So I'm on a beach volleyball team. We play every Friday night in the summer. We had a restaurant we loved we used to head to every week after games, but unfortunately they seem to be on the downward spiral and we needed to reevaluate our post-game options. Enter Tolotzin. Is it revolutionary? No. Is it really exciting? No. Is it sexy/flirty/date night-centric? No. Is it a super friendly BYOB spot in Uptown that's the kind of place you can show up at 8:30 on a Friday night in beach volleyball t-shirts and shorts, kinda sweaty, with a few cases of Coors Light and some pitchers of margaritas and not worry about being underdressed or too loud? YES YES YES! Real talk: There were only, like, three other tables of patrons in Tolotzin, so if you're going for a bumpin' atmosphere, you should probably look elsewhere, but for our purposes, Tolltzin was perfection. And the food? Perfect. The guac was chunky and fresh. My beef chimichunga was fried burrito perfection. And the service was top-notch. After all was said and done, we each paid $20 for dinner and that included a few orders of guac and an entree each and tax and tip. BOOM. See you every Friday, Tolotzin.

Delicious food. We walked here from my place for lunch. Very good prices for lunch. We both had burritos and they were delicious!! It's a little place with 12 tables, exposed brick, comfortable chairs and friendly staff. And good chips and salsas. Will come back for horchata. BYOB.

place is ok. Ate with someone who had a 30min lunch break from the Target across the street (she had studied in Mexico and lived in Pilsen). Had Huevos that were fine. Chips were pre-fab--place seems clean. Other than the lunch specials, prices seem high. Since we are in the Mexican food capital of the world, we can be picky

Yum! Best Mexican in the area. It's a happy medium between Americanized upscale Mexican and Americanized caca de torro Mexican. You don't go here for the salads as one reviewer wrote about...you go here for the tacos, rice and beans, enchiladas etc. and on these things they deliver. I tried the steak taco and beef taco lunch special and enjoy it way more than some of the other neighborhood spots. Deliciosa!

Tolotzin is quite possibly the worst Mexican restaurant I've been to in Chicago. I was in there at 7:00 on a Monday. First thing I noticed was how empty the place was. That really set the tone for the bad service and even worse food we were about to receive. I ordered a salad to start. The chicken was over cooked, dry, and didn't really look like chicken. This came on top of a plate of translucent ice burg lettuce (seriously?) disgusting! My friend ordered a chicken quesadilla. He thought it was pretty good, but I no longer trust his taste. I tried a slice of it and it was dry around the edges (crusty as a matter-o-fact.) The quesadilla was cooked to the same level I used to cook them in college... Cheap Tortilla, Cheap Cheese, and Cheap Chicken... at least the guacamole was decent. I was planning on having a main course, but thankfully the salad came out before the server came back to even take our order. I took one look and decided that was all for me. I suppose the only redeemable quality this place has is the fact that it's quiet. Good luck keep the doors open folks... I hope the crickets tip well.

Dropped in today to avoid a torrential down pour and I stumbled upon deliciousness! I had their taco lunch special. Beans and rice that came with the tacos were your typical mexican side dishes but the tacos were fabulous!! I had the steak tacos and they were super tasty. Great quality of meat, great portions and the salsa that they bring along with chips, free of charge, were both very tasty. I could almost drink their fire roasted salsa!! I WILL BE BACK!

Good solid Mexican food. I had one of the combos and it came without any surprises. The service was great and the food was super prompt. (I was the only person in the restaurant)

EPIC FAIL ON EVERY LEVEL. I ordered delivery via Eat24. I ordered the Carne a la Tampiquena, which is a grilled skirt steak with a cheese enchilada for $16.95. I ordered the steak medium rare, and the enchilada with red sauce. I also ordered the Guacamole appetizer, which is $6.95. The delivery driver finally showed up over an hour after I delivered, which was early afternoon on a Saturday - not exactly a busy time - and he promptly hauled ass up the stairs to the upper level of my building instead of waiting inside the door like I instructed. And then when I got my food into my apartment, EVERYTHING was ice cold. The reason I ordered delivery was because I didn't want to cook, and yet I ended up reheating everything. The cheese enchilada I was looking forward to? It was chicken, with NO sauce, dry as a bone and tasteless. And cold. The chips that came with my guac? Stale. And the guac? For $6.95 I got a 6oz styrofoam cup full. The skirt steak was cooked well-done, and that was long before I attempted to take the chill out of it by reheating. The tortillas, which were also cold, were clearly store-bought. I get better from my local Aldi. I am incredibly pissed. Never again. Save yourself a similar nightmare and go elsewhere.

Nicest Mexican restaurant in the area. Very nice people and the food is delicous and authentic.

Ordered from grubhub. I can't believe this place has 4 stars. With all of the amazing Mexican options in Chicago, do yourself a favor and choose somewhere else. Nachos are robbery for what you receive. $7 for a handful of chips covered in (barely any) flavorless junk. Beans runny, rice basically white rice with no flavor or seasoning, salsa like slightly hot water, fatty almost gone bad tasting steak, oil on tortilla from chimichanga even had an off taste and that isn't something I would normally notice. I'll give it that it Arrived timely and hot. Guacamole was good but nothing special. Wasn't cheap and definitely won't be ordering from here again.

Laid back byob. We had a great experience here. Clean, friendly and neighborhood vibe. The food is really good and authentic. We ordered the chicken soup which was done right. They sent a huge bowl with chicken legs and broth and then gave you a plate with cilantro, limes and onions to add to taste. The chicken and the soup were equally fantastic. We also ordered the steak and shrimp fajitas. They brought us extra tortillas and the steak was great, I wish I knew their marinade technique! Highly recommend this place for Mexican and byob!

Very nice service, food was great (with the exception of the Chile Rellenos, it tasted like it had been dipped in Fish Oil). Wallet friendly and best of all it's BYOB!!!!

I love this place. I went in on my birthday on the 9th of November and I might I say this is a diamond in the ruff. Im in the service industry and a very picky eater. Tolotzin amazed me with their flavors. Every person with me for my occasion literally cleaned their plates. We ordered the chicken nachos, steak quesadilla, guacamole and chips, Pico de Gallo and chips and etc! So much food to list. The steak fajitas were to die for. Someone on a previous post said it was too greasy. oh no! it was amazing! The seasoning was on point. The hospitality was just amazing! I love you Tolotzin! Id choose this restaurant for my next event!

You win some you lose some. We came after finding La Cuicad full and wanting to find a place in walking distance, preferable BYOB. Whip out the trusty Yelp apps which brought us to Tolotzin. It was Saturday night and dead. There was a table of 2 women who quickly left and the lone servers bf/husband (?) who was keeping her company the whole evening. Very eerie and unnerving. I chalk it partially up to location-the weird stretch of Broadway in Uptown. Reading the other 32 reviews (1 of the reviews is for an higher end Italian place w a patio on this listing so I'm not counting it) I see it's dead daily. The service was well meaning, but amateurish. She couldn't really answer our questions about the menu- everything "was a favorite." She would bus stuff from the table without asking if she could take it... A bit annoying....but she was nice. The complimentary chips and salsa may have been their standout. We ordered: Three taco sampler platter with al pastor, strip steak and some other meat. With beans and rice He ate it all, but didn't seem that wowed. Chicken Fajitas in sizzling skillet with peppers and onions and cilantro. Tomato, lettuce, sour cream, guacamole, and rice and beans were on the side. The chicken was ok quality, but I felt the skillet contents were too greasy. The beans were good, not too bland. The rice tasted like it was cooked and re-heated. The rice was hard. It came w corn tortillas. I would say this is a skip it. It's just too dead and the food was mundane.

So delicious! Great service! Came in late, yet weren't treated like garbage. Great food!! Honestly deliciously! Fantastic portions. I approve!!

LOVE this place. Great food, always quiet, have eaten here many times. BYOB, be sure to check out Azusa Liquors next door. HUGE Selection of wines, many whites already chilled. Check out the Little Black Dress Moscato or one of the specialty Moscatos like Coconut. You won't find either of these at Target or Jewel and both under $11.

Have done both dine in & carry out here as my office is just around the corner and this is definitely a place that you are better off eating in than taking away. They have the BEST chiliquiles I have been able to find in Chicago - and they do them very, very well! I am so pleased by that. Won't be ordering it with steak again, twice it has been too tough but the ground beef is very tasty. The enchiladas are also VERY good - all of their sauces & homemade salsas are delicious. They are often not busy at lunch time, so there isn't trouble getting a table. The service is a bit on the slow side, but the food is worth the wait!

Went in for take out this past Friday night. The place was empty, except for a guy selling hair care products to one of the owners. Can't figure that out, the place is well appointed, not as fancy as La Ciudad, but not a dump by any means. I found the al pastor to be more like carnitas or roast pork, not like the usual offering off the spit. So good! Bursting with flavor. The tortillas were also fantastic. Salsa was good, both red and green. I'd definitely go back, especially to get that great food in a quiet, empty restaurant. I hope they stay open!

We placed an order for delivery based on the positive reviews on Yelp. Delivery was very quick, but that was the only good thing about our experience. The food was a MAJOR disappointment--borderline inedible. I ordered a vegetarian burrito, which was described on the menu as filled with rice, beans, cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, avocado, and sour cream. What I received was a tortilla filled primarily with sloppy, soupy, bland fajita vegetables, runny beans, chewy rice, and a few globs of what I assume was cheese and avocado. I was starving so I managed to eat about half of it before I gave up and threw it away. The chips tasted like they had been fried in slightly rancid grease. My husband had the lomo chimichanga, which was also filled with the fajita vegetable "soup." He said the fried tortilla shell had the flavor and texture of an egg roll wrapper. Can you say "yuck"? I am baffled by the glowing reviews here.

This is a great local business. I have only ever had take out but the place looks nice and it's BYOB with no corkage fee. The Pastor here is great, one of the best I have had in the city. I would highly recommend either the burrito dinner or the taco dinner. The portions are large and the prices are good. Try their food!

  • Jeff G.

probably a 3.5 but i'll round up. food overall was pretty good: the queso and the chicken enchilada and nice homemade salsa the beef taco was not very tasty we went on a mon night at 830pm and it was dead. maybe it gets crowded on weekends

We stopped in on a late Saturday afternoon, just missing the cutoff time for the lunch specials. After checking out the menu, what stuck out the most was the lack of buying a single taco, tostada, etc. Their main menu consists of plates and dinners. When I used to order burritos, I always went with the carne asada. This time, I ventured of course and got the pastor. Oh dear, was this freaking delicious! The tortilla was perfectly browned so it was soft, but had some crispy spots. The dinner came with rice and beans. The rice was soft, a tad fluffy, and not dried out like I've had at other places. The pastor was very flavorful. The horchata I ordered seemed a bit thin. It did have a great flavor and it wasn't too overpowered with cinnamon. It is BYOB but we did not partake. I definitely want to go back and try some of their other offerings.

WTH Yelp? 4 stars! The reviewers must have been relatives, loaded or both. Went in at Noon on a Friday! We were the only table. Not figuratively, literally the only table. After some advice from Facebook friends that this was NOT a good sign, we paid the bill and ran! Yes, we did receive our food- it looked like something you would see on Restaurant Impossible. Yikes! My Chicago peeps, in a world class city- this is not the choice.

Amazing hidden gem. Christina, our server was wonderful, the food was simply superb. I moved in around the corner recently and I guarantee I'll be back.

Partner and I stopped for a quick cheap lunch after spending too much at the AT&T store accross the street. The burrito pastor was very good and a very good luch special. Partner had the mole and liked it as well. The service was very quick and very friendly. The space is clean and convenient. It's definitely a dining destination to consider when one is doing business at Target or other Wilson Yard businesses.

Tolotzin is amazing. The food is always great and I have sampled many of the items on the menu. This locall gem may be overlooked if you do not know about and I urge you to get aquainted. The atmosphere is cute and the service is great. As for the food, a friend of mine said "these enchiladas are good as my mom's and she is from Mexico". With that kind of endorsment, how could you go wrong. Tolotzin is a neighborhood favorite of mine for dine in (BYOB!) or carry out. If you like good mexican food that tastes good anytime (before or after 1 am-haha) and local charm, you will enjoy yourself. As a bonus, the prices are very reasonable.

Tolotzin is quickly becoming my favorite restaurant in Uptown. It's got great food, friendly service, and terrific prices. I love going here with a small group or a large group. As a bonus, I had my birthday party here very recently, and the staff was amazingly accommodating. I had a group of 10, and the wait staff were very helpful and attentive. My boyfriend asked if they had a candle I could blow out in my "birthday flan," and since they didn't, they went to Target to buy some! Love it!

Visited this place for a to go order at lunch time. I decided on the ground beef Chimichanga. It sounded the best but was of course the most expensive lunch entree at $8.50. Most others are around $7. I was the only customer there. The waiter was friendly and carried a steady conversation to make my wait comfortable. I looked around while there and noticed it was very clean. The tables were set up with simple but nice looking place settings. I'll be back to try the Enchiladas for lunch and almost everything on the dinner menu sounds awesome. Couple things to know: BYOB Cash Only WELCOME TOLOTZIN TO UPTOWN!

  • Kate G.

I am so glad this restaurant opened in Uptown across from the new Target. The food is delicious, great prices, BYOB, nice decor...exactly what Uptown needs. I have been here at lunch and also dinner and have had a great experience both times. Complimentary chips and two kinds of salsa when you're seated. The guacamole is delicious, as are the tacos. The combination deals at dinner are really good because you can try several dishes. Welcome to our neighborhood!

My boyfriend tried this place a couple months ago and thought it was "meh". We thought it was only fair to give Tolotzin another shot especially since it opened not too long ago and may have been just going through that awkward new restaurant phase. We got the Tolotzin combo (chicken tostada, chile relleno and cheese enchilada), a couple steak tacos and a chicken taco. The chicken had a really unpleasant unchickenlike flavor. The steak was way too fatty and difficult to eat without picking through each piece to separate the meat from gristle. The chile relleno tasted prefrozen and microwaved...very waterlogged and spongy. The tomato sauce on top tasted almost like marinara out of a can. The horchata was OK. The decor is very nice. Basically, everything was really sub par compared to La Cuidad (our favorite neighborhood place), even the free salsas. I totally understand why this place always seems empty.

The food is delicious, they give generous portions; the added bonus is this place is BYOB! It's family-owned and affordable. Tolotzin is a hidden gem in the uptown area.

We had heard about Tolotzin from some friends last year but just made it over recently. I don't know why we waited so long! I went with a group of 6 and we had a great dinner - the salsas and guacamole were as good and fresh as everyone says they are. I had the skirt steak with a chicken enchilada and it was awesome. My wife had one of the seafood dishes, which she loved. And at the end of the dinner we were not up for dessert, but they brought us complementary flan anyways - and, honestly, it was the best flan I've every had, with an amazing texture. The only (slight) negative is that it's a small operation and there was just one server the night we were there, so service was a little on the slower side - but they were all super-friendly and it wasn't a big inconvenience for us.

  • Sam H.

What a nice surprise this place was! I just moved in with my girlfriend who lives in Uptown, and we were looking for someplace to eat within walking distance. We decided to hit up Tolotzin, and loved it. The food is colorful, flavorful, with just the right amount of kick where needed, and the staff is extremely friendly and attentive (but not overly so). We'll definitely be going back. BYOB is a nice plus, too. Next time we'll bring a bottle of Choklat to pair with our spicy dishes. BTW, I don't know why the restaurant info says they don't accept credit cards, because they did when we went.

The lovely, simple but traditional decor is a welcome respite from our dirty uptown streets - and a preview of the good food to come. Very tasty, well-executed dishes at suprisingly reasonable prices, with good service. I ordered an horchata and a burrito with mole - mole sauce being a good litmus test for Mexican, and horchata being a sign that you are in an authentic place. 8 or 9 out of ten for both, and the burrito was delicious. Safe to reorder the mole. I took my mom there without previewing it, which is a risky business, but it went well. Their cleanliness was up to her Germanic standards, and she liked her food! At a Mexican restaurant! Who woulda thunk it. Kid tested, mother approved.

  • Candice G.

This is a great local gem. It's BYOB, good food, good prices, and very nice servers. I recommend the chicken enchiladas, but if they have the tamale special, you must get the tamales. The salsa has some kick to it, which I like, and the guacamole is fantastic if you ask for jalapenos to be added. The prices really can't be beat with free chips and salsa, and a $7 lunch special that includes rice and beans. Don't let the dining room discourage you if there aren't many people there-I think they do a lot of carryout business, so the food is fresh, and it is delicious.

We really enjoyed our time at this restaurant. We went early on a Sunday afternoon and had the whole restaurant to ourselves. My husband and I had enchiladas, and the kids had quesadillas and steak tacos. I enjoyed the salsas - one was spicy, and the other was medium and wonderful. We had guacamole, which was standard but still tasty. The staff was attentive and friendly and so sweet to our kids. I would recommend this place for a casual dinner in Uptown!

  • Jeffie J.

This local Mexican is worth a visit if you are in the neighborhood. It falls someplace between a joint and a restaurant. The décor is nice, the place is clean, and service is friendly. The generous portion of guacamole was thick with mashed avocado, although the chips were no better than standard. I had the Tolotzin plate, containing a chile relleno, a chicken tostada, a cheese enchilada and refriend beans--all fine. The flan made a tasty dessert. It's never crowded, but that's not off-putting--people are coming in constantly for take out. I wouldn't travel across the Midwest to dine here, but it's fine if you're shopping at Target across the street.

This is a cute little place . They have good food, and drinks ( their horchata is really good ) Staff are nice, friendly, fast, and efficient ....

Holy crap is this place good! I was visiting a friend and we decided to stop here before I left to go home to Cleveland. I wanted a good hearty meal to fill me up so that I would sleep on my bus ride home and this sure did the trick. Lobster ravioli was the best I have ever had. I love the BYOB thing too. Although it's a bit on a the pricey end, so worth it. The portions are huge and it's sooo good. We sat outside and it was pretty small for a patio, good view of the main street though, lot of action for a Sunday. The service was OK, our waitress was super weird, like she was a robot or something. I think he needs to revamp his staff, because they all seemed a little odd...That still doesn't take away from the food. It is totally worth trying!

  • Gessa S.

I'd give their food a 3, but because of the fact that it's BYOB, this place is a 4 in my book. Ordered a Taco dinner, which did not disappoint. The only thing I was upset with, was the salsa they put out. I get that it's free so I shouldn't complain much, but there was just something off about the taste of their salsa.

    (4)
  • Christina K.

I'm knocking off a star only because our waitress didn't give us our bill and let us know that we had to pay at the counter. We were expecting her to deliver our checks so we could pay her, but she didn't move. So strange. However, the food is delicious (I would recommend the enchiladas and the chips & salsa are super yummy). Also the fact that it's a BYOB restaurant is a major plus. It says that they don't accept credit card, but they do.

  • Tracy S.

I have been to this restaurant two times. The first time I had a really good experience. So the second time I went back with a group of 5 people. It took over 40 minutes for our food to come out. Then when it did two of the orders were wrong. I had a quesidalla and the cheese wasn't even melted, it was just shredded cheese in a tortilla. I probably won't go back.

  • Ben T.

Went here for a late lunch with a friend and decided to order 3 of their lunch specials so we could try a few different items and stuff ourselves. The place was empty and we were served by a man who was attentive and helpful. Complimentary chips and salsa while we waited for our order are always appreciated. We had huevos rancheros: really tasty salsa that went surprisingly well with the fried egg, better than I was expecting; beef enchiladas with mole sauce: a spicy kick from the mole and otherwise a well-done enchilada; steak tacos: fairly standard soft tortilla tacos, the meat quality was good. Each entree also came with rice and beans. Three entrees, a coke, tax and tip came out to 28$. I believe the huevos rancheros was advertised as a little less than the other entrees, but we were charged the same price for each - we didn't make a big deal of it. I enjoyed the food and will be back when I'm in the mood for some good Mexican in the neighborhood.

  • Bruce B.

Tolotzin is pretty good, but did not shock me. It's another solid Mexican restuarant. Their lunch special is the way to go. If I was charged those prices when I came there for dinner, they would have received another star. I had four tacos (chicken, steak, chorizo, and lengua) and all were decent. The chicken was a bit dry, but the steak and lengua were the best. I washed it down with an horchata that was homemade and perfect. I'm glad they moved to the neighborhood, but they are in for a lot of competition if one ventures a little south of Montrose. Go shopping at Target and give them a try at lunch.

  • Todd R.

We've been to Tolotzin a few times and it is the best option for Mexican food in Uptown. The people that run the restaurant are very attentive and nice. It is clean, bright and very festive. The salsas & guacamole are delicious, fresh and a great start to a filling meal. We had the Mole Enchiladas, Fajitas and Steak Burrito. The food was fresh, warm and ample in size. The FLAN should not be missed - the flavor is spot on. BYOB, for now, and Cash only.

We have been meaning to try this place forever, and finally decided to go there for lunch....so glad we did! Chips and TWO kinds of salsa to start with.....both salsas are delicious (the verde one has a bit of a kick) and the chips are amazingly fresh. Our server did not mind at all when we asked for more chips and he made sure we got fresh ones every time....he was so nice! I ordered the Torta with chicken and loved it! The chicken was great and the bread was crunchy on the outside but soft on the inside. Great price too....only $5.00 and it's a big sandwich! My boyfriend got the steak Chimichanga dinner, which was a huge chimichanga that also came with rice and beans. It was fried perfectly and tasted great! Also came with sour cream and guacamole on top....yummm. Overall, a great place and awesome service!

Food tasted really great, and the price was not bad. Environment wasnt busy while we were in there, but with how great the food tasted you would think it would be a lot busier! Overall it was good :)

  • Jen K.

Fun and cute atmosphere... love the byob. But it doesn't hold a candle to La Cuidad in terms of quality of food... Had the Mexican combo and it was just meh all around. My husband was not thrilled to see a neck bone in his chicken mole. The complimentary flan was super delish.

  • Christy W.

For its price range, this place is great. I have a tendency to judge a Mexican place by its salsa and guacamole. If you can't get that right, then everything else is going to go downhill. I loved both. I had one beef and one chicken taco. The chicken taco had a LOT of chicken in it. Both tacos were only $1.50! I was half expecting those greasy tacos with the fat dripping out considering they were only $1.50. Howerver, I was pleasantly surprised that they weren't "heavy" at all - well seasoned and not dripping in fat. The restaurant was very clean and the service was friendly. I will definitely return.

We've gone 3 times now for dinner and love this place. It's BYOB (there's a liquor store 3 doors south if you forget) and the food is great. I love the Chimichanga (sp?) and start out with the chips and guac. It's very clean inside and everything is new. One thing...while they are getting started, it's cash only. 40 bucks will feed you and your date.

  • A C.

I can't speak for the dine-in service, but if you want delivery that arrives hot and fresh instead of a cold pile of mush, with no flavor besides salt, don't do it. This is by far the worst Mexican food I have ever had.

  • Dean W.

I'll second all that has been said positively about the food, service, and decor. The tortilla chips are fresh, the salsas are great (especially the salsa verde), the nachos appetizer was VERY good, as were the chicken chimichunga and steak burrito dinners. We never have had to wait to be seated. And we will be back. My partner--a former Texan--thinks this is the best Mexican food he's had since he left Texas.

My colleagues and I love this little place for the $6.50 lunch specials. The food is fresh, splcy and filling. The service is attentive. I hope this Uptown gem manages to stay open!

Went on a Saturday night and had a good experience. Prices are decent, and the food was good. Plus, its BYOB and they provided the margarita glasses and a bucket of ice! And the free salsa and chips were good. Will go back when in the neighborhood.

Yum! Service was great. We arrived with warm beer and the waitress was kind enough to cool it for us. Food was delicious. The red salsa had just the right amount of kick to it. The chile relleno was also very good.

This is a new restaurant which just opened last week. I saw it while walking home and decided to try it in order to support a new neighborhood business (a rare thing these days). Chips and two kinds of salsa (tomato and verde) were presented when I was seated. I ordered the Mexican Combo. It was freshly made and delicious and very filling. There was lots of cheese in my quesadilla. The room is nice and bright. Everything looks clean and new. Latin music plays in the background. My server was attentive and friendly. He gave me a sample of their flan for dessert. It seemed traditional and reminded of the flan made by the mother of a Cuban friend of mine. I don't think they have a liquor license, so it may be BYOB. Also, they only accept cash at this time. They are open until midnight daily, so it is a good choice for late night dining. I will definitely go back and bring friends.

Ate there tonight with 6 others and a 2 year old. We were welcomed to our table with chips, two salsas, a high chair, and friendly smiles! Guacamole was VERY good- fresh tasting with minced cilantro. I had tacos: steak, pastor, and chicken. The steak and pastor were amazing, while the chicken was fine but less interesting. Others had carne asada which they thought was really delicious. Everything came with nicely made rice and delicious refried beans. The dessert: flan was lightly drizzled with chocolate sauce and the "fried ice cream" had a minty flavor and a crispy, crunchy coating. Definitely several steps above the usual neighborhood Mexican restaurants. The price was very reasonable and being BYO was a plus. You can now pay with a credit card too. 7 thumbs up from our family! We'll be back!

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate.
