i was going to get some carryout yesterday since i was in the area but when i looked into the case where the pumpkin slices were located, there was a roach crawling around the bottom of the case. i told a man behind the counter there was a roach running around the bottom of the case. he killed it it but it grossed me out and i left. i know that most places of business have them, i just don't want to see them. if there is a roach in the daytime in a lighted case running around, i think they must have a big problem. sorry, but i will not return.

I've been coming to this bakery/deli for about 20 years now and it is still the best bakery I know of. The pizza is sooo good, I think it is the sauce that gets you. The roast beef is the best you'll ever have and the pastries are too addicting. Just recently they opened up their menu to include a lot of italian cuisine...everything from pastas to paninis. I haven't had a whole lot on the new menu but what I did have was very tasty; the bleu burger was nice, E's chicken alfredo was tasty, and the pasta al forno was also very tasty. My goal is to try one of everything...do not miss out on this place.

This bakery has been a neighborhood staple for a long time! I remember my mother buying me pizza from there when I was little, and I'm now 43. I have always loved their pizza, and their desserts, but they have a new thing there. Not only do they offer deli meats, cheeses and Italian specialties, but they offer food! Fresh Italian pasta dishes, that are yummy and as good if not better than some restaurants, that are supposed to specialize in Italian food. They have fresh cut french fries that were wonderful, and their panini sandwich was refreshingly tasty. I am very happy that they are offering food, and definitely will be back to take advantage of more of their pasta dishes, and anything else I can try from there. Go, you won't be sorry, especially if you love Italian food.

Great pizza and super affordable! I always order it and serve as appetizers for all of my family parties and have never heard a complaint. Their baked goods are fantastic as well! The fact that they deliver is a plus, however I tried to get delivery on a Sunday and was advised they do not deliver on sundays. This didn't discourage me from ordering again, but this information would have been helpful to read on their menu ( it was not stated on the menu).

This is my top notch - go-to bakery. Being an ex-NYer, I love their sicilian style pizza! Finally a place in Chicago that compares to home! Their sweets are pretty fabulous, they have deli meats, cheeses, olives, etc. The bread is by far the best I've had - hard on the outside, but nice and moist on the inside. It's so reasonably priced!!

I bought a couple of creme filled almond cookie/pies, creme filled green cookies and a cannoli. Mold had completely infected one of the cookie pies and the other one was so old the corn syrup had seeped through the wax paper. My girlfriend almost puked. The cannoli was old - but ok.

My family and I have been coming here for years for their bread and Sicilian pizza - both outstanding! I was sooooo excited when I got a menu in my mailbox - they are now serving a full menu of paninis, pasta, chicken, ribs, etc. I couldn't wait to try it! I went with my husband and son just this past weekend and we ordered a grilled chicken panini and a turkey panini. My husbands was a little overdone and when it was brought to the table, they told us they were already making a new one, but feel free to start with the one we had. I looked at it, and it really looked perfectly ok to me! We ended up taking the second sandwich home and they threw in a free brownie and eclair as an apology! You can't beat the price, sandwich, chips and soda for $6.25!! Take that Panera! I can't wait to try more of the menu, we plan to make it a regular Saturday event for the rest of the summer. I was told that homemade gelato is on the way as well - I may never leave the bakery!! Whether you are in the area or not, you have to stop in. Don't expect anything inside to be fancy or trendy, it's just awesome Sicilian food made by awesome Sicilians! Mangia!

I am ADDICTED!!! I discovered this gem about a year ago and I love it. It's dangerous because I live about 2 blocks away. It's a great neighborhood spot w/lots of regulars, or should I say, dedicated followers. Their pizza is fantastic, the cheesecake is amazing and the breads and salads are always fresh! Oh, and the pasta, perfect! I get the lasagna, it's so good! The prices are so fair, especially for the quality food and the amazing service. I always go in thinking I'm just going to grab a slice and I leave w/a slice and some sort of yummy, sweet treat, and sometimes I even get myself lunch for the next day, lol. Recently I bought a cannoli cake for a birthday at work, there was nothing left, people were fighting over it. They also came in a bit early so I could pick up fresh in the morning w/out being late to work, now that's service. If you've never tried it you have to go in and try something, anything! Thanks for always providing good food and great service.

This place has the BEST cannoli's anywhere. They make them still by hand and are the freshest anywhere. Definitely something everyone should try. If you are a cannoli connoisseur I guarantee these will be the best you ever have.

This is a great place. The service is top notch. The slices of pizza are delicious and fresh and very cheap. They have recently expand there menu like crazy so much more than pizza. Everytime I go back there I said I;m going 2 explore new items but I stick w/ the pizza its that good. Also wonderful bread and all the girls behind the counter are very nice & helpful. They have been in business since 1969 so they are doing something right! If you are in the area worth stopping by.

Their focaccia is delicious. We've traveled to Italy many times and their focaccia pizza is quite comparable. Their bakery items are quite tasty too! They recently expanded so so it seems things are still a bit in the works, but if you are looking for good good a a reasonable price, give this place a try. We have made it a habit to pick-up their focaccia and sandwiches on the weekends.

Tried this spot for the first time recently after a menu was put in our mailbox. Seems like a nice little neighborhood spot. We ordered some takeout dishes - a steak sandwich and lemon chicken - from the extended menu and both were really great! I had to wait for a few minutes when I got there so the lady at the counter threw in a cannoli for free. Will definitely be back.

What a lovely place! If they have been in buisness since 1969 they must be doing something right and trust me- they are! I had a dentist's appointment nearby and stumbled across the store. When I walked inside, I was greated with a "hello" and a smile. The staff was friendly and up-beat and made my first visit a pleasent one. My visit was on a Saturday and in mid afternoon, so my experience may have differed if I went there on a weekday. However, I am positive the time or day would not matter becuase they know how to treat a customer right. I was not really hungry, so I just purchased some treats. I found the bread pudding to be quite delicious. Granted, the items are a bit pricey, but if it means my money goes to a small time local landmark and not a large super market- I am perfectly content! The only downside was that I could not eat anything for an hour and a half becuase I just had my teeth cleaned!

I wish you could rate food and sevice separately...the pizza very tasty although skimpy on the toppings and this was my 3rd and last time ordering...it's always some excuse as to why my order was wrong or incomplete...tonight 2 deliveries and still got it wrong and then no answer and no call back after leaving 2 messages...they need help...Fred was really nice but blew it by not calling me back...I'm done...I wonder how long they'll last?

They have gone CRAZY & opened expanded their business, no EXPLOADED their business. They do delivery and their menu has tripled. I was excited to get their menu & ordered the next day. Well...hour 30 minutes later I got my soggy cold food! I called & discussed with the manager and he was very apologetic so that was good. Anyhow, I think they just bit off more than they can handle & there are going to be some long growing pains. I'll order again in a few months when I hope the delivery and food quality has gone up. 3 stars b/c I have faith!

Very interesting but no menu on walls. So I had to ask what I could get. Then I saw a paper menu on counter and was able to place my order. The sandwiches were ill and for that the favorable review. I have got to try more of their stuff will come again. It was a bit pricey but the sandwich came with chips and soda.

This ma and pa place is so yummy. They have gotten up at 3am every day for probably 50 years. The pizza does rock. They under cook it so that you can warm up the pizza in the oven at home. If you order to eat there ask to warm up in oven. In march they make the most yummy desserts for St. Joseph called ZEPPOLI. they only make these 3 weeks out of the year so hurry up after the 19th they're gone. Zeppoli- french donut filled with custard. they fill them w /cannoli to but i like custard much better. The bread rocks , order the Arrangini( balls of rice filled with meat and fried) for a party , you'll be a hit.

If you want any good service from this place, don't order and have it delivered. They don't know the difference between fried chicken with vesuvio mashed potatoes and vegetables and half baked chicken with french fries. WHEN YOU ORDER FRIED CHICKEN WITH MASHED POTATOES AND VEGGIES, YOU SHOULD GET FRIED CHICKEN WITH MASHED POTATOES AND VEGGIES not HALF BAKED CHICKEN WITH FRENCH FRIES. I DON'T EAT FRENCH FRIES. Plus they said they would call back in 5 minutes and never called back. We called back after 10 minutes and were told they would call back in 5 minutes. They never did. So, we called back and told them to send the right. order. I was ready to drive it back there and dump it on their counter. I am still waiting for the corrected order 1/2 hr later.

Great pizza. Like others have said, they have it partially cooked in the case so that if you want to eat it there they can pop it in the oven for you and it will be fresh. I always take it home and then bake it myself as I want it. I keep a few slices in the freezer for when I need a pizza fix. This is great Sicilian pizza, square and thick. The cannoli and cookies are great also. I eat too many of the biscotti, my favorite are the orange which have pieces of chewy orange baked in. The people are great, very friendly. And the prices are way better than the grocery store. They have a parking lot, so no need to pay for parking. No credit cards.

Went there on a recommendation because its relatively close in proximity to my house. First time was not so bad. Enough to bring me back for 1 more try. That said, second experience was terrible. 3 people in front of me walked out because of how long they waited for a sandwich. Upwards of 30+ minutes. I order a slice of pizza (which I really do like) and a classic Italian. Pizza took about 5 minutes to heat up and usually holds me over until my sandwich arrives. I had the day off so I really wasn't in any rush, however watching the flow of things and how customers were being handled I was shocked. 1 guy was training (so he couldn't handle meats) and the other girl was taking care of everything. They looked like they were running around in all directions with no flow of things. Guy in back (might be owner) is hard to understand and is rarely seen in front. Also, bread for the sandwiches is just so-so. Anyhow, after 30 minutes, the owner comes out with what looked like meatballs and marinara...which I said that was not what I ordered. All I wanted was an Italian deli sandwich. He was apologetic and so was the girl working there so who knows...maybe it was just an off day. My only advice: Stop having high school kids run your business and an additional person working up front might be helpful too.

Just tried this place after passing it a bunch of times on my way home. I took home foccacia, pizza, a cannoli, and a napoleon for about $10 bucks. Good deal! I wasn't sure how the focaccia and pizza were gonna be warming them up at home. I was a bit skeptical. They were actually wonderful! The friendly girls working there told me to put it in the oven for a few minutes on about 300 but watch it carefully. They also informed me that there are some people who come there everyday. Anyway, The focaccia was nice and crispy on the outside and doughy and soft inside just the way I like it. The pizza was pretty good. And the cannoli! WOW!! It was probably one of the best I've had! It wasn't too sweet or overpowering. I haven't had the napoleon yet but if the cannoli is a sign of what their pastries are like, I'm sure I'm in for a real treat. They had a big deli with all the Italian meats and cheeses. So I will definitely be back for lunch and dinner in the future. Or maybe just to pick up some pastries for dessert one night. Heads up: They accept credit card with a $10 minimum purchase

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
