Diabetics at Whataburger

Diabetics need to be a bit cautious while dining at Whataburger. Almost every burger is rich in sodium content and it is highly recommended to keep your burger cravings in control while dining at Whataburger. However, you can always satisfy your cravings for a burger by choosing Whataburger Jr. or other non-burger items from the menu.

Foods to Avoid at Whataburger for Diabetics:

A diabetic should resist from ordering any extra meat-based burger such as Double Meat Whataburger or Triple Meat Whataburger to limit the sodium intake and calories. Most burgers except the Whataburger Jr. are high in sodium and hence should be avoided.

If you are a diabetic, you should also avoid Honey BBQ Chicken Strip Sandwich and Whataburger Patty Melt at Whataburger. Chicken Fajita Taco is also off-limits for diabetics. High Cholesterol at Whataburger

Calorie intake is the main concern for people with high cholesterol while dining at a fast-food restaurant like Whataburger. Well, you can always try the Lighter & Smaller options from the menu to cut down your fat intake. Opting for grilled sandwich or burgers are preferred compared to double meat or triple meat cheesy burgers which contain high cholesterol.

Foods to Avoid at Whataburger for High Cholesterol

Cut down on your meat intake to control your high cholesterol. You must skip Double Meat Whataburger and Triple Meat Whataburger at all costs. I had a lamb dish from the pre-prepared items on display behind the glass counter. The dish was tasty and also very greasy. The mango lassi I ordered was delicious and lukewarm which I was not happy about. The naan was a bit dry. They were out of samosas on both of my previous visits. I will return for the mango lassi and to try the samosas.

great everyday pakistani food at a good price without having to go all the way to devon. Here's how to order: you go to the counter, say hi to the guy standing behind it, and start looking inquisitively at the trays of food. Feel free to ask questions about what's in them because it's not very obvious from their shape, color, form and consistency. You can mix and match any number of things you want (they might smile at you but they won't say no) and then ask for bread or rice with the meal. The place is relatively clean (and i'm not holding the cleanliness against it), the food very authentic! Stick with the pre-made things - the other things from the menu have mostly been a miss.

I had an excellent meal at Tabaq last night with a friend, my first time there. It was very clean and well lit inside. Not much atmosphere, but the fast, delicious, plentiful, and affordable food is the main draw. You order at the back, picking out a main entree (all fresh, already prepared) and choose a side of rice, chapati or naan. Eight of the ten or so entrees were meat-based, so I chose the lentils with naan. My friend selected chicken kebabs with rice. They supplemented both our meals with delicious baked squash (the other veggie entree) and a small side salad with yogurt dressing. Even though the portions were huge, we ate most of it as everything was quite delicious. My favorite was the baked squash. We were charged $8 each which included a drink. The young man who I am assuming is the owner was super friendly, asked for our feedback, and invited us to return... and I certainly will!

Kickass food! 6-7 curry dishes, tandori style bone-in and boneless, tilapia dishes, lamb, beef all with blasting flavor and almost all with a hefty kick. Dishes rotate for the element of surprise. I've been here 6 times and am never disappointed and always excited. Its clean interior is a reassuring element of the whole experience.

Like stepping into Islamabad. This place is the hole-in-the-wall I had been looking for! Great desi food. Everything I tried was full of taste and authenticity. Owner is a nice guy and I encourage you to try all of it. Yes, all the cab drivers go here, but it is for good reason--they know where the best Indo-Pak food is.

I think this place is great. It is no frills for sure, so the complaints about service are sort of misplaced. What service are you talking about? You order at the counter and pick up your own food, pay when you are finished. Now to that food, I think it is very tasty. Like I said previously, it is no frills. We have never had anything made to order and just get what is in the serving dishes. This sort of food isn't suppose to be made to order and is generally slow cooked so don't be turned off by the fact it is sitting there. I really like the rice mix they have with chicken and some excellent clove flavors. I don't know what else is in it but it is like Asian Dirty Rice and comes as part of the combo special. The choices seem to vary and all have been good, some more so then other for sure. Last time we go a fish curry that was excellent and unlike anything I have had before here or otherwise. O, there is a prayer room downstairs if you are in the mood. It is also open 24/7 to satisfy that curry urge after a night of drinking. O, am I the only one. Tabaq, Exactly. RrL

This place is a hidden gem. I eat here at least once a week and it's always consistently excellent. Saturday evenings have the best selection- biryani is always fresh and delicious and I crave the garlicky lentils (although some nights it is a little oily). Meats are stewed to perfection. Naan is baked fresh and served hot. The guys behind the counter are always helpful and friendly. This place is definitely no frills but if you can overlook it, you are in for a treat!

The best Indian/Pakistani food. Though its a Cabbie place, but its very clean. I've tried 4-5 restaurents on Devon, believe me their food is not authentic, they use readymade spices which is bad for health. At this place the food tastes and feels really good, specially whole wheat Naans, they are good. Parking is free on the road and its open 24 hours. Staff is really nice and courteous. I'm Indian and a good cook myself, I strongly recommend this place. Authentic taste.

I was looking for place like this for a while, just good food. Ask the cook, if he was eating what he would order? Order the same thing ( no menu to deal with). I had Biryani, it was great. If you like to try different food, then you would love this authentic stuff, even if you don't have south asian background. This place is open 24x7, one of these days. I will try breakfast. Staff were very friendly. I had them pack chicken bot for me, I shared it with my wife, she loved it.

We ordered what was in the trays because the items on the menu that we wanted to order would take 30+ minutes to make. The curry mutton and chicken was ok. Naan tasted fresh. Still in search of a great Pakistani kabob restaurant in Chicago.

I am surprised by the bad reviews here. I have eaten here twice and my husband has eaten here once. The service isn't the greatest. They don't always move particularly fast, but we have enjoyed the food. Both times I ordered one of the daily specials. The daily specials are prepared in advance and sitting in warmers. They served it up and threw it in the microwave to heat it up more prior to giving it to me. Maybe that was in response to people saying the food was cold? The nan that came with it was yummy and seemed fresh. I thought it was good food with large servings for a reasonable price. I live in the area and will go back. And, if there is a prayer room in the basement, who cares? 1/8/09- Have continued to eat there (I think we are up to 5 times now). We still really like it. The service is slow, but we just think of it as quirky. It is worth it for the food. It took us a bit to understand that they have the five daily specials in warmers at the counter but they don't show up on the menu board. The menu board items are all cooked in the back and it seems they are made to order. We generally get two specials, one with rice and one with nan. It is enough food for dinner and a lunch or two if you like leftovers.

They have a prayer room downstairs which is why some cabbies stop by at different times at the restaurant. Anyone's welcome to pray down there. Nothing scary!

There are a few signs that you've stumbled across a great ethnic restaurant. Number one is (of course) fantastic food. At Tabaq, there's plenty of that. The food is great, with crispy naan, delightfully spiced curries, and wonderful sides. My dinner partner and I almost didn't speak while eating, because we were too busy stuffing ourselves. Number two is enthusiastic service-- people should be happy to share their culture's food with you, the outsider. Tabaq has this in spades. Our waiter was happy to explain the dishes, their components, and made sure to come around later and ask us quite happily how our meals were going. Number three is atmosphere. As someone who has had only passing encounters with pakistani culture, watching the comings and goings at Tabaq is a real joy. There's a small stand at the front that sells cigarettes and other small goods, and some kind of prayer center in the basement. With cricket on the TV, there's not much more that could make Tabaq more authentic. If all that didn't convince you, then perhaps the fact that the menu is a lie will. While they advertise two options: an $8 and a $9 plus extra for drinks, it came out to be $10 even for each of us; one of us with a lassi, the other without. In other words, my understanding was that it's $10 no matter what. It's a great deal for great food and a fun outing. I will definitely go again.

I am writing this as I eat what I just ordered. I work next door, and have yet to mosey on in until today. First off, the people are very nice and helpful when ordering. Secondly and most importantly, this Chili Chicken is flippin awesome. They also make Naan fresh for you and it is huge and soft! Just the right amount of spice and the chicken is very tender. Never mind all of the one or two stars, this place is AWESOME! I will be returning.

Eh. Really wasn't impressed. Our portions were pitifully small, the food had a very pungent flavor (which I normally really like Pakistani food, but this was different), the water glasses actually disgusting, and the salads consisted of only onions and brown carrots. It was definitely very disappointing. Also avoid the sweet rice. The naan was good, and the lassi was delicious, but overall, unless its 3:00 and you're hungry with a friend like us, I'd probs head for another place. I really really wanted to like this place, but alas. Maybe I'll give it another whirl.

I've never had Pakistani food before but this really hit the spot. The restaurant is open 24 hours and is usually filled with cab drivers. Parking is hard to find! We felt a little out of place when we walked in (I was the only girl out of 20 or so patrons!) but there was a guy who was very welcoming and friendly. They don't have any signs up about how the process works, but basically you have two options: small for 7.99 or large for 10.99. You can pick one entree, and then you have the choice or rice or naan. They have lots of options, including vegetarian dishes. Everything is already cooked and out for you to see, kind of like a cafeteria. We went with the lamb briyani and the goat. I would highly recommend the naan- it was fresh and toasty and delicious. You get four giant pieces. The goat was okay- there wasn't a whole lot of it, but I enjoyed dipping my naan in the sauce. The briyani was decent too. It tastes better when you mix in other sauces. You also get a small side salad. So you order your food, sit down, and they call you up to get your food when it is ready. Then, you enjoy your meal, go up to pay, and leave your dishes on the table. 5 stars for amazing prices and really large portions. The two of us ate until we were stuffed and still had a ton of leftovers, which were still good the next day! Also, customer service was great. If you are reallt hungry, you should check this place out!

When I was in college, a friend of mine would bring me home cooked Pakistani food -lamb or chicken biryani as well as lamb curry. It was my introduction to Pakistani food and when ever I go to restaurants, I would compare the food to the home cooking. The food here reminded me of that! I think I am addicted to this place. The portions are large and the prices are right on!

First time here food was okay but not spicy enough. I tasted more salt than spice and the food wasn't aromatic like I am used to. I had the basmati rice with chicken and the chicken seekh i believe it is called which was pretty tasty.

They cater, too. Went to a party and they had catered for 130 people. Every dish was fabulous. You can ask for a selection of Bangladeshi dishes and you won't go wrong as the owner-chef is from Bangladesh.

Take-out is $10.99 for your choice of entree that comes with rice or naan and salad. Dine-in is the same with the additional option of a $7.99 "small" portion of an entree with the same rice or naan and salad. Choose from deliciously seasoned and spiced goat nihari, beef nihari, lentils, chicken korma, chicken makhani, tandoor fish, biryani, etc. etc. Selections change daily and if only I hit the gym more often, I'd come every day to try all of them. Don't be intimidated by the 15 cabs parked outside. The counter service is friendly and helpful too. Authentic, fast, cheap. PERFECT. go now.

Review is for carryout - hubby brought home some frontier chicken, chicken chargha i think and naans. We wanted biryani/some sort of rice.. but they didn't have any on a Sunday night. Frontier chicken was yummy...but nothing out of this world. Same with the chargha. I felt like the food was flavorful without being spicy. Tandoori/chargha or whatever...that was kind of disappointing in the spice department cos i like my tandoori to be really spicy and smokey. The naan were delicious and warm. Erm...we got two free 'sides' - vegetable dish and lentils. They were ok. I want to try their biryani to really see how good their food is. So, hopefully next time.

Good place to try if you're looking for a good Indian/Pakistani restaurant.Food is served cafeteria style.Place is open 24/7 EXCEPT during Ramadan.I know this because I was here and THEY WERE CLOSED.sigh.Prices are reasonable and I can always count on a huge meal for under $15.Its a cabbie hangout. So dont walk in expecting linen tablecloths.Lmao.Us cab drivers know all the good spots sooooo.......YEP!!!! Definetely worth trying.

We landed in Chicago on a Sunday night and knew we would venture to Devon street for an authentic Pakistani/Indian meal...but we broke down the first night decided to give Tabq a shot as it was in the city and naturally the cabbie knew where to go. So, its a cafeteria style spot where the cabbis go--hence it must be GOOD!! The young guy who was taking orders let us taste a few different dishes and we ended up getting the pillao, goat curry and a naan. First off the portions are huge but that does not equate to lack of taste as the food was delish. The pillao was great and so was the goat curry. The only downside was that I wish they could deliver to our hotel. But overall, if in the city this is a solid spot for Indian/Pakistani food.

Wow. I have a new favorite food. Who would have ever guessed it would be called biryani. I'm not even sure I'm spelling or pronouncing it correctly. But I love this place. Super staff, clean place, food is fast and delicious. Small space but that's okay. I'm not here for the atmosphere. I'm here for the biryani.

Friendly Pakistani guy behind the counter (FPGBTC): Hello boss, what can I get you? NP: I'll take my usual: biryani to go, please. FPGBTC serves heaping spoons of aromatic biryani into a Styrofoam box, enough to last me for at least two, maybe even three meals. FPGBTC: You are a doctor, right? NP: No, I am not a doctor. FPGBTC: Oh! You look like a doctor. You should have been a doctor. NP: ... Thank you? Hear that, mom? I may not have become a doctor like you wanted, but at least I look like one! Note: Chicken biryani is served Sunday through Wednesday, mutton pilaw is available on Thursday and Saturday, and mutton biryani, my favorite, is the special on Friday. Also, it's not really mutton; it's goat.

We were in Chicago for a short winter break and arrived late to our downtown hotel by taxi. After finding out that our taxi driver was from India, we started to quiz him on the best places to eat Indian non-veg food. Lo and behold, he said he would be happy to take us to Tabaq as that was the only restaurant open that late into the night (24 hours open) Tabaq was a fantastic experience...the place is a bit shady but never did we feel unsafe. We had two kids with us who could not stop raving about the food. Their best dishes and in order was Chicken Biryani, Goat curry, Goat Biryani and their morning paratha and Indian omelette! Their quantities are large and prices are very reasonable. No fancy place to eat but entirely hearty meals that satisfies the soul! Oh, don't miss their chai and kheer!

Food is cheap and good. You see a lot of taxis outside. I generally believe taxi drivers know one of the best places to eat in town. The only drawback is it's buffet so it's all lukewarm but not made to order hot food

A solid 3.5 stars if it was possible. Cabbie fare. Dive. Curries & naan with decent biryani. It was a random Monday night and I thought I was headed into the city to meet a friend for a few drinks. Unbeknownst to me, he needed to feed as well. Frontier was closed as were so many other spots I wanted to go to, since we were driving past, my buddy suggested here. My buddy is a fan of cabbie joints, I can't say that I'm much of one. The place is open 24 hours and there's a Middle Eastern kabobs and shawarma joint next door that is also open the same hours. This place gets cabbie traffic often and you can see a few parked in front. The distinct smell of bathroom disinfectant was detected as we entered, though it was heavily masked with the smells of curries. That one detail was enough to send me running but my buddy persisted that we try. See, cabbie joints, much of the time are not that great. It's substandard food, always available and the cost to me is typically paid with discomfort and a lot of gas. Moving on. There was a language barrier that dude was trying to sell me. Probably horse shit, since I specified I was ordering for my buddy and I WAS NOT EATING. I told this dude three times what the order was and that I wasn't eating. It's cafeteria style, so you place your order and when its ready, pay upon pick up. They might fill the plate off the line and serve it up immediately, depending on the options chosen. My buddy got his stuff and paid. Then indicated to me that the counter guy was calling for me. This dude prepared a combination platter of curry, naan and a plate of biryani! He's motioning like I ordered it. I didn't. After some back and forth, I took the damn plate and paid twice as much as my friend did. Good thing he paid and once I looked over the food, a part of me was cuisine curious. I want to tell you that I hated it. But I didn't. It had taste and a nice level of spicy to it. The mutton curry could have had more meat and less bones but in a cabbie joint, this is expected. Between the curries, Mutton curry was best. We also had some chicken curry which was a standard good. The naan was prepared fresh and hot. The biryani was that tri-colored bullshit but it had a good flavor to it and was moist, although it had too many bones. Often times tri-colored biryani sucks balls because it lacks moisture, enough paste that gives it flavor and meat. Restauranteurs think that a customer would be wowed with its color. Which is why biryani is best ordered at a 4 or 5 star restaurant or at someones home, its seldom tri-color then. Despite what any Indian person tells you, (because we all think we know better) in my experience the best biryani is made by some Muslims, some Vellore Tamilians and if you like it hella spicy, peeps from Andhra. This is a Muslim joint and I'm telling you, this one time I tried it, it was pretty good. Earlier I mentioned cabbies galore and what else? Well within the restaurant is a stairway leading downstairs to a prayer room. It happened to be Ramadan when we dined. During Muslim holiday / fast, their eating times are observed and food is served accordingly. A home made sign was made and posted in the window. I mention this factoid mainly because I realize that some people may choose to avoid a place due to the practice of religion. I say, if you are willing to try, say a prayer and dig in. While we ate we could hear their prayers recited as well as echos from the satellite television news speaking of current affairs happening abroad. At the front of the restaurant is an odd placement of a counter with an attendant selling what looks like aftermarket cell phone supplies. Their attempt to "catch-all" business.

Finally a good Pakistani restaurant in the city! I was a bit skeptical about this place considering its a cabbie joint and the sighting of any females in here is a rarity. I decided to check this place out and I was impressed! It's definitely not a fancy place but who cares! No frills = good food at an affordable price! MUST HAVES: The chicken biryani and frontier chicken are delicious DESERT: Gulab jamun PS,, don't try to to bring any alcohol in here, it is far from a BYOB type of place.

I love Tabaq! Really good Middle Eastern/Pakistani/Indian food. Very spicy, very tasty. The predominantly Middle Eastern clientele demonstrates the food's authenticity in my view, and everyone is welcome. The owner is really cool. The restaurant is not exactly fancy, but it is very reasonably priced, and you get a lot from what you pay for (you can get a full meal with two entrées, a salad and a giant naan for only $8).They are open 24/7, which is great for late night snacks. Overall, down-to-earth, well priced and great food.

There are a bunch of Pakistani cafeteria places on the near north side that primarily cater to cabbies. I've tried several, and this is the one to choose if you're not part of this culture and you just like ethnic foods. They are very welcoming and friendly to randoms like me. We enjoyed the spicy biryani and a vegetarian combination (dal and mixed veggie curry) with naan. Despite the steam table, everything tasted fresh, and the portions were gigantic. I had plenty to take home for lunch the next day. Don't come here expecting a gracious dining experience. It's just a clean, home-style, no-frills place to try new foods and eat with some Chicagoans from around the world.

Some of the best food comes from these 'hole in the wall 'joints such as with this spot where taxi cab drivers frequent. My cousin goes here several times a week and is obsessed with the biryani and I am a huge fan of the butter chicken and the minced meat, usually chicken beef or lamb. The people who run this place are very friendly, though you might have to remind them of exactly what you want but if you treat them nice, they hook you up with bigger portions or give you things for free to try it out such as when I was asking about their halvva, a colorful sweet, kind of bright orange in color. The place is clean, full of random taxi cab drivers or a group of them that met to eat and chat. Late at night you will find random people like me walk in because they know the secret about how cool this place is for feasting. I love the naan here, it is very close to the Peshawari naan which is the absolute best. This place is open all night so its a great late night spot and I alway seem to find parking rather close to the front entrance. Hearing all these different languages and watching the Urdu news stations is always interesting. This place is highly recommended and they also make food for parties or special events.

I'm a big fan of spicy food and there're very small number of restaurants in/around Chicago that serve authentic Indian/Pakistani food and this is one among them. The good thing is, you don't have to empty your wallet to get food for a group/family. The price is generally $9.99 for a full entry that includes a curry, roti/naan and a small salad. Their chicken biryani, frontier chicken, haleem are really good. I always bike there and get a carry out order, so never cared about the ambiance. But if you're looking for dining with family/office team, i would recommend finding an other place. Other than that, this place is great! Pros - Freshly made and authentic, Cheap, Free street parking. Cons - Ambiance and Location (Cabbie joint, not recommended for fancy dining)

So after a long day of spending way too much on furniture for our new apartment, my boyfriend and I had built up quite the appetite. This place was right around the corner and had good ratings, so we tried it. Man, am I glad we did! We've never tried Pakistani cuisine before so it was an intriguing place to try out. Based on some of the other yelp reviews I tried the chicken biryani. So good! I'm not real familiar with my Pakistani cuisine so I'm not real sure what my boyfriend had. He had something the guy behind the counter suggested bc it was spicy. I wish I remembered what it was because it was really good too. We had naan with a dipping sauce of some kind that was awesome as well. Good food, good service, try it!

ok I can't write essay's like other user have. But this is place is good. I was told to try their Charga, which I have to agree was really delicious. My 2 yr old is a picky eater, but he loved the chicken to. I tried other stuff, like Murgh Cholay, daal, while I liked the daal, hubby like Murgh Cholay, and kids loved the Charga, everyone was happy. Naan were decent size, and tasted good. They would have been better eaten fresh, but we did a take out, so they got soft. Our First night in chicago, and they made it feel like home. I am told this is a taxi driver type place, you never see women, and i'll have to agree I waited out side of the restaurant while hubby went and got the stuff, and didn't see one female pass by. Great prices as well!!

Good food, but I was overcharged like Ray C below, same experience. Would have been a 4-star review, but Ray C's review confirmed my suspicions. If you go, I would definitely confirm the order total right after you order, either eating in or ordering over the phone. Do not get the total price after-the-fact. I suspect different rates are being charged to different customers.

We found this place on Google map which has a lot of excellent reviews. We drove by and it's much more crowded than other restaurants near by. Walked in without knowing much about Pakistani food and we were the only non middle eastern group in the restaurant. But the staffs were so friendly. They explained all the dishes in details so we could make our choices in a breeze. They even made a special chicken dish for my 7 yr old who doesn't like spicy food. That chicken dish (see photo) was outstanding. We also ordered the tilapia and a chicken rice dish that they're both very good. We'll be back! Just wish their restroom is a bit cleaner.

This place is really good. The food was outstanding - had chicken biryani and the guy in front of me asked to have some mutton stew juice drizzled over his so I did the same. Wow! Tasty! The entrees come with either nan or chipatis or pakoras. I got the pakoras and picked up a mango lassi too. I saw other people with nan and asked for that as well. The total came to just over 15.00. I paid with a 20 and he gave me 5 even back. It was too much food for one person. Like I said, the biryani w/ mutton juice was sublime. It came with a small salad of lettuce, white onions and sliced jalapenos. I like! There was some greenish yoghurt sauce that might have been for the salad -- not sure -- but I dipped the pakoras into it and poured the rest on my biryani. The nan was really good and hot. The mango lassi was absolutely amazing! I kept seeing men (some in traditional dress) come in and go downstairs. A few minutes later they would come up and get food. I assume they were going downstairs for prayers because I noticed a review here last night mentioning a sign detailing prayer times. I didn't see the sign but I would like to think I was eating above a room where a lot of people were praying. I'm an atheist myself but I appreciate the hearts of people who pray and I like to be around them as long as they are people of love. I sensed no ill will there and didn't feel out of place. Hopefully I'll get a chance to go back before I leave town. I only wish I could sample a little of each option. Maybe I'll have the daal next time.

This is the Cab Hotspot in Uptown Chicago. The street looked like a fruit basket filled with different colored Cabs. Which means, you probably don't want to come here with your significant other or family. If you're coming with a bunch of guy friends you'll be just fine... or you can take it for carry out. The cabbies are super friendly, and even though this is desi food, they all aren't desi. I tried two things: Haleem and Chicken biryani. The haleem was great! I ate like 3 bowls. They are known for their chicken biryani (according to all my friends), and I loved that too. Parking is very very difficult. We always park on a side street and walk over. Sometimes we get lucky and get parking next door, sometimes we need to walk 5-10 minutes. I go here once a year in the summer, see you next year Tabaq.

ALWAYS OPEN I have been dying to eat here for years. I always drive by & there is not a single parking spot outside on the street. All of those spots are always occupied by taxis. I even got an incredible recommendation from Dr. Nishan, a fellow Yelper, whose review about Tabaq is quite humorous. Nishan calls it his favorite and now I know why. We were driving down the street when I saw a cab pulling out of a parking spot. We were hungry & decided today was the day we try Tabaq. We walked in & were greeted by the owner. He was so friendly and we loved talking to him. He went through all of the dishes and pointed out his favorites. We were so excited and couldn't decide. He even gave us a sample. After our sample we were sold & placed our order. We ordered a Haleem which is ground dal (lentil) with shredded beef. It came with a salad, fresh baked naan & a mint-cilantro sauce called raita. The haleem was so good and spicy. It was perfect food for a cold chilly day in Chicago. The spice warmed up every inch of my body. The dish would not win any awards for looks but it is a perfect 5 stars based on taste. If you don't believe me then go & check my photo but it's an ugly dish. Ha! I can hardly wait to come back & have this again. We read several reviews about the Chicken Biriyani being the best item on the menu. We couldn't deny all of those comments & we went for it. The plate was huge. It was stacked so high it almost touched the ceiling & I must admit it was everything everyone was is it would be. I would definitely order this item again on a return trip. It came with a side salad &!three chunks of chicken on the bone. I really had to work the chicken because it was not the user friendly chicken we all get at an American restaurant. This was meat chunks with tiny little bones everywhere. If you're looking for easy then this place is not for you. I love authentic and in my heart I feel like this place delivered. Our two dishes were a ton of food and we had a feast on our table. The owner came over to check on us & we were so excited about the food. He even brought over a ground chicken kabob patty with grilled onions & jalapeños. The patty was dry but full of fantastic flavors. It was the best chicken burger I've ever had. I'm so glad the owner brought this over because I was curious about how it tasted. It was a new way of serving chicken kabobs and much more easier to eat. The owner even brought over Kheer which is a rice pudding with hints of cinnamon. He told us to eat it after we finished our food. It was really cute. He didn't want us to eat dessert before we cleaned our plates off. This was a perfect way to end our late lunch. It wasn't too sweet but had the right amount of flavor. We made our way back to the counter to pay for our meal. Yes they are very trusting here and you pay after you are done eating. All dishes are $8 except for the grilled fish which is $10. It makes it totally easy to order and pay. Of course we started talking to the owner and he talked about the special Halal meat. He also informed us that it was much more expensive the normal meat from Jewel. I knew most of this but it's great to hear a restaurant owner talk with pride about the quality of his food. He also told me to come back any time because he never closes. I wish I was still in my younger years because this place would be my new 3am burrito joint. It's funny how time changes and lifestyles change. The owner asked me to come back this Friday after 2pm because he is making chicken kabobs that will impress me. I told him I couldn't make this Friday but I would defiantly come back on an upcoming Friday. I just thought he was such a nice person and is everything you want in a restaurant owner. His friendliness & kindness towards us makes us want to come back again & again. If you do decide to come here then don't be afraid. There is a good chance you will be the only person here who doesn't drive for a living. Not once will you feel out of place. Eating here reminds me of my culinary adventures around the world but I'm in my own backyard of Chicago. This is why I love this city. You can drive from neighborhood to neighborhood to get the most authentic traditional food ever. This makes Chicago a culinary treat for me. We also met a doctor who comes in here every day for a green tea chai with milk. He recommended we get one, while we were talking to the owner. Next thing we knew the owner had poured two for us to take. This place rocks. I had never had this drink but it was unique and good. Honestly this place is the best. In closing, thanks to the owner for caring about newbie customers. You invited us in & treated us to a grand experience. We can not wait to come back & eat here again. We also learned that the food changes daily at the back counter, so we could have a different food adventure every day of the week and at any hour. We're ready for that challenge.

Just excellent. I went here with a buddy late one night and we both got a spicy lamb dish for around $12 after tax. The food was delicious! Also, the serving size was so large that I got three small meals out of it, and I eat quite a bit. This place is awesome.

You should probably know what you are getting into before going here... Not for the uninitiated, but if you are looking for a place with great Pakistani food at anytime this is hard to beat. Great food and really a fix for biryani when you need it. I wish I lived in Chicago to order more take out from here.

Decent food. Place seems good. I ordered the chicken briyani and some meat and potatoes. The quantity was low for the price. One thing I cannot understand is why do they charge $3 more for takeaway. That's a huge margin.

Having tried out a number of the fine establishments on Devon Ave., there were a bunch of recognizable items though one of my favs, Haleem, wasn't on there today. The only item I tried was the mutton curry. I was hoping for more mutton, but the flavor made up for it - not too spicy and not too watery. Not sure why my order came out to $13.05 for just mutton curry, naan, and a side of white rice, but Jawad was nice enough to let me try some Halwa. Maybe that's why it became $13.05? I was full for the whole night though, so it certainly did the trick. Worth a try if you can handle flavorful, slightly spicy Pakistani food. Will certainly be back!

Based off the recommendation of fellow yelpers, I ordered the frontier chicken with naan and extra rice for take-out. The chicken was great, and is definitely recommended for fans of spicy food, and was well complimented by the naan and accompanying sauce (could've used a little more) which took some of the heat off. While the cost for one plate ($15) might seem high, it was definitely enough for two people. I'd definitely go back again.

This is a great Pakistani/Indian/Bangladeshi restaurant near the down town! Most of the foods are awesome, specially mutton biriyani, chicken biriyani, paratha, grilled chicken, lentil, mutton curry, etc. The price is quite reasonable as well. The interior is very ordinary, and the restaurant is a hot-place for cabbies, but the quality of food is extra-ordinary. The best subcontinental food in Chicago!

I've always heard great things about this restaurant but was a little leery of actually going in. This would be the day!!! I came in with my husband and walked up to the display case to see the offerings. They had lamb, beef, chicken, fish, naan, lentils, rice and on and on. We settled on the chicken biryani and beef haleem. Both were delicious and came with a side salad and naan. The owner is super nice and incredibly hospitable. Ladies, you WILL be the only female in the place, unless of course you bring a friend. I didn't feel uncomfortable at all until I looked down to see that I was wearing my leather knee high boots. (whoopsy...this is my own fault) I think I will be dressing a little different the next time around! Can't wait to come back!!!

O officially love this place, great food, just awesome, and best value for money in my view... probably one of the most authentic place for Pakistani food, better than most places on Devin to be honest.

My wife and I have often driven past this restaurant in a non-descript area of Clybourn. We had always noticed a lot of cabdrivers frequented Tabaq (always a good sign!) and my wife, who's Pakistani, and I thought we'd give it a try. There are very few truly authentic Pakistani restaurants off of Devon and the few that we've found were either overpriced (compared to Devon) or unsanitary. We've finally found our go-to place! The food is fantastic, authentic, spicy and reasonably priced. It's also only 3/4 mile from our home when we're craving Paki cuisine. We had the Frontier chicken, Biryani, Nihari, and samosas. It was outstanding across the board. The one complaint was the temperature of the food but it's not a place where you want to dine in anyway and we just warmed it up at home. Highly recommended!

Mind blown!!! 24/7 cabbie Pakistani food. The most authentic Pakistani food I have tasted in the United States hitherto. Everything I tasted from the daal, squash, lamb (which I think was goat), chicken, naan, chappati, mint chutney to the gulab jaman and doodh pati tasted amazing and transported me back to Pakistan. It wasn't just good it was something I'd rate a 5/5 on yelp if I was back home in Pakistan! Food like my grandma made it. I admit I haven't tried the other Pakistani food spots in Chicago yet and I am a little desi food deprived living in Rochester NY but I have tried them in other big cities. No comparison. Just a delicious bliss. Oh and it's as cheap as it gets. Probably cheaper than ordering pizza. Excellent helpful friendly staff. Prayer area in the basement. Seating and restroom like what you'd expect from a cabbie place but very clean (seating not the restroom). I think I might have to move to Chicago. Thank you Tabaq for making me miss home a little bit less.... or maybe more?

Ever wonder where cab drivers go when they're not working? Well...here is a popular spot. I was the only person eating inside that hadn't rolled up in a yellow and black and I think that's a pretty good sign if you're looking for authentic Pakistani food. I was a first timer, but this cuisine is really cheap, served in huge portions, and incredibly flavorful. Served cafeteria style at Tabaq there were options of chicken, lamb, veggie, and talapia. You will RARELY hear me say this, but after my meal here I'd recommend going vegetarian with your order. Not that the meat wasn't any good, but the squash dish was awesome and the lamb was a bit boney. Overall the service was friendly, the food was very affordable, and they'll even let you sample stuff if you've a new to Pakistani food so it's totally worth a stop in.

Writing a review because the young man working behind the counter yesterday on Labor Day was incredibly nice. Like any other Pakistani person, my all time favorite food is Nihari, so I went into this place craving it after not having it in a while. I just moved to the Gold Coast area and Devon is a hike for me. To my disappointment they were all out of Nihari and just had the gravy left. I was starving so I still asked it I could buy just the gravy, and a few minutes later I received piping hot Nihari, naan, raitha sauce and toppings for FREE. I mean I know there was no meat left in the gravy but still awfully nice of them to pack it up so nicely for me and not charge me. Needless to say I have found my new go-to spot in the area.

Going to Tabaq is like being magically transported to the Middle East....but ignore the fact that it's located in a questionable area on Clybourn next to the shadyass Dominick's. I had always wanted to try Tabaq out ever since my Indian cabbie recommended their biryani. Went on an early Friday evening and noted how busy it was and filled with all male cabbies! (I was the only girl.....felt kinda awkward) The food is cafeteria style and we chose a large lamb biryani, side of lamb stew, veggies, and naan. Each order also comes with a small salad and spicy or non spicy yogurt sauce. All of our food tasted GREAT and was seasoned so well, like if i I had a Pakistani mom. The lamb was really tender and the biryani was super flavorful. I would definitely come back to Tabaq, I highly recommend it as not only a great food adventure, but a cultural experience as well!!

Tabaq is an authentic Indo / Pak mughlai dhaba (cafe) style food where what you see is what you get. There is nothing made to order, you get what has been made fresh that day. There are pros and cons of this approach I had the green daal - good, not spicy, goat korma - great and spciy, chicken biryani - great and spciy, naan, mango lassi and chai. Food was flavorful = fair amount of oil. Leaves you full for the entire day, and you can skip dinner or double up on the cholestrol meds. Meal was shared with my little 5 year old who pretty much ate the naan with yogurt because everything was spicy for her, she's 5 after all ! Cash register is manned by a young fellow by the name of Javaad who is a co-owner and he really took care of us. When I complained that my goat curry was mostly bones, he brought some pieces with meat. Food was decent and the service was good, it was a late sunday afternoon so not many people Having lived in and around downtown Manhattan and San Fran where arguably the best Indo or Pak restaurants are to be found, I have been disappointed in not having anywhere near the same in downtown Chicago. Why is that I wonder??
