I accidentally left an amazing review for this place on Mom's Old Recipe. I love this place. Their shrimp quesodillas were the best thing ever. The shrimp was cooked to perfection and they didn't over power them with onions, I for one hate onions all together. the fact I could taste them and not hate them is an A plus in my book. The best part is they DONT WATER DOWN THE SALSA VERDA. Is thick and smooth and just enough spice as a salsa should be. No TBK quality here. The only flaw is that when their phone is busy, they have a little girl rambling off the other number you should call to order. I called three times before I got through because I couldnt understand her.

Good food, good service, seems very clean. We enjoyed our food and they were very accommodating to my husbands food restrictions.

Great for both take out and dine in. The service for dine in is almost always a wonderful young man who is extremely attentive. The food is excellent and so is their prices. I usually always get the steak quesadilla or steak tacos. So happy this place is close to my home.

I feel as though I have no choice but to give these guys 5 stars given the fact that there's obviously a couple of hater on here giving it one star ordinarily I would have given it four stars. There vegetarian tacos are amazing, I usually get rice beans cilantro onions and avocados on it its super fresh super tasty. If you call later on in the day you can get fresh homemade tamales AMAZING!!!! Not to mention whoever I talk to on the phone or in person are always extremely polite and super nice! Bottom line is I love this place go there all the time food is always fresh food is always good!!!

Unfortunately I'm not able to leave zero stars. Please keep in mind this same situation happened to me twice... My family waited an hour and a half for six tostadas, only for me to call and find out that after the hour and a half they still hadn't prepared them. When you order dinner at five and have to call at 7:30 to find out you won't be having that for dinner with three young kids is very disappointing. Their food is good but it's not worth waiting two hours for. When I called and asked why no one had called me the woman's response was, "well ma'am we are really busy..." Clearly! They said they would add something to my order or gladly cancel it. I think after waiting almost 2 hours your food should be free? Just my thought. We will never order from there again. And if you do order I suggest you ask what the wait time is.

I ordered 1 steak 1 chicharron taco. The chicharron was drenched in the same green salsa you already get a huge trio of bowls of salsa that come w the chips. I took one bite. And no I didn't want soggy chicharron. Showed the waitress. She took it back and I asked for just another steak taco. Still got charged for it. Chips are stale. Steak dry and overcooked. Bland beans . Nonexistent service.

We order takeout burrito dinners regularly. Fast service, friendly staff, delicious! Love the al pastor pork and their Mexican rice.

Pretty good food overall and the steak is very good. They used to have the best super nachos out there, but sadly they are terrible now. I thought that perhaps it was just a mistake, but a second bad order of the super nachos confirmed it. They now serve the slushy, soggy goop that places call nachos where they just throw everything on and let it soak in and turn the chips soft and goopy. It's horrible now. It's more of a taco slushy than nacho chips. I would have rated it a four or five, but anybody who ruins a perfectly good dish like they did just doesn't deserve a higher rating.

In search of a go-to Mexican restaurant in the area, we decided to try Tuxpan. They do a brisk take-out business (we noticed at dinner time anyway) and their place seats about 12-16 people. Dining in, you are given a basket of chips and a trio of salsas. The salsa verde was very good--nice heat, great flavor. There is also a smokier salsa, spicier than the verde but still a nice flavor. The red salsa is the weakest--no heat, kind of bland. The chips seemed like they weren't fried enough as many didn't have that nice crisp factor. I ordered the chicken enchiladas verdes--3 rolled tortillas stuffed with shredded chicken, topped with salsa verde and crema. Comes with a side of beans and rice. It was just OK for me. The chicken was bland and even though the kitchen is steps away the dish wasn't very hot. My husband ordered the enchiladas rojas with beef. I tried that dish and it was so much better than mine. I usually stick with verdes because I love verde sauces, but if we came back to dine here, I'd order this dish instead. I got to try their horchata as my son was in a sharing mood and it was very good. Smooth, creamy, great flavor. Service is super friendly. Our server (I think also the owner's wife) was super sweet and doted quite a bit on my son. Nice family restaurant.

Inconsistency is the way most places eventually go under in Chicago. We are the Capital of Food in the world. Very nice, kind hard working folks at this place, but one day it's great the best you ever eaten...the next time you go it's not that great. I think they will eventually get it together. I think the lady would eat herself if she was a box of candy sometimes, but the man who owns the place is a good fellow. Other then that it's ok. It's not Taco Bell. Guac is ok sometimes....then it's not ok...Delivery man is a good guy. Always on time...unless they are backed up. Maybe if they had a bigger stove they wouldn't fall behind. It's great that they deliver though.

I live very close to this restaurant, but was never even aware that it was there. I happened to stumble upon it while I was looking through Groupon. The Mexican food is pretty good. The waiter was very attentive and courteous and provided very good service even though we were using a discounted Groupon meal deal. Both my wife and I felt that the food was pretty good and was reasonably priced (even more so because of the groupon deal) We have been back twice since the first time

Love at first bite. I really enjoyed the take out on my first visit. The staff were friendly and helpful and the look of the place was festive and clean. The food was a complete home run. I had what they call the Chuppacabra burrito. It was so big they had to cut it in half to fit it into the carry out container.......barely. OMG it was sooooo delicious. I recommend to lovers of Mexican food.

My go to Mexican restaurant with cheap prices and great food. It's not Americanized Mexican food which I love. The staff is very friendly and polite. The place is small, but there is delivery and take out.

  • Vilma S.

The staff is friendly and they get your order out quickly but the food just is not good. The quality is poor and everything was dry. This place falls below average and our meals were disappointing.

Tuxpan is my new favorite Mexican restaurant. Limited seating so get there early on the weekends. I had the guacamole which was fantastic and generous and a steak burrito which was delicious. I can't wait to try some more dishes at Tuxpan.

I ordered a Denver Omelet Burrito. I expected it to be egg, peppers, onions, cheese, and diced ham. The first bite told me that it wasn't ham. It was diced HOT DOG. This is not ham and not an acceptable substitute, ever. Bacon would have been fine, even better than ham all things considered. I thought for a minute it might be some strange breakfast sausage, so I rinsed a piece of it off to get a good look. It was indeed, hot dog. This makes me afraid to eat the rest of my order, and I won't order from there again.

I live in the neighborhood. I eat here pretty much once a week. The staff is friendly and the food is delicious. It is easily the best mexican restaurant in Jefferson Park. It's family owned so i feel good supporting them. It's a little more $ than some of the other mexican places nearby, but not by much. And given it is so superior in terms of quality, I don't even think about it. In fact, I round up when i pick up my order. Tacos al pastor and a steak quesadilla - it never disappoints. SIDENOTE: I see some one-star reviews here...reading through them I feel these people are being overly critical for isolated incidents, but that's my opinion. One star ratings should be reserved for the places that end up on Kitchen Nightmares IMHO; this is not one of those places by any stretch. So, yeah. Disregard the haters.

Really good food. Delivery is pretty high when you are in the same zip though. But I rather pay an extra $2 for delivery and get good food than get less and order from places like El Ranchito! Lol

  • Lila M.

Tuxpan is my new go to for Mexican food. The delivery fees are exceptionally cheap, and the food is BANANAS. I ordered the Super Nachos and got a huge box of chips covered in beany, meaty, cheesy goodness. It came with guacamole on top and jalepenos on the side. The only thing that could make this better would be some pico de gallo, which I'm sure you can add for a nominal fee. My brother got a steak burrito. He bit into it and immediately declared "Damn, that is a tasty burrito!" I'll assume I have his blessing in giving Tuxpan 5 stars. 5/5 will definitely order again, many times. Delivery was pretty quick. I can't wait to try other items from their menu.

I finally found a Mexican place that delivers near my job so i decided to try it out a few months back i have been a fan since i order from here about one or two times a month for lunch i have tried alot of different things off the menu and they have all been good.. the gordita is probably my least favorite only because it was falling apart but it was good. the fajitas were delicious and i highly recommend the pico de gallo it is so good. i have tryed tacos super nachos gorditas caldo de res fajitas tortas are huge and good they all are really good. guacamole i wasn't much of a fan of i have had better. i would recommend this place to anyone and the employers and owners are extremely nice! very nice people.

Definitely a fan of the fantastic, family-owned, quaint neighborhood Mexican restaurant & BYOB that has everything from breakfast to mole sauce. Fresh salsa kicks off the experience and everything I have tried so far has been excellent. Caution the soups are homemade so if you don't like picking chicken off the bone stick to tacos. :-) Great prices, great people.

This has to be probably one of the best Mexican restaurants on the north side of Chicago, something I never would of thought of by seeing this place. It looks like a regular small walk in restaurant but the dine in service is really good. The food was delicious and all I have to say for others to understand is, you have to try it yourself! This place will become a regular stomping ground for me!

  • Katina R.

I love this place. Just picked up an order (though they do deliver via GrubHub which I use a lot!) and as I bit into that wonderful steak taco I said, MAN, this is good! Food is great, people are nice. It doesn't get much better. If you don't like this Mexican, move to California. Guac is good, salsa verde one of my faves. Very good, please check it out.

  • Kat M.

It was pretty damn good. I had 1 Al Pastor taco and a steak quesadilla. They were both good. I liked the salsa they brought to the table. I liked all 3 which usually doesn't happen. The boy got the taco dinner, it was pretty good too. I will definitely be back.

Horrible!!! Took an hour and a half to deliver and there was food missing and what food was there was freezing cold and not edible!

This place is a GEM.... I just wish that after living close by for three years I had known it was here (the only sign is a neon one in the window, it's so easy to miss). The food is top-notch for a small establishment, not the most extensive menu but the things they do, they do well. We started out with the OMG great guacamole. I ordered the tampiquena and my girlfriend had the pepper steak (I forget the spanish name for it). The skirt steak was well-seasoned for both dishes, not dry and tough at all. It was delicious. They serve their tampiquena with the enchilada on top of the steak with a drizzle of sour cream (I'm not a big fan of sour cream, but it was sparing and well-executed). I had limon Jarritos and my girlfriend had a Sidral. The restaurant is BYOB if you want something with alcohol in it. The service is great, very efficient, very friendly. The food is well-timed if you order an appetizer (your entree will pretty much come just after you've decided you're done with the appetizer). I can't wait to go back and try some other things off their menu!

Today we tried this place, the service was super slow even though it wasn't busy. Our food took a while to come to our table and when it did it was overcooked. My son loved his steak torta but my carne asada and my husband's milaneza were very dried. Overall the food is overpriced for the portions and quality and they could use and extra person so the service is quicker.

so since my last review I've continue to order from Tuxpan and I have to say that my rating has gone up since then.I'd have to say that they are probably the best tacos in Chicago. They still are little on the small side but for the price you really cannot beat the quality. I'd say the last 10 times I've ordered from them once the tacos came to me dry but every other time they are so juicy. My mom absolutely loves their taco salad. I will definitely continue to order from Tuxpan my apologies for the mediocre rating previously. Delivery is usually pretty fast so I get my tacos normally hot.

I live right down the street from Tuxpan and get food here 4 times a month at least. I always get great food until tonight. My mom got a steak burrito and it was horrible. It smelled and tasted burnt, and some of the pieces were so overcooked they were hard like a bone. My dad brought it back and explained it and the older woman, I think she's an owner and she was so rude. She argued and fought with my dad. The chef made a new one, they had a pile of already cooked steak on the side and he was taking that and grilling that. So unsanitary and poor quality. I will never get food there ever again.

Great mexican food, decent prices, and very friendly staff. Best combination of salsas I've ever had. It's one of my two go-to places in the area for mexican food. Good option for takeout or BYOB dine-in. Regarding delivery - the delivery guy is a very nice man, but it can take a while sometimes because they get so many orders. Can't knock them for being popular though.

so disappointed Saturday night.I have been to this place twice before and thought it was O K I was with family and ordered Tampiquena (Skirt Steak with cheese enchilada)I asked for it medium. It was by far the worst piece of meat i have ever gotten from a restaurant It was small and so over cooked parts were crunchy. I cant understand how they can serve that.I am bummed because i live close and thought this could be a good spot for last minute dinners,I will not be back ever

We order from here probably 3x a month because the food is good and the prices are low. We don't really have many great options in our area. The burrito de asada is delicious and the al pastor tacos/burritos are my favorite as well as the asada quesadillas. Their customer service has always been great to us. Our recent order was missing salsa. I called to ask if the salsa was extra and the gentleman that answered was very sweet and apologetic and sent over salsa to enjoy with our food.

I am new to the area and decided to try this place out based on the good reviews. We were disappointed that our burritos & flautas were filled with lettuce and hardly any meat in it. The refried beans were flavorless.

  • Pam D.

I guess this is more like a 2.5 star review. I would have gone with 3 stars, but neither Christopher nor I have any desire for a return visit. The place is as cute as can be. I loved the cheerful decor. The food presentation was also really neat, but this was a case of form over substance. We both had carne asada, and they were both extremely tough. It kind of takes the joy out of eating when you have to fight with your food. The rice and beans were standard, as were the chips and salsa. Another problem I had with the meal was the guacamole. It was absolutely tasteless, like they had just mashed an avocado to a pulp and that was it. The server said it was freshly made to explain the long delay in getting it. It was not worth the wait. Service was friendly, but a bit sketchy. We waited an excessive amount of time to get our drinks. When you are eating salsa and chips, a beverage really helps. I had to finally ask the waitress as she went by if we could have our drinks. They seem to do a gang-buster pick up and delivery service. I'm guessing items like tacos and tamales fare better than our steaks. In the end we paid $30 for a meal that left us feeling disappointed.

Finally a good Mexican restaurant in the Jeff park area!!!! We had dinner delivered tonight. The steak was good quality not tough like most of the places in the area. The guacamole was delicious. Pick was frdeesh and fantastic. Food arrived hot and fast delivery person was very nice free delivery too. What's not to like. Give it a shot. Will definately order again.

  • Ed B.

Went there based on the Yelp reviews. Food was solid, nothing amazing but way better than TBK and better than others in the area that I've had (La Palapita, Mom's). Service was great the salsa and chips was pretty standard (red / green) and a 3rd orange salsa which was hot and tasty. We had 3 entrees and all of us liked the food. I will definitely be back and try the some more items from the menu.

I've lived in this neighborhood for about 6 yrs total and restaurants are hit or miss but mostly missed. Sometime ago, we tried a new mexican place (Tuxpan) after a number of "just okay" places we order from weekly. Tuxpan was a knockout for various reasons. One, most places don't have any sort of taste in the steak tacos, Tuxpan does! Second thing is I was able to get various of deals as well online ordering from Living Social. I've only been to the restaurant itself once but had delivery about 10x within the past 3-4 months. It's turned into a somewhat normal thing to order from Tuxpan. I also the fact that you can order Chips and Salsa from the store. Oh of course, you think... sounds plain and ghetto. However I love the mild sauce. Only once, it's a bit stronger than usual. I also feel you get more beans w/ cheese and rice when dining in as pose to delivery. So far all delivery orders have been dead on and quick. I've seen 2 delivery drivers and each time they are quiet passionate and quick. It's always great to be greet by a smiling face. Sounds cheesy right!? But it's pleasant after a long day of work. Only complaint is the portion size of the beans/rice changed above and one time the rice was fresh or something because it looks and tasted amazing. I wish i could pin point the date because my wife really wanted to call the restaurant and tell them, whatever they're doing to continue. however the next 2 deliveries were back to the dry looking normal rice. Not to say it wasn't good but that one fresh, wet looking rice was amazing and it's hard to go back. Glad to see this is in a neighborhood without alot good service and food. Oh ya, the hours are tough. I usually don't get home from work till 9ish PM. They close at 9PM during the week. That sucks! I would order another 1-2x a week if they just adjusted there hours till 10PM on weekdays but you can't win them all! One last thing, there prices are dirt cheap. I love that! It allows me to question other restaurants with poor product and service actually and wonder why those places are charging $5 more per product!!!!!! EDIT: I changed my rating to 5 stars. i like this place and the service is good. they went out and beyond after forgetting a portion of my food last time and since then has been on the ball.

Im a guac fanatic... and i've had alot of guac from alot of different places. Tuxpan has one of the best guacamoles around town. (Most places dont use alittle dash of salt! ick!). Im a fan of their steak tacos cause they have FLAVOR! Not like TBK where its borderline ground beef. The service can be hit or miss but the place is worth checking out for a quick bite to eat. Prices arent that bad either and they constantly have Livingsocial deals or Groupon deals for alittle discount!

  • Naushina R.

While I'm not a fan of strip mall casual dining, we really love the food and service here. The fresh guacamole is worth the short wait, the variety of salsas are totally yummy, and the accommodating service makes up for the lack of ambiance. Since first trying this place about a year ago, Tuxpan has become my family's Mexican restaurant of choice.

    (4)
  • Dan D.

Their food is above average, but the service can be lacking at times. They have messed up my order a few times, but generally they know what they are doing. The biggest downside is that, if you take an order to go or for delivery, sometimes they will charge you for salsa. However, you get free salsa and chips if you dine in. Go figure.

This is one of my favorites. My wife and I are foodies and love all different kinds of food including Latin American. We've been to places all over Chicago and southern California. For the price, this place is great. The three different salsas and chips are a big hit with my family of four, something for each of our palates. My 10 year old son who doesn't particularly like Mexican food (vegetables, yuck) loves the tostadas. I really like the horchata and steak tortas. However, my wife's choice, the chile rellenos, are ridiculous good. I've never met a chile rellenos dish I liked (too sloppy and gooey), until I came to Tuxpan. The place. not a hole-in-the-wall, because it's not dirty or cramped. It's small and cutely decorated. The food is very affordable with frequent Groupon offerings. Finally, the staff is incredibly friendly, quick, generous, and accommodating. It feels like family there, if you like family.

  • Nancy S.

We were happy with the food and the service. Tasty guacamole, marvelous red mole sauce. BUT we received menus with old pricing and a bill for new pricing To top it off, our total bill was about $11 more than it should have been, even using the new pricing, because only the amount we paid for the Groupon coupon was deducted - not the full value.

Just found this little gem a couple of weeks ago. It's a small place in a small strip mall, but the food is fresh, fantastic, and priced very conservatively. They seem to do lots of take-out business as there aren't many tables in the restaurant, but in the times that we've gone, there has always been a place to sit without waiting. Service is friendly and quick. For a quick Mexican lunch or dinner, Tuxpan is worth the drive.

Our office just moved into the Edison Park neighborhood and thank goodness we FINALLY found a good Mexican restaurant! We had the red sauce chilaquiles (spicy!) and a steak and egg breakfast. All very delish! I was most impressed with the guacamole. Very fresh and tasty!!! Reasonable prices as well.

Food is pretty good. Only reason why i gave this place 4 out of 5 is due to how crowded this place gets on weekends. The place is small and sometimes you have to wait 45-60 mins for a seat. Service sucks on weekends. Go on a weekday when i isn't crowded for fast service. Also on weekends the delivery is quite slow. Weekdays they have super fast delivery.

Had the chiles rellenos and they were fantastic. Large enough meal for next day's lunch. Freshly made watermelon drink from actual fruit not the powder stuff. Friendly service.

Living in and out of the chicago area and being mexican myself i have tried many mexican restaurants. Recently moved to the north side and came across Tuxpan Mexican Grill. I saw the reviews and 4-5 stars gave me the green light to order. Skimming through the menu the American Burger section should have given me the red flag but I wanted to see what the 5 star fuss was about. Everything on the menu seemed to sound delicious So i ordered a torta dinner (milanesa/breaded steak) and 1 gordita de chicharron (pork groin green sauce). Taco dinner , 2 chicken tacos. They told me 30-40 minutes , seeing as how i was half a mile away from them it seemed fine. 1 hour and 20 minutes later my food was here. As i suspected my food was cold/slightly warm. My tortillas were soggy as well as my bread. The food in general is 1 star 2 at best. I wasnt expecting authentic 100% mexican food but with the items that were on the menu i would have thought they would come somewhat close since alot of the items take time to make and need a little more then basic cooking knowledge. The beans were salty, the rice was actually fine but was dry. The milanesa was breaded but I was more worried about the amount they had given me. I was basically eating more bread then meat. I opened my torta up and it seemed instead of giving me the whole breaded steak they just gave me half of it. The breading seemed to taste like corn dog breading. The 2 chicken tacos had no seasoning what so ever. Taste broiled. The lettuce was already browning. The salsa they give you is basically tomato sauce with salt. The best tasting thing i received from my order was the Sangria. And that came extremely warm as well. I give this a 1 star and would not recommend this to anyone else that is looking for an authentic taste. It may be that since I come from a Mexican background that i know a little bit of what something should taste like, but for a restaurant like this to have 4-5 stars it seems to be kinda untrue on the quality.

I've been here a few times and also did carry out. I definitely recommend the carry out since it more of a storefront. The food is good, my dad enjoyed the skirt steak and my mom really loved the burritos. I had the enchilladas, and those were also delicious.

Good food at good prices, and comfortable atmosphere. I've been here a few times and they seem to be consistant. I had the chicken tacos and so did my wife. They were good, they were REAL, ATHENTIC, not incredible, but definately not bad. I really like the atmosphere though, its a small little strip mall place, but it feels very authentic and family-ran. The woman who took my order was very pleasant, (charming and polite). I'll be going back.

A pleasant visit! Grabbed a six pack of Sol from the convenience shop in the same strip. Trio of salsas with chips all had their own unique flavor, I had tilapia tacos which were prepared wonderfully simple (as they should be), grilled with onion and cilantro. Top with salsa verde and viva Mexico!!! Hubby had chile rellenos which he said were excellent. Very very delicious horchata, large portions, decor nothing great but service with a smile. Over all a nice little gem in Jeff Park! We will return!!!

We've been to many Mexican spots in different states and since we wanted to try something closer to home we put our Yelp app to use. Walking in we were greeted by a very nice young man behind the counter. The place is small with decent decor and about 10 tables. When we said that we were there to dine in he came out from around the counter to attend to us bringing some chips and 3 salsas. I don't know if others came on an off day per the reviews I've read but our chips were fresh. The salsas were good though I prefer it hotter. I had the steak torta with a chile relleno taco on the side and my guy had the super nachos with steak. We both agreed that our food was delicious. The steak was cooked perfectly for both platters. The super nachos were completely covered with plenty of toppings and meat. The chile relleno taco was tasty with a spicy kick. To drink I ordered a horchata which was refreshing and not too sweet or thick. Overall our experience was pleasant and our bellies content. We will definitely be back to try the Pozole and Caldo de Res.

Pretty good for only being open a short time. I picked up dinner on my way home from work and it was ready very fast. The family (i assume owner) were very very friendly. The food was good. The best is that they said they deliver for free. not sure if it's a promotion because they just opened or if it will be that way permanently. At any rate we have been back and will continue to return.. if not for the food then for the convenience

Can't get the guacamole in my face fast enough. Super friendly and cute. Solid food will bear further investigation of menu. Also open for breakfast which is muy necessito in Jeff Park. The name is from the owners' hometown, which is where the monarchs migrate

I saw a new food place opened up in the neighborhood. I decided to give them a try today. They have only been open a couple of days, so please keep that in mind while reading this review. I went with the taco dinner plus a tamale. I had a ground beef and steak taco. The tacos were OK. I thought they could have used a little more flavor in the meat. The ground beef was a little dry. The steak was tender with only a small bit of meat that was chewy, but overall good. The rice and beans were OK. The rice had a little flavor, but a bit salty. The beans were a little on the thin side. I like my re-fried beans thicker and more paste like texture. The flavor in the beans was pretty good. The tamale I had was a pork version. I thought the tamale was very good. It was moist and had a lot of flavor. It was the best thing in the whole meal. The salsa that came with the meal was fresh and very good in flavor. It was clean inside and there were about 8 tables. The people were nice and friendly. I look forward to returning and trying again after a few weeks. I would like to try them again after they have been open a while and settled into place. I will return.

Pretty yummy food, though most of it was the WRONG menu item, so brush up on your Spanish and pointing as communication via English is poor! The price is right and it is beyond unassuming & unpretentious. Mole was quite good, in particular.

Place is 2 blocks from my place so decided to check it out. Dined in, friendly service from the staff! They asked how our meal was, sincerely cared about our feedback. Steak burrito was good! The guacamole is probably the best guacamole I've ever had. I also love that it's "market price" :) Horchata wasn't bad either. Would definately go back!!

I went in for lunch for the first time in light of Cinco de mayo. I ordered a 3 taco dinner with beef, steak, and chicken. It was ok and didn't really stand out. Chicken and steak was a little bit dry and the beans were a little bland. Service was great as I was greeted with a smile and often asked if I needed anything else. I'm really interested in checking out their breakfast. I will return again because I live around the corner.

I've only had the steak burrito so far, but watching the other dishes being prepared I can't wait to go back! The burrito was delicious! Went back to get a couple of orders of guacamole for a pool party I was going to and it was really good guacamole! Loved it! Everybody loved it!

We went in on Cinco de Mayo and it was a great place to get your Mexican fix. It is not a super fancy place but the restaurant is clean, staff is friendly and they serve warm chips and 3 salsa while you want. It's worth a stop in if you live in the neighborhood and you want your Mexican food fix.

This is a great place whether you're on the go or if you want to enjoy a nice meal and sit down. The food is excellent and well prepared and cooked exactly how you order it - which to me doesn't always happen with mexican restaurants. The steak quesadillas were mouth watering, the chicken tacos were cooked perfectly and the chorizo was excellent. All fresh and all well prepared by the chef. The menu is extensive, and caters to any carnivore or vegetarian. The BYOB makes it a great little place with atmosphere to sit down and slowly enjoy a well cooked meal. At no time were we ever rushed - even after our meal while we finished our wine. The staff is amazingly friendly and our table never went unattended to even while other customers were coming in and out. Oh, did I mention there is actually parking? Makes it even more the reason to sit and stay. Whether its take out, a quick sit down or even to enjoy a sit down mea;, Tuxpan comes highly recommended. -Denny

This place really is as good as it gets. Great food, great prices, great service. I have eaten their food both in the restaurant and as carryout. Fabulous both times. Anything with steak is especially tasty. The horchata is declicious as well. Enjoy!

The pico de gallo was amazing. I can't remember the last time I have had pico de gallo that was so fresh and tasty. I especially liked the variety of salsas that were brought to the table. I enjoyed sampling each one, and pairing them with my meal. The service was prompt and friendly. They also appeared to have a thriving carry-out business. I will be back!

My husband and I went to Tuxpan on a weeknight and surprisingly it was busy! We did get a table, the waitress promptly brought chips and salsa and gave us menus. I ordered the burrito combo and mt husband got the enchiladas suizas, we each had an horchata and an order of guacamole. My steak burrito was delicious! Very flavorful and the meat was very tender. The horchata was delicious! The guacamole was fresh and it was good except it needed a little salt. The enchiladas came with rice, beans and a salad on a huge platter. They were well seasoned and delicious. We are very happy with Tuxpan and we will return! I didn't give it 5 stars because I haven't tasted what else is on the menu and because our waitress needed help, it was very, very busy.

We were excited to try this new restaurant in our neighborhood. We were not disappointed. As soon as we walked in, we were greeted in a friendly manner. Lots of smiles and good service. The place was very bright and clean. They give you three different salsas in stainless steel triple serving cups that spin around. We ordered the choriqueso and the chicken tamal to start. Both were delicous. They asked us what kind of tortillas we wanted and when we weren't sure, they suggested we try a combination of both corn and flour. Very nice touch. We usually go for the simple tried and true staples, tacos and burritos and both were very good. For dessert, we ordered the tres leches cake and it was amazing. We really hope this place stays for a long time. They are very inexpensive, great food, excellent customer service and very clean. And the owners are a young couple that seem to really take pride in their restaurant.

Finally a good Mexican restaurant in the Jeff park area!!!! We had dinner delivered tonight. The steak was good quality not tough like most of the places in the area. The guacamole was delicious.

Really good food. Delivery is pretty high when you are in the same zip though. But I rather pay an extra $2 for delivery and get good food than get less and order from places like El Ranchito! Lol

It was pretty damn good. I had 1 Al Pastor taco and a steak quesadilla. They were both good. I liked the salsa they brought to the table. I liked all 3 which usually doesn't happen. The boy got the taco dinner, it was pretty good too. I will definitely be back.

so disappointed Saturday night.I have been to this place twice before and thought it was O K I was with family and ordered Tampiquena (Skirt Steak with cheese enchilada)I asked for it medium. It was by far the worst piece of meat i have ever gotten from a restaurant It was small and so over cooked parts were crunchy. I cant understand how they can serve that.I am bummed because i live close and thought this could be a good spot for last minute dinners,I will not be back ever

And the owners are a young couple that seem to really take pride in their restaurant.

so disappointed Saturday night.I have been to this place twice before and thought it was O K I was with family and ordered Tampiquena (Skirt Steak with cheese enchilada)I asked for it medium. It was by far the worst piece of meat i have ever gotten from a restaurant It was small and so over cooked parts were crunchy. I cant understand how they can serve that.I am bummed because i live close and thought this could be a good spot for last minute dinners,I will not be back ever

Guacamole is fantastic...I agree with the lady below that ya can't eat it fast enough! I've tried the tacos, chimichangas, rice and beans....I HONESTLY can say - I can't eat Mexican food from anywhere else now! I also love the serving plates - very decorative!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
