Standard fast good Chinese place in the South Loop. They also have sushi, which is always suspicious. I would go back since I live nearby, but I wouldn't make a special trip.

This was a wretched experience. The egg-foo-young was a gross wet mess and the fried rice and noodles were dried out. Most of our order went into the trash and we all agreed that as long as we never ordered Yang's again then there was no point in blaming the person who suggested that we order it in the first place. It was me.

I should say something like: 'don't ever go here under any circumstances.' but that would be impolite. so, well....uh...it is cheap!

The thing I love the most about this place is it doesn't try to be something that it isn't. It's basically one step above fast food, and the prices reflect that. The pork-fried rice is pretty good, and the green-bean and pork is also quite good. I tried a couple other dishes, but none stood out. Basically, if you go into Yang's looking for decent and cheap food, you'll come out happy. For what it is, it's not bad at all.

Terrible. Take the Red Line one stop further south to Chinatown. Pass it by. This place is bad. I passed it often going to the El and wanted to try it. What a disappointment. I read the newspaper clipping taped to the door touting their pork. Ordered that & beef chow fun: both were awful. The pork tasted bland despite the red dye color added to look like flavor. The beef in the chow fun tasted gamey. That's the closest thing I can think of to describe the taste. I ate two bites and tossed it. I tried eating more of the pork but it was not going down well. Quit shortly after. With so many good places in Chinatown, next time I will surely make the extra effort. You can even get delivery from Chinatown. Don't waste your taste buds here!!!

I have been to Yang's a few times and for what it is Yang's is a wonderful place. Their location at the Roosevelt station of the el is great - under the tracks. I have the impression their business is mostly takeout but there is a small dining room with table service. The fifties style furniture and the up scale china plates in the dining room are perfect. The place does have rough edges but they are part of the experience. The General Tso's chicken is to die for. I drool thinking about going back there.

First time here tonight. It's a small restaurant with a take-out desk at the door then dine-in space with about 10 tables to the right. Typical small, crowded Chinese restaurant. But the food is really good. I had the veggie egg rolls (awesome), pot stickers (even more awesome), and the Singapore noodles (equally as awesome). Food was fast, hot, and fresh. It's just a door or two east of the redline stop on Roosevelt, super easy to get to. But the area is raging with bums and random weirdos that apparently have nothing better to do than watch you walk into restaurants.... Kind of a shady block. But heavy police presence here too. Definitely a go-back... Frequently.

Im not sure what happened to this place because it went downhill FAST. When I first moved here, I ordered Yangs and was really happy. I was stressed about moving to a new city and worried there would not be a good Chinese place close to me. Yes, I know, I need to get a life, but good Chinese is important to me. The first few times I ordered it, It was good, cheap and had quick delivery. Their eggrolls were like crack. The next 4 times, it kept geting progressively worse with long delivery times and food quality. Once, I had a huge blowout with the order taker/delivery driver. I'll spare you the details. The is the kind of left overs you just throw away. The food is not worth wasting calories on. The very last time I went there, I ordered an eggroll and WonTon soup. Both were unedible. The eggroll tasted rancid. The soup was BAD. I have been Yangs free for about 6 weeks now and I am feeling a lot better because of it.

I agree with other yelpers' on here. When this place 1st opened it was OKAY. Uh, now I can't even bring myself to get soup there. A couple of months ago I was super hungry so I stopped there when I got off the train and ordred a small won ton and an egg roll. I paid in cash and the owner told be 5 mins. Well, this is no joke after 15 mins of waiting, I went up and asked if my order was ready. Once again the owner told me 5 mins. After another 5mins I asked again, this time not to nicely. The owner said flat out "too bad im busy other people spend more money then you". Another waiting customer heard this and said it was the last time she'd ever go there. I was in shock - I took my food and told her I'd never be back - and since they I haven't. DO YOUR SELF A FAVOR GO TO THAI SPOON ON WABASH MUCH BETTER.

Great place for cheap Chinese. We only had to wait 15 minutes for a carry out order on a Friday night. Their portions are HUGE and the price is very competitive. We only paid $35 and got a lot of food...way more than two people could eat. The Sweet and Sour Chicken, Crab Rangoon, and General Tso's chicken was great. Their Triple Seafood mix was just okay and the calamari, while good, was really really salty. Unfortunately, there were no fortune cookies. But since they're across the street from Jewel, you can buy booze and your own cookies. I approve. Thanks South Loop Chinese Food Place for filling me up!

Chris the owner said he didnt care if we left a bad review. He sent the wrong order and then proceeds to curse my wife out. Poor customer skills and poor food. Don't even think about going and helping this guy out, he doesn't care.

  • Kevin C.

I actually liked this place. It's nothing fancy, but the food is good! Had the General Tso's and the Hong Kong Noodles special. Large portions, decent price, it's not as bad as most people make it out to be. Our order was definitely more than 30$ and we did not receive the free stuff people keep talking about though. Regardless, it was a good meal.

  • Eric F.

I dont understand the bad reviews... you get what you pay for!! This is a nice little chinese 'hole in the wall' in a very busy location. I ordered from there three times, initially reluctantly, and each time the food was great! The hot and sour soup is good, and I also had the schewan beef once and chicken another time. Potstickers are excellent. This place gets 5 stars because it accomplishes its mission. Simple, cheap, excellent chinese food.

Yang's is some of Chicago's best cheap Chinese food north of Chinatown. That is not to say that it is excellent cuisine, but just that cheap Chinese food in the Midwest (as opposed to say, inexpensive Thai- which can be very good) is downright unpalatable the majority of the time. The chicken with string beans is what I always order, and the BBQ pork is pretty good, too. The lunch specials come with much-better-than-average fried rice and a strange sprout salad. The wonton soup is no good (flimsy wontons, broth that tastes like Swanson chicken stock, and small fatty pieces of bland BBQ pork). I'd be wary of ordering anything outside of the string bean and BBQ pork dishes or fried rice, but that stuff is definitely better than most Chinese food north of Chinatown.

  • Andy S.

I felt a bit iffy about this place (thanks to fellow yelpers), but it is so close to the Roosevelt stop, i decided to try it out. Anyhow, the reviews were not lying. I tried the chicken with assorted vegetables, it was only so-so. One major problem i had was the amount that was given. For nearly $9 dollars, i would think that I would get more than an extra small serving. Not only that, but the sauce was very gooey and gelatin like. I was really reluctant to eat it... I can only say two good things about this place: Prime location and unpretentious. It doesn't set out to be more than what it is, such as Tamarind.

  • Sam Y.

Horrible experience. They messed up on our order and didn't bring our "free 2 cokes" Asked the delivery guy about it then called, they said they'd bring it right over. 40 minutes later... nothing. Called again to find out what was going on. Found out they had no intention of bring it. They lied so I can sign the credit card slip. I live very close to this joint... they could have either offered me a gift certificate or brought over 2 cans of coke. Come on, how much can that really cost? Now you've lost a repeat customer and many more potential customers. I hate businesses that do not understand the importance of repeat business. Good luck, I'm taking my business elsewhere.

    (1)
  • Andrew C.

I went in for lunch today. The place was empty except for a lone couple quietly eating their lunch. A sign on the door to the restaurant dining area said to wait until someone seated you. Fine. So I waited, and waited, and waited, and waited. And I waited. Finally, I knocked lightly on the door to the kitchen. A minute later a surly young girl opened the door, gave me a sour look, and pointed to the sign on the door. She said the sign says to wait. No smile, no friendly greeting, no apology for keeping me waiting so long. So I decided to take my lunch money somewhere else and I left. Despite the fact that the food is not bad (I have eaten there before), Yang's has absolutely the worst service I have ever experienced at any restaurant in Chicago in over 20 years. I will never eat here again. Hopefully they will go the way all lazy, snotty, arrogant restaurants go: under.

  • Robyn T.

I don't think I'd ever eat-in Yang's. The crowd can be a little iffy some time (especially and night) and frankly I'd rather just eat the greasy food at home. I love Chinese food but with Chinatown not too far away I'd rather go there for authentic (and quality) food. Yang's is a decent alternative because its cheap and they deliver. Every once in a while I'll have a hankering for cheap Chinese food and I'll sidle up to this Roosevelt Road staple. Egg rolls are decent, noodle dishes are good especially the Singapore noodles with baby shrimp and pork. The entrees like Kung Bo and Sichuan dishes though are another story...they are DRENCHED in sauce. This is another reason I usually order it all to go -- I drain the sauce! Good? It's ok. Cheap? Yes.

    (2)
  • Eli G.

Yang's is a basic Chinese food place, and as long as that's what you expect you won't be disappointed. The food is decent, but nothing you couldn't find in pretty much any other Chinese restaurant in the city. (Except the crab rangoons, which are better than average.) The service is prompt and the prices reasonable. I generally only get the fried rice here--there was once something rotten in the beef and broccoli--but it's still a good average place to grab a meal when you're in a rush.

    (3)
  • Jen B.

I think Yang's is actively trying to be terrible. That's the only explanation I can come up with for the wretchedly bland food we got. The kung pao shrimp had no spice whatsoever, the shrimp were few and far between, and the veggies were slimy and limp. The tomato with tofu was similarly gross and flavorless. Two entrees came with one meager box of rice to share. And, to top things off, we got charged for wontons that were not in the order. The person taking the order was nice about refunding my credit card, but good customer service in no way makes up for the food. Never again.

This place is the ick! Being Chinese, I'm ashamed to say, sometimes, I crave "bad Chinese food." Yang is really close to me, so bad Chinese food is just around the corner.... Yang, being one of the only Chinese spots btw my place and Chinatown, I decided to give it a try. I ordered a number of things, maybe 4-5(What?? I need variety), and I'd have to say mostly it was a flop. The Singapore noodle dish was not bad, but on the bland side. The grossest thing was, halfway through my meal, some of the dishes started congealing. It was like Jello jigglers, but the salty brown soy sauce version...ewww! This one curry dish was as if it was dyed yellow, but had absolutely no actual curry flavor. The solution: I hate wasting food. I'm a true believer of "fixing" it, before dumping it. So I strained the food and washed off all the brown Jello jiggler evidence and recooked it. oOOh, not bad! So yeah, unless you want to strain everything and then recook it, I would say, "Do not go to Yang! Go directly to Chinatown!" After this experience, I've decided to revise my craving of "bad" Chinese food to "non-authentic" Chinese food. Yeah, that's definitely what I mean.

Yang's Yang's Yang's. My favorite Chinese spot in the South Loop. I started eating here in high school so many years ago and it was great. It has gotten worse, but not on taste. That's always been good. They've gotten worse about portions. For $6.85, I received one shrimp egg fo young patty, a heaping scoopful of rice and beansprout salad. Not a fan of beansprouts so that gets trashed all the time, but I was sorely disappointed in the size of the patty. Yes, it was good, but I'll be hungry again in an hour and this comes from someone who is filled by Chinese food. Smoothies did take a dive. Used to be so good but they added yogurt to them. Definitely worsened it. Paid for added pineapples to my smoothie and did not taste them. Definitely resulted in some disappointment. All in all, it's good food, but be prepared. A friend ordered Kung Pow Chicken and said that it was not spicy.

I wouldn't suggest this place to anyone, unless your taste buds are dead and you like texture, not flavor. I had the broccoli and beef lunch special, which was basically chewy meat, overcooked broccoli and a pile of old looking sprout salad. Take those ingredients, add some tasteless brown gravy, et voila - you have a truly unsatisfying meal. Someone before mentioned the service - how bad it is. Yes, the waiter was sullen and rude, even though I was one of only four people there at lunchtime.

The goodness that is Yang can be summarized in two words: egg rolls. If you crave that infamous concoction of crispy shell coupled with tangy cabbage-y filling, then Yang will satisfy. Their egg rolls have just the right amount of grease, crunch and filling, plus some sort of secret ingredient that adds a nice nutty flavor to the roll. (Husband and I think it might be peanut butter.) Beyond the delicious egg rolls, everything else is your average take-out Chinese. We've tried nearly everything on the menu and it's all okay - it will serve just fine when you need that quick Chinese fix. But don't expect anything unusual or unusually good.

Went here last night and was very happy with it (except the part about having to scream to keep from getting the bathroom door opened on me despite it being locked!) The quality of food was very good - I wish I had tried the egg rolls since for me, that's one of the main things important to me in a good Chinese restaurant. But we had the pot-stickers, and starting from there, wow's that a lot of food! We split an order of mooshoo chicken and had vegetable friend rice, and was more than happy with the dishes. As two people, we barely could make a dent in the food. I wish we could have taken it to go, but since we were going somewhere right after that, we didn't want to have leftovers in our purses. If I'm ever in the area, I would most definitely go back. I was very happy. For the quantity of food, the prices were definitely reasonable.

Every now and then - on a Weekend - at work, I'll order from Yangs, because they, quite frankly, make the BEST Crab Rangoons I've had in a long time! sure they were a bit greasy, but nothing some time on a paper towel wouldn't cure - and CRISP? oooOOooo yes! I also like their LoMein because it's made with little noodles - not the thick squarish noodles I get at other asian shops. You get a TON of it, it's easily two meals worth! I've never eaten at their restaurant - but the delivery is good.

  • Kirin S.

I am not sure what all the (negative) fuss is about. I just tried Yang for the first time and had the small Kung Pao chicken. The chicken itself was tasty white meat - not the mystery meat I was afraid of - and it had lots of fresh vegetables. The rice portion was a little small for my liking, I will probably ask for extra next time. And I agree with some other reviewers that it was pretty saucy, but I think I'd prefer to have too much than not enough. Price was right. I will come again.

This is one of the worse Chinese take out places I have ever had, and I have been in Chicago for 3 years and am a college student. Needless to say I eat a lot of fast Chinese food. I had the Orange chicken and the Lo Mein Beef. Both dishes were horrible. Besides the food the service was terrible. I had it delivered, which took an hour and a half, but it also gave me a large Orange chicken instead of the small I had ordered and charged me as such. I'm sure they would have screwed up the Lo Mein order also had it not been that it only comes it one size. If you dare order from this place, make sure they get the right order down.

had a hankerin' for some junkie chinese food. needed it to be delivered. took a whack at grubhub to narrow down some options. looked a few of them up on yelp and started to get worried - most restaurants had an average of two stars. but then i thought, what the hell, it's junkie chinese - maybe two stars is what we're aiming for. and we settled on yang's. in a record 20 minutes, our food arrived, steaming hot! - general tso's chicken - mongolian beef - small wonton soup - (free!) crab rangoon (with purchase of $20 or more) - no fortune cookies :( a little sad we didn't get any dipping sauce for the rangoons - essential in my book - but overall, the food was good. general tso's was definitely the best choice of the bunch. prices were on the cheap side, considering the other options in the area. also, if you get a "large" you'll definitely have leftovers. i'd order from here again.

  • Jon A.

Don't like this place anymore. It was good when i first started eating it because it was right by my house and I kept telling myself it was good but overall this place sucks. Fried rice is too hard and too greasy, mongolian beef is just all onions with about 6 small strips of beef. I do gotta give them credit for their egg rolls but how can you mess that up. Food is just blah overall whatever you get and waaaay too greasy!

Wow, no love for Yang! I walked in there STARVING today because it was near my hotel and it was either eat there or scavenge at the BP station across the street. And I wasn't quite gas station hungry. However, I think I enjoyed the food much more after 9 hours of traveling and only my itsy bitsy airplane bag of pretzels. I agree that the hot and sour is crap. It's the kind that's bright orange and has no flavor and no thickness to it. Yucks. But this city is windy, that's no joke. So my cold ass ate most of the spicy vinegar water with tofu chunks and flavorless egg. If I could give the potstickers a rating I would give them 5 stars -- those mofos were yummy! Big and fat and filled with yummy meat, and the ginger sauce was reeeaally good. I don't know why I got the orange chicken, I'm not into breaded crap. Starvation messes my head up. It definitely looked like you get more food eating there -- my half full huge, styrofoam, environment-killing carryout container looked comical. The food was blech, though I did like the salad, consiting of sprouts, julliened carrots and peapods, and a little sesame. But it doesn't matter because I didn't eat it anyway. Big eyes and little tummy. Plus eating yucky food is so not worth it. I bet those crab rangoons are good -- this woman was fursiously making them when I picked up my glorious grease fest. Ohh, the guilt. So why 4 stars? The potstickers are damn good. Just don't order anything else.

Maybe if it was Thanksgiving and I was in some The Christmas Story kind of scenario with all of my family staring at my with hungry eyes and a completely empty refrigerator and the only place to get food in the whole city was this place MAYBE i would get a delivery from here. That is a big MAYBE. I would probably walk to some far far away land like Schaumburg and brave the elements first. How do you screw up an egg roll? Just curious because that had to take some special skill. The reason we ordered from here was the fact they had sesame shrimp on the menu which is hard to find. the shrimp were inedible and believe you me- you don't want to tempt your fate with eating bad shrimp. Plus- it was sweet and sour. Needless to say I had pizza for dinner Saturday night as the shrimp went down the trash shute with something posing as an egg roll.

If I could give this place ZERO stars I would. I've tried to eat here a few times (I always give places a second chance). NOT a good idea in this case. The older woman at the counter was one of the rudest people I've ever seen. Not only to the customers but to her staff! She would yell and scream at them in front of customers...Which made me feel totally uncomfortable! I don't know how this place stays in business. Maybe because of it's location next to the Red Line? That is the only reason I can think of! The people that are giving this place a good review..have you ever eaten "good" Chinese food? Apparently not! The food was TERRIBLE!!! I literally threw it away...ugh...I can't believe I tried this place twice..what a mistake! I cringe every time I walk by this place. I don't see how they could do anything to get this to be a decent restaurant!

  • John C.

There are two redeeming qualities about this place, hence the two stars. One is that it is quick and dirty. You can place the order, get ready to go, walk over and your food is almost always ready. I say dirty because if you ever looked through the swivel door into the back, it is pretty dang gross. And don't even think about walking past the back door between the building and the Roosevelt stop. The second redeeming quality is the dumpling appetizer. We always get these, because no matter how bad the other dishes are...these dumplings are great. You start off well, but you end badly. I've only had a few decent entrees. Most of the time, we end up throwing the meals away and wishing for more dumplings. I order from here often because of the proximity and the dumplings. I always try different dishes, but they all seem to be so-so to gross. Example#1 - Shrimp with Lobster sauce. The jello-like substance in the sauce is absolutely gross. Example#2 - Order the same dish three different weeks and it tastes different and looks different each time! Example#3 - My friends came over and ordered the Cashew Chicken. They try this dish all over Chinatown and my friend's family used to run a Chinese restaurant. They weren't even sure that you could call the dish Cashew Chicken. I think they tried to take it home and wash off the sauce and redo it. It was so bad they just threw it out. Okay so I bagged on this place, but I keep on going there. I guess I'm insane. But you get freebies!!! Spend: $10 - two sodas $20 - free crab rangoons (greasy but good) $30 - sweet & sour chicken

I have had Yang's several times in the past and it was pretty good so I figured its Friday and I was craving Chinese so I made the call. My food was delivered quick however it was void of all taste. I had to throw it all away that's how horrible it was. When I called them to tell them about it they had the nerve to get indignant with me. My tryst with Yang's has ended I will never eat there again.

Quality food, great service, good prices - very tasty South Loop Chinese cuisine. I have been going there for years for lunch - take out, eat in or delivery - it has never disappointed. I enjoy the fresh vegetables used in the dishes and generous portions of meat - it's fun to try new things, but I usually end up getting my favorite: a very simple chicken chop suey and a couple of regular egg rolls (perfect and excellent every time). The standard Yang salad is a delicious bean and carrot dish and every lunch special comes with tasty shrimp fried rice. I work downtown in the Loop and it is convenient to have this wonderful spot close to the Roosevelt stop on the Red/Green/Orange line!

Love Yangs, I order from them at least twice a week. Never have had a problem and delivery is always really fast. The Singapore noodles and the egg roles are amazing! I usually order an appetizer and a large entree and I have enough for lunch the next day.

If you want decent, quick, inexpensive Chinese food in the South Loop, this is your place. I don't bother with eating in -- takeout is best. The seafood combo fried rice and lo mein are standouts.

O STARS. It isn't an option but it should.... My order totalled $5.85 and they have a $6.00 credit card minimum (which is an amount implemented by the business itself, it isn't some sort of a requirement placed by a bank as they don't care how much a transaction is) so when I get there, they try to force me to buy some extra things to make my order over $6.00. That was beyond ridiculous and very bad business etiquette. It was fifteen cents!! I instructed them on what they could do to my order and walked out of there. The food is bad and already on bad terms with me, this just threw me over the edge.

Yang's is amazing!! My boyfriend and I are both very picky about the crab rangoon we eat, and this place is a winner! General Tso's chicken is also da bomb!! The chicken comes crispy & it is just really so delicious. Delivery is always really speedy & coupons are available. Go try Yang's!

this place is horrible. I had to throw out all of the food I ordered because it smelled so bad. DO NOT ORDER FROM HERE UNLESS YOU WANT FOOD POISONING. WHAT A DUMP.

Found Yang online after looking for Chinese take-out places in the South Loop. Best potstickers and crab rangoon ever! Also really liked the General Tso's chicken. Tried the sesame chicken on another trip and didn't like it, but also got the Singapore Rice Noodles and those made up for the sesame chicken - so good! You definitely have to try them. All in all, a great value and good option in the south loop - fast delivery too!

This is a hangout for neighboring Columbia College professors and students grabbing a cheap meal. The no-frills, basic lunch specials come with fried rice and a small salad of sprouts for under $6. Try the orange chicken, or anything with string beans. Service is courteous and efficient. The real drawback of Yang's is the owner/manager, who has zero interpersonal skills. She can often be heard screaming at her staff or yelling into the telephone at delivery customers. I'd suggest getting your lunch to go.

Hot food fast was what I was looking for and I found it at Yang's. Pretty typical Chinese menu-I went with the Kung Po beef. TOO heavily sauced although the large portion allowed me a hearty lunch the next day. I chose to dine in and the setting was quiant. When I first arrived the take-away waiting area was crammed. So it seems as though they do a good carry-out business. Upside: egg rolls, large portions, price Downside: no brown rice, too saucy

  • Joel G.

Disgusting. That's all I can say. I ordered spicy orange chicken which was deep fried - hours before it was re-heated. The usually crispy coating was soggy and the chicken was hot on the outside and cold in the middle. So cold in fact, that I preferred to cut into the pieces before eating them - a good thing too when I found raw, bloody chicken in the middle of one of the fried pieces. On top of it, when I noticed the chicken was raw, the waitress said she was sorry and still charged me. Stay away unless there's nothing left available.

less is more with Yang. Yang is on my speed dial for take-out/delivery chinese food in the south loop. There are many more options just down the street in Chinatown for more authentic cusine but Yang is consistent and quick. let me get back to my 'less is more' philosophy with yang...when i look at the menu for Yang there are about 50 items that look good to me - its just the nature of Chinese food. If you like Chicken/Rice, you'll probably enjoy its brother Beef/Rice and the distanct cousin Shrimp/Rice - at least that's the way my appetite/tastes work. when you're narrowing down your options at Yang (i like the Garlic Shrimp, Chicken Brocoli, Pork/Green Bean, and Szechuan Beef) order the small sized entress. they are 'value' priced and still have ample volume for lunch at work the next day.

  • Ron C.

Being Chinese I never crave "bad Chinese food" and I can't understand how people in America can. Yang's is just another one of those places that douse their food in fatty oil, MSG and just throw any leftovers into a wok and call it chop suey. If only people would try proper Chinese food, this place would be out of business immediately. The prices are affordable but not worth what you can really get with that dollar of yours. I can understand if you live 60 minutes away from the closest Chinese food but this place is a red line stop away from Chinatown/ 5 min busrride on state. So get off your ass and go to Chinatown instead. Seriously.

I went to Yang for the first time expecting something along the lines of Panda Express, which is a good thing in my mind. I also went in a little unsure given some of the yelp reviews. I was surprised to see Yang is definitely several notches above a Panda Express type place. The chicken I had was all white and none of that mushy dark type meat you sometimes get at Panda. The fried rice was good, as was the yang salad. Overall they exceeded my expectations. My only issue, which is not an issue with just Yang but all takeout places, is the type of container they use for take out. The food absorbs that Styrofoam taste from the container. Other than that, I will be going back!

Good basic Chinese food, not greasy!

I'd like to clear up some of the confusion about Yang's. The negative reviews are likely coming from people expecting Ben Pao's or PF Chang's. Well, this isn't it. This is your everyday average hole-in-the-wall Chinese joint. I've lived around the corner from Yang's for 4 years. I've probably had over 50 orders from them in that time. (Average once a month). In fact, I'm not lying when I tell you that I'm eating a carry-out from them right now. If you stick to the basics - mongolian beef, general tsoa's, sweet and sour chicken, orange chicken - you'll be fine - no, you'll be great! And they have some of the best heartiest crab rangoon I've ever had, and I'd like to consider myself somewhat of a crab rangoon connoisseur. If you're expecting to get some authentic exotic shrimp or fish dish, go elsewhere. You won't get it at Yang's. Stick to the safe chicken and beef basics and you'll be happy. They give you heaping helpings too. Each person will have more than enough food with the 'small' order size. And even on the busiest days, you'll get your order in under 30 minutes delivery or 20 min carry-out.

Probably some of the worst Chinese I've ever eaten. Not only was the food disgusting, but the service for pick-up was extrememly slow and borderline rude. I would not recommend this to anyone looking for a good Chinese take-out.

this is American-Chinese food at its greasy bland deep-fried best. which isn't very good. Sometimes Chinese food take-out is really just a fried chicken joint with different sauces and rice instead of biscuits. Yang is sorta that way. The hot and sour soup is- I swear- just egg drop soup with vinegar added. The food is super-fried and the sauces on it seem like they were made in a far-away factory a long time ago. They skimp on the veggies and nothing seems fresh.

Wow what disorganized employees.... We ordered take out from Yang just yesterday and they said "10 min." We ordered a small szechwan beef and a small shrimp with broccoli and two vegetable egg rolls. When my husband arrived to pick up the order only my shrimp with broccoli was in the bag but he had just paid $9.85...for what he is not sure..So he sat down and waited for his meal to be cooked and placed in the bag and they charged him a difference of $3.20. When he got home and I asked him where the egg rolls were he gave me this wide eyed look...They weren't in the bag. Needless to say we figured out that they never charged us for the egg rolls but they did end up charged us $.10 too much in the end for the food we got. Oh-when my husband arrived at Yangs he said the lady at the counter had her cell phone ringing some obnoxious ring and then she would answer it in between helping him and yell in another language (besides english) into the phone...and also was yelling back into the kitchen too. He said it was really obnoxious and annoying to deal with while trying to get his order corrected.

It was Sunday, I was in the mood for some good egg drop soup so I decided to give Yang a try: the crab rangoon was decent, the chicken with broccoli was pretty decent but I must say, and strongly emphasize, that the vegetable fried rice was simply not edible. After a quick smell and a bite for good measure, I threw it out. Got that egg drop soup craving fixed though...

All I can say is that I really do not care for their style of cooking. I ordered shrimp fried rice and they drenched the rice in soy sauce! Eww. To make matters worse they did not devein the shrimp. Sorry but I really don't want to eat shrimp poop. Will not be coming back here.

I wanted to give zero stars. I got a terrible case of food poisoning from Yang's the other night. I had fried rice, wonton soup and an egg roll. I will never order from this place again - beware.

Good food, but get it to go. There's usually no one in the restaurant, and it can be boring to sit and wait for your food while watching the take-out crowd come and go. The food is cheap and good.

This is the worst Chinese food I have ever had. ever. This is worse than chinese food from the mall. On top of getting my order wrong, the food was foul. the hot and sour soup was disgusting. it was bright yellow and tasted like canned dog food + warm water and soy sauce . the sesame chicken was soggy like matza balls by the time i got it and the 'sechzuan' beef undercooked and had 5 pieces of beef and all filler with little taste other than salt and msg. and the rice. holy crap, there was a 3x3x3 inch container of rice with the meal. rice. I can buy a 25 pound bag of rice from the store for $5. suddenly there is a rice shortage in chicago at yang's. when i called to get the right order, the delivery guy, (who showed up an hour after i called back) demanded that i return the random chicken dish that i was erroneously given since i wanted to 'exchange it' instead of just giving me the food, a couple of coupons for free appetizers and apologizing for wasting my time and money. he actually had to call his boss to get approval for giving me the dish i ordered and then made it seem like he was doing me a favor since i didnt give him back his random crap chicken dish (which btw tasted like saltwater + msg + chicken byproduct). save your cash people, just go to the mall if you want crappy chinese food. and if you want cheap good chinese dont go here either, because my meal for two bordered on $25...

If you can't get down to Chinatown which is only 10 minutes away, then the Yang restaurant is a decent place to go for Chinese. It is a very tiny restaurant holding about 20 seats in total and we were a group of 8 girls. They really enjoyed the pot stickers and what's nice is the appetizer came with 8 instead of the usual 6 pot stickers so everyone had a try. We definitely like the Shrimp with Chow Fun (flat rice noodles) and they accommodated the one gluten free person at our table with Chicken and vegetables. The pork dish and I forgot which pork dish we ordered was good as well.

While the looks from the outside may make you walk past it, that would be a mistake if you were in the neighborhood and looking for decent chinese food. As a vegetraian and New Yorker, I am fairly picky even about cheap chinese take out. I ordered a the general tao's tofu, some spring rolls and some veggie rice. While waiting, i remarked at the cleanliness of the restaurant (there is a few table for eat in) the awards on the wall and the family nature of the establishment. Once picked up, I enjoyed the meal greatly and would definitely return to try other dishes. Fancy and deliousious? No. Good, clean and fast - you bet!

As I sit here waiting for my food to be made, I am regretting all the times I considered walking in but didn't. I've worked in the area for almost three years. I've waited for many a' train or bus just mere feet from their front door. I thought the place looked "old" and "empty," not the kind of place you'd find decent food. This week, I put in my two week notice and found myself stranded, once again, outside Yang's door. I wanted to get out of the blizzard so I took a deep breath and walked in. What the hell.. I need food and who knows how long it'll take to get home in this weather, I thought. This was two days ago. I ordered an egg roll, crab rangoons and a small combination fried rice. The verdict: greasy, yummy Americanized Chinese food. I like traditional Chinese food but this is like comparing Mexican tacos to Taco Bell. I happen to like both!! Most places soak the fried rice in soy sauce or just make crappy egg rolls. I had no problem devouring my food. So... I'm back again today because I don't know when I'll be close to Yang's again.

I love Chinese food - I really do and when I lived in Lakeview, my favorite was Wing Ho. It was also what I missed the most since moving to the South Loop. The first time I ordered from these guys, I was shocked. I've had Chinese food in small towns in the middle of nowhere. I've Chinese food in towns so small, I had to drive 3 hours to get to the airport. I've had Chinese food where Wal-Mart was a big shopping trip. Yang was just diabolical! I ordered fried rice and sesame chicken - let's just say my fried rice was grey rice - white rice and soy sauce. Nothing else. Since S. Loop is so close to Chinatown, I found 1 or 2 places, but this just fueled me learn to make my own Chinese good. Thanks Yang, thanks for forcing me learn how to cook on of my favorite foods. Don't be fooled - they're now operating under a new name. Still would not trust the food.

They changed their name to Chopsticks but make no mistake it is still the same owners. Food was horrible quality and they got the order wrong for takeout. Place was such a disaster I saw two people waiting for there pick up order demand there money back and left because the food was taking forever. Service is also still rude and standoffish. Don't let the new sign fool you.

Ordered from Grubhub. Their LoMein was Chow Mein with flavorless boiled noodles. We called to have the entree replaced only to have them tell us it would take an hour and 20 minutes to come....which turned into NEVER! They never showed up with a new meal. After waiting two hours we called only to have them not answer their phone. Not worth it, Don't bother!!

For an American-ized chinese restaurant, I got exactly what I expected and it was delicious! Also, I got my food in literally 5 minutes and it was steaming. The place had nobody in it! Lastly, it's quite cozy!

Meh. The employees were friendly and the delivery was speedy (which may have been the problem). I ordered the General Tso's and the Sesame Chicken, both seemed to be undercooked and the chicken was more fat and tendons than actual meat. The crab ragoons were good. I will not be eating here again.

Terrible service. I can't say this review reflects the food because my friend and I didn't even get to order the food. It was 9:30 when we walked in so we still had an hour before closing. It was cold and we were hungry, and this was nearest place by the train station that was opened. We walked in and the woman who worked there asked us if we were going to order for take out and we said no we wanted to dine in... The woman apparently did not like the idea by rolling her eyes. As we were looking at the menu that was on the counter, the woman opens this other door and she said with an attitude, "well if you guys are dining in then you need to take seat." It was incredibly rude. My friend and I slowly walked to the table in disbelief of how this woman was acting. But before we took a seat we decided to leave. And I told her walking out, "We're just going to leave since it looks like you don't want us here." She did not budge from her seat. And it's true that restaurant (or at least she because she was the only employee I saw) did not want our business, so we'll go somewhere else. I really would have rather the employee be upfront and and say we are only doing take out right because we are closing soon. HOWEVER since she did let us in showed that they were open for dine in but she just didn't want to do the service. Like I said, since it's by the train station, I always walk by it...now I know to keep walking by.

I ordered food from this place with the understanding that they deliver. I waited over an hour for the driver to get to my location. I called the place twice, first time told food was on the way; second time, driver can't get through the street. They had my phone number, but refused to call me and let me know the situation. This is why I will not patronize places like this. If you are looking for places to have food delivered order from somewhere that has the courtesy to let customers know when certain request can be done.

New name (something about Chopsticks), which made me hopeful. I should have known better when I was told the "new" restaurant employs the same chef as Yang. I ordered a noodle/vegetable dish, which was so greasy that it was almost inedible. Egg roll was passable. My husband's fried rice also suffered from the greasy syndrome. I've gotten better Chinese in food courts.

  • Teschia B.

Oh no! I was excited that Yang's was on a certain delivery site, so I decided to check them out. Bad idea. After reading the reviews on both websites I wanted to cancel my order immediately, but being that I had a good experience with Yang's 5 years ago SILLY ME to think that the service and food was still good. I kept it simple with my order since after reading the reviews I did not want to venture into something great. I got the BBQ pork and Beef fried rice. Let me just say...a bisch was pissed. The BBQ was just some fat rolled around in sweet red sauce. The rice was barely edible with the tons of soy sauce and bland dry beef cubes. Can't mess with you Yang's. The quality in food has went downhill. Back to my Thai and Japanese food.

I ordered two egg rolls for take out. They took quite a while to wait for. The restaurant wasn't busy so I couldn't understand the delay. After I got them they were the best egg rolls that I had ever eaten! Now this is my soul source for egg rolls, and I make a special point to go there.

Never again. Ventured here as a last resort with a friend today, sat down amongst a room of impolite people yelling at eachother and wait staff coming in every now and then with napkins. Waited a good 15 minutes for our order to be taken, and then another 20 for the food to be ready, despite being told several times it was "coming out now." It came, and it was literally jello with some curry flavoring in and squid and green peppers (?) Weird as. Anyway, tried a little bit because I was so hungry and my friend and I just couldn't, so we sent it back. I decided I didn't want anything else from there because it seemed dirty (the plates we got were not even clean!) and my friend asked for a refund because it was so bad. The waitress called the manager, who yelled at us and said she cancelled the order and that we had to go. Then proceeded to give us dirty looks as we walked out. The only reason I am posting this (I never really do this stuff) is to stop innocent people getting food poisoning and to stop the staff basically getting verbally abused by the manager.

If you choose to sit down instead of taking out, you will be robbed. Only the large-size items on the take-out menu are available in the sit-down menu, which are all over $10+ (anything includes seafood are $13+), but the portions of these items are way less than what large should be. You can go to some decent Chinese restaurants in Chinatown with 10 times better decor and service with these price tags. Don't try the seafood dishes, all you get are green peppers which are about 3/4 of the whole dish, only a few pool shrimps or scallops scattered on top of the peppers buried down. The worst of all, if you are not satisfied and give less than 15% tips, you WILL be overcharged and they raise the tips to 25%, which happend to me, this place is outrageous. If you are hungry and want to have some cheap Chinese fastfood, don't be fooled by the shabby looking of this place which makes you think the food must be cheap. Go to Panda Express instead.

Good lunch option! I was there a little bit after the lunch crowd and my friend and I were the only ones there! Be sure to ask for the lunch menu if they don't offer it because there is a huge difference in the prices! The service was good, the server was very attentive and refilled waters several times. The Crab Rangoon were out of this world, super good! I could have eaten them all day! The orange chicken was just ok... A little sweet for my taste and I asked for it to be spicy... Which it wasn't really. But the amount of food was huge and I ended up having it for lunch and dinner! For an inexpensive and, yummy and huge portioned lunch this place is good. Not the best Chinese food I've ever had... But I would go back for sure and try different things!

I ordered the seafood fried rice and hot and sour soup. I was deperate with no time to cook and wanted a quick, tasty meal that was near my place. Never again. I've learned that a five minute extra walk somewhere else is worth it. The fried rice was hard, not fluffy, and the seafood in there (imitation crab meat which is labelled as lobster on the menu, scallops, and shrimp, weren't really tasty either. All in all, it was hard and chewy and unflavorful. The hot and sour soup did not even come close to meeting my expectations. To my surprise, it was orange colored and tasted like egg drop soup with buffalo wing sauce poured into it.

  • Mia S.

Never ordering from this place again! Yang's used to be my go to for Chinese take out, the food was always pretty good. Not anymore. They forget to include the rice we've ordered and refuse to bring it to us or take the charge off when we call them. And tonight they completely messed up my order (I wanted an order of crab rangoon but was given these fried rings of dough with a little shrimp... I guess that's what they call jumbo fried shrimp). I'm not one to complain normally but seeing as they charged me DOUBLE what my order would have cost, I decided to call. After listening to the woman on the phone yell at people for 5 minutes she came back to say, "I know who messed up your order but what can I do about it? It's okay right? Just eat what we have you!" When I asked that the charge be removed or even discounted to the price it should have been she yelled at me to call the credit card company and ask them to remove the charge. Then she HUNG UP on me. Don't bother with this place unless you want to be ripped off.

This was the worst Chinese food I have ever had in my life... and I've had some bad Chinese food. The sweet and sour sauce is that jelly pink color and the chicken was fried in to ball like substances. The beef and broccoli had a similar dark brown jelly goo.... basically it was just made with bad ingredients and cheap products. Not authentic at all... don't expect much from this place.

    (1)
  • Susan M.

As Chinese food goes this place was run of the mill. The $175 in unauthorized charges on my credit card statement though was particularly touching. Do not go here.

Takeout - Cheap, fast, yummy, and good portions for the price. It's rather small but it's a take out/delivery kinda place anyways. Sit Down - small dining area, staff was friendly and helpful. There is a bit of a price markup to sit down though.

  • Cassie S.

This place has gone seriously downhill in the year that I've been coming here. Tonight's dinner confirms that I need to find a new chinese restaurant nearby (or that delivers to me). The beef in the beef and broccoli was undercooked (gross!!!) and the sauce was quite slimy. The sauce for the general tsos chicken was completely bland and the chicken wasn't crispy (hey, if I'm going to eat fried chicken, let's actually fry it...). A very underwhelming greasy meal that really wasn't worth the calories.

  • Aly N.

Sometimes you crave Americanized, greasy Chinese food. Yang is a great place for that. If you want something more authentic, then take the Red Line one more stop to Chinatown. The prices are reasonable, and the bubble tea is good. I often call my order in while I'm on the bus to/from work, as it's on my route. My order is always ready in 5-10 minutes, so I can be on my way. They do have a small seating area if you want to stay and eat. Two negatives: the staff, particularly this one younger, good-looking guy, really hate their jobs. I have never seen any of them smile. Also, I hate when I eat shrimp, and they haven't been de-veined because you can feel the crunchiness of the dirt and poop and whatever else is in there. Gross.

I don't think I've ever written a negative Yelp review- I love to spread my love for great Chicago restaurants... I thought I would try Yang for myself despite of all of the wretched reviews. This was a horrible mistake!!! Cheap greasy Chinese? Sounds good to me. No, there is a seriously fine line between cheap eats and garbage. We could not eat more than one bite without a knowing if we continued we would be violently ill. Walk in from the EL and you are in an even more filthy place. How bad can fried rice from a Chinese take out place be? Bad enough to make you throw up in your mouth from the texture and flavor. Crab Rangoon was creepy fish flavored cream cheese and the Chicken is just as scary as the other reviews describe. You know the sick taste of your mouth when you're really sick? That's how Yang's tastes in a Chinese way. I didn't know it was possible to offend me in such a way with cuisine. Run!

  • Janet E.

I was hungry and needed something quick today. My order was taken immediately and the food was prepared quickly, in less than 10 minutes. However, I ordered curry lo mein and what I got was curry egg noodles. Its NOT THE SAME THING!!!!! FYI, their lo mein is just regular egg chow mein.

  • Kathy S.

I really wanted to like this place...especially since it's only a couple blocks away from where I live. I was so excited thinking about having somewhere so close when I craved Chinese but that excitement quickly was lost. I love food A LOT...I even get excited about airplane food (and now I'm so sad that they only give you snacks instead of microwaved deliciousness), which it seems everyone detests. However, we ordered a few dishes and I have to say...the steamed rice was the best out of everything. And I was still hungry because I couldn't force myself to eat anymore. Wow, how often does that happen with me? Sometimes the potstickers aren't too bad but how hard is it to screw up something that's frozen that you have to nuke? Actually, they can. Because the couple times I tried them, they were only lukewarm right out of the carton.

    (1)
  • Reiahnna J.

I always go here and get the same thing. Beef Chow Fun and sometimes potstickers. The beef chow fun is beef, onions slices, hefen (wide rice noodles), bean sprouts and beans still in casing. I add soy sauce. It's so fulfilling and so yummy. The hefen and onions help make it a tasty meal.

This place is the best! Every time we are in Chicago, we always hit up Yang's! LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE! Can't get enough!.... AND to top it all off, it's cheap! Double-bonus for being open late for people like me who don't seem to come out of the house til the sun goes down. It reminds me of the Americanized Chinese food that I grew up on that was really cooked by and owned by Vietnamese people. Think crab rangoon, not dim sum. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy authentic Chinese and Vietnamese restaurants in Chicago too. Some of the negative reviews make me wonder what they are comparing Yang's against. It's like going to Taco Bell and being mad bc they aren't selling Big Macs. We've been coming here since before the area was cleaned up and when it was super sketch-ville. Yangs til I die!

  • Susan O.

I want to love you, Yang's, I really do because I love Asian food - even the fake Chinese food you do so well - and you're so conveniently located equi-distance from my house and Chinatown. Alas, you raised your prices and the service has all the charm of a jaded undertaker. I had the squid and broccoli lunch special for $7.50. The squid itself was perfectly cooked - all five slivers of it and about as many florets, drowning in the cornstarch and food coloring sauce. Husband had a chicken dish which looked decent (so if you must, stick to the chicken). And to those nice enough kids at the front serving people: please crack a smile and say please or thank you once in awhile.

  • Dan C.

Got Yang's after a concert on the way home a couple weeks ago. It served it's purpose, but there is certainly better takeout Chinese available. Great location right off the el, but this is likely also the reason it is overpriced. It doesn't have the freshest ingredients, and it is definitely Americanized (which has its own merits, admittedly). If you want something quick and easy, go for it. If you have a little extra time to spare, try elsewhere or get delivery for a similar price.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
