I ordered a steak burrito and it was delicious. It was filled to the brim with meat! Most places skimp on the meat but not here! Be prepared to have leftovers. It is fantastic for a late night snack. Patience is key when ordering food, but it is worth it. Especially if you've had a couple of drinks and are looking for something to fill your stomach. I end up here most nights when I've been out late, and it is great for the following morning.

Maybe it was that I was starving or maybe it was that I was starving and had 1 old-fashioned, 2 craft beers, and 4 Manhattans in me, but this place is fahqing G-O-L-D. And I have lived within walking distance for 9 years and have never given two thoughts to going here... because opting for 7-11 seemed like such a better idea every other time. SO WRONG. Beef burrito. My jam. Even better and what I love, they don't mix peppers, onions, potatoes or other crap that I can't stand in my meat. Y'all are probably saying "where da flava at?" if you don't have all the fixins mixed in. Don't need it. It's good. And they gave me no flippin' judgment when I asked them to load on the cheese and leave out the sour cream and refried beans. I would eat this place anytime! And it's huge. Monster food for monster appetites that will keep you from being the Hangover Monster the next morning. Why do I always find the good stuff before I move?!

Ordered the chilaquiles. It was hot delicious and cheesy. Just what I had expected and more!

First try and it's been recommended to me. I tried the stake burrito and chicken tacos, and overall, the food was quite normal. Talking about authentic Mexican food, the food is to stop your hunger and there are better place than this.

  • Steve R.

Yeah. You treated me like an asshole despite me trying to communicate with you. I tried. Bye.

  • Robyn R.

I ordered delivery - my order was messed up...I didn't get my nachos, and instead I got two orders of bland chicken tacos when I ordered quesadillas. Mediocre food at best.

    (2)
  • Emily T.

One star for being open late. The chicken nachos... Yuck. Looked good at first glance, but the chicken tastes like rubber. Won't be back.

Lots of Bang for your Buck This little Mexican eatery serves up some delicious Mexican cuisine. Their prices are quite easy on your wallet as well. I went with the fish tacos which are the size of street tacos. When out with a group everyone can order their meal based on how empty their stomach is. The food was on par with the price, but sometimes your not looking to break the bank when you need to fill your belly.

  • William B.

It obviously is spending part of its time targeting the "drunk in Lakeview in the middle of the night" demographic (not that there's anything wrong with that). But they do seem to serve some plausible tacos -- I tried pastor and chorizo, and while neither one makes me want to give up my tickets to Mexico City, both were plausible enough to intrigue me. The red salsa is bland and useless; the green hot sauce in a squeeze bottle is great stuff. Color me cautiously optimistic.

Omg why is everyone hating so hard don't do my boo like this. I live around the corner so of course my penchant for carbs leads me here too often, and I think it's pretty legit Mexican food. This is coming from someone who is spoiled from nomaful Mexican joints in the Midway area. The nachos- On point. And they annihilate them with guac. YAS PLEASE. Nothing like a Mexican joint not charging extra for that amount of guac. Tacos- I've had all but the fish because, you know, fish and those are bae right there. Get them all for days Burritos- The not jr. one I ordered lasted me 3.freaken.day . SO HUGE but it was like day 3 and I'm all like "should I eat this orrrrr nah?" and I went with nah and legit almost cried because it was like throwing away sex. Seriously, they found a way to make sex in burrito form. Inside is indeed small and ALWAYS empty (literally never seen another customer waiting/eating) but WHO CARES! More space for me if I want bust out a random Selena number because yolo. And it reminds me of the Mexican version of the Leaky Cauldron and everyone knows the only people who can enter the leaky cauldron are wizards. So maybe you get bad service because you're not a wizard and they need to disguise themselves as a bad Mexican food joint. And people from NM or Texas or where EVER you're claiming has superior Mexican just shut your entire life. Why are you even eating Mexican food in Chicago? You eat it enough where you live to claim it's superior so LIVE A LITTLE. YOU DON'T EVEN GO HERE. The people here are pretty cool too. My pickup order is always done within 10 mins and BOOM is right there on the counter waiting for me because I'm a wizard. They sometimes try chatting me up but I'm like " lol bye forever I'm about to make love to this."

Points for being open late (even on a Sunday). However, the burrito I had was mediocre at best. It was missing something, couldn't put my finger on it, but it was. The portion was large which was nice because I was starving. Other customers were having nachos, which looked delicious. If I ever go back, that's what I'll try. Overall, just an eh experience. So many better Mexican places around. I'd shop around before settling for this joint.

  • Megan S.

If you've read any of my earlier reviews you'll know I lived in TX for a couple years so I have high expectations for mexican food. This place is awful. The nachos had NOOOOOO taste what so over. The chips were out of a bag. The chicken, nothing. The guac is better at chipotle. Why are there carrots in the jalapeno/salsa thing? The beans looked/tasted like baby food. The burrito...not much better. The tastiest part was the cheese. Womp womp. Moving on to the next place....

    (1)
  • Ben B.

It's late and you're starving. Burrito House hears your call. By no means should this place be your prime destination. There are plenty of other places with better food. But if you want something quick and cheap and filling, Burrito House can do the job. This is my go-to when the Chipotle on Broadway and Belmont is closed.

  • Lucas P.

I've been here a million times because I live close by and I like Mexican food. PROS: Open late, cheap, usually pretty fast. Food is always decent. CONS: They never, ever write my order down. Even when I'm the only customer, the person behind the counter will just stare at me while I tell them my order, then mutter my order to the cook in Spanish, forgetting half of what I said. What. The. Fuh. Get. A. Pen. Sometimes I hear what they are saying and correct them. Other times, their sweet deceitful whispers are too quiet for me to detect, and I get something very different from what I asked for. For instance, the other night I said: "I want a quesadilla with 3 things in it: Al pastor, cheese, and guacamole." Of course, a pen and paper wouldn't make sense if you were trying to accurately transcribe someone's wishes. No, you just remember what you can and tell the cook whatever that is 30 seconds later. So what did they make me? 3 quesadillas with just al pastor and cheese. Thanks guys. So typical that I ain't even mad.

Catching up with a friend after work and he offers up Taco & Burrito House as a meeting spot. I had eaten a rather hefty supper and only had room for somthing light. And what was my definition of light? Chips and guacamole. Holy moley! Taco & Burrito House is already a hole in the wall and you always get the best food at holes in the wall. I swear the chips were warm. And you don't pour chips from a bag and heat them up. As to the guacamole, all you big box restaurants that make guacamole, you need to take lessons from Taco & Burrito House. So, the chips and guacamole were good enough. I will have to return and try some more comida de Mexico de Taco & Burrito House.

  • Melanie V.

Well, it's been 6 years since my last review. (Holy crap. Where has the time gone?!) This place is still a gem. I've grown to love two things that no one probably orders on their menu - the spinach quesadillas and the pork tamales. Too good. Top it with their salsa verde and you're all set. And, once in a while, I'll order the flan and horchata. They have a great selection of items (breakfast all day, burritos, tacos, burgers, fries). Free delivery, too, for those days you just can't bring yourself to leave the house. Loves.

If it's late, you're inebriated and need some food before you head back home in the Lakeview East neighborhood, this is the spot. Fast, surprisingly decent Mexican food.

  • Jul N.

Vegetarian burrito is the best in the area. Filled with refried beans, cheese, sour cream, lettuce, tomato, and plenty of guacamole, in a fluffy, doughy, just slightly crispy oversize wheat tortilla. No frozen filler vegetables like places that do the whole chopped carrots/peas/corn/broccoli thing with cheddar and then cheap rice. Just no. Ask for both red and green salsa. Sometimes my order has been missing it. Other items don't look as awesome so I am telling you - burritos all the way!! Chroizo and steak also good.

  • Kaela C.

5 Stars for being open late at night when I'm craving tacos and for being right around the corner. I haven't had a bad food experience yet. The tortillas on the tacos are to die for and if you're in the Lakeview area and you're looking for some great Mexican food without breaking your wallet, this is the place you need to go. Everyone who works there is always so nice and I never have to wait longer than 5 minutes for my food. One of my neighborhood favorites. If you haven't gone or are new to the area like myself, you need to give this place a shot.

  • Jevita N.

Late night option. .. Ok, SO let me start of by saying the guys that were in there at 1 am were really nice. However it so many better options for mexican in lake view that are open late night. The food was bland and really oily.

  • XL V.

Food was cooked right in front of me (which is sort of neat) but the eggs were burnt like I was eating the scrapings off the bottom of a burnt pot. The flavor and authenticity was fair, if only it didn't smell burnt. It seems they don't clean the appliance all day long. The place is small. Service is fair. I don't know if I'd go back when there are so many more options in this particular neighborhood.

  • Jimmie W.

I revisited this spot again on this past Tuesday because I was in the neighborhood and I thought I would try it again. This time I ordered the Burger Special for lunch it also came with fries and a pop for about 6 bucks. The burger was fresh (not a frozen patty) u could tell it was made in house it was cooked perfectly, all it needed was salt and pepper, the fries were crispy and soft on the inside overall for 6 bucks this meal truly exceeded my expectations. I know you my think why order outta all things a burger from a Mexican restaurant but trust me when I tell you ... " That was a Good Ass Burger" and I definitely am endorsing it to be legit so check it out if you're ever in the area.

  • L T.

Solid late night burrito house. Nice staff. Will make anything you want. Recommend steak and chorizo burrito. Tell them to throw some rice in. Nachos are also good.

  • Laura H.

Not sure I'd eat here sober, but they get 4 stars because I'm always super enthusiastic when I do eat here. Burritos. Regardless of what meat I choose, it always kind of seems the same. Still...not disappointed. If you're coming here, you know what you're getting. Guacamole needs salt but their chips are great.

    (4)
  • Laura D.

DELICIOUS after-bar or just late night craving tacos! Tacos pastor and enchiladas pastor are delicious! the staff is nice and the place is open late ! dulce de leche was yummy too :)

  • Thomas K.

I had it delivered and it was the worst Mexican food I've had in years. my advice is to stay away from this place. I ordered a number of things: the burritos the tacos and the chile relleno. The meat was not seasoned there was no salt pepper in the meat and the hot sauce was bitter and had seeds in it which made it difficult to digest. I did not go to a medical doctor but I can say my stomach felt a little woozy a few hours after so please beware of this place. One strange thing about the burritos was the outer crust of the burritos started chipping away like they were stale in the chips had a stale smell too. This is something I have experienced at very low end Mexican food journeys. Please consider other places before spending your money here there are many places you can go to to get a just average tasting taco

What a great spot for late night tacos. Perfect after a night of drinking, for sure! Authentic Mexican fare, no-nonsense staff, delicious results.

Ordered two quesadillas and nacho supreme for pick-up online. Friendly interface on the website A+. The food was also ready in two minutes, another A+. Inexpensive, good food A+. Really nothing bad about the places and the sauces are great too! My only suggestion is that for pick-up get your nachos with everything on the side. I had to pitch like half of them since they were soggy and soaked in all the fluids. Will definitely order again. PS. if you HAVE to have a pop with your mexican food (like me, out of a can & poured into a glass with ice, yes- the only way) then be aware the 7/11 across the road has the same prices, so you're not doing yourself a favor not getting one with your meal.

  • Steve M.

Extra-toasted flour tortillas on them burritos = crunchy outside to contrast that ooey gooey salty cheesy inside. Try one with steak and all the fixins, and then give that shit a salsa bath. You'll thank me.

    (3)
  • Mike S.

I don't know what happened, but my burrito only had meat, cheese and lettuce on it. I think he saw that I was hammered and figured I wouldn't notice if he didn't put anything on it. Very disappointed when I got home to eat my burrito!

  • David C.

Love their 2 taco with rice & beans lunch special. The price is right. The food is consistently fresh and flavorful. It's standard mexican fare-nothing unique. Portions are large enough to fill me up. Service is quick but I've only gone there for lunch in the late afternoon. There's never a wait. It's a small restaurant, nothing fancy. Just your typical hole in the wall Mexican joint. I'll keep going back.

I gotta parrot the sentiment that this place has the WORST delivery service in Lakeview. This hurts me to even write. I'm not a disgruntled first-time consumer. I'm a loyalist. I proudly flew my Taco & Burrito House flag. This was my recommendation for drunken late-night. This was my recommendation for a quick lunch. Taco & Burrito House was, in fact, "my jam." So much was this place my jam, that I was willing to overlook the uneven delivery times. I was willing to overlook the delivery drivers inability to ever use my buzzer (cell phone minutes ain't free, homey). I was even willing to overlook the sorta cold delivered food and the congealed cheese. But what I cannot overlook is blatantly rude and disrespectful behavior. The driver forgot my sodas and, upon returning with more, BERATED me and called me a liar. This dude literally accused me of trying to steal. I was livid. He almost made me act outside of my Christian upbringing. Instead, I told him where he could shove his Cokes and shut the door in his face. So congratulations, Taco and Burrito House. You've just lost my business and the business of those I regularly bring to your establishment over what comes out to about less than .75 cent in merchandise.

  • Laura B.

Please PLEASE listen to me. I once stored my keg (for the parade the next day) in the basement they share with the 2 establishments that share the building with them, whom I am friends with. They had big vats of cold, COOKED refried beans just sitting there, UNCOVERED and exposed to the elements down there. There was a sewage leak which drenched the cardboard boxes filled with tomatoes, avocados, and other vegetables, some rotting. Their basement was repulsive. I was told by the other businesses that this was not a one-time thing---THIS IS ALL THE TIME. Now, we won't even get Horchata there. It's a shame because we lived directly across the street for 3 years, and had been going there for awhile. But when we saw their stored food fermenting in the basement, rotting in water seepage and sewage, we were SHOCKED. We have warned our friends and neighbors ever since. If you drunkenly head into this place to eat (as it is between 2 bars), and wonder why you're puking when you get home or have diarrhea the next day? It's because you ate bad, rotting, greasy fermenting slop. I'm sorry for all of you that have eaten here, as I have. STOP, PLEASE!

The food is always good and they are open late! Bot only is the Mexican fare excellent, but they also have great cheese fries. Get the cheese fries, seriously.

Gross...the chicken taste like anything but chicken. What a waste of money and calories. Their food is by far the most disgusting crap I have ever had in my life.

  • Debbie F.

Fish tacos (tilapia) are indeed great, but personally, I think the beef ones are better. Their spinach quesadillas are as good as spinach pies; filled with fresh spinach and mozzarella cheese with a ratio of 50:50. Service is good, there was a mistake with my order once that they fixed apologetically and immediately.

After a certain time of night, East Lakeview becomes a ghost town and there aren't many options for when you're buzzed, coming home from the clubs, hungry, and in need of anti-ralph insurance (come to think of it, anti-Ralph insurance would come in handy too; I keed, my Dominican doppelganger). They're not doing anything too crazy here but they're not doing anything badly either -- which puts them above the rest of the nearby competition. Get the chicken burrito. The burritos are sorta grilled, so the tortilla is a little crispy. I like added texture to my food, so I enjoy that. If you like a softer tortilla, let the guys know. I also like to order sans sour cream and they're cool with that. You can get in and get out within a reasonable amount of time and even though these guys, undoubtedly, deal with way too many drunks to ever stay in a good mood, the customer service is good enough. Final price at around $5. Belly full. Buzz quenched. ralphing abated. Success. You can definitely do worse. No, really. You can. I have. Come here for some (sorta) late(er) night Mex-eat-an.

  • Jessie G.

Pretty good. Taco salad wasn't what I'm expected. I'm used to them having baked beans and rice at the bottom of the bowl - also no salsa with the order, so by the bottom of the meal it was lettuce. Lots and lots of wet, boring lettuce. Next time I'll know to order the other items on the side. Nice, quick service. Cheap. I'll definitely give them a second try.

Surprisingly quality Mexican food for the money. Not a lot of seating, but most of the business seems to be take out. Great late night food as long as you aren't expecting anything gourmet.

  • John G.

This is my go to place whenever I am in a compromised situation at 1am and really want food. This obviously is not the greatest Mexican restaurant in the world but it is always there, always delicious and always cheap. The staff there are great and I enjoy honing my spanish with them and they will help you find the right words if you are a bit rusty. This is definitely a drunken go to that will never disappoint, nor will the crowd around you in the early morning hours

Awesome late night or anytime for cheap on the go tacos. Everything is made fresh, in house, and is delish. The workers at Taco Burrito are amazing and must have an enormous amount of patience to put up with all the drunk shenanigans that go on there late night. For $1 and some change, you cant go wrong with any of the tacos- I'm a big fan of the avocado taco and chicken burrito. I'm gonna keep it clean (and not talk about sexy rollerblading late night style, what?- see previous) - a must have late night joint.

Steak fajita burrito. It's fucking awesome. I fantasize about this thing and plan when next I should have one. I had 3 burritos for 3 days straight.. it's sooooo good with the tomatillo sauce. That's how much I love these things. I pre-gamed with the steak fajita burrito before a night of official drinking- that's how I do it, I pre-game with food cuz I'm fat like that and then? I'm ready to go!! Throw it up later?? AS IF! That beautiful burrito stays in! I'm not so crazy about the tortilla being grilled but whateves. The burritos are about average size, I always get the large- not abnormally large or any larger than other burritos out there so it's pretty easy to conquer it all in one sitting. It's very satisfying when coming home tipsy and serves as the perfect goodnight kiss I say. The carne asada nachos don't dissapoint either. Not incredible but pretty good and hefty with melty cheese sauce and half of an avocado sliced on top. I asked for no lettuce on mine. Lettuce- what a waste. I don't claim to know what's authentic as I don't think they really aim to be since they serve burgers here but it didn't offend my taste buds and stomach so I think we're good here. I hate being offended via my mouth. It pisses me off. Another huge plus? there's no minimum for credit cards. Holla for a few dollars!

Best fish tacos this side of the Sea of Cortez! Guacamole pretty bland -- could use more onions and spices. Still, one of the best places to go when the urge for good, cheap tacos hits you. And the Dram House is right next door if you want a cold beer!

    (3)
  • Mikey B.

NOT a good hole in the wall. There was avocado skin in my guac. Um. What. The two different burritos we got were bland and really bad. The chicken fajita one was loaded up with limp grilled onions. The pork one was flavorless and the meat looked and tasted weird. The pork tamale had plastic wrap over it that had kind of melted into it. Sad. Stick with Buena Vista.

BLEECH. Must. Get. Intestines. Back. Into. Abdomen. Nasty, gritty little dump. Icky table cleanliness. No restroom for customers to wash our hands in. You get what you pay for here, but the prices, service and speed can't be beat. I'll face it: I didn't eat here because of their reputation, but places like these seem to fester in the East Lakeview neighborhood. Literally, there's a dumpy Mexican food dive every other block. it's just that this might possibly be the worst. I'm not going to rant for long. Suffice to say I thought my enchilada dinner was passable, and it's one of the few places that I might actually go back to once my colon calms down.

Loved my meal from this place!! I had the chile relleno dinner, and my friend had quesadillas. Our side of guacamole was delicious! Delivery time was accurate and delivery man was very polite. Will definitely be ordering from here again!

As far as cheap Mexican food where you get what you pay for, this place is the epitome of mediocre Mexican restaurants. I think my favorite food I've ever gotten here was the breakfast burritos they have here. They are a fairly good size and made very quickly. They also have horchata and some sort of pomegranate drink. I recommend the horchata, skip the pomegranate. They used to have a special for tamale's for $1 and they were a fantastic deal, but they've upped the price since then. Their nachos are also pretty good, they throw on a good amount of ground beef, guac, jalapenos, beans, and salsa. They have burgers, fries, and some other "Classic" American foods, but something about getting a burger at a Mexican joint doesn't appeal to me. Long story short, if you come here then get their breakfast burrito or any burrito, nachos, horchata, or tamales. Oh yeah, they also deliver.

long day at work, anxious to just get home, relax...but wait...what to do for dinner?? Walked by this place and decided some nachos sounded pretty good. I have walked by this place many times but never stopped in. I have to say I'm pretty satisfied with the nachos and the prices. The staff was very friendly, they prepared my food quickly, and the nachos tasted pretty darn good, and for the price, I got a lot of nachos. I ordered the vegetarian nachos and they loaded it up with everything, there was sour cream, cheese, guacamole, tomatoes, onions, lettuce, jalapeno peppers. Cost me just a little over 5 bucks with tax.....not too bad. I definitly would come back to this place, and I'm looking forward to checking out some of their other items....burritos, tacos, tortas, quesadillas, enchiladas....lots to pick from.

Chain? Yup! A bajillion of these joints throughout the city? Si! Do I love them anyway? Si, si, SI! I'm obsessed with their beef nacho supreme! Hellooo lotsa guacamole! For the first time today I tried the fajita burrito. Oh man! I can't decide if this is good or bad. The burrito was amazing! The bad part is it's so close to my apt and so not good for me. Love!

BIG, HUGE disclaimer: I really don't like Mexican food, so this review is based entirely on their guacamole. Their guac is AWESOME and incredibly inexpensive. Nearly every time I've ordered my $1.80 (okay, sometimes it's rung up as $1.50 or $1.75) small guac (sans chips), I've watched the guy behind the counter take avocados and make the thing fresh. It's nice knowing (a) it's fresh and (b) actually seeing the dude make the item for you. And have you seen the price of avocados in nearby grocery stores? Usually 70¢ or $1. You end up saving a bunch of cash by buying guac from this place (especially when other nearby Mexican places offer guac for several dollars more).

Excellent Mexican food (for the northside). Great hours. Great staff. Minus one because it's impossible to eat in if you need to. Overall, I'm a big fan!

Interesting little dive. Nothing fancy here. The pork burrito I had was happy diversion from your standard Mexican fare. Firstly, there is no rice, so if you're a carnivore you're going to love the extra meat. The meat is cooked on a flat top grill so there is a good sear to it and a flavorful bark with a little crunch. The seasoning is bold, but not overdone. In fact, I enjoyed it so much I didn't put any sauce on it at all. The tortilla is crisped on the flat top and there is a definite crunch without being overly dry. The moisture balance is definitely on the less sloppy side, but then it isn't loaded with runny refried beans or extra salsa. It isn't mind blowing, but if you have craving for cheap tasty Mexican, but want something a little different, this is your place.

Before this week, I would have given this place 3.5 stars. I had gotten takeout from this place a number of times before and the food was always fast and pretty good -- not spectacular, but good (though I prefer Chipotle to this place's tacos/burritos). This week, I discovered -- by accident, by asking my wife to "surprise me" when she and her friend went for food -- the magic which is.... FISH TACOS! I have eaten some of the best fish tacos ever in small towns on the Pacific Coast in Mexico, and while T&BH's fish tacos aren't quite up there with the best, they so far are the best I've experienced here in Chicago (I'm sure there are better, I just haven't been to those places yet). Anyway, my wife and I have eaten Fish Tacos from Taco & Burrito House 3 times so far this week, and planning to again tonight. We think they're THAT good.

I was pretty excited to finally live near carry out mexican food that wasn't Chipotle. Nothing against Chipotle, of course, I like it, but it's not mexican food. Anyways, I tried out this place. So far I've only tried the quesadilla and the nachos, but both were good, and very reasonable. The guys that work there are always friendly and get the orders right. I disagree that it's dirty. It's definitely not the most luxurious restaurant in the world (I wouldn't expect a taqueria to be?) but it's not dirty. It's just your typical light up board menu with a few tables, late night joint. And the food is good, that's what counts, right?

I've never had worse Mexican food before... the salsa tasted like someone left tomatoes in a jar of water and then blended it all up and pretended it was salsa. Only thing that wasn't disgusting was the Horchata, though even that was mediocre.

Ok so picture this: It's 3 am. You just had amazing sex with someone you met not too long ago and she left to go home. Your head is filled with great visions of the carousing that just happened and the exclamations the other person made about how sexy you are. You know that for whatever reason you may not ever see that person again but damn does it feel good right now! I don't mean that in a sarcastic or cynical way either - Seriously - for whatever short amount of time it was in this hectic and chaotic life of internet high-speed downloads; crazy divorce rates; famous people going broke, crazy-winning and punching each other in the face; wars over who knows what; the world's gonna end in 2012... Well you and another person were able to come together for a short time, put all that bullshit aside and really like each other enough to get a groove on! That, to me my friends, is a good thing. Our minds may fill later with all the pre-programmed guilt and regret, and some may feel, later on, like they did something wrong; or start to fear for the future; or wonder about if it was the right person, or the right time in your life; or maybe you have someone you really like but, DAMMIT, they are on the other end of the continent and they're not here; or whatever but that's not until the morning... But right now... Right Here: You want a burrito, and you want it NOW! You got a little buzz and your self esteem is at a peak because of how much fun you just had. But where at 3 o'clock, do you, Cassanova or Cleopatra, go to get a giant burrito? ... Let me actually get off track and say Burrito in Chicago, Cuban in Key West, a "Coney" in MI (what we refer to as a "Coney" is actually a diner - ALL of them in Michigan have Coneys). See Leo's Coney Island - by the way, in MI at 3-4am Leo's; of which you have on the Southport Corridor; is FILLED -every single table - with drunk people eating all sorts of food bad for you but Amazing after the bar. You have no idea. ... So you pop on your Rollerblades, Bike, Skateboard or sneakers and off you go out the door. You feel on top of the world, and you jet on down to Taco Burrito House - because it's that or 7-11. And that Burrito is HUGE and it's like 7 bucks and it's good - most of the time. The guacamole is good too - most of the time. And then there's other random stuff. But it's all pretty good, most of the time. I think it depends, because I have noticed some inconsistency with their guac, especially. Once it was like onion-city and pretty gross but almost every other time the guac is GOOD. I can safely say that I love their Burrito's and can't wait for it to get warm again so I can get back to Rollerblading in there at 2-4 am after a little playtime for a refill. Ya ya ya - great fish tacos. 3.5 rounded up. and I wear my rollerblades right inside and they haven't even looked at me funny. Can't wait for spring. One last secret for Mornings - Champurrado - They have it and my Mexican friend had some and he swears by it - It's like a hot chocolate that makes you FULL.

I looooove Mexican, and the rave reviews of this place made me want to give it a shot. First of all if you're going in there to eat, its not a sit down restaurant, its basically a watered down Chipotle. I got the chicken burrito, which was ok, not that flavorful, the chicken was dry and crunchy, and the lack of rice in a burrito which I have been accustomed to was a let down. I also got a side of guacamole, who can resist avocado goodness, and was also a little let down. The flavor was lacking and it was very blended almost too creamy. Ill give it another shot if Im around, otherwise I suggest walking down the street to Chipotle.

Caution the portions here are huge and they pile on the toppings. I got the beef nachos with beans, cheese and guac and they were huge! Two people could have eaten these and still had leftovers. I also got a side of chips with guac. If anyone knows me they know I hate soggy chips so this was a necessary purchase. However, the chips here stay really crunchy through almost the whole meal. Also they gave little 'ole me a cup of guac and this cup was enough to feed a table of 5 or 6 people! Also their medium drink is huge, it's probably a large at most other restaurants. Oh yeah and it's CHEAP! Let me say that again...CHEAP! Don't come here expecting gourmet food or a gourmet set up. It's not and it doesn't pretend to be. It's quick, it's fast, and it's cheap! Oh yeah and it's good! And one last disclaimer...I wasn't drunk when I ate here. Seems like it's a good drunk stopping spot but I went completely sober.

Needed: Cheap, decent Mexican food open late in Easy Lakeview. Enter Taco Burrito House. Met all of my needs, in fact was quite tasty minus the tortillas. I have been here several times now (not sober, but I do remember the food) and got the steak burrito and every time the tortilla is extremely dry. It even broke on me once, not cool when their burritos are quite big. But the cheese fries are A-MAZING! Better than the burrito I would say. The inside is not impressive, but this doesn't really bother me at 2 AM. The guys that work there also make up for the lacking ambiance; always polite and friendly. Definitely worth trying if your in the neighborhood and want some cheap, good, eats.

I lived in the neighborhood for two years before I ventured in here. I was afraid of it... afraid of... well, I don't really know. Anyways, finally, one fateful day maybe a year or two ago, I tried the fish tacos and loved it. It was juicy, flavorful, and cheap! I do find that these can be hit or miss depending on who's making it (and even if it's the same guy making it). It can be extra spicy, or too dry, or worse, lacking in cilantro/lime. However, I'm still a fan despite these setbacks. Recently, I've branched out to other offerings: huevos rancheros, chorizo con papas, horchata, and the guac with chips. I'd say all are all right. I enjoy this horchata more than the one from down the street at Janitzio.

I made an excursion to Lakeview today. I passed all these places I wanted to eat, but my craving was for fish tacos. I used to live down the street from this place but now I'm in the South Loop, Land of No Tacquerias :( So I crossed my fingers and hoped that they had the delicious fish tacos that I once had. Lucky me!!! FISH TACOS!! I was super excited when I ordered. I waited patiently while pretending to read stuff on my Blackberry. "miiiss. fish tacos," says the cook. YAY! They were ready super fast. I went to the counter and oooooh...it looked sooo....goooo.... HUH? oh wait!! why is one much smaller than the other one!??!? hrmph! One taco was perfect and the other was like the runt of the litter. It barely had any fish on it. I remember coming here before and they were really generous. That sucked. Well at least it was still tasty. Tasty little runt.

Disclaimer: I went here stone cold sober and took my tasty treats to go, after a long-fought battle of wits, waged by my tastebuds in the battlefield of my brain, as to whether I wanted a loaded Chicago-style dog with a funny, phallus-related thought-inducing place across the street, or Mexican. Mexican won, so I ended up here. Despite the reviews lauding the fish tacos, I can't get over the other-body-part thought-inducing properties of that particular item enough to try it, so I chickened out (ahem) and went with a small chicken burrito, a steak taco, a chorizo taco, and a small chips & guac. Yes, this was all for me. The burrito was really delicious, the best of the bunch. As others have noted the grilled outside of the tortilla is a nice touch, adding both flavor and texture. I will definitely get this item again. As for the tacos, they both come with tons of cheese and sour cream on them, an eventuality for which I was not prepared. Next time, I will ask for less or none, and see how they accommodate this, since I am not a huge fan of these. On the steak taco, though, it was fine, a good combination. The meat was tasty, not too tough, not dry at all. I would get the steak taco again, with fewer toppings. Note, though, that the cheese is the white, fat, shredded kind, rather than a crumbly white kind you find at many other Mexican spots. (Apologies for lack of appropriate cheese names, I can tell you 15 kinds of brie but I'm at a loss for terms here except "the shredded kind" and "the crumbly kind"). However, I was disappointed in the chorizo taco, in that my expectations were not met. The other place I have had chorizo tacos, El Taqueria Susupuato, which is way farther north on Broadway, prepares them in a simple way: chorizo, chopped white onion, and cilantro. With a little wedge of lime, so you can squeeze the juice on top for a hint of citrus flavor. This manner of preparation is AWESOME; so simple, so understated, but a well balanced combo. What I got from T&BH was not at all like the chorizo taco of my memory. Instead, it was basically a ground beef regular ol' taco except with mushy chorizo goop where ground beef might have been. Same heap of toppings as the steak taco. in fact I'm unable to really give it a considered review simply because it was not what I was expecting it to be like. It was OK. It was like a pork-flavored beef taco. I am not big on consuming pork products, so when I do go out on that snouty limb, I would like the experience to be delicious (and taste like, I don't know, sausage). I will not get this item again. Unless I'm feeling brave enough to ask them for just onions and cilantro on it. I would have given them 4 stars if it were not for this culinary failure. The chips were especially hard and not really salty. I can see how they would be good with the nachos, since they would probably take a while to get soggy, but as a lone chip, nothing too special. The guacamole was fresh and tasty, but could have stood to be a little spicier, for my asbestos-coated mouth. The tacos & burritos came with cups of red sauce and salsa verde, without asking, though, so I was able to get my spice on during the main meal. So, I know this was kind of a novel, and also that I'm one of the biggest gringettes you'll ever run across, but I suppose I have strong feelings about Mexican food. T&BH is cheap, pretty tasty, large portions (seriously, the small burrito was like a normal sized burrito), and convenient for me. It was also ready INSANELY FAST for carry out. Like probably 3 minutes or so. I'll probably end up here again at some point soon, unless the pendulum swings back and the hot dog part of my brain regains control, at which point you'll most likely find me at the Weiner's Circle getting my char on (since a "flubby" hot dog just conjures up the image of a floppy, boiled nightmare). Or I try one of the better-rated Mexican joints down the street.

This place has a lot of things I like in a everyday, neighborhood burrito joint. Its a hole-in-a-wall and does not aspire to be more. You can see your food being made in front of you and the guys cooking are super friendly. The older guy who is there half the time reminds me of an old Hawaiian guy I worked with in college. The prices are low and the take out bags feel heavy. What I don't like is the food (at least most of it). I gave this place a couple of chances. The nachos were soggy. The burritos were sloppy and falling apart and taste as poor as they looked (go across the street to Buena Vista for their mole burrito instead). However, the fish tacos are great. Only come here if you live within a 3 block radius (not worth more travel time). Get take out of 3 fish tacos (about $2 each). You will get double wrapped mixture of well seasoned tilapia, pico, and cilantro. Use the limes they give you and open a cold beer. You will be happy and full.

Your average mexican food joint. Torta was so-so, tacos were good. However, if you are a salsa connoisseur like myself....you have to mix their green salsa with the pico de gallo and wholah...an amazing creation is born! I have to say their chips were still WARM and not stale...yupee for places like this. The guac dip was above average too. I took a star away for the meat on the torta....I keep looking at it wondering if it was over-done or just old.

It was such a nice day out today so my friend and I had planned to meet up for lunch at the noodle place just up the street from here but because it was so nice out, we decided to go for a walk and window shop until we saw a place that looked good... and so i asked her, "Hey you like mexican food?" And she said, "sure" and so we went in... The place was empty... We ordered our food... The staff was nice... I got 2 carne asada tacos with beans and rice and an horchata... ... It hit the spot right? So i'm good...

I love this place. The food is actually pretty good for the price you pay. I love their steak nachos that comes with guacamole, beans, sour cream, mayo, and melt/ nacho cheese - amazing. The place open early and close late. If you are trying to find a place to eat after midnight, this is the place to go.

I love their chicken nachos here. BEST nachos in the area.. Chicken is freshly prepared, with generous portions of the hot peppers, sour cream, guac, it's SO GOOD!! Pretty good cheese fries too! Huge portions for cheap ( I think the nachos are around $6, and fries around $3) and they deliever too. They're open late night - perfect for the after bar cravings.

I had a hard time deciding what to get, even changed my mind once and the guys there were so super patient and nice . I have eaten here many, many times, and I feel compelled comment. The food is good and cheap, which is a great combination! I must admit that I have only tried the tacos and the huevos a la mexicana and huevos con papas y chorizo. The steak tacos are my favorite, and they're delicious so why try anything else, right? The huevos a la mexicana and huevos con papas y chorizo are perfect weekend breakfast choices. The horchata is good too. I love having this place in the neighborhood. They also provide a good delivery service and are open late.

Nachos - their carne asado nachos are awesome. I can eat them any time of the day and they do not skimp - instead, they pour on the refried beans, the yummy nachoey cheese that drips, lots of guacamole, tomato salsa, mozerella cheese and jalapeno peppers. DELISH and all for only $6.25 - one of the best deals in East Lakeview! The best part about them - they're open super late so their nachos are available for late night munching, too!

I like this place for price, decent takeout portions, and decent quality. The owners have changed more than once over the years, but the basics have remained- including good burritos and tacos, sizable large horchatas, and like I said, a good price for the neighborhood.

This place is the bomb (for a taco/burrito place). First of all, it is a great location (I can walk there). Number two, the food is fast, good and cheap. A "dinner" platter (steak fajitas/refried beans/rice) is $6. Okay... so their burritos aren't comparable to those that I have had in the Mission District in SF, but whatever... the food here is still good. Number three, they are open late, so that when you are totally hammered any night of the week, you can stumble on by and stuff you face (Chipotle closes by 11pm, I think). Number four, if you want to drink some more, you can bring your own. Yes, you can bring your own beer (Corona, Miller Lite, or whatever). They'll give you these big styrofoam cups so you pour your beer into them. They'll also give you fresh cut limes, too, upon request for your Coronas. Number five, they have cute Mexican decor with ceramic tiles on the walls and matching tables. There is a Latino music station playing in the background. Lastly, they have a Spanish-speaking staff. Everytime I go there with a friend (that is a female), they'll ALWAYS say to me, "Es tu novia?" And I'll respond with, "No... solamente es mi amiga." "Por que' no? Ella es muy buena." (giving me the look that the girl is really hot.) I love this place.

I love this this place. I came to Chicago for a little over a week before moving here and just popped into this place looking for a burrito. What I found was a burrito I would put in my top five, ever! I get a burrito at almost any Mexican place I stop into, looking for one this good. Over the extended week I stayed in Chicago, I had to go to this place 6 times and I still left the city wanting more. I moved to Chicago in August of 2008 and have made this great little place one of my regular spots for a meal I know I am going to love. They have such late hours, I dare you to try to catch them closed. The staff at Taco & Burrito House is always welcoming, even during the late night weekends when the after bar crowd rolls in and test even my patients. They work hard and fast to get your hot order in your hands. They never over rush or skimp on the toppings / fillings. When I am just looking for a quick lunch, late dinner, or just something to fill me up, I don't want to spend much money. Taco & Burrito House always has a special going on, but they don't need it with such a budget minded menu. You have to stop into one of these little places while you are out and about this summer. There are many imitators, but none of them do it like these guys.

This is the best Mexican food I have ever had. The guacamole was crazy fresh and the chicken fajita quesadilla dinner was out of the world. So somehow I managed to do a tour o' chicago the other night that started in wicker park and ended at trader todds to observe my friends boyfriend being cut off and refused service, upon which he took his shirt off and fell to the ground. Wierd. Oh well, it was my excuse to leave and i decided to walk home and as I stumbled home a beacon of light came to me and i decided to gorge myself on a burrito because I deserved it after walking home in my new five inch heels. I ordered the vegetarian nachos and a chicken burrito with extra cilantro. I came home to find my roommate half passed out on the couch with two hot pockets on her stomach. I woke her to have someone to talk to and offered her some of my spread. She said she wasnt hungry, but in the two minutes it took me to put pajamas on and grab a fork out of the kitchen, bitch ate all my nachos Blessing in disguise I must say. I took two bites of my burrito and was grossed out. The chicken meat was black. Not burnt, but really really dark wierd meat and the cilantro was mushy and slimy. We both passed out on the couch,(separate couches, we arent that creepy) I woke up feeling good and she woke up feeling like she just crawled out of a dumpster. Long story short, not even good when you've had too many drinks to blind you from the taste. Bummer. I need a good burrito place by my house. Edit: Last nite I stumbled in here again. It was much better. I got the steak nachos. I woke up in bed with them. I suppose that is better than waking up with someone I dont know.

Cheap and good. The Zacatecas burrito is delicious (Red Mole, chicken, etc.). I have been known to walk on icy sidewalks in the dead of a Chicago winter for their Zacatecas burrito and their Al Pastor tacos, yum! The prices are very reasonable. The staff is very nice and patient with indecisive patrons. The manager is a cool guy who has been known to hook up people with "chiles toreados," fried jalapenos that really pack a delicious punch. I gave this place 4 stars because I love the dishes I get here. **Oh yeah, for those of you from other parts of the country and the homeland, this place (like most Mexican restaurants in this neighborhood) doesn't automatically put cilantro and onions in your tacos. They normally put lettuce, etc. So if you want authentic, make sure to specify that you want cilantro, and/or onion and tomato on your tacos. I hear a lot of people head to this restaurant after a night of heavy drinking so keep that in mind when you read other people's reviews!

The huevos a la mexicana are like 4.99. Come on people! Huge portions, cheap, open late, really tasty. Simply put, great late night spot.

ew ew ew. I am from New Mexico, and am half Mexican, and therefore have very high standards for Mexican food. This place is gross. The only thing that it has going for it is that it is cheap as hell. The employees are also nice and creepy. This one worker was leering at me the entire time that I was eating there. Gross. Will never go back. The location further north on Broadway is just as bad. The food just has NO flavor.

I can't believe Taco & Burrito House is getting so many negative reviews. Well I wouldn't enjoy this place during the day, but it's my favorite late night joint. The burritos are amazing, but stick with the junior burrito because even that is huge.

About Taco Bell

Taco Bell is a haven for Mexican delicacies such as tacos, quesadillas, burritos, nachos, and other specialty items. Owned by Yum! Brands, Inc. Taco Bell is one of the fastest growing American chains of fast food restaurants. The restaurant operates from 7,072 different locations which are mostly run by independent franchisees and licensees.

The background story of Taco Bell is interesting and inspiring for budding entrepreneurs. The fast-food brand is the brainchild of Glen Bell, who started his first food venture as a hot dog seller in San Bernardino, California. The year was 1948. After witnessing long queues outside a Mexican restaurant called Mitla Café across the street, Bell saw the opportunity and demand for hard-shelled Tacos. He reverse-engineered the recipe and later started selling Tacos and called the venture Taco-Tia.

Later, the name changed from Taco-Tia to El Taco. Eventually, Glen Bell sold the company to his partner and opened the first Taco Bell in Downey in 1962. By 1964, the restaurant also got its first franchise in Torrance. The 100th Taco Bell restaurant was opened by 1965. PepsiCo acquired Taco Bell from Glen Bell in 1978 and the restaurant brand is currently a subsidiary of Yum! Brands which looks after the restaurant business of PepsiCo.
