I feel the owner really didn't care about the Latinos, I will call her a "Sellout". I go once every two weeks because I appreciate the breakfast burrito, and her cooks. The owner customer service towards the Latinos is not good. Why anyone especially an owner will ignore her regulars. I will give a lot of respect to her cooks and for the owner.... Remember where you came from.... Don't treat everyone the same treat everyone fairly!

I feel so fortunate to have discovered a new, awesome, "go to" place for home-cooked, quality, authentic, Mexican food and the most tasty Margaritas in the Chicago Northwest Suburbs! From the minute you walk in, you just know it's going to be a unique experience! We shared the Border Nachos which are definitely not your typical cheese over taco chips! They are individual, perfect, thick, crisp, nacho wedges with beans and cheese baked on top, centered around a big scoop of fresh guacamole, fresh chopped tomatoes, onions, etc. and served with both their green and red salsas. We also loved the fresh, spicy, pico de gallo--so addictive!!! I ordered the chile relleno taco plate and asked to try a side of their incredible, rich, dark mole, which I think goes really well on top of.....well, EVERYTHING!!! The entire meal is just an amazing mixture of spices, textures and fresh flavors! There are many more options on the menu that I can't wait to try. Next to the smaller, original, eat-in or carry-out section, is a new dining room/bar that is clean, casual, with new high-top tables and a decor which reminds me so much of a cool, favorite, unpretentious, hang-out in a Mexico beach town. I love the modern, industrial, corrugated metal lower walls and the colorful, painted floor, but there's also a small, outdoor patio section. The atmosphere is welcoming and friendly, the food and drinks are authentic and fresh, and the new owners, Marilu and Israel, are lovely and seem to really care about creating a quality dining experience. We had a really fun night at Taco Village! The only drawback is it's tucked away in a little mall facing Rand Rd. and can be easy to miss the first time. But even if you miss the driveway, believe me, it's well worth the trip around the block!

Always call in to order so I can pick up without having to wait. Regardless of if you call or not, you ALWAYS wait 5-10 minutes anyway. Even at 1040p, when no one is there!! Their food is just okay. Ordered chilaquiles for the 5th time and like always.... the eggs are burnt to a crisp. Who wants to eat burned eggs? No. One. The lady in the front, I think the owner, gives you a lot of attitude too. Taking my business to Los Comales or burrito house from now on even though it's 3x further! It's Mexican food, how do you muck that up?

I refer to this place affectionately as Taco Sanctuary. The premium or top shelf margaritas are AMAZING!!! I HATE margarita mix, it's like diabetes in a bottle, but Taco Village makes theirs with fresh squeezed lime and orange juice and the smoothest tequila ever! Delish! I'm also a big mole fan, and have tasted tons of different mole sauces far and wide. Taco Village's mole is outstanding. Overall, great food and drinks, friendly service, casual atmosphere. So glad to have this place in my new neighborhood!

I've been to this place about a dozen times and the last time I visited, which was today, it was better than I remember it. Eating here was the equivalent of going through the prep of getting a colonoscopy. In other words it had the tendency to clean out your systems really quick. While the portions are big the quality was closer to what you get with fast food than a good Mexican restaurant. You couldn't even tell the difference between pork and chicken, probably was all the same. It's been about a year since I've been there and today it was a little different. The decor has definitely changed and the food had a better flavor. The pastor with the red sauce even tasted a bit different, for the better. I won't wait a year again to visit since it was a better experience. I like to give location conveniently located multiple chances to see if they improve and so far I think Taco village has improved some. Edit: I went back today and they screwed up my order. Burritos are advertised to include: "refried beans, rice, cheese, lettuce, and tomato in a flour tortilla." Mine had no lettuce and was filled with cilantro. Wouldn't be a big deal if I didn't hate cilantro. Ruined meal, won't go back if they can't consistently make burritos as advertised.

Where do I start. Man sometimes you need a breakfast burrito. You just do. 1. First time I went I noticed they touch food with bare hands. Yuck, gross and dangerous. Unfortunately it didn't stop me from ordering a couple more times. 2. Next time I went I ordered a Gringo NO CHEESE. I was hungry. I get home and sure enough cheese. I was to hangry and decided not to call because if I did, I wasn't going to be nice. 3. I tried again, we ordered a Gringo with no cheese and breakfast Gordito with no Chorizo. My gringo was correct but the breakfast Gordito was made not only without Chorizo but also without cheese or egg. This time my boyfriend was hangry lol It was his first solid meal after getting wisdom teeth out. We were so pissed. It's one thing to make a mistake on no cheese, it's another to complete mess up again. How is a breakfast burrito breakfast without eggs? And why put no cheese when we just asked for no Chorizo? And yes I saw them again handle food without gloves!! No longer will be ever go back.

Served me a BREAKFAST burrito at 1:40pm in afternoon - so extra instant points with me for not pulling that "past-11am, no breakfast BS". Food wasnt best ever, but it was good enough for me. Horchata, Flor de Jamaica (hibiscus) and jarritos avail to drink. Good hours ans close by. We'll be back. There's also a food challenge - "el jefe burrito", a 21" monstrosity (as thick as average persons arm) that you get for free if you can eat it in less than 15 minutes. Taking the challenge can earn you a spot on "Ted's Wall of Shame" or "The Wall of Champions". One question remains - which will you be on? Current Tally: El Jefe Burrito. 117 Men 7 Women 0 Will you get "bossed"? Or rise to the challenge?!?

Great food and service. Now a bar! Mary Lou (the former owner of Caliente) owns this location now! Incredible nachos, and margaritas!! Vendor shopping events on Tuesday nights, karaoke on Saturday nights!

Great tacos! I thought they were a bit pricey at first then I realized they actually filled the taco to max capacity. I got my delicious monies worth. Plus they have a full bar attached if you need to wait or just fancy a cold beer.

Typical Mexican menu on the cheap. Here you'll find tacos, burritos, tortas, etc along with delicious horchata and Jarritos. My huevos con chorizo cost me about $7 and I was full after eating it all. The portions are quite large and tasty so it's totally worth it. If you really want to step up your game, they have an eating challenge here. It's the Jefe burrito and it's a 5+ pound monster. Can't say for sure but I've heard that the time limit is 15 minutes to complete it. There is a wall of fame/shame of previous competitors. As of the time I write this, 108 have tried and only 6 have succeeded. Lots of Mexican decor is all around the place and it's BYOB. Ask for the chips and salsa if you dine in since they're free!

I've read the reviews, and I'm surprised at some of the negative comments. Some of them are old though, and I just discovered this place about a month ago. It's my new favorite Mexican restaurant in a sea of Mexican restaurants throughout Des Plaines (and believe me, there's LOTS of competition!) Unlike one other reviewer, one of the best things about this place is that, as a non-Mexican, I feel welcomed by the attentive staff, unlike some of the other, smaller Mexican restaurants who sometimes appear to be pissed that I walked into their joint, especially since I don't speak their language. The burrito I tried was the tastiest I've ever had - not sure what all the seasonings are in there, but it was savory, flavorful, and not your typical, meat/refried bean/tomato mush that you sometimes get at other burrito places. Mary Lou is a great chef, and a great hostess! And, I just love the little bar attached....great place to have a margarita and watch a Cubs game! Lastly, the prices are very reasonable - much better than they were at Caliente, which allows you to try a few different things on the menu without going broke! Keep up the good work - I will be back!

I love this place ..... Burrito is awesome ...... I don't think I could finish the challenge though (I bet my brother could)..... Never had anything that wasn't great ..... I usually get take out but they seem to be expanding and working on dining area

Place has delicious food but they changed the refried bean recipe and the beans are not as good but the cooks are awesome. The food is a decent price. They just opened a nice little bar next door. But def check out the Burritos they are pretty good. I hope they go back to the old refried beans recipe.

Located in a the strip mall at the corner of Rand and River road, this is a really unassuming place. However, don't be fooled by the simple signage and non-descript parking lot. This place has really good tacos. For the record, we have had: Fish Pork Chicken tacos, and we love each one of them. The chicken is seasoned perfectly, and the pork is equally tasty and tender. The fish tacos are also very good - they are not on the menu plastered on the wall, but there is a little sign behind the counter that says "Fish Tacos". A little more expensive than some of the other taqeiras in the neighborhood and nearby, but you get your money's worth.

I ate here a few times in the past and it was OK - maybe 2-3 star quality. I got a steak burrito for takeout today and will never be back. It was possibly the worst burrito I have ever had. I know that there is a likelihood that when you get a steak burrito you will get a bite or two that has grizzle or connective tissue in it. That's fine, not a shocker. First bite....had to spit it out due to large piece of fat. Second bite, same result, but I chewed a bit more and realized it didn't even taste good. Third bite...shocker - rough piece of fatty steak! My dog seemed to enjoy my $7 burrito as he was the only one in my house dumb enough to eat it. My only suspicion is the place was empty when I went in at noon and it was just reheated steak from last night. Either way - it sucked!

  • Rosa M.

DISGUSTING!!! this place will never get money from me ever again. I am Mexican and let me just tell you, this isn't Mexican food! It's garbage. Please go elsewhere. Cheap ingredients for a not so cheap price. It's a disgrace for them to call their food "Mexican"

  • Lefai K.

Its been several years since I've been here. I think the first time I went it was a grand opening and I had a Groupon. I came here the other weekend on the way back from somewhere and it was conveniently located at the corner of Rand Road and Des Plaines River Rd. This place has a fast food vibe, although they tote themselves as "Authentic" mexican food. The menu is posted on the wall and they have everything from tacos, burritos, and tortas. You order at the front, pay, and wait for them to call your number. The one cool part of this place is at the front they have a giant tub of pickled carrots, onions, and hot peppers and solo cups for you to pack them in and take home or to the table. That's money to me, as other places charge you for that stuff... not sure why, considered its so cheap to make. They also have tubs of hot sauce that you can just use too. To me, thats key -- I want to be able to use all the hot sauce I want without feeling guilty or cheap when they want to charge for extra hot sauce. Anywho, whats also interesting about this place is they have what they call the El Jefe burrito which is a gigantic burrito which is over 5lbs in weight and about 4 feet in length. They have a wall of fame and shame for those who took the "El Jefe Burrito Challenge" and was able to gorge the burrito in 20 minutes. Pretty cool and fun concept. So to the food -- pretty good stuff. I ordered the Al Pastor tacos and it was well-seasoned. The cilantro and onions were the right proportions. I just ordered it a la carte but for me ordering two of em was filling enough. The prices weren't too bad and I would definitely go back here versus El Famous Burrito and their cartilidge tacos.

Great food served in big portions for a low price (I'd suggest the loaded nachos), cozy atmosphere, polite employees, and open late!!!

We got chicken and steak burritos which were okay. Chicken was definitely better than steak. Salsa and chips were so so. I felt the entire meal lacked flavor and authenticity. It's like a Mexican spot for gringos.

This place doesn't even deserve a single star. The food here does not taste good. I went because I was in the neighborhood and a lot of people recommended this place to me. According to the reviews on here, it's good. I was disappointed. The rice was so bland. Taco burrito king would have been a better option.

  • Jeff W.

Place was great when it first opened but now it is just gamey nasty meat. Such a shame. Went down hill fast. I will stick to el famous!

It really makes me question the taste of Yelpers if they give this place more than 1 star. By far worst burritos in the Chicagoland area. I've tried this place three times and today was the final straw. You get a lot of food but the quality is awful. Ordered a Coke in a glass bottle and was lukewarm, hot sauce was not great, and the meat just tasted bland with a whole lot of fat. I just cannot understand how anybody would give this place more than two stars other than the fact that they do give you a lot of food. However, they do nickel and dime you for extras. I have given up eating at this establishment, no matter how large their burritos are. There are more quality places nearby, especially if you have a car.

    (1)
  • Ericka L.

Free chips and salsa for dining in. Had the chicken tacos and they were alright. I've had tacos with much more FLAVOR, you know? But that won't stop me from trying other items if I'm in the neighborhood again.

Actually returned today after someone I work with told me the rstrt is under new management. Turns out actually, this is partially true. The woman who owned Caliente (now closed) in downtown Des Plaines is the new manager. The story is in the Des Plaines Journal paper. The owner is the same. She may make a play to buy it in the future, according to the article. However, as of this date - and much to my intestinal track's dismay - the food remains the same. The chicken and pork are cooked the the same, nasty, overly peppered red sauce, and the steak is an unappetizing off-color gray with almost no taste but the laden fatty chunks. Not good. I got duped again by this place. You know what they say about "fool me once..." If the new manager wants to affect a REAL change, SCRAP the whole menu and start over! This place is the ideal candidate for an extended episode of "Restaurant: Impossible". Never again. They get an extra star because the guys behind the counter are nice.

Every once in awhile, when I crave a burrito I'll stop in here. Never a disappointment. The burrito is huge and fairy cheap. I've also tried the torta and very satisfying. Highly highly recommend.

Great tacos always hit the spot are are made fresh to order. I order the steak tacos every time. Comes with two delicious salsas. I also enjoy their guacamole. The restaurant is very cute and inviting, and the employees are always friendly. Good, local place.

WHAT A JOKE!!! Don't GO HERE--this is NOT MEXICAN Food---they hardly give you any meat on your burrito--it's all RICE! PHONEY's!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Heck I got more meat off the food cart in MEXICO--DISGUSTED!!

I have never been disappointed after leaving Taco Village. They are friendly and the place is super clean. They have this massive burrito challenge with all the winners and losers pictures posted on the wall. I recommend the steak tacos with cilantro.

  • AJ R.

I have frequented here on and off mostly because I love the ricter sauce (super hot) and love that they put rice in the burrito. They are pretty fast and super clean. A few problems I think that are easily remedied. 1. They vegetarian burrito doesn't include guacamole or avocado. If I'm gonna spend the same price on a burrito without meat as one with meat costs I think it should at least include some guac or avocado 2. The other day I went in and ordered a veggie burrito and some chips and salsa (which are free if you eat in). The associate forgot that I said the order was to go. So after he rings me out he chases me down and says sorry sir I forgot to charge you for the chips and salsa. Now I have no problem paying for to go chips because I knew I would be charged when I ordered them. I DO have a problem however with an employee chasing me down to charge me for an item that is free when eaten in the restaurant that HE forgot to ring me out for. I also had one of their frequent eater punch passes. That employee should've just let it go since it's free in store anyway. Management should consider addressing this to the staff and I'll revise my review. I'm still unsure if I'm coming back hence the 3 stars.

In the brand new strip mall on River Rd & Rand, bookend with Dunkin Donuts, Taco Village sprouted up with a bold proclamation in its windows, seemingly block letters cut out of paper and taped to a window next to the storefront: "Great Mexican Food." Well, I'll be the judge of that with my benchmark steak burrito test. With a name like Taco Village, I expected it to be so-so. I am happy to report it's definitely better than Nacho Mama, but it doesn't rank among my favorites either like Taco Burrito King, La Pasadita or even El Pueblito near Skokie. I stopped in to grab a quick take-out burrito. Their menu board is professional and clean, very easy to read without any distracting graphics like some places. I ordered the regular sized burrito. Inside, the place is pretty spacious, with lots of seating available and not much of a lunch crowd just 15 minutes before noon. You can fill up your own sauces at a little condiment area next to the pickup area, along with wedges of fresh cut limes, salt, pepper, etc. In what took about 1 minute, I had my burrito in a bag, ready to go! That was fast service all right. I came home and was pleased with the size for the $6 price. While not as massive as a TBK king-size burrito, it is still a filling meal all by itself, no side dishes needed. Still, I can't give it 4 stars since it left some things to be desired. While the steak inside was OK, it was more like boiled beef than grilled steak, which would have struck a home run with me. The sauces lacked punch. The green mild salsa was, well.... too mild and lacking any zip. The red (hot) sauce was not hot in my opinion. It seemed to be more acidic than hot and I'd be happier with the Taco Bell hot sauce in the plastic squeeze packets. Taco Village is actually part of a local chain out of the SW-side of Chicago, but I don't hold that against them. It's a decent place with good service, but leaves a little to be desired. I'd come back try other things but do BYOS (bring your own sauce) next time.

The food here is good. Not great, but really good. The outstanding thing is the bright cleanly appearance. And the appointments are really stylish for a taqueria. Service is first rate. Prices are a bit steep for what you get, but it beats the heck out of the place accross the street.

    (3)
  • David G.

Okay, so I decided to give Taco Village a second chance, it's been nearly a year since my first and only visit. My previous review stands, the food just isn't good. I ordered a Torta this time around and the steak had chunks of fat on it, the flavor was lacking and it left me feeling sick. The beans and rice continue to disappoint, as does the Horchata. It doesn't help that my Torta plate and Horchata cost over $11.00. Sorry Taco Village, I tried. I'll be avoiding this restaurant at all costs for now on.

  • Brittany S.

Walking in gives a good contemporary atmosphere with some Chicago and Mexican decorations on the ordering stand and on the walls. I wanted to try something basic, so I chose the regular taco combo (steak as my meat) with rice and beans plus a drink. The tacos were good and I enjoyed the beans! Unfortunately, I cannot say the same about their rice. It's OK, but I feel like it's not cooked all the way-- as if some pieces in every bite had some al dente or harder rice (which isn't good, I should know-- I'm Asian and rice is a staple haha). But other than that the taste is still good. What I love about this place is the refill station... which includes Horchata! In the free refills station?!!!! Best thing ever!

Dont go unless you speak spanish. This staff will take all landscapers first and they have a side menu. I as a customer will not take this. Discrimination has not place in the service industry!

Not sure if they changed management recently but the food was not as good as before. The service was slow with only three people in line. Will not be going back...which is a shame cause the food was so good before.

This is my favorite Mexican restaurant in Des Plaines. The food is really fresh and high quality. The red sauce is to die for. Please make it back to the way it was. It's a bit too spicy now.

Placed an order over the phone today to be picked up. The woman I spoke to on the phone read it back to me and it was correct. Sent my coworker to pick up our order and bring it back to the office. Upon review of our order we realized we were missing a chicken taco salad and a steak taco salad, but had a pork taco salad we did not order. So I called Taco Village and explained that our order was mixed up and I would be coming back to get the correct salads. This time I went back to Taco Village with the incorrect salad and to get the correct salads. Instead of getting an apology for the mix up, I encounter the woman with whom I spoke to over the phone. She wants to argue about the fact that "whoever placed the order on the phone never ordered one steak and one chicken salad". But that wasn't enough. She then wants to tell me that I did have the correct salad and what I was returning had chicken on it and not pork (didn't look like chicken to me). No matter what the problem was she wanted to argue and make it seem that it was our fault the order was wrong. Whatever the reason for the mix up they need to remember that the customer is always right. In this case this customer was right and she screwed up. She kept saying, "just remember for next time you order". What makes her think there will be a next time? We will never order from Taco Village again! And by the way..... the food is just so-so. Steak is tough and chewy.

Enchiladas with Mole sauce. The beef was juicy. The Mole sauce had a nice flavor with a hint of cinnamon. The rice was pretty good. It had a good amount of flavor. The beans were good, they were cooked just right. I also tried a pork taco. The pork was very tender and juicy. The pork was full of flavor. It was clean inside with a nice amount of pictures on the walls. The people were friendly. They greeted everyone that walked in with a "Hello". I will return to try some of the other items on the menu.

If you are hungry for Mexican, this is the place to go! The portions are quite generous :-) My first test for good Mexican is the rice and beans - I know it seems so simple but many places just don't get it right. Taco Village had some of the best rice and beans I've ever had. I had the steak tacos and my husband had a steak burrito - both were quite tasting and overflowing with ingredients. The sauces are all made fresh and if they have tamales on their special menu I highly recommend giving them a try! My husband is now a huge fan of the rice milk they have as well. But anything with sweetened condensed milk in it is usually pretty darn good. The place was very clean and the staff was extremely friendly.

This place has some great food. Seriously we love this place but we tried to get a burrito after the hawks game on Saturday night. and it was closed. We had called and they said it was open till 11 and on the door it says 11 but they had the door locked at 1040 with workers still inside. Very disappointing.

I'd come back. We were greeted as we walked in with a friendly 'hello' and ordered our tacos with ease. Since we ate there, we received complimentary chips and (awesome) salsa which was a nice bonus. I ordered pork tacos and my gf ordered spicy chicken; I'd get the chicken next time, the kick was better on her tacos, don't get me wrong the pork was still delicious. I'm not a refried beans guy, but I ate half of my serving of them for what that might be worth. It's BYOB so for the next visit I will definitely take advantage of that and compliment my tacos with cervesas; this past time I had the Lime Jarritos soda..still refreshing. I reccommend this place to those in need of quick, authentic mexican food.

Fun place with their giant burritos. I ordered the Rio Grande (18"), it was pretty good. The place is clean, the bathrooms are spotless, and the staff is friendly. Order the EL Jefe (5LB burrito) for the burrito challenge. Frank Campeglia (The Food Club)

I had the "Taco Plato" which iz thres tacko'z with your choice of meat (I chose 2-Carne Asada and 1-chicken), as well as rice & beanz. Restaurant was clean (especially the bathroom. Which iz rare in a Mexican restaurant! But anyway...). Staff was whateverz. Pricez were a bit high (for my broke arss). Presentation of food was killer! Taste was tasty...but then...I came across a HUGE piece of fat, that reminded me of a fetus, and I about lost it! I'm not sure if I'll come back here, but if I do, I wont be ordering the Carne Wilson Asada. Just saying!?

This is my new go-to place for quick Mexican food. Now, let's not kid ourselves here. This isn't your fancy-schmansy restaurant. It is a simple, no fuss joint. Still, they cook most of the food right in the open kitchen when you order. So the food is very fresh. My favorite is the Taco Plato, and I often order it with lengua (tongue). It is not on their big menu board, but it is on one of the many posters they tacked on all over the restaurant (they need to update their menu if this is going to be permanent). There's also fish taco and shrimp taco that are not on the menu. I like the tacos because they serve them with onions and cilantro, no filled with the standard shredded iceberg lettuce and other nasty stuff that you would typically find at Taco Bell. I have no issues with the quality of the meat, although it could use a bit more seasoning. I can also do without the standard, Americanized rice and refried beans. Unlike another reviewer here, I kinda like chunky guac. It means that it is hand made and didn't come out of some mechanized process. So I have zero complaints about the guac. I've also been to their new breakfast buffet offered on weekends. It is OK, nothing spectacular, but no major complaints either. You get what you pay for. Considering the amount of money I spent, and the quality of food that I got, Taco Village is one of my regular places to go to get good Mexican food.

When I saw the 20" burrito that costs $ 14.95, but is free if you can eat it in 10 minutes, I laughed and passed on the offer. It was so freaking huge that I can't imagine how the two customers in the "Hall of Fame" ate the thing in the allotted time. Since I wasn't up to the burrito challenge, I opted for their taco plate, choosing chicken, pork stew and steak tacos. The pork stew was fabulous, the spicy chicken was very tasty and the steak taco was pretty good. The spicy rice and beans complemented the deliciousness of the tacos. To wash it all down, I had Horchata, which was accented with just the right amount of vanilla and cinnamon. Carrots and peppers were complimentary as well as cinnamon/sugar tortilla chips for dessert. The restaurant was very clean, including the restrooms, and the staff was very friendly and helpful. I'll definitely be coming back for more. I love Mexican food and Taco Village hit all the right notes.

My go to burrito place around me! First stopped in about a year ago and now head there at least once a month. Reasons why: - The place is clean - Food tastes great - Guys behind the counter are always friendly - Its affordable - Most of all its consistent, i know i am getting a good burrito every time i go there

I have to say, I was pretty thrilled when I walked into Taco Village and was greeted with an enthusiastic "Hello!" from the guys behind the counter. Matt and I get fast food Mexican probably once every two weeks, and while our typical choice is El Famous, if we're close to my parents house we will run into Taco Village. Their food always tastes fresh to me, and, while not as spicy as I like my Mexican, the sauces they offer are tasty with the right amount of heat. That, on top of the AWESOME service, is why I really hope this place sticks around. SUPER BONUS: after you place your order, they offer you sopapillas to snack on while you wait! They anticipated my love of snacks!

Yum Yum, gimme some! Love it! Pleasantly surprised. When this placed opened I thought, "does this area need another Mex restaurant?" Silly me, wrote it off as a Burrito King kinda place without even trying. Months later, went to Taste of Des Plaines and decided to give Taco Village booth a try. We fell in love with the both the steak taco and steak burrito gordita. With the additional incentive of 15% off coupon from the fest, we visited this week and were blown away by the quantity, freshness and cleanliness of the place. I had enchiladas, 2 beef and 1 steak. The two with red sauce and 1 with mole. I should mention I don't care for most moles after being spoiled by trips with my Mexican dad to Nuevo Leon in the 80s, so I was guarded. I was pleasantly surprised to find the mole quite tasty and not too hot. My partner had the milanesa plato and was overwhelmed by the quantity and taste for the price of the meal - very good value here. The proprietor (? or operating manager) of this one was on site and the time and proceed to give me a detailed run down of certain menu items, very pleasant man. Our standbys in the area have been el Mexico or Cancun City. This had restaurant quality food in a clean, quasi fast-food atmosphere. I will be back again and again if the quality doesn't diminish over time. Bonus point for breakfast at any time. I often make eggs and chorizo at home for dinner and nice to know I can get a fix here when I don't have ingredients on hand .

Stopped in for lunch on a Friday and ordered the steak burrito plate. The steak had a lot of gristle and lacked seasoning, they fill the burrito with rice and beans and very little steak. The sides of rice and beans were OK but the burrito already had enough in it. The green and red sauces were very acidic (too much lime?)both lacked any favor or fire to me. The place is clean and the staff seemed friendly but the food lacked the flavor of Mexican food. I would not go back.

I wanted to like this place, but sorry. Not good. Beans are terrible - and if you are ordering a bean burrito that's not a good start. Cheese is meh... Nachos were not a happy time either - again the beans and cheese were yuck. makes me wish I spent $4 at Taco Bell instead!

  • Amanda C.

Even mediocre Mexican food is still good... Pros: - They give A LOT of their condiments! I like not having to be chincey with sauce and lime! - Nice, friendly service. - Very clean! - You can order carry out on the phone... Nice. - Lots of meat in the tacos! Cons: - Expensive compared to other, similar places... And you don't even get chips and salsa! Whatttttt? - Chicken tacos were alll dark meat :( No me gusta nada! - Were not even close to the best tacos I've ever had. I still enjoyed it, just not a lot... I'd never go back :/

Taco Village is hands down my go to mexican place in Des Plaines. The dudes behind the counter are friendly and are fast too. I wouldn't give a five star review if the food was crap. The taco plato is the tits. Get it with onions and cilantro, you wont leave hungry. My girlfriend gets the enchiladas with mole sauce and she loves it. I'm not a mole guy but she cant get enough of it. Still thinking about doing the el jefe, but I admit I'm not man enough just yet.

My experience with Taco Village consists only of my husband picking up an order to go on his way home from work. However we like it enough for him to stop in once every two weeks or so. Prices may be a little high for this type of restaurant but they certainly make up for it with quantity! As others have mentioned before, the burritos are giant so be prepared to share! I always go for a couple of their hard shell tacos which are super tasty but more than a little messy to eat!

I have seen this place a couple of times while stopping at the Dunkin Donuts, so I decided to give it a try this weekend. One of the things that had jumped out at me the first time I saw this place was that it was open early in the morning. There are not too many places that I know of in the area that serve Mexican breakfast food, so that is definitely a plus for this restaurant. I ordered the Vegetarian Breakfast burrito. I was surprised to find out that it did not come with egg, so I asked them to add egg. The burrito came out to $6.50 before tax and it was definitely huge. If you have someone to share it with, I would recommend just ordering one and cutting it in half, unless you do not care too much about putting on the pounds. All in all the burrito was good, but I cannot say it had a WOW factor to it. Some recommendations to the owner/manager: - The green and red sauce are too mild for your Mexican friends. I would recommend that you guys offer some hotter sauces. - The Horchata cups are pretty small for $1.59. I would recommend larger cups for the same price, especially for those customers that are getting their food to go and do not have the opportunity to get free refills, if available. - Add a health conscious section to your menu, such as cooking your meal in Olive Oil, Black Beans, Egg Whites, etc. Mexican food can be healthy too, given the right ingredients. Compliments on the establishment: - The place is clean, partly due to the fact that it just went through a grand opening. Keep up the clean look. - The staff is friendly.

A legit Mexican restaurant. Everything was fresh, the burrito was good, and they do a lot of things that a lot of other Mexican places don't do, like give free chips and salsa, have sopapillas, and have Horchata at the free refill station. What a deal. Plus you have to love any restaurant with an eating challenge. We even talked to the owner, who was a really nice guy.

Good amount of food for the money and specials every day of the week. The food is filling, but I think it could use some more spicing up. If it wasn't for the lack of spice, I'd give 4 stars.

I remember passing by this restaurant when it opened, but was a bit shy to actually try it, because i have thought that it would probably taste the same as other mexican food, but when i came to try it for the first time, omg.....it's so delicious, its not salty like the other mexican food around here serves, and there's a bunch of different things you can order here. I love this place to much, i think i must've gone there like 10 times already since April! Definitely worth a try!!

My boyfriend and I went here because I had a groupon. It was good! The staff was really nice! I had a burrito (it was huge) good. My boyfriend had tacos. I think the pork. We had some kind of mexican drink. Can't remember what it was called, but it was tasty. I would recommend Taco Village. Next time we are in the area, for sure we would go.

Food is fresh and good. If you are going to run an all you can eat taco special then I should be able to order as many as I know I can eat. I don't need to be treated like a child and forced to eat the rice and beans too. Eat the 3 tacos AND the rice and beans and you get 1 taco at a time after that. Back and forth to the counter each time you want another one with slighty more attitude from the guys behind the counter each time.

On the way to dance practice, I drop by here to pick up dinner. The place is so clean inside, though it's a bit noisy from the fans and radio going. The staff are all very friendly and nice. Even if their English isn't the greatest, they do try their best to communicate with you and make sure that they got your order right. (Just don't be short with them because of some of their difficulties with English. I mean, obvious common sense here!) The portions here are HUGE. They are not skimpy at all! I can never finish a Gordito burrito, their smallest size, by myself. It is filled to the brim with toppings, and all is flavored very well. All of the meats and salsas are good, and there is a variety to pick from both of them. If burritos or tacos aren't your thing, they have other food, too. I'm not sure as to the authenticity of their food, since I'm not Spanish/Latina. (I'm completely German, which, believe me, I can tell you A LOT about our food...but I digress.) However, one thing I do know: This food is DAMN tasty, and you are definitely getting your money's worth out of it. They also have a member card, which they will kindly explain to you its use. After a certain number of purchases, you get a free taco, I believe. However, they will explain it to you. All in all, I love this place for a quick dinner. (I get a very nice amount of carbs and protein from each meal here, which gives me a nice energy rush for dance practice!) I always drop in to order my food carry-out, but the atmosphere is nice, so it wouldn't be bad at all to eat in there.

I give this place three stars because three is average, right? It is an entirely average taqueria among the dozens that are already in Des Plaines. The menu is actually a little bit pricier than comparable taquerias, so I have to deduct for that. Why not just go to the better tasting El Famous on Lee? But the place is clean and bright and the staff is nice. One point definitely in its favor is that they are BYOB. I still prefer the venerable family owned Mexico Restaurant that is pretty much a Des Plaines institution by now.

Compared to similar restaurants....especially in the surrounding areas....this is some of the best. The guys that work here are awesome....they always say hello when you walk in. The restaurant is clean and there's usually some kind of sports playing on the tvs. I don't think I have ever been in there and not been given some kind of sample to snack on while I waited for my order. And the portions are ridiculous. lol Always have leftovers. :)

About Taco Bell

Taco Bell is a haven for Mexican delicacies such as tacos, quesadillas, burritos, nachos, and other specialty items. Owned by Yum! Brands, Inc. Taco Bell is one of the fastest growing American chains of fast food restaurants. The restaurant operates from 7,072 different locations which are mostly run by independent franchisees and licensees.

The background story of Taco Bell is interesting and inspiring for budding entrepreneurs. The fast-food brand is the brainchild of Glen Bell, who started his first food venture as a hot dog seller in San Bernardino, California. The year was 1948. After witnessing long queues outside a Mexican restaurant called Mitla Café across the street, Bell saw the opportunity and demand for hard-shelled Tacos. He reverse-engineered the recipe and later started selling Tacos and called the venture Taco-Tia.

Later, the name changed from Taco-Tia to El Taco. Eventually, Glen Bell sold the company to his partner and opened the first Taco Bell in Downey in 1962. By 1964, the restaurant also got its first franchise in Torrance. The 100th Taco Bell restaurant was opened by 1965. PepsiCo acquired Taco Bell from Glen Bell in 1978 and the restaurant brand is currently a subsidiary of Yum! Brands which looks after the restaurant business of PepsiCo.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
