Hubby Steve and I decided to try Garden Family Saturday for dinner (1/4/14). It was not the best restaurant experience we have had..... It was a little before 4:00 PM when we stopped in for an early dinner. There were just a few people in there, nice and quiet. We got seated right away, given menus, and drink orders taken. So far so good - - but it went pretty much downhill from there. We decided to try their Fried Chicken and see what it was like. It's made fresh to order and the wait is 15-20 minutes, but that was no problem. We both ordered the Quarter Chicken dinner; Steve's all white, mine all dark, with mashed potatoes and chicken gravy. The waitress brought Steve's salad and my Chicken Shells soup out right away. Steve said his salad was okay, fresh and the dressing had a nice flavor. My soup was another story - - it tasted like Campbell's canned soup, with large shell pasta thrown in. And the shells were cooked to the point of total mushy consistency. I was NOT real happy with it. I sipped most of the broth but the shells were left behind. When our chicken meals came out, the orders were HUGE, which we figured out when we checked the ticket - - she had put down Half Chicken dinners instead of Quarter Chicken. Oh well, we could always take a couple pieces each home with us (which is what we did). As for the chicken - - it was nice and hot, and very crispy on the outside, but not overcooked. However, the seasoning was - - well, there just wasn't really any. The coating was fairly bland, and the meat inside tasted like it had not been seasoned at all. A bit of salt/pepper helped, but it was just overall so bland! The mashed potatoes and gravy were okay, with a nice flavor. Steve ordered a root beer to drink with his meal, and the waitress said "Okay" and brought him his drink. One taste and he knew it wasn't root beer - - turns out it was Dr. Pepper! He went ahead and drank it, because it was getting closer to dinner hour and we knew there would be more people coming in there, and we wanted to finish up and get back home. Our waitress came back by and asked him if he "wanted another Dr. Pepper" and he said no thanks, but that proved that she knew it was what she brought him. Would have been nice if it had been what he ordered! The waitress packaged up our leftover chicken and we paid the bill and left. And, I really don't think we will be back any time soon. It's not a BAD place, but we were just not real impressed with the food and the overall experience. And that's too bad, because the waitress was nice and everyone else seemed to be also. We will probably try it again someday, but I don't think we will be getting their fried chicken ever again.

Best place for breakfast in Decatur. Inexpensive, great food, great portions, and great service. The people-watching doesn't get better.

Went there for breakfast and ordered the French Toast. Good stuff. Like home cooking....with lots of elderly people...the place was packed with'em. Great place to eat!

I stopped in here with my family on a road trip. Though a diner would be a good break from Taco Bell and Miky Ds. Everything seemed fine at first, a little crowded, our waitress wasn't overly nice, no big deal, ordered and then it went down hill from there. My wife ordered a water to drink, she ONLY drinks water, OJ every once in a while if she feels sick, the waitress rolled her eyes!! I ordered a Ice tea with lemon, drinks came and we ordered food. Nothing unusual, after we ordered food it took forever before our food came out and both of our drinks had been empty for almost as long. My wife found a hair in her food and when we said something to the waitress she acted like we planted it there to get a free meal. Needless to say it was a bad experience and I don't recommend it.
