We chose to come here to wait out a storm before heading back. The service was ridiculous. There were 2 entrances so we didn't know what side to wait at. We finally sat down. Seats were uncomfortable. It took the servers a while to get our water. My husband had to track down the waiter to order our food. The menu was very confusing. Too much on their menu.... They even bad spinach dip and some pineapple grilled chicken entre at a Mexican restaurant? The salsa was pretty spicy, but good. Chips and quesa dip was good. Then we had to track them down again to see when our food would be served. There was not many people in the restaurant so I don't know why it was taking so long. The food was actually pretty good, but I was so turned off by the service.

My gf and I come here frequently. We always get the shrimp soup, and something else. It's always great we love this place.

Ground beef is too salty. Tastes like they cook it with salt instead of seasoning. Yuck. Not coming back. Done.

Good food but the service makes it unbearable to go. Very ungrateful and just want you in and out so they can get their money. They have (maybe not anymore haven't been there in a long time) that read "servers work for tips". My brother, who is a server and good tipper, went there and didn't leave a tip because he said the service was so bad he wasn't going to leave one and they chased him out and asked for their tip. When the new mexican restaurant opened "Camino Real" I swore off Elrey.

Slow service and poor quality Mexican. It is really hard to mess up mass produced food like this. Also made my husband ill. Never again.

Rather awful. Not much of a choice anywhere in Clinton so you may have to choose this one but maybe a pizza would be better.

Let's start with a quick low down on Clinton-- This is the town I was raised in, and lived for most of my life. Currently sitting at 7k+ residents, Clinton is far from a major city, which allows me some leeway on the traditional rating system. Now that we are on the same page, El Rey's is currently the only restaurant in town that specialized in Mexican food. They have several beers on draft (XX dark-bud, bud light and miller light) and make a pretty decent margarita. The food can be a bit....greasy, under/over salted, generally bad tasting, or vomit/diarrhea inducing, but once you get a feel for the menu you learn what and what not to order. Whatever you do, don't touch the tortillas at the bottom of that Alambre, seriously, you'll regret in a couple hours. Overall, really not a bad little place to eat, good for birthdays and to meet friends at for a burrito, and they appreciate regulars.

The food isn't amazing, but it's okay. Really the service frustrates me sometimes - just isn't consistent. Sometimes I feel like I'm ruining someone's day by showing up - other times it's fine. I only go if friends pick it out.

We enjoy eating at El Rey regularly. Its a good place for Mexican, especially considering that its in such a small town. Good service, fresh salsa, and the food is yummy.

Went here after a day at the lake. 5 of us. Chips and Salsa were brought promptly, and were good. Warm chips. Service was good, drinks kept full. Our food was average Mexican. I had taco and enchiladas. Others had tacos, quesadillas, and enchiladas. Quesadilla was really good. Pretty good overall

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
