Menuzine on iHeart Radio visits restaurants all over Chicago. It is aired on Wednesdays and will begin it's summer show on June 9th at noon until 2pm. The Tower Market & Grill is located within a block of the former Sears Tower which is now the Willis Tower on the Jackson Boulevard (east) side of the building. The location is great. Size is good for a couple of hundred hungry people. The service is quick. You can get a good well balanced meal under 20 minutes. Staff is contunually refreshing the buffet bar with selections that are popular. They are friendly as well as responsive. No waiter, or waitresses to slow you down by putting other customers ahead of you with their food orders. Just select your food. Pay a nominal fee for good fresh food and your dining either at a comfortable table, or back in your office. Spoke with the manager. She is a young positive spirit 20 something who loves working with you. She seems to be hopeful that the business is a success. Her comments are informed as well as educational. You will hear more about them during the Menuzine broadcast on iHeart Radio as well as on Facebook: Menuzine Classical Music with WCSU

Tower Market is great. Excellent fresh selection, great price. Please note, this is a buffet that costs about $7/ pound, some stuff is very good, some stuff simply can't fit in that price point and taste good. What I'm saying is, stay away from the crab. Chicken salad is great, veggies always fresh, great fruit selection.

I usually go to MacKelly's which is a few doors down since I eat salads in the morning for breakfast. But as I was walking towards work I'd noticed this place and decided to pop in. I like the fact that they actually have salads already made for the morning rush because MacKelly's don't. I'd tried the breakfast and it was quite delicious and cheaper than Billy Goat's where I would normally get my once a month omelet. This place is way cheaper than MacKelly's and have more of a variety of food to choose from. I just wish it was one in the West Loop.

I popped into Tower Market & Grill around 11:30 AM today, and was amazed at how empty it was. Usually I expect more of an early lunch crowd at the places around Sears / Willis Tower, but apparently this was only a slight lull between their breakfast and lunch stretches. When I left with my take-away order, the lunch crowd was trickling in. This is a very long establishment with a front entrance on Jackson and a back entrance on Quincy, with each entrance marked by a sandwich board-type sign. The buffet areas seem to be self-explanatory, as you select from the many selections and pay by the weight of the food items selected. On this day I went to the grill area way in the back, and this seems to need a bit more explanation. You order from the posted menu and tell the guys behind the counter what you want. After I asked for a gyros sandwich plus fries (only a $1 add-on for the fries), the guy gives me a ticket for the order which I hand over to the friendly cashier gal for payment. She asked if I needed a plastic bag for my take-away order (there is a seating area near the front entrance if you are dining in). Then after a few minutes I picked up my gyros order from the counter, and had to hand over the ticket again. Everything about my order was just kinda ok - the gyros meat, the pita, raw onions, tomato, the fries. The best part was actually the tzatziki sauce. The prices seem reasonable so I might re-visit to try the buffet, but will probably skip the grill next time around.

I popped into this spot early last week to make a small salad to supplement my lunch. I was impressed by the large selection of hot bar and cold bar items. During the week I visited Tower Market two more times and made a full hot bar lunch platter during my last visit. The hot bar food looks very tasty but is just OK. In the future I'll go there to make small salads but probably won't make a meal out of the hot bar.

We've been wondering what will go in this storefront for a while, and now we finally know. This is your basic hot bar/smorgasbord. Some things were good, some were only OK. I feel like this is a place where you'd have to get a feel for what was good and then consistently choose those items. This is a long, narrow place where you pay per pound ($6.40/lb for lunch). There is a decent amount of seating. They also have a salad bar, grill and soft drink fountain. I came on opening day, where they slashed the prices in half. It seemed clean and well-maintained. There was a good amount of staff refilling items, and they were very friendly. Some items needed to be better labelled, but it was lunch time, so I'll cut them slack. The Italian sausage was quite good, as was the steamed green beans and cauliflower (both still kinda crunchy, garlicky, not limp and sad-looking). The orange chicken was soggy and overly sweet, so I won't be getting that again. Overall I thought the place had some good options. I feel like the prices might be a little high once they aren't offering a special. But a good option to compete with Mac Kelly's down the street.

They had the best soup in town. Now they changed it and it is crap. Time to move on.

Food by the pound. Nothing special but it gets the job done for a quick lunch.
