Amazing place! Unkle Munkeys has great food mixed with retro video games and wonderful service. This little restaurant may be situated in the middle of a run-of-mill strip mall, but the inside is beautiful. The retro video games match perfectly with the repurposed doors and windows that adorn the walls and create the backdrop for the lighting. We ordered wings, pizza and appetizers and everything came out hot and delicious. I would definitely recommend this place to family and friends.

I like this place so much, I always make the 30 minutes drive over the river from St. Louis when I am back in the Midwest visiting family. The bartenders are always friendly. The selection of games is ON POINT and the pricing is totally reasonable. (Galaga is 25c - AS IT SHOULD BE!) The sandwich and wings (get the special Unkle Munkey sauce) that I've had tasted phenomenal. Wings are on special for 30c each on Monday, as well. Play the shuffle-board style game next to the bar called Bull's Balls (or something along those lines) with a friend or few. It occupied a lot of our time, and left us wanting access to this game back home in Cali. I'm not sure if the scores reset every night or not, but I -think- they do. Oh! Skeeball gives tickets that you can redeem for a ring pop or 10% off of your bill. My only complaint is the lack of local STL drafts on the menu. This was the first bar on my visit home that DIDN'T have any 4Hands. Schlafly is fine, but just have a few of those and branch out to other locals!

First time here. The food and atmosphere was great, however our server Daniel was HORRIBLE! It took forever for him to take our drink order and then our food order. He never introduced himself I only knew his name because of the check. He never checked in after we got our food to see if everything was fine. I would be willing to try again just not with that server. We felt ignored by him the whole time!

Seriously? Great bar, amazing food, and classic fun games. We brought our kids Monday night, they at free, adult beverages were half off and wings for $0.20. We struggled to finish $15 worth of food. Play ski ball and save your tickets for an age appropriate treat!

Great, cheap food! Bar scene, but still kid-friendly with plenty of arcade games (25-50 cents each). Decor is fun, but not too crazy. Not too great for groups of more than 6. I had the turkey avocado burger, definitely worth the try!

First off, the decoration of the doorway coming in and out is great. Had the Hot Mess sandwich and, appropriately, an 8-bit Ale. Pastrami, roast beef, bacon all melted up with cheese and hot peppers on awesome bread from Companion. Great sandwich. This place nails it on food and games. Time to go play some pinball.

The decor was top notch. Great food and fun video games! The egg salad sandwich was really good, with a little Sriracha to give it a kick. The ChicoTeen nachos had braised beef on them and my son loved them. It was a very large platter for a great price. His friends both got the Hot Mess sandwich and really liked it. Can't wait to go back.

We really enjoyed Unkle Munkey's. Went on a Monday around 5pm with three kids from 5-12. Definitely a good time to go for the family before the college students start showing up. All of the games really brought a blast from the past, and most of them worked correctly, though the skeeball needs some revamping. They constantly ate quarters and didn't register points. The food was also very good, and well priced. Chili dog with chips and a pickle for $4? Absolutely. Mac and cheese for the kids for $3? Not to mention the .20 wings which were pretty good. Their fryer was down so their wings weren't as crisp and delicious as they could've been -- they had to use the fryer for Wang Gang next door, which the owner of Unkle Munkey's also owns. We saw a pizza go by to another table and it looked AWESOME. With kids eating free, our meals with soft drinks, an appetizer, and two domestics came to $27. Seriously. Most of the games are a quarter as mentioned, while the pinball games are mostly two. Guitar Hero was the highest at $1. Give this place a try, we'll definitely be back. We want to try that pizza! Kudos to our server Isaac, who is fairly new but took good care of us. Another server Hamada was absolutely incredible. Very personable and kept the kids on their feet and smiling the whole time!

Staff including bartender = not friendly at all. They're supposed to have fun...or at least act like they are. Anyone would kill to have a job these days, especially at a place like that in this Obama-fied economy. I went there on a Wednesday night and I loved all the games they had, but I didn't bother to try with the food since the bartender was more than rude to me. I said something to the gal who worked there that night about my coins being stuck in the Pacman machine and she just griped about it. I liked how they have karaoke there (I don't know if its a nightly or occasional thing), and the only other good thing is most of the games are cheap, just like the old days! No complaining about that. The guy from Wang Gang tried so hard to make the place look like an 80s arcade. Guess there's no turning back in his case.

I really wanted to love Unkle Munkey's since a good barcade is truly the best kind of establishment to hang out in, but this place just isn't it. The game selection is okay. There are some fun surprises like the ski ball, a photo booth, and guitar hero and I love that almost everything is only a quarter! It's a bit annoying that there are large canvases with Street Fighter characters decorating the space, but no actual Street Fighter game. The food and drinks are fun, but my main beef with this place is the aggressive frat boy vibes. Hear me out. I feel like a barcade should be welcoming and fun for everyone--especially nerds, right?! It should be a nerd's paradise! As a female nerd, I felt pretty uncomfortable here. The "rules" on the front window are off-putting and one of them states "Saggy pants--leave them at home, see rule #1" which refers to a rule saying they can kick anyone out for any reason. I get that a place like this needs to enforce non-rowdy behavior because they have to maintain their machines, but mentioning "baggy pants" just sounds specifically targeted and racist, to be honest. It made me so wary I almost turned right around and went home. The employees were wearing "That's what she said" t-shirts and there were giant boobed, scantily clad anime girls all over the bar. I have a sense of humor and am not uptight--those things aren't necessarily offensive to me, just send an overall vibe saying "this is a man cave atmosphere" that I'm so sick of in nerd culture. I just want to relax and enjoy some drinks and games, not be constantly reminded that it's weird that I'm even into this stuff.

We attended the 'soft opening' here on July 9, which was also a benefit for pet rescue Partners For Pets. This is merely a tentative review, as we didn't get to order off the menu, we just got to sample a few things off the menu. I will update this review as soon as we get to go back post-Grand Opening. Food: We only got to sample a couple of things since it was a soft-open sample event: two kinds of pizza, homemade chips, and nachos. The homemade chips were yummy, and the pizza with braised beef (looks like it's the DBB Kid on the menu) was really good, and I don't actually like beef so that was a surprise (neither of us ate the other kind of pizza because it had pineapple on it.) My boyfriend sampled the nachos and enjoyed them, and said if we came back he would order them. I'm looking forward to trying the "Kenosha Kicker" mentioned on their menu. My only gripe is that both of our sodas were almost entirely free of carbonation, like the machines weren't properly calibrated. I'm sure this will be fixed by the time we return, as I think this was their first night open for business. Games: All the staples were there: Super Mario Bros, Mortal Kombat, Pac-Man, Tron, Asteroids, Tetris. They also had tons of pinball machines, and 2 Skee-Ball machines. The arcade part of this place leaves nothing to be desired. One of the perks of showing up so early is that my terrible scores ended up on the high-score lists! The decor was pretty cool, and dark (obviously, it's an arcade.) Neither of us drink so I cannot speak to the quality of the bar, hopefully someone comes and reviews it soon.

I really wanted to enjoy being at Uncle Munkeys but the was not to be. The place was ridiculously load, there aren't utensils. All finger food so the college students don't steal it. No salt or pepper shakers either. The staff was incompetent. It took 25 minutes to get a roll of quarters since their change machines are from 1970. Seriously 25 minutes. I only tolerated it because my kid wanted to play the games. Then we found out that Most of the games were not functioning or just taking your quarters. It could be great if it had management who cared enough to train their staff and make it easy for you to enjoy yourself, was twice as large, and had machines that worked. Also, the noise level was intolerable and the jukebox was not even playing.

Tonight was my second visit to this place and I have to say it has hit its stride since my first visit. First of all, they have expanded into the empty store front next to them to allow for more restaurant style seating, which was VERY much needed. This was my first time having their food. I got the Hot Mess and my husband the original style wings. I also got the pasta salad instead of the chips that come with it. The sandwich was good, a little greasy. The pasta salad was a bit bland. There really wasn't much "stuff" in it like the description said, just mainly pasta and a little bit of pepperoni and cauliflower. The wings were very good. Nice crunchy outside, juicy inside. Onto the games. It always sucks when there is a game you want to play and it's not working. I will say there were only 3 out of order games on the floor, one of them happened to be Guitar Hero. This isn't the place to come if you want to play new, high tech games. These are classic games for sure. But that's the charm of this place. They also have ski ball and you can trade the tickets for beer! This is a fun place that is a break from the norm. It's not too over run with kids, which makes it more "grown up" than Edison's or other places. I can't wait to go back with other people!

I was very surprised by this place. For whatever reason I had always thought it was a dive bar and wouldn't be great but when I finally got here it was amazing! Our waitress was very upbeat, friendly and helpful. The food was delicious-something for everyone. Best part- tons of arcade games for you to play! So much fun, I can't wait to go back.

Super fun spot. We love the arcade games and the fact it is not infested with a bunch of college students since it is so close to SIUE. The food was awesome to and for the price. Highly recommend the philly steak.

I'm not much of a gamer so my rating is not for the games. Why I love Unkle Munkey's is the food. I've only had two items but they were AMAZING! First I got the Foghorn Leghorn (I think) sandwich that comes with homemade chips. The sandwich was piled high with chicken and had a great seasoning from all the other additions to it! Dreamy sandwich! The chips were nice and crisp - yum! The last time, our waiter, Isaac, told me about the new Strawberry Salad they have and recommended it. It was big and the strawberry dressing was perfect and light! I love that they used only the darkest greens for the salad. I enjoyed it till the last forkfull! I don't remember what he had, but my husband loved his food both times, too! Isaac was a fabulous waiter as well - very attentive without being too much so. He came back to talk to us a couple of times about things we had in common. Enjoyable! Keep it up Unkle Munkey's!

I went there for the pinball, of course. And I was disappointed. It's quite obvious that there are two classes of machines at Unkle Munkey's: ones that are run by an operator, and ones that are run by the arcade itself. Maybe that's why Johnny Mnemonic was spotless and played like a dream, and Terminator 2 was barely playable and Lethal Weapon 3 was completely roached. It's certainly an ecclectic selection of games, mostly B- and C-list titles like F-14 Tomcat, Alien Star, and Baywatch. And then there are some inexplicable dogs, like Secret Service and Lost World, which are only fun if they are properly maintained. And they are most certainly not. Lost World in particular had flippers so malajusted that the game was unplayable. I don't really know about their Addams family, since the game was down for mechanical errors. On the upside, it's one of the nicest F-14's I've played on location, and the arcade games are nice. The Baby Pac Man is a fun little hybrid, though every time, the floor underneath has been so sticky that it's no fun to play. Also, while there is a decent bar at the place, there aren't any cupholders ANYWHERE, making it a bit of a chore to enjoy a drink while you play. If you're into arcade games, Unkle Munkey's should be up your alley. If you're there for the pinball, don't expect too much. If you're going to have pins on location, please take care of them. If you don't know how to, or simply don't want to, then take them away!

So I've been there a few times since they have opened, both for games and food, and this place is awesome. I was a little bummed when they changed their menu at first (mostly because they got rid of the Ms Pac Man pasta salad) but after this past time having lunch there I don't care that it's gone anymore if they keep this awesome food coming out of the kitchen. The soup was amazing, broccoli cheese on part if not better than Bread Co's, and awesome brat with perfectly crisp casing, and my husband gave me a bite of his burger and it was delicious. Keep up the good work people and we'll keep coming back. Also the games are fun too ;)

I've been here several times with friends and once for a P4P animal shelter fundraiser. I give Unkle Monkey's two thumbs up! I'd much rather go here for games than Edison's, and I'd much rather go here for a drink than the Main St bar scene. This venue has a laid back 80's vibe with all of the classic arcade games, complete with PacMan, SkiBall, and a plethora of pinball machines! Games are a quarter or two, and tickets can be saved up to earn a free drink from the bar or a menu item. I store mine in a box at home (I'm not an avid SkiBaller, but figure I'll hang onto the tickets in case I save up enough for a free vodka soda)! The staff are quite nice. Their uniform consists of wearing a superhero/comic book themed t-shirt. The full, U-shaped bar and tables are in the back. The food is pretty good, too. Both the sandwich combo I ordered on one trip and the giant Chop salad I ordered on a different trip were delicious! They also have fun novelty drinks with video game themed names that are worth a try. Kiddos have to be out by 9 pm - that's when the 17 and older kicks in and it's more of an adult scene.

Definitely one of a kind! The bartenders, staff, and service are superb. And haven't found anything on the menu that wasn't delicious. If you haven't been here yet... you're simply missing out! Good for a date night or night out with friends.

A friend and I decided to try Unkle Munkey's for the first time today. Although we enjoyed ourselves due to the nerdy decor (motherboards on the walls, great artwork, lovely comic book bartop) and the wide selection of retro games (although Joust is already out of order), it is still too early in this restaurant's opening to recommend the food. They currently don't serve the Unkle Munkey's brand soda available next door, which is highly surprising. On top of that, their Pepsi soda was without syrup multiple times, even after I informed the waitress (it wasn't until my friend and I were about to leave, a whole 2 hours after arrival, that I was able to enjoy a soda.) But let's talk about the food, and why it can't be recommended as of yet. My order of the 'Hot Mess' sandwich, although piled high with lots of meat, came with the cheese still covered in some of the wax-paper wrapping, and was cooked this way. Regardless of this disgusting feature to what would have been a tasty sandwich, the sandwich itself, along with the kettle chips (of which I was not a fan, did not see a 'french fry' option, and ordered a side of the pimento baked potato salad which also proved to be lackluster and somewhat bland) would still not have been worth the $10 price tag being asked, as the sandwich, although it included lots of meat, was actually fairly small and seemed even smaller when cut in halves (the sandwich itself took up what seemed to be 1/4 of the basket it was served in, while the kettle chips were generously spread out across the remaining portion.) The sriracha hotness was nonexistent, especially when I opened the sandwich up to try and find it. I can understand now why it was so highly recommended by the wait staff, as I'm sure it is a good deal for the restaurant, but not such a great deal for the customer. Also, there was no bacon on my sandwich. My friend ordered a hot dog with no pickle. His hot dog included a pickle along with a pickle spear on the side. This was around 12:30 on a Thursday (with Mr. O'Day present), so I think the kitchen staff is still just new and the restaurant is still just working out the kinks. I do plan on returning and trying different menu items, as all the staff seemed extremely friendly and I enjoyed the atmosphere. This time, however, the food did not impress me and was not worth the price.

I LOVE this place! It's right in our own backyard and the best thing about it is I can give my son a handful of quarters and he can have a blast, too! Great food, great games, great drinks! And it doesn't cost a fortune

This is a really cool place that caters to all ages. It's not uncommon to see hipsters, yuppies and grandmas all within a few feet of each other here and all having a good time. This is one of the rare examples of a place being cool and family friendly at the same time.

We have been here twice now. The games are fine, I'm not much into video games so that part doesn't matter to me. The food is pretty good as well. I'd had their pizza, which I really liked. My only issue that I've experienced here is that trying to get a drink is near impossible. The two times we've visited, we've sat at the bar and ate since there is limited seating. Each time, it takes what seems like forever to get one of the bartenders to serve me. I feel like the bartenders ignore some people at the bar and tend to hang around where larger crowds are. This is a real turn-off for me. It's also a much younger crowd here in the evening.

Just what Edwardsville needed! Edison's is okay but this place is tailored more to the olden days that brings everyone back to their youth! Ski ball, pac man, pinball, tons of arcade options for young and old. Went in on a Monday and they had 20 cent wings and half off liquor! It was a steal. The place a little noisy but what do you expect at an arcade/restaurant/bar. It was a great experience and really happy they joined the community! Welcome!
