This has been my favorite Mexican place for almost a year now. In the future I will update if anything changes. The Good: They have a good amount of dishes some that are not too common, like Guidsado de Lengua that you get there. Basically they use what they have there to fill tacos, dishes, gorditas, etc. They cook many things in front of you. There is usually a lot of people and so the food is fresh because it gets turned over a lot. Dining area is very small, like 30 people and many times there is a line. I usually carry-out. Their tacos de lengua (beef tongue tacos) are made a bit different than other places. They have a reddish spicy tomato sauce. It's from a "guisado" (stew-like) dish. The taco has beans and rice in it as well. So good! We have also tried and liked Tacos Al Pastor, Puerco en Salsa Verde, Chicarrones, Tacos Carne Asada and all were very good and ordered regulary. Some "Cons": Now many people love their gorditas, but my family doesn't. The problem is not with the "stuffing", it's tasty and portions are good. The problem is the "doughy" part of the gorditas. They seem too thin, like if two tortillas were glue together and then stuffed. It's not bread-doughy like it should be. It's not the worst, but not to our taste. My uncle and many others love them though. The red Mole is not special and you could probably get a good or better Mole from your grocery store from "Dona Maria" brand. I also tried the "Guisado de Res" and it was similar to the Mole in my opinion. The Chile Rellenos are kinda bland for me. Cheese seems bland and the outer part as well. Keep in mind my mom makes killer Chile Rellenos so it's a tough act to follow. Another complaint is that sometimes our portions are huge, like sometimes the meat in the tacos is overflowing. But a few times we've gotten dinky portions, I don't know if it depends on the cooks who are serving or what. Once I went there and I didn't recognize any of the cooks and I got small portions. Still, this is my favorite place so far. On my credit card statement they come up as "El Faro" so I suspect they are also owned by the popular "El Faro", but I'm not sure and I have not been to El Faro. Everyone has different taste and if you give this place a try I hope you find something you like.

My favorite Mexican place in Chicagoland. I used to live across the street and got addicted then. Now I live back in Iowa but every time I am back in town I HAVE to stop here. My favorite thing to get is a gordita de chile relleno. Yum! Now I'm hungry.

Oh my geezie!!! I returned to Indio's last night and as usual, this place still kicks !@# This place is by far one of my favs. You can have just about everything here. My personal favs - rajas con queso, guisado de chicharron, and chorizo con papa. YUM!!! This place isn't fancy either and they don't need to be. Their food is just delicious.

This little restaurante has been one of my favorites places to eat. Usually I order to go because all the times is packed specially at lunch hour or dinner time. I tried almost their whole menu and everything is delicious! I recommend the frijol con queso gorditas and the costillas en salsa verde also and don't forgetc0 to ask for carrots in vinegar as a complement. Absolutely I recommend this restaurant.u p

The lines are too long the place is small and ordering is difficult. Waiting for your order is torture because it is so cramped. The food is good, real good, almost like home. The breakfast foods they serve are great and the prices are on target. Other places in the are tend to over charge. (-1* Cross contanination nightmare)

  • Amy A.

One of the best authentic Mexican restaurants I've been to. Great tacos and cheap! Had the al pastor, carne asada, and chile reano. Try a variety. I will be back. Try the bakery across the street for a cheap dessert.

Want some bomb a$$ Mexican food?!? Look no further because Indio does not disappoint. We've enjoyed grabbing Indio to go on multiple occasions and have never had a bad experience. Their salsa verde is the bombdotcom (yeah, I said it!) and their tortas de Milanesa (pollo) are amazing and so satisfying. Service is great. They get your order right and are very friendly! I usually don't crave Mexican food often (we eat it all the time at home) but I don't mind eating here frequently. Ps. The avocado is extra, but total worth it!

If your looking for the best authentic mexican restaurant , this is the place to go. There is not one food item that Isnt good , theres usually a line if you get to go, but this food is well worthy of the wait.

Been going to this place as a kid back when it was a little dive on 31st street in chicago. The owner would never let a kid go hungry if u had no money all he ask was u come back when u had it. One thing that has not changed is the food still awesome, and consistent. You can go still go on 31st, Cicero or 63rd street and the food is always great along with the service. Can't go wrong with anything on the menu. Best of all almost 30yrs later I'm taking my kids.

My family's favorite taqueria in Cicero. Its not a place to dine in--crowded, uninteresting decor. We typically just take out. But every time I fly back home, the family picks me up with Indios to eat on the way home. I love the gorditas! Frijoles y queso, pollo, rajas con queso--you name it I love it. My family also gets carne asada tacos, al pastor, and the Indios especial. Can't go wrong!

Honest review i been here many many times n the food is okay do not think u are going to get the best mexican food here the lenua (tongue tacos) are amaizing so is the tacos de rellas( cheeze n peppers) those are the best thing on the menu by far i had everything from carne asada, al pastor, pazole, dessert everything n its not that good the only good things on the menu if u want the best mexican food go to libertad in skokie check out that review to see what to get

If you want great Mexican food and a nice cozy environment this is the place to go. The gorditas de frijoles con queso are amazing also the lengua and asada I would recommend them all. Very reasonable prices I spend a lot less then I had expected and got very good portions of food. My only complain is that the chips are not complementary you have to make a side order of them. But it's not really big deal. Also the late night hours are great! It's a must TRY!

  • Diana D.

The best chicken tacos. Their gorditas are great. They have authentic guisados. One of my favorite Mexican restaurants.

  • Ruben R.

To tell you the truth man this place is garbage, they where awesome back in the day like gorditas so filled to the point they needed two wrapping papers , and now they are all skimpy and the raised the price on them as well , everything in the menu went up at least 1.50 -2 dollars, what happens when a brother gets up at 12:30 cause he works the night shift and wants to go eat breakfast and you have the waitress tell u yea uh breakfast is only till 11:30 , bitch this ain't mc Donald's , better get me some eggs n ham hoe , save your time and money and go to any of the other 22 Mexican restaurants in cicero

  • Mike Z.

Very authentic, home styled Mexican food. Delicious and flavorful. Though doesn't have the largest dinning area but I wouldn't care. Very fair price, very delicious food, highly recommend. I don't agree with lots of the 1 stars here. Keep in mind, this is not a place you go and the server will wipe your mouth after each bite for you. This is a FAMILY STYLED place. You go here to enjoy it's delicious food, not to have someone spoon feed you.(Except for those who still have their mom wipe their mouth every meal)

  • Moe D.

Good old Indio!! Never ever fails year after year I come back cause it's always delish!! Same owners on 63rd/Pulaski and just as good!! Keep up the good work!!

    (4)
  • Fabi G.

I love this place definitely a hidden gem. Great authentic Mexican food at the best price. They open early and close late, unfortunately closed on Sundays and the place should really expand. Every time i've gone it's very difficult to get a table and for that they lose a star.

    (4)
  • Mary J. C.

This is my go to spot when I want fast Mexican food... fast, consistent, and delicious. I don't eat there because its always packed so take out is usually the best option.

    (5)
  • Yasmine V.

I love this place great food!!! Same taste of the steak tacos and rice for 14 years I've been going there!!!!! Just wish they had chips and salsa for din in. Love it all!

    (5)
  • Ashley A.

Good authentic taco shop. Always friendly to me even though I stumble through my order! I get 3 tacos (chicken, steak, pork) with everything on them and the salsa is delicious. Will be crowded at lunch time. Cheap & quick! Yum!

    (4)
  • Adi M.

I love this place! Tacos de Rajas are the best! And they're big tacos too unlike at other places. It's A very small place but sometimes places who have more room just lose its touch and don't really focus on the quality of the food. So I prefer it that way.

  • Enzo P.

This place has the worst customer service In the world. I made sure with the server that i was ordering a skirt steak plate and she assured me it was yet when i received my meal it was not a Skirt steak meal rather a cheap version of wanna be skirt steak "bistec" I sent the plate back and the owner had the nerve to tell me that he was going to charge me for it because that was what i had ordered and if i didn't like it to leave the establishment and never come back. Save ur money and go elsewhere were customers are truly appreciated.

  • Damian P.

Not at all bad but on the flip side they be a three star. I have to be impartial here and say after ordering a burrito de carne asado, it was at best okay. I think that the hand must of slipped since it was just a tiny but salty. Good, mind you- but salty. I like the fact that you come in, order and you're out pretty quickly. But with no waiting area for you "ta go" crew, it might present a challenge since the joint holds at most 20 people, and that's being generous. By all means try them out see their glass case of various foods. Then make your own judgement, it's that simple. Of course the guisados looked incredibly tasty but my review can only go so far since I didn't get a Guisado. That's Spanish for stewed meats. Oh but it does look oh so fast, wait, of there is a next time, I will get the carne guisado with all the trimmings of a real Mexican dinner. Oh and by the way all the staff is Mexican. So it's extremely typical Mexican food, that is a Super plus!

  • Alondra M.

Love their gorditas!!!! Just dislike that its too small. But ive eaten here since i was little and i love it :)

    (3)
  • Duh V.

The tacos are on point, the joint is always packed so that's lettin' you know it's business in there. I went yesterday and a rather large Hispanic woman tried fighting me for a table and her 7 kids cut me in line.. I had to settle for KFC...

    (4)
  • Melody M.

The chicken is not good, i ordered a torta and the chicken was the left overs i did not like it at all :(

    (2)
  • Arturo M.

Food is always good ! Service is hit or miss, some servers are good and attentive some they just don't care for their customers. It will be nice to get a hello or how are you instead of ARE YOU READY TO ORDER or WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO HAVE .

    (1)
  • Chicagogirl 9.

I love there burritos & tacos . The only thing I don't like is that they only have lengua with tomatoe sauce. Hmm nonono for me. But everything else is great plus there delicious agua de horchata ! (:

    (5)
  • Carmen B.

Chicharron en salsa verde!! Awesome. Would give 4 stars if it weren't for the fact that dining in is a pain because if its crowded there's a long wait for a table. Definite need for expansion!

    (3)
  • Amy R.

most authentic Mexican place around! rather you order tacos, torta, gorditas (delicious), burrito or their dinner plates or caldo (also delicious) the food is always excellent, never changes, you can see the cooks so no mystery or funny business. Yes it's a whole in the wall we often order to go, but it's worth it. Its never empty and the service are great. I don't eat Mexican anywhere else.

I came in here recently expecting it to be similar to El Faro, as they are under the same ownership. Unfortunately, they don't offer the same vegetarian options as Faro :-( If I had known this I wouldn't have bothered coming here. It's just your typical small taqueria....just like the thousands you find all over the city/burbs. And if you think finding parking will be easy...good luck..parking on Cermak was a terrible in the afternoon (I was like a hawk driving in circles to find parking). I was pretty hungry and on a tight schedule so even though I was disappointed that they didn't have my vegetarian options I decided to try the steak burrito. It was decent. The red salsa was also ok ....and hey for $5.75 it hit the spot. Will I be back soon? Nah. I can get the same quality at any other taqueria and closer to home

    (3)
  • Liz P.

I was skeptical once I received my order seeing how I'm use to bigger portion sizes. However, once I got home and took a bite I was quite satisfied with the burrito taste and size. The torta de Milanese is definitely better, I recommend it. And the salsa was DELICIOUS! It's hard to find a spot that serves spicy salsa nowadays.

    (4)
  • David O.

I've been goin here for years!! This place has sum of the best tacos in chicagoland & their homemade red salsa is the only red sauce I'll ever eat lol! Didn't give 5 stars cuz they raised their prices a lil much :-(

    (4)
  • Diana D.

Indio has really good chicken tacos. The chicken is cooked with some good sauce it is not dry it is juicy. Their breakfast is the authentic mexican breakfast. Huevos a la ranchera, rice and beans so delicious. All of their guisados are great. Anything you eat is awesome.

    (4)
  • Esther K.

I frequent Indio for their tacos. First, the not-so-great: pretty bleak parking situation, tight seating, limited menu. And the great: the horchata, roasted jalapeños, and TACOS! Just really good tacos. You can see into the kitchen so you know your order is made to order, and the food comes out pretty quickly. A good spot to get your taco fix.

    (4)
  • Dan P.

I'm sure this stuff is made with miles of lard, but oh my god is it tasty. Not to mention affordable. I always get the tacos -- al pastor and carne asada -- and the quesadilla appetizer. Definitely a kept secret, the BEST Mexican street food in Cicero.

    (5)
  • David S.

Love the food. My standard order: their burrito and a side of the 3 inexpensive corn quesadillas But I have gotten (& was very happy with) the tortas, the tacos, the Chiles Rellenos and the Chicken Mole dinner (when it is on special). Table service is available, as is call ahead take out. Place is bright and simple, a take out counter and some laminate tables. Easy and good, nice people.

    (5)
  • Tony L.

Their Gorditas never fail. The ones with chile poblano and cheese (Rajas con queso) and Chorizo and papas are my favorite. They're always fresh and loaded, you will definitely need to use your fork and lick it clean. The service is fast and so friendly, I guess thats why I've been going there for over 13 years! Their Air conditioning is great on a hot day +++

    (5)
  • Jose V.

This place has a dish called "El Indio Especial" and it is delicious!!! The service is good. I just think the place is too small. If ur going to take out i recommend calling in the order for pick up. Otherwise ur just going to b left standing waiting and in the way of the servers.

    (4)
  • Paul M.

There's nothing inherently wrong or bad with the tacos I've had from Indio. But there's nothing that makes them stand out either. The chicken I had was ever so slightly spicy but, really, it was more chicken-y than spicy. And the beef was devoid of spice altogether which really surprised me. Service is fine - this is a hole in the wall, so it's pretty bare-bones, but that's okay. I think I still prefer Zacatacos.

    (3)
  • Fernando U.

The best food, but it's so small ! Such terrible talent being wasted... Tortas are the best along with thier horchatas. Would definitely recommend to anyone

    (4)
  • Rolando M.

Been coming here since it opened more than ten years ago. Had I written a review back then, it would easily be one for 5 stars, but over the years the quality of the meat and food has diminished. The products I've ordered (tacos and tortas) have increasingly been greesier over the years. The food is still decent and you really do get a lot for your buck, but the quality has definitely suffered over the years. Hopefully this trend stops soon, and they can at least maintina some consistency, but we'll see. For now, I'll stop by every now and then and eat there.

    (3)
  • Enigmalunar F.

Best place for tacos! Zacatacos is nothing compared to this place. The only problem with this place is that theres hardly parking, many people, and closed on sundays. But this place is your place to go for tacos, not only are they good but cheap also. The service is nice and friendly.

    (5)
  • Reuben H.

Great representation of what a taco stand/taqueria should be! Lines are always long, and that is probably because this place is known for loading up their tacos with a ton of meat. I find that most people that go here stick with the carne asada tacos. They do them well, and I can see why that is the case. My one gripe with this place is that you pretty much have to get your tacos to go- which can be fine sometimes, but other times makes me steer away from here since I don't want to eat cold tacos- nothing is more disappointing to me than a cold tortilla! Three-stars because it is definitely A-OK. I just have a hard time giving more than that for a place that I only get carne asada tacos from.

    (3)
  • Jose C.

Everytime I eat indio I'm happy why because the foods super good and u get your moneys worth.I had 2 tortas carne asada with everything. And a large horchata oyeah the red salas is the BEST

    (5)
  • Jason A.

Great tacos and fresh food made to order. The gorditas de frijol y queso are just spectacular. Their red sauce has just the right amount of flavor and not too spicy. This restaurant has a small dining room, but you won't wait long for a table.

    (4)
  • Esbeidy A.

wow! This is definitely a place to go when in cicero. I definitely recommend the torta de milanesa or gordita de rajas con queso. yyuuummmmmmm!!!! That place is always packed, it's better to order for pickup. The staff is fast and super friendly. The only thing that stinks is the parking... (there's never any). LOL!

    (5)
  • Elle M.

My kids love their tacos, while I prefer the gorditas and burritos. Actually, everything at Indio that we've ever tried has been good. It's really good food at very cheap prices. It is always busy so we try to go during off-peak hours. The place is pretty small so if you want to have a sit down dinner then avoid going there between 6-8pm. Another option is just to do take-out. This has to be one of the best taquerias around the Chicago area.

    (4)
  • Lisa D.

It's tiny and not very well decorated, the parking situation sucks but if you want a really good taco, torta or horchata then this is your place. This is where I learned NOT to eat the seeds inside roasted jalepenos. Tough lesson to learn, I thought I was going to die crying hot tears and sucking on ice cubes. Seriously...do NOT eat the seeds. (I'm so white) I met a guy in Mexico one year that I wound up dating, if you can call it that, for a bit. When I visited him he'd always drag me around from taqueria to taqueria trying to get me to try things I couldn't possibly have experimented in Chicago. I was like, "Vato, trabajo en Cicero. No me puedes ensenar nada no que tienen en Cicero." I'm sure he didn't know what I was saying because my Spanish sucks, or maybe he just didn't get it. At any rate...there really wasn't much in Morelia that I couldn't find at Indio. Maybe the intestines tacos...but I've never asked for them here. I'll be honest, I don't even know what they're called. Normally I order the pork torta and an horchata. I don't know why tortas are so much better than a regular sandwich, but they are. Get it take out, there are only a few tables.

    (3)
  • Sara M.

They probably have the best tacos around this area its always crowded and its small so best for take out

    (5)
  • Bob D.

I've tried almost everything, tacos, tortas, burrios, dinner plates, gorditas mole horchata, jamaica and they have all been delicious! The food has that "at home taste" like if your mom made it (if your latino/Mexican whatever) They put lettuce and tomato on the tacos instead of the cilantro and onion I'm not sure why but it's pretty good and something to keep in mind in case you don't like lettuce or tomato . In short Delicious food reasonable prices the only cons aren't food related, the place is small , long lines and the bathroom is somewhere in the back and a bit awkward to go to those are really the only reason that hold me back from giving it a 5 star a must try.

    (4)
  • Renato M.

  • Pablo M.

The tacos are great especially el pico de gallo taco. You cant go wrong with any of their dinner plates. The restaurant is a bit small so you might have to wait a bit to get a seat at certain times of day.

  • Syndi C.

I'm addicted to this place........ I go whenever I can. The tortas are the best but you can't go wrong with anything there. The food is always worth every penny and there service is really fast. Go NOW!

  • Bella B.

Now this is the BEST Mexican food in the Cicero Berwyn Area. This place may look like a hole in the wall but the food is good. Everything is made right in front of you. Order to go since the place is small and very crowded. The prices are so really low. You can order a full breafast plate for under $4.00! Tacos are less than two dollars each!

    (5)
  • Mi S.

awesome al pastor tacos. i haven't tried anything else, but if there's even one item on the menu that i love, that's 5 stars for me. i don't care that the place is small or has a long wait. and i don't even remember what kind of decor the place has. it's a taco joint, right?

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
