Awesome neighborhood bar. Always my go to for a plan B or last minute decision. Bartenders are super friendly as well as the crowd.

Really enjoyed this place. Went there last night and the staff was top notch! Beers were properly priced, so good all around. I will definitely go back again.

I love this place, probably the most diverse bar in the most diverse neighborhood in one of the most diverse cities in America. Calling yourself "The Uptown Lounge" takes some balls, especially for a bar that didn't even exist 10 years ago, doubly so if you're right across the street from the Green Mill, owned by Al Capone in the 1920s, and which helped make this neighborhood internationally infamous. But it lives up to the promise of its name, by quietly attracting one of the most random and interesting crowds in the city. One night last spring, the place was empty, and then within what seemed like 20 minutes filled up with: (a) a black motorcycle gang, wearing full leathers and patches; (b) a bunch of pasty white middle-aged fat dudes, some in Dungeons & Dragons t-shirts, others in non-ironic Cosby sweaters (not judging, I own both); (c) the Latino crowd spilling out from some narcocorrido show at the Aragon (next door), sharp-dressed Mexican dudes in cowboy boots and their girlfriends in cameltoe shorts and super-short skintight dresses. As I sit here taking notes on my phone, a heavily tattooed blonde with a pixie cut is telling a random person at the bar how she's concluded that the Swans are really just a black metal jam band, while a burly off-duty CTA conductor (the Lawrence stop is across the street), still in uniform, does the NYT crossword, while a UFC bout plays on the HDTV above them. And I considered not mentioning this, but in the spirit of the "information wants to be free" ethic, I'll say it: The Uptown Lounge has the highest percentage of hot, single women drinking alone at the bar in the city. It's like a north side version of The Joynt, but with 20-something neighborhood denizens rather than Gold Coast cougars. It's not a big room, maybe 2000 sq ft, some couches surrounded by votive candles in the "lounge" area, and an elevated space that serves as a dance floor. Usually pretty empty early, gets crowded late nights, but everyone gets along. This can be a very tense neighborhood, but I've never witnessed a tense moment inside of here; if you're here, you're here to get fucked up, and there's an ecumenical camaraderie about that. Music ranges from internet jukebox to dj's just getting started to 80's videos that look like they were recorded on VHS. Beer selection is good, lots of obscure stuff, typical north side pricing.

This is my favorite bar in the city. Decent beer selection, great atmosphere. Nothing crazy or flashy at all but Saturday nights are amazing. Great place to relax with my girlfriends, drink beer and embarrass ourselves singing along to Queen. Adam, the Saturday night DJ, is incredible. Love!

This is small, with the modest design bar, however with the friendly atmosphere. The bartenders there really nice and can surprise you with their own special recipe it cocktail if you ask, which are pretty good .the other thing i like about this place is it works every day till 4am so if you desired to drink before go to bed, this is a good place to stop , unless you're looking for something fancy

We went on Saturday nite to celebrate a friends birthday. The drinks were over priced and under poored. The bartenders were not friendly. The manager walked around talking down to customers and didn't seemed like she wanted to be there. The only good thing, was the band. We will not be coming back.

I'm drunk so brave the story and spelling errors. Being new to the Uptown Neighborhood and used to the Wrigley night life and bar scene, I decided to check out the late night fun of the only busy place in Uptown. Around sixty people were in this place for the most part having a great time ( a couple in a booth were having too much fun...just go home and f~€k). The door guy checked my I.D. (weird cause I'm old, and look old) but he made me laugh cause I fell on my way in, and I thought for sure he was gonna push me back out the door. He has an intimidating look about him, almost a "I know how to make you regret your actions quickly and painfully" type of look but don't worry he's sociable. So, compass tattoo door guy remember me. The bartenders are beautiful, almost like you can pick the girl next door, or be whipped by the dominatrix. Regular prices are a bit high, but they had a show that night, and Karaoke is fun, but I wasn't drunk enough. Certainly has a dive bar atmosphere but with a little 70's flare thrown in with the booths. If you sit and people watch you get to see every bar patron stereotype within a few minutes being played out right I front of you. The creep taking pictures of the bartenders ass, the alcoholic, the recovering addict, newly 21 loud chic and her guy friends who pick up the bill, the quiet lonely guy who is looking for friends or anyone to talk to. Oh wait that was me this time, oops. Everyone working there was really cool and fun to talk to, even the massive dude near a creepy side-room. He is like a large teddy bear, but can probably hit like a grizzly. I recommend a bar seat near the entrance for people watching. The door guy will make you laugh as he scans every I.D. One girl didn't know her own middle initial, and instead of physically tossing her, like i see in wrigley, he just opened the door and pointed out. They left but kept trying to come back and argue with him calling him everything they could, still, he kept his calm and suggested another bar for them to try. They threatened to write a report even.. for what? If you want to get into a bar act like your able to get into a bar haha I was drunk, but i still know my middle initial. Staff makes it fun, and I even made some new drinking buddies, hell, they bought me enough shots and fed me cookies.

The neon martini sign in front was a-beckonin'. A decent 'bad-decision' bar... you know, the late-night kind. For me, the only bad-decision is to continue drinking, for others... it's probably a hook-up bar. In any case, it is a bit sketchy. A nice change from some of the others in this category (Nick's and Carol's come to mind), however, I didn't really care for the music. I believe a DJ was spinning some house/minimal type of mix. The bar itself is clean and spacious, and there's even plenty of tables so you can sit your arse down. Open 'til 4 am on Fridays, and 5 am on Saturdays.

Great location, really decent prices (even before shows at the Aragon) and very good waitress who rocked the booths like nobody's business. Great place to meet before a show in the 'hood. Staff is very friendly, again, especially the waitress. Decent sized space and easy to move around even when packed. No crazy lines for the bathroom, no bad attitude from the bartenders and healthy pours on the reasonably priced cocktails. Awesome music but don't even think about finding parking for a show.

Uptown lounge gets 2 stars instead of one only because the first time I came in (on a Tuesday) the bartender was totally sweet and welcoming. Two days later, I bring a few friends for someones first 21st birthday drink ever, and now there's a bouncer checking IDs at the door. Not a big deal, until he looks at my ID, says my name wrong, I correct him, he says it wrong louder one more time and follows that with, and I quote, "I don't give a shit what your name is, move the line along." 1) I WAS the line. Just one friend of mine was behind me so I'm not holding up the line jackass, especially since that exchange only took 10 seconds. 2) there's a total of 6 people in the bar and you're going to treat me like I'm some sort of peon, so far beneath you that you can't take 1 millisecond of your time to be a decent human being and greet a guest properly? In fact in this situation it would have taken LESS time to be nice than be a jerk. what kind of establishment wants a bouncer that verbally insults patrons as they walk in? Maybe if he were nicer I would have spent more than 15 minutes in there and bought more than one drink but that big meathead broski bro brah decided to act like a complete buttwipe and insult me so we ditched this place for Crew down the street and they were awesome!!! My entire group of friends were much happier there despite the earlier close time. Long story short don't waste your time here on any weekend night. They're desperately trying to seem cooler than they are by hiring douchebag bouncers and they don't deserve your business

Kept seeing signs for Uptown Lounge off the CTA and finally stopped in on a Saturday night. It was a great bar with a good variety of music. It is great you can grab a seat at a bar or even sit down at a booth without waiters coming over and taking your order!

This place was aight, my friend had a bday party here and they gave us the back room. I had a party once and had to give up the back room, but that was a bachelor party. The staff - nice, professional and not up in our grill. My drunken idiot friend walked out of the bar with his drink & when I worked the door, that was grounds for a smack down. But this guy was real chill. Points for that. Bartender smoking a cig outside was attractive and talked to me without a single eye roll or tounge click. Points for that. The drinks - LARGE beer selection. Didnt get to try a mixed drink but they looked good. Food - Didn't try it. No pool tables.

This is a great little bar. It never seems to be too crowded, and the beer selection is great for a bar of its size. The prices are a little higher than some other neighborhood bars, but not too bad, and the people are generally friendly. The location is great for public transportation.

  • Stephanie Y.

Went here last night for an event that my friend was associated with. It's a cute place, I think. Drink prices were decent, bartenders were attentive and sweet. Last night was focused on some DJs, so a lot of house music. I wish more people were dancing, I would have joined! If you live in the area, check it out. Open 'til 4am!

I love Uptown Lounge! I first went there on a blind date and it was a great, the date, not so much, but the establishment was superb. Everyone who works there was super chill, but accommodating. The music is good as well and they are open super late, which is always good. I returned twice, once with my girlfriend, who loved it and once with my then bf. We wanted a quiet night out after he got off work from another bar in LP, and Uptown was the destination. We had a good time and the music was pleasing the crowd has been very chill all three times that I have been there and the set up is pretty cool as well. This is a good little spot to go with a little older crowd and without the drunken foolishness of some other late night establishments. Check it out!

  • Jeff B.

Way too impressive of a beer selection to be a dive bar. Uptown broke my heart a little when they dropped the Breckenridge Vanilla Porter from its tap (though it is still available in bottles). It can be a bit much to handle on show dates for the Aragon or the Riviera (or God help you if it's both), but if you're in the neighborhood and you tire of seeing the same Anheuser-Busch lineup, and the Hopleaf is too crowded, it's a decent place to spend some time.

I've been to Uptown Lounge only for super-late-night drinking when there was a need for a dark corner and more booze. I can't say too much about the place because my face was either in my beer or latched on to a boy's; I wasn't really paying that much attention! :-X I do know that I felt like the bartender was cool, the bouncer friendly and the bathrooms were clean. That's about all I need in a drinking establishment that late at night. Close to home, open super late and good for making out. Win!

Not sure why you would ever go here? They seem to be feeding off overflow from Green Mill.. totally boring and no character when I stopped for ONE BEER!!! GTFJD

I love how cozy this place is. The people and staff are friendly too. Parking isn't difficult. I was here for a birthday and I enjoyed it. It's better than going to a club for a celebration.

The only other 4am bar I have been to is Burton's Place, so I just guessed that was the way of all late night bars. Apparently not... Uptown Lounge is a really nice spot. Open layout, friendly bartenders, clean bathrooms, lots of seating, music at a normal decibel, and Grandma's Boy was playing on the TV's. Score. Mixed drinks for $5.50 seems downright cheap. Maybe that is why I drank 29 of them in one sitting. Great location if you need to escape LV/LP, just hop on the red line, get off at Lawrence and go less than a block. The fratmosphere is low.

I'd been to Uptown Lounge for a friend's open mic earlier in the year. At the time I thought it was fine, but nothing special enough for me to return. Fast forward about six months and my friends are looking to have one last drink after Beer Hoptacular at the Aragon. Someone suggests Uptown Lounge so we go. It's fairly crowded but we're able to snag a booth as another party is leaving. I look at the menu and...whoa. Everything here seems way more expensive than I remember. We order anyway, but all agree the prices are about $2-$3 more than they should be ($8 for a Gumballhead bottle, $8 for a Breckenridge porter bottle, and a whopping $13 for a Dragon's Milk bottle - normal sized, not the big one). While we sat we noticed the bar tvs playing a weird mix - sports on the bar side, but Tru TV on the booth side. Service was fine, but no one was interested in staying beyond their one drink. I came to find out Uptown Lounge has a "normal" beer list and a "concert" beer list and that, indeed, the concert one has prices raised by a few dollars. That strikes me as really slimy and I don't think the other bars in the area do it. Nothing about Uptown is impressive and I'll be heading over to Green Mill, Crew, or Fat Cat for future post-show drinks.

Perfect easy going lounge in the middle of my uptown. I've lived here for over twenty years and this kind of lounge wasn't happening back in the day. Nice staff too. Be sure not to get shooshed, music is very serious here, they will actually turn a spotlight on you. Of course NOT ! But you will get shooshed

Uptown lounge is one of my favorite lounges to visit. I've hardly ever been here and not been able to find somewhere to sit and relax with cocktails. I love their chocolate martini's and the best part is that they offer $5 martini's on Wednesdays except during concerts in the area. The staff is super cool and I love the juke box.

It is a shame that I lived 20 years in Uptown and this was my first time at Uptown Lounge. My friends and I came here for drinks after Ribfest. We scored a cozy booth and people watched from there. I spent $20 on four beers. Yay! We were here on a Saturday night; I hear drinks are half off on Sundays. The place was full, but not crowded. The bartender was attentive.

    (4)
  • Julia C.

Good chill place, unless a concert is happening. If there its a concert, prices are raised and the tools and posers from the concert show up and ruin a perfect spot. Once they came over, they took over and the nose level went to unnecessary levels. So we took off for another place.

Not a bad place. We went as part of a large group last night and had a pretty good time. Small seating area, though I did like their seating in kind of cozy, u-shaped booths a lot. We got pretty decent service - the bartender was attentive and our tables were kept cleared - and DH seemed happy with his beer selections. Not sure it's somewhere I would go out of the way to visit but if we happened to be in the area again, we wouldn't specifically pass it up.

I remember when Uptown Lounge first opened (shakes cane in air, furrows brow). The bartender was very friendly and charming, made me a delicious chocolate martini, and gave me my second one for free. We went back few times but haven't really been there much since. Fast forward to February 2009. With fond memories of Uptown Lounge, we headed back on a Saturday night to meet up with friends. My chocolate martini was served in a ridiculously small glass. And it wasn't any cheaper than a normal-sized one at similar places. Bartender wasn't friendly but wasn't mean, just kind of blah. The crowd is interesting. Some gay guys in their 40s and 50s, some trixies who seemed to have accidentally wandered north of Irving Park, a few couples nuzzling in the booths, and a handful of hipsters. At midnight or 1, a dj came in with his Mac laptop and it was all B96 up in there. Do we really need to listen to Britney Spears this loud? Our conversation ceased to exist. I wasn't impressed with Uptown Lounge but if I go back it probably won't be during peak hours.

I like this place. But be forewarned...it's a late night, after hours bar which tends to attract an unusual mix of people desperately seeking that "last" drink of the night. Kinda campy, but very fun, and the staff is wonderful, laid back, and friendly. The specials change all the time and the food is decent. And they are accommodating. Last time I was there I stayed for hours and found myself dancing ridiculously around the entire bar with my friend. Although we were the only ones dancing at some moments, nobody seemed to care (or maybe it just seemed that way to me!) Either way, the staff remained friendly, and the customers there are usually good natured. Happy to have this place in my hood. Recommend you go take a look.

uptown is a great place to go if you want something low-key and non-fancy. you can order some food from the bar (your run of the mill, mozzarella sticks, chicken strips, etc.) that comes from the place next door. they have board games and 2 of those electronic touch-screen games at each end of the bar. the bartenders are super nice, too. we always end up going on monday nights. it's nothing crazy at all, you can sit and catch up with a friend without it being too hectic or noisy.

Uptown Lounge is a great place to hit up after a show at the Aragon Ballroom or the Riviera Theater. They got some good deals and a great selection of beer on tap and bottled. The place is big too. Plenty of seating and dancefloor, plus a second pool room. As a DJ, I dig their set up...2 Technics 1200's and the Pioneer DJM-500, as well as a dual deck Denon CD player with pitch control, loops, and a cool break feature that allows you to slow down the song like a record. If you're looking to party, this place is good 'cause there's no cover and it's open 'til 4am (and 5 on Saturdays). The music selection is a bit eclectic. But if you're looking for rock, punk, and metal music I suggest going on Thursdays.

  • An P.

Normally, I like this place because they have a good amount of beers on tap and the lounge atmosphere is really cool with regards to comfortable seating, spacious area, and it's open til 4am which is nice if you don't feel like paying cover at Green Mill or experiencing the loudness of Kinetic Playground. My cousin swears it's a gay bar, but it didn't seem that way to me. There is usually a DJ here, but I can't recall the music being exceptional or anything like that. I ordered a Fat Tire and found it to be completely flat which had the effect of slowing down my drinking big time. What really bothered me on my last visit some Somali cab driver was totally staring at my friend and making obscene / rude gestures. I know he was Somali because he was harassing me outside about my friend. To reiterate 1) While it's open late, the Uptown scaries come out late at night. 2) You're not going to lose an arm or leg here, but you might get handed a flat beer! 3) The Red Line and Lawrence bus run all night in case you need to plan an exit, luckily it is easy to find a cab.

  • Jacob J.

Sketchy. Definitely after hours only. Not many reasons to go earlier. Check out karaoke on Sunday nights. Shit, they're open till 4am. Chocolate martini's are not good. Why would you order one, look at this place. They have specials... come'on order one of those instead. The alc pour is heavy, tip well. There isn't a norm here. Its just Chicago people, that wanted to keep a good feeling going. The lot isn't theirs, so you have to search for street parking.

If I ever get dragged to Tai's 'till 4 again, I will stab myself in the face. Was that lurid enough? Deciding on a bar open past 2am is difficult...there are plenty of options, but they often become a last ditch effort to find your Mr./Ms. "Right Now." Uptown Lounge cannot consider itself above this force of nature; however, they do provide very decent drinks, comfy booths and ample floor space in which to watch the nightly game of beer-goggle hook-up. The music is random depending on the "dj" last time I was here, it was Hammer Time....and the women's restroom has three stalls (this alone gets a star) I can't complain enough about bars that have a single stall in the ladies. I mean really? Beer+Bladder+Woman=constant tinkle, hello!

The Uptown Lounge seemed to be home to gay men who are in that in between phase of life, were they haven't officially come out yet. The Female population consistent of the bartenders, my friend and i and some other chick there...MEN RULED THE LAND, and they seemed totally-completely FINE with that. store front windows, high ceiling, plenty of sitting room, dj-dance space, clean washrooms, and a second room with a pool table with couches..relaxed kewl. I had a good time here, just stayed for one drink, but the guys were friendly...my friend and i got in on a pool game, i met another fellow yelper, Good times, I'd definitely come back

I really never go here unless I'm looking to stay out till 4 a.m. It's usually a bad decision, as most 4am bars are. I can't comment too much on the drinks as at this point in the night it's usually anything goes for drinks. Easy to get to with the red line right there. Not bad for after shows at the Aragon I suppose too. Most of the Lincoln Square bars close around 2 or 3 latest. Easy to hop in a cab over here for that night cap your brain is misleadingly telling you that you need.

  • John L.

Kimberly B. is right. The DJ on Friday night plays some good funky house music. The atmosphere is loungy, but not overpriced at all, and the crowd didn't seem pretentious like you see at many lounges and the service was great. I think it's better for groups rather than couples who want to chat. And it's a great place to either end a pub crawl or to start a certain-to-be late night of drinking. I haven't heard Evelyn "Champagne" King's "Love Come Down" since college. My roommate had an 80's compilation that we'd play when we hosted parties! And a night of drinking isn't complete without doing the "Guy" to the Stones' "Miss You." The "Guy" is the dance move of the future. You'll be seeing this move at all the clubs before you know it. If you ever meet me, just ask. Or not.

Great little bar hidden away near the Lawrence red line stop in Uptown. We came here to meet a prospective wedding vendor (a DJ, whom we hired on the spot). The place was pretty empty, save for a few lingerers drinking away their sorrows after the Cubs lost the first playoff game (don't want to peak too early, I say). I'm told the bar gets very hopping in the wee hours, since it is one of the only 4 am bars around. I dig the decor -- classy, sexy, yet comfortable. $4 Hacker Schorr specials -- yes please! The drinks are very reasonably priced here, and seems they have specials just about every night of the week. I get the feeling that it's a very chill atmosphere, even on crazy weekend nights. Not as gay as Crew, not as hipster as Fat Cat -- just a cool place to drink and hang with friends. Uptown Lounge is one more reason to love this little strip of Broadway. I'd like to return on a weekend night to see it in its full late night glory, but for a casual beer on a Wednesday evening, it was perfect.

I actually loved this place. Came here in the middle of the day while I was getting my car fixed across the street. Wonderful food the Po boy Wrap amazing :) Our server was super friendly. The staff was all very happy (which is unusual during the day considering it wasn't busy = no money) So I guess that means they really were having fun and seemed to like their jobs which is refreshing today:)

I love Uptown Lounge! All of the girls who work here are awesome. This is the place to go if you feel like having a night out on the razzle, meaning being able to drink until 4 in the morning! Different specials every night, and always filled with regulars. A+ compared to all the other four am's!

This place isn't my favorite bar I've ever been to, but it was okay. I came here with a couple buddies for a friends birthday and we had a good time, but the bouncer and bartender didn't seem to enjoy the scene quite as much as we did. We left early mainly cause we got kicked out a little bit. Maybe I'll come back some day... maybe.

There aren't many options for 4am bars in Uptown, but The Uptown Lounge is all you need to end a great night out. Having just moved out of Lakeview, I'm used to having late night options in this area (The Closet, Charlie's, Nick's Uptown, etc.). Even with these options, none of those places would receive a four star review compared to Uptown Lounge. You really see just how diverse Uptown is when you walk into this bar around 2:30 am. This place is always playing some great music and maintains a relaxed and pre-2:00 am atmosphere (read: everyone is not wizasted and falling down drunk). The bar's layout is open enough to be able to chat with new people - the first time I went with a group of friends, a couple of guys invited us to join them in their large booth and we had a great time getting to know them. Bottom line: if it's 2am and you're not ready to go home, then stop by The Uptown Lounge for a fun and friendly atmosphere and very reasonably priced drinks (domestics are only $3.50 on a weekend!). Definitely not you typical late night bar.

I can see this place getting crazy at times, in a good way! The crowd seemed to be 20 somethings, laid back, There were a few couples kissing in the booths, but thats normal... wherever theres a booth and dark lighting. haha The drinks were small but strong. I liked the chill atmosphere and it was good to be able to hear the person next to you. Its far from my house but I'd venture here again.

Happy Pete is gone, but I wish there was a way to undo the damage he has done. I don't hang out here as much as I use to, and I'm not sure what could change that; I'm still disappointed in the owners for allowing the last manager to totally ruin the atmosphere of this place.

After my last visit to Uptown Lounge last Friday, I really want to give this place 1 star. I'm going to be more fair than that. See what kind of a level headed Yelper I am? I've been to this bar 5 or 6 times I guess. It's very nice on the inside, very loung-ey. Drinks are fine, jukebox is good. One piece of advice- go late. When I've been there after too many at other places, this place is heaven. I went there around 9-ish last week and had one of the shittiest bartenders I've ever had. No greeting, no what can I get you- nothing. I felt I was seriously inconveniencing this chick and taking her away from flirting with her hipster/frat-boy buddy at the other end of the bar. The only attention my end of the bar got from her afetr my initial beer was when she brow beat this poor drunken cheese-head who had the nerve to light a cigarette not knowing that you can't smoke in Chicago. When he fled the bar from her shrieking, she turned her attention to his companion, who apparently comes here occasionally. She then gave him shit. I was afraid I was gonna be next. We left after that. She killed it.

My boyfriend and I decided to go out for Martinis so we tried Uptown Lounge for the first time. They have $5 Martinis on Thursday, which is a pretty great deal. I got a fruity rum martini (suggested by the bartender) and it was pretty good. It had a good amount of rum and it and was tasty. For my second drink I had a Banana Chocolate Martini and it was amazing. The chocolate martinis here are no joke. It's so refreshing to have a chocolate martini that's not nasty. The vib here is chill and was pretty open when I was here. I will def be going back for $5 martinis.

This is a nice place to chill in an eclectic neighborhood that could use a few more bars to cater to the locals and concert goers. It is somewhat lacking in enough seating, but it is dark, loungy and purrrfect for hanging with friends. The service is fairly prompt, and the drinks are decently priced. There are great booths located in front of large, street-side windows, which are outstanding for checking out the Uptown scene, and unbelievable architecture. It is located almost directly across the street from the Lawrence Red line stop, and about a 1/2 a block from the #36. Uptown itself is a must see neighborhood in Chicago, and The Uptown Lounge is a good place to start lookin and hangin. Other hot spots in the neighborhood: The Green Mill Fat Cat

Stopped at the Uptown Lounge after Rib fest this year. We decided to go there because we were with a large group and the place was empty. After entering we could see why it was empty. The manager couldn't have been more rude. It is pretty obvious why the place is empty. I should have known after living a block away for 5 years there is a reason why we don't go there. Sure hope they find a friendly management staff. The bartender and door guy were so sweet too, what a shame!

A pretty uninspired lounge that Chicago has too many of. I'm certain that I'm not the target audience for this drinking establishment. 6:00 PM, Friday night, music too loud for an empty bar, no decent gin. And a bit pricey for what you get: $6 for a half (small glass) bombay sapphire and tonic water. A great neighborhood deserves a quality drinking establishment and this ain't it.

The bar itself is really nice, with some original artwork depicting Uptown and comfortable furniture. They are trying to keep the "house music" scene alive, which isn't my favorite, but they have a nice sound system and a nice setup. The bathrooms are clean, which is a bonus. If you're in the neighborhood, not a bad place to stop in.

I was pretty disappointed by the Uptown Lounge. The locals all tell me how chill it is. It is indeed chill, however it lacks one thing...fun. The bar is full of single guys, who are all waiting for the cute waitress to come and chat with them. If you get one thing here, it's great personal attention! These waitresses spend time chatting with all the guys in there. The only problem is that every guy in there is under the impression that he has a chance, so these poor slobs keep going back, and keep tipping big. They never knew what hit them... The first time I went there, it was because a friend of a friend needed a Wingman. So as we stroll in, I notice that it's a complete Sausage fest in there. Then I realize that the girl he wants help with works there. Now I know two things...Don't hit on the staff...because every other guy in there is doing it...and two...if she flirts back, she is seeking big tips... You can check it out for yourself, but really, just take my word for it. Don't bother.

Chill, low-key place, that defines upscale dive bar -- with booths lining the left side of the bar and dim sexy lighting. DJs spinning different types of music throughout the week. We happened to go on vintage rock night, and he played all the James Brown, David Bowie and Rolling Stones we wanted. Cheap drinks and friendly people too. We even saw a Chicago PD guy on-duty personally deliver dinner to our bartendress...lol We were there for a $3 u call it shot special. What was that occifer?!?

One of the coolest spots in the city. Hip people. Not a pretentious vibe whatsoever. Open late.

the first few times, i loved it. through my drunken 2-3am haze, i relished the reasonably priced drinks, chill dancy lounge vibe, and friendly people i always met there (usually playing pool). then the haze cleared up a bit, and i realized, hold up- am i really paying $1.50 for every game of pool on their one table? is it just me, or is the same dude really always chillin at the bar when i arrive, and then slowly following me into the pool room to try and get in on my game? isn't that one bartender who is always serving me kind of a dbag? the answer to all of these questions is yes. and that's lame. but really, what else am i gonna do when the other bars close and i don't feel like trekking across town or going to bed? i'm sure i'll be back.....

I like this place because it's almost never busy. I guess that's not really a good thing though. I don't go during peek times though, so that might have something to do with it. It's a good place to go if you just want to hang out and chat with someone. I must admit that although I'm usually not a chick drink kinda gal, they have the best chocolate martini's I've ever had.

I went up here on a Saturday night late to see a friend perform. I remember when the bar changed hands and went from a traditional 'dive' to the new and improved upscale-y place that it is today, back when I used to live in Uptown. I never did go there back then, so I had no idea what to expect. The space is nice. Long bar, filling the right side of the room. The left side is low tables and booths. Big clean bathrooms. There is another room off to the side where the performances are, but it was so packed, we couldn't even get in. We sat at the bar and watched baseball highlights and drank overpriced beer. The bar was full of dudes in baseball caps and flip flops and girls in heels and big earrings. It was pretty much a 2 to 1 ratio. And at the one point when my companion got up to use the facilities (leaving his beer and smokes at his stool, with me sitting with my arm across his stool for good measure), someone tried to take it and I got a dirty look for my polite "Um, that stool's still taken, sorry." Yep, won't be going back there, even if it is pretty.

I've heard about how great this bar was, so I decided to check it out. Upon entering, I was greeted by the owner, and I explained to her that it was my first time there. She thanked me for coming, introduced me to her staff, and found my friend and I a seat at the bar. Super accommodating! And our bartender Megan was absolutely wonderful. The entire staff was incredibly welcoming and the relaxed atmosphere was refreshing. I'll be returning more regularly.

I have only been here on a Wednesday night. Its usually not too crowded even after the other bars around close up. you'll see a handful of regulars sitting around, nose in their drink, or staring at the television which usually has some sports channel on. The Dj's spin a mix of new wave, synth pop, industrial, and shoe-gaze. I love the fact that it is roomy even for a small space. That plus it IS a late night bar, which I haven't found too many of this far north. Parking can be a bit tedious, especially if the surrounding venues are having events on that night.

Located in uptown right off of the El near Riviera and the Aragon. Its a small loungy room that's framed with tall-backed couches and a long wooden bar. Music is hit or miss. Karaoke as well. Open late the whole week. Hours: 4 p.m.-4 a.m. Sunday through Friday; 4 p.m.-5 a.m. Saturday

Please note, I've never been after 2am when I hear more people filter in. Every time I've been, it's been absolutely dead. That is totally fine, but I admit I do like being at a place with more than 5 others in attendance. Also if you come before the late hours, don't expect very good table service, sit at the bar. The place is a good neighborhood stop before you go somewhere else, but I think Fat Cat might be a strong rival in the neighborhood.

Cool typical no bullshit Chicago neighborhood bar. Bartenders have always been good, no pretense. The beer is cold, the drinks are fair...what else do you want in an upscale dive bar. And the clientile is a very cool mix of everything...

This is definately the place to go late night on Fridays. I'm not sure about the other nights, but if you like house music, their Friday night dj is amazing. He's incredibly talented and knows how to please the crowd with great funky Chicago house music. Drinks are super affordable and as an added bonus they are open until 4am. There is a bar, a dancefloor and even some couches/booths for lounging. I like that it's not a huge place and is busy enough to have a lot of fun, but not too overcrowded. You won't wait forever to get a drink and there's room to dance. Everyone who's there seems really chill and I feel like it's a great place to go without having to worry about random obnoxious people hitting on you all night. However, if you are in the singles scene, there always seem to be a good number of hotties there that aren't super pushy =) Even the door guys seem to be having fun and joking with people as they check ids. Which in my opinion is a nice added bonus in place of the guys who stand there looking tough, glare at you and your id and then let you in. The only reason this place is getting 4 stars and not 5 is because I have no idea how it is on any other night. ;)

I went here before a Morrissey concert and it wasn't a bad place. The atmosphere is nice and the drinks were good. I'll have to go back to get a better idea of what it is like without the concert crowd.

Place is ok, it is open until 4am. A PBR was 4 bucks... It is pretty lounge like inside. I think it might be better after 2 am, but I wouldn't hold my breath! Seems as though it is trying to be something it's not... Like cool. Not my favorite place to go, but i'll return for a drink cause it's close by. It is conveniently located across the street from the red line, which is nice also!

Who doesn't love to find somewhere you don't have to be surrounded by 20 something year olds in Cubs gear and tight black pants? Me, that's who. This bar is GREAT. A friend just took me last weekend and we went early. When I say "early," I mean at 9pm where there were only 2 other people in the bar with the Olympics on. We sat at the bar to be closer to the TV, but I adore the couches and vibe they have going on there. The bartenders were good, the drinks even better. Even the bouncer was super friendly. I'll definitely make this part of my regular haunts, there was plenty to make me want to come back for more.

I had a very good time here. I was surprised to see how busy it was on a Saturday night. I guess I never think of Uptown as a destination spot, considering I usually leave my neighborhood to go out. The have really nice round booths. The juke box is pretty annoying I think I heard "American Girl" three times. But on highlight was the entire bar singing to Styx "Come Sail Away"- Which I guess could be pretty annoying but really its Styx so you kinda have to smile. This place was pretty much a drunken debauchery. So it was pretty fun to people watch. And it is some what chill- I mean the Lesbians making out in the middle of the bar where pretty quiet. No all and all it was a variety of people, most likely cause it was on a Saturday. But if you are ever in the neighborhood to see a show at the Aragon or the Riv its a pretty nice spot.

Decent bar to hit up during the weekday. On Wed. they have $4 Guinness, however, my bf said they were water down. I just don't understand how Uptown, Fat Cat, Green Mill can charge so much for thier drinks when we are at 4800 North! We aren't downtown, we are in the heart of sketchy neighborhood and viet town, so I'm not sure how they lure people.

    (3)
  • Eric X.

"Nice and easy", that's how it feels at Uptown Lounge. This is usually my intermediary stop before hitting Green Mill, so I don't spend a lot of time here. The bartender is usually nice (and cute), and so (for that shallow reason) it gets four stars.

Pretty good place to grab a cocktail before a concert at the nearby Aragon or Riviera. Not exactly in a pedestrian friendly area, but I've walked here in the summer when I didn't feel like hanging out in the local bar. Young crowd for the most part and they usually group off into the couches that occupy one-half of the room. I usually go up to the bar where I can meet and talk with others--most are pretty friendly. Drink prices are average for a lounge and have an ok selection of beers and booze. DJs play on weekends I think and it doesn't get overly loud or smoky. If you go during a concert night you probably won't find any parking on Lawerence--the surface lot down the street will charge $18.00 for the concert goers, but you may find something not too far down on Broadway. Overall, small, pretty average lounge--but that might be just what you're looking for...

I like Stevey's description "upscale dive bar." Sometimes there's a pretty David Lynch-esque crowd here (picture a pacific-asian non-gender-specific lip syncher hanging from one of the poles by the dance floor)... but it's got a good vibe, good music and awesome bartenders, perfect for a late night stop in Uptown. Check it out.

I don't dislike many places but this one is so extremely overpriced with no justifications for said prices that it deserves to go out of business. A bottle of Corona for $6 in Uptown? How can that be justified... I can go to just about any downtown bar or restaurant and get that for $4 easily. $7 Stella, $4 PBR - the prices are just a joke but this is not even the worst part of this bar. We asked for a water and was told their tap was not working and we had to buy a $3 bottle of water. I am pretty sure its a health code violation - you have to have water on your tap let alone selling water that they bought at Costco for $3 a case and making a profit is a disgusting business practice. I took my empty $7 draft beer glass went into the stinky bathroom and filled it up with tap water from the sink. Which btw the bathrooms are filthy and make your clothes smell like urinal cakes the rest of the night. I only go here before shows maybe twice a year and every time everyone i am with hates it. I will not go back here ever.

Pretty lame. This place is trying to be way hipper than it is. Seems like an odd mix of neighborhood pub and nite club, and doesn't really succeed in either.

This place replaced the Saxony, one of the more unique dive bars in the city. Expect mostly boring ass house music here, overpriced drinks, and kind of a yuppie crowd. The interior is pleasant enough but I haven't really met too many cool people here, and did I say the music sucks? It does... although one or two nights I heard something ok which saves it from one star, that and it's got a pretty mellow atmosphere and good seating, nice bathroom, etc. Just boring though!

this is a cool bar that is open until 4am. the waitress we had was nice and fast. i was in there a few days ago they were playing mostly dropkick Murphys and flogging molly because its close to st. Patrick's days.its a good sized bar not too big not too small. this is not the bar to try and use a fake the check ids at the door

One of my favorite bars to just hang out and chill. Not too wild, gets really busy when there is a concert. Bartenders are all great. Not only is it chill, but they play really good music. Jazz, blues, house, you name it. Definitely have to recomend this spot

nice 4 oclock bar with a clean, urban feel to it. if you like a bar with occasional dj's, nice booths and a diverse crowd- this is a nice option for uptown/ edgewater area. the bartenders are always cool and the manager makes a point to take care of regulars. has the vibe of a cool, wicker/west loop bar in the north hood.

I'm not at all surprised that Uptown Lounge doesn't have many 5-star ratings nor many 1 & 2-star ratings. It's solid. Nothing special and definitely not bad. I often come here for Monday night and Thursday night football games because I don't get them on my TV and these guys do. Service is friendly, they have a good selection of beer... and that's really all I care about. If you want a bar, this is a bar. If you want something flashy, this isn't flashy. Take it for what it is and you'll have a good time.

A really chill 4 AM bar - great location to pop by after a concert at the Riv. Clean and nicely designed. Our waitress was a little overeager, but that's not a bad thing. Nice booths, great for big groups and clean bathrooms. Love it!

My friend and I wandered here after spending time at The Spot. We liked the fact that we were able to get a booth and they played house music. The crowd was an interesting mix and seemed to be having a good time. So far I think its a pretty cool after hours place...I would come back.

I can literally crawl from this joint, to my bed in 5 minutes. I've done the tests. Want to just have a drink or 15 and stay out until 4 AM? Uptown Lounge has you covered. Excellent people watching here. All walks of life, which is reflective of Uptown itself. Great bartenders and nice comfy booths.

Stopped in this past Thursday before the Mastadon/Gojira show at the Riv. Met a friend from out of Town for a couple drinks and I must say i was very impressed. For 2 reasons. 1.) They had Anti-Hero which I enjoy and 2.) My favorite band DOWN came on the jukebox which made the experience that much better. I will def come back when i'm around the neighborhood. The bartender was cool and everyone had a good vibe...maybe they were just happy it was 80 degrees last thursday. Rock on ~

The rating is between 3/4. 4 it's. I have been here few times on weekday and the place has decent crowd+regular. It's a nice chill/roomy place. Quite a clean place. They have a pretty big beer selection but I didn't try any since I'm not into beer. I tried their extensive list of martinis. I had quite a few and I liked all the one I tried. They have a nice kick to them and tasted delicious. I'm into the flavored martini side instead of the dry/gin side. The two bartender ladies I met were quite mellow and real. Nothing to complaint about the service.

  • Alex U.

The place was pretty empty for a Friday night, maybe it's more of a late night place? The bartender was pretty neutral, smiles go a long way for me. She did however, let me taste a beer they had on tap which saved me the trouble of getting a pint of beer I didn't like. The tap selection was mediocre at best. They seemed to have many a brew in bottle form though.

The uptown lounge turned out to be the intermezzo stop for me while heading over to the aragon for the flaming lips show. And, what a nice intermezzo it was. Granted, it was hard to switch from hopleaf, but that can't be held against the uptown lounge. It was clear that a lot of the people there were doing what me and my friend were doing. There was a decent crowd, but it wasn't hard to find a seat. While the beer selection was solid, it did feel like a better selection would really make the uptown lounge. Its in a great place and can draw a good crowd

I would consider myself a official fan of uptown lounge, especially since they stay open until 4 a.m., with the exception of Saturday where they keep the party going until 5am. The times that I have gone, I've had the pleasure of listening to some good live music, hilarious karaoke, and good DJ's. They do have really great Drink specials. Every time I went the drinks seem to be reasonably priced even on the none special day's. They are also mixed really well. The bartenders are very friendly and totally make you feel welcome. There is plenty of room for you to relax as well, be it at the bar, in one of the cozy booths by the dance/performance area, or at one of the tables. Patrons sitting around the bar are always up for a conversation and the walls behind it have plenty of flat screens if you just don't want to be bothered with having conversations. I recommend this lounge to anyone just leaving from a club or something and your just not ready to call it a night. This lounge provides you the best of both worlds, open late and fun people. In terms of parking you can park either around the corner for street parking but make sure you don't leave anything valuable on your seats in your car. Their are quite a few homeless people who walk up and look into the car windows to see if they can find something to motivate them to break into your car.

Came in here for karaoke night with some pals. Open late, which is a big plus for me. The bar itself was pretty bare, but staff was nice and everyone in the bar watching karaoke was supportive of the people on stage. Chill vibes. My only tip is watch out when you're drunkenly leaving because the step out to the front door is lifted and I totally crashed in front of a group of strangers smoking on the sidewalk. Oops.

What immediately had me sold on this place - they're open every day until 4 a.m., with the exception of Saturday where they keep the party going until 5 in the morning! The couple of times that I have gone, I've had the pleasure of listening to some good live music - one band and one solo artist; both great. Uptown Lounge does a great job at bringing in some awesome local talent. Im not a huge fan of beer, but they have more than 100 craft beers available! Drink specials are always available, definitely worth indulging in ($4 "you call its" got me in sooooo much trouble last week) and the bartenders are very friendly and totally make you feel welcome. There is plenty of room for you to relax as well, be it at the bar, in one of the cozy booths by the dance/performance area, or at one of the tables. Patrons sitting around the bar are always up for a conversation and the walls behind it have plenty of flat screens that Im sure I will be able to yell at this football season. GO BEARS! :-)

My new favorite local watering hole in my new hood of Uptown. Located right off of he Lawrence Red Line Stop its a very cool spot to hit up. Not a whole lot of seating available so you may have to stand on a Fri or Sat night. Great beer selection here...draft & bottles. You can even buy a six pack from them if you want to take some to go action. They sometimes have a DJ here or some pretty good live music. They do not serve food here so do not come by expecting to grab a quick snack to soak up your alcohol. Yeah, I think this place will get to know me real well

When you're alone and life's making you lonely you can always go, UPtown. When you've got worries; all the noise and the hurry. Seems to help, I know, UPtown. Listen to the noise of L and traffic in the city. Where the neon lights are so pretty. You can forget all your troubles, forget all your cares and go UPtown! Bar conveniently located by rad places like the Green Mill, myriad restaurants, and the L. These guys are really trying. The joint is a bit classed up. And they have events practically every night from what I've witnessed and saw on signs in the washroom (when has anything on the wall of a bathroom been a lie?). The booths by the windows are cool for natural light or people watching. But my first visit a guy knocked on the window while I was listening to my companion talk. I turned and this. Um Person. Had his face smushed against the glass, clawed at it, and cackled menacingly. I squealed and grabbed my partner in terror. The second visit a guy did something similar. In retrospect, it's kind of amusing. Knock, knock. Who's there? You don't want to look. They have Daisy Cutter. It's always pretty empty. The music is very weird: Chumba Womba, Eve 6, Spice Girls? And way too loud for no one being there. If I didn't pierce my partner's eardrums from my shrieks it surely would. We have to yell at each other making convo. The staff is very nice and it's okay for a bop in after hitting another spot in the area. That's the crux of their appeal. Just avoid window booths, maybe. UPtown everything's waiting for you.

Been trying to explore more Uptown dives, and I really want to like Uptown Lounge. Music is good, atmosphere isn't bad, but I'm not a beer person so I decided to get two neat bourbons and friend got a single cocktail: $32 total, way too overpriced. It may be a better place for beer lovers, but liquor is too expensive

This is the definitive North side bar - especially if you are going to a music venue in the area like the Riviera or The Aragon. There is tons of space and the beer is good and cheap!

I liked the inside of the bar. Decor was simple, nice layout. The bartender on this Tuesday night did not seem to be interested in being there or serving customers. I also paid $11 for a single Makers Mark on the rocks. That is WAY overpriced. My friends got one Jameson and two bottles of cider for $17. I will likely not return.
