I ordered online 2 hours before the expected pick up time. They apparently never looked at the order because when I got there, the food wasn't ready. To make things worse, 1 of the sandwiches had mold on the bread! I gave them 1 extra star for replacing the sandwich. The non-moldy sandwiches were just okay. Not worth the walk when there is a Potbelly's that is closer.

Love Which Wich and their options! Great location, clean and friendly people. My favorite is the wicked or I love the bowwich

Which wich? What? Who wha where? Which wich has a weird name, but it's accurate. You come in here, and you're given a choice of which wich you want. Meanwhile, nobody mentions that probably the best way to get your wich is by it not being a wich, and having it be a bowl. That's apparently unspoken but regulars here will tell you that in an instant. What do I like about which wich? You get absolutely anything and everything you want on your salad. What don't I like about which wich? Well, it's not really a sandwich at that point. I do dig some of the specific options that make a lot of sense and/or add flavor, namely that you can add horseradish and/or ground red pepper and/or spice as desired. Sadly, these named ingredients are far more rare than they should be at most places. This is worth checking out, but it isn't exactly my favorite place to go. It's also too far from my work location, so for me personally I probably won't go here often.

Overall: extra large sandwiches with a variety of toppings, though salty, pricy, and slow Food: lots of food. Because you can choose wich-ever toppings you want, I get most things and my sandwich comes out larger than a Chipotle burrito. Which is saying something. If chipotle burritos are like footballs, the Which Wich sandwiches are like little baseball bats. It's a big, salty mess. For 9 dollars, they give you a paper bag with a menu on it. You can choose whichever toppings you want, and fortunately, they have a wide variety. Bbq sauce or mustard? Sauerkraut or lettuce? You can have everything! And I did. The result was a salty, sloppy mess. It didn't really come together, mostly because the meat was super salty. Though the workers were nice and the restaurant was empty, the sandwich still took more than 5 minutes (~8) to come out. I worry that it'll be even slower is the place is busy. Which Wich is a good treat for the hungry, but bring water and try not to go too overboard.

3.5 stars I was about to enter au Bon pan when I look next door and saw this place. It was completely empty and one of the workers was sweeping so I thought they were closed, but luckily they weren't. This place has got to be heaven for sandwich lovers. The menu is HUGE! They have just about every sandwich you can think of cold or hot. From Reuben's to Panini's to Gyros they have you covered. Me being a novice here it was a bit overwhelming with the choices and it didn't help with the lengthy read of boxes to check off on the brown paper bag. I guess if your super picky or anal you might like this approach to ordering, but I'm more so the one size fits all give or take an ingredient or two. Speaking of sizes you pick that as well. Small, Medium, or Large. Small was perfect for me. The friendly woman at the counter took my order for the served hot Reuben sandwich. It had plenty of meat and was filling. Also should mention the bread it was served on was fresh and delicious. I will be back and more prepared to order next time.

Which Wich, so clever, I like it. I like unique concepts and I like being able to customize my food. It can be confusing for a virgin Which Wicher though! There's a big menu board, there's sharpies, there are bags in numbered bins. Don't fret, look at the menu board, note the number beside your sandwich of choice, grab said number from the bag bin and go to town on customization! Hot, cold, skinny, white, wheat, sauces, cheeses, veggies, extras! Fun! If you're looking for a big, overstuffed sub, then Which Wich is probably not for you. They have regular, human being sized food. I approve; it's a good meat, to veg, to bread ratio and always filling. Their bread is tasty and everything is always fresh. I've tried several sandwiches and so far there isn't one that I wouldn't get again. I also love that it's in Block Thirty Seven shopping and there is an underground red line stop right there! Dude, you can hop the L and stay underground, out of the elements to grab lunch! I usually get a small sandwich and a water and it's like $6. I like me some $6 lunches in the Loop. It's not spectacular, but it's damn good and it's a solid go-to sandwich joint to have in your back pocket. Much like Potbelly, always good.

the buffet of sandwiches! imagine a salad bar of sandwich toppings. even for us veggies, there is quite a bit to choose from including onion strings and potato chips :) i love that i don't need to go with my usual cheese and tomato and if i'm lucky, avocado sandwich. the artichoke parmesan is my favorite and i love to throw in hummus and other veggies...and yes, the onion straws. because sandwiches are customized, the wait can be a little stressful especially if you are attempting a quick pick-up lunch and as others have noted, the assembly line doesn't seem like they have any sense of urgency. double-punch wednesdays are worth the wait though! my only complaint (in comparison to other sandwich spots - potbelly's, snarf's, cosi) is that the bread could be a little fresher.

I just had the buffalo chicken sandwich and it was De-Lish-Us! I added pickles, red onions, peppers & a little ranch dressing - every flavor popped in my mouth and there was an explosion! #BuffaloChickenRocksHard

Not great, not bad. Def. a unique and fun take on ordering. However, it didn't make up for the not-so-friendly service. As for food, I ordered a 7-inch roast beef on wheat "skinny" (they hollow out the inside of the bread a bit). There are plenty of toppings to choose from. The sandwich was good. If you put Potbelly or Snarf's next to it, I would pop into either one before I would return to Which Wich.

Very interesting sandwich place downstairs in the basement of Block 37 on State & Randolph. I kinda dig the name Which Wich...ya know like Which Sandwich do you want as they have so many options. You walk inside and there is a wall that lets you know what sandwiches they have to offer. There is a thin paper bag under each genre of sandwich that you can write your name on (that how you will be identified when you sandwich is ready), and it also contains a bunch of free topping options that you can include on for sandwich...pretty cool huh. You can also express yourself with artwork on the paper bag if you like. Very nice selection of sandwiches here. I am a classic rueben lover so I got that my first time around...pretty damn good. Not the best ever but was worth the $ I paid for it. Sandwiches come along with a dill pickle spear. The next time I got the srirracha tuna sandwich which was good as well. Great flavor as I devoured the damn thang! Very colorful interior here as it kind of reminds me of Hot Dougs and Edzo's with the color scheme...lots of red & yellow. Good spot o grab lunch in the loop!

Located lower level of Block Thirty Seven. enter though state and washington, go down escalators straight ahead on the left next to red line. Okay. the coveted 5 stars for Logistics and ingredient variety. Every sandwich place is the same except HOW they get you your sandwich. Subway meets Potbelly, meets your own kitchen if it were stocked with every meat, cheese, topping imaginable. HUGE win for Vegetarians! The black bean patty looks great. You custom build the sandwich as per your liking. The small size is filling enough for lunch! Only downside is if you come during the lunch rush, prepare to wait for about 10 minutes. Read a paper which they have available, draw on a brown bag and add it to the art gallery. they have lettuce wraps instead of bread, bowls are an option! I had a great experience just filling out the checkboxes... as Americans, we love custom built stuff.. Get in here if you haven't already, if you don't like the food, it was your fault, try again.

As I continue my quest for the best breakfast sandwich in the loop, I can tell already that Which Which is going to be a contender. I ordered the bacon and egg with cheese sandwich (cheddar) and some salt and pepper. I am a purist, people. Lots of great things about their breakfast sandwiches- you can order them all day (yay!) great bread, nicely toasted, cheese that actually stretches from the sandwich to your mouth- no cheapo ingredients here! They bacon they use is also very good, and I thought ingeniously cut into very small pieces rather than big strips. Some fell out, but I thought it was easier to eat this way. It was wrapped in foil, so still nice and hot when I got to my office. The only downsides: I ordered the smallest size (7") and even without any toppings really, it is still pretty filling. Also, the $6.34 price is a little more than other breakfast options, but this will definitely hit the spot if you're hungry and/or hungover. 8 out of 10 stars!

Okay, I have had their pork tenderloin sammich and it was always pretty darn good with coleslaw and a pickle. I will point out that they never understand the idea and do not ever really give you much bbq sauce. It was always a decent 3 1/2 star sammich. Went last night after work and the pork tenderloin is off the menu, but they have exactly that sammich as an option so i gave it a try. I suspect I will not again. It isn't so much bad as disppointing. The pork was think sliced deli pork. This is not BBQ-d Pork! They were stingy with the bbq sauce.... I mean BBQ PORK Sandwich, hello? The pickle is good, teh slaw was nice.... I mean, I just probably will not bother again. Unless I am in a pinch. Avoid the Gyros! It was made of ground beef, spices and sadness. Also as a point, always different people working there. I realize it isn't the greatest job, but is it that hellish that the turn over is that high? Or do they 500 employees?

I ducked in here for a late lunch between errands. Originally I was going to go with the tried and true (Au Bon Pain) for the grab-and-get-out experience, but the line was slooow and the cash register line did not look promising as it was also stretching back and featured a mass of seething customers. I getting hungry, and with the time for my brow wax appointment looming, I decided to check out Which Wich. I must have timed it right, as there were only two people ahead of me in the line. The customization looked ambitious, so I decided to grab a bag for the #8- Banh Mi as this is not something I could find at the ordinary sandwich place. I decided to go with the standard option- cucumber, siracha mayo, jalapeno, cilantro, and pork. I was a bit wary of the pork, but figured in for a penny, in for a pound. The fountain drink selections are solid - they have Barq's root beer - so I grabbed my drink, secured a seat, and waited for my order to be called. All was well until I heard, "Banh Mi, no name" called from the counter. Apparently, I was meant to write my name on the bag. For some reason, that had escaped me, though to be fair there were a lot of decisions to be made when it came to crafting my sandwich - even though I went the lazy route. Perhaps it is time for an eye exam. That aside, I found the sandwich to be flavorful, with just the right kick of spice afforded by the jalapeno and siracha. The bread was crisp, without shredding the roof of my mouth, unlike some other banh mis I've sampled. When I looked at my receipt, I noticed that I can go online to take a survey and write down the code to redeem for a free cookie (w/purchase) on my next trip here. Recommended if you are in striking distance of Block 37 on a day when The Nosh is not on offer.

Which Wich is the definition of A-OK. This wasn't the best sandwich I've ever had, but it definitely wasn't the worst (and if it had been, it probably would have been my fault). I love the concept here. Nothing stresses me out more than the whole Subway/Chipotle-esque ordering system, where you have to make game-time decisions as they are already squirting mayo or adding beans. At Which Wich, you can take your time & fill out your bag, and it's kind of a stress-free sandwich ordering experience, IMO. However, I can't say the meat was the greatest (turkey), nor was the lettuce the freshest, nor was the avocado the most plentiful... you get my drift? Definitely not as good of a sandwich choice as Potbelly or Hannah's Bretzel, but if you're near-by it's a decent option for the price. Everyone working there was really nice & patient to my co-workers that were having a hard time making decisions, so that's a bonus. Note: this joint is in the basement of Block 37, near the Red line entrance.

Oh, this place. My first Which Wich experience was at a location in Nashville. I don't think it's particularly hard to figure out...but maybe that's because I had some southern friends with me, telling me exactly what to do. First of all, I'm in love with the endless possibilities. Sure, because it's a free-for-all, you could totally screw up your sandwich, but I love that there's no one judging me for getting double pesto, and don't ever tell me that ranch and buffalo sauce don't go together. Whenever I go in here, the location is pretty clean, and the people are always nice, I just wish the location wasn't hidden away in the depths of the pedway, it should be outside and welcoming for people to know how awesome the sandwiches are! More locations in Chicagoland, please!

Checked this place out today while Looking for lunch. Found the way to order was fun. You grab a sandwich bag and mark off what you want on the order and then hand it to the cashier. The sandwiches were good - your typical sandwich shop subs, which I would compare to pot belly. We enjoyed checking out all the drawings on the wall as we ate.

Which Wich is all about customization and creativity. You start the process by grabbing a paper bag from the slots along the wall. Your choices can be anything from turkey to seafood. I had the Italian grinder prescribed with salami, pepperoni, and capicola served on a white toasted loaf. The next step was to pick the toppings and there is a wide range to select from. I had provolone, spicy mayo, lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, mushrooms, and vinegar with mine. The portions were very generous! I've been there multiple times and the waits were never longer than five minutes each. My one complaint is their sea salt and vinegar chips. It was very average and subtle compared to what JJ's have to offer.

This place offers most efficient way to make a sandwich I've ever seen. Filling in the bubble of what topping and extras you want on your sandwich eliminates the annoying yelling and "umm uhhhs" between you and the person making your food. Be careful with the bags you take. Some aren't updated and I had to specifically ask for the toppings I wanted. Siracha and hummus. Such a good combo! The only drawback is that they close really early and aren't open on Sundays, which is a bummer when you're walking between the red and blue lines hoping to grab a quick dinner.

This place is confusing! I don't think I've ever stood in a restaurant for more than 2 minutes trying to figure out how to order before visiting Which Wich. They simply have way too many options. The rules? 1. Grab a bag according to the type of meat you want. Grab a pen too. 2. Check off as many ingredients as you'd like to add to your sandwiches. It's YOUR mistake if you mess up what could potentially be a very tasty sandwich. Ever since I started on this foodie adventure, I've realized that not every food lover knows how to cook. Sorry dude, you're S.O.L. if this describes you. (Look it up on Urban dictionary if you don't know what means). As for the rest of us, we're just a tad luckier...

I really like the "bag" system where you can grab a bag and then fill in the boxes to create your own sandwich and take a second to think about what you want. I got the "bowlwich" which was basically one of their buffalo chicken sandwiches without bread. I like that they offer that option also because I was feeling a salad that day but went in there because I've been walking by everyday and wanted to try it. The buffalo chicken bowl was pretty average. It satisfied my salad craving but wasn't amazing. They were pretty fast and friendly which of course is always nice also. They're downstairs from where I work so I'll be back, I'd like to try an actual sandwich too.

Was my mistake that I got the Tuna? Because I could have gone to subway for the same exact thing. I asked the kid if I could have it toasted, but I don't want the tuna hot. He just told me to put down cold. Well, that's how I got it. Not toasted. Is it just me or does everyone in Az. have soft teeth? Are your gums hurting? WHY CAN I NOT FIND A SANDWICH PLACE WITH GOOD CRISPY BREAD! It's all dough! First of all, stop storing it in plastic. It makes it soft. It has no taste. I'm really not being a snob. Promise. I love a sandwich, but its not just the fixings, the bread has to make its own statement. The bread I grew up on could be eaten as a meal on its own. This bread and every other I've tasted here can only be used to sop up spills of some kind. Is it the water? dunno. Ill keep searching.

Love the concept and the sandwich was pretty decent too. I hate screaming my order over a sneeze guard and other people during the busy lunch hour. This completely removes this annoyance. When at some places, I don't even know what my options are to get on my sandwich. This removes this annoyance. Plus, I'm pretty sure they have more options than most sandwich joints. With all I selected, I probably didn't even need to order the chips, as the sandwich was filling. Side note - we did get there pretty early for the lunch rush (right before noon, no line to drop off order) - yet we did have to wait at least 5 minutes, probably more, for the sandwiches to be made.

My husband and I stumbled upon this sandwich shop while taking the pedway to the other side of State. (Memorial Day parade had State closed to crossing) We were sucked in by their huge amount of customization and affordable prices. A 7" sandwich+drink+chips for $7.95!! Wow, we'll take it! I like the concept of customizing your sandwich on the brown paper bag. This is a lot easier than yelling over the oven at Potbelly's to tell them which toppings you would like. We liked that the sandwich bread was just the right amount. Subway/Quiznos use way too much bread. If you like sandwiches, you'll like this place. You can pretty much design whatever you want :)

    (4)
  • Rhonda G.

Kind of overwhelming! They have lots of options but you can barely tell where to start. Grab a bag and a pen and then what? what kind of sandwich is this? Can I substitute anything? Too many unanswered questions on all of the many signs. Also, in my opinion, it's a tad pricey since it's only deli meat. I might go back, but only if I plan out what I want ahead of time and probably only if I can't think of anything else. So basically chances of a return visit are slim.

SSSSLLLLLOOOOOWWWWWW............... Even if I really like the salads and sandwiches here, I can't always spend half of my lunch break waiting on the very slow assembly line of food prep. They have an army of people behind the counter, but still, I can't get a sandwich made in under 15 minutes....that's an eternity in lunch time.

    (2)
  • Gfiddy F.

I like Potbelly's but at Which Wich was reminded of how a Potbelly's chicken salad sandwich tasted 10 years ago. Also Grahamwich take notice - it is possible for customers to select what they want on a sandwich. Highly recommend to the quickie lunch crowd.

When this place first opened, it was awesome. Always packed at lunch time. Then they started using stale bread and now it's not so great.

During the lunchtime rush: Mr.Sub, i get my sandwich in 1 minute. Subway, i get my sandwich in 1 minute. Quiznos, I get my sandwich in 1 minute, Potbelly, I get my sandwich in 2 minutes, and Jimmy Johns ...i get my sandwich in 25 seconds. This place, I got my sandwich in 20 minutes. The ordering system is ok, and the meatball sandwich was deace, but I cannot believe how long it took to get my DOG-ON SANDWICH, doggonit! There were also 15 other people standing around waiting a long time, and had grumpy faces as well. The staff was friendly, but the people making the sandwiches were mired in chaos. I'll come back when Im not on a lunchbreak or when I have a couple of hours to kill.

A step up from Potbelly. Be sure to read the menu before you arrive, expect a line during the week. My sandwhich was good, went up to the cashier, "what did you have", how about a friendly smile, or hello? Rude in my book. Ordered a cookie, it was burnt, I'm talking as black as pavement. Told them and they gave me a new one. The resturaut itsself was DIRTY! Trash can overflowing, our table was dirty, and there was trash on the floor. I wouldn't expect that for a store in Block 37. At least at Potbelly you have a clean store. Overall, there is MUCH better in the Loop- Hannah's Bretzel is worth the price, and tastes MUCH better. Potbelly would be a better, cheaper alternative.

This place is very a interesting and unique version of subway. You walk in and choose a paper bag with a number (1 for turkey, 4 for chicken, etc). Then you take a marker and fill out the info on the bag- how big, what kind of bread, what kind of cheese, what vegetables you'd like, etc. Then you turn it into the cashier and pay (about $5.75 for a 7 inch.) I had a turkey on wheat, toasted, with mozzarella, lettuce, tomato, mushroom, olive, cucumber, oil, vinegar, and oregano. It was very tasty- bread was nice and soft, veggies were fresh. But even though I chose tons of veggies, they only barely put a few of each on the sub. I would have like more stuff on it. Seating area is small inside but decent. And as soon as we sat down, someone came and wiped down our table- a nice touch. I would come back here for a quick and yummy lunch!

Tried it, but was disappointed. I loved the variety of options offered, but the end product was like a low-grade PotBelly's. Note "Toasted" = slightly above room temperature.

The reviews here all echo my complaint. It takes too long here. I mean, compared to other sandwich places. I had the wicked wich. It was very good. Prices are in line with the other sandwich places that aren't subway. It's like if Potbelly and Quiznos had a kid, and that kid was better than his parents put together. Expect to spend $8-$10 on yourself for lunch.

I really liked Which Wich! I thought it was super fun, quick and tasty. I got the Black Bean patty on white bread with pepper jack cheese, lettuce, onion, tomatoes, pickles and Dijon (toasted, because hot's better). I saw that someone else thinks that these are the Morning Star black bean patties - that I can't really comment on because I've never had the Morning Star...BUT, I thought that it was a delcicious sandwich and I think we have to give them credit for the right amount of black bean, delicious cheese (and pepper jack is usually not my favorite), lettuce, etc. It came out hot and I thought the bread was delicious! Not too bready (i.e. very thick bun), but just right and tasted fresh. I am really looking forward to returning and trying something different! I must say that I walked in a little embarrassed because I was confused by the paper bag options until I realized that there are different paper bags for "Veggie, Meat, Chicken, Turkey, etc." However, I did not feel rushed, and the final product did not disappoint.

I doubt I'll go back, at least during the work week. Went in on a Friday at 12:45, filled out the bag to order a turkey sandwich, waited 20 minutes, then realized they made me a corned beef sandwich instead. They figured out the error, but I still had to wait another 5 min for the turkey sandwich, with no explanation. The guy that handed me the sandwich tried to cheer me up after he could see the anger on my face, so that was admirable. The sandwich itself was OK- not as good as Potbelly's though. There's just too many other good options for a quick lunch in the area for me to ever go back.

i love which wich!!!! i discovered this little franchise when i was living in Johnson City, TN. i'm so excited that there's one in chicago. this place is kind of like subway but soooo much better. the combinations of sandwiches you can order are endless. great food. good service. oh and don't forget to try the shakes...super yummy! i already want to go back. =)

Just opened in Block 37. I like the ordering system - you check boxes off on a cute paper bag - and they have a lot of interesting combos you don't see elsewhere. I guess my problem was getting a salad (yeah, yeah) - the whole thing was meh. First, I got teriyaki chicken, which came out resembling sliced turkey lunchmeat with no teriyaki flavor whatsoever. Second, the lettuce was simple iceberg, disappointing, and the veggies were sparse. Third, they forgot an ingredient, which happens, but when I went back they said it would take 5+ minutes to prepare said ingredient. They did offer me free chips, which was nice (didn't take them up on it). I might try again next time for their sandwiches, but the meat on my salad really did throw me off. Finally, the space is kind of spare and uncomfortable - the tables and chairs reminded me of a bus terminal or something. Not a pleasant place to eat in.

FYI this place is located in the pedway area of the Block Thirty Seven Mall. I got a 7 inch wheat toasted Italian Grinder (Salami, Pepperoni, Capicola) with cheddar cheese, pesto, light mayo, caramelized onions, iceberg, spinach, tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, mushrooms, and garlic. It was $5.75 plus tax! It was delicious! I love the option of customization.

Which Wich reminds me of a higher class Potbelly's in that you can add as many ingredients to your sandwich as you want! The choices were a little overwhelming to me but the end product was delicious! The sandwiches are categorized by meats. I picked up the bag labeled "ITALIAN" and checked off the muffuletta sandwich which came with salami, ham, and olive salad. It came with nothing else. Thankfully they have SO many choices for FREE add-on's. The only add-on's that AREN'T free are double meat, double cheese, bacon and avocado. Everything else is FREE! I added mozzarella cheese, lettuce, and grilled onions to my sandwich. It was super delicious!!! The olive salad was really what made the sandwich flavorful. Cost was $6.05 for just the sandwich. Definitely worth it for lunch in the downtown area. The store has plenty of seating as well

Bring your patience when you go to Which Wich, because you likely will wait in line to give them your order and you will most definitely wait for your "wich" to be made. I have to admit that I do like the concept: completely customizable sandwiches. Everything from the bread, to the condiments, to the extras are all at your discretion. And there's quite a dizzying array from which to choose -- things like crispy onion strings, avocado, pesto, teriyaki sauce, and even Cheez Whiz can be added to your sandwich. Of course they have every imaginable deli meat and cheese as well. It's easy to get carried away making your sandwich, which is available in three sizes, and you can "make it a meal" with chips and a drink for $2.50 extra. You start with a paper bag and check off your fillings and toppings, write your name on it, then hand it to the cashier, pay and wait for them to make your sandwich and call your name. I had fun listening to them butchering names. One thing I noticed that I thought was great was that when one of the sandwich dudes finished making a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, he immediately discarded his gloves and put on a fresh pair. Apparently they do that after touching anything with peanuts so as not to potentially contaminate the next sandwich. I know the guy standing next to me (who did in fact have a peanut allergy) certainly appreciated it. Kudos to Which Wich for that attention to detail; those with peanut allergies need not fear or worry about bringing their epi pen. Speaking of which (no pun intended), the people employed here work their asses off, but also seem to be having a good time. They enjoyed playful banter with folks waiting for their sandwiches. That's always nice to see. As for my 'wich, I kept it fairly simple with egg salad. It's nearly impossible to screw up egg salad unless you commit the cardinal sin and drown it in mayo, which they did. I was willing to overlook it though, because the fresh cucumbers, lettuce, tomato, and avocado more than made up for it. I'll likely give WW another go-round, especially since they also sell milkshakes (made with REAL ice cream! God, I hope so.) It's a nice sandwich option in the Loop, and it certainly beats Subway, Quizno's, and the like.

I was pleasantly surprised by this place. I take a ho hum approach to sandwich shop, as they're just a place to get lunch and get back to work. But when I had to work at my Loop office on Saturday, I realized not much was open. I remembered Gallery 37 having some downstairs options and knew they'd be open since the "mall" caters to tourists. So I grabbed a sandwich here. I'm a vegetarian and I loved that it had several options for us. I also loved the unique options to add to sandwiches (hummus, house chips, dried cranberries, walnuts). Being a first timer, I ordered a "medium" thinking that would be a sufficient size. It was HUGE, far too big for one meal. But it was a fabulous lunch!

Order a cookie! I think they run them through the sandwich warmer. Great selection, you can get pretty much any sandwich you want here. I usually get turkey with avocado, tomato, spinach and dijon on wheat and it is very tasty. The bread is good. They serve the kind of chips I like so that's a plus as well. Solid lunch spot or for an early dinner.

I am soooo excited about this place. It's like Subway exploded into something...well...good! The sandwich combo posibilities are endless and there are so many healthy choices. if your're feeling super ambitious, you can go online and build your sandwich to see the nutritional content. The menu is divided into different sandwich types like Vegetarian, Chicken, Turkey, comfort, etc. and then there are more choices within each category like for the Comfort you have PB&J, egg salad, Spam, etc. You grab a paper sandwich bag from one of the many categories and then go to town picking all the toppings and type of bread you want. I was looking for a limit of toppings but there is none! You can have a blackbean patty on wheat with 20 different items! it's insane! The combo with drinks and chips for two was under $20. Love it! I was blown away by the customer service. They were a little slow at the register but someone came around and asked if everyone was OK and then we got a sincere thanks and have a nice day on the way out. Impressive for fast food.

I have gone to this place a few times for lunch and I enjoy it enough to go back. The options are almost limitless. You start with the bag of the type of sandwich you want then you pick which of those categories you would like. Then you build your own sandwich. The sandwiches are pretty good and filling. The service is a little slow even when it is not that busy. There are a lot of choices plus they have Mr. Pibb which I enjoy. I would recommend this place. Try one of the Italians!

Fat happy Americans love too many choices so of course Which Wich is going to satisfy our ever-growing need for control and options!! YAY - sandwiches where you can decide spicy mayo or regular mayo (shoot, maybe even light mayo...). Dijon or yellow mustard? Veggies? Cheese? All of these decisions are made while scribbling down your selections on a brown paper bag. It's like every other sandwich joint BUT NOT.

  • Trevor H.

Which Wich makes it easy to get exactly what you want on a sandwich. There are several different categories like turkey, ham, seafood etc to start your sandwich. Then it is up to you how it's made. White, wheat or bowl... All sorts of veggies, cheeses and condiments. Overall Which Wich is a great lunch break stop. Definitely join the Which Wich Vibes Club. You get a free sandwich emailed to you the next day after joining. Just make sure you send it to your junk mail if you don't want the other annoying emails!

I decided to check this place out when I wanted a sandwich and didn't want to subject myself to the consistent mediocrity that is Au Bon Pain... As soon as I walked in, I couldn't help but compare it to Potbelly's. I liked wide range of choices and checking off boxes on a paper bag - much more pleasant than having someone demanding to know what I want as I walk through the door, before I can even see the menu. Instead of having annoying live music, Which Wich played music that was unnecessarily loud and drowned out the employees trying to call out the names scribbled on the paper bags. Clipping paper bags to a clothesline and pushing them along as the sandwich is made is also sort of cute. I was there well after the lunch rush, and the service was inexplicably slow. At least ten minutes elapsed between placing my order and retrieving my sandwich - a grinder, not that complicated. I don't think I've ever waited that long at a Potbelly's - even at the peak of the lunch hour. There were a lot of staff members hanging around behind the counter, and none cleaning off the filthy tables in the dining area. Two guys were making sandwiches, while everyone else loafed, seemingly unfazed by the slowly increasing number of paper bags dangling from that clothesline. My sandwich was okay. They forgot to put cheese on it - I know it was their error because I could see that I checked off that box on my paper bag. Oh well. This place is relatively new, and perhaps they just haven't worked out the kinks of their concept. All in all, it's better than Au Bon Pain, but it's a toss-up when compared to Potbelly's. I may give it a second chance in a few months, if it's still around and I'm not in a hurry to get anywhere.

I just started a job nearby and I am now OBSESSED with this place. I have been 8-10 times in just 2 months and every sandwich I've had has been delicious. (To be fair I have to give myself some credit right? I'm designing the sandwiches) The people that work there during lunch are super friendly and they could easily not be. The place is packed and you can still get in and out quickly. My one MINOR complaint is their store made potato chips are average. But they sell national brands so, just get those. I was overwhelmed for about 30 seconds but got over it quick. Once you figure it out, you can rock and roll pretty easily.

One of the newer sandwich shops in the Loop area - a very creative place that caters more to the workday crowd than others (at it closes at 7pm on weekdays). You basically create your own sandwich by checking off the ingredients that you want on a sandwich envelope. This is basically Potbelly's, except a bit pricier but lighter. Will agree with others here - I went at 6pm on a Tuesday and there were only a few people around. Service was still SLOW.

I've tried Which Wich several times and originally I would have rated it 4stars, but boy has it gone down IMO. This place used to be banging during lunch time. It was consistently crowded yet the service was pretty good and the orders were taken and fulfilled quickly. Nowadays it seems a little depressing when I walk in there. The only thing bringing me back is the 10 punch card (damn those clever biz folk). Pros: - Cool order concept - Lots of sandwiches and options Cons - Lack of sandwich recom. I've ruined a couple sandwiches not knowing what would taste best on a certain sandwich. - Fruit Flies? Seemed to be one too many last time I was there. - Slow - Not as good as PB

soo many Choices! i cant wait to explore (devour) more of this amazingly complex menu. I'll admit that at first it is kind of intimidating how you have to pick a bag that corresponds to the category of sandwich you want. i was in the mood for pickles and pork, so i got the Cuban. the gf got a spicy mayo shrimp po'boy. the sandwiches look small in size, but they are heavily packed with dense consumable contents. idk, i'm kind of at a loss for words because the sandwich choices, options, and add on's are literally endless. the wheat bread was reminiscent of potbellies when toasted but the flavor of Which Which is off the Heezy. Fo-Sheezy living @ the forest park blue line stop i imagine riding the train down to Block 37 (newer awesome mall on state street) to get some Which Which up in this bitch. i'm sooo hoping they expand throughout chicago.

Im totally obsessed with this place. This is what every sandwich should aspire to be too!!! They load the bread up with meat and if you ask for avocado they don't give you a sliver they load that puppy up with it till its spilling over. I love the fact that you can mark down everything you want on little sleeve and there are soooo many options!! They have everything from pesto to feta to little packets of lemon juice for your tea!! And the price is unbeatable. So long potbellys, jimmy johns and subway im all about the Which Wich now!!!!

  • Alexis G.

My favorite sandwich place right now! So many options to add onto your sandwich at no extra cost. I always get the grinder and always add lots of extras and it always ends up amazing. The menu can be overwhelming at first but once you find something you like its like hitting a pot of gold.If you only get a sandwich it can be pretty cheap but if you get anything above the reg size and make it a combo expect to spend more than $10. Kind of random but I really like there ice.. I know but there these tiny little snow-cone like balls so nice to munch on when your all finished.

  • Kate W.

We were standing there, staring. There are a lot of choices. An overwhelming amount of choices. When a gal, not an employee, just a person, came up to us and offered to help. "I'm here all of the time," she says. "What are you in the mood for? Everything is good." She gave us some recommendations and we finally felt educated enough to order. I have a bad habit of thinking, "If I'm eating out, I should just go for it." And if you're going to "go for it" you should probably get the Grinder, with salami, pepperoni and capicola. And you should get it on toasted white bread (not wheat) with provolone. And a few veggies, lettuce and tomato, probably. And then add giardiniera. And also get the fresh, home made chips because yum. And then you should BOMB ALL OVER THAT 'WICH. Because it is delicious.

FUN! Definitely like Potbelly on 'roids: they sure have a lot more to choose from. I was especially pleased to see they have shrimp po' boys as an option: how often do you see that? Block 37 doesn't have much going for it, as many know, but this place is a find. I went during the lunch hour on a weekday and didn't wait long at all. Nice employees, too! Love the concept of clearly marking everything you want on your 'wich on a paper bag- they got it exactly right. Looking forward to trying many other things here! Oh, and their "house chips" are much, much better than any of the regular brands they sale- try them!

This place rocks. I wish there was a which wich north of the loop so I could go more often including weekends. Service with a smile, food with a flavor. Who DOESN'T like customizing their sandwich? Fool-proof.

  • Jenn G.

LOVE the whole customized write-your-order-directly-on-your-sandwich-bag thing. they do a great job of giving you a ton of options, but presenting the menu in a way that's not overwhelming. they also don't gouge you for all the extras (there are only a small handfull of extra items that actually incur an additional fee, and they are clearly marked). The assembly line process is quite impressive, and despite my boyfriend's sloppy handwriting, we both got our sandwiches exactly as ordered, and they were delicious. I'm a huge fan of the black bean burger sub - a delicious and protein-filled veggie option! Definitely a lunch time staple if you work in the loop.

The taste of the sandwich totally depends on what you put on it. You pick your bread, meat, toppings, dressing and condiments by filling out the menu/sandwich bag before ordering. Then 5 minutes later, you've got your sandwich. Fast and simple. The chicken + avocado + mayo + lettuce + ranch is a great combo. I'll be back to try more options.

I won't lie... I was skeptical at first. "Superior Sandwiches, yeah right" I thought. Boy, but does the name really not do this place justice. It's not only superior, it's probably the best there is. I have been there twice so far and it is my current all time favorite sandwich place. Ever. You get to pick what you want on it and the whole system where you simply select what you want on that brown bag is genius. You save time, you don't feel rushed if you don't know what you want on it (Hey Subway, maybe I don't know right away what I want on my damn sandwich okay) and the variety and amount of choices to put on the wich is awesome! The staff is super nice and pleasant. I probably have never met a better staff at a casual fast food place before. Not that I call this place fast food, but the food does come pretty (kinda) fast. My favorite. The only bad thing would be the location - I don't get any reception there :-/ But whatever. It's all well worth it.

I like the concept, and the ease of marking what you want on a bag and not trying to tell someone what you want; no more "not peppers, pickles" that I've experienced. Plus they have one of the best chicken salads I've ever tried.

Love this place. My mom first found it when she was in Dallas on business and we usually make it a point to eat at one if it's nearby. I usually hate making decisions, but I love all the options I get at this place. You could order the Clubs sandwich every time you go and get a different iteration every time. (I got the cole slaw on mine this week. NOM.) Much better than just adding hot peppers to "switch it up." Even with the different options I've picked, I've never had a bad sandwich here. One of these days I will try a shake. Like the other reviewers said, you will wait. This is probably because there are so many options and not every sandwich is the same. If you want the same sandwich from Subway or Potbelly or Jimmy John's - go there. I find that if you either go right at noon or at about 12:45 you can avoid the lunch rush.

FUN concept you go in pick the meat that you want on your sandwich grab the bag that is under it then start picking what you want on it. They have tons of choices for very thing....veggies, sauces, cheeses, ect.... Grab a bag and enjoy!!

Yelp fail! Yes I'm kind of underwhelm due to the fact I could of made this at home with meats with less sodium. This "Italian" whatever (not italian beef, what i was looking for) tasted so salty I'm forgoing the chips as a homeless person will be getting a gift between my walk from here to Millennium. The basic sandwich is kind of on the small side that would make Europeans blush as for you big eaters be prepared to be disappointed. It's not horrible but keep it simple when coming here very simple. Oh side note: it's in the Pedway as this rat maze confuses even native Chicagoans so if you are not apart of The Loop work force then it's just best to satisfy your lunch choices elsewhere.

  • Eric L.

A sandwich is a sandwich so I guess what makes this place good is the plethora of options and customizations. If you didn't like your sandwich, you just didn't order right. I prefer which which over most other sandwich chains (togos, quiznos, subway).

    (4)
  • Krystin H.

It is nice to have a new option in the Loop. You create your own sandwich by checking off options on a paper bag. (It's not like Subway were you have to scream over the glass three times "No, I said . . .") I've tried a few of the sandwiches and enjoyed all of them. My favorite is the Elvis (pb, bananas and honey). One of these days, I want to try the Milkshakes. The last guy in the assembly line is extremely nice. He makes a point to thank each person uniquely.

Hopefully they will open one of these in the suburbs (other than Naperville) soon and hopefully it will be easier to find than this location! I wouldn't drive downtown just to eat here but if it was convenient I would. I love the whole concept of marking all your sandwich choices on the bag, handing it to them and viola you get your custom made sandwich without having to keep repeating what you want (Subway/Potbelly's), pointing at what you want (Subway) or having to yell over the "Chocolate Shake" announcements (Potbelly's).

What happens when you combine the goodness and quality of Potbelly's with the convenience and control of Subway? Which Which Sandwiches. This new sandwich place in loop just opened up in the last few weeks may give both companies a run for their money. You'll smell this place a mile away (esp since the place that i went to is located underground in the pedway) and you'll swear you are near a Potbelly. The aromas are similar and you'll find the bread and the way that the sandwiches are made is very similar to Potbelly's. The difference is the plethora of options that you have. They have 51 different sandwich options, not including the variety ingredients available - like breads, toasted vs not toasted, sizes, cheeses, spreads, sauces/dressings, veggies, and spices. They have as much and more different ingredient options than Subway and seem to be higher quality. But instead of spiting out your choices to a person behind the counter as you would at Potbelly's or Subway, you write it down on a paper sandwich bag ahead of time (while waiting in line) and turn it in at the register for the guys behind the counter to put together for you. 5-10 minutes later (depending on the line)...presto! Your sandwich is delivered at the other end of the counter. I had the vegetarian tomato and avocado sandwich on wheat, toasted, with just a mix of other ingredients that looked yummy to try. It was really good but I've gotta say, it tasted like something that i would get at Potbelly's but i got more/different ingredients. So this place is not (in my pallet) better than Potbelly's but i like the addl ingredient options and control of how i want my sandwich made. What i don't like is the prices, a 7" sandwich will take you back $6 - not including chips or drink that is $2.50 more. It's more expensive than Potbelly's and def more than Subway. You could argue that the premium ingredients and all the options are worth it - so you'll have to decide for yourself the value that this place brings. Overall, i like it and would go back to try another sandwich. The breakfast options looks good - esp since they are available all day.

I had lunch here today and was satisfied as always! I had the buffalo chicken sammy (my regular go to) and this time went with the large! I mean, what girl does that? I did because I know that every time I have the regular, I want more! No, its not because they are small. It is because they are so good that I want to eat until I feel sick to my stomach. Their one downside is it takes FOREVER to get your sandwich which is not okay when you are drooling for one of their yummy creations. The people behind this place need to take a hint from Potbelly and figure out how to speed things up.

I tried this place for early dinner before heading to class. And I was pleasantly surprised, once I figured out how to place my order. Whoever had the idea of putting a selection checklist on the bag was brilliant. The food was not so bad either, although I do have to agree with an earlier reviewer, the service was slow. I had a roast beef sandwich, with light trimmings on toasted wheat bread. Yum. Yes, the food quality is comparable to Potbelly's, although slightly pricier than both Potbellys and Subway. I like the idea and there are enough food options here to give it a try. This could make a good stop to grab a sandwich before lounging out on the grass at Millennium Park. I know I'll be back and would patronize them if another location opened up. Pros: Something for everybody, you check-off what you want, any miscommunication will be potentially be your fault (remember when your grade school teachers told you to mark the Scantrons clearly? Yeah, you have no one to blame but yourself if you made if this far in life and cannot properly mark a circle with a red marker), convenient for students, commuters, and those on jury duty. Cons: Slow service, items can get pricey (although not as bad as Jimmy Johns, where after loading up your sandwich, drink, and chips, you might have well gone to a diner and ordered real food), seats are designed to keep your time there at a minimum. To sum it up: Check it out.

I'm a little obsessed with this place - did you know there is survey info on your receipt where you get a coupon code to a free cookie? Of the wiches I've tried the grinder is my favorite followed by the no rye ruben. The thank you turkey is good too...

  • Mihir P.

I love the concept and the service but the execution is ho-hum. Grab a bag and check off what you want in your sandwich or salad then head over to the casheir to place your order. I eventually got a chicken parmesan salad. The dressing was served on the side and when I was trying to mix it in all the salad was falling out of the container. All the lettuce was iceberg which is almost void of nutrition. I wonder why restaurants still serve it.

One of my favorite lunch places, this place has all different ingredients to put on your sandwhich. what I mean is that it will boggle your mind how many different combinations you can make. Friendly staff, good prices, good location. I would only recommend not getting anything with crab meat and mayonaise. I don't think this is a good combination anywhere. Don't forget to write your name on the bag or you'll have to watch for your sandwhich to come up.

    (4)
  • Danny H.

Love it. You can be as creative as you want in putting together your sandwich, meaning there are endless combinations. The food is the fresh, the service is good, and the wait isn't long. I would recommend that you don't come in too late in the day (which I've done a few times) as they will run out of random ingredients and ruin the composition of your perfect sandwich. The only thing I would caution about is that for first timers the system can be extremely confusing. Paper bags and sharpies and what not... I had some trouble finding the place the first time, but just be sure to head to the basement level and you will find the restaurant there.

    (5)
  • Eric S.

Very good sandwiches, very good selection of toppings and meats. This isn't the place to go if you're indecisive, as you'll be choosing everything that goes on your sandwich / salad. But if you like that kind of thing, then you'll really like this place. A little pricier than I'd prefer, but considering the location, it's about average.

  • Katie M.

My mom tried this place while they were up in the northern suburbs once and wouldn't stop raving about how cute she thought it was. When I saw one was opening in the pedway, I've been poking my head in to see if it was open and finally, to my delight, the doors are open. I'll agree with an earlier review, it's basically the mutant offspring of a one-stand between Potbelly and Subway. Potbelly's quality with the options (and then some) of Subway. What I think sets Which Wich apart is the novelty of the "choose-your-own-adventure" ordering. You get to mark you choices on the way so you don't have to go down the line and change your mind 50 times deciding what you want. So if all you want is a simple ham and cheese sub, don't waste your time, but if you want to try some new flavors, Which Wich is a good option. I had the muffaletta which had just the right amount of olive salad so I could actually taste the meat. I am looking forward to coming back and trying out new combos and flavors.

I stopped by this place on Saturday afternoon, but since I had dinner plans, I just grabbed a menu. Monday afternoon, a co-worker wanted to go for a walk at lunch, so since I couldn't wait to try it out, I suggested we go here.. At first, it was a bit overwhelming and I unfortunately overlooked the menu on the wall. I just grabbed a bag and got to work selecting my options. There are SO many options to choose from, from the main ingredients (like ham, turkey, chicken, bean patty) to the toppings.. there are endless combinations and you could never run out of different ways to make your sandwich. I ordered the cordon bleu and didn't want it too messy, so just went with light mayo and mustard with mostly veggies. LOVED it!! The bread makes the sandwich! The house chips are fantastic, if you like kettle chips! I want to try the hand dipped shakes next! Customer service here is great! The cashier was friendly and the line person was very personable. If you don't smile after talking to him, then you're a grump! Can't wait to go back! I'm telling everyone about this place..

I came across Which Wich while I was in the Loop with a friend before going to a Blackhawks game, and in need of a quick, delicious dinner. What I fell in love with was the ordering concept--grab a bag from one of several types of sandwiches, and go from there. One thing I sort of dread about some other sub sandwich places is how tedious the ordering process can be "I want this... on this... with that..... and that... no, not that... yes toasted... a little of-- no, not that... that's it." And quite frankly, it's one reason I don't go to some of these places all that often--especially Subway. Being that it was atfer 5pm on a Friday, the place was practically dead, but very comfy. Friendly, quick service, too, and a flavor of locality with kids' drawings. Great location: located in the "basement level" of Block 37, next to the entrance to the Red Line station (the Blue Line entrance is up the hall). The price was definitely reasonable.

  • Elizabeth B.

I had the Caprese (tomato/mozzarella) (get it toasted) and a chocolate oreo milkshake + malt. The concept is nice, and like other reviewers mentioned, you don't feel rushed to know exactly what you want on your sandwich right away. The service was friendly and helpful. The turnaround on the sandwich-in-hand time was a little slow, but it could have been because I got mine toasted. The sandwich was *delicious*, I would definitely get it again. The milkshake was also spectacular. I encourage anyone to give it a whirl and next time I'll try something new.

One of the worst sandwiches I've ever had. The lettuce was wilted and tasted like it had been sitting out for days. The chicken salad was mostly mayo. The place was dirty, with no clean tables even though it was practically empty. Service was sad - acted like they were doing me a favor when I had to ask for the drink I ordered that they forgot.

Deeelicious and with so much variety you want to keep coming back for more. The Buffalo chicken sandwich is probably one of the best I've had and you can be as conservative or obese and you want to be! It's all about customization. The people who work here are great and the quality is high. It's on the lower level of the Block 37 mall and right outside of the red line station on the Pedway. You can't miss it!

I hate that every time i go here and its dead it takes like 10 min for someone to assist u... idk what their doing back there but they need a doorbell or some... -_- sandwiches are pricey for a little sandwich but the hand dipped ice cream is bomb!

I finally got around to coming here for lunch. I came with 4 colleagues and we all left full and happy. Reasonably priced, fresh ingredients, friendly service. However... SLOW. For a loop sandwich spot I thought they were painfully slow. Thankfully they were not too busy - probably because of their basement location. I will come back though because it's a decent fun place :)

I went in with some friends today. First off, it wasn't so busy so we got to order pretty quickly. There are so many choices of sandwiches to choose from it is overwhelming but awesome for those picky eaters out there. Grab a bag according to the category of your sandwich (vegetarian, Italian, breakfast, etc.) and then choose what you want on it. I loved it. Tasty and good prices. I tried the Italian pizzawich.... it was really good! Definitely gonna hit this spot more often!

I don't know about this place - the food is no better than an average torpedo sub place and the service was really lacking. They seemed really interested in not being interested with me. The cookie was really odd flavored for a chocolate chip cookie. Not a big fan of Which WHich.

so i have been on a quest to find the perfect cuban sandwich for the past 3 years. this place isn't the best, but its one of the better ones i've had and i would definitely recommend it. the line here looks intimidating at lunch, but it moves pretty quick. the seating can be a little weird since the line sort of snakes through the place, but no bigs. its a solid choice for a lunch sandwich place. i'll definitely be back, and the menu has lots to offer.

  • Megan M.

alright, let's start with the basics... first of all, it's located in the 'pedway.' born and raised in suburbia...like pleasantville suburbia, i had no idea what this meant. so for all you other pleasantville natives, this refers to the bottom floor of this building - like it's basement. I guess it connects to the underground trains (which i know have a name too, but i can't remember). second, 'block 37' is the loop's version of what we suburbians are accustomed to know as malls. in suburbia, malls are typically stand-alone, gigantic buildings. here in the city, i guess they're all just stuck to huge skyscrapers - all of which look the same. ok, so i'll admit it, i had a little (lot of) trouble finding this place. three months into working in the loop and i still have yet to figure out how everything works on to the sammiches!! which wich was definitely worth my (time-consuming) adventure. not your typical place - sammiches are completely customize-able! i went for the buffalo chicken... deli sliced chicken with all my favorite veggies and sauces. bread was mediocre, hot pepper mix was yumm. oh and how can i forget? i paid $1.94 for my sammy and a drink. gotta love those eclubs. (: yeah, its good, but not a place i'd go out of the way to eat at. clever though, real clever!
