Very solid Thai restaurant, the menu is really varied. I had the Crab Rangoon and the Chicken entree. I know that's sounds strange, but it is literally on the menu as "Chicken". It was a delicious Chicken, noodle, and bean sprout dish in a sweet broth. It reminded me very much of Japanese Udon, and I don't know if there is an actual Thai equivalent. The Crab Rangoon was very fresh, in fact I had to let it sit and cool for a while to allow the oil to dry. My only complaint is that this took so long, my entree had arrived before I could easily eat them. However, once they cooled, they were delicious. The sweet and sour sauce that came with them was superb! The waitresses kept my water glass full and were very helpful excellent service!

We've eaten here at least 15 times, so this review is long overdue. We originally tried Tac Quick because it is in the neighborhood and was recommended to us by neighbors, but we go back all the time because the food and service are consistently exceptional. My husband makes it a point to order something different almost every time we go, and he has never had a meal that he didn't like. I tend to revisit my old favorites (pad woon sen and khao soy among others) and everything is great. Definitely try the Thai beef jerky - one of the most surprising and delicious items on the menu. There is so much variety on the menu, but that doesn't seem to affect the quality. We've done take-out and dine-in and the service is efficient and reliable each time. Love this place and will be back soon!

I attribute the extra 30 pounds I've gained since moving to Chicago to Thai Food so I know what I'm talking about. I've probably been to at least 50 different Thai restaurants, and that is a conservative estimate. This place is by far my favorite. There are various different Thai restaurants that have good curry but their noodles suck or they have good crab rangoon and noodles but their curry sucks but this place does everything extremely well. The only thing I've had that I didn't like was some sort of beef salad, but even then I felt like the ingredients were high quality and that I had just ordered the wrong thing. All of their curries and noodles I've had are amazing and on top of that, they present the food in a very appetizing way like expensive restaurants do, and almost all of their entrees are under $10! They also have outdoor seating and it's BYOB!

where'd the spice go? i dunno! while i appreciate a clean modern interior, a nice plate presentation and reasonable prices on top of being byob; none of these things compensate for a severe lack of spice. i shouldn't be able to pick up an entire jalapeño and pop it in my mouth without breakin' a sweat. i'm not a masochist, well maybe i am, but i need to feel the burn. i can't really say anything negative about tac quick aside from that one little thing. a few of the menu items were a little different than your run of the mill thai; the masaman beef (curry w/ sweet potato), tod mun and pork neck all had great flavor and super tasty sauces. most of the menu though is filled with staple items that you will see most anywhere, apparently there is a special menu that has all the 'real thai' items; i'll be sure to ask for that one next time.

This place has become a favorite delivery place of mine. The food is very good. I am a connoisseur of Pad Thai and I rate there's as one of the best in Chicago. The delivery is always early and courteous. If you love Thai, try Tac Quick.

I went there with my friends , we order Lad-Na .. and some noodle soup.. The noodle soup was cold when the waitress serve us.. We tried to tell her warm it up , but she gave me strange looked.. Lad Na pork we ordered too salty and have a funky taste.. uhhh Yukk can't imagine that.. They should hire more servers.. for better service...

Had the Clams in Chili Sauce and the Lard Nar. Both were very good, but you get spoiled living in walking distance to Opart and Spoon. The food was fresh and had good taste, it just didn't quite hold up flavorwise to the two previously mentioned restaurants. After the Western Thai restaurants, I highly recommend TAC.

Once you get past the slightly off-putting name, this place is a gem. Both the standard Amercian-Thai dishes and the more authentic Thai stuff from the so-called "secret" menu are delicious, and considering the location (Lakeview, land of overpriced yuppie joints) and the decor (a definite effort was made to be elegant and upscale-casual), the prices are phenomenally good. (By the way, this place is an excellent choice for a pre- or post-game meal for Cubs fans. The Sheridan El stop is a worthy alternative to the throngs at the Addison station in general, and a nice meal at TAC Quick will pass the time while the mob disperses.)

So I'm sitting here, mentally kicking myself for having lived a reasonable distance from this place for more than a year and not having visited... until last night. We were all set to walk to one of the old reliables in our neighborhood and decided to try something new... which was closed. So we kept walking to try a different place we'd never been before... which was closed. So we did some more walking and skipped over one place that looked like a before segment on the BBC's "Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares" and stopped, slipped on the ice, and took a look at Tac Quick's menu posted on the front window. Next thing I knew we were seated and I was trying to make a decision out of numerous really, really tasty-looking options on the menu. I ran with beef panang, something I haven't had in a while, and it wound up being the best I think I've ever had. My princess had cashew beef, which was great as well. If I were slightly less refined than I am, I would have been tempted to pick up the plate and drink the sweet, spicy sauce right off the corner of the plate. And then my princess would have smashed the plate over my head. But that's not the point. The point is I didn't do it but the whole meal was just terrific... full of flavor. Which leads me to the crab rangoon we had as an appetizer- easily the best I've ever had. There's a great mixture of flavors in there not found at other restaurants that just push these over the top. We'll be back.

I love this place. My ex-roommate used to live around the corner, and she and I would spend many a meal here. The place has expanded since those days, so it is much easier to get a seat, which is definitely a bonus. The food here is real quality food for a very reasonable price, and, in the many, many times I have eaten here, I have never had a bad meal. Also, it's BYO and right under under the red line, so it's about as close to perfect as it can get.

I've had some mixed experiences with Tac Quick, but it's still worth checking out if you're in the area. The spicy basil rolls are fantastic (mini Thai egg rolls with beef and basil), and everything is very, very fresh. My only real complaint has been that, as with other Thai restaurants, when you request things to be very spicy, the actual spice level can vary. The last time I ordered from them, the wait for delivery was ridiculously long, the food was almost floating in soy sauce, and it wasn't anywhere near my idea of spicy Thai food. I'd eat at the actual restaurant again, but I'll never order from them. Ever.

I just got some delicious fast take out from here and cannot wait to eat in the restaurant. It is wonderful. The Pad See Eiw beats any I have had from other area take out places.

I love tac quick!!! my fiance and i go there twice a week most weeks and have never been disappointed. They recently started charging a corkage fee ($1...big deal), but we are still obsessed with this place! the crab ragoon is pure happiness! i normally get the basil dish with tofu, and it is nice and spicy, but also full of flavor. i don't like when a dish is just hot, but no flavor going along with it, but this hits the spot every time!

Honestly, lately I've been thinking this is the best everday Thai food place in the city. You have Arun's for a special occasion and there are a gazillion othe Thai places in the city that are good. I love Chicago for Thai food. You should really check this place out though, because it's tops among a great competitive set. Start with the crazy good Larb Kai salad, feeds 2-3 for a salad course and is spicy, acidic heaven. You could also go with the pork and rice sausages to start. Then move to the panang noodles. Seriously, this may be my single favorite Thai dish on the planet (crispy, spicy, perfect). The beef noodles rock too. Two notes: 1) TAC serves its food spicier than other Thai restaurants I've been to. Ok by me, but if you like mild make sure you ask for it. 2) Skip the peanut sauce noodles...a little on the bland side.

The older Tac was better with bigger portions but this is still pretty good - the lad nar is probably one of the best that I've had and here's a tip - request the Thai menu for more authentic food including the one with the preserved egg - yum! My friend just updated me with her favorite dish - it's called kr-phrao krwp khi yiaw ma which is deep-fried holy basil with minced chicken, stir-fried and served over preserved eggs - and it's something out of this world! Oh, yeah - they're BYOB AND they deliver - how great is that?

What started out as a modest storefront has turned into an expanded, trendy Thai dining digs. TAC has been hidden under the Red line Sheridan El-stop for a few years now. I remember upon first moving to Chicago, TAC was featured in one of the first metromix reviews I had read. The draw: reasonable prices (appetizers - $4-$6), salads ($5-7), entrees ($6-9). Fave dishes include: wonton soup noodles, nam nuang - a great do-it-yourself spring roll appetizer, and the jungle curry. The service is better than what you get at most Thai restaurants. The people are nice, the atmosphere is clean. Some people are bothered by the portion sizes, but I think Chicago being one of the fattest cities, we really should be thanking TAC. The SECRET Thai menu: I had read metromix's article about secret Thai menus in the Chicagoland area, but I never thought to order from TAC's secret menu until last night. Fortunately, someone took the time to translate the menu and make it accessible to all of us non-Thai folk. silapaahaan.com/menus.ht… I thoroughly enjoyed my dish (the beef noodle soup with meatballs) and I think that everyone should give it a go.

I used to live around the corner from Tac Quick and often ordered pick up from there. Of course I always order pad thai with tofu and it was good. Not as good as my favorite but pretty. good. I went there with my friend and her toddler and the kid surprisingly loved pad thai. They are also very quick!

oh tac, how i love thee. =) IMPORTANT: if you go here, you have to ask for the "other" menu. forgot all the names of the dishes, so i'll try my best. i apologize ahead of time. started wtih beef spring rolls. so so good. really hard to wrap them yourself cuz the skins are so delicate, but it's worth it. the beef is so tasty. crispy on the outside, flavorful on the inside. ate family style: omelet pad thai with glass noodles. eggs and glass noodles? delicious. then i think it was a basil chicken. really flavorful. roast pork with hardboiled eggs and last a sort of fried rice dish that u mixed together yourself. sorry i can't remember the names, but it was all amazing. i'm sure if u order anything else from that menu it'd be great. yum yum and yum. i almost didn't want to give it a good review cuz i don't want it to get really busy. i want it all to myself! but i decided to be nice and share the goodness. enjoy!

Ok, so this is my first yelp. In fact, this is the first time I have ever gone onto a website to add positive comments. I almost don't want to share this with people, because I want this place to be my own little secret. However, you need to eat here. It's BYOB, like most Thai places, so that keeps it cheap. Ask for the "thai or secret menu." It's not that secret anymore, but they don't give it to you unless you get it. We had the crab rangoon...good as it is everywhere. The spring rolls were uniquely delicious. We had some sort of appetizer off the thai menu that was rice wraps, with pork rolls, mint, and veggies. It was fun to assumble and tasted great. For dinner, we had peanut curry...it was like eating noodles in a milky soup of peanuts. Imagine that you have a bowl of golden grahams for cereal and slurp up that honey basted milk at the end. Well ,the peanut curry tasted like peanut flavorted milky golden graham leftover cereal.

I have heard about TAC Quick for, like forever...so Saturday night we made the extra effort to drive all the way. We did ask for the "Thai Menu" and while it was pretty good, I got the special Tom Yum Soup, and my husband got the Pad Thai. I think we would go back here if we were in the hood craving Thai. Don't think we would make the extra effort again.

I know that dining is the whole experience. The service was HORRIBLE, the room was stuffy and hot, and it took forever to get the food to come out. But when it did, woooweee, was it scrumptious. Everything was so good. And our bill came out to (drumroll please) to $68 bucks for SEVEN people. This includes tax and tip. Can you freaking believe that!? Yippy skippy to cheap eats. I heart TAC!

  • Peggy K.

Tac Quick is cool...with patio seating. Food is good enough to come back (a little bit on the sweet side...though). I like Goong Op Woonsen ..aromatic baked glass noodle.. and Kao Ka Moo(Stewed pork on rice) which is well done. Music they play in the room is like techno rap from wannabe bands. So, true to the name, things are fast and quick here.

Oh, Crispy On Choy, my lovely, delicious friend... Had I not stuffed myself with TAC Quick's exceptional crab rangoon (I know, I know - CR is NOT Thai. Got it, thanks.), I might have finished all of you and licked the plate clean of your sweet, zingy sauce. You are fantastic. And so is TAC. The Isaan sausages are terrific and pack such lively flavors and textures--it's just fun to eat. The crab rangoon, as I said, is a tasty treat and we already established that I'm in love with crispy on choy. Water spinach, you have my heart... The service at TAC was on point, friendly and knowledgeable. We had Erik M.'s translated secret Thai menu in hand when we arrived at dinner (thank you, Erik!), but we actually ended up just chatting with our server, talking about flavors we like and then taking her suggestions on what to order. Only downside to that is I don't know the names of everything we had! Crispy on choy, check. Beef panang, check. Duck panang, too, complete with perfectly cooked, succulent slices of duck breast--like buttah. And a soup dish, tangy and spicy with Thai omelets and pork, perhaps? I don't even know, but Dustin was enamored with it. Add to all the wonderful food your own alcoholic beverage of choice, welcomed without a corkage fee, throw in a little Madonna, some Kelly Clarkson and a boy band or two (pretty hilarious stuff, actually) and you've got all the makings of a fantastic dinner in a comfortable, convenient setting. I am dreaming of heading back as soon as possible for some green curry (my most favorite), which I imagine will be seductively spicy and like velvet on the tongue. Mmm, dreamy...

Nice, cheap Thai food. It's a BYOB place, so if you're looking to save some cash on alcohol, this is a nice option. The service is quick and friendly. The atmosphere is kind of young, and not too comfortable.

My all time favorite Thai restaurant in Chicago. I grew up in Bangkok so I'm very picky about Thai food tasting authentic. This place does not disappoint. And yes, there is a secret Thai menu. The beef rice noodle soup is so good I feel like I'm back in Thailand. BTW, unless you're eating noodles, skip the chopsticks! Use a spoon (to put food in your mouth) and fork (just to push food onto the spoon) and you'll be mistaken for a local. ;)

I tried this place out for the first time and initially stayed away from the special menu because it was so heavily meat based. The person I went with had heard of the special menu and encouraged me to seek vegetarian substitutions off the menu so I would be able the experience the restaurant's best. Im glad I asked because the waitress said they made anything vegetarian upon request. I orded the green curry dish over an omelet with veggies and it was just about the best thai dish i have ever had. When the bill came i was suprised to see it was only 26 dollars for the two of us. I will defiantly be back!

Very good, decently priced. The spring rolls are really good, and the Pad Thai is about as good as anyplace else I've ever had it and it's BYOB. Good place to go with friends, outside seating in the summer.

Love this place! The best shrimp dumpling I have ever had. It is reasonably priced and within walking distance from home. Eat from here at least once every two weeks. They are super fast for carry out orders. I also enjoy the Pad See Elw and the fried rice.

  • Aly H.

This is definitely the best Thai place in Chicago hands down! If you order off of the special menu you can't go wrong . The service is always hit or miss and the ambiance isn't the greatest but the food is the main reason I love this place.

Mob run?? Avoid this place at all cost. I went here on a Friday night with a few friends--the service was horrible. I was immediately seated and forgotten about. We waited at least 15 minutes for a glass of water and had to track someone down to place our order. We waited another 15 minutes and our appetizer never showed up--we weren't there much longer. While sitting there minding our own business two plain clothes police officers came in and talked to one of the workers. A few minutes later the police officers left for a few minutes and came back in--one now had his shirt un-tucked and over his gun and handcuffs. He then came up to our table and asked why we were giving his younger cousin a hard time. We had no idea what he was talking about as we had been sitting there waiting for our appetizers and dinner. Needless to say after the mob like experience we decided we should take off and head to Vongs. When we walked out someone had stopped us and asked what happened inside--apparently he saw us getting harassed by the police officer. He went on to say how horrible of a time he had in there. Whens the last time you got harassed by the police and had someone stop you outside the restaurant to tell you how bad the service was?

Good food and good prices. Cool atmosphere as well. Pad Thai was great, however apparently I need to ask for the other menu to experience true Pad Thai. This place is great in summer as they have a nice outdoor seating space. Be adventurous and try some of the seafood- you won't be displeased

  • Bill L.

I always thought thai was pretty boring until I tried this place. Be in the know and ask for the 'Thai Menu'. Almost everything on the Thai Menu is nothing you've ever seen at any other Thai restaurant and nothing that you can pronounce either. The Thai menu has short descriptions of what's in the dishes. If you're not adventurous don't even bother with this menu, stick with chicken satay (great peanut sauce) and the noodles in brown sauce. If you are adventurous be prepared for some tasty cuisine. The pork ball appetizer and ground chicken with preserved egg are my favorites. Be careful asking for your food spicy. They have the hottest peppers and will add a ton of them if you ask for your dishes spicy.

  • Ravi B.

If you like Thai, then you can't go wrong with this place. A friend recommended it to me, and it has never disappointed. For standard Chicago Thai, it measures up with the best--pad thai's, curries, etc.. BUT, if you want to expand your horizons a bit, TAC offers up a special Thai menu that most other restaurants don't. The preserved egg dish, and the isetan (sp?) sausage appetizers are very unique--and very tasty. Take a ride on the redline, and give this place a shot.

This place has a great New/Asian atmosphere, that goes well with their cuisine. The pad thai is pretty good, and the presentation is excellent! I've tried several of their appetizers and all have been tasty.

I was very happy with the food and atmosphere. One of the top Thai restaurants in Chicago in my opinion. The restaurant is right near the train station; very convenient.

I came here with a coworker who deemed this the best Thai restaurant in the city and saying that it's the most authentic. We ordered off the Thai menu which are considered the restaurant's specials. It was very good, and I liked it a lot. I remembered it being good that first time, I was going to try out the Pad Thai. I like to order dishes that are authentic to the culture that other restaurants have as well because it's considered a staple to me. It's like you know you could have it at any Thai restaurant, but one in particular makes it the best. I have to say I wasn't really impressed with the Pad Thai at all, therefore, it couldn't be the best Thai restaurant. If you like trying out unique Thai dishes this is a great place to come to. There are quite a few Thai restaurants within a few blocks radius next to Wrigley Field, and this one is the best one if you want Thai food before the game. Trust me, I have lived around the area, and I have walked and eaten!

I'm no connoisseur of Thai food, but this is pretty good by my standards. I also like their frozen drinks/ teas. It's nice to have another close dinner option in this neck of the woods (north of Wrigley).

Some of the best Thai in Chicago! Clean, friendly staff, and most importantly, outstanding authentic Thai cuisine. Try the curry dish served on an omelet.

This is probably the most authentic Thai restaurant I have been to. (Granted, I have never been to Thailand so I guess I should say, as I would imagine authentic Thai food to be like.) You have to ask for the Thai menu to get the "real" stuff. Both times I have gone here, I have been adventurous. That means, I have ordered things that a. look interesting or b. that i would never order anywhere else. For instance, the last time I went we ordered thousand year old egg with pork and fried basil. Lemme tell you... it was interesting. First off, it was super spicy. (Even as a mild... but most things there are pretty spicy.) And, if you haven't had a thousand year old egg before, then you are in for a big surprise if you order it! It is black on the outside and the yolk is grey--and the flavor is like... hmmm... the only word that comes to mind is metal? Regardless, the dish was a pleasant change to what you can usually find in Thai restaurants. Another time I went there and had this chicken dish with rice that had AMAZING rice... yes, you read it right... the rice was so good and flavorful with the chicken broth. So, if you are feeling adventurous and want to try something different--in a good way--you should try Tac Quick.

Great food - my girlfriend and I love the tofu satay - though service is really really slow if you eat in.

yeah, it is shocking to see an authentic thai place (with sticky rice) in the middle of white world (of lakeview). very pleasant.

We tried this thai place when we first moved here and liked it so much we haven't tried many other thai restaurants in the city. Fresh ingredients, well-balanced flavors, good selection, nice presentation, and best of all, not heavy or greasy like other thai places can be. Fairly quick and efficient service. BYOB. Slightly more expensive than other thai places but totally worth it. Great takeout.

I love this place. I am a simple food eater. I am very picky about my shrimp fried rice and this is the best I had in the city.

For Thai food, Chicago has so many places to choose from, and in my neighborhood (wrigleyville) I gotta say Tac Quick is the best. Their Tom Kha soup is my favorite, big slice or galangal at the bottom...love it. All the noodle dishes are prepared just right, very fresh, perfect amount of sauce. The only thing i have to say, is that at the back corner of the restaurant, there is a strange smell ... almost like a wet dog, but subtle. Maybe they could get that taken care of. as for the food, love it. great.

This place rocks. Located right by the Sheridan "L" stop, it's one of the best deals around. 5 bucks for Chicken pad thai, spring rolls and a drink for lunch. Love it. They recently renovated the place so now it's even bigger.

TAC Quick was awesome! I went with a group of friends, and we were armed with the secret Thai menu from LTH Forums. We had studied it and compared it to the one that they handed us and made our choices, as well as ordered one of the specials. I definitely tried things that I normally would have known about, but I didn't regret any of it (except for maybe biting into that little piece of crab). The moo ping was delicious, especially with the sticky rice. The papaya salad was a little too spicy for my taste, but others enjoyed it. We ordered the crispy on choy, and a couple of other things that I don't remember exactly, but they were good. Also, the pad thai omelet was really nice. To top it all off, we ordered the fresh mango and sticky rice. One of the quickest ways to my heart! We had reservations for a Friday night, and it was empty when we got there, but it filled up fast, so make sure you call ahead or prepare to wait.

definitely makes my list of great thai in chicago. i was really happy with the quality of food and the variety on the menu. the flavors are really subtle, so you get to taste the sweet, spicy, salty deliciousness that makes thai food so yummy. also is byob, which always makes for a more enjoyable meal. will be back for lots more.

When I first moved to the neighborhood 3 years ago this restaurant was awesome. The quality of the food the last two times I ate there (I picked up take out) made me stop going. I ordered a green curry and by the time I walked home (5 minutes) the curry had separated and coated in about an inch of oil. I don't think a curry should have that much oil in it - perhaps they were trying to save $$ by using less coconut milk and more oil. I think the Asian Mix Grill on Broadway is much better.

Alas, did I trust my fellow yelpers too readily and too eagerly? But then again, in this day and age, who else can you trust? The fact that I'm writing this review should reflect that I still have faith and a certain amount of optimism in the possibility that one may distill certain truths from anonymous online opinions. oops, forgot that I'm not writing a sociology paper. right, on to the food. Appetizer: crispy fried chicken (from Thai menu)- $7 :::::: A very nice and simple dish. piping hot, crispy skin, a beautiful deep golden color, and none of that messy batter business. The flavor was straight on, not too salty or too bland. This was my first impression, but the trouble started when we moved on from the wing and the leg to the chicken breast. The tenderness and the flavor of the meat plunged into the abyss of mediocrity. I have had tenderer and and juicier chicken breast, I know it can be done, and I expected it to be done from a restaurants with such a reputation as TAC. But how sad, the stubborn blandness and the steel-cord texture of chicken breast prevails again over another worthy opponent. Entree A: Squid curry with coconut milk and jalapeno - $9 :::::: Once again, I shall start on a good note. The flavoring of this dish was very pleasing. A green curry (not too wet), subtle and sweet, but alas, no heat! The waitress had explicitly said that if I preferred spicy I should go for this one, but for all the jalapenos, not a tad of spiciness. Nonetheless, I did enjoy the flavor very much, despite the shift from spiciness to sweetness. The squid was also tender, easy on the jaws and a very pleasant to chew, no rubbery-ness at all, but if it was just a tiny tiny tiny bit more tender, I would give another star for that great pleasure. My only other complaint is that the pieces of squid were slightly on the large side, not what I'd consider bite size, but after asking for a knife: problem solved. It seems a small matter, but the chopping and the size of each ingredient is very particular in Asian cooking, and it does heavily impact the flavor, the texture, and the enjoyment of each bite. However, overall, I was relatively happy with this dish. Entree B: Pad Sieu w/ chicken -$7-8? :::::: Uh oh, I see chicken again. My friend ordered this one (believe me, I recommended beef, but she would listen...no). Nonetheless, I consider her somewhat of a pad sieu connoisseur as she has ordered this dish at least once at every Thai restaurant she's been to, which is far from a few. I could tell by her expression upon the first taste that this was not going to to cut it. chew, chew, pause, and a casual "I've had better" from her seals the deal. Oh, the noodles were fine, not too clammy or too stuck together, but the curse of the chicken returns. The white strips of fraying muscle unmade the dish, with the dry texture of a twisted rope, and bland beyond bland besides. well, that wraps it up for that. Alright, despite criticism for the food, it was not an unpleasant meal, sitting outside with the temperature under 80F, blue sky, white clouds, and my dearest fellow gourmand by my side, life is good. TAC has a good atmosphere, and with a good friend, I'll be willing give it another chance.

This place is relatively new and serves good Thai standards for a reasonable price. If you like your food spicy, make sure to let them know - otherwise it lacks the kick that Thai food is known for. They serve a good Thai iced coffee, a favorite beverage of mine.

BEST Thai place in the city. Make sure to check out the specials chalkboard and ask for the Thai menu. Highly recommend roti with beef karee, crispy onchoy, thai fried chicken, duck with egg noodle soup, pork with rice noodle soup, and red-braised pork hock (for the adventurous). Items on the regular menu are great as well. One of the best deals in the city for quality/price.

With a myriad of Thai noodle shops available in the city, I'd skip Tac Quick. Food is okay, a bit lacking in flavor for what I'd normally expect for Thai. I have tried it twice - once before the recent expansion and once afterwards because I'd really like to see places succeed in this neighborhood. Still wasn't impressed the second time and the service was horrible. We waited for nearly 45 minutes for our food and my husband's water glass was empty for 20 minutes. My Thai noodle business will go to Cozy Noodles & Rice.

Writing a review for TAC Quick is a lot easier than deciding how many stars to give it. I've probably eaten here like ten times, roughly split between each menu. Both are priced very well for the quality of the food, though often you're not going to get as much in quantity compared to a similar entree elsewhere. I'd recommend getting an appetizer or two, in fact. The chalkboard specials are always intriguing, but the entire Thai menu is like one huge list of specials. As has been said many times, the regular menu isn't really the reason to try this place, though the Tom Yum is really good, especially if you're feeling a bit congested. Everything tastes very fresh, which is a step towards authenticity a lot of Thai places don't take. There's a liquor store a few doors down with a pretty good wine and beer selection, which helps when you forget the place is BYOB. Everything adds up to a pretty solid four-star review, but then there's the service. I don't want to give the place three stars just because the service is bad, but I definitely considered it. The waitstaff can be that curt, they will take that long to bring you your check that sometimes you don't even want to deal with it. Where they seat you is sometimes mystifying - with at least three other four-person tables open, why are we sitting next to the door? It's tough for me to get too worked up about service because it's pretty immaterial in the context of good food, so the fact I mentioned it means it can be pretty bad.

I have finally found a favorite Thai restaurant in Chicago. Coming from the bay area, I have been sorely disappointed for awhile, but Tac Quick Kitchen is fantastic. A key factor to a successful dining experience is to ask for the Thai menu, which is full of authentic thai food (don't even tell me that crab rangoon is real thai food). We share the duck (red curry), which surprised me by having bits of pineapple and grapes...unexpected but surprisingly delicious. Also, a favorite was the omelette filled with pad thai noodles. We also shared the pork skewer appetizer (from the regular menu, but the waitress assured us that it was actually authentic thai) - which was tender and perfectly seasoned. Thai iced teas also hit the spot. I can't wait to go back and try out some more!

Such a bummer. I just received take out from here it is all cold. Seriously, cold and not good. Such a bummer since I live about two blocks from here. I guess you could reason that I could get off the couch and eat in (which is basically what the girl on the phone suggested when I called to complain). She didn't offer to give me my money back OR deliver new food. However, she was nice enough to suggest I come in to eat. No thanks. Done here.

this mightve been the first day for the delivery guy... ordered 2 soups (tom yum), 2 apps (crab rangoon and pot stickers), and an entree (panang curry)--one of the soups was fine, while the other was half in the bag and half in the tupperware (not a good start); so we all started eating our food and everything was either mushy or tasteless.. **and dont order the pot stickers cuz these ppl dont know what pot stickers are food didnt sit well for the 2 out of the 3 of us...not a good sign. still havent found a decent thai place in the chi, help!!!

I really like the food, amazing Thai. No complaints about that. I've had several issues with delivery and menu descriptions though. It is frustrating when someone's meal is missing. The online menu descriptions are also a little too sparse: we didn't know one of the dishes had mushroom and my girlfriend is allergic to mushroom.

I was apprehensive coming here at first, because every time I passed Tac Quick on my way home from the Sheridan red line during the week, it was always nearly empty. I found out this is because the majority of people order takeout from here during the week, and it gets packed during the weekends. Saw this place on Check Please, and my friends recommended it. Amazing green curry and pad thai, also their BBQ pork skewers are making me drool as I type this. BYOB so that's always a plus. Saw a girl at another table order a Thai iced tea, looked delicious and very pretty, will definitely order next time. VERY reasonably priced, my friend and I were shocked at how affordable our meal was when we received the bill. Friendly staff, and you can score opentable points here.

I love Thai food and this place was really good. I ordered Pad Thai Kung Sod Haw Khai from the secret menu. It's basically shrimp pad thai folded into an omelet. What makes it different is that it's made with glass noodles. The portion is huge! I could only eat half. I really liked the twist on the traditional pad thai and would gladly order it again. Tac Quick is also BYOB - they charge a fee of $1/person. I recommend coming here for affordable, delicious Thai food.

First off, I HATE giving this place 3-stars because the food was incredible, great atmosphere, and reasonable prices really make it a great spot. Honestly probably the best Thai food I've had in Chicago. It's conveniently located right by the Sheridan stop on the red line. I came here on a Friday night with a friend around 7:30pm and we were able to find seating right away. This place is also BYOB which is fantastic. We brought in our bottle of wine, were seated right away (this place is decent size) and we waited after we put in our order to get wine glasses & a corkscrew for the wine. We kept waiting and waiting just to drink our wine. Honestly, after at least 30 minutes my friend went himself and got a corkscrew & wine glasses from the bar because we wanted to drink. And it really isn't the fault of the waitress because this place was severely understaffed for a Friday night. Everyone was waiting, I'm not sure if a couple people didn't show up to work but they really need to hire more servers. These girls were hustling but still a lot of people were getting impatient. This restaurant is pretty big and I think I counted 2 servers. That's a problem. After about an hour and a half our food finally came out, we had ordered the crab ragoons as an appetizer (which were amazing) but they came out at the exact same time as our entrees. Would have loved to have this before the main dishes came out when we were starving. The food itself was great, I had the spicy basil fried rice with chicken and it was spicy, was loaded with chicken, and had great flavor. This place has a great selection of dishes to choose from; curry, noodle dishes, etc. You could never get bored with this menu. Also the prices are extremely reasonable for the quantity & quality of food you receive. If not for the waiting & lack of staff, this restaurant deserves 5 stars. Hopefully will make it back soon to give it another go.

Not bad, but I've had better. One star came off for the lack of air conditioning. They had one fan and luckily we got a table right in front of it. They have two menus, one is their regular while the other is a "secret" menu which comes with the first so I don't really get that. Again, the food wasn't bad but I wound up giving my leftovers to a bum. I got the sweet and sour chicken, which is primarily a vegetable dish with just a little chicken added. The sauce was syrupy, and they wrapped my leftovers in a Styrofoam box which promptly spilled the sauce everywhere. If you live nearby, and need some Thai, definitely check it out, but I wouldn't go out of my way for it.

Holy Cow, my dish (the black menu and with lime sauce) was so hot I was on fire!!! I avoided the red hot chilies and managed to enjoy this dish a lot despite having to drink copious amounts of water. The mint in it was refreshing and added wonderful flavor as it partnered with the lime sauce beautifully. Next time I'd order it again - without the chilis if possible! John enjoyed his wanton soup and enjoyed every spoon full. We liked the atmosphere and options for inside or outside seating. You can also BYOB if desired.

Been going here for 5+ years, but the quality of food has gone down over the past year or so. Ordered the chive dumplings, fried chicken, beef jerky, and egg rolls for delivery today. The food arrived really quick, but everything was bland, mushy and greasy. So disappointing, as this had been one of our go-to Thai places (other than Mom's kitchen!) for so long :( Time to find a replacement....

Service: 5 stars Food: -fried pork, fried rice: 5 stars -moo ping (pork barbecue skewers): 5 stars -Fried pork with basil leaves (spicy - has jalapeño): 4 stars. Taste is good but a bit too salt and it doesn't have much basil... And this is a pretty objective observation, not like I'm a basil-nut. Has tons of pork, which is reat, just need a tad bit more basil then it's be perfect!!! I will have to try custard next time they have it available. TIP: finish food while it's fresh - doesn't taste good as left overs.

One of the best Thai places in the city. Pros: Cheap, Good, Authentic, BYOB, Never too packed. Cons: None. nothing, whatsoever. Skip the "regular" menu, you can find generic Americanized Thai food anywhere. The "Secret" menu is where they shine. For non Thais, the menu will probably overwhelm you. Be adventurous and just try anything there. Some of my favorites are probably the fried fish with spicy mango salad on top and the deep fried vegetables with a side spicy salad. I don't think I've paid more than $20 there for an excellent dinner.

I came to this place two years ago for a quick dinner and just HAD to come back this vacation time. I even texted my friend who had introduced me to Tac Quick about what dishes to order. The service isn't extraordinary - very reflective of most Asian establishments but the food made up for the lack of service. I ordered the Khao Soi which is a rich spicy curry soup topped with pickled mustard, cabbage, onions, a lime and egg noodles. My mouth is watering as I describe this dish! The flavors all came together in this rich sweet, sour and spicy taste. My friend ordered the Yen Ta Fo which is the pink soup with seafood and silky noodles. She loved the flavors as well. I'm so glad I stopped by this time around and I am definitely looking forward to the next time I come back!

At first glance, I was almost certain that I would walk away with a nonplussed look on my face. Basil beef rolls. Panang curry chicken. Banana with sticky rice. Thai iced tea. If you think the mini egg rolls at Thai restaurants are good, you only need to taste the basil beef rolls at Tac Quick to know that delicious really is all about. For those who love panang curry, the curry comes in a thick gravy rather than in a thin sauce. It is incredible. My favourite new dessert for the year is the banana with sticky rice. Outstanding. I don't care about ambience and decor, but I do pay attention to service. The service at Tac Quick makes it a place I will frequent, for sure.

I went to tac quick last night with my girl. This had been on my list for a long while due to a friend recommendation and their connection to Andy's thai kitchen which I love. I hadn't been on it because I live so close to Andy's but we were in an adventurous mood. We tried the crab rangoons and spicy basil rolls. I didn't care for the rangoons and the spicy basil rolls were just ok to me. She liked them tho. She also got the Tom Kha soup which I had never had before and it really was delicious. For entrees I got the peanut curry noodle entree and she got the panang noodle. They were both really good. I wanted to try a lot of items from the "secret menu" which is no secret you don't even have to ask for it. It's BYOB. Totally budget friendly. The ambiance is very nice for a date. Mood lighting and very quick attentive service.

Awesome all around Great service Great food BYOB- although they told us no hard liquor. I had the pad see ew which was delicious. My friend had something else that was equally delicious. Their gyoza was perfect as was the crab rangoon. We ordered two appetizers and two dinners for $33- awesome deal. Especially considering we lingered for awhile chatting and drinking our bottle of white wine without interruption or being rushed. Eat here.

Went there and had an awesome meal with a friend (minus the fried tofu). Had chicken satay and shrimp pad Thai. Sadly later that night and the next day I had horrible food poisoning. Didn't eat anything else that day besides a power bar, so it had to be this Place. I really enjoyed their food the 4 times I went there, but I will not be going back.

Tac Quick is our top spot for both a local date night as well as some lazy take out. Their prices are reasonable and portions large, so be prepared for some leftovers. Although the secret menu is hardly secret, I've found my favorite dishes to be exclusively from that side of the menu. Also BYOB, so don't forget your drinks!

I really like Tac Quick, and according to a Thai friend of mine, it's very authentic. I loved the Moo Ping pork skewers (amazing flavor and very juicy), Panang Noodles (so delicious) and Basil Fried Rice (love that it has shrimp and chicken, pineapple and lots of veggies. Lots of flavor). The Kai Tod chicken was tasty but a little dry. I also like the Ba Mee Pad. Looking forward to trying the Kao Soy. They don't give you utensils/napkins if you order carry out or delivery. I always forget to ask and get stuck somewhere with no utensils!

TAC had been my go-to Thai restaurant for the past 6 years but recently the quality of the food has gone downhill. Tonight we ordered my favorite dish Praking Pork (pork in a red curry sauce on their special menu). The food was almost inedible it was so salty. Not the normal flavor. This isn't the first time I've been disappointed recently. I wonder if they have a new chef.

I order frequently from here, but will never again after my last order. Three entrees and two appetizers were damaged by a leaking container of Sweet and Sour Chicken that scalded us in the process of unpacking the order. We called to complain and were told that the delivery driver would return to our address to refund our money and pick up the spoiled food, which never happened. Promises to have the manager call us also went unfulfilled. Opart Thai is a much better place than this joint. Never again.

So with a plethora of Thai Restaurants in the area, I finally decided to give Tac Quick a try based on the strength of the reviews. Let me first say that I ordered from there online and felt like their was no noticeable difference and that the portion was small. All of that changed however upon eating there last night. The ambience: It was a lot nicer, some might even say swanky inside that most thai restaurants I've been too. They also have a nice outdoor area, but since they're right next to the Sheridan redline, the noise is something to consider. The food: The food was amazing. I quickly gave up my opinion that they were no better than the rest, starting with the starter. We had the moo ping which is served like chicken satay, but it's pork, it's tender and it's delicious. As for our main meals, the pad see ew was probably the best I've ever had. I know you're thinking how good can pad see ew be, but it was doggone tasty. Certainly the best in lakeview. We also had a duck and rice dish with mushroom. I don't know what they put on it, but that was actually better than the pad see ew. I believe it was on their secret menu. Finally as always they get bonus for being BYOB. Service: This is the reason I'm not getting five stars and I feel a bit torn. The staff was super friendly when you could get their attention....We were seated quickly, but after that the only time we were able to get anyone over to our table was if we flagged them down. Since it wasn't particularly crowded I'm not sure what the deal was. Having said that, they were very lovely and polite when we did get their attention.

Go for the not-so-secretive menu! Tac Quick is conveniently located below and next to the Sheridan red line stop. It's a tiny place but definitely not a hole-in-the-wall. The restaurant is run by Thai and if you try to eavesdrop on their conversation, you will understand none of it (unless you're Thai)! Our party of two arrived on a Thursday slightly before 5:30pm. There were two other tables besides ours. We ordered two Thai iced teas and..... NAM NUANG is a huge mess. It comes in two separate plates. Plate A looks like thin jello but in reality, it's the clear and soft spring roll wrap. Look closer and carefully try to pick up a piece without tearing it apart. Plate B holds the garlic, vegetable, shredded apple, and pork balls. Bundle them up and devour them. (Be sure to have your napkin ready!) KRA PRAO MOO KROB is a must-try! It's stir-fried crispy pork with basil leaf. If I didn't have to take manners and etiquette into consideration, I would've just taken the whole plate to myself. Good food isn't meant for sharing. LAD NAR "EMPIRE" WITH SHRIMP is a plate of wide noodles with Chinese broccoli. If I had to rank the appetizer and entrees, this would be #2 on the list. The noodles were soft and the shrimp were crisp. Will I return? YES!

I absolutely LOVE this place. It's very close to my house, but I would travel across the city to eat here. This is the best Thai food I've ever had. The service is QUICK as the name indicates. The atmosphere is very modern, clean, and always pleasant. The waitstaff is always on top of everything. My water glass is never empty, which goes far for me. Highly recommended for a casual or semi-fancy meal. Delicious every time.

Came here for dinner with 2 other couples. Everything was delicious and affordable. They are also BYOB which is great. We ate a ton and it still only paid about 30 bucks a couple. We had the following dishes (and a few more that I can't remember): moo ping - super tender and juicy pork skewers koong chae nam pa - delicious spicy raw shrimp pork hock - good flavors and pretty tender pad thai omelet - tasty and large portion fried cat fish curry - nice flavor but the fish was kind of dry papaya salad with blue crab - nice and spicy but be careful of the little bits of crab shell throughout the dish

Been coming here back when this was still a hole in the wall. Thankfully, nothing has changed; almost everything is fresh and delicious (but still not a fan of the jungle curry). Be sure to check out the board for the daily specials. There's always something new and authentic that I've never tried before. It's also convenient to get to if you take the red line to the Sheridan stop. Even better that there is a liquor store next door since the place is BYOB!

If I lived within delivery radius of this place, I would be in huge trouble because the food is very good, and prepared very fast and conveniently for take-away. I dined in, starting with the deep fried marinated chicken, which came with a sweet and tangy fish sauce. 5 pieces of mixed chicken parts, very hot, right out of the fryer. The first couple of crunch and crispy bites were delightful, although I could only stomach about one piece before it got too oily. We also go the boat noodles with mixed meats in broth from the secret menu. That was my favorite dish for the night, and it's perfect for sharing. We also got the duck curry. The duck and curry were fantastic. However, I did not enjoy the fruit salad that came cooked in the curry. I was not a fan of the green grapes, tomatoes, and pineapples that were mixed with the duck. Grapes in curry tasted weird and didn't really do anything positive for me.

The panang curry didn't taste like panang at all, and came out cold. All three of the waitresses came by the table to tell me it wasn't cold. Am I crazy? How is this debatable? I don't know...I don't ever leave reviews, and I don't ever leave zero tip. The service here drove me to drastic measures! Side note, the rest of the food was fantastic.

Ate here for the first time - why oh why had I not heard if this place before????? Had the crispy enchoy - amazing!! The nam tok - divine and the grilled pork neck was out of this world!!! This is my new go to place for great Thai food!!!

Creative, delicious, and well imagined dishes -Panang Noodles- crispy sweet noodles in a delicate peanut curry, makes me want to grab my top hat, eye glass, and cane and do a dance (a must if you like a new twist on your Panag Curry) -Pad Thai-you've seen the pictures...its stuffed into a thin omelet (and mom always said breakfast was the most important meal of the day)

Food delicious. Modest space. Byob. But a greet place to go after a Cubs game. Not crowded. Inexpensive. Good outside space. Highly recommend.

They have a robust menu, the prices are great, location near the El is great. Food is quality, portion size is right, all around good place for good Thai.

Mmm, who knew that there was such great Thai food less than a mile and a half from my apartment? This isn't in the "solid convenient pad thai" genre so much as the "weird and delicious sour fishy things" genre. You have to ask for the secret menu, but if you do, they'll give it to you. (And it's posted in the window, so ... how secret is it, really?) I had Tod Mun Pla (fish-chili balls with sour cucumber peanut sauce) and the famous Kra Phrao Kai Yeow Ma (ground chicken, fried basil leaves, thousand-year eggs). Both were outstanding. But I intend to explore the menu and you should too.

Great spot. Sat myself, and it became cery busy over the 30 minutes I was there. Pad Thai was above average. I have had AMAZING pad thai, but this just dies the job well, which every thai place should at least hit on w pad thai. There were 3 floor employees, all if whom appeared to be organized and helping each other. Thai iced tea was served in a tall glass. Nice touch. Also nice was the glass jar of chili paste served to me on request. Presentation was nice. As others have said, its BYOB. Always great. Also as others have said the service can run a little thin at times. However, they are clearly doing their best. And overall it is worth it!

This is a hidden gem Thai restaurant. They however are not your typical Thai restaurant. Their menu offer many authentic Thai popular dishes with their own creative twists that work. I have many favorite combinations here that I rotate each time I stop by. Pay attention to the Chef's Special of the day on the board. They are usually delish!!! The service is always friendly , nice and very QUICK!!!

  • Charlotte F.

Service was efficient but not amazing, and the menu has *a lot* to offer in terms of flavors, variety and such. It is close to the train and there is generally parking nearby, so it is definitely worth the effort to travel. The food was great, but I think the prices should be distributed better. There was not a good mix of higher and low priced items, considering the variety. I feel like the nicer dishes were being subsidized by the ones with lower input costs. I know that sounds weird, but I felt like some of the prices did not reflect the value of the ingredients or effort to prepare.

Mediocre. Some dishes are good, some are edible but below average. There are other Thai restaurants with better quality and taste.

FINALLY HIT THE SWEET SPOT HERE. Oh man. 'Secret' menu (which is clearly labelled as such on their GrubHub page) all the way. It's a mouthful: Kuay Teaw Tom Yum Muu Sab Secret Menu Noodle Dish. It comes with a container of what's basically tom yum broth, and a large carryout box with: rice noodles, bean sprouts, bbq pork, ground pork, a crispy wonton, and some really gloriously cooked Chinese broccoli- perfectly fresh and ever so slightly still crisp. Do not attempt to get this for carryout unless you have a large bowl/small bucket to pour it all into. I had a sad time scooping out toppings and putting them into my soup as I made room. Som Tum Thai Secret Menu - Papaya salad with dried shrimp and peanut. Hmm. I've been searching for the perfect papaya salad since I had one from somewhere I don't remember. This one is good, mostly straight up papaya with no filler. Needs more shrimp or peanuts to impart distinct flavors. But this does have lots of fresh, tasty papaya. And spice. Next up, gotta get myself some duck.

Remember those videos of the honey badger taking a shitload of bee stings to the face just to get some honey? That's how you will feel halfway through chewing through a plate of thai chili peppers, and you will totally understand where that son of a bitch was coming from.

Authentic thai food, cheap and friendly Tasted like in bangkok. Staff friendly Setting is basic, a little barr bones, but food is great. Some of the best thai food have tasted in the US. Well worth the red line trip from the loop

I've only had their dine in and takeout, and they're always solid. The duck curry and pork dishes I've tried are great. Its super convenient by the Sheridan Red Line stop - it's never disappointed!

BYOB .. check! Reasonable Price.. check! I've eaten at this place few times now. The food is really good where fresh ingredients are used (no sad frozen veggies here), great flavors and spices, everything is cooked to perfection! The place is quiet, and never too busy. Clean and great service.

I often order from tac quick for to go but every time I go there for pick up the servers never said "hi" or "thank you". Not even once! Even when the restaurant was empty.

I had high hopes for this place due to all the good reviews. However they failed to deliver. We waited for well over an hour for noodles. Other people were seated after us ordered, ate, got their check, paid, and left all before our food came out. When our food finally came out they placed it on their counter for 10 - 15 minutes. They then finally brought it over to our table but by that point it was cold. When we told the server the food was cold they asked us if we wanted it microwaved to be heated up. R u kidding me, we sent the food back. I also felt that they nickle and dime on small charges like for beef and corking fee. I will never go back to tac quick. Mediocre food and even worse service.

Best Thai I've had in chicago. They have a large menu (though it gets a little redundant). They don't overload you with portions... They win you over with great flavors and quality spices.

Great thai food! I am a big Thai fan and have found it to be really difficult to find quality Thai food in the city. Tac Quick offers really flavorful, fresh food for a low price. It's byob and they have a nice outdoor patio in the summer(although it can get a little loud as the el stop is next door). There is a liquor store a few doors down for those looking to purchase alcohol nearby. There is also an $8 minimum for credit purchases. It's super casual and can get somewhat busy on weekend nights. Great place for a date night or a group of friends. Definitely worth trying!

  • Colette S.

This place has solid food and great portions. The service is quick and attentive. Not much else to say. The inside is very clean, simple, and very large. I have only gone for lunch, but I can't imagine there would ever be limited sitting. It's also right off the sheridan stop! Perfect when you solely rely on the CTA for transportation. TIP: great lunch special!

  • Teresa E.

This place is real, authentic thai food. The pad thai is delicious but I recommend trying the Pad See Ew and Lad Nar. The thai Iced tea is amazziiiiing! I love it. Also the prices are decent for what you get, I usually have to take leftovers home. And the service is great, the waitresses there are very sweet and very attentive with refills and cleaning the tables and unneeded plates. It's also BYOB, and theres a liquor store just down the street underneath the sheridan red line stop. I also love the ambiance here, it is very neat and clean and decor is pretty modern, you can tell they furnished entirely from Ikea, but is works!

I lived a block away from Tac Quick last year and quickly became a regular customer. I ordered the Peanut Curry on my first visit and, while I have tried a lot of menu items at this point, I always will return to the glorious peanutty sweetness. The food is extremely affordable and lives up to its name - everything comes out quickly, yet with an attention to detail. Big portions and a wide variety on the menu will satisfy everyone from Thai newbies to those who can confidently pronounce words on their "Secret Menu". The restaurant is almost never overcrowded, even on weekends. As for ambiance - the 90's R&B Pandora station they have playing will never fail to please. Oh, and it's BYOB and right next door to a liquor store (Sheridan "L" Lounge) so what's not to like?

Tac Quick is the closest Thai place to where I live, so I will probably be back, but for the abundance of Thai places in the area, I would say this place is just ok, but if you want Thai and it's close, hey, might as well. I ordered from here once because I wanted Thai food quickly and I also didn't want to move. The delivery time is pretty much nothing. I feel like they completed my order by the time I hung up my phone because my food was at my door within 15 minutes. A big plus to this place is that the menu is probably the most creative of any Thai place I've been to. The secret menu has a bunch of items I've never seen anywhere and they're pretty good (they're creative in concept, but none of the flavors were doing anything spectacular). The prices here are pretty standard and you can get just about any traditional fast food Thai dish you can think of. Otherwise, I don't have much to say about it. I have yet to dine in, so I can't say anything about the atmosphere. I love Tac Quick for the convenience and how quickly we get the food, but that's the only thing that keeps me coming back.

So it's my second time here and I enjoyed it both times! I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 because I think the portions are small for price and I didn't like the shrimp dumplings for appetizers. Way too small a dumpling for almost $1 a piece and it is only 1/2 a bite size. Som Tum was really good and I like papaya salad and they had great seasoning to the dish. Next we had Pad See Ew with Beef which is pretty much similar to other Thai places. Panang Curry with Chicken was good and sauce of a good consistency. Pad Thai Kung Sod Haw Kha is my favorite dish consisting of shrimp with glass noodles wrapped in an omelet. Lettuce Wrap with Chicken was standard fare. Kra Prao Moo Krob is a crispy pork dish with just enough spice! Excellent! I would highly recommend this place.

Came here on a Sunday night after moving to the neighborhood that weekend. Panang Curry is always my go to at a Thai place and Tac Quick did not disappoint. The person I went with ordered the Lemon Chicken Salad. It was delicious but maybe had a tad too much sugar for me to have wanted it for my entire meal. The few bites I had were amazing though. I think the place was BYOB but since it was a Sunday we didn't really try to find out. I'll definitely be coming back in the near future as this place is very good.

5 stars for great food and BYOB, but -2 stars for subpar service. I made a reservation for 6 people on a Saturday night, and the restaurant was almost always full the two hours we were there. They never refilled our water, didn't bring extra utensils and plates/bowls, and we had to flag down a waitress to even place our order. I recommend going off hours so you can enjoy the food and hopefully avoid mediocre service.

Asian is my favorite kind of food and I eat it religiously and this place is nothing special really. The food is average at best so I'm not sure what is up with all of the high ratings really. If you want good and authentic Thai food, go to P.S. Bangkok on Clark and Roscoe. Now THAT is awesome Thai! I've eaten at a million Thai places throughout Chicago and that place is by far the best Thai in town. psbangkok.com The last time I ate at Tac Quick was forever ago and it would be the last time I would go there because, like I said, there is nothing special about the food, but to make matters worse, the owner (perhaps it was the manager) is a rude jerk. I was eating in their outdoor seating area, which is narrow and small. In the owner's infinite wisdom, he allowed a couple to bring their large dog into this small outdoor eating space. While I was eating my food, the dog walked up to my plate of food and ate food off of my plate. Not sure you should allow large dogs to sit in such a small and confined eating area ever, but the owner did allow it. When I complained to the owner about what had happened, he refused to do anything to rectify the situation. He would not replace my meal. He would not give me any kind of discount. He wouldn't even give me a lousy free ice tea or something. Nothing. And I had been there quite a few times (only because this place was literally around the corner from my apartment and therefore, convenient if I didn't want to travel for food). He did nothing. I have never returned and I never would.

When the food and service are great it makes the review so easy because you don't need to say much. Really I just need to thank the peeps on Yelp Talk as the Thai Thread that has been going on for days had a great link that lead me here. Here is a copy of that link btw, chicago.seriouseats.com/… link will lead you to true and authentic thai dishes scattered throughout our great city. Here are a few of the dishes that I had. If you want an accurate description just click the said link I provided, because they were all fantastic, and as good as the writer had described. A. (This Dish I added without the writer's assistance) Teaw Yen Ta Fo 8.50 Steamed flat noodle, shrimp, squid, fish ball, fried tofu, wonton, bean sprout and On Choy in spicy tomato broth. B. Sai Krog Isaan 6.50 (writer suggestion) Isaan style fermented pork and rice sausage. C. Khao Klug Ka Pi 9.50 (writer suggestion) Shrimp paste rice with various mix-ins. Those three dishes were just some of many "THAI SECRET MENU" dishes that they offer. So don't be bashful and just ask for the secret menu, as they will gladly hook you up, just like I have... Enjoy Suckas'!!!

i like the fact that they have a menu for both American taste and the Thai taste. If you ask for their secret menu, they have the VERY traditional Thai menu. When I look for a regional cuisine, I want the real deal and this place got it! The Green Curry is SCRUMPTIOUS... the pad thai is a little pocket of heaven... and the tom yam soup is the best I have ever had in a very long while. everything on this menu is a winner! i have yet to try something that is bad at this place. ps. BYOB!

Hard to only give 4 stars when others I trust for reviews gave 5 stars, but gotta do it. Being under the weather (and because gf lives too far to make me food) I asked my trusted Thai food yelp expert, Tatawan P, where to get khao tom. She suggested TAC quick and so I went there for take out... I never really looked at the menu before, but it is quite impressive with some dishes I've only seen there or back in Thailand. I ordered the following. Khao tom goong: I think they call it shrimp rice soup on the menu. Asked if I could get khao tom muu instead as this is what I've eaten before when sick, but no... Whatever, though. It was good, but not as good as my memories of when I ate it in Thailand or when my grandmother made it for me. khao man gai/kai: $8.50 for a small to go container of rice and chicken with a soybean sauce... really small portion, but it was pretty good for the little I tried of it before putting it away for later. khanom jeen nam ya: Ok, another one where I ordered this dish because I don't see this too often, but in reality I wanted the noodles (khanom jeen) with green curry (gang keaw wan.) I asked if I could order that, but the lady said they didn't have the dish. They have green curry. They have khanom jeen. Where's the problem? I even asked if I could order the green curry and then pay for a side of my beloved noodles. Nope. Sheesh.. they could add two more dishes on the menu if so... khanom jeen nam prik and kanom jeen gang keaw wan. Whatever though. I didn't eat this yet so I will update my review when I do. What bothers me is the one girl handling the take-out and deliveries. I have a friend that does deliveries and he mentioned a girl that doesn't smile and isn't so friendly to him. I think I talked to the same girl. Only nice thing about her was she gave me the nam pla prik (fish sauce with chilli pepper) I asked for. Maybe I was being picky with my food selections and was more sensitive with being under the weather... I do think though that the other girl serving that night was really nice and friendly. I bet if I asked for the food from her I would have gotten exactly what I wanted. Ah well. 4 stars because nice girl cancelled out not friendly girl and food for what I've tried is good with some I haven't seen elsewhere.

I ordered takeout from here this weekend. I believe it was about $60 for 5 meals and 2 appetizers. Very reasonably priced. We ordered the egg rolls, Gyoza, Pad Thai, Pad See Ew, Pad Mee, and a few other things I didn't get to try (Whoops). The Gyoza, Pad See Ew, and Pad Mee were fantastic. I will go back for those. The Pad Thai was good, but I have had better.

I come here frequently for lunch when the place is quiet and the service really is quick. Highly recommend the moo ping as an appetizer. Tastes just like Bangkok street food. And the Kao Soy will take you right back to that hole-in-the-wall you remember so well from Chang Rai.

Pad thai Omelette. Did you hear me?? Or rather, did you see what I just typed out?! PAD THAI OMELETTE. Heck yes. It's super tasty, a dream come true- I love any dish that's two in one and probably the only way I'll eat an omelette besides my mom's version with tomatoes and chinese sausage embedded in runny eggs... it's soo good over rice with some maggi soy sauce. The omelette here is cooked perfectly thin wrapping up well seasoned pad thai made with bean thread noodles. It's really, really good. They serve it with a mound of sugar and chili flakes and lime on the side so you can alter it for your taste after squeezing lime all over it. Perfection. Sadly, I did ask for mine with no bean sprouts but got bean sprouts on the side and on the inside. No =/= on the side. It means No. No means NO. Jesus Christ. It's like some horn ball two timing whore that already has a girlfriend who can't take no for an answer and think they can weasel their way into your heart and vagina with pathetic puppy dog eyes, making you drop your underwear for them. Not gonna happen. When I'm a dead rotting corpse maybe. With bugs having already gobbled up my eyeballs out of my eye sockets yet still hangin around, rolling around in that empty hole of mine. You know you want that. Bean sprouts will never happen with me mmmk.. My dad was one of those parents who wouldn't let us leave the table without finishing all of our dinner and a couple times you know who was in my bowl... I sat there pretending to eat my food until my dad fell asleep on the couch and tip toed into the bathroom to flush down that nastiness. So do I need to whip out a dictionary..... Because your ESL teacher failed you. When I first saw my dish come out I just thought okay fine, at least it's on the side but opening up the wrapped omelette I found me some bean sprouts. GAG. Needless to say I was livid. I told them the problem and sent it back and just got up and told them to wrap it up to go cuz I gotta go back to work. I heard the waitress tell the cooks to leave it on the side and I had to say NO beansprouts at all! I don't want any of that shit. Not for now, and not for later. I'm allergic I exclaimed! (which is a lie) but I needed to make sure that there's none of that shit in my dish. For real people no means no God dammit. So if you have any real allergies, I'd double check if I were you. The manager/owner came up to me and apologized profusely and gave me a free appetizer card so that was nice they acknowledged their mistake. I had my bean sprout free pad thai omelette with shrimp, extra spicy and it was glorious. Extra spicy is more like mild if you like spicy. I hope to return again very soon but for the love of simple requests-- I hope they hear it loud and clear from me next time at the risk of sounding condescending even. No bean sprouts means none better be hanging around on my plate anywhere. Since they fixed it I'll give them what they deserve- 4 stars. Their not a secret- secret menu has some good looking gems on there. Btw their Thai pasta sounds like a friendly safe dish for non asians but it's not for the faint of heart and those freaked out by funkiness. It's delicious but not for everyone. You know what I mean by "everyone"

Our new go-to Thai place in the area. We were loyal Cozy fans for years until we finally gave this place a try. My husband used to work at a Thai restaurant in college and enjoys their much more authentic Thai options, but there are still accessible more "vanilla" offerings that won't scare off your picky friends. In general, they have a much more expansive menu than other Thai places, but still have very reasonable prices and is BYOB. We've been many times, and there will be many more!

This place is great! The food is so good and it is BYOB! I'm not that adventurous in Thai food (yet) but my fiancé who is more adventurous than I has tried more and loved every dish! Our favorites are the garlic beef and the sweet and sour (not fried) chicken. The crab rangoon are great too. Service is not amazing, but you don't have to wait long for food and the place is always clean. I highly recommend this place for dine in OR delivery (I feel like you get even more food with delivery)!

  • Dave R.

Amazing Thai food! I live near another Thai restaurant, but make the trek for this one. The food is amazing. Pay attention to spicy versus non-spicy any you'll be great! The service is ok, but I'll give the restaurant 5 stars since I cannot give the food six stars. Cannot recommend this place enough!

Delicious, inexpensive, and perfectly portioned! Get your butt in there and try a noodle dish. The pad see ew is delightful! The egg rolls are served up hot and tasty too. Service is fast and friendly. And did I mention it is not expensive? Lunch with an appetizer and entree for under $15? How do you say "Hell yes!" in Thai?

Upon searching for a new place to eat (i just moved to the neighborhood) Tac Quick was the first take-out restaurant to pop up. I ordered the sweet and sour chicken, with white rice and a side of crab rangoon to go. I was under-impressed with the sweet and sour sauce, (tasted like a packaged process dressing) and the chicken was OK. The amount of chicken they gave for the meal was small as well. I have nothing bad to say about the crab rangoon, it was pretty good. The dipping sauce that came with it was very good as well

Great, quick, reliable and reasonable. All the ingredients are fresh and crisp, no sad veggies or questionable meat. Great spot to dine in with BYOB, or an excellent take-out spot as well. Pad Thai is some of the best I've ever had, and the portion size is generous. Same goes for the Tom Kha soup, a coconut milk based soup with herbs and excellent when you're sick or just dealing with the cold. If you're looking for a different kind of dish, order the Thai pasta off the secret menu. Its an herby seafood noodle dish that's authentic and fresh.

  • Nicole S.

Very disappointed. Som tum was very spicy and hard to chew. The fried flat noodle was too oily. The service and environment were okay. However, their food is one of the worst I have ever had in all the Thai restaurants in Chicago I've ever been to.

  • Fei W.

The basil chicken is awesome. Lots of the other dishes are good too, but the basil chicken is where it's at. If you've read my other reviews (why would you?) you'd see a recurring theme of wanting to drink sauces. It's no different in this case, the basil chicken flavors are so good I'd seriously just drink it or drown some rice with it. Best thing on the menu. Other Thai staples are fine as well. My favorite Thai place in Chicago so far, and I've tried plenty.

  • Jessica N.

I had a hot and cold experience here. We offered off the "secret menu" but...if it's so secret why is it published on their website? Pork skewers - well marinated and well cooked. The spicy tomato broth seafood dish was REALLY tasty. That is definitely worth at least 4 stars. But my husband ordered another noodle dish w. chicken - the chicken came undercooked. Literally pink/transparent in the middle. And of course when we pointed it out it meant the whole dish went back in and came out with the noodles torn to pieces from being overcooked. That was disappointing.... I'd come back to try more non-traditional dishes but with so many other thai places to compete with it may be a while before we're back.

Decent for Chicago........ but mediocre for just about anywhere else. I don't get it...Chicago, in all its foodie glory, cannot offer me better Thai food than suburban Delaware! The meal started out great...chicken satay was juicy and tender, and the peanut sauce, while not very peanutty, was very reminiscent of satay flavors I've had in southeast Asia. Then came the spring rolls... the rolls themselves were good, if a little bland, but the dipping sauce was an awful mix of bland and sour...how does that even happen?! Fine, so far we're still doing well.... I had the basil entree with beef and my wife had the garlic entree with beef. We might as well have ordered those entrees with shoe leather because it might have been less tough than the beef... the flavor was good, even though the sauces on both were very watery, the vegetables were crisp, fresh, and well-cooked; but that beef! Way to ruin it. All in all, Tac Quick was an above average Thai meal for Chicago (unfortunately), but I'm afraid it doesn't get beyond mediocre if you've ever actually had GOOD Thai. I averaged out my feelings and give Tac Quick 3 stars....

Completely and utterly meh-worthy. I've experienced better, indeed. Not sure why, but seeking out great Thai in Chicago has been quite the consuming task for this West Coast chick. I've been on the hunt for just over a decade now. From the downright shoddy service, to the poorly executed menus - that are usually overextended with hundreds of items - I mean really, who can make that much shit proficiently? - it's all the same. Craptastic. And Tac Quick is no exception. From the horrendously slow - and at times positively dismissive - service to their bland Tom Kha soup, to an unnecessarily and insanely spicy Nam Tok salad, to the icky, thick curry, to not even knowing what Mee Krob is - really? - it was an all around disappointment. Won't be back, but am currently accepting suggestions for something better. Please?

We stopped here on the way to a Cubs game which they won! I believe it was due to the mixture of Spotted Cow and delicious Thai food! The service was quick, and I didn't have to wait for a bottle opener (usual experience) since this is a byob place. No corking fee what a plus! We ordered the peanut curry and crab Rangoon. The food arrived quickly, was delicious and very tasty. Our curry didn't come with any rice which I thought a little strange but we couldn't have eaten much more if we tried! Also we were ordered in and out in less than 40 minutes which is a feat! Thanks for the great food and good experience!

Two locals, two out-of-towners (one with a discriminating palate, the other so very not) visited Tac Quick on a recent Saturday evening. Tac Quick has an outdoor seating area facing Sheridan Road. Is it nice to sit outside on a very pleasant Chicago evening in May? Usually, yeah. But Tac Quick is located only a door or two away from the Sheridan Red Line station. If you sit outside, you will be serenaded by a cacophony of squealing wheels as L trains round the curve at Sheridan. Not Tac Quick's fault so much - if you're near the L, you're going to hear the L. Just realize that sitting outdoors at Tac Quick is not a peaceful dining experience. Anyway. We chose to eat indoors so we could actually hear each other. Tac Quick's interior is modern and clean. We started with orders of Spring Rolls and Egg Rolls. These were impressive in presentation and taste. For dinner, the "not so adventurous" diner ordered chicken fried rice. The Young Lawyer, who lives in the neighborhood and suggested Tac Quick, ordered Tom Yum soup and Pad See Ew with beef. The Discriminating Out of Towner and I both wanted something with a bit of a spicy kick, so we both ordered entrees with **, which indicates medium hot spice. I had the cashew with tofu, and he chose the massaman beef. We got the food relatively quickly and dove right in. Everything was OK. That's just it - only OK. Again, the presentation was really good, but the taste was nothing special. What really disappointed me and the Discriminating Out of Towner that our so-called "medium spicy" dishes had no spice at all. None. Zero. Zilch. I mean, the flavor was okay, but they were completely mild. It was if the heat had been surgically amputated. We ate everything, didn't complain, paid up and tipped, and said, "I don't think we need to come here again." There are so, so many Thai restaurants in Chicago that the quality really has to be high, and consistent, to stand out in a favorable way. And Tac Quick does not stand out. If I was with someone who absolutely wanted to eat here, I'd go, sure. But it definitely would not be a first, second, or even third choice for me.

I've lived in the area for months and always dismissed it as a hole-in-the-wall taco place due to the name. I'm so glad I actually looked at the menu taped to the front door this afternoon. I had no idea there was such a Thai gem only a few minute walk from me. Absolutely delicious. I tried the Gyoza and Crispy Calamari appetizers, Pad See Ew, and the Chicken Lettuce Wraps. The flavor in everything was spot on. The gyoza, which can sometimes be too greasy and doughy, was perfect. The calamari wasn't overly chewy or overcooked. The Pad See Ew was delicious, had tons of flavor. I was even given a quarter of a lettuce head for the lettuce wraps, unlike most places that give you one or two leaves and hope that's enough. I'll definitely be returning. If you want flavorful Thai food that doesn't boast unreasonable prices, go here. Flavor, BYOB, great prices, great service - YES.

The food is pretty good. Sometimes the service is not the quickest but it is BYOB. The pad Thai is delicious but I would also recommend the fried rice. The crab ragoons are mediocre. Tends to get pretty busy around 7:00 and super close to the redline Sheridan.

2nd time here! I really like the Thai food at this place. Space - casual, typical restaurant layout. The good is you can people watch through glass window if you want. Service- our waitress was really nice and friendly. We came during slow time, so not much to critique on. You only know how good service is when the place is busier I think. Food- *pad woonsen: noodle stuck together and chicken here was very dry. Maybe we should've stirred it up when it came up instead of letting it sit for a few minutes. But from the taste, it honestly wouldn't have made much difference. Wouldn't order again. *tom yum with shrimp: we ordered 2 of these. good as always. Lemongrass, lemon leaves, enough spice, mushroom, all great! *Pad Ped Pla Duk (I think that's the name): it's crispy catfish pieces stirred in sweet and sour sauce with some bell pepper. Sweet & sour here tasted like Panda Express's orange chicken type of sauce. pretty good. best with white rice. *stir-fried dish with crispy basil leave on top and deep fried thousand year old eggs in the noodle. sorry i don't know the name, and not sure if it's on the regular menu. my friend always order this and it's been consistently good the 2 times I'm here. The eggs here are the high-quality thousand years old eggs. Clear egg-white with a deep green jade coloring, and the yolk still had some hint of yellow in it. Doesn't look all mushy and aged. Don't ask me how I know this stuff. Random facts I've picked up from some documentary. * Thai iced tea with cream: pretty good here. * Thai iced coffee with cream: pretty bad, don't order. Go get a caramel machiatto @ Starbucks instead if you want coffee & cream. See you again next time Tac Quick!

Great neighborhood gem! The Curry Fried Rice is delicious and fried - unlike Jitlada's mush. I've also had the BBQ Pork and rice - it's delicious.

Our meal at Tac Quick was one of our favorite meals of our recent trip to Chicago. It's a small, busy restaurant, so reservations would be recommended. We started with the Koong Chae Nam Pa (raw shrimp) and I really liked it. Fresh, strong flavors. Beware though... it definitely has a kick to it; it was too much for my gf to handle. Between the three of us, we shared the Kra Phrao Kai Yeow Ma (basil chicken), Kaeng Keow Waan Kai Jeaw (green curry w/ eggplant) and the Pad Thai Kung Sod Haw Khai (Pad thai omelette). We all thoroughly enjoyed the basil chicken and Pad thai omelette as they were packed with flavor; I would highly recommend them. The green curry was good, but it couldn't compete with the other dishes. I liked these dishes because to my knowledge, they're not available at other Thai restaurants I've been to (or maybe I just need to venture out more). My only gripe about this place is that it takes a long time to get your food. I may not have minded had we not been in a hurry, but just know you probably won't be in and out of this place if you're dining in.

Love TAC Quick. Too bad that it's a bit out of the way for me to become a regular. Maybe I'll start using their delivery. Anyway, their menu definitely has much to offer and there are some lesser available dishes included on both menus. Enjoyed the heat level that the food was served at. I thought the pricing was very fair and I liked that they were not in a big hurry to turn over the table and let our party sit and chat.

I am truly addicted to their panang curry. I seriously order it 1-2 times a week and I'm pretty sure the delivery dudes have my face memorized. I'm moving in a couple weeks and will be out of their delivery area, which devastates me. However my waistline and wallet will probably be in a better place because of it. I would give them five stars, but I don't enjoy their crab rangoon or egg rolls. I will order and eat them, just to get my order to $10 (the minimum for delivery), but it's mostly out of necessity.

I moved to Chicago after living in San Francisco my whole life, and while I didn't expect to have great Asian food offered everywhere like in the Bay Area I also was surprised at how few authentic places I've run across so far. Fear not -- Tac Quick is one place to quench my tongue's homesickness. (Of course the food in this city is great and I've got nothing to complain about, but you can't blame an Asian dude for missing his grub!) The atmosphere is chill: house music, dim lights, not very loud inside. The service is great, and what's best is that it's just yards away from the Sheridan stop on the Red line. Order everything from their secret menu! The one caveat is that their papaya salad is ridiculously spicy and so unless you're a glutton for pain tell them to tone it down. My number one favorite is their boat noodles: beef brisket and tendon in a thick broth with thin egg noodles. I'm a soup + noodle kinda guy, and this is where I go when I'm craving it. In fact, since I haven't found any pho places I can take the train to easily, this is my go-to spot for Sunday morning hangovers just for these noodles. Everything else is great too: try their chicken skewers with peanut sauce. Have only been in big groups, and in the process have had small portions of about 2/3 of the secret menu and I cannot say there's one dish that I wouldn't mind having a whole plate of to myself.

Not bad. I have had better. But not bad. Its a little pricey and the crowd inside is a bit yuppie. I have never eaten in and, quite frankly, would not ever want to. I got take out a couple nights ago, spur of the moment, so I had to wait inside for it. There was the most annoying lush inside drunk as she could be (its BYOB). It looked like the whole restaurant was annoyed with her. Anyway the food, first time I got take out it was pretty good. Chicken basil was perfect and spicy the way I like it. The egg rolls were decent and the crab rangoon was delicious. It was a really good experience. The other night, I ordered Panang Curry (my new obsession). It was so bland and oily. I threw away half of it because I was so disappointed! I probably won't be back for anything but a few appetizers because it is so close to my apartment. But if I want entrees, I'll hike to Pot Pan.

Had the spring rolls; the best sauce I've had with these! Served on a flat plate with the sauce already poured on the plate with the red chili sauce in each of 2 corners I could mix them together as I wished to my comfort level of hotness. The duck w/ noodles was delicious and there was plenty of duck. The portions are large here so you can take some home to enjoy later! I would definitely go back!

If I am to have thai food, this is probably one of the few places in the city i would go to! I got spoiled by my thai friends and their families...but this place serves really good authentic thai food! I always ordered from their thai menu and was never disappointed. They used to have this dish that I usually could only have at my friends' places...this is one of my favorites! Tapioca balls stuffed with minced garlic and pork, served with lettuce leaves. Sad that they don't offer it anymore...i am still hoping it would be back on the menu again.... The only time i was crying is because i didn't know how spicy their papaya salad was (my friend's mom toned it down for me), and i forgot to ask them to adjust the spiciness and my tongue was on fire! LOL...I love papaya salad and would def. order from them again :)

Tac Quick is a great place for BYOB dinner with friends. The don't discourage sharing, and I encourage it. The "secret menu" is tasty and has some interesting flavors that you don't find everywhere. The restaurant's proximity to the red line makes it really easy to meet people there.

I have dined at Tac Quick quite a few times and ordered delivery once, and always end the meal with mixed feelings. Overall, the food is really good, which makes me want to keep on giving the place another chance. However, my dining and delivery experiences have kept me from going back for more, especially when there are so many excellent and cheaper Thai restaurants to choose from in this city. What has kept me from dining again at Tac Quick is the awful service and atmosphere. Every time I have been, my table was completely ignored until we flagged someone down, and when we finally got a server they acted like they didn't even want to take our order. We felt very unwelcome. As far as the atmosphere is concerned, the place is small, and when it is crowded you feel like you are on top of the table next to you. I have never had a pleasant dining experience at Tac Quick. The one time I decided to order delivery from them, it took over an hour even though I live six blocks away, the food was cold, and the portions were really tiny. In my opinion, Tac Quick isn't worth the frustration or money, even if their food is pretty good.

The food is great and who doesn't like a good BYOB?! I need to start going more often. Last time I was there with a large group and the server did a good job of handling all the orders we threw at the poor girl. I HIGHLY recommend the secret (yellow) menu!

We enjoyed this place overall. The authentic, bold and fresh flavors of the appetizers and entrees were very good. We started with the spring rolls and then had the Lad Nar and Pad Thai. I was really excited about seeing their "secret menu" before we went and even playfully talked about that my dining companion about that knowledge on the way down. That said, it was kind of funny when the "secret menu" was printed right there on the "regular menu". The only thing that made me decide on giving this a 3 star rating instead of a four star was our experience with the dessert. We ordered a banana desert that I had read wonderful reviews on. Neither of us cared for it at all. We also got a custard type desert that sounded much better than it was. We would definitely go back, if in the area - However, we'd also definitely skip desert next time.

This place is cheap and quick. I've never had anything great, but I've never had anything bad either. I generally go with the tom kha soup and the green curry. I've tried some stuff off of the secret menu and never been wowed by it, so I generally just stick to the standard menu.

First of all, if you don't order off of the Secret Menu, you are a vagina. Also, if you are reading this right now and you are my girlfriend, I am just kidding. I ordered the "Yum Woon Sen Talay", which, according to the menu, contains glass noodle, shrimp, squid with fresh lime juice, peanut, garlic, onion, green leaf, cilantro and Thai hot Chili. It did indeed contain those things, but there were also several other unidentified sea creatures in there as well. I'm basically a modern day Jacques Cousteau when it comes to eating, so this didn't exactly faze me, but it might make others hesitant. Perhaps Tac Quick should consider renaming the "Secret Menu" to the "Surprise Menu"? Anyway, the food was great. It didn't look like much, but I was goin absolutely ham over the Thai hot Chilis. They were pretty much perfect. I finished off half of my girlfriend's Tofu Pad Thai and that was delectable as well. My only qualm with this place is that we went on the night of the Paul McCartney concert and the restaurant didn't seem to make any effort to accommodate the large amount of diners. There were about 15 tables being served by one waitress. She did a great job considering, but she didn't speak much English and couldn't really help me with the Secret Menu as I was told the wait staff does. Overall, the food is great, but I probably picked a bad night to go. My first visit went much more smoothly. I will be back for many more secrets and surprises.

Still stand by this place as above average Thai. I got takeout here that was ready even faster than they said it it was, and the good portion size meant I was eating tasty food for days (I don't eat much. You probably won't be eating it for days - maybe two portions worth). I got the Pa Lo from the secret menu (OOOOOOOHHHHHH SECRETZ) and it was really nice. Hard boiled egg, fatty pork belly, in a really interesting dark sauce. Flavorful, sweet, strong, and sticky. I also got Pad See Ew because it's my guilty pleasure, and they did a really nice job with it. One of the better versions of the dish I've had. Glad I live in walking distance of good Thai - I'm sure I'll be back plenty!

  • Lola K P.

The food's decent - 2 of the dishes we ordered were tasty, but the flat noodle dish was not so good. Big portions, good prices. The pits? Ridiculously bad service. There's 3 little girls clustered around the register yapping away, and only 2 tables occupied. We pretty much had to go get things for ourselves, including both getting and paying the check at the register. Same with the other table. We won't be going out of our way to come back, but the food's ok enough that we may consider eating here again if we happen to be in the neighborhood and nothing else grabs our eye.

Tac Quick is quickly becoming one of my favorite Thai restaurants in the city. After our friend Onur U. introduced us to a superb meal ordered exclusively off their secret "Thai menu," we were sold. I like to describe the Thai style here is un-americanized and bold in flavor. Every dish we've tried has featured intense and complex flavors that are not dumbed down for the casual Asian food customer. For example we love the Nam Nuang, which are pork meatball rolls that you roll yourself served with thin, steamed rice paper tons of mint, green lettuce, coriander, basil, and some pieces of green apple and peppers. It's a messy dish, but when you dip the rolls into the sauce it's a wonderful blend of fresh and contrasting flavors. My wife is a big fan of the Larb Kai, which is a lettuce salad with minced pork and onion served with a lovely sweetened citrus dressing. I'm a big fan of the Prik King - pork belly with green beans in roasted red curry paste. It's an intense and flavorful dish where the crunchy green beans compliment the intense bacony flavor of the pork belly and red chili in a smack-you-in-the-mouth fashion. For brave souls or card carrying non-tasters who adore spicy, intense flavors Tac Quick is your holy mecca!

The best spring roll sauce I've had! It wasn't thick and they put it on a plate with the red hot sauce in opposite corners so I could mix it together as I wished (like wasabi and soy sauce for sushi). I also had the duck and noodle bowl. Lots of duck in the dish. I'm going back!

Possibly the best casual Thai restaurant in Chicago! When one can't afford Arun's, please do visit Tac Quick! If you're avoiding the Americanized Thai fare found so commonly through the city, ask for their secret menu, or if you're feeling bold, greet the host, chef and wait staff with the traditional wai form of salutation. Not to miss: yum woon sen talay and the neua dad deaw [Thai beef jerky]. I also recommend any of the pan-seared noodle dishes. They are able to skillfully sear the noodles to ensure a crunch whilst not overcooking the other ingredients. Rarely can other Thai restaurants do this! This is the stuff that David Thompson of "THAI FOOD" would be proud!

This is absolutely the best Thai restaurant I have been to here in Chicago! I do have to admit, though the food was 5 stars, the service (at least last night) was more on the 3-4 star region. But I'll get to that in a bit. We started off with Moo Ping (grilled marinated pork skewers) which was amazingly delicious! Then we had Nam Tok (beef tenderloin salad) which was also good. Even at the requested mild, it was pretty spicy, so chompers beware! Up next was the Pad Mee (vermicelli noodle with pork & shrimp) - the noodles were absolutely amazing but it came with like... two shrimp. But it was still good. Love vermicelli noodles and this was very 'light' to eat. We also tried Kra Prao Moo Krob (crispy pork) off their "secret" menu which had a good flavor to it. It almost tops my favorite restaurant back home in L.A. Love that it is BYOB - AND open on Mondays! (Since you know Asians and Mondays don't mix). Conveniently right off the Sheridan Red Line. The (male) server we had was a bit abrupt - and told us the kitchen was closing in ten minutes even though they were open for another hour. So that was the only thing that chipped my shoulder a bit. But not enough to deter me from coming back for the good food. YAH-UM!

There was 9 of us. We ordered 10 dishes and shared family style. Everything was DELICIOUS and extremely flavorful. Including tax and tip, the cost was about $25 per person. Oh, did I mention this includes a drink too? We were lucky because our friend is from Thailand and hooked us up with dishes off the "secret" Thai menu. Whats so special about the "secret" menu? Well, its all written in Thai. Rumor has it there is an English translation online, but at the restaurant, there is no translation. So you may want to plan ahead if you want to try the dishes we had. Here was our dinner menu: 1) Papaya Salad with Fresh Blue Crab (Som Tum Poo Maa)--the blue crab was raw 2) Shrimp marinade with fish sauce (Goong Chae Nam Pla)--the shrimp was raw 3) Grill River Snail (Hoy Waan Yang)--something interesting to try, would not order again though.... 4) Boat Noodle (Kuay Teaw Reua) 5) Pork Hock with Rice (Kao Kha Moo) 6) Thai Sukiyaki Dry (Suki Heang) 7) Crispy On Choy (Yum Puk Boong Krob) 8) Thai Style Sparerib (See Kroang Moo Kra Tiem Prik Thai) 9) Chicken Basil with Century Egg (Kra Pow Gai Kai Yeaw Maa) 10) Sour Curry with Acaia Omelette (Keang Som Cha-Om Tod) Other than the snail dish, everything was delicious! I would eat this entire dinner again!!!! Service was great and dishes were prepared quickly. Great restaurant!

Got takeout on the hottest day of the summer with a bunch of friends. Good thing we didn't stay for dinner because their AC was out. Thankfully, food came out quite quickly. We had mussaman beef curry, fried rice, pad-khee mao, pad thai. Really loved the curry and pad-khee mao. Fried rice has good flavor but the rice was very wet & soft. Not that it was bad, just unexpected. Very good value for the amount of food. I'll come back to try the secret menu.

mmmmm Tac Quick. I walk by TAC Quick almost everyday and finally decided to grab dinner there with some girlfriends the other night. I was not disappointed! We split three appetizers: Spicy Basil Rolls - DELICIOUS! Like nothing I have ever tried before, definitely start with these Crab Rangoon - really good, but then again most crab ranogoon is Pot Stickers - different from pot stickers I have had before, but still very good For dinner we got a variety and everybody was VERY happy with what they ordered. Luckily all my friends like to share so we all got to try eachothers and I can confidently say that there was not one complaint about anything. We ordered: Larb Kai - light and flavorful, definitely a tasty healthy option Pad See Ew - I have to order Pad See Ew whenever I eat Thai food. This was one of the best I've had AND I had leftovers for lunch the next day :) Pad Thai - Very good Panang Curry - soooooo good, I really liked how many vegetables they put into the dish. Many times when I order Panang Curry it is mostly curry sauce with just a few veggies scattered in there. This one was filled with veggies and chicken, no skimping here! Tac Quick is also BYOB which I always appreciate. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because it smelled kind of funny when I walked in.

I haven't been to TAC Quick for a year or two. I've enjoyed the food in the past, but I was disappointed tonight -- the flavors were not as vivid as I remembered, and the quality of ingredients was not up to par. Tom kha soup did taste good, though I prefer straw mushrooms to the bit white ones in TAC's soup (and where was the galangal?). Moo ping tasted fine, but the pork was a train wreck, very gristly. Special basil brisket had good basil flavor and the meat was OK, save for a couple of gristly strips. It was too salty for my taste, and was served over a huge mound of gloppy rice. Pad see ew was also a bit gummy (the noodles could have been fried longer, but the broccoli went too long) and lacked flavor; the pork was a little chewy and also lacked flavor. Too bad. I used to come here just for the food (the ambiance, which seemed cute on my first visit, is unappealing: very noisy, rather spartan), but I don't think I'll return.

I didn't even stay for the food, the service was so bad! When I walked in, they were very short with me, and when I sat down, my waiter was very rude. I told them that I would not be eating there because I didn't appreciate how I was being treated and she said "okay, that's fine!" NOT recommended.

Hit or miss with the entrees for me, including those on the "secret menu". Apps, cucumber salad and smoothies are solid. I've been here several times, ordered pick up and delivery from here as well. Tac Quick is okayy....the restaurant is cute and right off the Red Line, plus it's next to a liquor store, ( a nice place to be for a spot that's BYOB, if you ask me). But again, every entree I have ordered from here has sounded a lot better than it has tasted.

I am so so sick of horrible and boring Thai food in Chicago. It's pad thai this, green curry that and oh it comes with a choice of tofu, chicken, beef, and seafood. Give me a break! Tac Quick was surprisingly different in that they offer food I've never tried before. With a name like Tac Quick and located in the corner near the Sheridan red line station, it's quite easy to walk past this place. It was an article in a magazine that brought this restaurant to my attention. Tac Quick is apparently Grant Achatz's go-to Thai restaurant and I started to frequent this place from then on. It would be mad not to since I used to live 10 minutes away from it. What you should look for is their not-so-secret Thai menu! In it are rare Thai dishes you don't find in most places. Try their moo ping (grilled sweet pork skewers), fermented Isaan sausage served with chilli, peanuts, and raw ginger, duck noodles with meat falling off the bones and sweet caramelized pork belly. It is unbelievable! There's so many other exciting dishes that I didn't even get a chance to try. Service here was not the greatest but the food will be enough to make you come back for more. I want to ask that you skip the pad thai but they actually have the better pad thai in the city. So, you might want to add that to your list as well. =)

Tac Quick, I still love you. But. STOP SENDING OUT MUSHY RICE. It's gross. It sucks when everything else about a dish is perfect, but the rice is a giant mushball. Tsk tsk. To end on a positive note, the thai iced coffee is delicious.

I know some thai places will use fish sauce in their pad thai, but I had no idea this was coming. I do not eat meat and was a little bit horrified when I got my tofu pad thai, as It smelled like fish. My partner also ordered pad thai but a meat version. He eats all sorts of animals so he didn't mind, but he did not dabble far into his meal because he felt it tasted bland. As an appetizer he ordered spring rolls (which I did not like) and he ordered this cooked pork on a stick (which he did enjoy). I really wanted to like this place and Thai food in general, I suppose, but it just may not be my cup of tea. I did enjoy however, the BYOB.

I might have found the best Thai place in Chicago. The Secret Menu has some wonderful gems, such as the Thai beef jerky, pork spring rolls (which you can roll yourself!), and the curried shrimp/scallop/squid/clam. The place serves delicious Tom Kha, which is a staple for any Thai restaurant. I didn't get a chance to drink a Thai iced tea, since we brought our own wine. There is a reasonable corking fee, so it's definitely a good place to enjoy good food with your own alcohol. I'll come here again to try more dishes, especially on their fabled Secret Menu.

  • Nichole F.

Tac Quick was sooooo yummy! Great service and great food! I had crab rangoon and my main entree was panang chicken. It was one of the best panang dishes I have ever had. And they are BYOB with no cork fee! awesome find!

  • Marie K.

I clearly come here too much, as the staff knows my order and recognizes me...the pad Thai is delicious, and so is everything else I or my friends have tried. The staff is polite and the food comes out fast. It gets crowded on weekend evenings, so I usually grab mine to go.

  • Tatawan P.

Tac Quick, you proved yourself again! I found yet another amazing Tac-Quick-only Thai dish. Get their Shrimp Paste Rice (khao khluk kapi). The attention to detail and actually using the right ingredient makes this dish awesome and a real Thai flavor that combines sweet, salty, sour tart and spicy. This place channels a lot of their energy and talent on several really good dishes so why bother ordering typical sorts of stirfried noodles, curry or crab rangoons (?!)-- they gotta have it on the menu cuz they're in 'merica but man I'm glad for their passion on the one they serve up well.

Went in for dinner with my roommate the other night and if not for the slow service it would have been a 5 star. While waiting for him, I decided to have an app. Fried tofu, I'm sure not creative choice but it was overfried and hard. The Pad Mee on the other hand was just great! Lots of pork and shrimp with fried egg, a melange of fun and tasty flavors that was even better the next day for lunch. Very reasonably priced $17 each for an app and entree, plus its BYOB so you can bring in a bottle of wine. Cute atmosphere, kind of cold inside the dining room, the table by the door were wearing their coats. Will definitely be back as I live around the corner and love Thai food.

Found this gem on Eater 38 list, came here on a Friday evening around 7pm and was able to be seated immediately (party of 2). Based on other Yelp reviews we tried the "secret menu" and tried 3 dishes: 1) Kuay Teaw Kleua Kai - wide rice noodle with chicken, onion and leaf lettuce served with Sriracha sauce 2) Pad Pong Kari Talay - Karee curry with shrimp and squid in coconut milk 3) Kra Prao Kha Moo-Stir fried red braised pork hock with basil By far the Karee curry dish (2) was our favorite, there were giant pieces of squid and the texture of the curry with coconut milk was perfect! Portion sizes were big. Service was excellent, waitress brought us hot water given the cold weather without a fuss. Did not realize it was a BYOB and definitely will be back some beverages next time!

We are continuing on our Thai restaurant tour & came with our trusted friend. We ordered moo ping - VERY tender & juicy, so much better than Opart koong chae nam pa - amazing! never though raw shrimp would be good gaeng som cha om tod - never imaged curry to be sour basil duck - YUMMMM tom sab - REALLY spicy but so warming beef with mixed-ins - surprisingly good with rice, eggs, dried shrimp combined into mouthfuls cooked sea snails - ok, rubbery sticky rice with red bean paste inside - yum steam rice pudding - yum another amazing meal with lots of new discoveries both of food & self.

Best Thai place in Chicago. We eat here almost on a weekly basis. Their Penang curry and pad Thai are phenomenal. The chicken satay and grilled squid apps are also very good. Highly recommended! Five stars!

Well I will just come out and say it. Tac is my favorite restaurant in town. It is very difficult to pin down one restaurant to be your favorite. Chicago just has so many yummy places. But for taste, value, and consistency, I just have not been able to find any place better. I can't tell you how many times I've eaten here. Certainly- there has been one or two times that they might have been a little off. But over 7 years...their track record is super. I order off both the regular menu and the Thai menu. My favorite dishes are the "thai beef jerky" appetizer, Kra Phrao Kai Yeow Ma (which looks weird but tastes yummy), and fried catfish, all off the thai menu. I'm sure some of you may wonder how catfish could ever make anyone's "best" dish, and I can't believe it myself, but it's true. Catfish. And you'll be fine with the standard pad thai and tom kha too. I had the pleasure of eating at Arun's several years ago, and don't get me wrong, it was a wonderful and special place. But a few days after, my husband turned to me and said..."for $240, we can have one meal at Arun's, or six at Tac"....we both agreed- Tac is "our place" forevermore :-) I still stand by that opinion today. Now if you'll excuse me...I think I just decided where I'm going to out to eat tonight...

Easily one of the better Thai places you'll find along the lakefront. We had delivery and it arrived ahead of schedule. The portions are a bit on the small side compared to standard take-out joints but the quality of the food more than makes up for it. Everything from standard fare to their "secret menu" - which is essentially real thai food most places are too scared to sell. I make work up to those items eventually but in the mean time they cook the classics very well. Eventually we'll eat at the location. Delicious! Oh, and I HIGHLY reccommend the Thai Jerky! It's a bit pricey but delicious if you're a jerky aficionado.

The food here is kind of "meh" to me. Everything tastes ok but nothing spectacular that I expect from a Michelin recommended restaurant. And the Yen Ta Fo is really weird. I will try to order something from the secret menu next time.

This is the place when I am craving some boat noodle soup just like the one you would get at an outdoor thai market in Bangkok. Only thing different is that their bowl and seating is much fancier. The nam nueng is pretty tasty and something you can't really find in Chicago. The fried Som Tum is something new I have seen in Thailand but something that is a great idea but really needs some more perfection. As for the service, is it great? NO it is not great depending on the day and server. It is a very it or miss some day I get great attention the next day I can get someone I have to go and grab to get some help.

My favorite Thai restaurant. I love everything about this place but obviously most of all is the food. Like K.T. my favorite is the boat noodle dish. It's perhaps one of my favorite dishes in the world. It's so incredibly flavorful with a ton of different ingredients in a gigantic bowl. I can never finish the whole thing. Whenever friends would come in from out of town I would demand they go to Tac Quick at some point and they were all equally impressed. The staff is pretty amazing. Always incredibly friendly and willing to explain anything on the menu that you might not understand. The have the most fun music playing in the background and the atmosphere is chic. Perhaps the most surprising thing about Tac Quick is how affordable EVERYTHING is on the menu. With the quality of this restaurant I'm surprised it's not 2x as expensive as it is. They don't sell alcohol but it is BYOB so you can just walk 1/2 a block down to the liquor store and grab some wine. Again, cutting down on costs. The restaurant has never rushed us or made me feel like they expected anything but a leisurely and enjoyable dinner. What's more, if I remember right they stay open pretty late (~11 pm). I was really lucky while I lived in Chicago because my boyfriend lived right down the street. We would go to Tac Quick maybe a couple times a month and never tire of it. Love you Tac Quick!

Tac Quick has some good Thai cuisine; they are the real deal, with a broad base of flavorful dishes. So, the food quality is solid. The reason I didn't rate them higher overall is because this restaurant is chronically understaffed, and their service is SLOW. On several different occasions I've been there, it's taken 10-15 minutes to even get an ice tea and silverware from the server after being seated, and more than a half hour to get an ordered appetizer. My boyfriend and I were recently at dinner here on a Friday night, and an hour after we'd placed our order, we still hadn't gotten our Crab Rangoon appetizer or our entrees. What was especially frustrating was that other people that came in after us seemed to be getting their food; and after we complained for the second time, all our food magically came out in about 10 minutes. So, check this place out if your looking for good Thai food, but don't be in any kind of hurry. Be especially wary going here on a Friday or Saturday night, unless you're prepared to spend over an hour waiting on your meal to arrive.

Really liked this place. Server was so nice. We were talking for like, 30 minutes before reading the menu, and she didn't mind that we were never ready to order! Crab rangoon was yummy. I also liked my ginger entree. What I usually get at thai places. Something about the atmosphere is what did it for me. I found it to be a perfectly sized space, and so totally aesthetically pleasing. It's no wonder we were talking for so long! I will surely be back when in the hood!

Yummy. This is my go to when I want Thai delivered. Panang curry is delish, I always add veggies & chicken, and it's enough for several meals. I also love the pad woon sen w/seared tofu, and while they aren't technically thai...their japanese gyozas are awesome. It's super reasonable, they deliver fast, and they're really sweet.

This was my first time coming here after lots of people raving about it to me. I went here with 4 other friends and we were able to sit down right away even having a decent sized group. The wait staff brought us both the normal menu and the "secret" menu. We ordered up a lot of different dishes from both the regular and "secret" menu. Most of the food ordered was from the "secret" menu getting the sausage and rice, spring rolls and chicken in thai sauce for appetizers. All of the dishes were extremely good and I paid the most attention to the chicken and couldn't get enough of the sauce. I ended up getting the egg noodles and duck because I'm always a sucker for duck on a menu. It was extremely delicious and the duck was nice and tender and the noodles were really tasty as well. The only downside to the night is that it was insanely hot outside and the air conditioning wasn't working too well and it made things a bit on the uncomfortable side. But, the food was awesome and I can't wait to go back

after months and many deliveries from Tac Quick, I added 2 more stars. I still stay away from their chicken dishes, but have to compliment them on their consistency with delivery. Always fast and accurate deliveries have earned points with me!

I come here for the boat noodle since this place is the only place I've tried so far who does this right compare to every place in Chicago. The restaurant smells like washroom though when you walk in. It kinda kills your apetite a little. The service isn't so great either but what do you expect from people who barely speaks english.

  • Leigh J.

I always get the Kra Phrao Kai Yeow Ma, which is spicy ground chicken with whole crisp fried basil leaves served over deep-fried black duck eggs and sticky white rice. The minced chicken is so delicious it would taste good sprinkled over dirt-and yet the real star of this dish is the crispy basil, which adds a delicate crunch and burst of flavor to every bite. If you haven't tried thousand year duck eggs the colour might come as a bit of a surprise - they are black - but they taste like tasty deep-fried hard-boiled eggs and provide a nice balance to the spicy chicken. You have to ask for the secret menu to get it (it's not on their regular menu).

I would strongly recommend NOT eating here! The first time I ordered, I ate crab rangoon and a tofu soup which made me VOMIT for the ENTIRE NIGHT. I missed work the next day and felt horrible for 24 hrs. THIS PLACE IS UNSAFE!!. My next review will be with the health department.

Some of the best, more flavorful Thai food I have had in the city. As many reviewers have mentioned, definitely ask for the special "Thai Menu", our favorite so far from it is the "Boat Noodle," which is a really flavorful broth with noodles and tons of beef. The broth is strong and spicy with a distinct lemongrass flavor, it's absolutely delicious. The menu describes it as pungent, and it is, but in a very good way. I wish I could order just a huge bowl of the broth, I don't even want/need the noodles or beef. Off of the regular menu the Panang Noodle is my favorite. Delicious spicy coconut peanut curry over wide crispy fried noodles. The noodles are hard and crispy at first but let them soak in the delicious panang sauce and they get soft and chewy and oh-so delicious. Comes with chicken and shrimp and plenty of broccoli and peppers, everything in the dish tastes so good slathered in the amazing panang sauce. Also love the crab rangoon, the filling is well seasoned with pepper which really makes this typical appetizer extra special. Served with a delicious spicy sweet sauce. Well priced, big menu, nice little restaurant literally a few steps off the Sheridan red line. Ask for the "Thai Menu" and enjoy an awesome meal! (BYOB).

I loved it! Found this place on yelp while looking for something nearby. We started off with the crab ragoons and then had their spicy basil shrimp fried rice. Portions were decently good too. I probably would go back if I'm ever in the area afain.

Yes. I love good Thai food and I love having the option to BYOB...Tac Quick has both. I was kinda unsure about this place because it doesn't look too appealing or upscale from the outside, but when I tried the food, it was definitely worth the journey. If you are looking for a great appetizer, order the freaking Moo Ping. It's a tender pork dish with an unbelievable (and kinda spicy) sauce. If you are in a group, make sure you order a couple of these because they are really good and go really quick. For the main course I got the Khao Moo Dang, which I loved. If you don't know what this is by just the name (which I didn't), this is a mix of Chinese sausage and BBQ pork loin served over rice. I mean this was really good, but everything that everyone in my group ordered was really good. So basically this place is great and the fact that it's a BYOB spot is also a plus. Tac Quick is very reasonably priced and definitely a place to check out. BOOM MOO PING!

Not too bad. Not too bad at all. My dude and I got home from a four day weekend of camping and were starving. My only rule was that it couldn't be something grilled. We went with Grubhub. We went with Thai. We went with Tac Quick. Our order was basic and small being that we were due at a BBQ just a couple hours after. We went with the Tac Quick fried rice and Pad See Ew. Both were excellent. The beef in the rice was a little tough but I'm willing to overlook it. Delivery was very fast... about 25 minutes. Next time I'm going to get a REAL, serious order in, but we enjoyed what we had today.

I'm becoming more and more of a fan of Thai food, as I discover places like TAC. It's BYOB (which saves you a little penny or two)... bring your own corkscrew...theirs will shred your cork. They have a regular menu, that they give to patrons when you walk in, and a not-so-regular menu that they hand to those who look... how shall we say... "adventurous". For the rest of us, you have to ask for the secret menu, but it's worth it. We ordered Chicken Cashew from the main menu. It was okay.. not great, but not bad. I've had much worse. We then went to the secret menu for the balance of our meal... I wanted to order Pad Ped Pla Duk (stir-fried catfish) but our waitress said that it was a bit 'boney', that night... so i ordered a chicken with basil and ancient duck eggs... mmmmm, delicious. Bits of ground chicken stir-fried with crispy whole basil leaves... and four halves of blackened hard-boiled egg. (tasted much better than it probably sounds). The guys like the eggs... the girls not-so-much. All liked the crispy basil leaves. We also had some sort of fried pork and basil, delicious also... and then a Pad Thai omelette with chicken and glass noodles... warm and yummy. Came with three spices on the plate... chili powder (plenty spicy), sugar and some other 'wonderful' spice. All of the dishes were plentiful with food, and the plates were very over-sized, so they took up a lot of table space, so we appropriated the little 2-seater table next to us, and put our "waiting" food there, like a mini-buffet. Our waitress waited until we had eaten to recommend that we should have tried the boat noodles (maybe she didn't think we were adventurous enough??). Service was good, prices were decent... we parked almost outside the front door... four stars from me. I'd go back.

I was quite excited for some Tac Quick once I sat down and surveyed my surroundings... spacious, clean, somewhat modern space. And, I appreciate Tac Quick's candor: it's stated loud and proud on the menu that the only kind of crab that will be making it in your rangoons is the imitation variety. Fine by us, no rangoon snobbery going on here! However, the rangoon were woefully average. Next up: Tom Kha soup. Wow. As Colleen mentions, it was the bright spot of our meal. Really, a delight. The Pad Thai, however, was a bit lackluster... just missing something, a little off. And then the tea snafu per Miss CC's review-- SIGH. The food was okay, but in the end, the service just really fell short. Tic, tac, toe.... unfortunately Tic Tac, I think you're out.

After slogging through many other thai restaurants, I've finally come across one that combines the three most important aspects of food: -good flavors (including spices) -decent portions -good price Finally found it at Tac Quick. Pad khee mao actually filled me up, and made me sweat a bit.

Its been a couple of months since I visited Tac Quick. Our group was there on a Friday night - and it was quite busy. They do BYOB which is a good thing. The food is pretty decent. Loved the jungle curry - it was deliciously spicy. The thing that put me off was the service. It was painfully slow. They cannot handle a crowd. There are a lot of other Thai and Asian places with good food and good service that one can go to.

Ok, so I gave Tac Quick another whirl...and I'm pretty sure it'll be my last. The food, OK. The service, slow. The Tom Kha soup, the bright spot. My biggest BEEF? The server forgot my hot tea, no biggie. But it appeared on the bill, so I asked for it...and knew I'd be sitting with my gal pal for a while longer, so why not? She also ordered one. So, what does our server do? Instead of just giving her a tea on the house (which is WATER), he goes and reconstructs the entire bill to add the $1.50. Even though mine showed up ONE HOUR late. Seriously? I don't chimp for free stuff, but that is just beyond tacky. It really irked me for some reason...we just laid down $40 on dinner, and YOU forgot the tea, so at least comp mine...DUH! The food doesn't really do it for me. I wish it did, it's so close...but I'm just not a fan. I'd rather BYOB at Pizza Rustica across the street, which I LOVE. Hot tea? pfffft. Hot mess.

Its amazing! If you want Authentic Thai food. This is the place! They have a great secret menu that you have to ask for. Its spicy and great! Everything in the menu's are wonderful. I have had the mild curry, panang curry and the green curry from the regular menu and I am addicted to them! Perfectly spicy for my taste as I like spicy but just a touch of it. Not medium but more light to medium. The soup noodles from the secret menu are incredible! I had a duck noodle soup and was medium spicy and I loved it! Have not had any ok dish. Every time we come here the people in our table are amazed. And it's BYOB and dishes around $8-$12. Just perfect!

I came here once by myself and had an okay time, considering the delectable food and unbearable amount of Mariah Carey being played. They sat me in weird spot in the corner, away from everyone, and the table was backed so far in that I had no choice but to sit facing the window... like I was the lonely bad kid in time out. When the server came I would have to fully turn around to order. The Tom Yum soup was one of the best I'd ever had and the spicy basil was okay but nothing that would get me craving Tac Quick again. The service was slow and one thing that at first amused me... then made me want to run for the hills: they played only Mariah Carey the entire time... and then when the disc was over and you'd think you were in the clear, they'd just restart the entire cd. It's like that yall, like that yall, like th,th, th,th, like that yall. Never again. I like a little Mariah, but cannot take a heavy dose like that. The food also didn't have enough spice and I asked for a bit extra but defo wasn't noticeable. I'm thinking that maybe you have to come a few times so they'll get know you and know that you're not a pussy when it comes to heat levels before they really dish it out.

I come down here when I want to get out of the hood and grab some yummy thai food. It has been my experience that all of the food at Tac is good. The Pad Thai is really great and what it should be. The curries could have a little more sauce to them but are damn delicious. The portions aren't huge- which I actually like. Service-wise, this place is rough. On two separate occasions i've been either ignored or borderline scoffed at. Once they simply rejected a foursquare check-in coupon that we presented, as if they hadn't posted it. As if it wasn't in our hand for her to see. Who does that? Every restaurant should accept a coupon, even if expired. That's just bad service. But i'm easy going and I like the food so I will take this place for what it is...returning infrequently.

Well, Tac Quick looked liked such a cute option and I LOVE Thai food. I actually gave Tac Quick 2 tries even though the first time left me pretty disgusted. I wish the food inspector had seen what I did. I'll keep this brief. On my first attempt, I was STARVING. The place was empty and I wasn't even sure if the server/host was an employee or a patron. The fact that he didn't even acknowledge me didn't help my confusion. Remember, I was the only person in the place. I had to approach him and ask if I just sat myself. Without a smile or anything more than a 2 second glance, he said "Yeah, where ever." Long story short - I ordered the tofu pad see ewe, which was swimming in almost sickeningly sweet sauce. I understand there is a fine line between over-sauced and dry pad see ewe. However, you shouldn't be able to tilt your plate and have the sauch roll down into a pool. Plus, the dish tasted more like desert noodles because the sweet was over-powering. But the part that was so appalling????? THE SERVER WAS CLIPPING HIS NAILS IN THE RESTAURANT AT THE HOST STAND WHILE I WAS EATING! I'd take a bite and hear the click of his nail clippers. DISGUSTING and unsanitary. Second attempt - gave the pad see ewe a second chance hoping it might have been a fluke. No, it was again sickeningly sweet and drenched. The service wasn't much better - the server never even looked at me. There was one other table who were also non-plussed with the service. I'm guessing the manager and maybe one of the kitchen staff were sitting out in the restaurant with the server reading the newspaper. Out of the 3 of them, not one was paying any attention to the only 2 tables in the place. After waving my arm and speaking up for more water, I finally had to STAND UP, WALK UP TO THE THREE AND ASK THEM FOR MORE WATER! Needless to say, there will be no third chances. Bad food. Bad service.

Alright, I submit. This place deserved an update and a second go. This time I ordered off the secret yellow menu. I was told this is THE way to go. The duck with noodles had a yummy, perfectly spicy flavor that complemented the duck. The was a ton of noodles in my bowl and I could only eat about 1/3 of it. You really get your money's worth here. This was more like the positive Thai experiences I've had in the past. I'm not generally a soup person, but I am thankful I took my SO's recommendation on this. My issue this visit was with the spotty service we received. Our waitress ran away from us before we could ask for the special menu and didn't come back for quite a while. She didn't seem too excited to take care of us during the meal, either. The restaurant wasn't packed and it wasn't a weekend, so I hope this is a random off night. After I return, I guess I'll find out.

I was curious about the thai food standard in chicago so my buddy led me here. Oh boy it was a pleasant surprise. First i love how there is a not-so-secret secret menu. Makes me feel privileged that perhaps there is a tiny chance that im the only person who knows about it! Also it makes the decision process easier cause why would you order off the regular menu when the secret one offers so many options! I like the beef jerky and moo ping appetizer. Not something i've seen at other thai places. As for the rest of the dishes, i am sorry my fellow yelpers...but i cannot remember the names of the dishes my friend ordered. It was a pork dish and a tom yum soup dish off the secret menu. They were all fantastic. The only let down of my trip to tac quick was that our waiter forgot our order of the much raved about boat noodles! This place is definitely on the top of my list next time i am in town again. Sorry to my regular thai restaurant in michigan but tac quick is now my out of town mistress. After all different area code so it shouldn't matter right?

OMG! This doesn't even warrant one star. The flavors make zero sense to me. Dumplings? Not. Little penny sized i don't know what. noodle soup? no flavor. pad we? whatever that's supposed to be, i dont know. it sucked. hot and sour soup. how about vinegar soup. dry meat. the worst! grant ashatz go to? give me a freakin break. We love Thai and try new place from time to time, always disappointed, it seems. we always head back to the best we've found in our neighborhood - Pho's on Lincoln yelp.com/biz/phos-hot-an… . The food is fresh and delicious. If you are into spicy, they'll light your face on fire.

Everyone has a favorite Thai place these days and Tac Quick is easily mine. If you got off the Red Line at the Sheridan stop and headed south, you'd pass this place and never give it a second thought. This would be the biggest gastronomical mistake you could ever make. The food is absolutely incredible here. They have a menu which they will offer you, but I would recommend that you also ask for the Thai Menu which has the real treats on it. HIGHLY recommend the thai beef jerky appetizer. I almost always get Green Curry dishes, but they have a great selection of authentic Thai soups that have served me very well in the bitter Chicago winter of 2010-2011(Try the boat noodles!!). On top of it all, it's BYOB. Try and have a bad time here with a couple of bottles of wine; I dare you. The only thing wrong with this place is the name. Tac Quick? They should call it "EPIC THAI PALACE". ... maybe it's best I didn't come up with the name.

I really wish yelp had the option of half stars... 'cuz this place is worth 3 n half stars! The main positive is the food. Its delicious!! The options are aplenty and considering that we were a party dominated by vegetarians, we had no trouble customizing any of the entrees. They don't serve alcohol, but you can BYOB, which is always nice. However, the staff is probably not experienced in handling a crowded restaurant because the service was slow. And one of my friends noticed that the table was still greasy and sticky from the previous diners which I hate when that happens. Enough of the nitpicking, overall I still feel that the place will do just fine if it continues to put out good spicy food.... I'm thinking about the jungle curry and my mouth's watering :)

The food here was just OK. I do have to say that I was hoping to like it a lot more than I did. To be honest it wasn't really anything impressive. Maybe I'll have better luck next time ordering a different dish.

Extensive menu for all levels of adventurousness. Speedy service, large and sharable portions. BYO...yes, it's pretty much everything you need. Best Thai I've had in Chicago so far. I got the "vegetable" option for one of the noodle plates and was pleasantly surprised to encounter things like eggplant and zucchini in addition to the standard carrot, cabbage, mushroom deal. By the end of the meal the chef was really cranking up the fish sauce - the smell permeated the place. If that kind of thing doesn't bother you, you are in for a good time.

Eh. This place seems to be going downhill. The last several times I've gotten food from here, it hasn't been, well, good. I'm looking at a tasteless dish and soft mushy rice. Previously I've had similar issues with their food.

Tac Fail. This was my first and likely last time coming here. Bland and boring food with bland and boring service. Two appetizers and two entrees and none of it was redeeming. My Peanut Curry was ok but I've definitely had better. The beef dish my friend had was terrible. The beef looked like dried little pieces of tire tread. So many great reviews for this place I was hoping it would be better but I'm more than happy to stick to my favorites over this place.

Food: Above Average Service: Read Below Atmosphere: Quaint Price: Fair Went here on a recommendation! Employees were very friendly and helpful, service was spotty at best! Food did come out quick once our order was taken. First time I had the Thai version of Green Curry with Chicken and an omelet below it. Chicken Fried Rice was good and the Pad See Ewe was good as well. I would recommend this to friends and would go back!

This is my favorite Thai / restaurant in the area. It's cheap, delicious, BYOB and five minutes from my apartment. The vibe in the restaurant is very casual and gets really packed near 7pm on a Friday or Saturday night. Always a nice crowd. The service is very kind and welcoming as well. I love their cucumber salad...yum. Make sure you try a couple of their appetizers to go along with the red/white you brought along. You won't spend much money here, and I promise you'll leave satisfied. I usually just stick with one of their noodle dishes, all of which are CHEAP and YUM. Definitely give this place a shot if you haven't already. Kind of in a weird area, but if you're looking for (quick) Thai, you won't regret it. I also order out from here quite a bit and my food is always ready in 10 minutes. Tac QUICK.

I was introduced to this restaurant by a friend who was already familiar with the "secret menu". Luckily she informed me of this wonderful option because the choices on the Secret Menu were delish. The pork dishes tend to be my favorites and the portions are large and inexpensive. Service is less than stellar, but the food is worth a return visit. Decent outdoor seating if you don't mind the sound of the el going by every few minutes.

I've had a number of their dishes and they are good. the Pa Lo (pork belly, egg and tofu in savory brown sauce) is to die for. Their secret-menu is delicious. I'm not a fan of their curries as they are very thick and lackluster. If it wasn't for the Pa Lo, I probably wouldn't come as much.

An absolute hidden gem. We've eaten at everyThai place- this is absolutely the best in the city. They give you huge portions, wonderfully prepared. Their beef pad see ew is to die for. They also have amazing Chinese dishes - the beef fried rIce is the best I've ever experienced. Their egg rolls are unlike any I've ever eaten. When we learned they delivered as far as our area, we were elated and told all our neighbors!

It's a Thai restaurant. The reviewers who insist that Tac Quick is one-of-a-kind-authentic-better-than-the-king-himself-eats are pretty amusing. It's a Thai restaurant! But the food is good, served fast, not overly greasy, and inexpensive. Definitely B some of your own B and enjoy a Quick bite.

Great place with authentic Thai cuisine. Definitely order from the "Secret Menu" as it offers different and unique dishes you will not see at other restaurants. I highly recommend the beef jerky, pork necks and grilled octopus. It was some of the best Thai I had in the city.

The truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. BOAT NOODLES = 5 STARS. (I asked for pork instead of beef, though) Great service. Free Wi-Fi. So why the 4 stars? My friend.. found.. a teeny piece of hair in her food. Yeah, I know, I know. They did indeed comp her meal.. and I know her experience was not as great as mine, but I'm obviously bias because my boat noodles were PURE perfection. Haha.

This is another restaurant where I am a regular, and for good reason! Go to Tac Quik. Ask for the special menu. Order anything off that page. I really like the noodles in soup. The only thing I didn't really like was the seafood curry. The seafood itself was fine, but the flavour were so bland. All of the dishes have really strange descriptions, but they are all soooo good! The only thing I can't figure out is why it's never that crowded. I guess it's because that little intersection of Sheridan and Irving Park is a little Ghetto (by my snotty Lakeview definition).

I've always been a fan of Thai cuisine, but whoa, this white girl had no idea what Thai food could be until dining at Tac Quick. We ordered from the not-so-secret "secret" menu and enjoyed a magical dish called Kuay Teaw Tom Yum Muu Sab which must be Thai for "lip-smacking, soul-soothing yumminess" (although the menu simply translates it as "rice noodles with ground pork, BBQ pork, and fried wonton in a spicy and sour broth"). When I raved to our waitress about how delicious everything had been she simply smiled and said, "I know".

Coming from South-East Asia and having lived there for over 20 years, I know what good Thai food tastes like. I moved to Chicago almost 2 years ago and have been dying to get a taste of home...... and then I found Tac Quick - it is totally satisfying! Ask for the Thai Menu and you can't go wrong. You may need to be a little bit more adventurous than normal, but pretty much all the dishes are authentic and taste like the real deal. Also less sweet and greasy than most other Americanized Thai dishes. The dish I love and miss the most is the Tom Yum noodle soup. Sour, spicy and sweet. You've got to try it.

Nice little place just off the Red Line. I'll say this, the Tom Kha was superb. So so good. However, the pad Thai was good but not mind blowing. I simply wasn't over whelmed by the place. I'm not super keen on BYOB places and I didn't like the seating set up here. It's in my neighborhood so I'd probably go back.

Hands down best thai restaurant between lincoln park, lakeview, and wrigley. Pros: - Very good mix of athentic dishes and comfort thai food - BYOB - Great service Cons: - Closes early - Serving size is a bit small Must try: - Pad thai omlette (avoid shrimp in this dish): pad thai made with glass noodles wrapped in giant omlette; very generous serving size - Pa lo: Very thick beef/brisket stew that is sweet and savory. Serving size is small but mixes well with rice.

When you order from the special Thai menu (you can see it on their website tacquick.net ), you simply can't go wrong. I can't explain why you have to ask the waitress for the menu, they really should just give it to you when you walk in the door. But do yourself a favor and save the pad thai, pad see yew, and masamun curry for your favorite local Thai place. When you make a special trip to TAC quick, and you really should if you like Thai food, then ask for the Thai menu and stick to it. If you've heard of it before, odds are TAC Quick doesn't do it any better than your favorite place. The only dish you should order off the regular menu is the crispy on choy. Man that dish is outstanding. Bitter, nutty green battered in a fluffy tempura fried to a beautiful crispy texture. It's really a special dish. Like I said, there are no misses on the Thai menu. The boat noodles are made with soft, thin noodles and a deep, exceptionally beefy (with plenty of anise) broth. The moo ping bursts with bbq flavor. The green curry with Thai eggplant served over an omelet has creamy coconut flavor and the eggs are perfectly fluffy on the inside and crispy on the outside. All the salads are exceptionally bright, loaded with lime juice and fish sauce. You just can't go wrong. I should also add, TAC Quick and Spoon Thai are totally different, but equally good. Same deal at both, order from the Thai menu and you're all set, but there are few dishes that are the same. I think it's really cool that Chicago has multiple authentic Thai restaurants to choose from.

Yum! Everything was flavorful and delicious. We stuck to ordering from the specials on the chalk board and the "secret" Thai menu that a lot of the other reviewers referenced. That was a good call. To start. The papaya salad (the one with peanuts) was perfectly spicy. The thai ribs (I think that is what they were called) were really flavorful. For the main event. The duck curry wasn't on the menu, but they always have it. I had a bite of my friend's and it was delightful. Had a bite of the pork belly special, too, and that was outrageous. I had the pad-thai-wrapped-in-an-omelet dish - it was interesting and delicious. Like a lot of the other reviews... can't go wrong with the special menu. Prices were super reasonable. Oh, and BYOB is always a good thing, too!

WOW, This is my new favorite Thai restaurant. Go there now. Ask for the thai menu and be adventurous with your ordering and you'll get a fantastic and authentic meal without the 20 hr. plane trip to Bangkok. The "secret" menu is in both Thai and English so don't be shy. It is full of all the dishes I grew up with that are sadly lacking in most Thai restaurants. They do things "Thai-spicy" here so proceed with caution. I ordered everything "medium" and it still had us all sweating. We ordered the Moo Ping (pork skewers) Som Tum (Papaya Salad), Gang Som Cha Om Tod (sour curry soup with egg omelet), Pad WoonSen Haw Kai (Pad thai wrapped in an omelet) and Kao Kah-moo (tender braised ham hock). All the dishes were an A+ and the best I've had in Chicago. I can NOT believe I've lived here for so long without discovering this place. I'll be back to try everything on the menu, I've got my eye on the Pa-Lo (5 spice soup), Kao Mun Gai, and Chive dumplings... We also had the custard dessert and sticky rice with banana which were okay but both too oily for my taste. So don't bother saving room for dessert.

Hands down, a five-star place for Thai/Asian food. The catch is, ask for the "Thai menu," like many other yelpers also indicate. Don't worry, this "Thai menu" is written in English. Four of us spent a total of $80 including tax and a fat tip, and we walked out on cloud nine. Truly.very.happy. And full. Must-haves (on the special Thai menu unless otherwise stated): + Pork hock. You don't see this Chinese-influenced dish elsewhere in the city. + Glass noodle omelet. Yes, omelet. Not your typical Pad Thai. + Salad with dumpling skin, meat patty, fruits, herbs, innocent-looking chili peppers [beware!], and thick, sweet sauce. Think it's #2 on the Salad section of the Thai menu. + Banana leaf sticky rice. Yummerific dessert. A beverage/dessert menu item. + Fried chicken. The special chili sauce adds that magical umph to it. A regular *snort* menu item. ps: The hot water in the bathroom may cause third-degree scald, so yeah...

I have been back a few times now, and ordered many more things on the Thai menu. All the appetizers are amazing (I have now officially tried all of them). The ones that stand out are the Thai beef jerky and the Kai Tod (deep fried chicken served with a delicious sauce). In terms of other secret menu entrees, when they say spicy, they really really mean it. We've tried the Suki, which is a kind of gelatinous mess of rice noodles soaked in a red spicy broth, very tasty. The Yum Woon Sen Talay (which is a cold rice noodles dish served with seafood on top) is ridiculously spicy. My friend ordered this and it was very tasty, but after finishing it, he ordered some plain fried rice to get rid of the burn. My new favorite? The Tom Sab. This is some seriously spicy clear broth served with pork neck bones. Perfect if you have a cold or are trying to fight away any weather-related blues.

By far one of the BEST Thai (noodles) restaurants in Chicago & BYOB = 5 Star! Cant speak for the majority of the dishes, but Pad Thai & Pad See Eiw are FANTASTIC! Its not that big, but can accomodate small groups if neet be!

I have been here plenty of times. Many of the dishes are delicious but not every dish here is great. The waitresses are very nice and attentive. The restaurant decor is clean and contemporary. Nice but small seating area outside. My favorite dish is the basil chicken with the preserved duck egg. It's very flavorful especially if you like preserved egg and basil. There is a ton of basil in the dish. I suggest not getting the Kuay Teaw Kleua Kai (wide rice noodle with chicken and leaf lettuce). It's soggy and bland. Stick to their Pad See Ewe if you like wide rice noodles. Also the hot stir fried catfish was really dry and difficult to eat although the curry sauce was very good. Stick to their panang or jungle curry - the meat and veggies are a lot more edible. Their marinated fried chicken and grilled marinated pork skewers are awesome appetizers. The chicken was extremely tender and juicy and the skin was crispy with great spices. The dipping sauces are phenomenal. If you like Thai food you won't be disappointed in trying this place out.

Possibly the worst Thai food I've ever had. I went there with my girlfriend, and she agreed. We both love Thai but couldn't finish our meals (which NEVER happens). It tasted like a college freshman had mixed sriracha sauce and expired peanut butter with some limp pasta. Makes me nauseous just to think about it. I'm very surprised by all the positive reviews. AVOID!!

  • Jessica G.

Willing to give Tac Quick another chance, but just underwhelmed by my first try. We had the standard pad khee mao and ginger tofu. The sauce on the ginger tofu was flat and lacking the ginger punch I was looking for. The pad khee mao was ok, but was also lacking any sort of flavor explosion. The portion size was also quite small for the price. The atmosphere didn't do much for me either-a tad too cold and modern. I sat next to the windows and coudn't stop focusing on the dirty, food-stained curtains that kept brushing up against me. Perhaps next time I will try some soup. Trying to keep the hope alive. On the plus side, the service was super.

Superb Thai food - one of the better Thai restaurants in Chicago, in my opinion. They have an outdoor seating area, which is lovely in the summertime, except for the Red Line that roars past every 3 minutes and the random Thorek ambulance sirens and CTA buses.

Delicious thai food for a very reasonable price. Large choice of plates. The service is correct - the staff is very busy. Don't forget to bring a bottle of wine or beer as they only have soft drinks and tea in their menu.

want some snails?? yes please, want a pad thai that's wrapped like an omlet? yup yup! My favorite go to thai food place, it's not the best decorated and not the most comfortable seats, but the food is great and you get good service. if you want some real thai food, this is the place to go. byob.

HORRIBLE! My girlfriend and I went there yesterday afternoon (10/15/2010) and at the time it seemed fairly enjoyable. It wasn't until later that evening, the horrible factor set in. I had the Tac Quick fried rice with beef, and clearly it wasn't cooked properly because I got extremely ill later that night. Some people may think that it could of been something else that I ate, however that was the only thing I ate all day and I am still feeling the after shocks today. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE! It may seem inviting and lovely from the looks, but it's really just a place you will regret going to. Ps. I would put no stars, but it wouldn't let me, silly yelp.

I went to this place after watching it on Check Please and I really enjoyed the food, the people and the price. I think the combo make it deserving of 5 stars. They know what they are doing here. We ordered the Por Spring rolls which was perfect for three people. It's different, you roll your own rolls. I liked it, I think it made it fun plus it was good. I had the Kuay Teaw Kleua Kai (Stir fried wide rice noodle with chicken, onion). It was a nice change from the normal Pad Thai or Lad Nar that I usually order at other Thai places. The flavors were fresh and didn't have to many oils. I wish I lived closer so I could order food from them :( I will definately be back.

Pretty pedestrian Thai food, really. And that's not saying it's bad: I love even the standard Thai food, and surely, this gave me a decent Thai experience. But nothing special. We had some garlic noodles and some green curry, and they were good, just not outstanding. And we thought the meat portions in each dish were a little small. They also forgot to give us plasticware/chopsticks, which posed a problem on the run, and might have been a one-time oversight. But overall, good Thai food, though we've had better. And since there's a Thai restaurant on every block on the north side....

I'm not sure what my favorite dish at this place is called because my Thai friend ordered it in Thai off the secret Thai menu. It was fried Chinese broccoli with shrimp and one of the most delectable things I have ever eaten! I have never seen it served at another restaurant or even in Thailand. A must try! We also got boat noodles that had a succulent, sweet broth and excellent flavor. Also panang curry which was ho hum but I'll be happy to take the leftovers for lunch tomorrow. AND can't forget the EXTRA tall glass of thai iced tea which just perfectly complemented the whole meal. Extra points for being right off the L subway line, Sheridan station.

Sad to say, I have to disagree with the fella below me. The service was indeed quick, and really nice, but maybe I just ordered something bad. I got this salad that had ground chicken on it which, sure, I should have read the menu a bit better if I didn't want taco meat stuff alllll over the place, but it was just sort of cheap to me. The lettuce and dressing was good, but that was only about 30% of the salad. Eh. The crab rangoon was divine. Perhaps if I tried a noodle dish I could give a better review but I've definitely had way better thai in the city. Byob too, holla.

Ask for the secret menu. That's all you need to know. This is your key to gain access to Thai culinary delights. Preserved eggs, crispy basil, small chunks of spicy chicken, anise flavored broth. I relished the chance to eat with my hands as I made my own wraps from the food provided. I cannot wait to return and simply wish for something in comparison in Denver.

Wow, This is by far the best Thai food I have ever had in my whole life. The crispy pork dish on the authentic Thai menu was teeth shatteringly crispy. Thai beef jerky was just the most caramelized beefy snack ever. I also had the papaya salad which was very good and VERY spicy. I also recommend the spring rolls that you assemble yourself. I highly recommend this place and I would also recommend ordering off of the authentic menu.

I go to Thai Aroma for good food and bigger portions of it. I go to Tac for great Thai food that is extremely fresh and flavorful. Make sure you check out the special board. They have some interesting things on there at times. I've had the wild boar that was awesome!

Want typical red curry or pad thai? Don't go here. Want Thai sausage with fermented rice? Go here! This place serves up Thai food for Thai's. Ask for the Thai menu... just point at random stuff and you're ready for a taste sensation. It's right off the Sheridan stop of the redline. Service is ok, the food is grand.

Great tasting Thai, but get take out. The restaurant smells like a sewer. It was difficult to wait at the bar bc of the smell, and it's a real shame because the food is great. The pad Thai, crab ragout, and veggie combo were very good ranging from $8 to $12. The restaurant is also byob another plus. Parking is a little difficult, but the Shwridan el station is feet away.

So I had lunch here today and I was ready to give this place 5 stars. I had Moo Ping (marinated pork), Kao Soy (curry soup), Yum Woon Sen (glass noodle/chicken salad) and Kai Tod (marinated fried chicken). It was all extremely good, esp the Yum Woon Sen and it was all TRADITIONAL THAI FOOD. However, my lunch date thought that the sauces were a bit too traditional, a too fishy tasting....and yes, if you're not use to them....they do come off a bit strong. Well, as we're sitting outside, drinking sparkling wine (BYOB) and feeling the drizzle on our faces....I found a little 1x1 cm rock in my Yum Woon Sen. At first I thought it was a weird piece of my chicken so I picked it up with my chop sticks, took a closer look and nope, it was a rock. A pretty rock...but still a rock. My lunch date says: "In Thai tradition, maybe it's a sign of good luck since you didn't choke on it" Now that's FU*KING HILARIOUS! So therefore the 4 stars, not five. Plus they were out of ALL juices...and I wanted to mix my sparkling wine to make a mimosa.

3.5 stars. The food was decent. The service was very slooow. The crab rangoon wasn't bad but it wasn't amazing either, just standard fair. I had the Pad Ped which was a good choice. Stir-fried basil leaves, peapods, bell peppers, jalapenos and eggplants adorned the plate along with chicken in a lovely red curry sauce that was presented in an artistic way. Just enough to fill up my belly. My only complaint was that I wished my dish was spicier. I know you all look at me weird when I say I would like this dish to be Thai spicy, but when I say I want it spicy I mean SPICY! Maybe not burn my mouth off spicy, but something above and beyond what I would call medium spice, thank you very much. I do know my spice thresholds and wouldn't ask for something that I wouldn't be able to handle. Just sayin'.

The cool kids menu is where it's at. I have no idea what the regular menu is like, but if you're going to spend an evening in that shit neighborhood, I'd suggest going for the "Thai Menu." One of the apps included friend chili paste, which sounds like something that's impossible to accomplish. It was possible, and it was good. For an entree, we shared a dish that combined BBQ Pork, Ground Pork, Glass Noodles and Tom Yum Soup into one bowl. It has a name, but are you really going to remember it? It was splendid. The best part about the "Thai Menu" is that it featured a number of dishes that sounded terrific, but that I had never seen before in my Thai restaurant travels. Realistically, this is still Thai food, and it's not going to change your life, but it's really damn interesting Thai food. Try it.

My first two experiences with Tac Quick were good, not great. I had read such good things about it, but didn't get what was so good. But alas, it is all in the "secret menu." Since first experiencing the secret menu, I'll never order off it. The duck noodle soup is unreal. Perfect level of spicy, and generous amounts of duck and noodle. I'm tempted to get that every time, but one has to venture through the secret menu. Most recently, I enjoyed the red-braised pork hock (ankles) that was really good, and had the waitress tell me the correct way to eat it, which was informative. But most importantly, it was delicious. Oh, and for a secret menu appetizer, try the Thai beef jerky. Yummy! Oh, did I mention this place is BYOB? And just a few easy steps from my apartment? Yea. I love this place.

This was one of our favorite Thai Resturants in Chicago for many years. Unfortunately the quality of food has deteriorated in last coupe of months. The food we got yesterday was awful. Chicken satay which was great before was over cooked. Same with the catfish from Thai menu. Will be going somewhere else for Thai food.

  • Anpan W.

Gross. Really, people need to share that Thai menu authenticity with the rest of us. Give us a list of what to order. The pork skewer appetizer was the best part of our experience. I had beef lard nar. It was a soupy boiled meat mess that threatened to spill all over me. My friend's tofu pad se ewe was meh. The spring rolls were messy and cut into too large portions.

  • John W.

Even though every review on Yelp demands that you order off the Thai menu, I chose to start simple and order from their standard fare. Maybe it was laziness, or timidity, but the result is a lot of food envy and a plan to go back soon. In the meantime, what I had was fine in it's own right. The Pad Thai was good, the Egg Rolls were very good, but on par with what you'd get from any Thai joint. It didn't help that I spent the meal looking at the Thai menu and wondering what could have been. Don't be like me. Ask for the special menu and just go for it. Life's too short.

I see this spot off the Sheridan Red Line every time I take the train home. I've been meaning to stop in for a long time. After checking out reviews on here I came by this weekend with a few friends. Tac Quick is BYOB which was instantly an extra star. I grabbed a few bottles of wine after work and brought them with. I'm throwing another star at this review for the atmosphere. It was beyond low-key and I loved the lounge music. I was tempted to ask for their playlist. Despite getting crowded, it never felt like i had to shout to talk with my friends. We started with the pot stickers, which our waitress recommended because they were out of spring rolls. Strange that they were out of spring rolls...but the veggie pot stickers were awesome! A nice portion, easy to split, and very tasty. For my entree I went with the Chinese Broccoli with Tofu. Awesome. It was really spicy that I actually had to put my fork down, which was a good thing! The tofu was firm, flavorful, and mixed well with the vegetables and brown sauce. Fantastic experience. I 'm going to hold off on giving the restaurant 5 stars because they service is a little...too chill. Even though I was getting a little tipsy off the wine, it was noticeable that service lacks in attentiveness. With that said, a great way to spend a Friday night.

Authentic Thai place. Chicken larb, Khao Kha Moo and boat noodle are my favorites here. Service is good and price is reasonable. You do need to ask for the Thai menu to get a variety of dishes aside from your typical curry or thai noodle dishes. I love this place!!

THE most authentic Thai food I have and will ever have. I dined with some fellow restaurant-industry folk, and they agreed, you often can't even get Thai food this good at restaurants IN Thailand. They even offer two menus, a rather extensive one that has many familiar Thai dishes, and one that is exclusive and only available upon request. It's the "real" Thai food. The kind they make for themselves to eat, baby. We tasted: *Tom Sum Thai = Green Papaya salad *Crispy On Choy salad *Grilled pork necks *Basil Brisket *Tom Yum Khaa Moo = Spicy pork soup Every last one was absolutely superb. I ate almost all the pork necks, even though I was dining with 3 other people. The sauces were all very light on the palate, but not boring in any way. Some were even pretty spicy, especially the broth in the soup, but never overpowering. I was told that this is Grant Achatz' go-to Thai place in the city. That may be an added incentive for you to try it. Seriously though. This is the kind of place I would take anyone and everyone. Unassuming on the inside and outside for sure, but DO NOT be fooled. Stop in and prepare to be blown away. Duh-lish. P.S. TAC stands for Thai Authentic Cuisine.

Tac Quick is another authentic Thai restaurant that you could find next to Sherridan Red Line. I went there alone to try it out. Staffs here are Thai and the sevice is quick. My grilled pork neck tasted nice, and the dipping sauce was traditional but not very spicy. You can ask them to make it spicier if you are Thai like me. Lard Nar gravy is of the type I normally eat back in Bangkok, Thailand. It is the most traditional one I have had so far in Chicago. However, their mistake is that they put in the ginger. So, my dish also tasted like some other Chinese dishes, which kinda make me confused a little bit. Never found ginger in Lard Nar any where in Thailand. Anyway, the lunch did make my day. Next time I will try a different menu and bring some friends !!!

Tac Quick serves up some of the best Thai food in the city--you just have to know where to look for it. Skip most of the menu they give you and ask for the Thai menu, as this is where Tac Quick really shines. My dining companion and I came here last night for a late dinner. When I walked in, I was surprised by how swank it was. Sleek tables, chic woodwork on the bar, and low lighting made Tac Quick one of the nicer places in which I've had the pleasure of dining in the last few weeks. We were seated at one of the tables in the back, pulled out our bottle of wine (BYOB! And there's a liquor store three or four doors down!) and the server immediately brought us glasses and a bottle opener. We were perusing the menu they gave us and realized that we needed to ask for the Thai menu to fully know what we wanted to order. The Thai menu is translated, but without prices (the prices, we found out later, are comparable to the other menu). We settled on an order of pork neck (specials chalkboard), papaya salad with salt crab (Thai menu), duck curry (specials chalkboard), and pa lo (Thai menu). The food started coming out just 10 or so minutes later. The pork neck was intensely flavorful, rich and charred, and came with a sweet scallion dipping sauce. I loved every bite of this and hope it makes it onto the regular menu. Papaya salad with salt crab was probably my least favorite dish of the night, though it was still very good. It was spicy (too spicy for my boyfriend, fine for me) and funky (love that fish sauce) with plenty of little tiny dried shrimp and salt crab. My duck curry was filled with rich duck breast and creamy coconut milk. The curry also contained pineapple and green grapes, which were a clean, tangy contrast to the richness of the duck. The pa lo was really interesting--it had braised pork belly, tofu fritters, and hard boiled eggs in a star anise flavored sauce. The textures in the dish were outstanding and unique. While everything was soft, the pork belly was melt-in-your-mouth tender, the tofu fritters were light and creamy, and the hard boiled eggs were chewy. Very, very good. I can't resist anything in banana leaves, so for dessert we got the sticky rice with banana steamed in the banana leaf. Yum. A nice, light way to end our ridiculously decadent meal. We stuffed ourselves with food for about $35. I am already thinking about my next trip to sample more things from their menu(s).

OMG the boat noodles. I can bathe in that broth. It's so rich and delicious. That being said, it's going to be difficult going through their entire "secret" menu when the dishes you've tried before are a hit. However, I'm definitely sticking to that "secret" menu because for something this authentic, you ought to ditch the pad thai.

Living in the neighborhood, I have been to Tac Quick and enjoyed my experience several times. My most recent experience was absolutely terrifying and I will never be returning. The service was unaccommodating, slow, and rude. During dinner, I thought it strange there was a large dog crawling on the curtains - THEN I realized it was a ROACH. My skin is still crawling. Thanks, Tac Quick, for reminding me there are many other restaurants in Chicago where I can satisfy my Thai craving.

This place is right at the end of my block so it is certainly the most convenient Thai food around...but if the locale for Tac Quick and Cozy's (my former favorite) were swapped I'd walk the extra blocks to Tac Quick. I haven't had anything there that I didn't like - and some of the dishes are excellent. They have the standard menu and the Thai menu for the adventurous. I prefer the noodle dishes but the rice dishes are good too - just a little to bland for my taste - i have them make everything spicy and then bring extra red sauce to the table. If you like Thai Ice coffee theirs is excellent.

Been a customer of TAC since we moved in the area a few years back. The food is pretty darn authentic (though I'm still looking for the pad thai wrapped in an omlet...) Last night I ordered pot stickers and pad thai for carry out. It was ready in 10 minutes! The pad thai tasted pretty good, but I still kind of like it in the restaurant. Maybe it's that you spend some more time with it and mix everything up, but I like the IN restaurant taste better. Plus, I normally don't order pad thai from here since they have some really good curries. We'll be returning soon.

Definitely need to go in for the secret menu. I ordered take-out tonight. Not too impressed with the cash-only for online orders policy. (Anyone know if this doesn't apply for phone orders? I don't really mind talking on the phone THAT much.) The delivery was on time, though, and the delivery guy was very nice. Good: Som Tum green papaya salad. Really really nice. Super fresh, very spicy, lots of all of the ingredients, including like, an entire quarter head of cabbage. Enough for three days, at least. Free egg roll, amazingly enough. The dipping sauce was very clearly homemade and was the best I have ever had with egg rolls. Not so good: the Panang noodle. I'd seen someone else recommend this, and the description sounded promising (supposed to be chicken, shrimp, broccoli, over crispy wide noodles.) What I got was a slosh of greasy and not very Panang-y curry sauce over maybe two or three noodle pieces, a couple bits of chicken (albeit, good quality), tons of bell peppers (which I would have requested to be left out if I had known they'd be in there, do not want!), and maybe two broccoli florets. Oh, and a random huge rapidly wilting lettuce leaf on the bottom of the container. Not worth the $9 dish price, at all. Maybe this is a lot better in the restaurant but I would in no way recommend it as delivered. Despite this dish failure (and I'm really not that picky) I'll be going to the restaurant itself to give it a second chance. At the very least I'll have more papaya salad and like, fifty of those egg rolls.

I can't emphasize enough what's been said below: ask for the "Thai Menu"--the items taste far better than the ones off the "regular menu". (For example, I found the Pad Thai off the regular menu to be average, at best, and the beef and basil egg rolls were OK.) The exact name escapes me, but I had a dish with stewed pork (with pork skin), mushrooms and soy sauce served over rice. Absolutely fantastic! Don't forget to ask for the "Thai condiments" for extra peppers and sauces to accompany your meal.

After walking into a chic, trendy looking Thai place, I was extremely disappointed with the cuisine. I went for lunch and after seeing no lunch specials on the menu, my fellow diner asked the waiter who politely listed off the combos which included one of maybe 6 entrees and either an egg roll or spring roll, costing around $6. Easy enough. I went with the fried rice since I wasn't feeling especially noodley, the egg roll, and a ginger ale (which they were sadly out of). The egg roll was delightful and the dipping sauce they served with it had a pleasant kick to it. The fried rice was beyond bland. It basically looked and tasted like overcooked white rice with egg stirred it. Not fried at all. I tried adding what I thought was soy sauce (that I personally retrieved from the serving bar since I couldn't catch the waiter's attention... Not the biggest deal) to add some flavor to it, which was a BIG mistake. Even though the jar was clearly labeled Kikkoman (or however you spell it), it tasted nothing like soy sauce. I, of course, had stupidly put it over the majority of my rice. The combination ended up tasting like, well, crotch funk. It was disgusting and I couldn't choke it down. Thankfully, they allowed me to send the dish back for a mediocre plate of pad see ewe which was better, but still not great. This courtesy is the only thing aside from the egg roll that earned this place 2 stars. I won't be back to Tac Quick... Mediocre (at best) food, slow but kind service, and unexceptional prices... No thanks.

My favorite Thai place to go to in Chicago. I bring all my out of town guests here for a cheap delicious dinner. It's BYOB with a liquor store a few doors town, so if you're looking to save a few bucks, it's a good pick.

3.5 stars. Yelpers, don't know how, but I missed the tip about the "other" menu, so this is based on the "regular" menu. First, let me discuss the overall experience. We arrived around 7:30pm on a Saturday night. It was very busy; all the tables were full, and I stood in the doorway wondering what I should do. Once I realized I'd continue to be ignored at the door, I walked up to the register to request a table. The server was busy and told me to sit and wait at the to go desk. Eventually, after a few more people came in, they started a wait list. (A little unorganized.) Luckily, we only waited about 5 more minutes before we were seated at a high table by the window. (The chairs are backless, so I didn't find them too comfortable.) But, overall, I think the ambiance is decent, so I'm not complaining too much. What happened next, I almost hate to say. We waited, and waited, and waited for about 30 minutes before a waitress came to our table to take our orders. If it hadn't been for the excellent bottle of wine and the fact that we used to wait tables, we would have been upset. But, I can sort of forgive them since they only had two servers working in the whole restaurant. Plus, they were very apologetic. So, Tac Quick, you're pretty much forgiven. We finally and joyously ordered two veggie dishes (Veggie Pad Khee Mao and Cashew Tofu). They were unable to leave out the oyster sauce which we prefer, but I thought both dishes were very good and presentation was good too. I also LOVED our appetizer (pan fried thai chive pot stickers). YUMMMY!! I'll definitely be back because of the food (and I have to check out the other menu). I'm just hoping that the service is a little speedier next time. But, I'll bring lots more wine, just in case...

This is hands-down the best Thai restaurant I've ever eaten at. Thai cuisine is my second favorite to sushi so I eat a TON of it. I get to this place every chance I can. Dining in is a great experience, I go just with one person often, but we've also celebrated several birthdays here with 18-20 people and always been accommodated (with reservation obviously). Not too loud, BYOB so the bills are super reasonable. Favorite dishes are pot stickers and the Thai Pasta with tofu. It's truly amazing. When friends come in town, this is literally the first place I take them to. Delivery is fast and hot.

First and foremost, there was a large COCKROACH crawling on the curtains inches away from a patron's meal. The waitress unsuccessfully attempted to kill it and when she could not find it, she just continued about her business without apology while the patrons took it upon themselves to relocate. As a faithful Tac Quick customer of over 2 years, the service I received on my recent visits was quite frankly appalling. My friend attempted to pay for his meal with a $100 gift certificate purchased for him as a gift. He was told the gift certificate was one time use only. This was not communicated to the person purchasing the gift certificate, nor is it indicated anywhere on the certificate or in the restaurant. It's ridiculous to expect an individual to spend $100 at one meal, even with a fairly decent size group. We suggested several options including deducting from the original amount each time or splitting the gift certificate into several smaller increments, but they informed us there was nothing they can or would do, even after acknowledging that we are loyal customers. Their approach was rude and accusatory, and they didn't offer any solutions despite the fact that their "loyal customers" were clearly upset. I adored Tac Quick, but don't think I will be returning.

I lived in Thailand for a year & I am incredibly picky about Thai food restaurants. We moved into the neighborhood 2 weeks ago & have been exploring local food spots & I cannot stress enough how much I appreciate how authentic and delicious the food was here. The service was excellent & our waitress was super friendly. Definitely try the Thai iced tea, and also they have the best pad Thai and Pad Kee Mow (Mao?) that I've had In a while. We will definitely be coming back soon.

The food is good/sauces are good, but "every" time, over and over again when we go there to dine or carry out, the young females in the front are very very snobby, do not have a personality or know how to interact with the customers. ("Especially" the thin young one with short hair) My husband and I have ate at many Thai restaurants and at least they are polite or know how to interact with the public. Good customer service is part of your dining experience! This time will be the last time we will eat here. Gave them to many opportunities and still the same. I am pretty sure it is no sweat off there back because they are so ignorant to this and don't know any better. If you don't care about customer service and want to be treated this way (good food or not), this place is for you. There is too many Thai restaurants with good quality authentic food and good customer service who wants your business.

Slurp gobble nosh gnaw .... I have no idea what I was eating ... what kind of animal, vegetable, or crustacean for that matter.... but damn it was good. We ordered from the Thai Menu - and took our lovely server's suggestions - Sukiyaki, Rama, some kind of cat fish green curry paste thing, and an eggplant-omelet-fish dish with the most intense shrimp paste in the world. Fresh cilantro abounded, as did pieces of bone, here and there, and many weird bits of *something* ... what can i say, we had no idea what we were eating but it was fantastic. It's BYO so we washed it down with vino, and dashed off to Ratatat, probably smelling a bit fishy.

Unbelievably good Tom Kha soup. Don't eat the giant piece of ginger thinking that it's a potato. It is not. It is ginger, and you will look like an idiot. Pad See Ew is also good. Service is hit or miss.

Before I continue, please refer to my review of Lemongrass Thai: yelp.com/biz/lemongrass-… Now that you have most of my opinion on Tac Quick, I must be a little more specific. I had all the Tic-Toc-TAC going on on my watch during my one hour lunch break from work. I was in a hurry and there was no "QUICK" involved either. Restaurant name completely misunderstood by Americans. TQ smelled like some store in Chinatown...unfortunately/thankfully I can't really put a name on it (just something odd). My coworkers gave me a look when I was planning on going to TQ. They say its because of the service is super slow (shooot, they weren't lyin') and the shredded chicken in the entrees similar to cat food... Again, I don't trust other people's reviews (on Yelp or in person) til I experience it for myself... I was taking my friend Claire out for her birthday and thought that Thai is fairly quick and TQ is near my work. We had to ask for the waiter to break-down the non-existent Lunch Special by pointing at the included items on the normal menu. (Personally, I didn't ask for the Thai Thai menu simply because smell of the restaurant caused my nose to twitch like in Bewitched). I ordered the Pad See Eiw which was fairly good--not too sweet or too bland. However, the chicken seemed to be coldish or undercooked on the inside (luckily, not pink-colored). Claire got the fried rice that came out as pearly and bland as steamed white rice. She then decided to spice it up a bit with some "soy sauce" she noticed on the bar. The waiter had not come by so she grabbed it herself. After smothering her rice in it, all we could smell was SOURNESS (not salty). She took a bite and hurled it back out like a bird feeding its young. I couldn't get myself to try it afterward due to the stench alone. Who knows if there was something else other than what the top of the pourer read "Lee Kum Kee" (perhaps they clean it with vinegar and just married it with the soy sauce already in there?!?!). Luckily the waiter took the food back politely and brought her another entree. I was expecting the common Thai rudeness but didn't get it, phew! All in all, I probably wouldn't go back here so I leave the reviews as they are---Mixed.

Good, but not worth finding parking in Wrigleyville. Nice, quiet atmosphere, attentive service, and it's BYOB. Spring rolls and green curry with veggies were very average. I was delighted that there were plenty and a variety of veggies, but something was off in the curry itself (my guess would be not enough coconut milk and jalapenos instead of thai chilies). I might try it again if I'm in the area, but my Thai food loyalties remain with Noodle Garden in Evanston.

After a several-month sabbatical, I returned to TAC based on the good word-of-mouth emanating from the LTH Forum. I think Andy very nearly has got his groove back: the roti/beef curry dish is really spectacular, riffing off the beef stew you think you know with a deep hit of ground curry powder; his isaan sausage is also spectacular, with both herbaceous and porky notes (I love it cold). My waitress insisted I try the boat noodles--loved the various bits of beef and the sweet-yet-prickly broth (for star anise lovers only) but thought it a smidge too salty. This is minor, of course, and I'm happy to have my old TAC back. Still amazing to me that people come here for the Ameri-thai...how many reviews does it take to open up?

Long overdue review here. After several years of BYOB Thai in Chicago, Tac Quick still maintains a top spot on my list for one reason alone, the elusive pad thai omelet (listed with shrimp but chicken for me). I feel like mentioning the "secret" thai menu is pretty pointless at this point, I think they just bring it out by default now anyway but this is where the white whale is found. I still have not seen this dish anywhere else (at least in Chicago) and it's great every time. Do it.

I went here on a Monday night with my grandparents and had a great experience. We made reservations, but since it was a holiday, there were only about 4 other tables filled. It's really convenient to get to off of the red line (Sheridan stop). Overall, the restaurant has a fresh and modern feel, very clean. Our service was good and our waitress was happy to give recommendations (which I would suggest if you are not familiar with Thai food or their specialties). For appetizers my grandparents ordered the shrimp dumplings, spring rolls, and spicy beef rolls. The dumplings were very good and the spring rolls were good, but different than what you might expect from a typical Thai spring roll. I didn't have the beef rolls, but the rest seemed to enjoy them. For dinner I got the vegetable combination with tofu (boring, but healthy). It wasn't anything too exciting, but the ingredients were fresh and it wasn't too heavy. I also tried my grandma's panang noodles, which were very good. I loved the crispy noodles, though the sauce was a bit spicy for me. I enjoyed this restaurant and also had wanted to try it since I had seen it on "Check Please" and every restaurant I have seen on that show has been great. Tac Quick is also very inexpensive, as you might expect of a Thai restaurant and it's byob!

I've taken numerous people here to experience the Tom Kha soup and wonderful BYOBness of this restaurant. I absolutely love it. Watch out for the large piece of ginger in the bowl that can be easily mistaken for potato, which will make you seem more adorable than you are when you eat it. Tom Kha soup, Tom Kha soup, Tom Kha soup! They have a "secret" menu you just have to ask for.

Went here yesterday, taken there by my Thai gf. Boy, I have to say I have been completely ignorant about real Thai food up till now! Many have already pointed out that the no-so-secret secret menu is the way to go, and obviously my gf helped order from the Thai-written menu... We had a fried catfish dish, braised pork (was supposed to be neck, not sure if it actually was, but who cares, it was great), and a stewed full pork leg. Especially the latter I'd recommend. It was absolutely delicious, you don't even have to chew the meat! Especially the skin is delightful :) Service was great, but it wasn't busy so that probably helped. Also, when my gf asked about possible desserts, our waiter told her they had one, but that it wasn't very good....lol, how great is such honesty! I surmise that many negative reviewers probably either wanted the typical western-style Thai fare, and just didn't like the authentic Thai, or they ordered western-style Thai. Since this place is known for their authentic Thai, perhaps their Western-style Thai isn't that great.....but since there are a billion places offering that, why would you order that at Tac Quick? Overall definitely recommend it!

This place fluctuates between my favorite and second favorite Thai place, because I love the Pad thai omelet (I don't know what it's called on their not a secret anymore thai menu, but when I say pad thai omelet they know what I mean) and I have tried the crab rangoon and it is really good as well. It's BYOB, like most Thai places, so you can drink cheap, and it has a nice spot nestled under the Sheridan red line stop. Definitely give them a try if you're in the area.

My friends and I ordered take-out from here on a Sunday night. They seem to have problems with taking a phone order because they put my friend on hold for more than 5 minutes at a time (*she hung up after waiting and called back 3x with no luck). Finally we realized they took web orders so we just did that. Easy. Food was delivered about an hour later. We got chicken pad thai, beef green curry, and spring rolls. The pad thai was one of the best that I've had in the city and the green curry had a good kick to it. Will have to try this place for other dishes.

I LOVE Thai food. Even though we go to Thai Aroma (a few blocks away) more because of how close and cheap it is, Tac Quick will always have a special place in my heart. It's a cute place to go on a casual date with your significant other. They have a wide range of options AND it's BYOB. Conveniently, there's a liquor store a few stores down. Now, let's talk about the food: 1. Moo Ping-- We get it every time we go. It's beef on a skewer. It's kind of price for the amount of food but it's SOO GOOD. Their dipping sauce is delicious; but it's not necessary consider how juicy the beef is by itself. 2. Panang Noodle--Their panang is AMAZING. The only complaint I have is the amount of panang they give you. The second time I ordered it, I asked for extra panang and they charged me $1 or 2 for it. I can't remember. 3. Kra Prao Moo Krob-- This is heavenly. You have to eat it when it's hot. It melts in your mouth. 4. Kuay Teaw Pet-- The shredded duck absorbs all the flavor in the broth. Their service is so-so. Another complaint I have is their hours. They close kinda early IMO.

In the realm of Thai food, I generally find that there's a very small margin of quality. I've rarely had very bad Thai food, and I've rarely had Thai food that stood out head and shoulders above the rest. This place falls into the latter category. I used to live two minutes away, and now that I'm down in Wicker Park I will still make the trek from the Blue to the Red Line to get there. Anyone who's ever had to get from Wicker Park to Uptown knows just how much of an endorsement that is. What makes it stand out is threefold: the ingredients are incredibly fresh (ample vegetables, which I have long since stopped expecting), the sauces are unique and perfectly rationed, and the portion sizes have somehow been magically engineered to fill me up to that exact point where I spend the next few hours on the couch watching Doctor Who in a happy, delirious daze. Keep it going, Tac Quick. And build a branch down here...I'll make it worth your while.

The "secret" menu is not so secret, but it does have some great stuff on it, so ask for it and order from it. Between that, the BYOB factor and its convenient location, Tac Quick is already a few cuts above the typical Thai food fare. Definitely worth stopping by and even better for takeout!

For anyone who hasn't figured it out, food you get delivered is never as good as food you eat in. I look at the photos from Tac Quick -- taken by Yelpers -- and everything looks so good. The food I get delivered is generally pretty ordinary. Still, people I respect rave about the place. So somewhere between Sheridan and Irving and Clark and Argyle, the magic disappears. Tac is quick. The food generally shows up in 30 minutes or less. Just like the old Dominos ads. And the quality is good, but nothing special. Except the tod mun (fish cakes), which are as good as any I've ever had. So Tac, for now I will make plans to visit you in person. And order off the special menu, which seems to be the key. And then update accordingly. But Spoon will remain my go-to delivery place.

It was a hot and swampy Chicago summer day, and I was seeking refuge, but... Strike One: Even though the place was empty inside, I was seated in the back, around a corner and by the bathroom door, with the hostess motioning to my baby stroller the whole time and mumbling something about how It would be better for me to sit over here, or something like that.... Strike Two: No damn air conditioning. In the hot-ass dead of summer. Are you fucking kidding me? Strike Three: Everything was utterly average and a little overpriced. Service was sloooooow. I had a fleeting thought that everyone who worked there was huddling together in some secret air conditioned back room.... Of course, this was only a theory. And I had to go hunt down somebody to pay the bill... YUUUURRREEE OUT!

I have no idea how this restaurant was reviewed as one of the top five in the city on eater for thai food. I've been way more satisfied at a thai buffet or kiosk in a mall. Went there for lunch and ordered a dish off the "secret menu" which is supposed to be more "authentic thai", yet tasted more like a secret that should remain hidden. The dish said that it came with shrimp and squid - among other veg, and came out with 5 shrimp and no squid. When I asked the server, she just said.. oh, yes, squid.. nodded and walked away. I ordered pad thai to go because I was still hungry and wasn't going to take another bite of the "secret" dish I had ordered. It is simply a run of the mill thai restaurant in a sketchy area that will leave you feeling angry for spending money. Would have felt more satisfied if i just stayed home and threw some rice noodles in the wok with soy and fish sauce. Crossing my fingers I dont get sick this afternoon!

This is my and my wife's favorite Thai restaurant. Make sure to check out the separate Thai menu, which includes unique Thai dishes not normally found elsewhere. Some of our favorites include the special fried rice, the pad thai omelet, and the stir fried pork with basil and preserved egg. Not to be missed!

Ask for the secret menu to really get the weird stuff. I've been to Tac Quick too many times to count and it's always quality. The staff is friendly and quick with service. I've never sat outside, but they do have a little seating area. If you live in the area, Tac Quick is the best Thai restaurant around. Their noodles and flavors just taste better than their rivals. Give this place a try.

If you like Thai, this venue will surely satisfy your cravings. There are two menus available - one for those familiar with the more authentic names and one for those like me who know the traditional hot spots for this cuisine. The location is fairly accessible with ample parking; thankfully, the meter rates haven't been jacked up like the rest of Chicago. The atmosphere is smart chic; simple yet still inviting, but decidedly more impressive than the "average" Thai restaurant. According to my companions the serving size has diminished, but this being my first visit, I was pleased. My usual pad sie euw (crispy) was a treat and the thai basil chicken was quite flavorful. When you ask for spice, they will certainly deliver; so for those sensitive to the heat, be cautious in how you order. We ordered a few other items, but since I fail to remember their names they shall remain nameless until I return in the relatively near future (I hope!) Overall, a pleasant dining experience. Oh wait, did I mention BYOB? Yep, byob... so pleasant and then some =)

Delicious Thai food at fair prices. Wait staff sometimes isn't the most attentive and there doesn't seem to be anything Thai to the decor but the food tastes great and I have always left satisfied and feel like I got a good deal. The place is BYOB so bring your own booze. (There is a liquor store next door) Out door seating in summer. They freely admit that the crab rangoon is made from "artificial crab" but order it anyway as its wonderful.

Came here after seeing it on the Eater 38. Feel bad giving it 1 star when I didn't order off the secret menu but I had some of the WORST PUD THAI i've ever had. Flavorless and the noodles were mushy and the chicken was dry. Stay away from the Pud Thai here, totally nasty!

Took my sister here last night. I use to live, literally, right around the corner but, for some reason, despite the good word of mouth, haven't been here till now. The atmosphere is nice; simple but chic. For a rainy sunday night, it was surprisingly crowded, but we managed to squeeze into a table in the corner by the door, which was fine. We started with the eggs rolls. The were good, if a tad bland. The same could be said for the rest of the meal. Not bad, but nothing had any kick to it that you expect from thai food. I have to say, the best part of the experience was the price. Three people for $30. Not too shabby. I wasn't aware, until reading some of the other yelps, that there is a separate thai menu...suppose I shall be giving this place another try.

I wish I could say I had a great dining experience at tac Quick, but I must have caught them on an off day. My acquaintance and I came here on a Saturday night after hemming and hawing over several Thai restaurants (it was between tac quick, rosded, and aroy). Tac quick won out because it was closer. Service was good. The place was pretty full. We got items from both the Thai menu and the regular menu: crab rangoon, thai fried chicken appetizer, beef jerky, tom kah, beef pad see-ew, and the tac quick fried rice. The crab rangoon was good, but they may have used a tad too much pepper in the cream cheese. I liked the fried chicken and the beef jerky, but my acquaintance said the fried chicken was overcooked. The pad see-ew and fried rice were pretty good, but nothing mind-blowing. The worst part of the meal, according to my acquaintance, was the tom kha. There was way too much lime juice in there, making the soup overly sour. We requested a replacement with not so much lime juice, but it ended up tasting the same.

It's amazing that Tac Quick is close to 5 stars. I agree with one of the previous reviewers that their food lacks definition and character -- the curries are not flavorful enough, the appetizers are just run-of-the-mill -- and there isn't a single item which I've tried in my 5+ visits in the past year that stands out as something that I'd think of as a destination item (that is, will compell me to drive +2 miles to get). What Tac Quick has going for it is its location. I think that it's one of the very few options within a 1/2 mile radius from Sheridan Red Line station (but there are a few places up and down Broadway - equally mediocre), so it's a convenient place to go for a quick Thai fix if you live in the area. However, there are far better options within a couple of miles -- Thai Pastry near Argyle comes to mind.

Tac Quick is easily my favorite Thai restaurant in Chicago. It's authenticity is unbeatable. I know when Thai food comes to the mind of a typical American, immediately they think of Pad Thai and Lard Nar. This restaurant has that but so much more. Came here on a rainy day and it was still amazingly packed. So initially they sat us by the restrooms which didn't have the greatest of smells so we decided to sit at the bar. The wait staff wasn't overly pleasant but the food certainly made up for it. I had the fatty pork with rice and it tasted like I went to Asia and killed the pig myself for a mere $10. Definitely worth the visit if you have the taste for authentic Asian crusine.

(Formerly) Dearest TAC, I write to you today to say that we must end this passionate tryst. You used to pamper me with your tasty, fast, cheap, authentic, lovely deliciousness... the feel of your perfectly textured noodles, the taste of your sensually balanced panang....those were beautiful times... We met when you moved in and became my neighbor and you exceeded every expectation I could have possibly dreamt of.... you were loyal and sweet... always there when I needed you... my perfect match.... but I had to move away and you expanded, but I wasn't ready to delete your number from my phone. My loyal stomach kept me coming back to you... Recently though, I can tell you don't have that special feeling for me anymore. You've changed. That soggy, tasteless pad thai, the bad pot stickers (what have you done??!!?? they didn't used to be like this and my last order of them was BURNED) and painfully slow delivery time are breaking my heart. Your last order of egg rolls was decent, but thats just not enough to keep me hanging on to this lost love affair. I think its best for both of us if we just move on. I'm sure there will probably be a couple more late-night calls, and you'll knock on my door (after a lengthy wait and much teasing that you are on your way), then I'll take you inside and ravish you. But afterwards I'll feel dirty and unsatisfied and realize it was a mistake. I'll swear that I'm deleting your number in the morning...Its just not like it used to be. You just don't satisfy me anymore. That spark just isn't there. Please know that I'll always dream of the days when I lived down the street and you regularly seduced me with that delectable lunch special.... those flavorful pad thai noodles... the crispy delicious egg roll.... the icy cold diet coke... Those were good times.... I may pass by you again... some day... and not be able to resist stopping in. I'll be craving your delicious pad thai... but please don't break my heart again - please either send me away or give me the old recipe... the original... the one I dream about....ok? I will still think of you and the Others will always be compared to what we used to have.... My Nostalgic Love Always, Deirdre

This place has all of the characteristics that I attribute to a great restaurant: delicious food at reasonable prices, friendly staff, the BYOB option and the fact that you can get a table at 9 pm on a Friday night without having a reservation. The only downside to this wonderful establishment is that, although outside seating is available, it's located right next to the L tracks, so it makes hearing your significant other a bit difficult. Other than that, I would recommend this place to anyone. I also like saying the name with extreme pronunciation. It's fun.

Expensive and not so Thai. I'm Thai myself and this place is lacking a genuine thai touch. :(

best crab rangoon ive EVER had, hands-down. the pad woonsen with ground chicken was subpar though, ive definitely had better at other thai places in the area. the sauce wasnt sweet enough, and didnt even really seem to look too brown. they went kinda light on the sauce too. the tom kha soup was pretty good though! im eating my leftover soup as we speak and its hitting the spot. id still give tac quick another shot, even tho i didnt love it the first time around. maybe next time ill ask to see the secret menu bc im super curious about that :) props to them for being one of the only places that answered their phone today tho when we were looking for thai delivery!

So the other night me and boy were off to have a nice Thai dinner at our. . . . .well at least my favorite Thai place in the city. That place had a line out the door (which is unusual, but then again I don't normally go there on a Friday night) so we decided to go to Tac Quick which is over by his house. I've been to Tac Quick many times, and it is very good, but I don't feel that it is as good as Cozy. Reason being: the atmosphere is quite a bit different (Cozy = ECCENTRIC which suits my personality), Tac Quic doesn't have something as common as edamame on it's menu, and . . . . .its farther away from me? Alright that last one really isn't a real reason. Anywho, it's still very good. For appetizers we got spring rolls which were very good; however, I was not fond of the very spicy sauce, but luckily that was on the side. And then we also got a plate of the grilled squid which was very delicious and I liked it better plain that with the sauce that came to accompany it. Tac Quic is BYOB which I ALWAYS love, especially in these trying times of our economy (even thought I didn't pay for the meal hee, hee, hee). My guy actually brought my favorite white wine, which he picked up from reading prior reviews on here -- how cute? I know! So we had our wine, and our appetizers. For the entrees I just got regular veggie stir-fry and added some shrimp to it sans rice. I though it was delicious. I don't know the name of his dish but I'm pretty sure it was some curry beef dish. All I know is that I was really enjoying eating the peanuts out of his and the curry sauce I really liked. Altogether it was very good. Little more sophisticated setting, so if you wanted something a bit more romantic, I guess this would be better than Cozy, but I still think Cozy is better (and they ususally have the Cubs games on as well). But good Thai food for sure!

Exceptionally good Thai. I went for the first time the other day and had a huge and totally delicious serving of masaman curry with vegetables and tofu. Tac Quick has a huge menu, including a "secret menu." I got my order takeout, and it was well packaged. I'll be back.

I've looked over some of the other reviews of this place, and I think I've got it. Some people order things like pad thai, crab rangoon, and other ordinary Thai dishes, such as you could get from any Thai restaurant anywhere, and are disappointed in the quality of the food. Others choose from the special board or the Thai menu, and dine superbly on pork neck, duck curry, or that one thing with the crispy chicken, basil, and preserved eggs I can never remember the name of. So there you have it, folks: if you go to TAC Quick and ask for egg rolls, you get the dinner you deserve.

This was pretty good Thai - the spicy was not super duper spicy, but just a good amount. The food won't blow your mind, but it's a great place to drop in for a bite on a budget. No complaints here, and BYOB. If you're a little bored with the standard fare, ask for their other menu.

If I could choose not to give nay star at all, i would totally do that by now. I'm a regular customer of Tac Quick for the past three years. Plus, I always recommend friends and co-workers to try this place. Now my feeling for Tac Q has changed. I recently ordered to curries for take-out. When I got home, I realized that one of the container's lip was half opened and my curry was split all over inside the plastic bag. Suddenly, i called them up and told them what had happened. If it was my own fault, both of the lids would be half opened or came off, but nope! JUST ONE. The person on the phone just chillingly told me that it might have been my own mistake that i accidentally split it because they closed the containers tightly enough. She even added that there has never been any problem with other customers! WHAT A BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE. THE WORST I EVER EXPECTED IN MY LIFE! Will NEVER go back there again and I will make sure to TELL EVERYBODY I KNOW.

Great food, generous portions, attentive (but not overly so) waitstaff. Cozy but not crowded interior. And BYOB!

This place has the best pad thai omelet you will ever have. The portions are very substantial, the appetizers are fun. Its great for a group of 6 or just 2 people.

This would have gotten 5 stars, however, the staff was completely rude. We were seated, but we had to wait 15 minutes for water. Then, another 15 minutes later, we hailed for the only 2 waitresses in the restaurant but they brushed us off. I understand it's not really the waitresses fault, but it's the management for not hiring a bus boy or another waitress. STOP BEING CHEAP!!! HIRE MORE PEOPLE, YOU DEFINATELY NEED IT!!!!! Other than the incredible rotten service, the food was delectable. I went to dinner with Amy D. (See review below). For $68 (7 hungry people) we had a flavorful meal. Ask for the special Thai menu, get the cripsy basil leaves with ground chicken, curry noodles, and fish! Delish!!

When TAC Quick first opened, it was a tiny establishment consisting of a few small tables. Then the restaurant expanded into the larger, corner space it occupies today. The place still maintains its hip and modern atmosphere. My friend from Thailand complemented the food there. She told me that they cook dishes that remind her of being in her homeland. I suppose those dishes must be on the secret Thai menu. (I only learned about the menu when the servers mistook my sister and me for their own and gave us copies of it written in Thai. When they noticed our confused looks, they eventually switched over to the English version of the secret menu) Some things I regularly order: egg rolls spring rolls moo ping (pork skewers) chicken satay, but the peanut sauce is a bit gloppy and oily pad thai (of course) pad see ew basil fried rice kai tod (Thai fried chicken, marinated in a flavorful sauce) Occasional choices: any kind of curry or clay pot The specials have been pretty good. Once I ordered a deep fried whole fish with green mango and it was excellent. Another time I had some type of tasty pork dish (listed as wild boar on the specials board). I also had a satisfying mango and sticky rice dessert. A few drawbacks: As far as the noodle and rice dishes go, sometimes the meat can be a bit dry. I would stick with the tofu. Don't come as a small party when there is a larger group present. You will be ignored and treated somewhat rudely. (For example we were in the presence of a large birthday party when we ordered the deep fried fish. A server brought us the fish. We oohed and aahed. Right before we about to dig in, another server came by and took it away saying that this particular fish was for the birthday celebrants. Ours would be coming later. My sister and I were a little taken aback as they did nothing to apologize for their mistake.) There are only a handful of desserts which are really dense and heavy, so you should go somewhere else to satisfy your meal ending sweet tooth. It's been a few months since I have been there. Maybe they have updated their offerings. All in all, TAC Quick puts most of the wannabe Thai restaurants in this great city to shame. Hop on the Red Line, exit at Sheridan and prepare for a good meal!

This restaurant is neighborhood gem for Thai food. I go here at least couple of times a month. I usually stay away from the secrete menu but my boyfriend seems to enjoy it. I love their Pad khee mau and their chives pot stickers are to die for. Its cheap and BYOB. Tac Quick would've gotten five starts only if their service wasn't such a disappointment every time I go here. The servers are not really good at explaining things and some of them have just have a hard time communicating. But other than that, the food is delicious and definitely worth trying at least once.

For Thai in North Lakeview this is my place. Close, consistently good, BYOB. That's all I really need in a Thai place....mmmm I'm craving some noodles just writing this.

I hate to pee on everyone's Tac Quick parade, but this place was subpar at best. I have mentioned before that I am a Thai food hooch, and this was yet another notch on my belt that I was ever so excited for. I even shaved my legs for my big date with Tac. Turns out I didn't get the bang for the buck I was expecting. I hate it when that happens! I would like to take a moment to describe the ambiance during my first rendezvous with Tac Quick. The light was low, which was about the only good part. The place was clean but there wasn't much to it. Just as I was starting to come around and get in the mood..... Britney Spears Greatest Hits started playing on the sound system. I would also like to mention that in the span of time that we were there they also played Mariah Carey and Gloria Estephan. Seriously. This should have been a deal breaker from the get go. From the minute we walked in the door, the place seemed cold and unwelcoming. We were seated at the table directly in front of the door and when I asked to me moved to another area, I was told that there was a large party coming in and they would not move us. No large party ever came in. The place is BYOB, and my dining companions and I had a few bottles of our favorite libations to enjoy with our meal which were all opened promptly. We ordered some appetizers; 2 out of three came out correctly. The crab Rangoon was just ok. It was mostly Rangoon, not a lot of crab. The potstickers were good and served with a delicious sauce. We ordered the spicy basil rolls but I think we ended up with spring rolls instead and they were not impressive at all. Soggy and slimy in a runny sweet sauce with no flavor. Now it was time for the big shebang. For my main course, I ordered my all time favorite; Panang noodles with chicken. You really can't go wrong with this dish. Until now. This was the worst part of my experience here. First off, it was served atop soggy lettuce. The noodles were so over cooked they tasted like the shell of burnt crab Rangoon. I know that this dish is traditionally served on crispy noodles, but the point is so that the curry sauce softens the noodles. Not on this dish. I couldn't even cut through some of the noodles they were so crispy. And with all of the yapping and drinking I was doing, even by the end of the meal, the noodles never got soft. The flavor of the curry was decent, although not my favorite by any means. There was barely any chicken in the dish either. I have to say, upon finishing this meal I was really unsatisfied. As long as it's fresh, I can enjoy most any Thai food and this was just plain bad. And like any bad notch in the belt, this place won't find a spot in my little black book ever again.

They have a wide selection of curry dishes, and nice outdoor seating. I've had better Thai, but its good and quick for neighborhood eating.

Two words: secret menu. Sure, the first time you'll feel like an idiot asking for it (especially if the waitress laughs at you, which happened to me the first time) but trust me--it's SO worth it. Their "regular" menu isn't too bad, but everything seems a little generic and under par for a Thai restaurant. The secret menu has all of the authentic Thai dishes you've been searching for. Their duck-basil curry was AMAZING, one of the best things I've eaten in a while. Definitely go here to get away from main-stream Thai and Asian places, as long as you request the secret menu.

  • Donna C.

Maybe I got so used to non-traditional Thai food that I just don't like truly authentic Thai food. I have read multiple reviews that this is one of the most authentic Thai places in the city and I had high hopes. Unfortunately, I found everything too sweet - both the Pad Thai in the omelette and the basil chicken dish. Their Tom Kha soup is pretty good although I prefer the one from Thai Pastry near Broadway and Argyle. It's funny how many reviewers say that you need to specially request the Thai menu but now, they seem to include it with the regular menu. They also refer to Check, Please! when I asked about a dish they would recommend. I was hoping for something that they liked themselves over what was most popular. I think this is a little better than your average Thai place. However, the dishes were just too sweet for me.

My absolute favorite Thai restaurant, and I eat Thai food all the time. The panang curry is the best thing on the menu: a perfect combination of spicy and sweet. The pad thai is also extremely good. The prices at this place are great too. Just an unassuming little spot with outstanding food.

  • Ashley G.

Really classy and generally nice experience here. The staff is very nice and accommodating. Best of all, the menu is very nicely priced. I will definitely be going back. A word of advice, if you are sensitive to spice they mean it when they say it's spicy... so ask them to moderate how much spice is included. I love the atmosphere here... while I love the occasional in-your-face-ethnic-experience, this place offers wonderfully ethnic food in combination with a very classy atmosphere.

The wait was ridiculous. 5 minutes before anyone greeted us at the door... 30 minutes just to get someone to acknowledge that we were even AT the table and that was after I'd brought it to someone's attention that we were waiting JUST to have our drink order taken. We didn't know about the OTHER menu either (what kind of craziness is that?... secret menu???!?!) and our food was tepid and bland. Yes, we sent it back and asked for it to be heated. And yes, it was returned to us as if it had been stuck in the microwave for 3 minutes per plate... SCORCHING. Not sure if we'll go back to check the OTHER menu. If you're going to make me wait, at least give me something worth waiting for. The service was ridiculous (literally) and the food was barely "meh"

This is one of my favorite places for Asian food! The crab rangoon is to die for and I have yet to find anything on the menu that I don't like! The atmosphere is clean, modern, and open, and in the summer they have outdoor seating, which makes the experience even more amazing. My sweet Valentine had them reserve the perfect table for two for us on Valentine's Day, and we brought our own bottles of champagne since the place is BYOB (which is outstanding!) It is also unbelievably affordable....you definitely get WAY more than you pay for here!

TAC Quick is a nice change of pace from the bazillion other Thai places in the neighborhood. We wanted to try something off the "secret" menu and went with the Kai Thawt, which was a fried chicken appetizer. The dipping sauce was really pungent - like with a really strong vinegar aroma - but tasted great. The chicken itself was extremely succulent and I loved the marinade/dry rub. I went with Panang tofu as my entree. The curry was much thicker than I'm used to and had sort of a peanutty taste - it was tasty but just not what I was expecting for "Panang Curry." (I don't mean that in a bad way). The other dishes we ordered were Basil Tofu, Pad Ped (red curry), and Ba Mee Pad (thin noodles w/ shrimp/chicken/veggies). I was quite pleased with the samples I tried off everyone's plates :) Don't expect to take home leftovers - the portions are definitely sized for one meal only - but it's a great value, and BYOB! If you're an adventurous diner, ask to take a look at the Thai menu - they had some really interesting dishes. (LTH Forum has a ton of postings with photos, in case you want to do some research before you go!) I can't wait to go back and try something new.

Probably my favorite Thai restaurant. I love when they're pumping club beats! Seriously! And the decor is simple, yet inviting with its warm lights. But on to the food. My favorite items are the grilled calamari, pad thai tofu, cucumber salad, and Thai iced coffee. Recently I had their crab rangoon (!), and it was the best I've ever had. I realize these aren't very adventurous things, but hey! Yum! Service is hit or miss, but I don't care.

Stopped here last night. What a wonderful neighborhood gem this is... i really enjoyed my meal, "ginger noodles, with beef". The service was good, and the highest priced item on the menu is $9. Also, it is BYOB.

Best Thai food in the city. Make sure to ask for the "Thai" menu. It has stuff you can't get anywhere. The place is cheap, clean and the service is fine. But the food rules.

Best Thai in the city (in my humble opinion) - dishes to try: Pad Thai w/ chicken, Pad Mee, Panang Noodle, Lemon Chicken Salad - will not disappoint.

  • Dantee A.

The ambience, the plating of the food, excellent customer service, and of course the food are what keeps me coming back! I try a new dish every time I go. I always spit the crab rangoon (best ever) and the spring rolls with a friend. The duck curry is awesome, panang noodles are great, green curry is great too, the kai tod (fried chicken) is my favorite. Whenever I want to get something cheap, good and homey - I get the Tom Kha(coconut soup) with a side of white rice. I mix them together to make some type of jambalaya - oh man it's delicious. Order from the Thai Menu if you a TAC Quick veteran. The smoothies aren't that great.

My favorite Pad See Eiw in Chicago. Just the right amount of sauce and chicken and veggies. I also usually get the shu mai which are delicious- I think they're pretty hard to screw up. Everyone I've taken here loves the food. Usually they're pretty quick with delivery. Their prices are cheap. Cute little place on the inside. Gets kinda drafty in the winter. I wish they delivered to my new apartment!

My neighborhood Thai joint. Love dining in with the BYOB, also great for carry out. They seem to be really quick when you order ahead. I call on my way home when I'm a few stops away on the el (they're right by the Sheridan red line) and it's ready when I get there! My favorite Pad Thai out of anywhere I've tried (also a big fan of the Pad See Ew

Sometimes you get your food and it looks like it may not be enough, or it's not the insane amount you might get at a more casual Thai place, but it's always absolutely filling. Definitely ask for the second menu. True Thai pad tai comes wrapped in an omelet! And pineapple fried rice is very nice. Also, make sure to check out the specials on the chalk board. Hip, but not stuffy. Good service. Nice outdoor seating area. Worth the money. Right off the Sheridan Red line stop.

Delicious! We started with the crab rangoons which are the BEST I HAVE EVER HAD! These beat Duck Walk hands down. I also ordered a Thai Iced Tea which was just the right sweetness and the perfect amount of cream. I was almost too full from this combo, but we ordered two dishes anyway... The Chinese broccoli with fried pork was a surprisingly light dish served with a large portion of rice. It was NOT drowned in sauce, which many Thai places tend to do. A perfect light spring dish. The Basil Pork had quite a bit of delicious sauce, with a large portion of FRESH green and red peppers and mushrooms. The pork pieces were huge and flavorful. I couldn't finish it all. I am so excited to find this delicious Thai place 5 minutes from my house... I am tired of having to order delivery all of the time. My *only* concern about Tac Quick is that they seem to have extensive water damage in the building, which we noticed an odor from when we walked in. My boyfriend and I were the only customers, so the lack of cooking food probably didn't help the old water odor. I am scared to check the health department report because the food was so good -- anyone want to look for me? ;) PS. They do deliver, but they don't advertise this. We asked for the delivery menu before we left and they gave us a copy of their regular menu -- looks like I have more delicious crab rangoons in my future.

I love this restaurant. My all time favorite is their Basil Chicken, the one in their secret menu. It's the best basil chicken I ever had. I love those crispy basil and the century eggs! I enjoyed their papaya salad too, although not for people who can't handle too much spice.

Best Thai food I have ever had! I live nearby so we order delivery from them. Like everyone else that has already commented, I recommend ordering off of the secret menu. The only thing I love from the main menu is the Crispy on Choy - Tempura Chinese watercrest, shrimp, ground chicken with spicy chili paste lime dressing(so far my favorite thing they serve).

I just moved down the block from Tac Quick so I was really hoping it would be good. It did not dissapoint. I can be picky so I stayed with the peanut chicken satay while my husband got some chicken noodle dish. He loved his, and I can say that my satay was the best I have ever had! The chicken had a delicious marinade and was very tender (which can be unusual for meat on a stick) and the peanut sauce was creamy and not overly spicy. We got dinner for two for $11. I can't wait to go back, or get takeout, and try something more adventurous next time. I do wish the crab rangoon had real crab meat in it though.

Not sure why people gave it such a high rating, perhaps they don't know any better and think this is good Thai. We ordered off the not-so-secret menu and we got mixed results. Mine was a spicy seafood dish... It was definitely spicy but not the good flavorful kind. Others got really bland tasting noodle dishes as well. Id rather go to my neighbourhood Jim Noodle for better food and service!

ahh yes.. Erik M's thai translated menu. but that's so '06. the next 3 word catch phrase is "specials menu chalkboard". EOM. now if Andy can install my ever beloved hawy tawt into the thai menu for '07, i'd be set for another year. btw, this hawy tawt isn't like any hawy tawt i've had at other Issan restaurants (including Renu Nakorn/Can Coon Thai - both in LA - or at Sticky Rice, etc.), but it's the most texturally interesting version i know. ask for it extra crispy when you see it on the specials board.

Tac Quick is a wonderful restaurant! They make the best Tom Kha soup I have ever had! The Peanut Curry is also delightful. They do make mine a little special since I'm allergic to cilantro, but very tasty. The Pad Thai is great, but the rangoons can be hit or miss. I kind of want to try the secret Thai menu that everyone talks about, but I'm afraid that I'll end up with something from Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. I will someday though. The staff here is very friendly and smiley. There's also a cool vibe- happy clubby music with trendy Ikea decor.

I am Thai....and I can say this place can offer you good thai food! I like spicy wild-boar (special dish) and sticky rice w/ mango. Noodle dishes are at my okay level but nothing outstanding. Try rice dish or curry dish and you won't be disappointed!

  • Dane K.

probably the best Thai I've had in Chicago ...as everyone else says, had to ask for the Thai menu... at the bottom is a "can't miss" section... I picked a dish describing rice with bbq pork, Chinese sausage, hard boiled egg, then a sauce... As it turns out, that's on the regular menu as BBQ Pork. It was about what I expected. Good. The waiter repeated to me several times that it's very sweet, and I was OK with that.... it was indeed sweet. The sauce was thick like glue. I really liked the Chinese sausage portion of the dish.. I probably wouldn't order it again, or if I did I'd get it with sauce on the side--should've listened to the trusty waiter! But it was good still. My friend ordered two entrees, knowing there would be leftovers... crispy noodles and beef, and then some sort of chopped chicken with mushrooms and jalopenos (I don't think it was really on the menu). The chicken dish was great! ..we started off with a garlic pork rib that was on special... the pieces of rib were pretty tender, and very tasty. It's $1/person BYOB. Good deal.. ...on my next visit I had the fish balls (on the Thai menu), papaya salad, and a peanut/curry chicken soup. the fish balls were a tasty appetizer. not too exotic, user friendly... and fried! papaya salad was good. very spicy. and very limey. coconut curry soup was delicious... it had egg noodles in the bottom, chicken, then fried noodles on top. and onions and chicken. a good combination. maybe not something everyone could a ton of at once though. music was weird the second trip around... i guess it's whatever whomever brought in... this day it was enrique iglesias songs, but I don't think they were sang by him? This place is very inexpensive. Most of their entrees are in the $7-8 range, very few are over $10. We had 3 entrees and an appetizer and it was $31 + tip.

Tac Quick is a good Thai restaurant. Which, IMHO makes it a GREAT Chicago Thai restaurant. Somehow I eat at more bad Thai and Vietnamese restaurants than I eat at good ones; this has NEVER been my experience in the Twin Cities (w00t). I just moved out of the Tac-Quick area, and figured I would show them some love as I will have to red line to their door now. This place has a great location right next to the Sheridan Red Line station, and is pretty passable for eat-in goodness. However, expect the music to be real bad, and sort of loud. Not bad in a Gaga/Xtina/Britnasty on full volume sort of way, bad in a Christmas time stuck in an elevator at Macy's sort of way. My usual order: Crab rangoon (so much better here than most places, great cheese ratio) Tac Quick fried rice (real good, Jalapenos really set it off) Entree size is good here, and their delivery is really consistent and fresh. Try this place if you live in the area and haven't already. Probably wouldn't recommend traveling too far out of your way though...

TAC Quick is the cat's meow! I grew up on tasty home-cooked Thai and think of it as my soul food. Now, I've searched far and wide for great Thai in this city and have been to all the others, but when I get my cravings for Thai, Andy gives me the fix I need! His dishes are authentic with well-balanced flavors that keep me coming back for more. If you can't read Thai, then go with the English menu (or grab the Thai menu, point to a dish and you probably won't go wrong!). The satays, tod mun, and grilled squid are excellent starters. I've never tried the crab rangoon because, well, Thai people don't use cream cheese - really, I swear! The som tum, nam tok, larb, and yum woon sen are fantastic. The kai tod, kao phrao gai, and khao mun kai are so good. If you can read Thai (or have found a friend that can), then my friend, you're in thai authentic cuisine heaven! You can't go wrong ordering off this menu. Definitely try the specials, the duck noodle soup, and the boat noodles! I only wish they had pla la prik!

My spouse and I love this Thai restaurant, and we feel fortunate to have it right next to the Sheridan stop on the Red Line. We pass TAC Quick everyday to and from work. It's BYO, inexpensive, and most importantly it's simply the best Thai in town for less than $70 a person (Le Lan / Arun). Everyone of every age loves it from my 8 year old niece to my 80 year old inlaws. Update, 1 year later: TAC Quick was my first review on Yelp, and a bit short. We adore this place, its consistency continues to be its hallmark. I love the hot spicy curries, esp the Massaman and Jungle. We get the gyosa, and my favorite at any Thai restaurant is Larb Kai.

Holy moley! This is the some of the best thai food I've ever had, and let me tell you, I've had some good thai food! Allow me to qualify that statement. From 1995 'til early 2002 I lived in Tacoma WA, and during that time I dated a girl whose mother was a first generation immigrant from Thailand. Noi would make traditional Thai dishes all the time, and would always fix two version of the same dish, one for us and one for her. Our dishes were always amazingly delicious. Her version was exactly the same, except she somehow discovered a method of incorporating the heat of Hell into hers. I'm talking "blow-the-top-of-your-head-off, eye-watering, nose-running" hot. So when I went into TAC Quick and sat down, observing the minimalist decor, I was not expecting the spicy deliciousness that punched me in the mouth. The SomTum was fresh grated papaya goodness, spicy enough to be uncomfortable, but not so spicy that I wanted to stop eating. AND IT HAD DRIED SHRIMP IN IT! I hadn't seen that or tasted such deliciousness since Noi taught me how to make it. Way too many Thai restaurants cut back on the spiciness to accomodate the Western palate. This should be illegal in all 50 states. I followed the SomTum up with the Crispy En Choi. Damn. Damn! Damn it was good! If this dish is on the specials menu when you go, don't hesitate, just order it. Sweet, savory, crunchy, salty, deliciousness awaits you there. The choi was battered and brightly crispy, the shrimp in it were plump and succulent, the ground chicken was juicy and flavorful, and it all came together in (dare I say it?) a taste explosion. Don't hesitate. Take the Red Line to the Sheridan stop. Get off the train. Walk to the street. Turn south. Walk half a block. Go in and sit down. Order dinner and enjoy. Repeat as necessary.

Great authentic Thai food. You must must must ask for the authentic Thai menu and order the basil chicken over preserved egg. Incredible! Everytime me and my 4 dinner buddies eat, we argue over who gets to order this dish! The authentic menu has descriptions of what each of the entrees are, so don't be scared! Oldies but goodies: Their beef salad, pad thai and tom kha soup are also very good. If you want great authentic thai food at a reasonable price, this is the place to go.

OK So I was kinda pissed at TAC quick for a while there..but I kept seeing the name pop up everywhere, and I was like "OK I gotta try it again"..so here I find myself, getting TAC quick at least every other week. Their panang curry is one of the best I've ever hard. Their pad thai is awesome and consistently great. and the spicy basil rolls are to diiiiiiiiie for.

I have been searching and searching for a great thai place. The pad thai was standard, pad see euw was also standard. I ordered a dish off the thai menu that was a little better. The search still continues!!!

By far THE best Thai food in the city that I have found. I have eaten in on several occasions and have ordered delivery as well. I have been really happy with all of my experiences at TAC Quick. For our most recent delivery we had the Panang Chicken Curry noodles, Thai fried chicken, Thai style short ribs and crab rangoon. Everything was fabulous. Even for delivery, the food was hot and amazing. The crab rangoon is seriously stellar-some of the best ever. You know how sometimes the crispy outer edges are tough and chewy? Not here. They are pure perfection. The bf loves his rangoon and was very happy with TAC's. The Thai fried chicken is delicious. It comes with this really sweet/tangy/spicy sauce. Not what I thought it would be for "fried chicken". It was so much better. The Panang is amazing. It comes with a ton of fresh veggies and the sauce is just the right amount of spicy. Yum. The price is definitely right and the food is amazing. Seriously. Go here!

I have eaten there many times. I will refer to my birthday. Went on a Saturday night with a reservation for 18, but 23 ended up coming, and they fit us all in. I had a case of Champaign with me (a gift) and they only charged a corkage fee for like 3 or 4 bottles. Everyone liked what they got, and it was on the cheap side. I would recommend over and over again.

We read a lot of reviews and asked for the "special" menu - it seems to be a must. We split the duck noodles and the bbq pork, rice noodle, ground pork dish. Both were so delicious and we were sweating by the end of it - not from spicy but more from temperature. Highly recommend both dishes as well as the crab rangoon. Service was a bit slow in the beginning but picked up as the place cleared out toward the end of the evening. One waitress stopped and said both dishes were her favorite, and we agreed!

THE BEST Thai food in Chicago. Period. The Pad Mee is a fave, as is the Pad Thai from the Thai menu (not on the regular menu - it's wrapped in an omelet and amazingly good comfort food) , but everything I've had there is good. I also love the fact that it's a byob. The service isn't always phenomenal, but it's good enough, and who cares anyway?

i haven't had thai food in a while, but i thought tac quick was great. i went here with my in laws so i didn't ask for the thai menu but we had one of the specials made with beef brisket and it was delish. we also tried some standards... red curry with tofu, pad thai, the dish called 'basil' and a couple other appetizers, all of which were really tasty. the service was good. i love that it's byob. this is a solid chicago thai option. good to eat: red curry, basil must try: go for the specials, it was worth it for us

One of my favorite thai places in Chicago. They make a little extra effort on presentation and ingredients than some of the true "dives" - which is nice for a little variety. Like most thai food, it works best with a lot of people and a lot of dishes. If you can spend more than $10 - $15 per person you are probably not going to fit out the door. While having nicer ambiance and presentation, they aren't afraid to serve some really interesting things - pork neck, whole fish, etc. Move beyond your pad thai/cashew chicken safety zone, you won't be disappointed. Speaking of ambiance, it nearly cost them a star. The decoration is modern, and I've heard all kinds of music, trending towards modern. I guess I just don't understand what they are going for exactly. Who eats their pork neck in a quiet dance club? I went ahead with the 5 stairs because the oddness isn't really a detraction as much as an oddity, and it's forgotten once the food starts to come.

Minus one star for the soundrack (soft pop? not when I'm there...try c grade dance music). Fresh, bright flavors, creative preparations that are both authentic and modern, inexpensive and visually stunning. Always order from the Thai menu or the specials board. They do a big takeout business and even during the week it gets busy after 7 pm - though you can always find a seat since the expansion. and the soundtrack? Tonight was cover night -- the worst hits of the 70's and 80's played over and over and over. A little better than the dance music they used to favor, but not by much. There's a secret Thai menu there -- here's a link to a translation, so next time you go you can order like a pro: lthforum.com/bb/viewtopi…

I'm just not really a fan. I live next door, so it makes it easy and quick, but the food is just only OK. I always order take away, so I've never eaten inside, but it's very basic and simple, rows of tables, and just enough room to squeeze by. And i feel every time i go in there to pick up, there seems to be a weird aroma. The food is OK, nothing special, a little on the bland side. One of my favorite things is just basic Chicken Pad Thai, not hard, not complicated. But I have to dump in so much hot sauce just to get a flavor. I'll prob continue to buy from there, but only because they're so close. I wouldn't make an effort otherwise.

It doesn't look like much from the outside, but this is a pretty good Thai restaurant. Whether you dine in or carry out, the food here is always consistently delicious. It's good for your standards--pot stickers, pad thai, currys--but the "more daring" selections on the menu are also well done. TAC Quick also has an authentic Thai menu that you have to specially request. I have a copy but have yet to order from it.

I'm really not sure what all the hype is about Tac Quick. I live around the corner and eat there all the time (at least once a week). It's really one of the more mediocre Thai restaurants in Chicago. The food is good, but not great. Sure it's a trendy looking little place, but the food is only so-so. It's definitely ok for a quick carry out meal when you don't feel like cooking. But if you're really in the mood for good Thai food, just keep looking. Chicago has a lot more to offer than Tac Quick.

Best thai around! If only the liquor and service were a bit better.

About Taco Bell

Taco Bell is a haven for Mexican delicacies such as tacos, quesadillas, burritos, nachos, and other specialty items. Owned by Yum! Brands, Inc. Taco Bell is one of the fastest growing American chains of fast food restaurants. The restaurant operates from 7,072 different locations which are mostly run by independent franchisees and licensees.

The background story of Taco Bell is interesting and inspiring for budding entrepreneurs. The fast-food brand is the brainchild of Glen Bell, who started his first food venture as a hot dog seller in San Bernardino, California. The year was 1948. After witnessing long queues outside a Mexican restaurant called Mitla Café across the street, Bell saw the opportunity and demand for hard-shelled Tacos. He reverse-engineered the recipe and later started selling Tacos and called the venture Taco-Tia.

Later, the name changed from Taco-Tia to El Taco. Eventually, Glen Bell sold the company to his partner and opened the first Taco Bell in Downey in 1962. By 1964, the restaurant also got its first franchise in Torrance. The 100th Taco Bell restaurant was opened by 1965. PepsiCo acquired Taco Bell from Glen Bell in 1978 and the restaurant brand is currently a subsidiary of Yum! Brands which looks after the restaurant business of PepsiCo.
