We live pretty close to Thai Thai, so it is out go to for local. The staff is very friendly and the food is pretty good. There aren't a whole lot of vegetarian options, but they will cook without meat if you ask. Eating healthy here can be somewhat of a challenge and brown rice doesn't appear to be an option. The iced tea and coffee are delicious. They do deliver Thursday-Sunday 5-8:30, so it can be tricky to get delivered.

My favorite in Chicago. Very low-key, friendly atmosphere. The owners/cooks are pretty open to special orders, and the food is reasonably priced. Closed Mondays!

A friend who is a 20+ year faithful customer recommended Thai Thai to us and we will never look back. The owners are very nice and remember our order every time! We always get a table right away and the prices are perfect for the quality and quantity of food you get. BYOB, definitely try out the crab rangoons (beloved by all we've taken there) and order up some cashew chicken. It's amazing and you won't regret it!

Great food, great service just have to be specific on the level of spice

Superb. I've had Thai at many restaurants in Chicago and this is as good as it gets. The Panang Curry is amazing.

I am writing this review as I sit here enjoying the endorphin rush from a bowl of Curry Noodle Soup. My wife and I have been enjoying this place, only with our closest friends, for the better part of 14 years. We have tried to stray, many times, but are disappointed by any other Thai experience. Choi and family simply cannot be beat. We continue to drive here, over 10 miles out of our way, when we want our Thai Thai fix. Recommendations include Thai Thai Shrimp (and any appetizer), Curry Noodle Soup, Red and Green Curry Dishes, Lard Nar, All Panangs, and basically everything. In short we are addicts. If they ever retire, I'm paying Choi for cooking lessons. If you haven't been, you must try. Remember, it's BYOB, great place for a group of friends. Don't be in a hurry though, family run, and better off for it.

Great little hole in the wall, I've been coming here for years. The pad thai and pad si ew are simply DELICIOUS. If you like things hot, make sure you request extra spicy! The crab rangoon is lacking though. I always get takeout because the shop is kinda drab, but the staff is really nice. I always order over $30 so I get free almond cookies!

Every once in a while, I feel the persistent and unyielding urge to chemically and physically burn my soft palate and esophagus. When this urge strikes, I head straight to Thai Thai. I was introduced to this joint almost a year ago and have been there five or six times since my first encounter. I will no doubt be back again as soon as the need for heat strikes. Upon entering you will be hit by a dirty dish rag odor if there are no other patrons in attendance. Ignore this particular smell, for it will soon be overwhelmed by galanga, ginger, garlic, and fish sauce. Start with the lemongrass marinated chicken sticks (not the satay) and their WONDERFUL crab rangoon. Delicate half moons fried extra crisp with a lovely coating of panko bread crumbs. I have never had rangoons like this before and they are simply outrageously delicious. While I and my boyfriend have dared to try a few other dishes, I am always brought back to the Kang Pa. A wonderful assortment of my favorite Asian veggies steamed to crisp perfection in the most flavorful, steaming hot, curry soup without a drop of coconut milk in sight. Big chunks of ground chicken bounce like buoys in the broth laced with hot Thai chilies and small droplets of spicy red oil. I order mine as spicy as they can go and savor every minute of coughing, nose running, eye tearing bliss. It is one of those dishes I just want to enjoy forever and pass out dead in. Outstanding! I have gone with friends on weeknights and have been surrounded by day traders for a solo lunch. BYOB is a perk and the gentleman who takes orders and seems in charge is very friendly and obviously knows his regular customers well. The bathroom is a bit odd. I'll use the word homey, meaning a bit too comfortable and borderline gross. But one steaming slurp of that fantastic curry soup makes up for all the oddities of Thai Thai. Clean your sinuses, venture off the beaten over trail of commercial restaurants, and try Thai Thai. Have an open mind and lots of tissues, and you will not be disappointed.

OK... I don't know if you allowed to rate a place where you have never actually tried the food... but my frustration with trying to try this place has led me to a rating of 1 star. Three times (THREE) my friend and I have made a date to try out this Thai place. Three times there was a note on the door in the middle of the afternoon on a weekday stating they were on vacation for about 2 weeks. These visits were all spread out over about a 10 month span of time. WTF? OK... I get it. Family run. I guess I can understand how once a year or so you would close up shop for a week or two and take a vacay. But three times a year they treat themselves to a 2 week vacation? I wish my life was that luxurious! If I ever try it, I will rate their food I guess, but it will be a long time before I go out of my way just to be greeted by another "Closed from __ to __ " sign. There are far too many Thai restaurants with good food (that actually stay open) to waste any more time on this one. Try Opart on Western! it's yummy yummy stuff! UPDATE: Ok... so I ate at thai thai (yes. it WAS open), and the food was pretty good. I got the chicken panang and it had a good bite to it. My friend also enjoyed her sweet and sour dish. The man that waited on us was very nice and patient as we closed down the place. There are some other great thai places a little nearer to me, but if i lived close by, I would stop in here again.

Echoing some of David S's comments, this place is great for what it is. Family run, no presentation, & small no frills interior. However, the portions are large and many things on the menu are quite good. I live in the area and frequent this place often when I'm looking for good quality Thai takeout (no delivery) that's fairly cheap. Favorites include spicy panang curry, pud thai, and ginger chicken.

I have been going to this place for years. I stopped by yesterday and knew right away its being run by new ownership. The food is okay but not nearly as spicy as before. When ordering the owner used to ask if I wanted that medium spicy or hot spicy. I was not even given that option. I hope they correct this. The worst thing they could have done was cut the portions in half. Not by a third or forth but in half. This is the worst mistake they could have made. I was a turnkey customer and they lost me on my first time in. The take out containers are about the size of a leftover container. I used to go to this place because its on the way home from work. I guess I have to look for a Thai place closer to home. It seems like they still have the same chef and I would like to give them my business. I guess they could possibly build a new customer base but not in that neighborhood. Good luck to them.

Me and my significant other LOVE this place. We've gone to a few Thai places close to home, but these was our first and remains our favorite. They have great thai tea and their fried rice has a semi-sweet flavor. Great food, great staff, great environment!!

Out of all the Thai places in the city, this is by far my favorite. My family has been ordering here since I was a child, and even once I move out of the neighborhood, I will continue to drive here to get my favorite Thai food. First and foremost, I have to mention that Thai Thai is not a fancy, date-night kind of restaurant, so if that's what you're looking for you'll have to go somewhere else. Instead Thai Thai is a small bare-bones place run by a happy older couple. The same woman has taken my order and the same man has greeted me at the door since the first time I ordered from there. The food is basic, and yes, as a previous reviewer writes, it comes in a large styrofoam cup. As I mentioned, this is a no-frills restaurant. The food is consistently delicious, hot, and fresh. If you don't want to eat in a room with wood paneling and cheap chairs, then pick it up and bring it home; that's what most of their customers seem to do. The meals and great, friendly service you will get here more than make up for a lack of decor. Some recent bonuses: Thai Thai used to be cash only, but they recently started accepting credit cards. If you want to stick to cash, you won't spend more than $10 a person, even if you get appetizers. I highly recommend this to anyone looking for the best Thai take-out on the Northside.

  • KL S.

This is definitely a hidden gem! Don't come here for ambiance, as the decor is virtually nonexistent. But the food is EXCELLENT, and the service is some of the friendliest I have ever experienced. I love all of their appetizers, and one of my favorite dishes is the pad kaprow which another reviewer mentioned. I've tried it at several other Thai restaurants, but their version is the best. I also love their tom yum soup and the tom kha---really really flavorful. They don't skimp on portion size, and you can spend $20 and have enough food for days!!

Thai food here is good, but no the best. I've sampled many dishes on their menu and all have been okay. Service is good, and prices are very reasonable. Great for takeout when your just too lazy or tired to cook.

Thai Thai is mid-way between where I work and where I live, so I frequent the place, but usually for carry-out unless I'm with a group from work. The husband/wife owner duo are very nice folks. Love love love the panang: really rich. The pud kaprow is good too. I agree that the crab rangoon isn't very tasty but the satays are, and the thai iced coffee rocks too. Pretty quick, and they finally take credit cards. Closed Mondays.

Thai Thai is a really great place to get some quick and good thai food. It has that homie feel. It's one of those places you know will always have great food either you're around the neighborhood or if you need to grab something to bring before you're going to a party. It won't overwhelm you with it's looks, but the food is great for the price. I've tried the pad thai and the panang and they haven't disappointed me. The sauces don't overwhelm you too much. Their spring rolls are also something you should try. I always ask her to hook me up with their peanut sauce and they never decline me. It's not the best thai place in Chicago, but for the price , the service, and some good food, it's worth trying.

I live right down the street and probably order once a week. So...it's not the best but you get a TON of food and if you're veggie like me you'll appreciate the amount of tofu you get when you order it in an entree. The iced coffee is kinda weird, but you get into it after a bit and you get a gallon for like, $2.

  • K S.

I used to live and work down the street from this place. It took us almost a year to try it because we always went to Little Thai Home. We were sorry we didn't go to Thai Thai sooner. Now that we live in the 'burbs, whenever we go back to the neighborhood we always stop by. The owners still remember us and comment on how much our kids have grown. I usually get the red curry chicken, but I've sampled most of the menu and never had anything bad.

This was my first time eating their food and it definitely will not be the last. I had the Mussamun Curry, Pad See Ewe, and for dessert I had the Sweet Sticky Rice with Banana. It was delicious. However, that is only part of the reason I decided to write this review. I ordered this meal through GrubHub and when ordering you can place "special instructions" with your order. I entered special instructions asking them to "make with love." I was just having some fun. But when I got my order I was given a little surprise. There were hearts drawn on the container surrounding the words "made with love" and a small boat hat made from receipt paper with "love" and ":)" faces covering it. It was a very small gesture and completely unexpected but it felt great. Made me smile :) Even their delivery man was very kind with a huge smile on his face. I'd recommend trying them out.

My wife and mother in law who just landed Chicago were craving Thai food and all our usual was closed (Monday), so quickly yelped to find this place. It is a small place with not so easy to find a parking space on street. When we walked in they were busy preparing take out orders. Restaurant was empty but amount of delivery/take out gave me a confidence to try out the place. We ordered dinner portion chicken pad Thai, lunch special vege pad Thai and lunch special basil beef. Order came out quick and we were happy that they got the spicy right away. Often that is our struggle to find a good Thai place who can actually make it spicy enough for us and after a brief chat with the owner they learned to gauge who really wants spicy food and make it according that. I wish it is a bit closer to us but still not too far at all and we will definitely visit again.

Wow! This is the best thai I've had yet! Their pad Thai is better than most places, and their vegetable spring rolls are delicious, without getting oily like many places. Definitely try this place out

I live across the street and I tried many times to fall in LOVE with them but I can't. It is not that I don't LIKE that place.... The food is all right. I really LIKE the Tom Yum soup. One of the best I ever had. The customer service is a little bit slow-ish.... :-( accept the one person, very nice young man, who's always smiling, there is no one who knows what to do....

Their delivery range many be huge...but it takes forever. Sure, they quoted me over an hour when I submitted my Grubhub order around 7 on a Sunday night- but seriously? It never takes that long. Except here. Extra sad because I expected typical Asian takeout for the price point- my beef & broccoli was like an actual food pyramid size portion. For the price I normally get more than a pound of food. It's not that I need that- but I expect them to be competitive with other similar area restaurants. Nope. Soup though was a pretty normal size. There's always that. It was still hot when I got it, too.

I usually enjoy this place. After tonight I'm disappointed Although the food arrived quickly through online delivery, it was not good quality. I ordered the Jungle Curry - it is soup. I was shocked when it arrived in the soup container. I thought there was an error because it was a clear liquid broth. I'm not sure why this is listed as a curry. In addition, I ordered cruncy wide noodles instead of rice to go with it and the noodle was completely fried. There was no soaking up any sauce with this, but I guess it didn't matter since I was putting it in a soup. Then my sig-o ordered the deep fried appetizers combo and the chive dumpling. The chive dumpling was fine. From the appetizers, the biggest let down was the crab rangoon. There was a pea sized amount of filling in one of the two rangoons. Was hoping for better quality. I would rather they spent more time on the food than rush it to us in this state.

Thai Thai..what has become of you? Ive been coming here for 20 years. Please listen to your customers. Food portions too small. Food is not tasty, your chef needs to go back to school. Even I can cook better following recipe on internet. Pad thai - Good - portion small, lacks flavor Mongolian Beef - no flavor, taste like crap american watered down food Please, we would like to keep coming, but you have to make some changes

Ordered in once on their website, never been to the restaurant. I ordered the Spicy Basil with shrimp (extra 2.00) and extra shrimp (extra 2.00). Total of 6 pieces laid on top what looked like two cups of vegetables in a gravy that smelled delicious. The 1 star is for 4 reasons. 1) It took 90 minutes from when I ordered to get to my cousins apartment down the street. 2) As soon as I took the top off there was a black hair just sitting there. 3) The drinks we ordered weren't in our bag, I then called and they told me they were out of them. A 5 star business would have called the customer and informed them they were out of an item they ordered upon receiving their order. 4) In the "comments" part on their website I wrote "make as hot as possible!!!" My cousin ordered the Grilled Eggplant and her sauce was just as mild as mine. So even if I didn't ask for them to make it as hot as possible it still should have been spicy, it being called Spicy Basil and all. Spicy Basil is a very misleading name.

First things first... I have never tried Thai food so today was the first. I decided to go to Thai Thai because I always drive pass but never stop in. Today was the day my friends and I stopped in to carry out. The restaurant is quite small but the food we ordered was pretty delicious. I ordered Chicken Teriyaki (i tried to play it safe) and my friend ordered bbq pork fried rice. Thai Thai is a bit pricey but upon ordering the chicken teriyaki i received rice, miso soup and a salad for $10. Overall a little pricey for small portions but good food, clean restaurant, and friendly people.

Food is not authentic. Pad prik is good, but it's not real thai pad prik. Papaya salad is bland and isn't authentic either. Massaman curry is just OK. Very mediocre.

My husband and I have been eating at Thai Thai for years. As much as we miss the old owners, we really really like the new owners. It is a family run business and neither of us have been disappointed in the quality and taste of the dishes, even with the extended menu. I believe the daughters are the wait staff and have always been friendly and attentive. I can't say anything about the delivery because we always dine in. One thing we can do without are distractions of the TV's. The best part for us is that it's still BYOB.

My friendly neighborhood Thai go-to. Ordering food is quick and easy, we always pick up from the restaurant and is completed within the time promised. The food is what you would expect and they rarely disappoint.

What is not to like? Do yourself a favor and stop in, or order take out because their delivery range is crazy huge. You can't go wrong with anything you order here, but my personal faves are the pad bamee with bbq pork and the pineapple curry with chicken. The pad bamee is filled with a large variety of excellent quality veggies. Not to mention - mango over sticky rice. SO. GOOD. They deliver super fast. Everyone there is pleasant and you can tell they enjoy what they do. My new go to!

Majority of my experience is for dinners delivered to my office. Their website is a bit confusing at first (recently updated too) but is far easier than calling in an order as staff's command of English is not stellar. Delivery is always on time and orders are always correct. As I usually place orders for 4-5 people, this is a plus. Quality and portions are both good, although they are a bit stingy with their vegetable ingredients. Tip: Use Thai Thai's website to order for pickup or delivery and complimentary item will be included with $20 minimum order.

If you're looking for a local neighborhood Thai fix, then you're not going to be disappointed! Still a little far for me considering rush hour, I needed to scope out a new Asian food place. I also didn't feel like paying to have my food delivered. My Chinese restaurant fell under new management, and the last time I ordered food, it was terrible! I always rate Thai places based off their Panang Curry Chicken, and their Pad See Ewe. I ordered both. The dishes tasted the way you would expect them to taste. My two complaints would be that the Panang was a little soupy. I am used to a thicker sauce. The Pad See Ewe did not have enough sauce or marinade that I am used to having in this dish. The staff is super friendly, and I could see the kid running the register was a student and musician. I wonder if he plays his guitar inside the restaurant on slower summer afternoons. Since it was rush hour, my food was ready to go as soon as I got to the restaurant. It was still hot and fresh by the time I got home. They are very efficient with how they pack up your order. The portions of food you receive are generous and will last you for at least 3 meals if you order the same items I did. Overall a great local spot! Although they are only blocks away, I might consider having my food delivered. If you decide to dine here, know that Thai Thai is in a small space, and will only seat about 10 people. It took me 20 minutes to get there. Thank goodness the trip back north up Elston was not as congested! Thanks for the food! Very tasty!

This is based purely off delivery. We had setup an order through grubhub. My girlfriend was feeling rather sick and wanted Tom Yum soup, but mainly the broth. So I had put down the protein since it was required, but I noted to not actually add any protein despite me picking it. After sending the order, they called just to double check that we wanted to broth, which I thought was great because it shows they're really looking at the details of their order and that they wanted to give us what we asked. We had also wrote on the note to make it really spicy. Our food arrives, my food was good, I may order something else next time (and I cannot recall for the life of me what I ordered), but her Tom Yum soup broth was AMAZING AND SPICY. Legit spicy, like nose runny spicy with a ton of flavor. She was blown away as this was her constant go to at most Thai places and it was just a giant cup of beautiful, red broth. I don't know how spicy their Tom Yum soup usually is, if it usually isn't, then they're damn good at giving what's asked. I was jealous that I didn't do the same thing.

Crab Rangoon very cream cheesy but good. Crispy not greasy. Vietnamese spring rolls good. Red curry chicken ordered very very spicy and came pretty spicy whic is always a challenge (understand they may be reluctant to make so spicy customer cannot eat) I added extra hot sauce. Bit of a mix up ordering a fried rice, but reordered and was just going to take the wrong wrong home, they very kindly first offered half price and then no charge. Very much appreciated. Food was good. They do have a tv and LPGA was on, not too loud and turned out to be a pleasant distraction on a quiet post vacation outing for that missed spicy food. Byob which is always a plus, but not a liquor store too nearby so remember to bring along. Service fine, casual. Decor and ambiance is storefront but very clean and friendly.

Great and consistent Thai food. We started ordering from here because they have Khao Soy which we don't find on many Thai menus. Sooo good. I also have gotten the duck fried rice a couple times--just perfect. Tons of duck, veggies, and lightly fried rice. Highly recommend ordering from here!!

I Iove this place so much. I order delivery from there probably once a week and it is always very fast and delicious. It is less than a half mile from my place so maybe that makes a difference. I pretty much get the same thing every time - either red curry with beef or pad woosen with shrimp. Absolutely delicious every time. They never disappoint!

Based on reviews I decided to come here with my friend. The crab Rangoon has a taste like it's been in the freezer way too long, and I also got the chicken sataay which was okay. My friend got the mixed vegetables with shrimp which was okay as well. I will not be back. I swear by the Thai restaurant on devon and central called the Elephant, but they are closed today.

I have no idea what went wrong.... I used to love this place and both dine in and order for take out quite a lot as they are right up the street from me. I'm thinking they either sold it to new management or maybe passed it on to their kids, because things have changed and not for the better. I have had a terrible cold the last few days and thought that a large order of their usually delicious Tom Yum soup would do the trick to banish the cold for good. I used to get this all the time there and it was textbook great Thai soup, loaded with kaffir lime leaves, straw mushrooms, galangal, ginger, and a fiery slick of hot chili oil across the top that would wonderfully scorch me and clear out my sinuses like an atomic neti pot, leaving me sweating and in utter bliss. That wonderful soup has been replaced with a horrid charlatan. What I received had broccoli, carrots, some pallid tomatoes, kale!?, canned sliced button mushrooms, cucumbers or zucchini, and couldn't burn a gnat. I mean, there was no chili oil, and maybe the cook had tossed in a quarter teaspoon of sambal oelek, but it was lost in the mass of the soup, even my spice averse roommate tried it and confirmed it was not hot at all. None of the previously great Thai ingredients were present any longer and here I am still stuck with a stuffed up sinus and no relief. For shame.

what is wrong with thai thai! been eating there for 15 years. everyone who has been eating there for years agrees with me that the portions are way to small. stop being so cheap to make money i have never seen an asian place in my life be so cheap with food asian places almost always give you plenty of food thai thai, you need to start pouring more food. you brought up the prices and cut the portion size by half. you customers have left you because you are not living up to the original owners.

Had the pad Thai and it was great, fried rice was nice. My order was ready a little before my appointed time, and they called to say it was ready. Couldn't ask for better service.

Panang was soupy I asked them to switch out the rice for pan fried rice noodles (extra extra crispy) they charged me an extra dollar for that - I didn't receive the noodles - so I was robbed an extra dollar. We asked for delivery and she told me that it would be here within 50 minutes but it was 25 mins late - we order orange crispy chicken which was good. I called and talked to someone and she had attitude and handed the phone to the owner (I believe) but I couldn't understand him but I believe he was trying. Bad first experience and I would never order the panang again but I would give them another try. Sucks that my dish was not at all what I was craving.

Thai Thai went from a 10 to zero since the new owners took over. I won't belabor the point the food is simply awful. I had been a regular there for over ten years now I don't even like driving past the place.

I am really big on Thai food and have tried quite a few Thai restaurants in Chicago. I found these guys on grub hub and decided to give them a try. Placed the order at 9pm and it was delivered in 30 mins. I ordered Pad Thai with wide rice Noodles and Panang curry with white rice. I specifically asked them to make it extra spicy and I have to say both dishes were tasty. Though their white rice portion was considerably small and I have half of the curry sitting in my refrigerator with no white rice :(. I have had better Thai food at other places but I will be returning to this restaurant because this is the only Thai place that delivers in my area.

I just ordered from here and can't wait until I'm craving Asian food again. We ordered spring rolls, chicken satay, chicken terriyaki and Thai fried rice. Everything was really good and the chicken was great quality- not rubbery like most places. We ordered this from grub hub and it was here in about 30 minutes. I will definitely order from here again and try the other stuff on the menu.

So, so sad. Thai Thai got bought out. They changed all the recipes, too. The wonderfully fresh crispy egg rolls now have those disgusting wrappers that bubble and taste like papadums. Blech - we could get that anywhere. And the new panang recipe is not as rich, flavorful or spicy. Mind you, it is still edible, and truthfully on par with all the other so-so Thai places in town. It's just no longer a stand out.

Okay where do I start? The green tofu curry over brown rice was INSANE! So good, the tofu was perfectly cooked and perfectly spiced and so flavorful. The Thai iced coffee was really good. The only reason I didn't give this place 5 stars is that the spring rolls were horrible but the green curry knocked it out of the ballpark!

Look, I know people are going to look at a claim like "Best Thai Place" in Chicago and scratch their heads and say "F you pal". But hear me out. This town is waaaaaaaay oversaturated with Thai food. You can't throw a midget (little person) without hitting one of these places. Fully understanding that the competition is thick. Lets look at the competition. Most of these places are run by money hungry and skimpy owners trying to cash in on the Thai food fad/craze driven by the twenty-something women of Illinois. They have no flavor, small portions, and no real style. Thai Thai is run by very friendly and interesting people. They dont have the bells and whistles of many of their competitors but their food is just damn amazing. The flavors are full and fibrant and their portions are hearty and delicious. If you try this place and don't like it - I'd venture to say you hate America.

Great Thai food. I've tried. Few places in the neighborhood and I have to say this is my favorite!

Food did not taste good. First, I wasn't sure what it was until I noticed that the gravy and water were separating in the soup; probably was served left overs from the day before. Suffered diarrhea the day after. If you care for your health, this is not the pace to be at.

Ok so I stopped in the other day and got the scoop. The young man at the counter explained Thai Thai got "bought out" and when I asked for more information about the previous owner he pointed to a letter posted on the counter. (I snapped a photo and posted it here.) He also told me Toi was still cooking in the kitchen to which I was happy to hear. Well, I just ordered delivery tonight and regardless who is cooking the recipes are different and the food isn't the same old Thai Thai unfortunately.

I've taken my mom here for lunch and she loves it. We always order the panang and mussamun curry, and we've never been disappointed. However, the curry could be spicier, but we're Mexican and we like everything we eat spicy! The service is great, which is always a plus.

This is the Thai restaurant that ruined me for any other Thai restaurant...no other have measured up since then

Good good Thai food, but almost as important--they're really nice. They made a mistake and sent the wrong food with my delivery. I called back, and with no muss or fuss, they sent the correct order out in half an hour. I really appreciate their conscientiousness.

Confused by all the 'amazing' reviews. Not an awful restuarant, but as someone who as been to tons of thai places, I wasn't impressed at all. My boyfriend and I went after reading all the great reviews and left shrugging. It was mediocre at best. I think part of our opinion was the atmosphere. It felt like a cafe that had been set up in ten minutes. Several square tables in a square room with no music, no other people there, it felt kind of odd. If you're starving for thai, the food isn't awful awful, but it's not a thai place to sit and enjoy yourself.

I LOVE this place. This is the best Thai food I have ever had. I live in the south west burbs and I travel about 50 mintues (driving) to get to Thai Thai. You can call me crazy, but the food is delicious. I have tried other restaurants around my area, but nothing compares to Thai Thai. My sister introduced me a few years back and I haven't found anything better. I do recommed the Chicken Pad Thai (spicy) and the egg rolls. They even know my order when I walk in the door. I sit down at a table with friends and we don't even need menus. They know exactly what we want before ordering. It is a very small place, but everyone is so friendly and the food is amazing! I highly recommend eating here!

Just ordered for the first time. We're new to the neighborhood and were missing our Thai fix. The food is good and the golden wings are pretty crispy and tasty! I ordered the curry chicken fried rice and comes pretty close to being as good as from my favorite Thai place in my old neighborhood. Only sad part is they forgot to give us our free Pad Thai order:-(

Very good Thai food! Food has great flavor, the Shu-mai was delicious, however very small portion sizes through-out. Still feel hungry, and I dropped 18 bones. Definitely going to visit again though! Yumm!

Recently ordered my usual (Chicken Pad Thai, spicy, and crab rangoon) without knowing the owners (and recipes) had changed. I was beyond disappointed. The Pad Thai was bland and had a sour/bad taste that I had to doctor when I came home so that I could even eat it. It wasn't spicy at all either. The crab rangoon the old owners made was the best I had ever tasted and was unique in presentation. Now you get the same wanton wrapped crab rangoon you can get at any other Asian restaurant in the city. It was ok, but not what I was looking forward to. The old owner mentioned possibly moving into a location in Glenview, IL at the Milwaukee & Lake intersection. I am hoping they did because I really miss their food and will never return to this Elston location again.

WHAT HAPPENED? We came home with totally different dishes. Toy's amazing and rich panang was replaced with a watery soup light on veggies. No almond cookies! Anyone know what happened to Toy and his wife?

Zero ambiance, zero presentation, friendly service, & decent food. However, I used their bathroom & it made me wonder about the cleanliness of the place. My brother-in-law & his girlfriend are fans of the place & live nearby, but I don't know that I'd go back, especially with so many excellent Thai places in this city.

This place has been around for quite a while and I must say that I like it since I keep coming back. The food has been consistently good and its reasonably priced and come in fairly large portions, its also BYOB. Very quick and very warm, friendly service. Be warned, this a no frills sort of restaurant, the place is sparsely decorated and there is no real flare to the food presentation, but the flavor makes up for it . I've always been a fan of the rangoon, the fried tofu, the pad thai wth tofu, and the Panang! So if you want to get some great tasting warm food in a casual everyday sort of way, then go here. But if you're looking to impress someone while out on a date, this place might definitely hurt your chances.

I love this place. It is small and the owners are super friendly. I have had and recommend any of the following: - Pad Thai w/Chicken - Cashew Chicken - Thai Thai Shrimp (appetizer) - Panang w/Chicken They are all awesome.

I have been eating at Thai Thai for like 5 years now and counting. While the experience was better under Toi (the previous owner), the new owners have gotten over their awkward initial period and addressed some of the issues. Portion sizes have improved, the roasted duck curry is back to epic standards (ask for spicy, they won't ask you). The menu has changed, so some dishes are no longer as good others have improved. For example, the pad thai is better now but the red curry recipe has changed (for the worse). Overall though, they've added a ton of new dishes, including seafood. The spicy catfish is great. I wish it wasn't deep fried, but it has great taste and the portion size is awesome. I think that if people experiment with the new Thai Thai, they will find that many of the dishes remain the same and on balance its almost just as good as the old Thai Thai. There is no better Thai place in Chicago. My wife and I even went to Opart Thai and it was disappointing to say the least. We are grateful that Thai Thai's new owners fixed some of their initial issues and I hope that portion sizes remain near where the old owners had it. I will update this review if anything changes.

Thai Thai is always a sure bet for fast and delicious food! You can easily make three of four meals out off the quantity of the food they give you. The staff is always very friendly, and the price for their food is fair. On nights when we don't feel like cooking, we do Thai Thai. I really enjoy the quality, and I have not been disappointed with anything I've tried here yet- (and yes, I've tried a great deal.) I miss the old owners, but the new staff is really nice!

When we came in, we got showered in hugs. I strongly believe that we were welcomed properly. The servers were friendly and talkative. All of our food came in a timely manner and it was delicious and excellent. Not only was the food delicious, but it was very healthy, too! I will definetly come back to Thai Thai soon.

We happened in here while out on a bike ride with the kids. It's a small place and very casual- we didn't feel at all uncomfortable putting my son's scooter under the table. I have two or three favorite Thai places east of here, but Thai Thai is very good- flavorful, not heavy or greasy, and prepared fresh. The man I assumed to be the owner took our order and was very nice. There's not much in the way of Asian food in this area, and it's definitely worth a stop.

You really have to know your thai food. My friend owned a thai restaurant where I went all the time... i THOUGHT i loved thai food. This restaurant has a lot of sweet, sour, spicy dishes. We ordered a lot, but I don't think I liked any of them.

I'm not sure how I feel about Thai Thai. Would I go back? Maybe. I was in for lunch, and the server was good - very attentive and quick. The food just wasn't great. I had the Tofu Cashew, and I really didn't care for the way they prepared the tofu. I ended up leaving most of it. The vegetables did taste fresh, but the sauce just wasn't very tasty. All in all a bland meal. Who knows, maybe I ordered the wrong thing.

This used to be our go to Thai restaurant, but then a few new restaurants opened closer to us and Thai Thai changed owners. We had gotten carry out a few times with the new owners and decided to try it again. Today, everything we ordered was very tasty, although I was hoping for a more peanutty panang. Also, one of the dishes in our order was not correct, but it tasted good so we weren't really bothered. The service was quick and reasonably priced. We will definitely be returning.

Love this place have looked all over for a place that does pud kaprow or pud prik as well and haven't found one. When I worked up North we used to get this once a week. I live on the SW side of chicago and wish I could find a place that serves those dishes with the same flavor. I tried Chi Tung and Thai Spy and just not the same. Almost ready to take a road trip and get some it's been about 3 years since I have had it but having cravings for thai thai.

This is our fav thai joint. It is not far off the I-90/94. I go there and I'm always seeing my neighbors. So I'm not the only one who loves this place. We've been going here for years. Even our teens love it. Get the ginger chicken

Have been enjoying the food at this place for almost 20 years. Not until the new owners came in and changed all the recipes, sad to say that Today will be my last time going to this place. If I want to chew on rubber bands for noodles or chicken soup with no flavor or a place that its colder inside than out and no one else in the place yet the food takes a while and comes warm not hot. Sad Sad Sad I miss you Toy and Pat :(

I don't make any claim that this is the best thai food in Chicago. In fact, Thai Thai is sort of tucked away in an area consisting of not much of anything. At a glance, there is nothing to set Thai Thai apart. Upon entering though, it feels like home. Ok, not my home maybe since I consider home to be the hills of Kentucky in an area where I assure you there are no thai restaurants to be found. Still, there is something...comfortable, about this small restaurant. The owner and (presumably) his wife are so genuinely happy to see their customers that it comes as no surprise to see that many people are clearly repeat customers. The service is attentive and quick. The food, at least the limited items I have tried, has always been good and upgraded to the spice level I have requested. One very nice touch the last time I visited was the orange slices given at the end of a meal. Yes, it's just a cut up orange you might say, but it was a refreshing way to end things. I love the strip of thai restaurants on Western, and they will deliver to my house, but the service keeps me coming back to Thai Thai and I don't expect that to change.

Delicious! I always get their shrimp pad thai and crab ragoon. The food is so tasty and the presentation is very nice. Great place for lunch or dinner. The prices are also very reasonable. I definitely recommend this place.

I had high hopes for this restaurant when I looked over the menu, but ended up disappointed in the end. Due to icy weather we decided to order in, and came across Thai Thai on grubhub. Both my girlfriend and I decided to order the chicken teriyaki, which was listed as coming with rice, miso, soup and salad. We also decided to order a side of fried tofu. Including tip and delivery fee, this cost around $36 dollars. When our food was delivered, we started with the tofu, which came with its own dipping sauce (some sort of sweet and sour sauce the restaurant listed as "special sauce"). It was pretty decent, and the one order of tofu was enough for two people. When we opened the container holding our main course, however, we were a little surprised. There was no miso soup included, and instead of rice, there were about 10 french fries in one of the compartments. I could have let the soup slide, but I was really looking forward to the rice, so I called the restaurant to inquire why it wasn't included. They responded that the dish isn't served with rice...which surprised me, as (like I wrote before), it is listed on the menu as including rice (on grubhub, at least). I was starting to worry that I paid a little bit too much for a meal that wouldn't fill me up, but then discovered that not one, but two sliced chicken breasts were included (one breast was stacked on top of another in the same compartment, which is why I missed it at first). In the end, I wasn't hungry after this meal, but was still disappointed that several food items were listed on the menu and not included. Normally, I would give the lowest possible rating for such an egregious error as this, but will rate Thai Thai just a little bit better due to the fact that they included enough food to at least satiate our appetites (and my girlfriend actually had enough chicken left over to include in her lunch the next day). Still, if you are dead-set on getting Thai food, I suggest another restaurant. 2 stars.

It's the perfectly average, exceptionally typical Thai experience you haven't been looking for but will do in a pinch! The tempura-battered chicken wings in honey sauce, now that's a four-star appetizer. The rest of the food is like what would pop out of the Star Trek replicator - the banalized average of all other versions of it. The pad thai is as not great as it is not horrible. Tried the beef in oyster sauce, that was totally acceptable and edible. The Pad Something Something, a chicken dish with Chinese sausage, veggies and gravy over rice was a disappoinment. I think I got three tiny pieces of Chinese sausage, and the "gravy" seemed like it was just corn starch and water with a pinch of salt. Service seemed a tad bit touch slow. The Diet Coke I had was the perfect temperature.

I have driven by Thai Thai soooo many times and finally stopped in this past week. It's a very casual, homey place. It reminds me of a lot of the Thai joints my mom would take me to growing up. I'm guessing the owners were the servers - it was an older woman and man. For some reason when I saw the man's hands I imagined that he is actually a super hero and the restaurant is a front - OR - they are actually housing a Clark Kent and they own a restaurant to make people think nothing's wrong.... ...anyway, about the food. Awesome! We ordered the Fried Chicken appetizer. Now those are some big sized wings! The marinade was fantastic. The crispiness reminded us of tempura. Soooo good. I had the Pad Woon Sen with Chicken and my companion had the Pad Si Ew (sp?). We were both very pleased with our meal. I was a little nervous considering we were the only table they were serving during lunch but that did not affect the quality of the food at all. The veggies were nice and fresh. One disappointing factor is the lack of a Lunch Special menu. The prices are same all day long - an entree with an appetizer would probably run around $12 a person or so. The service was very attentive. Both the older woman and man were extremely friendly. I would definitely come back here. There aren't many Thai restaurants in this neighborhood. Thank god these guys are around and have fantastic food! Parking on Elston shouldn't be too hard.

It's kind of easy to write a review on a Thai restaurant. All Thai food is pretty much the same. Thai Thai is your standard run of the mill Thai restaurant. I did not dine in, we ordered take out for pick up. I had the chicken pad Thai and it was good! The servings are huge and you can easily get 2 meals out of of one "serving." My hubs had the chicken red curry, extra spicy. He did not care of his. He thought the curry wasn't especially hot. Thai Thai also gives you yummy almond cookies with your order. A sweet bonus to finish off your meal!

A wonderful neighborhood Thai Restaurant with the best peanut sauce & panang around the Irving Park & Albany Park area! The owner, Toy, is very friendly and remembers what you order. Great for take out & very casual dining! BYOB & affordable! Have been going there for over 15 years & have many friends who now go there for a great, affordable Thai meal! Healthy packed take out containers!!!

Everything is different, the kid at the front counter was a little mysterious about it when I asked him, but it seems they changed owners. The portions are SUBSTANTIALLY smaller, like less than half, and taste like something out of a box. My long love affair with my neighborhood thai place is over. RIP Thai Thai

I've been going to this place for years with my family. The owner and his son David are wonderful people! The food is authentic, no-frills, good thai food. Don't go here expecting something super new and creative, but if you are craving Thai, you will not be disappointed. I like the Pad See Ew in particular. The atmosphere is nice and quiet, a good place for going out with family or friends, and it's nicely priced also!

I have been goin to Thai Thai since they opened for buisness in the early 90's.It's a great,Family owned and operated resturaunt. The owner Toi is such a friendly person. The place is by far not a fancy place. The decor is old and outdated. The place is small also. But if your looking for good, inexpensive thai,This place is for you. The chicken satay is AWESOME! I have eaten at many Thai resturaunts in Chicago, and have never tasted a better chicken satay. The Pad Thai is really good also. That's the dish I have been ordering for years! But im also a big fan of the Cashew Chicken, spicy. Love it!! Im not saying it's the best in the city,But it's definitely in my Top 3. So if your in the area, stop on by.I think you will like it.
