valentine's Day-esque colors. Too bad that wasn't enough to keep us there. Once we heard the same song for the third time and waited 15+ minutes for drinks , we were ready to leave.

The place is nicely decorated, I liked the seating & music. Drinks were ok..kind of weak and ok priced I guess. I didn't like their service, it's a lounge in the suburbs..they should be able to handle 5 people at the bar or 10 people at a table (tell your servers to take an extra minute to ask everyone if they need a drink). It didn't seem busy but for some reason it took about 30 min to get a drink. I don't think I have EVER had to wait 30 min for a drink DOWNTOWN or in VEGAS..and it happened to me in Elgin of all places :/ I'm a bartender; I get it, you have your favorite people and you take care of them first, no big deal but I gave this ignorant bartender a $4 tip on a drink (ONE DRINK) AFTER she made me wait about 30 min for it so she could move it faster next time around and what happens next time? Both bartenders are just chillin, pacing back and forth being super slow..and didn't even acknowledge my existence. That place should consider getting someone who can actually bartend with some speed. It'll probably help their bottom line too! So after waiting and waiting I went back to my party and there was someone picking up glasses who said that she wasn't a server but got me a drink anyway. And by the way, this wasn't a complicated martini this was a Ketle One & Soda..a drink that takes 7 seconds to make!! Anyway, point is..nice place but you should get faster people that are actually nice to your customers. I would realllllly have to think about it if I was invited to go back. But to go voluntarily? No way Jose!

I loved this place. It was my first time here and I am wanting to go back just for the service and the atmosphere. I am not from Elgin but needed to meet a date somewhere half way. This was going to be our first date and I didn't want to mess stuff up. You know women, first date, bad place, last date. I chose the Martini Room based on yelp reviews. I pulled up outside and thought the place looked a little iffy. Needs some paint and a face lift on the outside. I went in and was warmly greeted by Dana the bartender. This girl is fantastic. Warm, personable, and makes some great drinks. We found a place in the back on one of the couches. Dana quickly came and lit some candles and took our order. The ambiance was great for a date. The girl I was with looked at me and smiled, and said, "Wow how did you find this place?" I was starting to look like a shining star because I suggested to Martini Room for our date. It was pretty early and not very busy. Dana returned with our drinks and we struck up a friendly conversation. Dana sat down and visited with us for awhile. I had bourght my own Ribs from home that I had smoked earlier in the day, and we all shared them. Yes, they will even let you bring outside food in. This bar was Fantastic and Dana made sure our night was enjoyable. I will be going back soon. First, I am going to call though and go when I know Dana will be there. Thanks Dana

Uh Oh! Not sure what was going on with our server. Thought she was a valley girl form the way she spoke. Not a big deal. The problem we had was it seemed like she was on something. Seemed somewhat disoriented. She asked for our card to keep a tab then wished us a good evening but never brought the check. She also spilled the drinks all over the table and made a poor attempt to clean it up. On the positive side the drinks were still good, but the server was another story.

The service is quick especially considering the craft/time going into these specialty cocktails. To be fair, I didn't try any of the Martinis, but 3/5 of our party did and they liked their drinks very much. But, let's be honest, drinks are usually either good or just done wrong. I don't put a lot of weight on the drink quality as long as they are properly made. Why I DO like the Martini Room is the ambiance. I have been here 3 times now. As a party of 2, 3, and 5. In my experience this is a GREAT place to bring a small group of people. Many groups of women out on apparent "ladies night out" who all seemed to be having a blast. My wife, another couple, a friend, and myself went and it was very fun and comfortable sitting on the sectional couch around a glass coffee table enjoying cocktails, people watching, looking at the local art on the wall for sale (that changes frequently), and holding conversations. Come earlier to secure one of these seating areas when you have a group. The music was typical for a cocktail bar electro-swing/dance/hip-hop and whatever else the DJ seemed to deem necessary to make the mood right. This part of Elgin, IL has a wide variety of bars from punk(ish) scenes to dance clubs, decent dives, and nicer places such as the Martini Room. A great destination if you want to have a wide variety to your night. Tip: We always eat at the Elgin Public House beforehand (everything is good, burgers are out of this world).

Friday night shenanigans with the girls. Came in around 9:30pm. I have previously been here on other occasions, but it has been a long time. The place is not huge but I love the lofty feel of it as well as the couches that are set up all around. If you are into art, this is a great place to check out some of the local art as they display and use it as their decor. Martinis are delicious but a little on the pricey side. I had a Strawberry Lemon Drop martini, followed by two Cinnamon Roll martinis. Service was on par and I like the fact that they bring you a bottle of water with the drinks, huge plus for me. I will be returning to try some of their other Martinis soon.

Martini? Check. Martini flights?? Check! Belly dancers??? Check! Check! I am a martini girl. The more options, the better. In fact, if there was a cupcake martini, I'd surely have died and gone to heaven. And perhaps that's what happened last night because there were tons of options and it was- wait for it-- Martini Flight Wednesday...let's just pause here for a moment to take in what IMO should be a national holiday, shall we...? And we are back. Once I learned about the flight, I was singularly focused. It's $13 for 5 not-so-mini martinis, and because this is October, there was a seasonal aspect to it. Hello pumpkin pie martini. You belong to me now. There was a sea salt caramel (YES!), a Pama Razz, something ginger & cilantro-y, and a cranberry one. Not a bad one in the bunch! I'd really recommend the quite affordable flight if you're like me, decision challenged and in love with martinis. So, besides martini heaven, we were there for a belly dancing show that is put on there semi-regularly. A friend is a dancer (shout-out J-diggity!) and this is the first time I've been able to see her perform. I was super excited. And friend or not, this was a great show!! I knew it would be fun, but I was blown away by the costumes, makeup (Halloween show to boot!), eclectic music selections and of course, the dancing! This is NOT your mama's belly dancers! OK, my mom didn't belly dance either, but still, color me surprised when I heard Nine Inch Nails and White Zombie pouring out of the speakers for some of the dance performances! It. was. ON. There are performers of varying levels and skills, all shapes and sizes, and all of them were entertaining. We had nice front row seats, so I was assaulted by all sorts of things: scarves, candles, blades, not really, but we were up close and personal and it was pretty fantastic! (Um, I did not know stomach muscles could do that- and while balancing a tea service on your head?? Don't get any ideas, husband.) I especially loved the drama of it all: a sorrow dance, a Zombie belly dancer, beautiful seductive dances, steam punk dancers, Bollywood hybrid belly dances. I mean, the variety just couldn't be beat. I'd say there were 3 sets, probably 12-16 dances total with a couple intermissions. Started at 8, ended at 10:30. Did I mention...no cover charge? Oh, yeah, mama like! I highly encourage you to visit when Eastern Groove Studio (and guest dancers) perform. All shows may not be so elaborate, as this was the Halloween show, but I don't think you'll be disappointed, particularly if you have a table of martinis in front of you. :) And the bar itself, bartenders and servers were excellent. This bar in Elgin could easily be a bar in Chicago. It had a very cool vibe going, dark and dramatically lit, exposed brick, several comfy couches and pub tables and a nice long, sleek bar. It's not a very big space, but it worked really well considering the size of the space and how many dancers there were. Our drinks were delicious- keep em coming- and the servers could not have been nicer, and efficient in their service sorta squished in between dance segments. Hard cider was $6, pricey but not terrible, and martinis were very reasonable $4-$12 depending. This is about an hour drive for me, and I went for the dancing, and would most definitely do that again, coupling it with dinner beforehand. But even without it, I'd happily come back to the Martini Room any national holiday Martini Flight Wednesday. Hey, I'm a patriot. ;)

I came out here out of the blue with the guys to just to celebrate life and take in the start of the weekend. I was taken back by the atmosphere here! First thing to make note of is that this spot is a real nice casual lounge serving tons of different kinds of Martini's and other drink specials. So whether you drink Martini's or not, the staff has you covered here. The scenery is decorated with art pieces from local artists in the area, which give the spot a really good stylish look and adds to the atmosphere. Fellas, this is the spot you take your girl to when she wants to go out, but relax and chill. There are plenty of couches and seating here and there is no stress or pressure to when you walk in. Staff was very knowledgeable and friendly. The night I went (Friday Night) was old school night and my crew loved it. They played old school acid house, hip-house, and other club favorites. If you wanted to dance, there is a section cleared off for dancing as well. Otherwise, you can enjoy the throwback music and take in the nightlife. Really loved this part of the Martini Room. Good Music creates a good vibe and in turn creates return business. For those that think there isn't a good night time lounge in downtown Elgin, I'm telling you, check this spot out. You won't regret it. I am a Resident Recommended Professional for the Elgin Area. #ResidentRec

Dont Judge from the outside this place has some depth to it, and is very nice layout, drinks were pretty decent, but the decor and the music they played were on point.

Great little martini lounge near downtown Elgin. The owner, Ula, is very sweet. I've always had good, attentive bartenders. They have a comfy couch area. Large, well poured martinis. Lots of delicious options. The caramel apple martini was amazeballs. It's my new go-to when I'm up in that area after work!

I had a great experience here! I came here last night with a group of three other people, and we sat at the bar. It wasn't particularly busy, but that was better for us because we got exceptional service. Although I think the bartender, RJ, would have been amazing no matter what. He was quick with his suggestions AND his service. We tried SO many of the martinis: Dreamsicle: A-MA-ZING. Oh my gosh, you NEED to order this. Hands down the best martini we tried there and that I have had anywhere!! Mangotini: Fantastic as well, and it is the special of the month--I had two! It went down way too easily! Star Burst: Delicious as well! Passionista: Not my cup of tea. It was ok, but my friend finished it for me. I think there might have been one more, but I can't remember...the martinis were that good ;) Thanks for a great time, RJ!!

Overpriced as hell but the drinks are decent; the martini with the blue cheese stuffed olives, I forget the name, is really good and the Elgin something or other, has a binch of basil, is fantastic.

**Update** Thank you Ursula for the comment and refund. As mentioned the drinks were real good, and like the selection to choose from. This is a nice place to go for a drink and chat and enjoy the local artwork that is often on display. Although the bill situation was not handled well at the time by the bartender, I appreciate the managers response and resolution to the situation. Updating rating from a 1 to 3 overall for this specific visit, and willing to give it another shot next time I am in that area.

I love the Martini Room and so glad it is here in Elgin! I try to get there at least once a month to order the Martini flight while I catch up with a girlfriend. The last time I went for a couple drinks with my husband, I ordered the winning Smoking Gun. I couldn't believe the creativity that went into this martini! The burning of the rosemary is just perfect. The taste is not overpowering within the martini, there is a hint. Soooooo good! Don't forget about the music on Friday nights. That's when I get a chance to go. The music is the perfect mix of cool, sexy and then hot and energetic. Gotta tell ya: vodka, music and creativity? Totally worth it!

I recently visited this place after a few year hiatus and was very disappointed. I have had a good time at this place in the past, but this time a female bartender was rude and unwelcoming to my wife and I. The place wasn't even busy; she was just rude to be rude. It was the first time in my life (and I'm close to 40) that I didn't even bother leaving a dollar for a tip.

Cool looking bar and definitely a fun place to hang out. It's interesting to see the crowd change as the night goes on... One of the bartenders looked like she was drunk and I saw her pounding down a beer, but it made for a funny conversation.

I used to frequent all the time, but after 2 terrible experiences with their ID checker and their laziness and inability to know what a passport is. I don't drive and its official enough to get me into other countries, but hes too dumb to read. Hed rather insult me and give me a hard time rather than doing his job. After a few seconds of argument he still let me in tonight but he pissed me off bad enough that I left without buying 1 drink & will not be going back.

It's a decent sized place and one of the things I really like about it is that you can sit comfortably at the bar or take advantage of the many couches available. It's really cozy if you're on a date or want to chill with some friends. Last time I was there they had an art class going on so the seating can be used for lots of stuff. Very community minded. I don't know if it's under new management but the server was great and there was a gal (Manager type) that walked around and made sure everyone was happy. Martini's always perfect - they even have blue cheese olives! This is my favorite spot in Elgin for cocktails.

Love this place! I live in the neighborhood and always enjoy a night over to the Martini Room. The drinks are a little pricy, yes, but SO tasty. I love the frequent change of artwork they have hanging up by local artists, and the event nights, like Prohibition Night are AMAZING. They have great deals throughout the week, and have created such a swanky, sexy, vintage environment. Love the couches and the table-service. Great group!

I've been to Martini Room a few times (go on Wednesdays for flights to sample 5 of the martinis!) but last night specifically I went for my birthday! I tried the Picante Martini which is my new favorite and it was delicious. I also tried the cotton candy martini which is super cool because they pour it over real cotton candy and it melts into the drink so quickly it looks like it just disappears! The atmosphere is really fun and mellow on weekdays but very upbeat with a DJ and dancing on weekends. There are tons of martinis to choose from as well as great other drinks. Martini Room is one of the best spots in Elgin, hands down!

I just had my husband's birthday party here and reserved the back couch area for around 30 people and had a great experience. I work in the service industry so I always have high expectations and I felt their team really exceeded my expectations! Their GM, Brian was very attentive in making sure all of our needs were met from my initial phone call with him to the closing out of my bill. The owner, Ursula also introduced herself and made touch points with me. Our server Shauna was friendly, personable and attentive to all of my guests needs. In general, I love the cozy atmosphere of this bar and especially love all of the local art on the walls and the sofas with coffee tables. They have a great assortment of martinis which I feel are a little small but perfectly mixed. The DJ spins at 10pm on Saturdays and has a great mix of music. I've been here many times and will definitely be back again!..oh and don't miss out on Halloween. They have a great Halloween costume contest and there is always a huge turnout and everyone is in great spirits!

The Martini Room has been in Elgin for six years and has never been stronger. The prices can't be beat on special nights (tonight's $6 night!) and the Au Pair (pear) martini is killer. The owner/manager rocks the joint with her mixology and her other tender does a fine job, but isn't as heavy handed. The decor is funky and fun - what do you want. It's nice to sit in a more comfortable chair/couch than in a hard wood chair. I appreciate that. I hope they stay open. With the sad shape of Elgin's roads (thank the mayor, not the Martini Room) please don't be discouraged in visiting.

Been here numerous times, for parties to art shows, this place is a diamond in the rough! Great martini's, fantastic selection. Lofty feel with great artistic vibe. Perfect for going out dancing and lounging without all the drunk 21 year olds grinding on each other...this is a grown folks kinda place!

  • Andy D.

As a martini bar...you would think they could make a good martini!!! The drinks were weak. The server could care less if you had Absolute or Goose. Prices were insulting for the caliber of bar in Elgin. The stemware was generic department store quality with very limited capacity. The first garnish was knocked off by the server (who left it laying on the ground for us to pick-up). My third garnish was absent from the drink. In addition, the martinis suffered sever losses of quantity during its journey from the bar to my table. The cliental seemed a little misplaced for the martini bar they were billing themselves as. I noticed countless amounts of sports attire on a Saturday night. Also, for a place that highlights the martini...there sure were a lot of Coronas being served. The décor was decent. The sitting areas were sleek and upscale. The walls were decorated with pieces from local artist that could be purchased (nice touch). Lighting was clearly purchased at Spencer's. The bathroom was very disheveled and reminded me of a 7/11 restroom. Overall, this bar pretends to be something its not. There are far better places in the suburbs for this type of bar.

One night I decided, why not try something different and head out to Elgin to this martini bar I've been hearing about? I expected the crowd to be a little bit older, maybe a little bit more upscale atmosphere...I was wrong. This place has a pretty nice martini list, but it is not at all classy. The music was decent but it's pretty small so it was kind of overwhelming. I was a little put off by the crowd just because I expected a more refined atmosphere. I haven't been back and am not sure if I ever will return. Just not really worth it.
