For those barely time to empty your bladder days of work Pret A Manger is probably the best bet for a quick bite in the Merch Mart. They've got lots of grab and go options that are fairly fresh and ready to eat as quickly as you can unwrap them. Not the cheapest by any means, but if you're tank is empty and you need something in your stomach this global chain isn't a bad choice. They could maybe staff a few more people during the lunch rush, but overall they put out a pretty good product.

I love Pret! My wife and I came on a Saturday for lunch. We were a bit early, but we had the entire restaurant to ourselves. The food is so fresh and (excluding their salads) pretty affordable. Recommended: * tomato and feta soup * California club sandwich I don't live in Chicago so I can't patron them as much as I want to, but I really recommend them. :)

I have gone to several Pret a Mangers, both in the US and abroad, and have never been impressed with their food or service, especially at the price point they offer. I have been seeing more and more of them in Chicago, and with all the other dining options available in this city, I would never choose Pret. The sandwiches are okay, as are the breakfast pastries, but I would much prefer a soup/sandwich combo from a Panera, or even a breakfast sandwich from McDonald's if I'm going to have a cheat meal and eat out.

I appreciate Pret's attitude toward healthy, natural food and I understand the price point that entails, but they really, really need to put more stuff into their sandwiches. I like their ingredients and combinations but these are some of the skimpiest sandwiches I've ever seen. I had a tuna salad baguette one time and it was like the tuna salad had been spread onto the bread like butter--there was almost no meat! (And I'm not a big meat eater). Give me an adult-sized sandwich and I'll gladly pay extra.

The best place in the Mart to pick up good food and fast. Also, the young woman who rang me up today gave me a joking hard time about ordering a cookie and it brought some much needed levity to my awful day. thank you!

I can't help but notice a lot of reviews are about Pret in general and not this location...I have to give the employees and managers at this location a huge thumbs up! They're courteous, quick, and friendly.

I was amongst the looong line of lucky ones last week waiting to get a free sampling of Pret A Manger on its grand opening day. I happened to be in the Mart for other reasons, but I jumped on the free lunch bandwagon - why not! Happy employees were telling those in the line about their new location, fresh food, daily soup offerings, etc. I left with a lunch bag containing: chicken & avocado sandwich, bag of popcorn, brownie, "yoga bunny" sparkling grape juice. The sandwich was very fresh tasting and was heavy on the avocado. Yummy. If I frequented the Mart, I'd keep this on my list of places for a quick (non-fast food feeling) lunch for sure.

The nicest people work here! I always see the manager around and he seems like a cool dude too. They're always happy to answer questions, especially on new items as they seem to have new menu items every other week. The only bummer is they got rid of the cold black tea :( But that new salad they have with turkey, bacon, tomatoes, avocado, and I'm pretty sure crack is SO GOOD. Don't forget the free bread roll with butter, that's key. It's $2-$3 more than I would like to spend on lunch, but I'm always happy with what I get.

I love their chocolate chunk cookie. Yeah, one probably doesn't immediately think dessert at a place like this. I do. This has become my new go-to-late-lunch-pick-up places lately. It also gets me to walk past the Hubbard Street bubble during lunchtime. Besides the cookie, I do like the half -size baguette sandwiches like the chicken, mozzarella, and arugula, or the pesto. I don't always finish a full size one, so the half ones are perfect for me. Because I tend to go around the 1:15-ish lunch time, I haven't experienced any slow service or long lines. My favorites aren't always available during that time. Ah, well. I'm just glad for the excuse to go someplace else for lunch at the Mart.

Never heard of this place until I received a coupon for a free lunch and coffee. The lobster salad was delicious and healthy. The coffee is organic and the staff was very friendly and polite. Best of all, they donate all of their remaining food to the hungry every night which is just amazing. Will definitely be returning and looking forward to trying their soup next time. Two thumbs up.

Oatmeal in the morning and a Chicken & Bacon sandwich later - the best! Everyone there is super nice.

These people are a group of angels led by an emperor of kindness, Richard. The closest you'll find to heaven on earth.

One of my favorite places to eat! Their sandwiches are made fresh, not frugal with ingredients (no empty spot on the bread), and delicious! Definitely beats Panera.

The quality of food and drink are top notch and what you can expect from Pret. Everything is pre-packaged so you can just grab whatever sandwiches, baguettes, hot wraps, etc. that you want and pay at the counter. The only wait will be the line (if there is one) or if you order a latte or similar coffee beverage. The service is great too. I had gone in and asked for the Gingersnap Latte. The manager mentioned how they hadn't gotten the shipment for the syrup yet. The next day I ordered it and he remembered me and gave a complimentary beverage upgrade. It was so nice. The eat-in space is gorgeous with plentiful seating and a beautiful back area with window seating that overlooks the river.

The Brie and Tomato baguette sandwich thing I had today was like eating in a French deli. Well, more like eating a sandwich while listening to an ebayed copy of French 2 from Rosetta Stone. The food was great and it serves as a perfect alternative to the guilt of saying you ate at McDonalds on a Friday afternoon. The sustainable factor made me want to check in and broadcast where I was on Twitter. The restaurant could take a cue from the fast food joints and provide a $1 menu. Maybe 50c worth of Arugula served with a side crostini or something.

o Brand spanking new Pret in the Mart. A nice alternative to the food court, Dunks, ABP, Protein Bar ("if I eat any more quinoa I am going to develop body odor..."). o Had oatmeal which was takeaway ready, tasted steel cut, fresh, very good. o Flaky, warm, buttery croissant that beats the hell out of anything else nearby. o Coffee is fresh hot and bold. o Big store with room to sit if you like, pristine cleanliness and very notable friendliness of the service. Again a contrast to some other businesses in the Mart. o I have loved Pret since I first had it in London in the late '90s. Two tongues up!
