On Southwest side this is the place to have those delectable Chicago Style Hot dogs. I think that stands should stop claiming they are Chicago Style if they are not. But this place is, the owner (I forgot his name) is just a pleasent person and takes care of you himself. Try them out, nothing fancy, order, step to the side and bam its done.

Amazing food and service. The owners are so friendly, this is a great family owned place. I love the food, we go abut once a week now and always try something new. Recently, we had the beef supreme and really enjoyed it and we then found out that the beef is homemade. I have never been disappointed and they offer a variety of options.

This is a great little joint. I've only had the beef, and occasionally the gyros, but mostly the beef, because it's just soo damn good, dipped and hot, just the way I like it. Homemade recipe with good gardiniera, beef has a nice flavor and has been, without exception, lean and tasty. They use more spices than a beef sandwich from, say, Mr Beef, but they all work well together. Gyros are also good, Kronos meat from a rotating spit, so if you like gyros, you'll like the ones here, and based on other reviews, I may even try one of the hotdogs here, but it's so damn hard resisting that beef sandwich with some fries to soak up that juice. Anytime I'm down near Midway, I always make time to stop in here for a beef sandwich, and highly recommend you doing the same.

The Dogz in this joint are good and the Italian beef is really choice (thank you Cheech Marin for the 80's slang) and this is one of the few remaining mom and pop joints that really put through an honest to goodness effort and the owners are good people to boot. They also occasionally have some really good bargains: How does a 99 cent dog sound to you? And as an added bonus they do the Chicago Dog just right no need to go to Sonics for some lame imitation, the goods are right here and it's for the most part tourist free................. I hope................................... Ah who cares tourists are all welcome but don't steal my hot dog you hear me!!!!!!!!!!!!

Love this place! Since it first opened, I have been coming on and off and the food never ceases to amaze me. The food is excellent, and the service is exceptional. They are Family owned and the staff is friendly and pleasant. They also have a convenient little parking lot. Generous portions, freshly made food and they have pretty decent hours..what else do you want? **Truly a hidden gem that 'Northsiders' should risk their lives to venture out to the South Side to experience** BEST GYROS ON THE SOUTH SIDE OF CHICAGO!

My girlfriend orders Hot Dogs with ketchup, and I'm nervous to bring her here. I'm nervous because the last time I saw someone order Hot Dogs with Ketchup, I saw Nick tell the guy he could go down the street and get some, and then begrudgingly hand him a few packets. But he would not SERVE hot dogs with Ketchup. I'm nervous because I've been coming here since I was in high school, and I've come to love the family that runs the place. Nick is a nice guy, and the food's top notch. I feel like I know them well enough, that I want them to like her. That's the mark of a great neighborhood place, right? The stand is a staple of the community. I came in here with my dad. My dad has since passed. I drove my first car here; also long gone. But nothing at Windy City ever changes, and god is that refreshing! The prices, the food, and the family, are what makes this place the greatest, and I wouldn't dare change a thing!

What a great little find!! Thanks Yelpers for the recommendations! Those staying in the Hotel Center, go get some to gos! Gyro platter had flavorful meat, 2 fresh pitas, tomatoes, peppers, tazikki, french fries and a big chunk of feta.... Enough for two people. Next time we may even try a hotdog! Family run with a menu that is so large, and all over the walls, Robert Irvine would have cardiac arrest! Lol

OMG. Amazingly good food. Great service. They sell almost everything here. Hptdogs, burgers, gyros, corndogs, and chicken sandwiches. Fries. Onion rings. Even milkshakes! Great little place for a good meal. Easy on the wallet. And fills up your belly.

Great service! Great prices! Great food! The Chicago hot dogs were delish! We recommend making this a stop while in Chicago. It's small but the food makes up for it.

My reviews stick strictly with Italian Beef sandiwches. I've been called the Authority of South Side Beef Sandwiches and I take pride in that. SO, with that said, here's my review of the beef sandwich at Windy City's. Windy City Hot Dogs has become a staple in this south side community. The hot dogs are delicious, the gyros are very generous and the service is superb. The hamburgers/cheesburgers mirror too much the south Chicago King of the Greasy Burger - Jackie's, on Pulaski Ave. So, that brings me to the beef. The first time I ordered it, they got the order wrong. Not a good sign. As usual, I ordered a beef sandwich, dry with giardiniarra peppers. I got it soaked. Big boy not happy. BUT, I ait it anyway. Hmmm, like the taste if it wasn't falling all over my plate the wrong way (through the bread). So, in an unprecidented move, I gave the place a second shot. Reason being they have delicious and affordable food otherwise, so maybe I caught them on a bad day. I went back and stressed DRY as much as I could. I got my beef sandwich dry, but the meat was the scraps -- the bottom of the barrel. It was terrible! There was something about that first beef that I still enjoyed, but if you can't get my order right and serve me a quality beef in two attempts, more attention is needed to detail!

When i use to live in chicago i would come here all the time since it was right down the street from where i lived. havent found a place like this in california the gyros in california usually suck and they're so small. everytime i come back to visit chicago i stop by to eat after i get off of the plane! i get cheese fries and a gyro. the portions are big and the food is good and cheap! i can never finish a whole gyro or the fries its just so much food for such a small price! i have had better gyros...

My wife and I love this place. It's just a small stand, but they have everything you would expect from a fast food place in Chicago and the people who work there are extremely friendly. The food is good but not great, but everything there is extremely inexpensive, so it balances out very nicely.

Family business who always have a smile to serve up with oversized portions. Get the cheese fries but make sure to have at least two people to help. The gyros platter is phenomenal as well, piles of gyros meat and not cheap with the pita bread as many other places are. The hot dogs are stand up, great snap to their bite and the relish is just neon enough.

What's not to like here? At any given moment, you have Mom and the "kid" slaving over the hot steamtables, sometimes Pop too. Labor of love, I think. And it shows. Everything is generous here, from the hot dogs to their great Italian Beef and the Meatball sandwich. The red sauce, the hot peppers. Try a grilled cheese, or a corn dog. If you can't find something to eat on this menu, it must be you, not the menu. The front gets a little crowded, but big deal. You can take out too. Stop by this corner gem....-plenty of parking in the huge lot.

Amazing service and food is what Windy City Hot Dogs is about. I've been going there for 8 years now, and I love going there regularly. I love Windy City Hot Dogs so much that last winter I convinced my dad to buy me hotdogs from there in return for shoveling the snow!

As local and family owned as it gets. You wanna taste of real South Side Chicago? - Pick up your overpriced car rental, then pop over here on your way from Midway airport and get a real Chicago meal amongst real Chicago working class peeps before heading into downtown. Mom and Son usually working in the shop every day. Your meal is fresh made-to-order. Mom's delightfully grumpy, so my personal goal is to always joke with her or be extra nice to her and make her smile. You be extra nice to her too!! She works hard for your meal! This is counter service only, usually take out, with a very small eating area ( stools and counter top) . My favorite standard Go-to's are the cheese fries and the gyros sandwiches. These two items are my "litmus test foods" for 'chicago style" fast food places. Both of these are perfection at Windy City. Gyro Pita is FRESH. i mean. LIKE FRESH. like probably from a bakery with no preservatives at all. Gyros meat is delicious. Not too chewy, not too rough, not too burnt- just right. So many places serve a dry and crumbly gyros meat. Tzatziki sauce is home made brilliance. BRILLIANCE!! My Gyros sandwich is ordered with 2-3 extra sauces on the side, because I love it so much. Food portions for price are very generous. I usually order a gyros sandwich, extra pita, extra sauce, and my mom and I split it into two sandwiches and are super full afterwards. My best friend came to visit Chicago from Singapore. We drove from Ohare airport, home to the south side, and this was where she wanted to stop after her 24 hour flight, before even making it to the house. LOVE THESE GUYS!

What a fabulous place! Food is fantastic and Nick and his family the best! You have to try the Italian beef sandwich, it is the best I have ever had. Well worth the trip from wherever you might be to try this place.

I do believe that my review is long overdue, but here it is. Coming to this hot dog joint for a long time, since it is after all very close to my house. This business is family owned and run, and it keeps the tradition of good service alive. Everything on the menu is very impressive, yet it is cheaply available for everyone to enjoy. Even though it is a very small building, it is able to fit people in there to dine inside. I guess I just keep coming back because they offer the best service of the entire neighborhood. I definitely recommend to everyone in Chicago and beyond.

Fantastic, family owned business. A larger menu than a lot of hot dog joints. Vienna. All cooked to order. Get some garlic bread, while you're there. It's garlicky as hell. And I'm the reason it's on the menu. Great neighborhood place. If you're from out of town, hit this place up. This is Chicago. You finish eating? You're welcome.

Standard Chicago fast food place with all the usual fixings. Hot dogs, polish, italian beef, gyro, pizza puff, you know what I mean... The place is tiny so eating in here is out of the question unless it's empty. Usually most people take it to go. It's probably the best place to get a Chicago style hot dog with all the fixings in the neighborhood(Anthonys isn't that great and Tony's isn't any better). They used to be a dollar but are a bit more now. Still a great deal if you ask me. A family runs this place. The owner and son manages the place, the mom is usually working the register and the dad is the cook. They are are a Greek family so they are kinda loud and can be annoying depending on your personality. I always hear them talking Greek to themselves. Everything is okay but there's nothing exceptional. They have a foot long polish and hotdog if you're into that, served with fries. The only thing that I actually really kind of like is the "Francheezy", which is a in house creation. It's basically a cheese filled hotdog wrapped in bacon and covered with the works. I recommenced giving it a try if you want try something new.
