Great salads and sandwiches, but I wish the lady with red hair (in her face and my food) would put on a hair net!!!

I took to heart some of the earlier comments about the rubber chicken and so I sampled it first. Yup, it's processed and has no flavor. I would give this place 3.5 stars if I could. The portions are generous and the veggie toppings are really fresh. It's unlimited toppings for $9, except for the albacore tuna which I think is an extra $2. My salad was very very good. I stopped by after my long run on Saturday (yes, it wasn't too chilly) and it was a great way to complement my workout. Don't forget the roll you get as part of your meal. One thing that kinda bothers me about these salad places is that I generally don't put meats on my salads (no chicken, bacon, etc) to avoid the added salt and processed foods. Yet, I'm still paying the same price as someone who could load up on all the proteins (the meats, not the beans or eggs). Maybe I'm being picky, but it seems that I could pay a little less if I'm getting essentially a vegetarian salad with an egg. I will come back.

Great location! And lots of choices! Ordered the Pesto turkey and its so delish. 1st time coming but ill definitely be back.

I've been here a couple times since I used to live around the corner, but the service is really slow and it's a little pricey for a salad. Granted, the ingredients are really high quality and it's totally customized to what I want, but if I want a salad I don't really want to wait 20 minutes to get one.

Served a very poor quality salad by a person with a very poor quality attitude. Ate three bites and pitched it. Waste of $11. Not sure if this place sucks or if she sucks but I won't be going back. This place is like a Subway specializing in salads, but a salad from Subway would be 100 times better and maybe you'd get a 'hello'!

I pretty much come here every day for the buffalo wrap. It is pretty much the best wrap I have had in my entire life. Most of the staff is friendly though there is one older lady who's attitude seem really poor and I somewhat dread when she makes my food. But the rest of them are great. I still recommend the place to my friends.

Had a veggie salad and a chicken wrap. The veggies were fresh. The place is a bit expensive but on the plus side you can have huge quantities of salad as the price is not dependent on weight. Definitely recommend it!

I have tried this place three times and it only got worse. Had a salad, a wrap, and sandwich. Awful. Don't waste your time or money.

Years ago this place was called Veg Out, and I had a super boring salad there. Now it's called Salad House and I still skip the salads. but their wraps are soooooooooooooooo yummy!! And huge, and a really good value. I usually get the spinach wrap. They have multiple choices of wraps. Then there are lots of filling choices. I usually get the chicken avocado with cilantro lime dressing. I try to make it last two meals. I've also tried the tuna which was very tasty as well. You also get chips with your wrap. There's a whole bunch of yummy dressing options. If I went out to lunch more often than once a month, I'd be here all the time.

Try the Buffalo Chicken Wrap!! Really fresh ingredients and the flan was also excellent.

Salad House is a great place that makes it easy to eat healthy. The food is fresh and you can create your salad with tons of toppings to choose from. The prices are good and everyone is really nice.

Visited this establishment for the first time. The fresh ingredients were of your typically variety; olives, tomatoes, feta, chicken, bacon, etc. The worker was kind enough, and it was nice that they don't put a limit on how many ingredients you can add (that i saw of) and that the roll was not an additional charge. What I am not happy about was the . . . . (1) the protein is not cooked right there. The chicken was obviously cooked in a factory somewhere and shipped over. It reminded me of tyson already cooked and sliced chicken. Far from fresh chicken cooked that day. (2) there were no exotic/fun options to add to your salad. And by that i mean just certain things were not there. i.e.- steak, goat cheese, cherries, etc (3) the lettuce portion was fairly skimpy for a $9 salad. Id guess about 3 oz portion. (4) I also would suggest more dressing options. Such as a spicy ranch, a red wine vinaigrette, and a fresh lemon juice option. All and all it was ok, and I probably would visit again. But not quite what I was hoping for.

So many good things about The Salad House and soon good for you! First off, the restaurant is a super clean little space just a hair south of Belmont on Broadway. The menu is mostly salads (natch), but they have sandwiches as well. It is mostly a salad bar where you pick your base (greens) from the counter, then turn it over to have them toss in whatever you want for ingredients. Pick your dressing, then pay at the register. They also have preplanned selections like Cobb and Chef Salads and such, but those are made fresh right in front of you so you can customize those as well. Sandwiches are the usual suspects, but their pretty terrific, too. Really good ingredients, made fresh for you as well. I think the sandwiches all come with chips and a fountain soda for free if you eat there. Not a lot of tables, but most people just grab and go. Staff does not all speak great English, but if they don't understand someone else jumps in to help. They are all super sweet!

Overall: Good lunch or delivery/pickup option for a tasty healthy meal. The good: You know what you're getting, salad, wraps, sandwiches. All of them are healthy and delicious. Huge salad portions, you can build your own and pile on the veggies. Tons of things to pick from. Everything tasted fresh and I left happy. The bad: "Waiter" didn't speak great english, and the prices were pretty high for a salad. 9 bucks seems pretty steep, this isn't the loop or anything. Not a lot of seating in the store Atmosphere: 7/10 Service: 7/10 Food: 8/10

Love this place. Can't believe I discovered it only this year! You can get a humongous salad with all the veggies you please for a flat price. My salads are always fresh and delicious. I've never had anything but a salad because I come here specifically for that. Check it out!

This review is only regarding the service... I have to say that the service here is terrible. I waited over 5 minutes to be helped before I was able to order. Then after 10 minutes I finally received my wrap. For my wait, the owner then offered me a free bag of chips and when I said to her, "I get another one for free?" she said, "No! Never! You must pay!" (So basically she offered me a free bag of chips for my trouble then told me I had to pay? Ridiculous). So I paid and went to sit down to eat my food at a table and the owner said to me, "Since you're the only person in the restaurant don't sit there". If there was no one else in the whole place why wouldn't I be able to sit wherever I wanted? Overall, the service and staff are rude and disrespectful. The food here is ok (a little over priced) but why would I put up with such harsh treatment for a $7 wrap or $9 salad.

Blink, and you'll miss the storefront, but they're conveniently located near the intersection of Belmont and Broadway. I've eaten here for almost five years, and the quality of their salad ingredients is always consistently good every time I visit. The greens you can select (Romaine, Mesculum Mix, Baby Spinach or Green Leaf) are fresh and tasty. Salad House isn't your usual peas, carrots and cucumbers salad bar, though they have them if you want. If you want something more adventurous, try capers, candied pecans, heart of palms or any of the other 60+ ingredients. They also offer wraps and baked potatoes (never tried them), but the sign says SALAD. Enjoy what they do best.

I come here when I need to eat light. It's on my way home, it's a meal, and I'm satisfied. You pick what greens you want and they have a decent variety of what you'd like to add to your salad. Granted it is over $10 for a salad, but if it fills you up and it's healthy, isn't it pretty much worth it? I'd give it 5 stars if it were a tad less expensive.

Very fresh and light. The restaurant is nothing special, so I took the food to go. The dishes are reasonably priced. I had the pesto chicken wrap and my friend had the blackened chicken. I could not have been more disappointed. For one, I ordered a Cobb salad with no cheese due to a severe allergy, took one bite and am now writing this review from a hospital bed. Second, my boyfriend ordered the vegetable chili, and it was vegetable broth with some medium diced vegetables. The salads were asked to have mixed greens instead of iceberg lettuce and what do you know, iceberg lettuce. This place ignored any request and was deceiving in their menu. Also to add insult to injury, when I called to correct the issue, I was argued with immediately. There was absolutely no remorse on their part and no attempt to fix the problem. As a chef, I could not be more disappointed in a restaurant.

  • Rebekah L.

Good salad, came fast. For the price, very small. Probably won't get delivery again- $3 fee is not worth it for such a tiny salad, which costs $8.95.

    (3)
  • Elle F.

Ordered delivery, took an hour. Salad was missing the tuna I ordered and was stingy with amount of veggies. Also the lettuce was in whole leaves, not cut up. I called to ask for the tuna, and it took them another hour to deliver.

I too have walked past this "hole in the wall" restaurant many times but never stopped until recently. Upon entering, the restaurant is bright, airy and hip feeling. First, you pick from the cooler what kind of salad greens you would like. From there, you have a choice of one of the signature salads or you can create your own salads. There plenty of veggies, meats, cheeses and salad dressings to choice from. You will also receive a roll. If you dine in, your fountain drink is included. So far, I'm enjoying creating my own salads. The store front restaurant has limited seating. Best tables, if available , are the tables in front of the windows. Great place to watch the foot traffic on Broadway Street. I've noticed, a lot of people take their salads as carry out. For less than $9.00, you really get a well portion healthy meal. You will not leave hungry. I would highly recommend this gem of a restaurant.

Yelp says they open at 10am, their door says they open at 10am. Yet I arrive at 10:10am to a locked front door. The woman behind the counter continues to slowly load vegetables. She ignores me the entire time. It is a cold, cold Chicago morning, I should add. I go on waiting for 20 more minutes until a guy, presumably the manager, arrives next to me and asks if I'm standing there to wait for the bus. When I say I'm waiting to enter the freaking store, he sheepishly unlocks the door and says he'll talk to the woman, which he doesn't. When the woman begins preparing my salad, there is no apology to be heard. HORRIBLE, DISCOURTEOUS service. And make sure you arrive late enough to not get screwed by their own tardiness. Update: The extra 50 cents will only get you 3 pieces of avocado from the woman with the short hair. Even if you're the only one on line and there's only one other person eating in the place. Stingy!

Love, love, love salad house. It's my go-to place for a quick dinner in Lake View. Heads up though, always go to Salad House to order instead of ordering online, whenever possible. When you order online, you're limited to four toppings from each section, but when you go in, you can go crazy with as many toppings as you'd like for the same price. Plus, last time we ordered online for pick-up, both my and my boyfriend's orders were completely mixed up -- still delicious, but definitely not what we ordered. Oh, and if you dine in, you get a free fountain soda!

  • Lisa S.

I pretty much live here! Its my go-to spot in the neighborhood for a quick, healthy bite! The ingredients are always fresh and the service is quick. Plus they have a HUGE variety of dressings available and they just added Kale to their options of greens to choose from. I can only speak to their salads, but, I would absolutely try a sandwich or wrap from this place too!

Ok, Salad House. You must have read my review because since my last visit, the meat has improved. I don't know if it was a few week bad streak or what. I still do not think the meat is of high quality 8.95 for unlimited salad toppings is beyond reasonable.

  • Casey M.

I was looking for an old favorite... a chef's salad. The good news is that I found one at Salad House. Pros are that the portion was a good size and the delivery was fast. But I wish the ingredients were presented a bit differently. A chef's salad should have turkey, ham, swiss cheese and american cheese and hardboiled eggs. All were there, but the meat was cubed and the cheese was in very thin matchstick shapes. It would have been better if these were all in a similar size. I did like that they added fresh carrots.

I basically come here ALL the time - a couple times per week even! The salads are soo good and healthy! You first go in and pick which leaves you want (baby spinach, romain lettuce, etc). Then, you get to pick your toppings and the lady mixes all your toppings together for you. Very fresh! You can pick as many toppings as you like and you get a big portion! You will definitely feel full! I always get the avocado dill dressing on top and it is absolutely phenomenal. I will mostly likely stop by and get one today. I heart this place.

Good salad, came fast. For the price, very small. Probably won't get delivery again- $3 fee is not worth it for such a tiny salad, which costs $8.95.

Stingy!

I had the blackened chicken wrap. It was so good and a huge portion. I couldn't even finish it. It came with a side of chipotle ranch dip which was delicious. I ate in so they gave me free chips and a soda. Both women behind the counter were very nice. I told them I liked the dip and they gave me another one to take home.

Just tried Salad House for the first time via delivery. Huge portions, fresh ingredients, great seasonings. Delivery took just under an hour, which is longer than I was thinking it would be since I live only a few blocks away but not a deal breaker. Little pricey but I'll be back for sure.

NOTHING makes me more upset than paying for chicken and getting "chicken" in return. I don't understand how restaurants can put "grilled chicken" on their menu when the chicken that you're actually served is that scary processed stuff that is filled with holes and fake grill marks. Is it really that hard to grill a REAL chicken breast?? We waited over an hour for our two salads to be delivered (which was estimated over the phone as a 15-minute delivery time), paid $26, and immediately threw both in the trash.

I've walked past it many times and, craving a salad, I decided to try this place out. I was surprised at how spacious it is inside because it looks cramped when passing by. I ordered the Signature Cobb Salad and it was just as good as I'd hoped. I watched her spoon the avocado from the rind in front of me and toss the concoction in dressing. Next time, i plan to invent my own salad from the numerous choices of add-ons including artichoke and steamed beets! Overall, yummy and filling for under $10.

salad house is amazing. my fiance and i order from here ALL the time. i've never gotten anything from them that was even remotely NOT fresh and delicious. they have amazing portion sizes and awesome options, and the build-your-own salad and baked potato features are fantastic. this is literally my favorite place on grubhub and if i didn't feel like a total freak of nature for never cooking for myself i would order from here every single day. prices are reasonable, delivery always arrives in a reasonable amount of time and warm food is always still warm. thanks salad people!

Late night stop in. Ordered a BLT. Asked to add avocado. Annoyed that the lady didn't understand my request. She appeared to, then I got home sans avocado. :( I was happy to see this place isn't strictly veggie options. I may give it another try.

I got a free sandwich offer from Belly so I decided to stop in. I wouldn't come back unless it was for more free stuff. The service was terrible. There were no other customers yet they ignored me for a good five minutes. I finally got my sandwich and it was very blah. I mean, I know it was free, but I thought the idea is that lure people in with an amazing product so that they'll come back. Well, I'm not going back.

Easily one of my favorite places to eat in Chicago. Luckily, I live right down the street! You can get a mean helping of a delicious (and fresh!) salad for around $9.00. Plus, you get a free roll and if you dine-in your fountain soda is free (SAY WHAT?!?!). You can add any of their crazy good ingredients to your salad-- and if you want more of something, they will gladly give you it. I've ordered online for delivery when I was sick and have made countless trips to the establishment and I have never ever been disappointed. With a ton of choices for ingredients and dressings you can be sure you will be able to create a perfect, big, filling, and healthy salad!

Great place to get a healthy meal on the cheap. You pick up a tray with the basic salad if your choice (romaine, spinach, greens, etc.) and hand it to the employee. They then add each and every topping of your choosing at no additional cost (yes, that includes shrimp!). He/she takes them and tosses them all together with your dressing choice mixed in or on the side, quick, healthy, and nutritious. The ingredients were all fresh and delicious.

Went here yesterday for lunch. My salad was good, not great - but way better and beter for me than anything else I would have had for lunch nearby. Yummy! Great place if you're craving a fresh, healthy lunch or dinner. I've only had the salads so that's what I'm writing this review about. Not sure how the sandwiches are but they sound good. This place is as good as you make it because the whole thing is up to you. You pick the lettuce (spinach, romaine, spring mix, etc) and they throw whatever you want on top. They'll pretty much give you whatever you ask for on your salad for no extra charge. All their toppings from avocado to hard boiled egg to cucumbers are fresh and delicious with the exception of some of their chicken which looks slightly questionable. I've had the albacore tuna on top a few times which adds a nice diverse texture/flavor to the rest of the meal. Salad House has a large assortment if different dressings to choose from as well. Never had one I didn't like here! my two favorites are traditional Balsamic and their deliciously creative Avocado Dill. They also give you bread and butter with your salad but I can never finish the salad itself, let alone think about a roll on the side! It's a hearty meal that won't leave you in a food coma when you're finished.

From the creative dressings (my favorite is the avocado dill), to the unbelievable variety of fresh ingredients, this Lakeview gem has become my favorite healthy restaurant in the city. I highly recommend Salad House because of the value, the delicious salads and the warm service I've received. The paninis sound great but I can't seem to stop ordering the salads!

Veggies are super fresh and tasty! Southwestern wrap had curried chicken black beans and avocado. All dressings come on side. Hidden jem! It's nice to go to a lunch place and feel good about the freshness and quality of the food. People there are super friendly. Everything was very clean. Great value, make your own salad for one flat price. Packed wrap with tasty goodies for $6.25!

So, I ordered from this place via Grubhub. I had not heard a lot about it other than my boyfriend visiting once a week. After waiting a ridiculously long time for our order to arrive, we were finally eating about an hour and a half later. Apart from being slightly annoyed with the long wait (Im really easygoing), I LOVED my salad. I guess the best way to describe it would be to say that they made it the way I would have made it for myself. I will definitely be ordering from them again in the near future. I just hope that the next time, I will be able to eat within a reasonable amount of time.

Under $10 for a huge, made- to- order salad. Any toppings for $8.95 plus one cheese and one protein. I love that the hard boiled egg is sliced on the spot as is the fruit and avocado.

I got suckered into going here because some friends were going, and I have to say it, Salad House is not the best idea, and it's also not very well executed. I can't really critique any menu items, as I chose to have a salad and I was expected to combine all the ingredients I wanted to. The singular items however, are great in variety, but sometimes poor in quality. Some produce looked like it had been sitting around awhile, some looked like it had been cut way too largely. And frankly, for being such a health-forward type establishment, I was very surprised to see a low number of healthy vegetarian protein options being offered. No seitan offered, but not even any quinoa either. They offered tofu, which as you may know, is pretty bland. The tofu was not advertised as being marinated or flavored in any way, and was cut in large chunks which didn't look very appetizing. I was excited to see that "avocado dill" was one of the offered dressing. It sounded delicious, but totally under-delivered. I didn't taste any avocado, nor did I taste any dill in my salad. On a more positive note, the value is pretty good. For $8.75 you can get a pretty large salad with all the ingredients you want (within a selection, and as served to you), and you can even get a side of bread with it. Unfortunately, that's not enough to make me come back to Salad House.

Disappointment at its finest. I was pretty excited to try out a build your own sandwich until I got home and it was a sandwich I definitely didn't build. They gave me a sheet to check off each part I wanted: bread, cheese, mayo and main topping; I chose chipata bread, roasted red pepper mayo, provolone cheese and hummus with verges as the topping. I guess I should've paid more attention to what they were putting on the sandwich or the fact that she barely glanced at the paper I filled out because when I got home it was entirely different. I got home super excited to try it only to uncover that the only thing they got right was the bread. I had a plain turkey, American chesse, lettuce, tomato and onion sandwich with no mayo or dressing whatsoever. Plus it wasn't even that tasty, It was upsetting to say the least.

I never take the time to review, and i REALLY never complain, but this had to be the worst customer service i have EVER experienced. I noted their "made to order" sign, so I ordered the grilled chicken on a panini. Turns out they do not put chicken on their panini's. So, I had to order a chicken wrap without the wrap AND a cheese panini to get a chicken panini. To their credit, when I checked out, they only charged me for the panini. However, when I brought the panini home, my daughter refused to eat it, because she didn't like the way it smelled.

I dropped a star because the ladies don't always seem the friendliest (kinda like always). But the vegetarian chili here is do amazing!!!! I don't care about their attitudes. And @ $2/bowl it's a steal. The salads will run you more like $10, but it's a whole lotta salad. I love the convenience & it's one of the healthier choices I can make. So I'll keep coming back.

I am officially a fan of this place. I've been here twice now. I usually go to subway but for the same price you can get a delicious healthier sandwich with chips and drink(free if you dine in) I got the veggies and hummus sandwich on 8 grain bread. Bread is toasted in the panini maker, the veggies are cooked, they include wide thin-sliced carrots, zucchini, eggplant, onions, peppers. and the chipotle mayo is a nice touch. Also they have killer salads. They are a bit pricey, but hell you get to put whatever you want on them, soooo many choices of toppings. chips are the veggie straws or kettle style, both of which i am fond of. Only reason i didn't give it 5 starts was bc my co-worker threw up her southwest wrap an hour after she ate it. Don't know if it was the chicken, but something wasn't settling with her. But i will still eat here, being veggie i don't have to worry about throwing up bad meat ;)

Wow!! can I just say this was an incredible first experience here. I have lived in lakeview for 3 years now, and have walked by this place dozens of times, but never stopped in. Tonight I was feeling like something light and healthy for dinner and decided to check this place out. First of all the employee who helped me was so friendly and made some very good suggestions. This is basically a build your own salad place, but they do have paninis and different types of sandwiches on the menu, like wraps. I opted to try the salad out. You first get to pick what types of greens you want, then they have an entire choice of all kinds of vegetables, meats, cheeses, dressings...the works!!!! The dressing was incredible as well, I had an avocado dill dressing.....delicious! This is definitely going to be one of my summer time hang outs!!!

Expensive salads but convenient healthy food if you are in a hurry. Which is often hard to find.

I just got a salad delivered from here and after taking a look at the rubbery chicken and tasting the gross dressing I hope I don't get food poisoning from the couple of bites I took. Waste of money.

I love this place! So fast, so fresh, endless salad possibilities. The salads are huge and, the dressing are delicious (avocado dill - YUM!), and all for $9. Great for a quick, healthy take-out or delivery dinner.

I've been to this place three times. First time was great. Second time had a long line. Third time I found a bug in my salad. NEVER going back!

I never take the time to review, and i REALLY never complain, but this had to be the worst customer service i have EVER experienced. The delivery person got my address confused, called me three times (and hung up on me), then when I called the store to ask what was going on I was yelled at. ANNOYED and not impressed.

Late night stop in. Ordered a BLT. Asked to add avocado. Annoyed that the lady didn't understand my request. She appeared to, then I got home sans avocado. :( I was happy to see this place isn't strictly veggie options. I may give it another try.

However, when I brought the panini home, my daughter refused to eat it, because she didn't like the way it smelled.

salad house is amazing. my fiance and i order from here ALL the time. i've never gotten anything from them that was even remotely NOT fresh and delicious. they have amazing portion sizes and awesome options, and the build-your-own salad and baked potato features are fantastic. this is literally my favorite place on grubhub and if i didn't feel like a total freak of nature for never cooking for myself i would order from here every single day. prices are reasonable, delivery always arrives in a reasonable amount of time and warm food is always still warm. thanks salad people!

This place is awesome. No limit to vegetable toppings, free avocado, free soft drinks. What more can you ask for. Everything is really fresh too. It's like Pluto's in Northern California if you are familiar with that, but way better.
