Well, my boyfriend swore up and down about this place and I just wasn't that impressed with it to be honest. I've eaten plenty a taco in my day and these just didn't do anything for me. I ordered a torta de milanesa (it was my cheat meal!) and an agua de horchata. We also ordered the chips and guac to go with our meal. The torta was just ok. It needs that special combination of sour cream, beans, and avocado to make it magical and this just didn't have it. The guac was fine but overpriced for a mexican restaurant. The horchata. Oh boy. Tasted like a packet of horchata mix mixed with water. Yuk! We'll probably be back because he's such a fan but I'm just not that into it. Head over to El Faro in Little Village or Aguascalientes for some good mexican fare instead.

I Watched a waitress drop the lid to the chiles, then with out cleaning the lid placed it back on the chile. Not clean or acceptable.

This place isn't the most ground breaking/earth shattering place on earth, but I keep coming back. They have a decent variety of food and are open late.

I give them one star, because I can't give them a 0!!! My husband and me when to eat there because was the 4th of July and nothing were open. These are our complains, my husband asked for a beer and they served warm!! when he asked if they can change it for another, the waitress said very rude, Oh well if you want an other beer you have to pay for it. OMG we did. We ordered tacos, and the meat was grease old and cold, and we ended being sick. Never going back!

Food here is kind of so so. I like the Cheese Quesadilla with Chorizo, the gorditas and some of their tacos. I still go there once in a while. The place is not very clean at times. So bring some hand sanitizer people!!

Good food, fast and friendly service, and open late also till 1am Mon-Thur / Till 4 Fri-Sat and 2am Sun so I am driving around looking for a Taco place that is open as I didn't feel like cooking tonight, as I see the open sign in the front window so I flip a bitch as I was going the wrong direction I get inside and no one say anything about them being close to closing time or anything, at least not till I try to order Carne Asada Meal then she says let me see if they will make that still, oh I say what time do you close she says 1am so I say ok let just get a couple Tacos then and I can get them to go, if you are about to close and she says no problem stay and eat your food so I get a drink and some chip and wait for my Tacos and Ceviche I ordered up, and I try some of both the salsas on my chips they are both good in there own right but gonna go with the Verde for my Tacos the food was hot and damn good I will be going back to get me some Carne Asada and to see if they make a good Mole sauce

With so many Mexican places along Cermak in Cicero and Berwyn- many of which are very good, Meson does a good job at offering a comfortable place to sit down and eat a cheap, casual meal in comfort. The same can't be said about many of the other places in this area- all because most of the rest are either a bit more formal with their set-up, or are small taco stands with counter service and a couple of tables. They also offer a pretty large menu of different items- all well-priced for what you get. Nothing that I can tell is done absolutely better than any other place, meaning, I don't think they are known for one special thing- but it is all pretty tasty. They do good business, and for me, this is a good sign that what they do is pretty good- or at least pretty good for the price.

Picked up some Chicken Soup on my way to Salsa class. I didn't have time to eat it before class so I left it in the car. When I returned to my car it smelled so yummy inside it was hard for me to wait until I got home to eat the soup. There was more chicken in my soup than you get on a Popeye's two peice dinner and it was packed up with limes, tortillas and peppers. So delicious! The next morning my car still smelled like the soup and I wanted it for breakfast.

I grew up eating El Meson. When I visit, I always get a gordita since I can't find a decent one in the burbs. It is very authentic. Their tacos are served like they should be: meat, cilantro and onion, that's it. So yea, give it a try.

No no no no no!!!!!! Boring bland tacos, stale rice, didn't bring our sodas and nor did they bring us our silver wear so we could eat our stale rice. I am not Asian! I do not eat with my fingers! No offense to the Asians since I am honorary FOB. I will not be coming to this place every again!

I'm an easy going reviewer that gives rating based on the overall experience. I'm not going to be especially harsh if a place has a higher reputation and expect more like some of these other people. I will say that I was in cicero for an event and was craving some good mexican food, the czech place i would have gone to was closed because hey were putting on a haunted house event i asked a local about a place to get some good food and they recommended taqueira el meson saying it was the best local place with authentic food you get free chips and two kinds of salsa to start i was pleased by the good service and noticed there were a few families dining and they seemed like they were enjoying This is a place that you can get some authentic Pozole, which I haven't had since I was in Mexico, they did not disappoint for this, the chicken soup, which reminds me of my dear old dad's soup, that I still make to this day, the only difference is, this place adds Chayote to give it that authentic flavor i also enjoyed some tacos: league, chorizo, alambra, suedero (*sp) the soup came with a plate of rice, veggies, tortillas, onions and some other veggies, i forgot what they were they also serve alcohol, which is a nice bonus, about 20 different kinds of tequila, and some dark liquors, they also serve beer and a small amount of wine I also want to add that the waitress was a stunning young lady that looks like she would be well suited for a modeling assignment, she was very captivating the prices were very reasonable and i'm sure i'll be back

I live by El Meson and I've been there more than once b/c it is so close but they never fail to disappoint me. They ALWAYS mess up my orders. The service is bad- there is one young waitress who never gets anything right..she even messed up all of our drinks once (3 to be exact). Another time I ordered for pick up and their rice was stale. I don't recommend at all.

This place is fantastic!!! I have been here so many times after a Sox game... and this is the most authentic Mexican food I have ever had!!!! It is sooo good! The pickled veggies are right on the table and sooo yummy! There is so much to choose from... but I always get tacos. You can get the full entree or just the tacos or burrito etc. The chips & salsa are good!!! It looks like a little like a diner kind of... but we were drinking coronas. It is great! Love it!!! Some of the best mexican food, nothing fancy - just great food!!!

Me and my husband love this place, as do some of my friends. It is a very authentic Mexican restaurant that has all kinds of special plates that come with some kind of entree with rice, beans and tortillas, soups (hearty enough to be your meal), gorditas, tacos, tortas...and the list goes on and on. They have the pickled carrots, cauliflower, jalepenos and jicama mixture at the table and also two salsas, one red and one green. They then serve you a basket of free tortilla chips to dip in these sauces or you can order guacamole which is pretty good here, that is what I usually start with. I am partial to their Carne en su Jugo (directly translated to meat in it's juices). It is a soup filled with carne asada steak pieces, bacon and pinto beans. They then top it with radish slices, chopped onion and cilantro and sliced of avocados. And served with a side of chiles de arbol (little dried peppers that you can cut into your soup) and tortillas for dipping. It is SO good!! Their gorditas are also very good, I get mine stuffed with poblano peppers and chihuahua cheese...MMMM!! Yummy! This is a really good place to go for either late night eating or breakfast/lunch...that's when we usually go.

This is a good place to go to at night when everyone's closed. I am not crazy about their food. It isn't anything out of the ordinary.

Walked in for food...waited 28 minutes for 2 tacos, 2 gorditas and guacamole. The food was less than mediocre. Severs were rude and dismissive when asking about our food order. Would not recommend!!

I started coming here back when I was living in Lyons (2001-2007). I always got the same dish every time I went (3 taco dinner). I always got that because it seemed so simple to get. At the time, don't know how it is now, it was decently priced and, it was good!!!! The one good memory of that place was back in October 2003. Cubs just was the Divisional part of the playoff and were heading to the NLCS. after the game, family and friends and I were leaving and as I waited in the car a drunk dude was walking down the sidewalk, drunk, and cheering on how the Cubs won. I got to say, it's something I can talk about for a long time. It's been over 7 years since I've been there, but if I ever visit Cicero again, I'll get my family members and go there again.

Went here with my mother and my sisters for a Sunday morning breakfast. We have been to PLENTY of places like this but my mom's friend swore by the food. We get there and seat ourselves and a waitress promptly comes by. Granted we are all latinas however, it is obvious that spanish is a little complicated for my sisters and I. My mom had to order for more than half the table. I've been to places where the servers speak mostly spanish, however, they at least try to make it easier for non-spanish speakers. This one didnt. Slightly awkward. We waited a bit to get our food. I would say that it was on par with the other taquerias we have been too. Down side, my mom had to ask a completely different waitress to bring tortillas since our waitress was no where to be found. We also had to ask yet ANOTHER waitress to bring waters for the table. Our waitress didnt come by until we needed a box for the rest of our food. I had a steak torta which was well cooked. However, they just piled it on and I had to eat the majority of my torta with a fork off of my plate. We were almost done with our food by the time by mom got her tortillas to eat her meal. My sister ordered a chocolate liquado. It was EXTREMELY chocolatey to the point where it was a little over bearing. I would go here again but not on the regular. The service is horrible and the food is just ok.

I ordered the Chilaquiles con Huevos "Verdes o Rojos". The menu description is "Your choice of eggs over sliced corn tortilla and topped with our Green or Red sauce, ..." When it came there were no eggs. We flagged down the waitress and asked and she said it didn't come with eggs. But she would get an egg or meat or something else to put on it if I wanted. Asked again, she said it does not come with eggs. It wasn't until leaving that I saw the menu and description. Not cool. Not cool.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
