I love this place!! A high school friend turned me on to this over ten years ago and the food is still great!! I love the fact they have remodeled and still have great food/service. I love the burritos, tacos, but my absolute favorites are the chimichangas and horchatas.

  • Bella D.

Get yourself some junior steak burritos and guac and chips to go! You will be chill for your cravings! I love this place, fresh and cheap! Open till 5am. Now this is the place for munchies! Nice staff and great tacos/burritos to fulfill your hunger!!

  • Erich B.

Great prices, great food, open crazy late. I have eaten there 50 times and was never let down. Real nice Staff too.

I would like to write 2 reviews of this place, one for the few times that I've been there stone sober, and one for the 4:30 am burrito. 2 stars for the former, 4 stars for the latter = 3 stars. The horchata is really good no matter what your state of mind is. The Jr. Chicken Burrito is the perfect amount of food after a long night out. Had the chimichanga recently when I was sober and it was very disappointing. Bottom line, if you are looking for food at 4 in the morning, this is a very good choice. If its 4 in the afternoon, you obviously have lots of better options nearby.

  • Nick H.

When I lived in the neighborhood, I never arrived here for pick up before my food was ready. I only lived four blocks away and eventually tried ordering right before I left. My food was still waiting for me. They have giant burritos, but I recommend the Chicken Flauta dinner. In my opinion it is the best in the city. Add the price and quality of food to their late hours and you get excellence.

  • Crystal N.

OH LAWD! I LOVE me some Taco & Burrito House Burritos!!!! And I should know, I've been going here since the age of 13...I'm now 35! :) The food is cheap, fresh, plentiful and they don't even charge for cheese like other taqurias do. The perfect after clubbing spot to get your eat on!

  • Joshua B.

A good late night dive when you are craving some greasy goodness. Used to go here all the time when I lived down the street.

    (4)
  • Meredith S.

Oh my god this place is hands down one of the best late night Mexican joints you can find in the city. I cannot leave this place without cheese all over one of my jacket sleeves. The cheese fries and chips/guacamole are to die for! When I lived near here quite some time ago, my roommate nicknamed one of the guys "Smiley Guy" because he was always so happy to see you, no matter how late at night it was. Whenever I have the extra cash in my pocket from a night out, am already nearby, or have someone with me that just wants some place awesome, we always go the Smiley Guy. I have never been proved wrong.

I love burritos but I most certainly do NOT love this burrito. This is one of the closest Mexican restaurants to me so I gave it a try. I got the standard carne asada burrito and there was not much flavor to it. No wait that's not true... I agree with another reviewer that the meat tasted like dog food. Yep. I also ordered cheese fries out of curiosity and I wish I didn't. The fries were soggy and weird, the cheese tasted like a bad nacho cheese. Bleagh no thanks.

  • Sasha R.

Good Orchata that wasn't overly sweet- 1 star. Nice guy at the counter- 1 star. My avocado tacos were so gross I had to throw them away- no more stars.

  • Keke D.

This was the first place I picked to review because I miss it soooo much!!! When I lived in Chicago (down the street from this place off Dakin) it was my fav! My now husband and I ate there at least 3 times a week! Fabulous homemade chips and guacamole, steak tacos, rice, tostados and my hubby's fav was the chorizo burrito...everything is fresh and made to order! We recently went back for our 1 year anniversary in October and found the same guy I remember is still working there and remembered me also!!!! Pretty funny since he didn't remember my boyfriend! Anyway, we told him we were visiting and our food was on the house!!!! These types of places are rare and I can't wait to eat there next time I'm in the windy city!

    (5)
  • Lucy G.

Best Guac in all of Chicago! I LOVE this place. Now when I say love... keep in mind its always 3 am and I'm trying to place my order in some varied kind of Spanish that to them probably sounds something like Russian. Despite that Jose and Juan always seem to get my order right. Friendly service. Cheap food. Open late. What more could you ask for? I have also eaten it sober once or twice, a risk I might not recommend but I may take again in the future!

    (4)
  • Heather K.

Perfect post-drinking caloric catastrophe. Mmm mmm MMMMM. One junior burrito does a hearty meal make, for $4. Comida is juicy and flavorful. Great for take-out; otherwise, you'll be sitting in what looks like a crowded yellow(ish) cafeteria with hard bench seats.

    (4)
  • Brandon Z.

Meh... it's food. I ate it and didn't die, but there's nothing terribly special about it. If I was really hungry and nothing within walking distance was open, I'd eat here again, but I'm certainly not going to go out of my way to eat here. The place could stand to be a little cleaner, but it's not like they have cockroaches running across the floor while you dine.

    (2)
  • Mike P.

Good late night spot for a burrito. Run of the mill joint, nothing too extraordinary. Beans and rice offered here are quite good for a take-out joint.

  • Kristen D.

I'm embarrassed to admit I have enjoyed this place more times sober than drunk. I guess it partially comes down to laziness. This place is right outside my back door. (Not for long, I'm moving next month, but to my delight I saw a second location farther down broadway right by my new place!!) Anyways, I had a few trial and errors with Taco and Burrito House before getting it right. I discovered I'm not a huge fan of the chicken burritos or enchilada's, just too much chicken that kind of gets gross after awhile. But then I discovered tacos, quesadillas, rice, and of course the guacamole! So good! I love that everything seems so fresh. One time I went in there just to get some guac to go with my dinner I was making at home because I couldn't find a decent, ripe avocado at the store, the guac was as fresh and as good as if I had made it at home. He went in the back and brought out this pan of guacamole that looked like something I would have at home and it seriously looked like they had just smashed up the avocados a few minutes ago. Love it! Oh and did I mention how cheap it is?! Certainly not a place for atmosphere, I think take out is the way to go. Workers are always super friendly. Overall, its good, cheap mexican, sober or drunk!

  • Jason R.

Best fast mexican food I've had yet in the city. Also, service is awesome! The guys behind the counter seem to really take pride in their food and they are serious about serving you quickly and efficiently. Every time you will have the EXACT amount of napkins, forks, and hot sauces included in your order. All around great experiences!

    (5)
  • joanne y.

my fave!!! i come here often when i am craving mexican food. we always order steak tacos and an order of guacamole and chips. the steak meat they use is seasoned to perfection and the guac is also something to drool about. this is definitely a late night, grab your food to go kinda place. the chips here are fan-tab-u-lous! sometimes, we will order some chips and nothing else. that's how good they are. parking is a pain so i would recommend you order via phone and pick up but i guess you can always try to find parking to dine in. there is metered parking in front of the restaurant but they seem to always be full in the evening.

    (5)
  • Katty D.

I've lived right around here just for a month, but I finally tried it! Eat their chimichangas, they're just like mini burritos. Friendly & quick service. Definitely my new drunken craving.

    (4)
  • Craig C.

Love their burritos for a late night craving, but the other things I've tried on the menu are merely okay.

  • Paul P.

I've been going to this place for 25 years! I remember many years ago when they were a couple of doors to the north (before they had a fire there) that was a real hole in the wall but even then people lined up out the sidewalk to oder late nite on weekends. It's still my Favorite Burrito joint... They are good, cheap, and the Outside is always nice and Crispy! Just how I like it. They come in two sizes too! I eat it like a hot dog and let the juice run down & out the bottom till I get to the soggy bottom. Ahh. My Fav. is to get half pork Half Steak That's Da bomb! (only available this way in the large size though.... I really like the guacamole too no cilantro that I can tell (I hate the stuff tastes like metal to me) and not to many onions as in many places... Other items on the fare are good as well, I even tried the beef tougue (slow cooked all day) very tender cept. I can't get past the idea of it to have it that often... They Have counter service, eat in or carry out. the place is small but always tables available and street parking usually. They have very late hours as well for the party crowd. The Place is always clean, and has a decent bathroom. I've had many burritos (my fav. Mex. Food except maybe Cemitas @ Cemitas Puebla on North ave.) all over the city and for my money these here are the best... enjoy.

    (5)
  • Franky D.

As a burrito lover, this place was thoroughly disappointing. Its not like I couldn't finish it bad (after all, it was a burrito), but I was unimpressed. The steak burrito was put together rather sloppy and the meat was dogfoodish. Although I'm sure it would be fine if I was drunk.

    (2)
  • Kat W.

I am no Mexican expert, but (1) relatively cheap (2) open late (2am on weekdays, 5am on weekends) (3) friendly staff, (4) food made to order-- EVEN tortilla chips (5)tasty salsas. enuff said.

    (4)
  • John S.

Friendly service, awesome tacos. Steak in the tacos is lean and has that perfect taste. Sour cream tastes super fresh, cheese is authentic, even the lettuce is bright green! Taco dinner is a GREAT VALUE. $5 for two generous tacos and fluffy rice and good beans?? Yes please.

    (5)
  • Sydney K.

The food here is average. I've only eaten at this location a couple of times, but both times my tortilla chips were a bit stale. The portions are big while the prices are cheap - always a bonus.

    (2)
  • Brittiney J.

NEVER FAILS!! This is my favorite taco spot in Chicago hands down. When I used to live by there I was there faithfully lol I started speaking Spanish when I'd go in ;) haha the cool thing is they know me by name so it's always good vibes. Taco dinner is my fav. Check them out if you ever get the chance. Drunk or sober it won't let you down

    (5)
  • Raul G.

Terrible! Insultingly unsavory. Steak was old. Chicken barely decent. First time ordering for delivery and it wasn't clear that the meat comes with nothing but a little lettuce. You must add every ingredient. So, since there was nothing to mask the terrible flavor of the meats, it was easier to develop and opinion. The lettuce was great though! Guacamole is ok. Nothing special. The pickled jalapeños and carrots were as old as the steak. Avoid this place - unless you're drunk and don't care.

    (1)
  • Kristen J.

What can I say? I have been coming here for years and they have NEVER failed. All I can say at this point is come check them out!

  • Ben A.

I try to visit neighborhood places as often as possible. With that said I've passed by this place numerous times and finally stopped in. I ordered the chimichanga dinner to go. Filled with steak and cheese and basically fried on the flat top. Dinner includes lettuce, tomato, sour cream, refried beans, rice, and drink. All for $7 and change. Large amount of food. Not the greatest quality as the chimichanga was somewhat saturated in oil.

    (3)
  • Evan L.

Definitely my go to Mexican place after midnight. They're fast and the meat is always cooked to perfection. The atmosphere isn't the best, but the quality rivals higher end places around the city. You really can't go wrong with anything on the menu, highly recommended.

    (5)
  • Andre W.

This place hit the spot as I needed some eats to soak up the heavy drinking I did last night. I wanted tacos, but saw the junior breakfast burrito would be better bang for my buck @ $3.75...tacos were $2.50 each and I wanted 3 lol Breakfast burrito as eggs, chorizo, potatoes and cheese....really good 1:30 am food! Im pretty sure it would be good if I got it @ 10am as well. They stay open until 5AM

    (4)
  • Bill D.

Just had chicken burrito and ended up tossing half of it. Loaded with gristle which was disgusting and had a pile of it along with rest of burrito I didn't eat. I wish I had been more patient and eaten at Chicken/Gryos place across the street.

    (2)
  • Michael R.

I really wanted this place to be good because it's very close to me and I love Mexican food. I walked in thinking to myself "Yes, these hole in the wall type Mexican places are always the best." I don't think I could have been more wrong. This place was horrible. The food is very cheap and is made with cheap ingredients. My chicken burrito looked to made with a meat that resembled chicken but certainly did not consistently look or taste like it. To provide a point of reference, I enjoy Taco Bell sober but especially so after a late night, and can tell you that this place makes Taco Bell look like gourmet Mexican. A bit harsh? Maybe. I would never go here again nor would I recommend it to anyone else...sober or not.

  • Matt P.

We came here as a last ditch effort to find some quick and easy takeout in Lakeview. The food was prepared quickly and the price was reasonable. We got the three cheese enchiladas and the tamales - each came with Spanish rice and beans, which were nothing special. The tamales were homemade but obviously frozen and then just thawed in their plastic wrapper to order. Overall the food was just average. So if just average is all you're looking for, check out Taco & Burrito House.

  • Wesley D.

Honestly this place isnt half bad, but it certainly isnt half good. I mean yeah when you've participated in three blunt rotations, have had one too many whiskey drinks, and are a little bit wired from that stuff you probably shouldn't have snorted over at Parliament, this place is pretty good at 4 am in the morning. In the famous word's of Billy Mays BUT WAIT. the caveat... try coming here sober. It's really not that great. When my girlfriend came to visit from Los Angeles, she thought this place was completely mediocre - which it is. The meat isn't exactly flavored to well, but hey it's cheap and open for your midnight drunchies. Overall, it gets the job done, but that steak burrito is no comparison to the wealth of good Mexican joints you can find in California. I miss California :(

    (3)
  • Kendrick W.

So I'm a sucker for just some good old fashioned, no thrills mexican food. This place is it. Sure you can go down the road a few blocks to some other establishments that will charge you $10 bucks for guacamole while they make it at your table and 15 bucks for enchiladas the size of a fruit roll-up, or you can come here. For $22 bucks we each got a giant sized dinner plate (enchiladas, burrito), 2 sides, and a drink, plus a huge appetizer of steak nachos. The best part was the fact that it's delicious. On top of that, it was even clean inside, so we stuck around and ate it there. Real latin music playing in the background, win!

    (4)
  • John J.

I found the tacos to be pretty terrible both times I went here. Maybe the other items are better, but I seriously doubt it. There are two Mexican places on Irving & Sheridan that are better. Go there instead.

    (2)
  • Joe S.

The food has been good, fast service and the guys behind the counter really take care of you. I recommend trying them out.

  • Dilaun W.

I am a steak taco connoisseur. I like them on corn tortillas, with steak, cilantro & onion. On top just a little salsa verde. I just wasn't satisfied here. I ordered 3 tacos and when I said just onion and cilantro the lady looked at Me like I was crazy. Then the sauce I got for the tacos did not taste quite right. I ate it because I paid for it but I think I'll be trying a different place for steak tacos from now on. Lots of people go here though late at night because it stays open really late and it's next to a bar.

    (2)
  • Calvin F.

This place is THE consummate Mexican experience. There are no words to describe how perfect this place is. "Bueno" does not even come close, but at least it's in the right language. If you stop by late at night, you might notice that it's popular with the drunk crowd. But that doesn't mean that this is just some processed garbage not suitable for consumption while sober; you'll never want to eat Taco Bell again after you come here. The menu is extensive, but there are some highlights. The grande nachos supreme is a religious experience... Mi Dios, I swear they must put something illegal in it. And the chorizo quesedilla is a bundle of oily, cheesy perfection for just a couple bucks.

    (5)
  • Matt A.

I stopped by this place last night for a quick dinner with a friend. I ordered the taco dinner, which included 2 tacos with ground beef, rice and beans. I was very impressed with how soft, yet crispy the corn shells were on the tacos. It really hit the spot for my Mexican food craving. I was also really impressed with the price; the dinner was very cheap and really authentic tasting. I'll definitely be back!

  • Hannah J.

This place is five stars for what it is-- a delicious burrito in the middle of the night, not a fancy sit-down mexican place. I have only had the burritos and horchata, but they are both incredible. The burritos are flavorful and the portions are huge. The prices can't be beat. The staff is super friendly. If I could I would go every time I was out late in this neighborhood.

    (5)
  • Kayla F.

Best nachos nearby hands down. I always get the steak nachos and they are always delicious. Perfect spot for necessary hangover food or if you're still out and need a bite. I have ate here sober and it's still amazingly delicious. Very inexpensive and filling. However they do accept cards but with a minimum $8-10 charge (I forget how much it was) otherwise A+

  • Jon O.

I stopped in and had the large chicken burrito with rice and beans. It was pretty good but not as big of a serving as I'd hoped. The rice was actually delicious and if I could I would have just had a large bowl of that instead. The beans were your normal Mexican refried beans so nothing to write home about.... The place is just kind of a hole in the wall and seating is minimal from what I could tell. They were very very fast with the order. I came in before the dinner rush, if there even is one here, and the cook was eavesdropping on my order and threw it in before the guy even had it rung up. I also had some horchata which was good but tasted a lot like the pre-made stuff. I'd probably hit this place again if you're in the area and wanted some cheap fast mexican food but I doubt I'll make a special trip back.

Talk about a diamond in the rough. Love the place! The meal is authentic, well priced and comes with great service. Definitely going back.

This is the best place for anytime food...the service is just as amazing as the food! I'm hooked!

  • William K.

Get the bean burrito and chips... You're welcome! All the food is really good, but I have decided to make this my 'regular'. Really good prices and pretty quick service. The salsa is just spicy enough and the portions are great!

There are tons of Mexican restaurants in Chicagoland area. It's really hard to stand out among so many. I would have to say this is my favorite Mexican restaurant in Chicago! I haven't lived in Chicago in more than 7 yrs and every time I go back to visit I stop for tacos. I love everything about this place. The guacamole is very addicting.

    (5)
  • Alesha B.

Amazing food! They make it really fast and it's super cheap! I always get the two taco dinner and add chips and salsa! Really good flavors and the staff if very nice! My only complaint is I wish they had a hot sauce that was a little less hot. Other than that I totally recommend this place to anyone wanting Mexican food!!

    (5)
  • Samia G.

This place is gross , the food even grosser !!! The salsa is so disgusting it's suppose to be salsa not a hot sauce . One last thing please use plastic gloves don't use your hands .

If you're stumbling out of a bar and looking for some greasy food, this is definitely the place. Unfortunately, I was the designated driver with all my taste buds intact and can really taste just plain greazy food. I ordered the chimichanga (small little deep fried steak and cheese burrito) it was tasty but was so oily! I had 3 or 4 napkins around it trying to soak up the oil and it still pour out all over my hands - so I ordered 4 more to take home to the Ps so they'd get off my back for coming home so late, yea, I'm not 16 anymore - go to bed! I don't even live with you! I also ordered the fajita steak burrito. It was falling apart. It was tasty just really wet. The wrap was melting. Maybe I should of just ordered the fish tacos which were winking at me or just a regular burrito. What the hell am I doing eating so much food at 4am anyway? Not sure, I really love Mexican food to not want stuff that is so greasy. In any case, the guys there are very nice, it's fast, cheap and will definitely hit the spot before sunrise. I would suggest something not as heavy as my "snack" - friends were raving about the steak tacos and the chips and guac. Afterthought: The horchata was refreshing after a long night of dancing.

Best Mexican food outside of southern California! I understand San Diego Mexican food is slightly different, but it is what I prefer. The only knock on this place is that the delivery area is limited (I'm downtown). The carne asada burrito (which is the classic go-to choice) is delicious. It's best without the extra lettuce, beans, and tomatoes they usually put in--a good burrito should just have carne asada and guac stuffed to the gills. Either way, the meat is good quality (read: not rubbery) so this place has my vote.

This place is totally underrated! The fish tacos, especially, are the best I've ever had! The guys who work there are very nice and know what I'm going to order as soon as I walk in the door. Although it isn't always comfortable eating at the place (no A/C), the food makes it worth it. This location is by far the BEST of the many many many other locations throughout Chicago. I even tried the one further into Lakeview and it was very disappointing. This is my go-to place for quick, inexpensive, delicious Mexican food in the city! By the way, the information is wrong in that it is NOT in Edgewater. It's about 2.5 miles from Edgewater. It is roughly on the boarder of Lakeview and Buena Park. The map is even wrong!

came here with some friends after the gay parade & it was pretty busy, which was expected. however i didnt expect for them 2 lose mine & my friends order & we had to wait over 20 minutes 2 get our food. the only reason we got our food was because my friend asked them what was taking so long with our order & they said they lost our order. really!?! anyway, after we waited forever 4 our food i was quite hungry. i was so disappointed cuz the 2 steak tacos i ordered was not that flavorful. ive definitely had better tacos. maybe it was cuz there were so may orders & they were rushing in making all the food but i wasnt impressed at all. theres a ton of restaurants in this area so i can go try 1 of those than come back to this one.

I've noticed in the past year the food here has gone down a notch. I don't know what happened but some nights they must have a different cook? Today I had a long day so I was looking forward to the steak fajita burrito jr. which haven't had in a while. Unfortunately it was one of their off nights. Admittedly they were busy, but it had almost no flavor, and was not cooked correctly. The steak?? was not seared, the fajita was not browned, way too much cheese, too runny, no hot sauce, and a strange flavor. This has happened several times in the past year now. I called to complain and the employee said "oh sorry" and that's it. Well so am I because if I'd received just a little better customer service you would not be reading this! Every great once in a while I like to drop in there, but what happened to this place??

Best taco dinner - fresh, hot, and delicious food. Love the several salsas they make-yum! Very nice staff take good care of customers. Nice neighborhood place I like to frequent.

Veg burritos were really tasty and cheap. The meal came out of kitchen pretty fast and the workers were nice and helpful. My only complaint was that my burrito became very soggy very quickly.

Piss poor faux Mexican! They put lettuce, tomato, and cheese on their tacos for God's sake. The chorizo is quite possibly the worst I've ever had. Waste of time and money.

When you don't feel like going to the Taco and Burrito Palace down on Halstead, this Taco & Burrito House is a good alternative. This is a great place to go to if you have been drinking and need some good mexican food to soak up that alcohol and sober up before going home.

Great late-night post-bar food, or really just late-night food in general if you are hungry at 3AM on a Saturday night. I'd give it 3 stars for food, but it gets 4 stars for being open so late. It's cheap. It's fast. Decent food. Interesting and entertaining mix of people. I had the carne asada tacos... I liked the tortillas a lot and the tacos were pretty big. Salsa verda was not bad. It was $5.25 for 2 tacos (that come with cheese and sour cream) and way too much rice and beans. Good deal! Not the best Mexican in the city, but way better than some taquerias I have been to... it definitely serves its purpose.

I eat their nachos WAY TOO OFTEN. Sometimes you need some greasy, dirty, Mexican food. And I mean that in the best possible way.

    (3)
  • Jeanette S.

I'm not going to lie. There are tons of Mexican food restaurants much better than this one. It was terribly greasy and ordinary tasting. Nothing spectacular nothing memorable. I really don't care if the spot listed incorrectly. Skip this place entirely if you stumble upon it.

I looked this place on Yelp very late at night owing to the fact that i was the only one still functional enough to operate a computer...but not functional enough to walk out of my building to find something, and behold Taco Burrito House. I want to first say thank you to Taco Burrito House and chitownmenus.com for making me look like a super hero and finding an open place at that late hour and for delivering so promptly. The food was great, hot when it arrived and not slathered down with condiments as seems to happen with some places. Also we got free delivery for ordering on Chitownmenus.com . The pastor burrito was perfectly spicy and everything else within those beautiful white tortilla folds tasted fresh as if it had been made minutes earlier. This place has a magical power...the power to make an apartment full of drunk people completely silent while we were chowing down on sweet late night mexican, i will be ordering again....

It's nothing it isn't advertising itself to be (the place is called the Taco & Burrito House, after all). I get the nachos because it's a big, delicious pile of ingredients that are comfort food to the extreme. Like a big guacamole covered hug.

You have to be drunk to like this place. For latenite drunkard food, not bad. When you are sober, well that's another story. The portions are nice, but the taste will make you wish they were smaller. Stay away from the beef tongue here, unless you want to burp it up the next day. For any who had eaten good beef tongue knows that it is one of the most delicious parts of the cow. Not here, usually tongue in Mexican restaurants are done with a green tomatio sauce, here they use a red tomato sauce that runs down your burrito looking all greasy. For the amount of Taco places in this city, you can find better.

Whenever I'm in the neighborhood and end up at this place- I always wish it was the Taco and Burrito house on Fullerton and Ashland. This place is more expensive and doesn't have the same meal deals. However, the steak nachos are quite tasty- they put A LOT of cheese on them. And they have a respectable horchata.

    (3)
  • Jessa P.

Dear TBH, your flautas are amazing. Always hits the spot. I have tried a fair amount of flautas, and yours is still the best. Thank you for all you do...

    (5)
  • Dane K.

This is a regular haunt of mine... Their steak tacos are very good. Their steak nachos w/ everything come w/ a nasty yellow cheese... BUT you can ask for white cheese... ask and you shall receive. If you get them w/ the melted white cheese the steak nachos are quite delicious. Not quite allende, but a good second place. Flautas are pre-made and available only in chicken... I really didn't have high expectations for them, but I tried them once... and that was enough. They were edible, but nowhere near as good as anything else. Horchata is good. The guy who takes your order is on top of things, he is alwayyyys there I think! They're very friendly for all the late night drunkenness they have to deal with!

    (4)
  • Rick F.

Lower your expectations, or be really drunk, when you come here, and you will not be disappointed. Most of what is offered is good, if pretty unremarkable, for a quick-bite kinda place. Go for something other than a burrito, especially if huge is what you're into. Im not, and found the burrito to be rather smallish. My pick is the chorizo and potato torta (for less than 4 bucks, a bargain). Good bread and mysterious sweetness to balance a slight heat. My roommate described, accurately, my tamale as "rubbery." Service is adequate. Long story short, you aren't gonna pay much, so don't expect much.

I have tried most of the dishes on their short menu and found them to be authentic Mexican food, usually tasting very good. Today I tried the Mayan Chimy. It turned out to be a burrito with sour cream and guac topping, with sides of fluffy yellow Mexican rice and creamy refrieds. My Chimy contained spicy chorizo, cubed potatoes, stringy yellow cheese, onions and other yummy ingredients. It was satisfying but not a bell ringer. For the budget minded, this place gives out large portions (the steak nachos, for example) and that may be the reason it attracts some scary looking people during late hours. For food I give it 4 stars. Service 5 stars. Tidyness 3 stars. Bathroom 1 star. As I was leaving, a CTA driver jogged past me and hollered at the server, "I hope you ain't got the ladies' washroom locked." See what I mean?

Yummy! I love me some Taco and Burrito House. They know my order by heart, 3 chicken tacos with avocado, sour cream and cheese. This is a small chain restaurant in Chicago, the atmosphere is basically a hole in the wall style joint. However, the food is really good. It's sad to say but I think I eat here at least 3 times a week. I contribute that to the fact that its right around my apartment, makes it a convenient stop to pick up dinner on the way home. If you are around the area and need a Mexican food fix I highly recommend Taco & Burrito House. The service is quick and friendly and the food is delicious.

Horchata so good I thought I was back in South Texas: 5 stars A taqueria that prices itself like a taqueria: 5 stars Flavorless salsas: 1 star (for effort) Avocado tacos that were too lettuce-heavy (that both are green does not trick me): 2 stars Line out the door on a stormy night: exclamation point Pandemonium at the counter: 2 stars Somehow getting our order right: 5 stars Beans and rice that I loved but my dining companions did not : eff them, 5 stars Being handed extra free drink cups after requesting salsa verde: 4 stars and a question mark

I was spoiled by living in Pilsen for a long time before moving up to Lakeview, but even taking into account that I judge Chicago's Mexican joints agaist the best in the city, this place is just bad. The first time the young man and I got food here we ordered in. We only live about four blocks away (it was raining, we were having a lazy night in); the food arrived an hour and a half later, congealed and ice cold. The other night, having developed a yen for burritos walking home from a show in Uptown, we decided to give it another shot. We should have turned around as soon as we walked in: the restaurant itself was filthy (and I have a pretty high tolerance for filth). We got our food to go and walked home. The young man liked his nachos okay, but my vegetarian burrito was about as bland and tasteless as they come, even after I smothered it in red sauce. The tomatoes were grainy, the lettuce was floppy, and the beans were just gross. Never again.

I looked this place up, thinking I'd update the review I'd surely written, and found I've been remiss in not giving it the good review it deserves. I've visited at most any time of the day and night and there's always at least a couple of other people in there. The food is consistently good and the guys that work there are pretty cool. Some items can be pretty greasy, but this doesn't pretend to be diet food. The chips and guacamole are a favorite of ours, though admittedly the size of the portion and quality of the guac have dipped a little bit recently. The chips are, as far as I can tell, made fresh in the store and served warm. You can literally fill yourself up here for about $4 or less.

Great spot for tacos and burritos. Their chips are great, not too greasy and just enough salt. The Guac is legit and the cheese dip? It's addictive. Consider yourself warned!

I don't know what happened...but I fell in love with this place today. The tacos were outstanding, the pico de gallo was spicy and delicious, the tostada was superb. The place could use a bit of a clean sweep, esp the garbage cans but since I usually get take out here....I really don't care. Plus, they are open so late that my drunken friends and I always have a late night food joint.

Delicious fish tacos! I have been here a couple times now and kept going back for the value and for the service (and the fact that they use McDonalds napkins--no waste restaurant; I like that). However, I was most recently blown away by the tacos. Previously, I had tried the tamales and a chicken burrito (which are good), but went out on a limb with their fish tacos and was very impressed--simple grilled tilapia with pico de gallo and cilantro; perfect.

  • Zack R.

First the service is great and you are always greeted very friendly smile. The food is good, but nothing special and they're open late which is good. The problem is there are better options in the area for mexican food. Taco & burrito palace, and even a nice sit down across the way in el mariachi. I have never had anything on the menu I specifically didn't like, but nothing really blew me away. Try the chicken burrito.

While I'm rarely here at 4 in the morning these days, it's a comfort knowing I could be. This is staple taco joint for this life long Chicagoan and I remember back in the day when it really was a hole in the wall just two storefronts to the north. They've survived because they are GOOD. The tacos are outstanding, the quesadillas are sweet greasy heaven and the Orchata is the perfect cutter for any spicy dishes you might eat. An added bonus---phone your order in on your way there- and your meal will be waiting for you upon your arrival. You can do this at any hour. (I must confess I've had that phone # committed to memory for 15 + years. Seriously.)

I don't remember how foods are at this place when I ate there a couple times but I love the reasonable price for their drinks.. Back when I was living in the area, I constantly go there to get 3 or 4 large cups of Horchata for me and my family almost every week! I loved their low price! They recently went up but still, lower than most restaurants that charged ridiculously outrageous prices for Horchata drink. Now that I don't live in this area, I miss this place!

If you are looking for a great Mexican food dive, look no further! This place looks like a hole-in-the-wall, so I wouldn't recommend it for a first date, but it is amazing cuisine! The four stars are for the large portions, extra-decent taste, cheap prices and semi-convenient location. Near Irving Park and Broadway it is easily accessible to buses and trains. It is open super late (at least until 4am if not 5am) which is extremely positive. A quick note...food tastes up to a 5 star level when not completely sober

Its pretty good, pretty good. I like their burritos de lengua even tho they are a bit juicy. The horchatas are very good too, and luckily the fellas recognize the bean i got deep in my heart cuz they always give me some hot sauce while ignoring the other whiteys! But for real this place is pretty good and pretty cheap.

Got some burritos and chicken tacos from this place, and they were pretty good. Nothing that stood out, but nothing that I can point to that's wrong with any of it. We enjoyed the food from here, and would go back if we had the chance and were strolling by.

Right around the corner from me, and it delivers, but nothing beats Taco Burrito Palace (#2 or #3) for me! The tacos take a *slight* second place--they have that sort of potato taste Some people love it in their Mexican food--I am not one of them. Sorry guys, 4 stars.

Adios, Chipotle! This is the place for burritos. I've had the regular and the fajita burritos here, and good lord, you might not be able to eat for 24 hours afterwards. These burriots are long and filling, to say the least. I haven't tried any other thing on the menu, which is why I won't give it the full five stars, but if burritos are what you are after, here is the place. Plus, they give you two little jars of sauce to put in that burrito down the road as you are eating. Who can complain about that? Once you've eaten here, forget about Chipotle. And after you've had a burrito here, that won't be hard to do.

I love their tacos. They're the best Mexican restaurant of their type (quick and casual) in the area.

OK. OMG. WOW. I love this place. Now, let me just let you know that I have never been here sober, but I have been here many times drunk and its AWESOME. Their nachos are simple, plain, and good. Their avacado tacos, are exactly that, but awesome. Now, the best part, their steak taco, or steak something, just try it all. I order their steak stuff all the time and its great. The only reason I love this place is the price. I can feed a small garrison for under $50 bucks. That means I can gorge myself for $5, so very cheap. Just try it.

    (5)
  • Keri H.

i have to admit it....i love this place late night...and sometimes when i am sober. Best when you are drunk and you don't care about the toxins you are about to devour. When I go there late night, I vaguely remember ordering nachoes, burritos and quesadillas. I remember loving the nachos the next day....but don't get the meat. That is all I am saying. However...i have gone sober to pick up some guac and chips when i am too lazy to make my own. They are pretty good. I swear by eating this after a late night of drinking. As I am going to bed I regret it but when I don't wake up with a hangover...well it is then I consider in investing in one of these chains!

    (3)
  • Adam M.

The food is great for the price. It may not be the most flavorful or best Mexican food ever but its tasty, cheap, and convenient. They are open late and have pretty fast deliver. My favorite so far are the pastor tacos. I ask for cilantro on it with lime slices on the side, its awesome. There steak burritos are decent as well.

About Taco Bell

Taco Bell is a haven for Mexican delicacies such as tacos, quesadillas, burritos, nachos, and other specialty items. Owned by Yum! Brands, Inc. Taco Bell is one of the fastest growing American chains of fast food restaurants. The restaurant operates from 7,072 different locations which are mostly run by independent franchisees and licensees.

The background story of Taco Bell is interesting and inspiring for budding entrepreneurs. The fast-food brand is the brainchild of Glen Bell, who started his first food venture as a hot dog seller in San Bernardino, California. The year was 1948. After witnessing long queues outside a Mexican restaurant called Mitla Café across the street, Bell saw the opportunity and demand for hard-shelled Tacos. He reverse-engineered the recipe and later started selling Tacos and called the venture Taco-Tia.

Later, the name changed from Taco-Tia to El Taco. Eventually, Glen Bell sold the company to his partner and opened the first Taco Bell in Downey in 1962. By 1964, the restaurant also got its first franchise in Torrance. The 100th Taco Bell restaurant was opened by 1965. PepsiCo acquired Taco Bell from Glen Bell in 1978 and the restaurant brand is currently a subsidiary of Yum! Brands which looks after the restaurant business of PepsiCo.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
