The food is not good but not horrible. I been here for times so far and not once have they gotten my order right. There is always something made wrong or missing. The staff the make you feel very welcome and almost as if it is suppose to be a privilege they are making your food. Very arrogant every visit. The prices are high end for a fast food so beware.

Gyros, Greek Salads, and Rotisserie Chicken! That's what I usually get... CLEAN and great customer service.

Years and years ago I would drive all the way to Plush Pup's for a solidly good hot dog or a fairly good Italian beef sandwich. What happened? Years later, their prices have soared while the quality of the food went down. Maybe it is under new management. We drove by here last week, so we decided to grab a bite since we were in a hurry to get somewhere. I admit that the charbroil burger is still 4-star worthy. I love the flavor of the charbroil taste, and the burger was cooked to perfection. The quality of the meat was different from what I remember years ago, but it wasn't horrible. On the other hand, the quality of the Italian Beef meat was disappointing and way too salty. It was 2-star worthy (if that--maybe I am being generous rating it with 2-stars). My husband had the beef sandwich and he gave me some of the meat since it was loaded with tons of meat. I took one little bit of the meat and couldn't eat the rest of the meat that he so generously shared with me. I am not sure that I would stop off here again. The quality seemed to be lacking in some of the food items that we ordered. However, I would recommend their charbroil burger and freshly cut french fries. I am not usually a french fries fan, but my husband ordered some and insisted I try them. He was right -- they are really, really good fries. I hate to say this but the fries were much better than the Italian beef. The restaurant is located in a very small strip mall. Parking can be a little challenging since it is a small parking lot. They have a few tables with umbrellas outside, but with the restaurant being located on a busy street, you don't want to sit outside and ingest the truck, bus and car fumes with your meal. Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives -- this is definitely a diner and it has not changed since the last time we were here. The service is fast and hospitable. The restaurant vibe reminds me of something out of the 1970's. There are a lot of old-fashioned Coca-Cola fixtures throughout the restaurant. There were people of all ages here and it is definitely a family-friendly restaurant.

Stopped in here to eat something before a client meeting and was blown away! My grilled chicken on a pita hit the spot and the Greek salad could have been served in Greek town. Very clean and casual, it looks like the name of the game here is great food served in a 50's style diner atmosphere at very good prices. The outdoor patio looks like a comfortable area for warm weather dining. Somebody sitting near me was enjoying the barbecued ribs which looked and smelled incredible...I'll be back for the ribs, and a Vanilla Milk Shake! Well, I finally picked up some ribs to go and oh yea!!! These baby back ribs were both meaty and tender and the sauce was phenomenal. The cole slaw and garlic bread were a perfect compliment. Nicely done Plush Pup!

I got the chicken kabob dinner. The chicken was overlooked and very dry. As it was cooking, the three cooks were staring at a younger girl outside and making comments about her. It was very oblivious and awkward for me as I waited for my food. The guy rang up my meal incorrectly and looked at me as if it was my fault. Defiantly a 'Soup Nazi' style place. Won't be back.

In the mood for gyros? This is for you. I ordered just a standard gyro without fries and had plenty of food to be quite full instead of the normal food coma I get when I eat the fries too :D. The staff were nice, and the restaurant also offers ribs and Italian beef subs. I'll have to come back and try those, as well.

Before I gave this place a chance, it appeared to be like most fast food joints, with lots of fried food options...I was wrong! My favorite is the Chicken Kabob plate! They serve two chicken skewers with a pita and rice pilaf. When in the mood for something lighter, I get their Greek Salad with grilled chicken...it's super fresh and their Greek vinaigrette/marinate is fantastic! Their BBQ chicken is awesome too... They're super fast and very friendly!...even when I've called two minutes before closing (unaware of their closing time, of course!) to place a carry-out order. They already know me by name...what can I say? It's like my second kitchen...

Use to order from here when I worked next door years ago. Stopped by a couple months ago on my way down to the city and my chicken didn't seem to be like it was. It maybe that it seem like it had been sitting there for a long time. If your in the area its worth stopping by. And maybe the day I went was just a bad day for them. Prices are really good.

Had the pork kabobs. They were excellent. In area for vball and stopped here. Was clean and food was good. Would have given it 5 but the silver ware is as cheap as it gets

I have found a lot of menu items at Plush Pup to be either hit or miss. It's nothing fancy, nothing special, and nothing great. In a pinch, or for a quick bite, it definitely serves its purpose. ((Matt M. said it best below "It's like Portillo's, only lower quality.")) That's exactly it. Plush Pup serves similar menu items...they just aren't as good. The prices are similar to that of Portillo's. So yes, be prepared to spend almost ten bucks on a loaded dog, fries, and a drink. Here's the good, the bad, and the ugly... + Huge variety of menu options + Love the 1/2 chicken plates - Greek, BBQ or plain + Fast and friendly service + Tamales!! + Cute retro decor. - Avoid the noon rush. Or be prepared to wait in line...most likely out the door. - Pass on the zucchini sticks - the breading falls off. Every. Single. Time. ((annoying)) - The salads blow. It's literally a plate of lettuce with a few odds and ends on top If there were a Portillo's around the corner, you bet your ass I would be going there instead. But when the grease craving hits, Plush Pup is around the corner from the office and definitely fills the greasy, fatty food void.

Two gyro combos for around $22 dollars? Ridiculously overpriced for sub-par food. Onion rings were a disappointment. I guess it is a tiny step up above McDonald's, but I would honestly take McD's over this. One extra star for cleanliness. There's a guy who's constantly walking around wiping tables down and bringing used trays to the back.

I've been here twice, both while on business trips to Chicago and staying at the Renaissance Hotel just down the street. There's not a whole lot in the area, so if you want a quick lunch this is one of your only options. The first time, I had the Italian beef, which was really tasty and came with spicy peppers. Like all greatest Italian roast beef sandwiches, and totally fell apart, but that's kind of the point. If this were my only experience, I would give this place a better rating. The second time, however, I tried one of the Chicago hot dogs and was totally underwhelmed. To give you some background, I love Chicago style hot dogs, particularly the sport peppers and pickle on top. This one, however I found to be mediocre at best. It just wasn't that flavorful and I'm not even sure they put sport peppers on top. I would give the place another chance but I wouldn't get hot dog again. Maybe back to the Italian beef or gyro...

I used to come here a lot back in the 90's with my high school buddies, and it has changed a lot since then. A while back I was with one of my old high-school friends and for old-times sake, we decided to vist a place of our youth. The Plush Pup has gone down-hill over time. When we first walked in the owner had this attitude, like we just ruined his day, by going into his restaurant and buy his food, with our money. He never smilied, he just scowled. The hot dogs, were small, and unfilling, and our sodas were jam packed with ice, with hardly any soda in there at all. Its sad to see a once great place go the pits, all because of some arragont greedy owner.

I had the salad and added Gyro meat both times. The order comes with a side of Pita bread. The Pita bread is tasty. Here on the west coast our Pita bread comes from a bag and there aren't many places that make their own Pita bread; so I don't know if it's handmade at another location and then brought in, but it doesn't taste like its from a bag. Kudos on great Pita bread! The salad's are fresh, everything is fresh, no wilted lettuce or funky tomatoes. Finally, the Feta cheese. Again, the kind of Feta cheese we get on the west coast is grocery level, and has that funky feta after taste we're all used to. Not at Plush Pup. The Feta cheese is firm. It is slightly salty. And it doesn't have that "grocery store feta cheese" taste, this is what fresh Feta tastes like. I wish I could take some home or learn how to make it on my own. Oh, and it doesn't taste like it is made with goat's milk which may explain why there isn't a funky after taste. Anyhoo, I could've gone here everyday for lunch. My associates had the Gyro sandwich and the Chicken with rice. Everyone had only good things to say about the food. I also so other people order the hot dogs and wish I could've had time to try one, but my mind was on the salad, the pita and feta. The staff are courteous and professional. The establishment is clean.

Its like Portillos only lower quality. Maybe over time I have just neglected to get all the "speciality" dishes here, but the hot dogs, hamburgers, and chicken I can assure you are lower quality. I don't know where the "cheap" part people are talking up is coming from. Even portillo's, Al's Beef, and comparable chains are much cheaper with larger, fresher portions.

The char-broiled burgers at Plush Pup are delicious. If U order a cheeseburger U get a choice of cheese including Swiss and cheddar, not just American. And get the works for a truly great burger. Also a great variety of other food items on their menu and their fries are also terrific. Truly a great independent fast food option superior to the corporate franchises.

  • Carla G.

Plush Pup is great for a quick lunch or pick up. The parking lot is small and gets very crowded during the lunch hour. The menu offers hotdogs, burgers, gyros, fries, mozzarella sticks, salads, chicken, etc... The prices (like many others have noted) are a tad high for the average Vienna hotdog, fries, and drink combo- probably by a buck or two but still.. There is also a small patio which is nice for summer.

  • Grace N.

I grew up next to this Plush Pup 25 years ago when it was a tiny dive with fantastic Chicago-style hot dogs (who ever thought of putting celery salt on a hot dog?!), and it is still cranking out some TASTY diner food - try the chicken wings, they're crispy, plump, and juicy and I could eat then by the bucket. Disregard the staff who tend to stare at you when you order, and even after you sit down, any establishment that's been around for 20+ years knows how to make some tasty food.

  • Desiree Anne A.

Plush Pup is a little pricey for simple, traditional american food, but everything I had was good. Chicken Philly was huge and a mouth full. It came with a small order of fries. Also tried the fish sandwich. It was very neatly put together and overall good. This place a convient stop to grab a bite before going on a flight at O'hare airport. Its a quick exit there and a fast jump back on to the highway.

I've 'Been coming here since they opened and go there almost after every workout, and even before that when they used to be in Park Ridge. And no, it's NOT Portillo's, and I'm glad it's not because Plush Pups Greek Salad with a Chicken Breast on top is AWESOME and far better than the chicken cesare from Portillos! Plus, they have their own Home made dressing for the Greek Salad and they serve the BEST FETA you can buy as well as real greek olives! FAR BETTER THAN ANY SALAD FROM PORTILLOS - now that I made that point again for the 2nd time........They also serve many baked chicken dishes or Chicken Kabobs with rice, Pitas and vegetable sides - a much better tasting selection and healthier than Portillo's. As far as their hot dogs, Gyro's, and Beef - I don't eat that stuff anymore, but when I did, they were ALL excellent!! Good job Plush Pup!!! Don't be worried by the moronic negative comments made by those who only think Portillos is king - remember, these are the same people who like the Olive Garden and Pizza Hut.................................

The previous reviews commenting on the pricing are dead on. Over $6 for a hot dog, fry, medium drink combo is a tad high. Everything was really good and the staff was friendly. They have a huge menu and I will be back in the future.

I used to live in the neighborhood and loved the food. Now, 23 years later, the food is just as good with friendly staff, varied menu, and clean decor. Close to O'Hare so it's a great place to grab your first hot dog or Italian beef while visiting.....or your last on the way back to the airport. Since I live in AZ I miss this type of restaurant and love to see that this place has been going strong for more than 30 years..

First time here and I ordered what seems to be their signature dish, the Pork Kabob Sandwich. It's basically a Gyros but with marinated Pork instead of the processed meat on a rotisserie. It was a good departure from the usual burgers and dogs but I won't be going out of my way for it. I would order it again though, just won't be my first choice. The pita and sauce were good, the tomatoes and onions were fresh, the pork was tender but not juicy. Compared to Gyros it's relative bland. It lacks the punch of pepper and garlic. I would have liked it to be more flavorful. The atmosphere is great for a fast food lunch. Nice decor and clean. I will definitely return to try other dishes.

The food (Gyros) is good but it's a lot. They should have the option for us to choose such as large, medium and small or large and medium.

I find it hard to believe that I have worked literally down the block from this place for nearly two years and I have never been here for lunch. For what it is, short order, you should really expect a good, tasty well-prepared meal. Everyone one here is on the pleasant side and they get you your food quick. It was everything I expected and my belly was thoroughly satisfied when I was done eating.

I have lived in this neighborhood for years now. And I just started getting into the Yelp game so here is my review on my most recent of visits. I came here after work one day and it was just about dinner time. When you come in you stand in a line you see the giant menu they have. A guy comes up to you and asks what you want. I order the ribs to go just because I was starving. I move down the line and hit the register. The manager i assume takes the payment and I wait. The dining area of it is pretty nice and well kept. During the summer they have a decent patio on the side of the building.

I wish I can give this place ZERO stars. The food is overpriced, and below average. The owner is extremely rude, and always seems like we are doing him a favor by walking in there. We actually walked in as he talked down to his employees.. very uncomfortable. Never again!

Here in Chicagoland we have tons of these Vienna joints on every corner. They all serve pretty much the same thing on the menu but they all can be radically different for whatever reason. Plush Pup is one of the better ones. Big menu here and everything is good. Great hot dogs made how they should be and really good fries. Large seating area if you want to stay or they will wrap it to go if you'd rather.

    (4)
  • Matt S.

Classic 50's diner feel: checkered floor, vinyl seating, posters of glass Coke bottles, etc. This is a gyros place so there is a ton on the menu to choose from besides burgers and fries. Some items include hot dogs, sandwiches, ribs, fried appetizer items, and various entree plates. Service is pretty quick, even when it gets busy. You line up along the kitchen if it's busy and someone goes down the line and takes everyone's order. Pretty nice since by the time you get to the register to pay, your food is basically done. Food is good and prices are totally reasonable. Outdoor seating is available when it's nice outside.

I just paid $12.82 for 3 items! I didn't bother to look up at the menu because most places are about 3-5 bucks for a double cheeseburger. Theirs is 6.49! Small fry is 2.25 and a "Jumbo" drink is 2.99?? I knew I should have went to McDonald's for a large drink for 1.00. I will never come to this place again. Goody's on Belmont right by me isn't this expensive!

Unpretentious place with standard fare: Gyros, Bbq ribs, onion rings, half greek chicken, etc - and you dont get overcharged, either, which is a welcome change. Ive got no major complaints: On the cheddar beef i ordered, the lazy employee put nacho cheese sauce instead of a real cheese slice... not too big a deal, but if you wanted an extra 25 cents for a cheese slice, i would have paid it. Will probably return amd would recommend.

I had not been here in at least a year due to a salty burger. Oh come on. Give them another chance. Or not! I could not get past the prices! Seemed to me that I could almost go to a sit down restaurant for the prices. Not knocking the food. I wanted a char dog. When I got there I saw gyros sandwich. Yummm. Then I saw $8.99. For sandwich only. I got the dog. It was tasty. It is nice that they have outside seating for the summer.

Its usually a good thing when the owner is present in a business. However, after a couple of years of eating here I have determined this owner is a stroke. He never smiles, he looks miserable, as a customer you feel that you personally ruined his day or inconvenienced him in some way just by stopping in to order food. The place is usually busy around lunch, the food is ok. I like the grilled chicken with greek dressing and the greek salad with house dressing. I wanted to tip his staff once when he was not there and they told me they are not allowed to take tips. I was shocked, the employees are the only people making you feel appreciated, the owner is a prick. Eat somewhere else.

11 dollars for double cheese burger, fries and small drink? Give me a fuc#king break. Burgers are good, fries have no salt on them and drinks are small. For $11 I could've gotten double cheeseburger combo and gyro combo at Jeff's Red Hots. And that's with better fries and bigger drinks. This is the last time you gonna get my money homeboy.

I give the Plush Pup hot dog 4.25 out of 5 stars - but I was disappointed with the Italian Beef. Nice, clean, 50's dinerish decor. The Plush Pup hotdog is the typical Chicago hotdog: Vienna Beef frank, topped with a pickle spear, hot sport peppers, neon green relish, mustard, & tomato. It was very good, I'd go back for more. It was a great value for $2.35. If you are from out of town and at O'Hare Airport or one of the nearby hotels - this is a great option to try a Chicago hotdog. But I wouldn't recommend anything else. I was disappointed with the Italian Beef sandwich. The beef itself was very dry and flavorless. It should be melt in your mouth and spicy. It was as if they took 3 day old roast beef, and soaked it in water to bring it back to life. I didn't finish it. They have a more extensive menu than I'd think - gyros, BBQ, even Reuben sandwiches. But I don't think I'd go back except to get another hot dog. I could see how other reviewers would rate this place higher - but in my opinion the food just doesn't seem consistent enough to rate higher. Although the Plush Dog was excellent, in my opinion, a place has to be more than a one trick pony to get 4 stars.

Cheap Eats on lunch...hell yeah!!! I ordered hot dog and fries. Fries tasty...hot dog cold! I was a bit disappointed because I had been here before and the food was very good. Maybe they were having an off day! I am sure I would give them another chance.

Winter in Chicago can make you fat, and Plush Pub can be a contributing factor. Read on. Unfortunately, I work near O'Hare...and in the building I work in, there is only one little deli to go to for food. This is why you make friends with co-workers who have cars. On a particularly cold winter morning (really, no different from any other morning when it comes to this city), my "friend" (just kidding...I really adore her to death) and I had had it with the day...and it was only 12pm! So yes, back to my original line...winter in this city will make you fat. What do you want when it's cold and you're upset over life in general? Fatty food! And Plush Pub delivers! Apparently, our VP of General Counsel likes this place. I ordered the bacon cheeseburger and fries to go. What's weird about this place is you can't pay for your food until they have it cooked for you. Not quite sure why....yes, they take cash and card ($5 minimum). Wait was longer than usual I was told...15 minutes for our orders to be ready. Back in the dingy fluorescent light of my friend's office, I bit into the burger. Wow, my burger was pretty good. Fries were tasty too. There's not much to say but this tasted like a good old American Cheeseburger with just the right amount of grease. I had mozzarella sticks too...they were good...breaded so it tasted better than just normal grease sticks. So yes, for under $10...I was satisfied, and I felt like I gained 10 lbs. Yum.

Had the taste for a dog and thought we would give this place a try as we passed by. I'm glad I took the time to turn around. Nice staff, good dogs, looking forward to stopping in one day to try the ribs. They looked good.

They have a great Greek chicken dish which was yummy and felt light. The restaurant has a fast food/diner feel and make sure you allocate enough time to stand in a long line during the lunch line. Prices are excellent.

  • Mike E.

It's good for avoiding room service at a nearby hotel, they offer quick food and some variety, mostly Mediterranean. Tried the hot dog with chili and cheese and pork kebob sandwich. The cheese was processed which was disappointing, the chili was good. The unfortunate thing was that the clerk behind the counter must've thought I asked for an onion sandwich and not no onions. They couldn't have possibly gotten more onions on the pork sandwich if they tried.

Ok, I get my fix here while visiting my Mom who lives nearby. Burgers are decent, dogs are ok, and I can walk here to escape from geriatric condo hell. Some trivia. The original plush pub used to be located a few miles from here in Park Ridge. We used to hit it for lunch once a week or so while attending Maine South.

I got dragged here by somebody who used to work in the area and eat lunch here. It's a totally no-frills plastic-cafeteria-chairs kind of joint which is OK once in a while. Good things: I like hot dogs, though I'm not really ready to have one with cucumbers on it, but they did leave those off for me. Char-grilling a dog is a nice idea. The fries are good and service was pretty quick - if something takes longer they bring it to your table. Meh things: The hot dogs are kind of small/ thin and drown in their buns and toppings. If you really want to eat a Hot Dog I suppose you have to order the larger Polish Dogs. My food was served so hot that I literally was still having a problem eating the fried mushrooms 15 minutes later. Not real fun to have to wait a significant time for food to cool so you can eat when you're hungry and on a tight schedule. The place is kind of grubby and hard to eat in if you're wearing nice work clothes rather than a pair of old ripped jeans. Finally, there's simply too dern much stuff on the menu. Does anybody really want to eat a "Philly cheese steak" in Chicago? I suppose someone does, but not me. Seriously, places like this are better when they stick to doing a few things really well and not trying to do everything just OK.

  • Andy M.

Great food if you like this type of establishment. I was in the area visiting an ex and decided to see this place for once. It reallynis just an average hot dog stand, but the Greek chicken is perhaps the best I have ever tasted at any place in a real long time. They are cheap with dishing out the ketchup after I asked for the fries and had to go towards the window where they have the pump for sit down. Just give more than one ketchup package next time and this is enough to drop the rating one star.

  • Jay B.

This place has some pretty cheap food and its right by where I work. I got the hot dog's and wondered why they were so inexpensive (I think like only $1.85), well they were small and not all that great. The fries weren't good either. Also the decor and experience wasn't all that great either. Overall I would probably not go back, but if I did I wouldn't get a hot dog. This area really needs some better eats.

A barker! I know people love the Plush Pup. The dogs are just ok, but the burger (slimy and mealy) tastes like horsemeat. Crowded, slow, and expensive for what you get. So disappointing that when I see it, I drive past and go somewhere else.

This place rocks , but the prices are wayy to high for such quality food , I mean its fast food , people who work in the buildings and surrounding area should have the leisure to go there every day , but their prices are very discouraging. Great food , ok service , but prices earn this place a 3.

This is a great little quick food place. It's my kids favorite for a hamburger, dog, or chicken tenders. The menu is basic, the service is fast and friendly, and the price perfect. Order at the counter, they prepare and tray your food, then find a table. It's our go-to place when we're in the area.

This is a great place for Chicago Diner style food - lunch or dinner. The Gyros meal is a tasty and great value for $9 The Chicken Gyros is also a great tasting pita dish and I have never been disappointed. If you like to spice things up, add the side of hot sauce on fries or your sandwich. Lunch is crowded as the office crowd in the cumberland / I90 area come over + the locals (some of which are a older crowd). The staff always try to have a smile on their face and you do get a feel of a bustle when it is crowded (as you should). Worth a try if you are in the neighborhood.

Been driving past this place for years. After reading the YELP reviews I decided to give it a try. Ordered a basic cheeseburger with onion rings and a Diet Coke. The food was just OK. Somewhat uninspiring. The onion rings were a big disappointment. Over cooked, no taste other than "greasy oil". The burger was OK. The big complaint I have is with the staff. The guy taking the orders was disorganized. There was a large carryout order ahead of me and the guy had it all screwed up. I ordered my simple request and waited. And waited, And waited. The worker actually completed and served the order for the folks behind me in line. I inquired as to the whereabouts of my cheeseburger and was met with a blank stare, like I had NOT been standing there right in front of this guy. He found my onion rings (near cold by now), then my burger appeared. He gave me my Diet Coke. I watched him draw it from the regular Coke tap. I asked him about this and he acted annoyed and then reread the order form. Without saying anything he dumped the Coke and filled the cup with Diet Coke. UGH. Not the experience I was hoping for after hearing such good things about this place. Maybe I was there on a day when the "B-Team" was working .... LOL......

Just ate here last week - well...carryout....but I have eaten in as well. I had the double cheeseburger and it was great. Onion rings were great as well. Husband had cheesy beef which he has gotten a few times and loves. Absolutely huge selection. While I was waiting, was tempted by their Ribs listed and rotisserie chicken - prices look unbeatable! I live by there and I know I will go there again!

The half chicken meal deal is as good as it gets. BBQ, Greek, or traditional with a heap of fries, cole slaw, garlic bread, and a drink (Diet Coke of course) for around $7. Try it.

Double Cheeseburger, everything on it.....no need to try anything else.. This place is my destination anytime I am within a 10 mile radius during lunchtime. Fries are really good too. The burger has plenty of cheese on it and plenty of fixins. Especially great is the full slice of onion (as opposed to the diced onion pieces that most fast food places give) I would love to review their other menu fare, but I cant bear to go there and not get a DBL C/burger
