Haven't had a bite to eat here yet but the drinks are delicious! This place a wonderful jem tucked a little ways away from the bussle of randolph street. I absolutely fell in love with it the moment I walked in the door. From the decor to the menu they have everything for your liking. Small bites to eat and concoctions to sip on. Outdoor seating is a plus as well!. You could be here on a sweet intimate date, a night to catch up with your girls or a group gathering at a communal table. The service is quick and great and the place is got the right vibe. I have already let the secret out with my friends that we must go back!

I like the space, I like that there is always room to sit, and I like how close I am to this bar. I've been here a few times and service is fine, the appetizer we had was fine and the drinks are fine. I wanted a blue cheese olive martini and they didn't have that. Surprising to me. I will be back because it's close by and a nice place to get a drink but I prefer the cocktails at the other restaurants in this group.

Gorgeous setting and good service, The Betty was a great place to meet friends for a Friday night dinner. Go with a group that will share small plates. Prices are high for what you get. Best dishes were the "fried" cauliflower which tasted more like it was dusted with spices and baked - delicious - and the crudo - light and flavorful. What seemed to be the centerpiece of the menu was the cioppino and at $38 I expected a heaping bowl of seafood. It was delicious but the portion didn't fit the bill with mussel shells filling the bowl with little seafood underneath. The squid salad was also delicious but disappointing portion-wise: I could barely find the pieces of squid mixed in the warm frisée. Net net: great setting, good taste, over order and prepare to shell out more than you would for other restaurants of this quality.

Someone once said happy hour is the best hour. Damn were they right. I work near Betty but never had the urge to visit until our governor finally did something right and brought back Happy hour. The ambience is very chill at Betty, and you feel like you're sneaking booze into a library or basement. I'm all about drinking around books so it worked for me. The Betty offers an $8 cocktail of the day, 1/2 off craft beers and $8 wines. The cocktail they offered last weekend was like a Manhattan but drier. While those drinks aren't my cup of tea, I had a sip and for $8 it will get you tipsy if that's what you're out to accomplish. I had the organic wine which was tasted like a deep cab sav. Pours were decent and the staff was very attentive. We shared the cauliflower which everyone raved about. Yes, it's bomb, especially after a couple glasses of wine. I would definitely return to Betty for an after work drink and bite. I just wish the happy hour drink list was a little more extensive, not that I like to mix liquors or anything..

Great drinks especially gin drinks. Hot vibe. Cool music. Nice small plates....sometimes not so small. Sandy loves the flatbread....serves at least 2. Great attentive service. Cooler than cool. Have fun here.

In for an early, pre-Girl & the Goat drink. Can't remember the games of the drinks but they were great, served by great waitstaff.

Recently, we went here with some good friends and took our dinner. The place was cool, because of its lighting. Good food at a good price, wealthy ambiance and very relaxing. Got a complementary wine so decent.

Attractive room, intriguing food and drink menus. Servers are engaging, but scattershot food-running suggests undertraining. We'll be back, @thebettychicago

3.5 stars. Not a bad place, not an amazing one. It just sort of perfectly fits into that ok category. The plates were good, octopus a bit tough and a bit too much kale in the dish. Really nothing was bad...server did enter the wrong order but came out and told us right away. We didn't even notice and were fine sitting outside for a while. It's a tighter squeeze outside but hey what place with outdoor seating isn't? It's just fine really. The decor inside is great but the it's not likely a place I would seek to go out of my way. One note is that we did not try any drinks so cannot comment there.

Upon a recent visit to Chicago we got to visit The Betty with some friends who recommended it for the cocktails and small dishes. The recommendation was a shinning success! The Betty is a quaint bar with a great cocktail selection and a great, hip atmosphere. We were not disappointed by this choice! The cocktails at The Betty should be your main draw. Our party of four ordered Gimlet, Maximillion, The Oathkeeper, and Life During War Time. I personally had the Life During War Time made with genever, green tea syrup, aperol, and fennel bitters. It was well balanced and the perfect blend of aroma and spices. I highly recommend this cocktail to those who love anise flavors but want something more subdued. For food we went with a pair of small plates and one large plate that my wife and I shared. We ordered Shishito Peppers, Kampaci Crudo, Pierogi, and Lamb with falafel. The stars of our meal were the Kampaci Credo and Pirogi by far, while the peppers and lamb left us with something to be desired. The peppers just really felt like they were missing something because the dish honestly felt like I was munching on a bowl of green salad. The lamb had a very small portion of falafel served with it, and it was over done and slightly bland. On the other side of the spectrum, our Kampaci Crudo was prepared delightfully. The ceviche was well executed, and I loved the pairing of small bits of watermelon, serrano, cucumber, mango, and beets. The pierogi was spot on, and I loved the addition of sausage under each pirogi. The addition of mushroom was a bit odd, but I couldn't really taste it anyways! For dessert we ordered the peach cobbler. The top was a little burn (too much caramelization!), but it was overall an okay option. I just expected more from what we were paying. The service was on point and attentive. I don't think we felt like the server was hovering either. The music was 70s and 80s rock, which our party loved. The drinks coupled with the soundtrack were the real stars of the night. I would come back for sure for a drink, pirogi, and the kampachi crudo. I would also be interested in exploring the menu a little more.

If you are into the whole lumber sexual craze, then come drink at the Betty. It must be a pre-requisite to have a full grown beard in every fashion to work here....because these beards are legit. The feel of the Betty is very 1976 chic upscale moose lodge. Does that make sense? Not really - but you will see what I mean upon arrival. It's packed with old records, cool booths, peacocks, and a serious bar! The drink menu is pretty gin heavy so if that's also your thing, then the Betty is for you. Being anything BUT a gin gal...I was happy to find a whiskey drink. The coffee + cigarettes was right up my alley. And not to mention, after just one I was feelin no pain;) my girlfriend went with the maximillion which was an unsuspecting light and delicious tequila cocktail. Both were perfect! We didn't eat at the Betty this time but judging from the unique and tasty cocktails, I could imagine their food being just as pleasing. The Betty is uber cool...I highly suggest it for good dranks and chill vibes.

Spent 11 minutes tonite sitting at the right end of the bar inside The Betty with nary a bartender or a server bothering to acknowledge my presence or take an order. After staring in the direction of the bartenders for a few minutes (mind you: at 9:45 on a Friday night, it was pretty quiet at the bar so I'm pretty sure the two guys back there saw me), and then sitting with my hands clasped for a while to no avail, I walked out, but not before voicing my displeasure to the hostess. Chicago's a big place so I shouldn't have too much trouble finding someone to take my money, but this was the strangest experience I have had at a bar since moving here three years ago. Parts bad service, part racist (what can I tell you, watching other white customers get served while I sat and waited was a bit appalling), and part wacko? No need to come back.

Got a hot date and don't know where to take her (....or him)? Ponder no more! The ambiance is very cozy and romantic. It has an industrial and antique feel to it. I love the library-like decor on the back wall. The lighting is dim, where the source is predominantly from small candles and lamps. If you're taking someone with you who looks better in the dark than in bright lights, look no further. This is THE spot for it (but you have to come when it's dark outside). If you're going as a group like us, try to opt for the light-colored lounge chairs on the back side of the wall instead of the high chairs/table. They're more comfy! I didn't order any drinks because I was going to be driving back to the suburbs afterward (I know, lame). Maybe that makes my review not even legit??? Buttttt, I did try out one of their desserts, which turned out to be delicious! I ordered the mini pie, which varies in selection by the day. The one I chose was chocolate malt. It was a little cool, soooo incredibly smooth and creamy on the inside and had just the right amount of sweetness. It's a small dessert that I can personally gobble up in two big bites, but you're better off taking small bites and savoring the flavor. The service was good. Our server was very attentive and wasn't overbearing but came at the right times. My water was refilled in a timely manner. Would recommend!

It's all about the drinks and ambiance here. The interior decor resembles a posh library and offers a romantic, classy, and inviting mood. Drinks: Coffee + Cigarettes (definitely get your money's worth). Drink is strong as hell, but easy to sip on. The other one that i tried was Life During War Time - super refreshing but could feel the alcohol creep up. Food: grilled squid (GREAT!) Loved the acidic coating and tasted Chinese? Not that it's a bad thing, just didn't expect it to taste Chinese. Cauliflower and buttered noodles with clams were just okay. I think they forgot to rinse the clams b/c they were packed with sand...we couldn't eat them. I would return in a heart beat for their drinks, given The Betty is only a 7 min walk from my apt, but would skip the food. Food wasn't bad, but nothing to rave about and selection is limited. Warning: slow service on bringing food out. Each dish took about 15 minutes to come out and the place was only 20% full.

I am torn on this review...its like a 3.5 So I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the space. Its like library meets bar, meets restaurant, meets lounge. Reminds me of "The Office" but much easier to get into. The chairs comfortable and the space just seemed rich. LOVE...or as the young folk would say...its so fleek. They recently are allowing reservations but they must only have a few available online because they had none on the website, but when I called, it was no problem. I hate having to call for a reservation...but I really wanted to check out this place. I also suffer from FOMO. hehehe The host staff...I have to say...I love them. They make you feel the vibe and they make you feel like you are important. We had a few people that looked like they were important come check on us...which was nice. Ha. The service was spotty. Server was nice...but just kind of absent and then all over us. It was weird. Like no drink refills for awhile and then trying to take full drinks away. The tables are tiny...so I understand the need to feel like clearing the plates, drinks, water, etc...but when you have a table of 4 girls...we like to pick and talk and sip and pick. I thought the coursing out of the meal was meh and the order of things was also odd. This is how it was laid out. Flatbread-surprisingly delish and HUGE! I loved the spice in the sausage. It was perfect Fried Cauliflower-people are raving...I thought it was good...but not the best dish. Croquettes-not impressed. Not much flavor at all. Cheese board-extremely unimpressed. It just didnt go together. Squid Salad-YUM! It was the perfect dish. Crisp and light. Tikka Masala-great flavor...I wasnt a fan of the messiness of the dish. Bones, etc. I also didnt see any chicharones...maybe they were hidden? I know its just getting started so I think it will work out all the kinks and be fantastic. Its just not there yet.

Okay, wow. We went to The Betty to celebrate my new job offer because we didn't want to go very far (we live in Hyde Park). Long story short The Betty is my new go-to. I can guarantee I'm going to be a regular here for multiple reasons. We arrived and came first to a curtained entry way and put our name on the wait list. We were told it would be about 30-40 minutes; It was a Saturday night so we expected it to be packed. The host suggested we run over to The Publican for a drink, which we thought was a fabulous idea, loving The Publican as well. Within 15 minutes, I got a text that they could seat us. We headed over and got to go **behind the curtain.** It was awesome. Totally 1920s speakeasy full of hip but unpretentious people and comfy seats and tables that make it great for dinner, drinks, groups, or dates. It's loud enough to feel private but we could still hear each other talk!!! That is such a rarity and seriously a major plus on our list. We didn't end up eating but I got to start the Maximillion. But when I saw my boyfriends's DIY Gin & Tonic, I knew I had to get that next. They bring you a platter with fancy tonic and gin in a beaker and little bottles with rubber droppers so you can add your own add-ins. Seriously, too much fun. This place was seriously my favorite bar EVER. I can't wait to go back.

Good place for quality drinks especially for a big party. Good cocktails, but there's something off with the ambiance. It might be a little too big for the vibe that's it's trying to set. Almost as if it belongs in river north. It's like a Sportsmanship club on steroids. That's why though it's good for big parties. Definitely a good go to place, but nothing unique that the city doesn't already offer.

Betty? Is that your name? Well it fits you perfectly as this bar has an old fashioned vibe just like the moniker it has. Based in the old Lumen space, trust me, there is nothing here to remind you of that contemporary offering. For once you push past the heavy green curtain, you'll find yourself in a huge space with plenty of little places to mix and gather. At one end, library books fill the shelves. On another is the bar stretching across the length of the room. And across the front are windows looking out onto the street. And all the dark wood makes the place feel vintage although the cool light fixtures will have you thinking otherwise. We were a group of 6 and were seated in a comfy hightop booth right behind the hostess stand. And speaking of the hostess, this place has a gem of a hostess. I think her name was Kiera (?) and she made our night from welcoming us to the place, taking our coats and hanging them on hooks nearby, and pretty much welcoming us into "her space" like it was her own home. If this was our first impression of how the night was going to go, we knew we were in for a good time. The food is all shareable and share is what we did. We ordered a wide range of the menu from the cheese plate, to fried cauliflower, to croquettes, to the Tika Masala, to the pasta with beef ragout, and the squid salad. All were good although the croquettes and pasta were probably the favorites. And if that wasn't enough, we ordered one of each of the 3 desserts and all were terrific although my favorite was the pistachio cupcake. And let's not forget the drinks. For you gin drinkers out there, this is a gin paradise. They even do a customizable gin and tonic that you can do at the table. If vodka is your thing, as is mine, there is a limited selection of vodka but they do a nice job in making speciality cocktails with it. And go with the server's reccos on the cocktail list and you won't be disappointed! I also liked that the manager came over to welcome us to the bar and made sure that we had everything that we wanted. If you drive, there is valet parking out front that will run you about $14. Also know that after 8pm there is an 18 and older rule. Check out the Betty. She's as cool as her name suggests in that simple, old school sort of way!

I went here Thursday night to celebrate a friend's birthday. The space is big and then I figured out I had been there in my clubby days when it was Lumens. What a difference a remodel makes. I didn't like the original table they had us sitting at cause it had a big pillar blocking you from the other half of the table. After we requested to sit somewhere else they moved us to the big circle area at the end of the bar and it was perfect! To eat I ordered the lamb flat bread and it was a little spicy, which I liked. I went with the Maxamillion for my drink, it's tequila based and sweet. To celebrate the bday girl I ordered the chocolate mini pie and the keylime one. In my opinion both were just okay. The thing I probably noticed besides the cute interior was the wonderful service. Our waiter was awesome! Very attentive and helpful. I have The Betty on my list of places to come back to and visit.

I went back for a girls night out and we ordered food this time. Our birthday girl did a nice job selecting some yummy bites and had our server pace them throughout the night so we were never stuffed and were still able to make it out after dinner for drinks. The food was all quite good, but I would think of this place as more of a place for drinks with food - rather than a place for food with drinks. Make sense? That's what is driving my 5 stars, I'm not sure I'd give this a 5 star rating on the basis of food. It was good, but not 5 star good. I will definitely be back!

We went last night for a round of cocktails and tried some food too. The ambience is romantic and intimate and takes you back in time. Sadly, nothing that we ordered stood out and I was disappointed with my cocktail as well as the appetizers. I got the Coffee & Cigarette, and the sweet vermouth ruined the drink for me since that's all I could taste. Had it not had Vermouth, or had very little of it, may have resulted in a more balanced drink. For food we tried the Chicken & Ham croquettes and the Lamb Flatbread. For $17, I was expecting more from the flatbread! Between a spicy sauce and a yogurt sauce, I couldn't really taste any other flavors. I was able to check the box since The Betty is new to the West Loop/Fulton Market scene but I don't see the need to return for over priced sub par food and cocktails.

Had a girls night out to celebrate one of my bestie's b-day. I picked The Betty based on their reviews and wanting to try some place new in the West Loop. The drinks were great, the menu consists of small plates and large plates, and very limited. We ordered the small plates so that we could try a little bit of everything. We ordered the fried cauliflower, which had a very interesting flavor, the squid salad, and the lamb flatbread. All were great and enough to share amongst us all. The ambiance was nice, beautiful bar. The service was a little slow but overall a great experience.

Husband and I grabbed a drink here while we were waiting for our table at The Publican next door. Holy hipster haven. I actually really like hipster-y things (sue me) and I really liked the ambiance. They were playing cool music and everyone we encountered was very friendly and nice. I loved the drink I had, Maximillion. It tasted like a cinnamon red hot. What I didn't like was the price: $13 per drink. Tastes like burning. I did see that they offered mini pies on their menu. Sometimes a bitch gotta put her beef aside and have a mini pie.

Accidentally ran into this place after an evening at Moto. Thought we were peaking into Publican. Turns out, its BETTER than publican. A busy bar with lots of different areas of seating. There can be a line, but it also means, the place is not so busy you can't get a drink and you can enjoy the people you are with. Good drink list. Ok beer list. Bartenders are SUPER knowledgeable so they can make anything to your liking. Will go back.

PERFECT - Romantic and Trendy restaurant with a Creative Vibe with the best bartenders. Small plates menu that has interesting flavors. A huge bar area and dining area. No reservations- but it's not difficult to get seats. If you appreciate mixology- then I strongly recommend Betty. I have tried 5 different cocktails on and off the menu and being a Mojito Snob I know that it was perfectly crafted. This is on 3 different occasions- twice for late weekend nights and once for happy hour. Forget that though- come anytime! They are rockstars are getting you a table no matter what time you come in and work fast. I love the vintage decor with books and pieces on shelves. I love the fried cauliflower- it's probably the BEST way to eat a cauliflower and the flatbread was perfect to share! I will always get the flatbread on every visit.

Met a friend for happy hour and loved everything about The Betty! We came at 6:30 on a Thursday with no reservations and were seated right away. In fact, throughout my evening there, there were tables open. Don't get me wrong, it was definitely busy and "happening" but easy to get a seat with no reservation. The hostess and server were both very friendly and helpful. Cocktails can be hit or miss, but I loved what the server suggested. So much so that I got the same one twice. It was the Alfonso, which had my perfect balance of sparkling and not sweet. The space is much larger than I thought it would be. I'd say it's twice as big as the "loungey" vibe I was imagining. Love that there are plenty of hooks to hang coats/bags throughout and next to tables. The vibe and seating definitely lends itself to a first date spot if that's what you're looking for. Looking forward to coming back again for drinks AND to try out the dinner menu!

I've been here twice now and I think The Betty is both a great spot and nice addition to the area. It's the perfect place to get some snacks and drinks, kill some time before a dinner reservation, celebrate something, or for some classier group drinking. On my first visit, I had a few rounds of the Coffee & Cigarettes (their Old Fashioned/Manhattan hybrid) which was smooth and well balanced. I also tried sips of many of the other cocktails (the names of which are lost on me) but all were very good. Not overly sweet and a good level of booziness. On the second visit, I stuck with the sparkling Vouvray they had, which was exceptionally good. Much better than I expected. I've had a fair share of champagnes/sparkling wines and I ended up having 3 and writing down the name to get some at Binny's. I also tried a sip of my girlfriend's "A Cobbler" - a sherry based cocktail. And it was really tasty. Dangerous on a warm day. We also tried the pierogi's and herbed cheese spread. Both were good. Didn't blow my socks off, but a nice hold-over until dinner elsewhere. Not a place I would go for a meal, but I will definitely be back.

I visited The Betty for the first time over the weekend to meet up with friends for a birthday. We arrived around 8:30 and the place was already packed. We needed a table for four but only two of us were in attendance. The staff placed us at a table to 'hold' a spot while they looked for another one. I initially thought they'd just put us there forever, but the hostess did come back twice to give us updates and was able to move us to the more 'fun' part of the room (we were originally near the door and it was really cold and away from the more bustling part of the restaurant/bar). In any case, we were served drinks at our original table and the staff nicely moved us and our tab to the new table, which was nice of them (and without a hint of complaint even though our servers changed - and actually all of them helped us at the new spot). I enjoyed the atmosphere. it's dark, but not impossible to see and there are different areas. The middle part is sort of an area with high tables near the real part of the bar. Then there are lower tables ringing this part along the windows in front as well as around toward the bathrooms. Then, there's an additional back part that has couches and comfy chairs. All in all, plenty of spots to sit. However, it does skew more restaurant than bar. I'm not sure if this is intentional or not as most of what I've read about it is that it's a bar...but apparently their food is tasty as I saw plenty of people eating it. I did like that on the menu, there are cute little dessert items for $1 each if you want! So..on to drinks. There are plenty of cocktails and even a gin and tonic that you mix yourself with a variety of items. I didn't try this, but the guy at the table next to us had two of them, and we finally asked what he was drinking. He said it was delicious and fun to mix them up. I tried some wine, which I thought was good, though their wine list does skew more unique than others. I didn't like one of the wines I had a sip of at the end of the night when they ran out of the one I had tried earlier. It wasn't bad, just not to my taste. I think if you're willing to ask questions about the wines and/or know your various wine regions of the world, you'll be fine with this list, but don't expect it to be an easy read (i.e., Greek wines, Croatian wines, etc - all very good, just not as easy to know taste if you're not familiar). I personally love to try new wines, and have tried some interesting ones before, so I enjoyed this. Service as alluded to already was great. Friendly, attentive and was definitely there when you needed them. All in all, a good spot, but I will say that it is a bit more expensive than I expected (I guess I expected more of a broad range of prices - which didn't really exist). However, wine pours are nicely sized and the cocktails are also generous, so it's not like one of those spots that charges a lot for a sip of something. It's right next door to the Publican, so I expect they get a lot of pre or post dinner visitors. Definitely worth a visit, but be prepared to wait if crowded. Atmosphere - 5 Value - 4 Drinks - 5 Bathrooms - 4 (and interesting/odd barber chair outside of the bathrooms makes for a good photo op) Service - 5

I'm teetering. On the one hand, Betty's focus was to provide a swanky place for drinks to bring back the Mad Men appeal of leather, vinyl records and cigars - without the smoke, thank goodness. The other, good food to accompany when one has too much to drink. Many of the items, be they liquid or solid has an funky appeal. Milk Punch, with clarified milk and the process described by our servers seemed less appetizing, but when it comes out looks harmless, yet packs a punch. I took sips of half the cocktail menu: Alfonso, War Time, something with red, clear and green and a giant mint tree on top fitted with a straw and coin.... Conclusion: classy, respectable, however, too much ice and needs a swig more syrup. All ingredients are high quality, the balance was off. The star was the food. I had a bite of the chicken tikka and croquettes and they were amazing. Most dishes were very savory paired with fantastic sauces, textures and flavors. Unfortunately, the round coffee table seating is a bit awkward for dining, but the flatware is exquisite. Clearly, this place is a big lounge meant for drinking, not eating. I get it :) TL;DR: Cocktails - $$$, fresh ingredients, most drinks veered on strong bitters (add more housemade syrups) and a few of them look like slushies (my advice: use larger ice cubes), 3 stars. Food - surprisingly amazing 4 stars, nice work chefs. Tufted, retro, bookshelves - places like these elevates, if not, reinforces Chicago's strong status in the food and drinks scene.

I absolutely love this place! The decor consists of a lot of candles and low lit lights. It's rustic and classy. The cocktails are on point visually as well as taste. The pineapple upside cake dessert is delish! I could definitely see this being my new drink spot.

What a neat place. The decor is trendy and takes you back in time. I have yet to try the food but the menu sounds great. The drinks are very good. They're different then what you will find somewhere else. They have a few craft beers but the list is very small. They mainly focus on cocktails. This is the perfect to take a date for drinks and a few small plates to share.

Their food is salty AF. The water glasses that they use are not nearly as big enough as they need to be for the way they spice and over-salt the food. We started off with the croquettes and I thought that they were salty because croquettes are salty by nature, but then every dish thereafter was the same. The atmosphere was trying a little too hard with dim lighting and 1950's-esque ambience. There are plenty of other better options on Randolph and the surrounding area.

Iiiiii dunno what happened here. Like many people, I'm sure, the sweets and I walked in here as The Publican doesn't have a bar to sit at while awaiting the remainder of your dinner party. We thought, and maybe it's because we don't visit places in this area much at all, if once a year at best, so we don't know the uh, protocol, but we thought ya know, just walk up to the bar, grab a drink, hang out and wait, ya know, like you do. Ya know, normal. Nope. The hostess chased us all the way down and ushered us to a table. She seemed irritated with us for our apparent faux pas, tsk tsk'ed us a bit, grilled us on our intentions then walked away. Ok. That was odd. We order a round of wine, service was overly attentive, drinks took forever. Hostess comes back, grills us again about something and admonishes. Ok, this is getting weird, we say to each other. The remainder of our dinner party arrives, the hostess corralling them to our allocated area, tells them we need to stay very close to the table, herding them with her arms, or move to another, larger table. Everyone in the party now feels weird by her strange behavior, so we move to a larger table. Everyone orders a beverage, my sweet asked for another. Drinks again took forever, service fell off drastically, the server forgot my sweet's wine. Two minutes on the nose prior to our dinner reservation next door, the hostess comes back and asks us if we're leaving, do we want the check, do we want the check, are you leaving now, oh but I'm not trying to rush you out, I'll go get your check though. We all look at each other like, huh? What the heck is going on? I guess we're leaving. Why is the hostess so domineering and demanding of such specific and rigid regulation? The decor is interesting but it feels a bit forced and borderline too trendy. The space is large and dark which is cool, supports the two stars at least. We didn't get it. Aaaand, we won't again, no worries.

Great cocktails, very attentive staff and wonderful ambiance. Drink prices were a little steep. This place would be great with some live music. Maybe bring some jazz or blues into the space.

The food at this place can best be described as soggy. We're so disappointed. Endive was soaked in dressing/sauce. Octopus was abnormally chewy on a bed of warmed, soaked kale: it was the worst dish we had. The spaghetti was also drowning in a clam sauce. No finesse on anything. Flavor combos made no sense: octopus had stewed tomato with wet kale. Spaghetti had olive with clams, or Endive had pear with a weird balsamic?? Server was very positive, but there's no way you really think all these small plates are actually good. Guess we ordered the wrong stuff, gross!

Our server literally quit her job on the spot over another table. Awkward. Decor feels forced, and overengineered. $25 for two well-liquor drinks is pretty dumb. But hey it's the West Loop, people love this spot.

Best bar ever!!! The ambiance is amazing and the drinks are even better!! It's modern but old school, and the drinks are so fancy and delicious. I can't get over the great drinks, great service, great location. We did a "build your own gin and tonic" and it was awesome! The cheese plate was to die for too. The red pepper chutney - YUM. Give me a jar of that and a spoon and I'll die happy. The ambiance is great. There's a bar you can sit at, and other very casual seating areas that you can cozy up to. It's huge! You don't feel like you're sitting on your neighbor's lap. It's even a great place to go alone and just relax in the corner with a high-end drink. I will absolutely be back here!! Five stars for sure!

Saturday afternoon cocktails with friends... Love the space and as another reviewer pointed out, very "Mad Men" like vibe --- classic dark wood and subtle lighting. Very comfortable space... I started out with the "Coffee & Cigarettes" - AH-MAZING! Rye, sweet vermouth, madagascar vanilla, orange flower water. Other drinks looked great but this one was so in my wheel house I didn't want anything else. One of my friends ordered the "Make Your Own Gin & Tonic which was really cool. Thinking it will make for a great summer cocktail. We didn't eat but glancing around the room, the food looked great. The service was also very good and the manager came by the table to check in on us. I also noticed a piano which I am hoping means classic lounge music in the future. Definitely heading back here soon before it becomes impossible to get in because its so popular :)

I did some research on finding this place for our next date night! I was super excited to try it after reviewing the menu and reading the yelp reviews. I loved the atmosphere of the whole place. Definitely my style. Very cool with retro vibes. Let me just say the food was absolutely delicious. We ordered several small plates and grazed for a couple hours. The octopus and masala were my favorites! The tikka missal was beautiful,..the chicken just fell off the bone, perfect. The cocktails:delicious! I ordered an Alpine Coffee at the bar..they did the coffee in a French press so it takes longer to make..but boy was it lovely. I recommend it as a night cap! I'd give this place five stars if it weren't for one thing:terrible service. We had this blonde waitress, who I refer to her by hair color because she never bothered to even tell us her name. The whole night, from start to finish, she acted as if she just hated her job and life in general. We would go 10-15 minutes without seeing her anywhere. And when we did see her, she would pretty much avoid eye contact and we'd have to flag her down. Her attitude was terrible and barely spoke to us. It got to the point where my boyfriend had to go get our next round of drinks from the bar. Everyone else at The Betty was very helpful and lovely. Even the gentlmen that cleared our table had gave us more smiles and conversation than our waitress. I don't know if she was quitting soon or having a bad day. It shouldn't matter. I've been in the service industry many years, and you don't let your bad day effect your work...because then it reflects very poorly on the business. Service is everything. Other than her,... A message to the owner..I love the place. It's beautiful and you've done a great job. I heard The Betty is still a baby, and wish to see it thrive. I hope to come back and try the rest of the menu in the future!

We celebrated my husband's 40th birthday at The Betty with 15 of our friends. When I called to book, Katie was very friendly and helpful. I called again to confirm the count a few days before and pre-order some appetizers for my guests and again Katie was super helpful. The night went off without a hitch and our friends had a great night! Thanks for everything!

Nifty spot for a cocktails (yes, plural) and appetizers! I had a dry Rob Roy on the rocks with a twist and pretended it was 1963. The herb cheese spread was yummy as was the lamb. My best friend and I loved our time here. Of rourse it doesn't hurt that they have one of the coolest displays of liquor bottles and inventive cocktail menus that I've ever seen and one of the waiters that is half my friend's age flirted with her. We tipped him well.

WOW! What an amazing place!!! I went there with my two girlfriends and everything was PERFECT! The ambiance is exceptional! They have everything from a super cool lounge to pub tables. Their cocktail were spot on and carefully crafted. But honestly, where the place where they really shined was the menu. I'm a huge foodie and EVERYTHING really hit the spot! We started with their squid salad which was amazing! Then moved onto their homemade pierogis (yum!) and fried cauliflower, both were exquisite. And then, came the cheeeessseee!!! I love cheese and the selections Chef Rachel made could not have been better. Each was more dynamic and flavorful than the last and their homemade chutney was to die for!!!! Last, but in no way least, was their homemade peppermint patties - Yummmmmmm! Brought me back to my childhood :) Needless to say I will be recommending this place to everyone I know! Thanks for an amazing experience guys! Keep up the good work!

This was the first stop on a Chicago West Loop bar crawl the other night and it was a comfy dark spot perfect for the first cocktail of the evening. I ordered the Coffee & Cigarettes: rye, sweet vermouth, madagascar vanilla, orange flower water because those are 2 of my favorite things. It was delicious. Light and perfectly balanced. I wish I could have tasted the whole cocktail menu! Alas, I just have an excuse to go back for more and more!

Just went there this past weekend for a friends med school graduation party and couldn't of asked for anything better. The party planner, Kara, was super nice. She was down to earth and made party planning fun, which is hard to do. We connected so well over the phone we hugged when we met. The drinks were great but my only complaint would be that they took forever to come. I started ordering my next one with half a drink left and still twenty minutes later wait for my drink. Other than that, fun chilled atmosphere!

Let's keep a long story short: the hostess was a total B. You're in a customer service industry; maybe you had a long day, I get it, we all do, but even when I'm at work and don't wanna put up with someone, I still try and be respectful - not the case with the Betty. The hostess immediately told us that since we didn't have a reservation and we didn't have our entire party there, we had to sit at a bar and our last friend would "just have to stand". Ok, our bad for not knowing we had to think ahead. Our unfortunate friend then got there late, so the rest of us had to endure our withering stares the entire time said friend hadn't arrived. Drinks are ... interesting, somewhat limited in beer. Cocktails are somewhat stiff. Crowds are ... Borderline hipster/yuppie. Cool decor, but really that was it. Try the publican next door, least they're not tryna put on an air with you.

Small crowd yet poor service. Where or where did my waiter go? Never checked on me, nor did he come back for food order. Food menu interesting. Did not have anything so can not comment Love the fact there are no TV'S and you can have a nice conversation with friends. Good for after work drinks,

Loved this place! I love the atmosphere and the different seating options. I like the drink menu and how its different than most "cocktail bars." I started off with the coffee and cigarettes, and boy was this strong! I ended up switching with my boyfriend who had ordered the jalapeno tequila one. Both were delish! I ended up exploring the wine list after my initial cocktail and thought it was OK. Next time, I am definitely sticking to cocktails. Its a great spot for girlfriends or for a nice date. I would highly recommend checking The Betty out!!

Vegans beware! This bad review is 100% based on the waitress. The ambiance was nice and drinks were good... Once I received a vegan drink. I asked the waitress if the wine was vegan. She said, "Yes, I am absolutely certain they are vegan." I ask again becuse most people do not know most red wine is Not vegan. She assures me again (she says she works at a winery), so I ordered it. After I drank it; I decided to check and its NOT vegan per barnivore.

First off, Rachel Dow. Wow! She's insanely creative with this competitive menu due to the area. Well done girl. Bar is perfect for a quiet date or hanging with a buddy. Cocktails hit all spectrums of your preferred pallete. Beer menu is a small one but on key. Sitting area is wide and large. A little but of VIP area with comfy deco chairs. I like sitting by the book shelf. My only beef: uptight customers. Undue that work 'power tie' and relax. Employees here work their tail off for you. Treat them well.

What a warm welcome we received from the hostess as we walked in from the FREEZING cold! We were sat and attended to immediately. Decent drinks and sweet service. The manager came by our table to check on us. It's dark inside but not blinding which I liked. They played some excellent but unexpected tunes from Fleetwood Mac and others which reassured me that we wouldn't be surrounded with annoying millennials. Whether you are eating or not, you get to sit which is nice but then it's not conducive to mingling and meeting new people since you're separated by way of table. Interestingly the music transitioned to rap or hip-hop ish music which was a downer. I found the manager and asked what the deal was and that the previous music was fantastic. He politely explained it was his choice to change the music to something more "late night." I replied "Oh are you trying to attract the River North crowd?" which I think he was offended by - not that I blame him. So I just walked away being a tad buzzed. My apologies.

Huge disappointment, I had my birthday party here and my entire family came, hired sitters and drove all the way from streamwood. The service was so bad that I was embarrassed for choosing it. We could not hear each other at all. We had to ask for silverware five times. The waitress had to be asked to take our drink orders. Food was coming out before our drinks, huge no no! We ordered everything on the menu multiple times. Some items were really good and some were mediocre. The Betty pretty much ruined my birthday dinner. Luckily it was the 25th and not something substantial.

I went to The Betty with a small group of friends during the weekend. The atmosphere is exactly what you need for a night with friends. Howevere, it tends to be a little too loud for a pleasant conversation. Drinks were the really disappointing part. My first cocktail was not impressive and I literally couldn't drink more than a sip of the second. I wouldn't go back, but I would recommend trying it.

Great cocktail lounge and plenty of room to fit all of your friends. Stopping by for a going away party for an old friend, it was refreshing to see so much space and an entire area where we took up a good amount of space. Classy decor there were comfy chairs, room to move and a large couch in the back area. The back area had a server who was attentive to go around and make sure you were well fed with drinks, and she was faster than trying to go to the bar where the bartenders did not bother to give me the time of day. The food menu did not seem to have anything I wanted and the prices were a bit high. I stuck to a porter on draft and had some Three Floyd's Yum Yum. The place is a bit pricey for my tastes but is not a bad place to have a cocktail and lounge out with a crew of your besties. The music was country or some folksy type so I was not really down with that either but it is not loud enough for you to bother too much.

I was so utterly disappointed in this place. I went for dinner on Saturday night. When we walked in, there were three tables total inside, and several two tops outside. We elected to sit outside, where we were sat at a table for two (there were four of us in the party; the table was probably 18 inches in diameter). The waitress came promptly and we placed our drink orders and the cheese plate. It took about 15 minutes for the drinks to come, and even longer for the cheese plate. And let me be clear about this "cheese plate". There was literally four tiny triangles of cheese. Total. We were literally enjoying "nibbles" of cheese. Not quite what we were hoping for. Also, once we had our drinks and the "cheese plate" it was very evident that the four of us and our food were not going to fit on the two top. We asked if we could bring up another table, and while we were obliged, the server seemed annoyed. After we ordered our drinks, we noticed that the waitress had also taken our menus away, and we had to ask for them to be returned so we could actually order the meal. The other members of my party ordered a variety of plates, including the beef special, which was supposed to have peaches. No peaches could be found. I ordered the octopus and gnocchi, and while it was okay, it was nothing I would consider returning for. Overall, for a Fulton Market restaurant, I found the Betty to be rather pedestrian and the service to be sub par. While the inside has a cool ambiance, there are too many other great restaurants literally within walking distance that the Betty would not be a place I returned.

After taking my husband out for a scrumptious birthday dinner, we headed here to meet up with some friends for a birthday drink. The space is huge! It's very dimly lit and has quite a bit of seating. Our friends had already snagged a table for the 4 of us so luckily we didn't have to wrestle for a table. Our waitress was helpful which is always a good thing. I decided to be wild and crazy and I got a random mixed drink. It was really tart and not my thing. So I switched to wine. There is a cool room in the back of the place that has a barbers chair and one of those red and white barbers poles- of course we had a total photo shoot in there! All in all, this was a cool space and we were quite happy with it!

fantastic new spot on fulton. very "mad men" like with the dark wood, peacock, and old shaving chair by the bathrooms. although we only had drinks, i can vouch for others around us saying how yummy the dishes were. this is a go-to for dates, work, singles, whatever you are-you are welcomed. oh, by the way, zombie dust on tap. kaboom! ps-get the cobbler cocktail. you're welcome.

This place is on point! Great drinks and fantastic service. Their manager Casey is a true asset to the place; I have never seen someone more attentive and involved in making sure everyone is taken care of. Same is true for the bartenders. And the owners always seem to be on premises and involved, which I can appreciate. Ambience is perfect for a date, a get-together with friends or just a night out in Fulton Market. A hidden gem in my opinion.

What a wonderful way to get introduced to the life and style of the West Loop. Just called for a reservation and the Red carpet was not only out, but also warm and cushy. I can not wait until my time to shine. Cheers to all from the DC transplant. J

It's tough to pull off a speakeasy vibe in a massive converted loft space. The slim high tops, small tables, dim lighting, and predictable library create a faux-intimate environment that veered away from the ever popular communal tables but I can't say they nailed it. That was the theme of the evening - didn't quite nail it. Cocktails were 2.5-star (went with the coffee & cigarettes, a bit on the syrupy side) service was fine, music was enjoyable, and lime meringue pie was underwhelming. We did however love the accommodating hostess who earned the restaurant its 3rd star. It's a nice addition to the budding Fulton Market District but it doesn't hold the weight of its out of this world neighbors. When you are next door to game changers like Publican and down the street from the Aviary, you need to bring your A game. The Betty was, well, a B.

I had high expectations for The Betty as I am a huge fan of Bangers & Lace, and after walking by before the opening it looked absolutely stunning. I was slightly disappointed. The space might be a bit large, and it doesn't really fit in with the neighborhood. It is more of a restaurant than a bar. It is not really a place to mingle. You need a table and stay with your group. That being said, the cocktails are delightful and I was a huge fan of the mushroom pierogis. There are many more items on the menu I'm interested in tasting. Although it was not what I expected and not necessarily a great fit for Fulton, I would go back for drinks and dinner. I would not go there when looking for a night out at a bar, there are other places that fit that mold in the area.

Really enjoyed this spot, went with a group of 10 and they did a great job accommodating us. Good selection of cocktails and drinks to satisfy everyone, the G&T has an impressive presentation - think personal mixologist set. The waitress was attentive, the only thing that holds it back from being 5 stars was the servers bringing the drinks seemed confused every time of what drinks they had and who they were for!

We went here on Friday night of Memorial Day weekend. It wasn't as crowded as I expected, which was a bonus. Very friendly greeting at the door - offered to sit wherever we wanted. Our server, Juliana, was so friendly and nice! No 'tude here whatsoever. We didn't have food but the menu looked varied and yummy w both small and larger plates. They had a nice cocktail list with some very unique items I hadn't seen before. The cocktail special of the day was a do-it-yourself G&T which came with 2 oz Ford's gin, Fever Tree Mediterranean tonic (much smoother than even the regular Fever Tree), limes, and vials of grapefruit juice and Peychaud's bitters. Now, you may think "why the heck should I pay $14 for a drink I have to make myself"?? But it was really fun playing mixologist! I was able to make the drink to my exact specifications. Really Ingenious IMO. I would come back here in a heartbeat. Beautiful space and really nice staff

Love love love. Adorable, great drinks and fantastic staff!!! It was cold and raining and we wandered in after being given the run around down the street at The Aviary. They found a place for our party of 6 to seat even though they were packed! Can't say enough good things about this place!!

I came here on a Saturday night with my girlfriends and was overall pleased. The ambiance is really cool and on trend. We just had drinks, which were just okay. I got the gin fizz special, and was surprised when it came that I was going to have to make it myself! I am no bartender, so I think I would have preferred to just have it pre made for me. I'd like to come back for dinner.

This review is going to sound weird. I've not eaten here. I did get "A+" treatment while coordinating with the wonderful Kira to plan my wife's birthday party at The Betty, however. I took up so much of her time to set up plans for a party of twelve, then down to a party of six, she was kind of OK with us bringing a male stripper to the party but mostly not OK with it. Then, when my wife and her ladyfriends ordered me to cancel the reservation less than an hour before we were supposed to dine, Kira was extremely cool about it and supported the move. It was Jenny's birthday after all, and Jenny deserves to do what she wants!! If Kira is a reflection of the people that work there, I know we will enjoy our (first) visit!!

If you're not caucasion, or seemingly so - don't go. My friends and I tried to go today (3/6). I arrived around 8:30pm and waited in the entrance for my friends to catch up. It was cold and i didn't want to stand outside. I witnessed two parties of about 3 arrive and allowed in after being asked to show their ID. Les than 5 minutes later my party arrived (2 black females, 1 black male, 1 latina female, 1 while male) and we were told it would be a 30 minute wait. One person in my party asked if we could just grab a drink NEAR the bar without requiring a seat and we were denied. Told we would need to wait at least 30 minutes. It was clear to me after what was happening. Even if you smile when you tell us, we still realize what's happening. Will not return. Use your own judgement.

River North comes to the west loop. Including some dbag in a suit at the front door making you wait in line when bar is 75% full. The bartenders seemed to be annoyed when we asked to order and begrudgingly gave us our beers. They than ignored us; even our attempts to pay. I guess they were too busy growing their beards. So we left money on the bar and went to lone wolf. If you have room in the bar, let people in. If you are a bartender, smile and serve drinks. Simple formula that The Betty failed.

I think we hit them on a off night. I made a res on Open Table, they didn't have it, asked me "are you sure you shouldn't be at the Publican". No, sorry, I know where I made the res, and where had planned to be, but maybe things would've gone smoother had we been at the Publican. I told them I could show them the email confirm...'no, it's ok, happens all the time'. (I've never had an issue w Open Table res's and have been using them since they started). So they seat us, we order lovely cocktails, and peruse the menu, when a guy brings plates, flatware, and glides away from our table, taking the menu with him (ps can you bring a menu for each of us? Not just one to share? Thx). So, next objective, get a menu back so we can order. Scored menu, ordered food, several plates to share. We ask the waiter for a wine suggestion, he suggests pairing white w our first two dishes, red with the next two. Great, so we're thinking they're bringing wine by the glass, and instead they set up for bottle. Rough week, hard to turn down a nice Sancerre, so we go with the flow and keep the bottle. Annnddd, turned out we needed it because the gap was so long on our food that we had to nurse the rest of the bottle to make it thru the 2nd plate it was supposed to pair with. By now, we're at 2 hours in, 2 small plates, 2 cocktails, and a bottle of white...and we're only 2 people. So waiter comes back and asks about the red, we say, what can we do by the glass, no need for a full bottle. He offers to cork it if we don't finish it. Forget it, back to cocktails. 2 hours later we finish our 2 remaining plates and cocktail. The lamb flatbread was so spicy, I swear I drank the whole bottle of water on the table by myself. Great flavor, but so glad we didn't do wine. So, we were there 4 hours in all. Nice place, food had great flavor (tho small menu), but I hadn't expected the flow of service we experienced.

TL;DR: Mixed reviews on cocktails . Our waitress was great. The hostess was awful. The atmosphere unexpectedly loud and slightly obnoxious, and unsurprisingly pretentious. The decor is pretty/dark/hipster. My friends and I arrived and were greeted by a polite guy asking to see our IDs. He directed us towards the hostess, who promptly asked how many in our party. We were four, but expecting a fifth. She said gruffly, "OK. But ultimately how many will you have?" to which we replied, "five". She then said, "I can seat you at those bar seats right there, and I recommend you stay there the whole night. The fifth person will just have to stand." This became a battle throughout the night as we watched other people be seated at larger tables, some of whom had smaller parties. When I mentioned one table to the hostess, she said that a party had been waiting for that specific table for over an hour. That party consisted of TWO people.. for a table that would seat 6+. Eventually, two others showed up half an hour later, still making use of extra seats to hold their jackets. Our waitress was understanding and kept working with the hostess. Another table of eight went to a party of six... and by that time we were done with The Betty - already planning never to go back. The first cocktail we had was the Cobbler, which was sweet on the front, but had a super bitter finish. We ordered a beer to replace the cocktail and the waitress took immediate notice of my friend's dislike of the cocktail and took it away. The mlik punch was slightly deceiving - it's not a classic milk punch, but rather uses "clarified" milk. It tasted pretty great. The Willet Rye was ridiculously strong - recommend getting it on the rocks. And the beers were tasty - loved the IPA. I would like to point out that the waitress we had (a pretty Asian gal, in case the staff would like to reward her for her awesome service, which she totally deserves!), smiled through all of our complaints and was exceedingly friendly, helpful, and knowledgable. She definitely saved our visit to The Betty and helped negate some of the disappointment we had. A bartender or waiter did come by with a random beer and said it was on the house. We don't know who sent it or prompted it and we didn't even know what beer it was - we figured it out after our own taste test. While the gesture was appreciated, it would've been better handled if they actually asked what drink we might want ... plus ... how does a party of five share one beer? P.S. The fifth person did have to stand. The whole time.

This place is good enough, but it seems a bit bland for Fulton Market. The decor is ok, the food and drinks were ok (but VERY expensive!), the service was ok, the clientele is ok... It's basically just inoffensive. I normally think of Fulton Market/Restaurant Row places to be edgier or more innovative, and this place was exactly like 10 different River North bars I've visited. If you have to go here, you won't have a terrible time. But if it's your choice, I'd choose somewhere else.

I have been to The Betty 3 times now, I loved it the first time and it gets better and better. The space is totally remodeled, now it's loungy with comfortable chairs. The decor is sophisticated and relaxing. I ordered a few dishes, including the pasta with meat (I'm terrible with names), and chicken dish that had Indian flavoring. Amazing. The food is absolutely delicious. I've enjoyed a few cocktails and some wine from them, their selection is more my style. I think their mixology drinks are creative and fun, but I'm more of a wine drinker. This is a great place to talk, as the music is not loud but good. Not the "thump thump" that I hate hearing when I go out. This place is now my 'go to.' The service is also excellent, with a lovely staff. Love it. I may go there tonight!

great place in fulton market. pretty close to the new garish neon sign in the area. surprisingly busy earlier in the evening - but prob since it's the only loungey place in fulton market. located in the old lumen space, but no similarities there dark wood, eclectic but comfortable inside. be prepared for a wait if you don't come early. bartenders were friendly and great, very knowledgeable about the menu. all the food we tried was impeccable - the flatbread (spicy sausage was a great touch), cauliflower (do not miss this) the mini pie was absolutely amazing. great place to go for dinner and drinks, not as sit down as publican or other places, more like a lounge

Outstanding service which proves that the Betty is fake hipster in the most amazing kind of way. The hostess was somehow emphatically apologetic that we had to wait for a table of 5 (the place was packed). Nobody had a bad drink and the roasted cauliflower was on point. One group member was pleasantly perplexed by ordering a drink in which he did his own mixology. Even this was somehow not annoyingly ironic even though it was possibly intended as such.

Small but interesting wine selection; Incredible cocktails, food, service and atmosphere. . Dined here on a Friday night with a group of 5 so we tried nearly every dish which are designed for sharing. Everything through dessert was delish. Squid salad and the lamb were table favorites along with the flat bread but frankly we swooned over every dish. The wines by the glass are limited but very interesting and the cocktails, creative mid-century throw backs. Our bartender Tim was spot on with his recommendations. This place has a very comfortable, laid back vibe. A perfect fit for the neighborhood. What made our experience over the top was the attention we recieved from Karen. Cannot recommend this place enough.

Cute and friendly place with decent cocktails - we expected this place to be a lot fancier inside than it is. It's very down to earth with a nice atmosphere and good drinks and appetizers.

dissapointed. thought this would be a different bricks and mortar than the same cookie cutter molded place. it's basically the old fulton lounge only that place felt more real. the drinks looked promising and i loved the names, but alas, i left dissapointed. i've had better cocktails at themed restaurants. why do these mixology places make the cocktails so harsh? i think this place would have worked better in River North. it's a shame.

I've been excited to check this place out since I live in the neighborhood. The interior decor is absolutely stunning! Would be good to relax with friends but unfortunately it is way too loud to hear each other. The cocktails were SO disappointing. One completely lacked depth, and tasted like watered down bourbon. The other drink I tried was at least adventurous, but the flavors didn't pair well together and I couldn't finish it. I know it's still the new bar in town, so I will give it another try maybe in a few months when the kinks are ironed out.

Great service, atmosphere and drinks. Tried La Grande Dame, Life During Wartime and Coffee and Cigarettes cocktails, liked them all. And to top it off, this place is next door to the Publican.

This is my new favorite bar in chicago, and a great addition to the neighborhood. Cocktails are spot on, and the food is delicious. Get the pierogies and the pasta. Amazing! Though I haven't tried anything there that isn't delicious--other than the croquettes--lack of flavor and done measure up to the other items on the menu. The coffee & cigarettes is my favorite cocktail, but all have great depth and execution. Space is really cool, music is fantastic, and the staff is great.

A couple co-workers and I decided to check this place out after work, and it did not disappoint. The ambience and decor were cute. The cocktails we ordered were all fantastic, and the shared plates we ordered were delicious. The only thing we did not enjoy was the small wine pours so I'd recommend ordering one of their cocktails or beers instead of the wines. Our favorite dishes were the fried cauliflower and reignette - highly recommend them! The hostess was also super delightful and proactive - when she saw that one of co-workers was a little cold, she moved us to a seat that was in a warmer part of the dining area.

The atmosphere was fun. Came with some girlfriends after work and sat in a spacious booth. The drink menu had so much to explore-but I'm a wino through and through. If you are into cocktails though, this is your place. The flatbread was delicious- we ordered it twice. The cauliflower was also pretty great. Disappointed in the pierogi dish. Too bland. I would like to come back and order the other dishes and be adventurous and try a cocktail. Overall, good spot to try if you haven't been.

As a retired Water Chemist for the City of Chicago I can categorically state iced water has a better flavor than the tepid eater served on 6/13/2015. The chairs were uncomfortable.. in that they cut off leg circulation. The food was over smoked, over spiced, and over salted. The coffee was exceptional.

Came here to celebrate a friend's birthday and we all enjoyed it! We ordered (all for sharing) the fried cauliflower, reginette, lamb, flatbread, and skate wings. The cauliflower was quite interesting and one of the favorites of the group. Very unique and definitely have never had before. The flatbread was great and exceeded expectations given that other places that serve the same seem to disappoint with the lack of ingredients in terms of quantity and bland taste. The lamb was juicy and cooked well, so stood up to expectations, though nothing spectacular. The skate wing was quite good (very smooth texture), although I didn't get to have that much of it considering there were five of us sharing. My first bite of the reginette didn't impress at all, but the more that I had - the more I liked! The texture wasn't as soft as other pasta which is likely why I didn't initially take a liking to the dish, but that actually added to its eventual allure and the flavor of it made for a great combination! We opted to order two desserts to share, with our waitress raving about the pistachio cupcake and suggesting the chocolate and caramel mini pie. Ironically, we didn't like the cupcake that much (a bit dry and texture seemed more like a muffin than a proper cupcake) and preferred the mini pie which was fantastic!

Warm and inviting from the moment we walked in. The hostess was wonderful and the waitstaff were great. The squid dish and the potato pierogis were excellent. The flatbread was average. The cocktails were great as well. River west prices but worth it for the cocktail list.

Great atmosphere and awesome drinks. Minus 1 star because the waitress recommended the coffee&cigarettes as the best drink and so we ordered it and it was not good at all extremely smoky and should not have been recommended without explaining more about the intense flavors.

The drinks were amazing. They were so good that they made up for some shortcomings of the bar. They had deep complex flavors where most cocktails you get around town are just oppressively sweet attempting to cover up cheap liquor. They really put love and care into them and it shows. That said, I just don't get the bar. It really seems like just another one of those West Loop abandoned factories repurposed with a bar, $14 cocktails and some seating. The music was basically like white noise that served no purpose, was loud enough to make conversation hard but too soft to actually hear. Maybe I just don't get it. I would however go there again for the drinks

The atmosphere in this place is so cool. Love the small, intimate, and comfy seating areas. The drink menu was different and I wish I was able to try more. The people who work there are super nice. Friends and I were outside of the restaurant right next door having a smoke after dinner. The owner or manager of Betty was also out front. He suggested we come in for a night cap. Nice guy! I'm glad he convinced us to come in. The facade is very unassuming and we had no idea there was even a bar there! Well done!

This menu is NOT messing around. Chef Dow knows her stuff! Definitely try the pierogi, squid salad, lamb and pasta-- you will not be disappointed! Gorgeous space and a great range of spirits, wine and beer. Cocktails are on point as well. Get in here for a meal and stay for more cocktails ASAP!

Was so excited to try this new place out, always looking for a cool bar by our house. We went on opening week, but the door guy informed us it was a 45 min. We tried again on Saturday around 5:30 and got right in. Loved the decor and the ambiance of the place. The waitress was super friendly and suggested a few drinks off the menu. I got the La Grande Dame and it was delicious. They also have Zombie Dust available! We tried both of the Pierogi - sauerkraut and kielbasa and the potato mushroom. They came out perfectly presented and were delicious. One thing to note is that the dough they used was super hard and thick, nothing like real Polish pierogis but still amazing. I knocked off one star because of the hovering busboys, I felt like my water was refilled every time I took a sip and they were just watching my plate to take it away. Got super annoyed pretty fast! Give me some room to enjoy the food and stop hovering... Other wise a cool place to come get a drink!

Great space, awesome atmosphere and drinks. What isn't awesome is the uber rude hostess. I went with three friends last Saturday to be seated by the bar. Our host seated us and then a different hostess rudely told us to sit elsewhere. The hosts face was priceless. I wanted to leave at that time because of her rude attitude. Go to Soho or dozens of other places in the area with better service.

We stopped in for drinks pre-dinner and could not have made a better choice. We were enthusiastically greeted by Kira (actually, I was first one of a party of four, and she sat me immediately, didn't make me wait like other places often do). Tiffany was our fabulous server (she made a great drink reco - Maximilian) and was extremely knowledgeable, efficient and just plain nice. Upon leaving, we told Kira where we were dining and she gave rave reviews of our choice - Sirena Clandestine. Which, for the record was also amazing. She encouraged us to stop by afterwards for a nightcap. We did. She greeted us at the door and led us- BY HAND - to a wonderful little table tucked in the "library". VIP treatment all the way! Did I mention the music rocks?

Went to the Betty last night for the first time. Cocktails were pretty good, nice intimate ambience. My only complaint was the sub par service. We were seated in an area that had a draft directly from the entrance every time the door opened. It was a cold night! We politely asked our waitress to move us to another table so we could actually enjoy our drinks. She said she'd look into it and then never showed up! 30 mins later she walked by and we just asked for our check and left, even though we were really considering another round. I'd expect better service, especially from a new place. We'd even inquired about hosting a private event for 30 people at The Betty, but we reconsidered.

I went to the bar for the first time last Saturday and bc of the hostess it will be my last. When we arrived we put our name in for a table and we're told it would be 30 mins or so. We headed to the bar to wait. The bartender was fantastic and so were the drinks. After more than 30 mins my boyfriend went to check on the table. The hostess told him she needed to seat all of the large parties and then she could worry about the smaller ones. My boyfriend looked around and he was literally the only person standing in front of her. He asked for a timeline, she seemed very annoyed and told him he would just have to wait. He headed back to the bar. About 10 minutes later someone grabbed us and put us at a table. When the waitress approached we ordered more drinks and food immediately. The waitress was attentive and the food was delicious. We only ordered three appetizers and 2 drinks so we were done pretty quickly, maybe 45 mins. We were waiting for our waitress to come back over so we could get the check when the hostess approached. She asked us how much longer we thought we would be at the table. We said we were finished and we wanted the check. She tried to explain that she needed the table for another party and asked if we would move. Again, we asked for the check. She asked us why we didn't want to stay and drink, again we asked for the check. She simply stood there and stared at us, we asked for the check again. She said you don't seem very happy about this, we said that we weren't and again asked for the check. I couldn't believe how rude she was. I sincerely hope the managers and owners are reading these reviews and taking action. There are other reviews on here about how rude the hostess is.

Awesome new bar that has a cool vibe, delicious small plate food and exceptional cocktails. There is plenty of space for a group but also feels intimate for a date night. Highly recommend the squid :).

this is a great place with good food and ambiance. it's a very cozy restaurant that is perfect for intimate conversation. I only hope the wannabes from river north don't make their way here. they will kill the place with their maxed out credit cards and lack of sophistication. having an establishment with people who don't try too hard at being someone they're not is a great place to be.

We visited The Betty for a light dinner and drinks last night and were so impressed with the cocktails, the food, and especially the staff. After telling the hostess that we would have more friends joining us later in the evening, we were initially seated at the bar and told that she would let us know if a good table opened up. She actually checked in with us throughout the evening and completely followed through on her promise, seating us at a great spot, despite how busy the place was. The ambiance was cozy and welcoming, and even though it was loud, it wasn't like I have no idea what you're saying loud. A must visit.

We came in as a party of six to celebrate my birthday and we all agree it was an awesome experience! Not to mention, we were all taken aback by how beautiful the decor inside was and how great the service was from start to finish! The fact that it's a cocktail bar that doubles as a restaurant is, in my opinion, awesome. It's like getting the best of both worlds since both the drink and food menus are sophisticated and interesting! As far as drinks go, the Maximillion was my favorite as well as their take on the Gin & Tonic - I won't give away the surprise of it but let's just say it's interactive and we all were huge fans. When it comes to the food, we tried a large percentage of the menu and there was literally not one thing we didn't like - the chef definitely knows what she's doing! I would recommend the Croquettes, the Squid Salad, the Shrimp and Clams, and the Tikka Masala if someone was forcing me to pick my favorites, but like I said, everything we tried was fantastic. I HIGHLY recommend The Betty to anyone looking for a place to have dinner and drinks in a classy, yet super comfortable atmosphere.

I'm just here to rave about service. I asked about the pita from the baba ghanoush, she asked if I had any allergies, I said I'm vegan, she said she didn't think it was vegan but she'll double check. Now this is a typical response. What wasn't a typical response was what happens next. She comes out with my incredibly strong, incredibly delicious Maximillon cocktail, tequila and wine with a hint of bitters, and says that the pita isn't vegan but the pizza dough is. Less than 10 minutes later I was brought the most delicious bowl of warm pizza crust, cut into vegan friendly, pita resembling strips. That is the definition of above and beyond.

Great drinks especially gin drinks. Hot vibe. Cool music. Nice small plates....sometimes not so small. Sandy loves the flatbread....serves at least 2. Great attentive service. Cooler than cool. Have fun here.

I absolutely love this place! The decor consists of a lot of candles and low lit lights. It's rustic and classy. The cocktails are on point visually as well as taste. The pineapple upside cake dessert is delish! I could definitely see this being my new drink spot.

Our server literally quit her job on the spot over another table. Awkward. Decor feels forced, and overengineered. $25 for two well-liquor drinks is pretty dumb. But hey it's the West Loop, people love this spot.

Small crowd yet poor service. Where or where did my waiter go? Never checked on me, nor did he come back for food order. Food menu interesting.

Great selection of drinks. Ambiance is dark and mysterious. Almost like the library in the movie Beauty and the Beast. Good spot to gather with few friends.

fantastic new spot on fulton. very "mad men" like with the dark wood, peacock, and old shaving chair by the bathrooms. although we only had drinks, i can vouch for others around us saying how yummy the dishes were. this is a go-to for dates, work, singles, whatever you are-you are welcomed. oh, by the way, zombie dust on tap. kaboom! ps-get the cobbler cocktail. you're welcome.

Can only speak for the drinks, but very quality cocktails and nice atmosphere. Nice outdoor area in front and plenty of space inside. The create your own gin and tonic was very high quality and unique. The menu of cocktails had nice variety as well.

Ok I don't give five stars often but this place definitely deserves it! The food was excellent, drinks superb, and service impeccable!

Even this was somehow not annoyingly ironic even though it was possibly intended as such.

great place in fulton market. pretty close to the new garish neon sign in the area. surprisingly busy earlier in the evening - but prob since it's the only loungey place in fulton market. located in the old lumen space, but no similarities there dark wood, eclectic but comfortable inside. be prepared for a wait if you don't come early. bartenders were friendly and great, very knowledgeable about the menu. all the food we tried was impeccable - the flatbread (spicy sausage was a great touch), cauliflower (do not miss this) the mini pie was absolutely amazing. great place to go for dinner and drinks, not as sit down as publican or other places, more like a lounge

Cannot recommend this place enough.

dissapointed. thought this would be a different bricks and mortar than the same cookie cutter molded place. it's basically the old fulton lounge only that place felt more real. the drinks looked promising and i loved the names, but alas, i left dissapointed. i've had better cocktails at themed restaurants. why do these mixology places make the cocktails so harsh? i think this place would have worked better in River North. it's a shame.

Well done!

There are other reviews on here about how rude the hostess is.

this is a great place with good food and ambiance. it's a very cozy restaurant that is perfect for intimate conversation.
