We came for dinner on a Friday night at 6 and sat on the great patio for dinner. They have a pretty nice wine list and a delicious still rose on there. We started with the feta and avocado salad and the duck flatbread. Both were great and I would definitely order them again - good sharing portions. For our main courses we had the fried chicken, the app portion of the scallops and the octopus app. The octo and scallops were smaller portions and they gave a lot of pieces of chicken which was really delicious and had a perfect crunch. Sadly we were too full for dessert but we took a look and will have to try something next time. Overall very tasty! Will be going back especially to try out the brunch menu. Generally nice bonus that Chef Taus stopped out to check on tables as well.

Opening weekend. Space looks great. Bar area has two fireplaces and couches. I like the feel. Ambiance gets positive marks for sure. Menu was a little heavy for me, but might not be for others. I heard Friday night was rough for service due to trying to figure it out. Although Devin did great for us. He's obviously an industry guy. What I wish for -- the previous space Prasino was very kid friendly. The locals know what I am talking about. By the time the outside patio opens up I hope the menu has evolved and expanded to include a few kid meals....today there's nothing. Also, a few lighter alternatives. If so, this place will kill it.

What a major disappointment! We came on a Wednesday night, and were one of two tables in the entire restaurant. Not a good sign! The menu looked promising. We started with the Cavatelli and the Ricotta Tart and both were pretty bland. We had to actually ask for salt. I think if they had seasoned the dishes they may have stood out more, but we were both unimpressed. For our mains, I had the Stripped Bass and my friend had the Lobster. Again, we were both pretty disappointed. I don't know if they don't believe in salting their food, but nothing was seasoned. It was all just bland. The oxtail ravioli could have been pulled beef for all we knew. The mussels were slimy and when I tried to pull the meat off the shell it became very stringy and did not keep its plump shape. I couldn't eat them. I may come back for cocktails, but I wouldn't come back for dinner. The space is very beautiful - its just a disappointment.

Good cocktails, nice wine list (including by the glass options), but the service is spotty and the food is forgettable. Same as other reviewers - come for a drink, that's it. But there are plenty of better places in the area if that's what you're after. Everything we ordered came out lukewarm, which is inexcusable for a restaurant with premium food prices, much less the chef's reputation. The flat iron steak was prepared well but lacked flavor, odd given the menu description. (And the roast fingerling potatoes were undercooked, almost raw.) Same story for the octopus: bland. The scene is upscale couples and bourgeois singles. (Which is fine, if you're into that.) The atmosphere is good, and the bar area is welcoming. The lone bright spot was our bartender (Amy?) who did her best but was hurting for help.

4 of us had dinner at Taus Authentic last night, and it was a very disappointing experience. Our server was completely inattentive and seemed overwhelmed. She was no where to be found for most of the evening, and when we did spot her she would check on the table next to us and then walk away without coming to our table. We sat with empty glasses for 15 min before we could flag her down to get another drink. Our food took almost an hour to arrive, and she didn't once apologize or check in on us. We eventually flagged a manager to ask where our food was, and within a minute it appeared...though it was luke warm to cold. Clearly it had been sitting in the kitchen for a while. After the managers/runners brought the food our server came to us and said "bon appetit" and then walked away without asking if we had everything we needed - I had to wait and then flag her down to try and get some salt. To be honest the food was disappointing. Aside from being almost cold, it lacked real flavor and I have had many better meals in Chicago at the same price point (e.g. Avec and Publican which serve similar food but execute it MUCH better. The final blow was when we asked for the check and gave 2 cards, asking our server to split it. The bill was $140, and when we got our slips back she had charged $70 on one card and $140 on the other. We had to call her over and get that straightened out which took another 15 min. I know they are a new restaurant and are likely going through teething problems, but based on this experience we'd be reluctant to return.

I love what they did with the space. They transformed the stark, magnetic Prasino into a warm yet contemporary domaine. The bar area shows promise and hopefully will generate a bustling crowd for those of us that do not want to go to bangers and lace or the division/damen bars. The bar was made of this absolutely stunning marble. Seriously- can't stop thinking about the marble. Drinks- everyone's doing craft cocktails. It's just the industry standard by now. I can appreciate the thought of a proper cocktail program. These were okay, definitely well balanced. I think the pretension of the bar is what irked me a little bit. I don't care that you invented it, bro. Service- Amy was a great bartender! She was attentive and very excited about the product she was representing. Food- I didn't get a chance to try anything yet. I'll definitely be back to run through the menu as it looked solid. I'm not sure why they're rated at $$$$, seems like it should be $$$. I'm looking forward to this new neighborhood 'joint'. It's nice to see curated restaurant additions to Division St besides Carriage House.

Great meal. Fried Chicken and grilled feta avocado dish outstanding. Great service and beautiful decor. Definitely will be back can't wait to try their brunch.

Awesome meal. I was in a group of six so we were able to taste a lot of things and everything was delicious. Aunt Reba's fried chicken was crispy but not at all greasy and tasty . Striped bass and mussels were fantastic. The lobster dish and veal delicious. Try the duck cavatelli - tasty! I could go on and on but you will really enjoy anything you order here. Our server Marcus was very attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. Ask for him. Enjoy!

Ann P.'s review said it all - wish I had listened! But instead, 4 of us friends went tonight to check this place out. Atmosphere is nice, liked the lounge area. Cocktails are the reason I am now giving them at least a 2*. Food was a total let down. Very disappointed. Blend, no taste, zero spices used. The 4 of us ordered 3 appetizers - took 30 minutes to get them. All were served cold - and they were not all supposed to be. Stake tartare (no taste, luckily it was about 1 ounce), octopus (cold and chewy) & duck - which was cold too but at least had SOME taste. Had 2 fish & 2 meat main courses. (Check out the lobster pic), served cold again about 30 minutes after we finished the starters. My friend had the fried chicken which he liked. The rest was all disappointing. So to sum up the experience in numbers: 3 blend appetizers (1 ounce each), 3 cold & no taste main courses, 1 tasty fried chicken served in close to 2 hours for a total price of .....wait for it.....$250! You have been warned. Be smarter than we were and chose ANY other place in the neighborhood. Devision & Damen have amazing restaurants. This one will not last hopefully! Try Le Bouchon or Carriage House in the neighborhood instead - both amazing and have been consistently for many years!

The food and drinks were exactly average. Totally disappointed to find that this place is completely lacking uniqueness and expensive given that. The food was good, but nothing special, and not worth the expense. Wait staff was average. Everything average.

We went to Taus for a treat-yo-self kind of night and it was delicious! The cocktails (rosemary) were on point, the fried chicken was delicious, but we really loved the octopus dish as well as the lobster ravioli! I can't wait to go back and try the sea bass! This isn't your run of the mill neighborhood burger joint, it ranks up there with Ruxbin and Schwa in terms of experience so yes you will pay more for it but it was worth it! Their brunch menu also looked great and we will be going back to give it a shot!

I had dinner last night with my girlfriends for a friends bday and we had the most awful experience at this place. It is supposedly a fine dining experience but the music was heavy bang your head on the wall metal music. It was annoying music to enjoy a meal and try to have a conversation with. The portions were small with a big price tag but the worst part was the Delmonico steak that was 1/2 in thick and tasted like sawdust! The two people who ordered it spit it into their napkin and called the manager over. We commented on the music selection and the inedible steak and he stood there arguing with us! The decor is gorgeous but thats were the experience ends!

So here's the deal - it tastes good. A bit expensive. But nothing was memorable. Zealous was mine and the husbo's fave restaurant so we were so excited to have the chef move in the 'hood. But we walk by here a lot and never really have the urge or want to go back in. We had a cheese plate - typical. It wasn't anything unique. And I honestly can't remember anything else we had...Again - nothing was really memorable. The wait staff and service was great. It's a fun place to go in for a drink...but I'd skip the food. I really miss Prasino and thought Taus would be a good replacement but it let us down.

Okay okay, let me start by saying that I ran into the head chef of Taus outside the restaurant, and inquired as to gluten free options, he assured me he would make anything I wanted gluten free, and checked in with me several times throughout dinner. I ended up ordering the avocado and feta and braised octopus appetizers. They were amazingly delicious. So many flavored going on. The green goddess dressing was heavenly, I doused all my food in it. The best part was yet to come, Divers Scallops were a party of flavors. When do you ever get to enjoy scallops with pork belly on top of a shrimp pancake? And, please please please try the Old and Peppered.

Met up with a few girlfriends for a weeknight dinner to finally check out the new space. It looks beautiful inside. The layout is the same as Prasino, but I actually can't remember anymore what it looked like inside. Taus feels comfortable, but in a fancy way. The bar area has some fantastic lounge seating (and plenty of bar stools). Rather than ordering individual entrees, we decided to share a bunch of small plates: Sunchoke dosa--good, but not super memorable Baby greens--a salad, what else is there to say? Cavatelli--loved the duck and mushroom flavors in this Braised octopus--good, nothing to write home about though Ricotta tart--could have eaten 2 of these myself! Pomme frites--mmmm that truffle aioli Brussels sprouts--perfectly charred and with a curry flavoring of some sort Bohemian rhapsody--the kolachy was a bit dry, but the poppy seed ice cream was interesting (in a good way!), and the fruit dumpling was delicious Service was good and attentive...maybe a little too attentive? It wasn't super busy so perhaps that's why the server came around more often than I'm used to. I couldn't tell if he was just bored and trying to stay busy or if I was being rushed out/rushed to order more. I'd definitely go back, especially to try some of the other dishes. Would recommend for a group dinner or a date. The decor is impressive enough for nicer nights out, but the pricing is pretty standard. None of us drove to dinner, but I did notice they are using the elementary school lot across the street for parking. Wish it had been warm enough for the patio, but soon enough....I hope!

Beautiful woody mid century modern decor, good service, and creative dishes. I had the melt in your mouth beef tartare. Baby greens were crisp and refreshing with sliced oranges. And the fried chicken was hearty with unique sweet and savoriness. Great variety of desserts too. I had the chocolate cake which was a beautifully presented with mousse slices, Turkish ice cream dollaps and flourless chocolate triangles.

Nicely designed space and tables not too close together. We stated with 2 nice appetizers. The avocado/feta salad had nice flavors with the toasted feta chunks and green goddess dressing. The duck flatbread was very good. The chicken is a specialty and had a nice flavor of cinnamon? Intriguing. Short ribs were nice and tender. One of our diners had the pork chop with carrot filled pierogis last time they were here and like the pierogis so much, that's all they wanted. We had 2 desserts recommended by Violeta, peach upside down cake and fruit tart, that both were very good. The chef finished our meal with a glass of dessert wine. A nice touch.

Fantastic service! We came for brunch on a Sunday and couldn't have been more well-attended to - our server was prompt, friendly and knowledgeable about beer/menu items and more. I just have to say for the prices, the portions are small. Thankfully we had split the heirloom tomato and ricotta tart to start, otherwise it would not have been enough food. Afterward, my wife got the nutella/lemon french toast and I had the 'smoked fish' platter (aka lox platter, which, another note - just say what it is. I thought I was getting 2-3 smoked fish with various nibbles to go with, but it was basically a glorified lox platter with tiny toasts instead of a bagel.) The food WAS tasty, though. The prices, still, a bit of a shock for what you get compared to other spots (where similar dishes would come with sides and a substantially larger amounts.)

My wife and I were in our old neighborhood and decided to stop in to try this joint, which had taken over the old Prasino space on Division. What a pleasant surprise! They were happy to seat us outdoors, but after having a drink at the bar we enjoyed our bartenders' company so much that we decided to eat indoors. The wine list is well-curated, and my martini was perfect. The decor is reminiscent of 5-star boutique hotel. Beautiful, elegant, cozy. I can't say enough about the food. We followed servers' recommendations and had the avocado-feta starter, with razor thin slices of radish and not-your-grandmothers green goddess dressing. Flavors blend beautifully. Followed that with the lobster dish, accompanied by oxtail ravioli with bacon and chive. Superlative. If we'd stopped there, I would have already given this restaurant five stars. However, next came the fried chicken. I quite honestly have never had better fried chicken in my life. We told the chef how much we'd enjoyed the experience and he comped our dessert.

Super bummed about this place! I'm a neighbor and had been dying to try it as soon as it opened and only just got over there for the first time last night. I had read the mixed reviews on Yelp but was still super optimistic. We started with cocktails, I had a glass of rose and that was probably around 3 oz. It wasn't hugely expensive but come on, give me a little heavier of a pour. Then apps - we did the hamachi crudo with crispy pork belly - the pork belly bites (tiny tiny cubes) were better than the hamachi. I am a huge raw fish fan but this fish honestly tasted fishy - not fresh and not seasoned well in my opinion. We also split the steak tartare - another incredibly small portion and even the little crackers that it came with were less than impressive. The steak had almost no flavor - total bummer. Main courses were better - the lamb, we split it between two of us. Interesting starch on the side - Eggplant I think it was - kind of bland but the lamb was great, good to the bone. Expensive ($33) given that the majority of the plate was filled with eggplant & Brussels spouts. We also tried the ricotta tart (ok, not running back for it but not bad either) and then also the duck cavatelli. The duck was recco'd by our waiter and while I really enjoyed it, we could have had more - the portions were just so small at Taus given the prices. With two glasses of wine, one cocktail and the food described above we each paid about $80 including tip. That's a lot of a neighborhood spot on a Tuesday night. I realize Michael Taus is a bit of a big deal but I wish he would reframe the restaurant to meet his surroundings. I'm good with small plates but let's ensure the prices matches the meal, yes?

So glad this place took over the old Passino, the space is gorgeous. You walk in and feel at home. Service: Will the bartender shook our hands when we sat at the bar. He made eye contact, came over and introduced himself. It was a great start to our evening there. He allowed me to try two different reds and was ready for me to try more if I didn't like it but I did not want to put him through the back and forth. Ambiance: two fireplaces, couches, comfy barstools, grey, cream, and browns filled the space. Lovely! Wine: small list but good options from $9-$14. Cocktails were $11. Food: No late night menu but Will said they are working on it. I gave it one less star because the place was pretty dead besides a birthday party that thankfully filled their cavernous space. It was pretty sleepy otherwise. Hopefully with time more people take notice and come out to it.

Loved this place! The service was excellent and the food delicious. We started with the cheese and meat boards, both great. We shared the Fried Chicken. Green beans and corn bread with lemon butter came on the side. We also shared the Ribeye and Polenta, the Hunter sauce was so good. Our server was wonderful. She was super friendly and she steered us in the right direction. The chef came out numerous times to chat, and bought us dessert! We had the best girl's night out!!

Second chapter for this building, and for Chef Michael. Used to frequent Prasino but love the new space. Great to see things pick up for Taus Authenic. Staff is extremely friendly and filled with knowledge. Wine list is very solid. I'm a big fan of the fried chicken but the chicken liver mousse is pretty awesome as well. Chef Michael puts out inventive specials on a regular basis, no surprise there. Haven't tried brunch but I hear it's a killer experience in a neighborhood flooded with weak brunch experiences. The best part of the space is the bar worth visiting before and after your meal.

The chef de cuisine is truly a great man. Giving to the community. And making great food that is pleasing to my palate. My girlfriend and I had the pleasure of meeting chef and he was so nice and forgiving if any of our food needed a re do. Many chefs don't meet those tables. The food was excellent not only cause it was prepared with yumminess but because the chef himself was humbled by all of his patrons visiting his establishment. All the pictures represent the chef. Not everyone likes what we like but it definitely deserves another visit.

As a wicker park resident, I was very sad to see Prasino go and had been anxiously awaiting the opening of Taus Authentic. I must say, I was totally blown away. The atmosphere is warm, comfortable, rustic and modern. The food... We started off with the ricotta tart. The presentation was beautiful and the flavor was unexpected, yet delicious. I was expecting gooey ricotta, but it reminded me of a quiche- a very upscale quiche topped with an array of tomatoes, pesto and freshly grated parmesan cheese. Loved it. We also had the steak tartare- another beautiful presentation. I'm new to the steak tartare game so I don't have a lot to compare to, but it was yummy. I loved the mustard like sauce that was swiped across the bottom of the dish. For entrees we shared the striped bass, cavatelli with duck and the lobster oxtail ravioli. While all three were spectacular, I cannot stop dreaming about the striped bass. The skin was perfectly crispy and plated on top of wide rice noodles in a red coconut curry broth and surrounded by mussels. You have to try this fish. For dessert we opted for the cheese plate (as opposed to the composed cheese course in the dessert section) and the "chocolate cake". The cake was more decomposed than cake-like and so beautifully presented. I'm not huge into chocolate cake or sweet deserts in general- so I loved it. But I can imagine someone expecting a big slice of cake might be disappointed. Overall, I can't wait to return. Great addition to the neighborhood. Oh and Chef Taus stopped by every table to ask how things were going. I was so very impressed by this. Something you almost never see in downtown Chicago. We chatted about the dishes and he spoke of his wife putting together some ideas for a brunch menu.. Can't wait for that!!

Great restaurant with a HUGE outdoor area. The food is top notch. Get the burger or the Fried Chicken!! Staff is 1st rate with a very knowledgeable (and quick) bar staff. Worth the time to check it out!

Taus' modern take on French cuisine is a huge addition to Wicker Park's main drag. The very comfortable space is clearly lovingly designed by the chef, and the quality of the furnishings and decor makes one think that Taus Authentic was designed with precision and care by someone that is in it for the long haul. Did I mention that the food is damn tasty?

Um...yes. Long live Taus. We had been eyeing this place for awhile now and were super excited to get a Valentines Day reservation here. From the moment we walked in everyone was super friendly. The space is awesome...definitely different than the old Prasino, but still carrying through some similar themes...reclaimed wood, plush seating, and a really nice cocktail lounge area. It seems to be a great place to have whatever kind of evening you want, whether it's a nice dinner, an affordable dinner, or a nice place to have a cocktail. To start I got the ricotta tart and my husband got the sunchoke dosa. Both were great. For our entrees I had the flat iron steak and my husband had the pork shoulder. Again, excellent. The portions were perfect...and I appreciated that it wasn't overkill and allowed us the opportunity to experience the different tastes without being overly stuffed. We got the cauliflower as the side (quite possibly my favorite...) and the chocolate dessert which is a MUST. Towards the end of the dinner when we were drinking coffee and trying to savor every last bite of that chocolate dessert, Michael Taus's wife, Annette came over and introduced herself to us. She asked our opinions and really made us feel welcomed. You can tell that they have put much thought into the restaurant and are really invested in it. I hope this place does well. Definitely worth having a reservation...but there's a long communal table which is reserved for walk ins and a large lounge space as well. This is a fabulous addition to the Wicker Park neighborhood and I can't wait to go here again.

Popped in for Sunday brunch and can wholeheartedly recommend it. We had the French toast w/Nutella & lemon mascarpone, and the Braised pork tamale. Both were outstanding. The pecan cinnamon buns are also incredible. If you're tired of the typical pancake brunch and want something more sophisticated, visit Taus Authentic. Casual but elegant atmosphere with a huge outdoor seating area, and great food.

Cool, sleek space. Nice sidewalk patio. Having Michael Taus come out to greet us was great. The food we had was good - a couple of appetizers. Unfortunately, i just can't get past the crushing prices. $80 bought us a total of 4 beers and 2 appetizers. Can only imagine the bill if you decided to follow the recommended 3-4 course each strategy. I would like to see some changes to make this more competitive yet keep the same vibe and not turn into a bro-bar. I suspect the overhead costs are too much.

Literally my second yelp ever and it was 100% that I Just had one the best meals of my life at the new TAUS AUTHENTIC in wicker park. The staff was extremely inviting and very friendly from the moment I walked in the door... I started my meal with a cocktail called "curtsy and a bow". I am usually a classic old fashion type of guy but the bartender Meghan who was so nice by the way recommended it and it was amazing. I definitely recommend trying it. Once seated for dinner the restaurant is extremely cozy and very well designed. It's has a great ambience and great music that's not turned up to loud so I had to yell like most restaurants these days. My server Thomas was extremely friendly and knowledgeable about all the food and wine, and made spot on recommendations. And had perfect service from the start to the finish of the meal. There was nothing I had to ask for, water, more wine etc. Starters to try: Cured Hamachi Beef tartare The foie gras club And the CAVATELLI - my favorite starter For entrees: I recommend the lobster with oxtail ravioli And the Veal cheek "pot-au-feu" And definitely try the pomme frites with truffle aioli and the cauliflower gratin as sides for the table to share. For dessert: The "tbd named later chocolate cake" And the Paris-breast was amazing! The owner and chef Michael Taus came out with the General Manager to see how my meal was and were both very nice and really genuine. I just found my new favorite place to eat in chicago, and can't wait to come back and try all the other dishes on the menu.

We made a reservation for 8:00 last Friday. We showed up at 8:00 and sat on the patio. After a few minutes, a guy brought us water. That was the last time someone came to our table. We sat there, and sat there and nobody came to take a drink order or welcome us to the restaurant. There were servers all over the place, just not at our table. Chef Taus was even walking around overseeing things. At 8:25, we got up, told the hostess we were leaving and why, and left. There are way too many good places to eat near Taus Authentic to put up with not just terrible service, but no service at all. With the prices on the menu (that I looked at for 25 minutes), I would expect top notch service. I live just a few blocks away and I'll never be back. You blew it.

We have been wanting to try this place since it opened. The reviews were mixed but we wanted to try it and keep an open mind . The chef did come to our table to find out if we were enjoying dinner. The service and meal were fantastic . We had the duck flat bread and charcuterie for appetizers . Amazing! We felt the price point was right on . For dinners I had the lamb t-bone and my husband had the short- ribs. Again fantastic on both dishes. We felt portions size and price were on point . The wine pours could have been better. Over all great service and food! We will be back. Two thumbs up !

The venue is completely renovated and beautiful. I found the servers in the bar area to be attentive and knowledgeable. As for the food... The head chef, Michael Taus, interacted with diners at various tables, and when he approached our table, he recommended the fried chicken. Our party of four followed his advice. We ordered two of the Aunt Reba's Fried Chicken and the ribeye. Both the chicken and the ribeye dishes were served tepid. The ribeye was cooked perfectly to medium rare and aside from not arriving hot it was enjoyable. Most alarming was that one of our chicken dishes was visibly raw on the inside. I pointed out reddish cold piece of the chicken under the pile of breading to the server who apologized and quickly removed the dish. The server returned and offered a round of "free desert" to make up for the chicken dish. Three of our party asked to do dessert wine instead (two glasses of dessert wine, one glass of port, and the "To Be Named Chocolate Cake".) In response to the raw chicken issue, Chef Taus came by the table and explained that there was a new "15 year old kid" in the kitchen and that sometimes the thigh piece of chicken doesn't cook all the way through. Fine. This bland chicken dish was his recommendation and it was a young staffer's mistake, but okay. Mistakes happen and an apology and offer of the dessert seemed like a fine resolution. When the bill came we were charged for the raw chicken dish. The head chef, Michael Taus came over and explained that he thought he had been generous in comping us 42 dollars worth of drinks and dessert (after I had spent 111 dollars at the bar and this bill was for an additional 343). I clarified with him that it didn't seem that he was "being generous" while still charging me for raw chicken (24 dollar dish). I said "Fine, please charge me the 42 dollars AND for the raw chicken, I am happy to pay the full bill but I will share my experience on Yelp." Chef Taus seemed to realize his error and asked me not to post about this evening. He sent over a manager who was very professional and polite. The manager had removed the raw chicken from the bill and explained that there was a last minute party of 60 demanding people who were putting a tremendous strain on the chef and staff. As we were walking out the door a lady who was a manager or host followed us out of the restaurant and asked us not to post on Yelp and for us to realize that by hurting the restaurant we would be hurting people like her who would be out of a job. I told her that I am not sure that it would matter because even with the party of 60 the restaurant was empty on a Saturday night and I would be surprised if they could last another four months. This manager person bid us farewell with a disingenuous "Have a great evening and God bless you". As I have extended family who are restaurateurs in other cities, I am aware of how challenging this business can be. I wouldn't wish failure upon anyone and I really hope that Chef Taus can right the ship. Even if he does, I will not be back to appreciate it. It is just too frustrating to spend well over 500 bucks (with tax and tip) on a party of four and leave hungry and annoyed.

What a heartbreaker! We have visited twice. We live in the neighborhood. The bar talent is worth the visit. It's a special program. The accolades do end there. In another city, this place would survive. In Chicago it will be tough. Our guest was in from Seattle - he casually noted that the food and experience wasn't up to par. Embarrassing. We waited over an hour for our entrees. There were 6 tables in the house. Here's the disappointing food run down: 1. The burger - ordered rare - we were assured "cooks rare due to the type of beef we offer" came very well done. 2. Calamari and Hamachi appetizers were ordered to come together. They came nearly one hour apart. The Hamachi was tiny - maybe 1"x1" squares of fish. Tasty. The calamari was to be hot dish that was served warmish-cold and very flat, tasteless. The potatoes were not done through. 3. The braised beef was fine, but forgettable. The insult to injury was that, after waiting an hour, the waitress never, ever came by to check on us once the meals were delivered. She glanced our way tens of times, but never made the effort. Almost as though she knew. We had to also get up to ask for our check. Really disappointing. Our first trip in was different only in that our service was much stronger.

I've been lucky enough to dine here twice recently. Sat outside on gorgeous nights with good-sized groups, so I've gotten to sample MUCH of the menu. Everything was terrific - the sea bass might be the most delicious entree I've had in years and the heirloom tomato tart was fabulous as well. The chef stopped by and even cleaned up a spill for us. Love finding a spot like this - will definitely be back.

LOVE this place. The food is fantastic. The ambiance is lovely and the outdoor patio is huge. I wish summer was longer so I could enjoy the patio for months on end. I have been several times, and I have many favorites on the menu of which I'll try to name just a few! Aunt Reba's fried chicken lives up to the hype! It's the stuff of dreams. Two of my other craves are the lamb chops and the diver scallop. I could go on and on; I enjoy everything on Chef Taus' menu. I have also recommended Taus Authentic to several friends, and everyone has told me they had great experiences. I always look forward to my next visit!!

Truly innovative and flavorful food! The indian dosa appetizer was particularly delicious, satifying even my indian mother. Decadent without being pretentious.

My friend had a hand in redesigning this place and my boyfriend was excited because of the infamous chef. sad to say, we were pretty disappointed. The space is beautiful, and a wonderful change from the generic design of prasino. The bar is worth visiting and I loved the movable glass doors in the dining area. Dont overlook the comfy wood eames chairs. We ordered the creme of cauliflower, diver scallops, lobster ravioli and pork shoulder in a kimchi stew. They were all pretty bland. The only flavor from the creme of cauliflower came from the grapes. We expected the kimchi stew pork shoulder to be bustling with flavor due to its ingredient, but sadly it was a mediocre broth I could have made myself. The reason its rated $$$$ because you get about 2 bites per each $20 dish. After a $130 bill, we had to go to red hot ranch to satiate our palettes and our bellies. Boo. I dont know how this kind of restaurant is going to survive in this neighborhood. They just need to reevaluate the way they're situating their foods. Take away message: come for drinks and not for food unless something changes.

My partner and I ate here lay week and absolutely loved it. Fantastic food- try the beef tartare, braised pork shoulder with Kim chee, stellar seared scallops with pork belly and shrimp pancake. Great hand made cocktails and a great wine list. We will definitely be back!

A truly fantastic spot for brunch lunch and dinner! We had our two daughters under the age of 10 and they treated them like adults and absolutely scored a homerun. The atmosphere and the food is a perfect blend of upscale and relaxed the service couldn't have been better. If you can snag a table outside in this summer weather, it is great.

Disclaimer: Friday 5-6.30 happy hour only Great bar, nice homey living room feel with crown molding and fireplaces ( plus obligatory Chicago tv's ). Tried the beef tartare (very good) and octopus (cooked perfectly, flavor just good not great). We'd definitely come back and look forward to a dinner here.

I've been looking forward to going here since it opened and finally was able to go to brunch and dinner over the past week. Both experiences were really good. I was hesitant after hearing some mixed reviews and reading some quite negative yelpers but we enjoyed everything. Brunch was great. Large patio with plenty of shade. One of the best bloodies I've had. French toast was tasty. Croque madame was perfect. The creamed eggs were also fantastic. Portions were on the smaller side but we left full, so probably appropriate. Dinner was also a success. They did a nice job renovating the place. Nice cocktail list and bar area. We started with the oysters and tartare. The tartare was okay. Not the best I've had. Then we had the Sunchoke and the cavatelli. Both were really well done. Interesting combination of flavors. For entrees we had the scallops and the burger. Also excellent. Everything was high quality and fresh. Lost a star because it's a little over priced and small portions. But we'll definitely be back.

I rarely write reviews on Yelp but after last Saturday night's experience, I felt the need. We had an incredible meal and service at Taus. We sat at the bar and Megan was our bartender/server. She steered us in the right direction with her recommendations. We started with the lobster oxtail ravioli and followed that with the duck cavatelli. Both were amazing. Relaxed before ordering our main dish. They were completely accommodating and the spacing of the dishes was perfect. We had the fried chicken and the burger. Both were delicious. We ordered the Bohemian rhapsody for dessert. Perfect size for 2 full stomachs. YUM! We also had the pleasure of talking to the chef as we were leaving. He was very genuine. We are definitely going back soon.

This could have been a 3 star review and I would have given Taus a chance to work out it's issues and go back. I have eaten there three times, ordering the scallops, sea bass and Delmonico. The preparation is good, but each time I am left with the feeling that the sauces and spices are used to mask the fact that the food is not up to the quality of the menu's prices. I have a had the Brussell sprouts 2x and the Thai long beans. None of them should have been harvested, much less prepared for serving. The fish was no better than grocery store quality despite price points that indicate fresh catch. Still, this would have garnered a three star rating. How this got to be a 1 star rating is because when I finished the waiter asked me how it was. I answered honestly and said "okay" He wanted to know what needed to be improved,. I shrugged him off and got the bill. After paying he got in my face and insisted on knowing. I told what I said above. He got confrontational and challenged me to tell the owner/chef. I didn't want to stay, but am willing to back up what I say. I wait several minutes for him to get the owner and am tempted to leave. Instead they send someone who seems impressed that she is the night manager and doesn't get that I have explained to one staffer what my issues are and is demanding I tell her. The experience having crossed from mediocre with a possibility I might return changes to bad and I'm not returning until I see what replaces Taus.

Sad to say, but the food was a huge miss. Every single dish we tried was wildly under-seasoned (diver scallop, lobster ravioli, duck cavatelli, long beans). The lobster was overcooked to the texture of a rubber band. The long beans with peanuts were 85% boiled, unseasoned peanuts. We sent half of it back untouched. The delays waiting for food on Friday were really long, but that might be because it was "day 3," as everyone kept reminding us. I had such high hopes for a great neighborhood spot on my walk home from the blue line. Unless they really get their act together with the food, this is not it.

This place will not be staying open much longer. OK...here's the deal: We showed up on an early Saturday evening. The patio seating was only one third full and the inside was practically empty. We approached the host and asked to be seated. The manager (odd guy with jeans and a tie) instructed us that we would have to wait an hour. Why? Because if he gave us a table we would "overload the kitchen." What? Overload the kitchen!? If your kitchen can't handle an empty restaurant, then you need a new kitchen staff. Good luck competing with real restaurants that thrive on being slammed with paying customers. I swear, it was like they didn't want our money. Fast forward to an hour and a half later. The cheese platter is so small it's comical (our party literally laughed when it arrived). The "award winning burger" was mediocre. The fried chicken that the server told us "always sells out" was so saturated with oil it left us sick afterward. To top things off, they forgot one of our entrées. Half of our food was cold when it arrived, and the meal was incredibly inconsistent. The icing on the cake was the two growling, barking, devil dogs that ran amok at the table next to ours, barking at every dog and ankle that walked past. It's sad. The space is cool. The menu seems exciting. It has all the makings for a nice place. But it falls incredibly short. I'm bitter that I spent my money here. At least it's clear it will close soon and hopefully a REAL restaurant will open in it's place. Save your money and eat at one of the other handful of restaurants on Division.

This place doesn't know what it is. The name made me think it's Mexican food. The music playing was trying to be hip. The menu was all over the place. And I was surprised how empty it was on a Saturday night at 7, until me and my date ate our entrees. It was fried chicken that was over-fried by about a mile. Her entree was pork that looked terrible, I wouldn't even take a bite which is rare for me. Service was trying so hard to be good, but waitress barely paid any attention to us and the place was empty. On the other hand, the water guy who offered "complimentary sparkling" was very attentive. Almost too much. The only upside, 2 things: my old fashioned was excellent, but waitress didn't know what it was. And the cauliflower soup was solid, but on the menu doesn't explain that it is soup. And at the end of the meal, I get a $100 check for a meal I generally disliked. I will not be going back, which is too bad because they have an excellent location.

Phenomenal. Truly an upscale experience with daring culinary offerings, well-crafted cocktails, attentive and knowledgeable service (ask for Phil), and an outstanding outdoor dining area (great for people watching). We indulged in the decadent oysters with yuzu, lamb, braised octopus, and Thai beans. Each dish was able to stand on its own and we will order the exact same thing when we visit again.

I took my girlfriend here for our two year anniversary. We had a 915 pm reservation on a Sunday night, and we all know how that can go. Being the last reso, late at night, after a brutal weekend. We were happily greeted when we came through the door. The host and manager used my name when seating us, which was very nice. Our server Philip was absolutely wonderful. I had the pleasure of dining at Zealous with Chef Taus quite a few times over the last few years and I was sorry to see it close. But with the return of his stellar cooking, I knew we were in for a special evening. Chef Taus came out and talked with us table-side for a few minutes. We enjoyed the ricotta tart, braised octopus with spanish chorizo as our apps. Then the fried chicken and Delmonico ribeye with marscapone polenta as our entrees. Both were spectacular! The server recommended a Scotch Ale with my steak which was a perfect pairing. Whether for a special evening or just a fun night out, I highly suggest taking in Taus Authentic.

We sat at the bar and had excellent service. The fried chicken was some of the best I've had in the city. Cocktails were on point. I feel like some of the appetizers were a little overpriced. $13 for the ricotta tart and we finished it in about 3 small bites. I'll definitely be back to try the rest of the menu.

I am a foodie. So I love trying these singletons. This was the first time here (recommendation) and being suburbanites, finding street parking was not fun. The hostess said we could park for free across the street (on Sundays). She was super nice and attentive. Chef Taus came out to talk to us. Our server, Phil, had great recommendations and knew that menu. We had the oysters, octopus, and cavatelli (duck) for starters. For entrees we ordered the lamb t-bones and the veal cheek and a side of Thai green beans (the long ones!). Every dish was incredibly flavorful with every bite. The only thing about the lamb is I like it rare, and these ones were more on the well side. Not to worry though, the food was still awesome, especially with dessert coming. Chef Taus sent out his chocolate cake. Incredible. Additionally, you must order the cocktails, but also designate a driver. Go there now.

Beautiful space, really turned Prasino into a cozy, cool restaurant. Unfortunately the food fell way short. Everything we tried was underseasoned to the point of being unpleasant. the beef tartare was just bad. It was as if they took ground beef from Mariano's and plated it on a tepid bland sauce (XO sauce, as if cognac could provide a flavor) with 3 toast points and thought it was memorable. What WAS memorable was the steak tartare at Longman & Eagle we had two days before that was rich with egg yolk, egg whites, onion and a finely chopped beef salted appropriately to develop a rich, luscious experience. My wife's main course was a decently pan seared fluke (still well under seasoned) on a plate of greasy shrimp pancakes. Meehhhh! My brine and braised pork shoulder was reported by our server to be incredibly tender with a flavorful kimchi sauce and some mushrooms. in reality the pork was chewy, stringy, fatty and laying in a bland sauce that added no appealing flavor profile. Oh, and it took 25 minutes to get our dinner after the apps. that gaff I could rationalize away as opening week kinks to be worked out with the service team/kitchen coordinating. What can't be excused is that the absolutely mediocre to bland meals were being directly supervised by the eponymous chef. This is Michael Taus'baby...raise it up to memorable! Or at least flavorful!

Started strong then...Meh. My husband ordered a great cocktail at the bar that came with a big cube of ice (pretty standard for cocktails these days). The bartender was fantastic and personable. He then ordered the same drink again once we were seated for dinner and it was served with regular ice cubes - very confusing. As far as the food goes, we ordered a few apps (which were good but pretty basic), then the Striped Bass and Fluke. The mussels that came with the bass were inedible (gummy, thin, stuck to and couldn't get them out of the shell). The fluke was fun and flavorful, much better than the bass dish. Caveat: It was Ash Wednesday so we were not able to try the meat dishes of which there was an extensive list. When the bill came, we surprised to see that we were charged $29 and $28 respectively for the bass and fluke instead of the $17 and $16 that the menu said. Turns out we were given the full portions of the fish instead of the 'half' portions and then were respectively charged for it. Miss-communication at its finest.

2 stars for outdoor space and drinks, everything else is a solid .5 star event- the food that wasn't over or under salted was fine, definitely nothing to write home about... The inside bartender, outdoor server and cute guy at the bar I was chatting with get a solid thumbs up, everyone else killed the buzz...

Beautiful space and welcoming from the moment we walked in on valentines day, perfect cocktails and amazing service. The food however.......lacked complete seasoning and salt. Bread comes out first and has a tasty salt topping, which we wished we would've saved to sprinkle on our main dishes. We started with the sunchoke dosa and the cavatelli, each were lovely but under seasoned. Main courses: flat iron steak with chimmichurri seasoning...very misleading. The meat was cooked to perfection, but was possibly the most bland dish ive had in a long time. We (and the couple next to us) wondered if they left the chimmichurri off? Secondly we tried the pork shoulder, which again was cooked to perfection , but....needed salt or seasoning! Again, amazing service, but bland and underseasoned beautifully cooked food. My fiance and i live a black away and will be back but hope the food gets seasoned better next tine!

A really great place. I love the 2 Fireplaces and that very cozy feel of the place . Super nice hostess and I was also promptly seated and had my water and a Still warm delicious in house made bread bun with butter. I ordered the flat iron steak and braised octopus. Both arrived promptly the steak was great but the octopus was my favorite With this beautiful creamy sauce on the bottom. Than the Chef Michael came out introduced himself and we had a nice quick chat i appreciate it when people care like that and take the time to be there . Thank you Michael And thank you Alison my waitress who took very good care of me I will be back definitely

This is one of the worst dining experiences I have had in a few years. Terrible service, lukewarm food. Not sure I would return even if someone else was paying. I have been trying to figure out what was worse the food or the service but that is like deciding if you want a hard punch in the face or a kick in the nuts. The only thing nice I can say is they did a great job in building out the space. I guess if you want bad service and lackluster food this is a place to go.

The bar/lounge are of Taus Authentic is absolutely lovely. The decor is fabulous . Posh yet cozy. With a fireplace at each end of the space, one can enjoy a cocktail and conversation in comfort and style ! Freezing in Chicago and I am always searching for a social space with a fireplace. Bonus-- two in a beautiful room. The speciality drink list is great. Gin drink divine. Wine list superb. Very new place so food rating still in flux for me. Fried chicken dish was the winner of the three mains we ate. I look forward to going back soon.

My husband and I were huge fans of Zealous so I was thrilled to hear that Michael Taus took over my much-loved Prasino space. The décor is fantastic and the hostess couldn't have been lovelier. The bartenders were equally as friendly and knowledgeable, but it ends there. I found the food to be mediocre and over-priced, which I can say for many restaurants that I frequent, but I can't get over the music or the attitude of Alexander, the manager. I told Alexander that I didn't want my meal comped or replaced, but that my Delmonico steak (which I expected to be a thick, juicy rib-eye) was thin and dry. He simply argued that it was a Delmonico steak. I also mentioned that it was hard to have a relaxing dinner and conversation listening to heavy metal music, to which he replied -- "I can't account for your taste in music". I have no problem listening to heavy metal music at the Hide-Out or Delilahs but I feel uneasy listening to Megadeth for 4 hours while I'm paying $38 for a tasteless steak in a restaurant with crystal chandeliers. The management team needs to decide if they are a fine dining restaurant or a neighborhood, hipster place because the music, prices, décor and attitude don't add up. I'm sure the restaurant will do fine once the outdoor patio opens but, in the meantime, the place was empty because the fish stinks from the head down.

Taus restaurant has a very nice interior and service but it's VERY overpriced. Plus they don't have a finger food, portions are very small. It's nothing compare to PRASINO, the place that was here before. I was very disappointed because portions were too small even for the main dish. I left restaurant hungry. :( This place might be out of business if they will not change the menu and price. Taus should target people with middle income not high. Most likely I won't be back here and it's a shame since I live in this area. When it was Prasino, I was there every week. It's also something to reconsider for the owner. I think this place is not for this neighborhood. Good luck guys!!!

Last night had a great dinner at Taus Authentic. First of all the space is built out extremely well. Which allows for an even better dining experience. They put some time and thought into the appearance and flow of the restaurant. The service was very attentive and being the first time asked a lot of questions on the menu and were ale to answer them all. We had some starters and the braised octopus was the hit of the starters for us. Both main courses we ordered were very good also. They have a good drink menu, we went with wine and there is overall wide selection and plenty to choose from at which we liked a varied price point. I will definitely be going back to try the rest of the menu or for drinks as the bar area is really nicely done. Great addition to the neighborhood and I hope to see this place always crowed as it should be.

It's rare to find a place that not only looks great but also has great atmosphere AND AMAZING FOOD! As the head of an international sales team I travel and eat out a lot. Chicago has always been a favorite food destination and going to Taus Authentic last night reinforced that belief. The place looks beautiful and the bar area is extremely inviting. We were shown to our seat by a very friendly host and our dinner (group of 4) was perfect. Around the table we had the lamb chops, the cavatelli, the ricotta, the ribeye and the pork shoulder. All were insanely good and cooked to perfection. The food was washed down with plenty of interesting and tasty cocktails and we all opted for desert. The chocolate cake should not be missed! The chef and owner Michael , who stopped by to say hello, was very nice and added to an already great night. I will be coming back!

Nice bar as others have detailed. The wait staff has been good and attentive each time I was here(twice). The food was good, delicious and filling. The wine list is good but not great. The scotch offerings at excellent though. Michael Taus has added a gem of restaurant to the neighborhood, thanks.

It was my first time dining at Taus Authentic and it exceeded all of my expectations. Upon arriving, we were immediately greeted by a hostess and my friend and I decided we wanted to sit at the bar. Our bartender, Will was extremely attentive and the General Manager helped us pick a great bottle of champagne. The bar/lounge area is beautifully decorated and cozy - perfect addition to all of the great Division St restaurants. We ordered the Ricotta Tart and Cavatelli w/ Duck and both were delicious. I would HIGHLY recommend this spot for a cozy night out or group outing!

Came here for opening weekend expecting some kinks. Upon entering, was greater by friendly hostess and escorted to the bar to await our table. Service was slow, but extremely friendly. Tried banana split and rock the red cocktails - both delicious! The bar/lounge area is gorgeous. Library chic meets restoration hardware. Two fireplaces are the focal points setting a warm ambience. After a half hour, my partner and I were taken to the main dining room which is a mix of shared long farmhouse tables and single tables. We were settled into a cozy cubbyhole. The menu is broken down into a three course style - starters, souls/salads/cheeses, and finally proteins. We had the charcuterie board to start. The liver mousse was rich and creamy, definitely the star player. The pig cheek cuts missed the mark. We then had the fried chicken and the braised pork shoulder in kimchee broth and split an order of the pomme frites. Chicken was a bit dry, but cinnamon added sweet surprise to the skin. The braised pork literally fell off and paired nicely with the shitakee mushrooms and rich broth. Pomme frites are well, just fries in the end. Portions were generous, and we skipped dessert. The bill for two with drinks ended up being $120 which is not bad. Overall, dinner was as expected. Great ambience, better than average food, but not blown away. Would definitely come back for drinks, but think twice about dinner. Recommend waiting for the business to work out any kinks and refine the menu before dining.

Uh-mazing! My friend and I went this past Saturday for my birthday celebration. We were frequenters of Taus' former restaurant, Zealous, which we were very sadden to see close. Our expectations of Taus and this new concept was everything we expected it to be! We were seated promptly, with our reservation time, greeted by our waiter, and the service continued at a great pace and never once pushy or rushed. Now onto the real point of dining out . . . the food! My friend and I dine out a fair amount from simple, cheap places to fancier places, and we always rate the restaurants. We gave Taus an A-; the only other A- we have ever given was to Zealous and Senza, both now closed. *sad face* So far no one has gotten an A. In addition, we rank dishes and did so as follows: Clam special for the night, Sunchoke Dosa (which I have never had anything like and done so well!), Cavatelli (the duck was amazing but the sauce is what really did it), Lobster with Oxtail Ravioli (done very well, but not unique per se - sauce was also great on this one), and the brussel sprouts (perfectly done but no wow factor - what can you really do with a side of sprouts that could wow??). From top to bottom, we found nothing to complain about. The only "complaint" we could try to make is that the brussel sprouts were as good as brussel sprouts could be; and that is not a complaint but realistic praise. And of course we had dessert - the Market Fruit Tart - which was basically like homemade apple tart - but so freakin' good! I don't even like apple based desserts, but I gobbled this up! I cannot remember where we ranked it in our list but eh. It does not matter b/c it was sooo good! We will definitely be back, together and with others. We still have a good 80% of the menu to explore. I immediately recommended it to friends shortly after leaving. A must go to!

The space is gorgeous. Warm and inviting. We stopped for an after work cocktail and sat at the bar. Bartenders were friendly, but the one (I did not catch his name, but he was the shorter of the two working that night) came off as forced and not very genuine. It was over the top as if he wanted to impress us with his cocktail knowledge (which wasn't much) and then his actual "service" was lackluster. We sat and waited for 15 minutes for him to run our cards when there were only 2 others at the bar and another bartender working. The cocktail itself was just ok. The one my gf ordered was better but still not good enough to have us clamoring to come back. We looked at the food menu and contemplated having a bite but there is NOTHING on this menu that is cocktail worthy. The starters are all salads, soups and charcuterie and then it jumps right to $25 entrees. They should certainly consider an independent bar menu that's more conducive to being paired with some happy hour cocktails. Bottom line - I was hoping for more.

went with a larger group for a celebration dinner. the ambiance was gorgeous and the wine and beer selection was stellar. its a good place for a cocktail or a date and drink. unfortunately the food was not good. the portions were small and the food was mediocre- its not a good bang for your buck. the service also needs some work, but we anticipate that this could improve over time.

This place has amazing food and drinks and a lovely atmosphere. The inside decor creates for a very relaxing experience and the have the largest outdoor patio on division st. I highly recommend this place

Gorgeous space (clearly a labor of love), delectable cuisine, stellar service -- by far the best spot to dine in Wicker Park.

Amazing avacado and feta salad. Striped Bass with Muscles in a red coconut curry broth was delish, followed by melt in your mouth short rib. Perfect dinner for a Friday night with my bestie :) Great cocktails too...love this place!
