Diabetics at Pizza Hut

Pizza is neither a great meal nor the worst for diabetes. All you need is some fact check and monitoring while ordering your pizza. Diabetics can opt for thin crust or skinny pizza at Pizza Hut and avoid the cheese topping to cut down on the excess fat and sodium. If you have diabetes, then ensure to check your portion size when you order a pizza. One or max. two slices are enough. You can also avoid meat if possible and go for wings as a meat option.

Foods to Avoid at Pizza Hut for Diabetics:

You must avoid Meat Lovers Pizza with Original Pan Crust as it contains over 1000mg sodium and will add 470 calories in your meal. You should also skip Super Supreme Pizza Large Original Pan Slice which is too high in sodium and fat. Chicken wings are often tempting but you must control and restrict yourself from ordering Traditional Honey BBQ Bone-in Wings as it can add up to your sugar levels if you eat too many. On average, a person orders or consumes six chicken wings pieces in a day.

Sides must be avoided at all costs especially if it's Bacon Cheddar Fries with Ranch Dipping Cup for its high sodium content. You must also avoid New York Style Cheesecake with Applesauce as dessert as one slice of this dessert item contains 86g sugar. Pizza Hut also offers other Italian dishes such as Pasta. However, you must skip Spaghetti with Meat Sauce and Meatballs and Garlic Bread as it is too high in sodium and sugar.

Fast-food restaurants like Pizza Hut are not recommended to dine-in if you are diagnosed with high blood pressure. High Cholesterol at Pizza Hut

Whether large, medium or small, a pizza can boost your cholesterol levels instantly. You shouldn't eat more than one slice of any pizza your order at Pizza Hut. If you're concerned with your high cholesterol, then it is wise to take your friends to Pizza Hut and share pizza among them slice by slice. You can also try pasta at Pizza Hut but ensure that you are not adding any dressing or extra cheese as you order pasta.

I have been to Osteria Via Stato several times for dinner, however, I've never been here for lunch so I thought it was about time. I was able to score a table on the patio. Roy, server, had greeted at the table and then took my drink order. Since I was heading to work afterward, I just had a soda. The runner had brought the bread and olive oil, which was outstanding. When Roy had returned, I had opted to have the Quattro Formaggi Pizza. About 10 minutes later, the pizza was brought to me. The pizza itself was large enough to share. The pizza was really goooood. Roy would check in with me and made sure my beverage was full. I was not able to enjoy any dessert this time. I would highly recommend this restaurant for a great lunch and service.

For me this is the best crispy, paper thin pizza in this city. Now, this doesn't mean I don't like deep dish or middle weight crust, but thin and crispy, this is the place for it. With ample outdoor seating and a very laid back attitude, this place is all that. It shares space with Osteria Via Stato, which also happens to be a favorite of mine. What you can't pass up here is any kind of pizza, just choose your fave ingredients, the roasted garlic that you spread in your warm bread, the tomato and burata salad, or the field greens lightly dressed with walnuts, the chicken Mario or the greasy, deep fried but so good Calabria potatoes. I just named a few items from Osteria as well as the pizzeria side. If you sit at the bar, you can order from both menus. We had an awesome server, while seated outside, who understood that I can't just have the pizza, that I must also have the chicken Mario from the Osteria Via Stato menu. Thank you. Give this place a try, it's definitely worth it, and I'll always recommend this and Osteria. My comfort food stop.

I ask the server why the focaccia is $12. "Because Chicago," he says. Indeed. Is the focaccia a big piece? "No." Hm. Well, I'll just have a pizza then. I receive what tastes like spray cheese over ketchup on a cracker that breaks apart in my hands. I'm pretty sure Tom Hanks made these in "The Terminal." When you're here, you're so close to Pizzeria Uno (or Due), just walk over one block and enjoy that cheesy goodness. And if you want cheaper focaccia, jump across the street to Eataly. (I hate that place, but the focaccia is reasonably priced.)

Sat down and 20 minutes later I found myself fetching a hostess to fetch me a server. Ordered the veal meatball and it was cold. We also ordered a Margherita pizza but he forgot to put it in so we had to wait another 20. He never came around to ask how the food was or anything. On top of that, I had to go find a hostess to find me my server again to give me the check. THIS WAS BEYOND RIDICULOUS. where is the sense of urgency?

Awesome place we had the local asparagus pizza it was amazing and we got what every body gets the octopus which was also delicious. The weather was beautiful since and worm we gotta table outside on state street and enjoined it. TIP: don't sit on the left side when because there is a hotel and people were coming out and smoking, and their smoke was blow on us.

My wife and I were staying late in the city one night, so we went off and tried a new pizza place. For an appetizer, we got olives and veal meatballs. They also provided complimentary bread. For the pizzas, my wife got a margherita pizza, while I got the special; a white pizza with rapini and an egg over easy in the middle. I really liked the bread; a very open crumb, crispy crust and great, yeasty flavor. This could easily have come from the Eataly bakery down the street. It (and the olives) were served with a vibrant, fruity olive oil that didn't need any parmesan cheese at all. There were black, green and (perhaps) Kalamata olives. Whatever harshness olives can have was tempered by the olive oil, and the olives were nice and fresh. It was topped with some preserved oranges, which flavored the olive oil... in which we promptly dipped the bread. The veal meatballs were quite good and tender as well. The pizzas are very thin and crisp. I really liked the rapini pizza; the bitter, crunchy rapini contrasted with the smooth egg and creamy ricotta. The margherita pizza had a very bright, fresh tomato sauce and some good cheese. It's not the best pizza in the city, but Pizzeria Via Stato is a good, inexpensive option for date night.

Food is decent, just not over the moon for it, service is good! Hubby and I go there whenever he craves pizza and theirs come closest to the authentic Italian ones. We both hate deep dish... sorry Chicago, that should be called cheese pie, bc calling it a pizza is disgrace to all pizzas. (Sorry for my rant lol)

This place has an expansive outdoor seating area. The service was good as all the waitstaff were very helpful and answered all our questions. They serve bread before the meal and I have to say it was warm and delicious. Our party of 4 ordered 2 salads, the beet salad and the mixed greens salad, both of which were delicious. I especially enjoyed the beet salad. We got two pizzas for the table, which we needed as we pretty much ate all of it. We ordered the margherita pizza and the vegetable pizza. The veggie one was pretty good, but the highlight for me was the margherita. I think I could eat it every day. The pizza is very thin and crispy, so if you like doughier pizza this may not be your place. 4 stars only because we were one of the first parties there and they mixed up our salad order.

I love the smell of this place! Mmmmmmmm, freshly baked bread, cheese, garlic.... I think the smell was the best thing about it! The food was definitely good, just not overly-so. I went with some gfs and we all got salads which were good. The wine was good. The white bean salad was a highlight. Really great flavor. They were rather busy, which made for a slightly overwhelmed server, but service was good as well. So yeah, it was an ok experience. A little on the pricey side for pizza, but it's in a hotel soooo, I guess that's a given.

I came here on a Sunday evening with my bf and his family with a reservation. They wanted pizza, but weren't looking for deep dish -- this place was a great choice! We asked to be seated outside instead of inside, and they were happy to seat us in the patio. The waiter, although very impatient and abrupt, was helpful in recommending vegetarian pizza options for my bf's family. The kitchen was even able to cater to our preference by running out to get fresh peppers to throw on top of the pizza to make it spicier. For the four of us, we ordered the Margherita, mushroom and four cheese pizza -- which was the perfect amount for us. The pizzas are cut into mini squares and perfect for sharing. I highly recommend ordering the Mushroom pizza! The restaurant is great, however our the server gave us some attitude, seemed a bit rushed when taking our order, and ultimately took over 20 minutes to get the check.

If you are a tourist do yourself a favor and get a delicious thin crust pizza at Pizzeria Via Stato. The service is great and the food delicious. Why stand in line for deep dish Uno's or Gino East when you can enjoy your food without the two hour wait.

Restaurant review Great lunch special! The Just bring me lunch pronto is 9.95 and includes the seasonal soup, sandwich, and a small sliver of chocolate tart for dessert. The chicken pesto sandwich has good flavor and served hot from the brick oven. The dessert is delicious, but a very small quantity. With your meal you also get hot bread from the oven with olive oil which perfectly complements an italian meal. You can't beat that price for lunch in Chicago. Pro: fresh italian food, inexpensive lunch special Cons: none Hidden gem: Lunch special 9.95 Sign up for LEYE to earn points. Annual coupon book also provides good savings

If you are looking for deep dish, this isn't your place. I came here with my family who was looking for a lighter meal, but wanted pizza. The server was very helpful suggesting the best vegetarian pizza options. They kitchen was able to cater to our preference by running out to get fresh peppers to throw on top of the pizza. Had the margherita, mushroom and four cheese pizza. The pizza is light, so I would suggest getting 3-4 betwen a family of 4. Try the variety and don't be afriad to ask the server for adjustments to the standard menu items! Only downside was the server seemed a bit rushed when taking our order and took over 20 minutes to get the check. Overall a good experirence, definitely try the thin-crust pizza here!

I'm obsessed with their margherita pizza. I've tried their other pizzas, but I wouldnt get anything else. It's a great place to stop for a quick lunch/dinner and pretty decent priced for the area!

Best pizza i have ever had!!! PIZZA: The crust was so thin and paper like, it was hard to find it. at the same time it was so crunchy and well baked it was like heaven. the cheese was fresh home made pulled mozerella which melted in the mouth. we ate 2 pizzas and still havent had enough so we're going back for more today DESSERT: amazing amazing rich chocolate tart with orange peels on top. so yummy. couldnt try the rest cuz we were full SERVICE: amazing. the waiter was so courteous and smiling all the time even though it was new years eve and they were severly short staffed.

Nothing not to like! My parents live blocks away, so I'm always too scummy to go to the grown up part of the restaurant. Despite the cheesy hotel attachment, this place is above average. The starters are all amazing. I hate a place with sub par appetizers, sometimes I plan a meal around apps. Their meatballs and prosciutto are amazing, and their octopus is THE BEST in the city. By far. So tender, so wonderful. Trust me. Their pizzas are glorious, and super thin, so if you're looking for a "real" Chicago experience, I cringe, then this isn't for you. Service is always totally fine and stuff comes out faster than most, unless you need it to. ( panic before a jay z show )

Good thin crust pizza here. Service is fast (super fast) and friendly and perfect for kids. Start with the roasted garlic with fresh baked bread and then have the bacon, potato, and egg pizza. Also had the pepperoni was ok but kids loved. Also have to give a shout out to their roasted garlic app. So good.

We went on a Saturday night around 11. Just wanted to find somewhere to get a few drinks. Got a white sangria and whiskey ginger beer. My first sip of the white sangria was very watered down, but I mixed it and it actually turned out okay. Also, ordered the margherita pizza. i must say for a pizza place, I would expect a better pizza.......the flavor and amount of sauce was great, but the dough was so soggy. I don't know if it is supposed to be like that, but I wasn't a fan. But I did like the flavor. The service was great though, and sitting outdoors is very nice in the summer.

I've dined at Osteria Via Stato many times, but this was my first visit to its sibling Pizzeria. I thought it was OK, but not outstanding in any regard. The best of our dishes included the bread, with a nice crispy crust and good inner texture, and a grilled octopus & fingerling appetizer (fresh and tangy). An arugula salad was also nice, featuring medjool dates, peppered bacon & parmesan. Our pizza choice, a margherita, was nicely crisped but was a little gloppy and lacked clean basil flavor (the leaves were overcooked). For dessert, cappuccino was just acceptable, as was burnt caramel gelato (which featured unfortunate ice crystals). There is an extensive selection of wine bottles, though very few under $40, which seems pricey for a pizza joint. All in all, PVS was about what I've come to expect from informal LEY restaurants: OK-to-good food, friendly and helpful service, and a noise level a little higher than I prefer. It was a good time, but there are better pizzerias nearby (notably La Madia).

Very good thin crust pizza. Not your typical Chicago pie. I like the veggies pizza and the celery Caesar salad for a starter.

Oh, my heart, my conflicted conflicted heart. We live in the area and had walked by this place before, read the menu, and I knew we had to come back. The food was amazing. Even the complimentary bread was so good -- crusty and warm. The soup du jour.. something like cream of tomato.. yum. The crispy pork pizza with balsamic onions was to-die-for. I've had pizza in Rome, and this place did it justice. Chocolate tart was a great way to close off the leisurely lunch too. So why so conflicted? I loved the food but service was so sorely lacking. We were seated immediately then looked around uncomfortably for 15 minutes before our orders were taken. Then our pizza came after a long time and we had to ask for our soup that never came. Our water was never filled. We didn't see our waitress from ordering our food to dessert. It was a really late lunch, and the place was nowhere near full. So frustrating. Food is so good though, I'll come back and hope for better service.

Great service! Pizza Classico was excellent. Also tasted the Local Broccoli pizza but didn't love it. May I was really just in more of a "Classico" mood :) Wine list was great too. Music was a bit too loud to enjoy conversation but music selection was nice.

Went here for dinner with a friend. The atmosphere was perfect, nice, but also very comfortable. Our waiter, Dario, was awesome. He had a lot of recommendations on the food and was so enthusiastic! We had the roasted garlic, vidalia onion, and roasted octopus for starters and they were amazing! The bread was great and we had some pizza which was also great. Overall, this was a great dinner for a reasonable price. Would definitely go back!

Second trip to Pizzeria via Stato (i should probably try Osteria next time to mix it up). i LOVE the thin, wood fired crust. Went for the fresh fig, gorgonzola, and arugula pizza. If you are a fan of gorgonzola - this is sooo good. The bread before the pizza is perfect - crusty and delicious. And, the olive oil is green, fresh, and brought back memories of Tuscany. All at the table loved there pizzas and can't wait to go back.

I carry-out a salad here about once a week . . . 6 months ago I would have given it 5 stars - however . . . slowly but surely my opinion is dwindling. First of all . . . the quantity of food is no where near the price they charge (most of my office mates feel the same) . . . seems the dishes get smaller with every order. And they seem highly inconsistent. The Penne with chicken is quite good - if you don't get one where the pasta is charred to a crisp. . . the chopped salad is excellent if they remember the parmesan and the avocado . . . On a lucky day, they'll include bread with your order . . . other times, not so much. It's just inconsistent across the board. Sad really . . . I loved this place.

4.5 stars. This a great place for a satisfying lunch at a great price for its location. The bread and olive oil were first rate quality. The salads were fresh and tossed with just the right amount of dressing. They were priced at 6.95 whereas same quality and quantity is priced 10-12 anywhere else downtown. The pizza was paper thin and solid. Despite ordering it well done, the middle was still soft. However, the sauce, mozzarella, and flavor of ingredients were fabulous. Angelo made our cappuccino piping hot as requested and provided warm service throughout. This is a great and very reasonably priced downtown lunch or dinner option. The setting is warm and cozy.

OK food, terrible service. Small menu. Convenient if staying at the connected hotel - but so many other places in Chicago to get brick oven pizza in Chicago. I would not go back. The hostess was rude (Zandra) and just makes it not worth it.

I guess they're trying to compete with Quartino, but Pizzeria Via Stato was a let down for me. I had the special pizza of the month, which our server recommended and was supposed to be slightly spicy with prosciutto. It fell flat--the crust was the best thing about it, there was not enough cheese or other ingredients on my pizza, it lacked any taste (I actually wish it had been spicy) and it was just bland and boring. Portions are kind of small for dinner, the pizza was super thin. I tried a Peroni, which I did not like either, wish they had a few more beer choices. So all in all, a disappointing dining experience here. Service was satisfactory.

I've said it once, and I'll say it again... I love thin, crispy pizza. Pizzeria Via Stato is a solid choice for this anti-Chicago-deep-dish gal. Recently I ventured over for an outdoor weekday lunch and had the opportunity to try something other than their delicious pizzas. I went with the "bring me lunch!" deal (seriously, this is a really good deal for a downtown lunch), and had asparagus soup, the chicken pesto sandwich, and a mini chocolate torte, all for $10. It was delicious. I was expecting the sandwich to be a 1/2 sandwich, since the full sandwich without the soup & torte is the same price as the lunch deal, but it was a full-on sandwich. I couldn't finish it, and ended up taking my little torte to-go. Highly recommended for a leisurely lunch!

I'm an obstinate person. When I lived in Colorado and Nebraska, I hated steak. And ever since I moved to Chicago and tried deep dish for the first time, I hated it, too. (If I want lasagna, I'll order lasagna. Not soggy bread.) I'm also not a fan of the super-oily, cheese-overload thin crust pizzas, either. You must now be thinking: Gee, what kind of pizza *do* you like? Thin crust, preferably cracker-crunchy. Not too much sauce. Not too much cheese. Basically, I like a good Roman style pizza. My husband and I searched and scoured reviews on Yelp. We traveled to Wicker Park, up to the old Carmen's pizza stand at Loyola, and to little storefront pizza shops, but they were all too much New-York-y styled, with rivers of oil oozing down the front if you picked it up. I feared we would never find anything good when year 1 in Chicago passed without much luck. Then one night we stopped in this place because we were hungry. Jackpot. We've visited so often that some of the servers remember us and bring out just the bottles of Sprechers Root Beer, no glass and no ice, the way we love it. Cracker crust. Good cheese, good sauce, and not too much of either. And one pizza feeds two people almost perfectly. Sometimes we have a few squares left over, and sometimes we polish it off. I can imagine that people of size might consider the thin crust a personal-sized pizza, but for the average Joe, it feeds two. I've had the cheese and the pepperoni, and both are good. I'm sure the other pizzas are tasty, but honestly, I have no desire to try them. Give me cheese, and I'm happy. The gelato is also good. Not OMG THIS IS AMAZING, but it is certainly delicious. Since they're made fresh, the available flavors vary. I can vouch for the cherry, caramel, chocolate, and vanilla. The macaroons, though...they are the best that I've ever eaten (so far). Almond-sliver-encrusted heaven. My husband and friends love the dark chocolate truffles and the candied oranges. And the dark chocolate tart. The service here is really good. I mean, you're not expecting Smith and Wollensky style service here with the fancy serving trolley, but they are nice, friendly, and and definitely know their customer service, which I've noticed is a quality that Lettuce Entertain You establishments are good at. A couple of pro-tips: It's pretty slow early in the evening. You can go to dinner at 5 or 5:30 and be able to get a table quickly. It's a small place, so it fills up quickly as the evening goes on, and you may end up waiting for a while. (It's worth the wait.) They do not take reservations for the Pizzeria side of the restaurant. (Osteria does.) If you want to take the pizza home, you can call ahead and pick it up. And order desserts. If you can't decide among the ice cream flavors, order the 3-dish option. The serving sizes are normal, probably half a cup to maybe 3/4 of a cup of ice cream in a dish, so you can easily sample the ice cream platter with a friend or spouse. So, if you're looking for Roman style pizza with good service and desserts without spending a pretty penny, go to Pizzeria Via Stato.

We weren't really in a pizza mood but decided to try this place and glad we did. First, the service was AWESOME. Our waiter was attentive, knowledgeable, and personable. He is the reason for five stars. The wine list is extensive and Italian. The waiter made a great suggestion based on what we liked and we were not disappointed. We had the antipasto...yum! The waiter suggested the special pizza - again, we were satisfied. It was a thin crust with bacon, pepper, blue cheese, and pear. We finished the night with wonderful coffee drinks. We will return!

Been here twice, once dining in and once taking out. This place is clearly for tourists and as it's attached to the Embassy Suites, this shouldn't surprise. First of all, the bar prices... No one in their right mind would pay $7 for any Bell's or Goose Island draft at a normal restaurant like this, (unless it's a Bell's Hop Slam, but no way it gets that good here, much less most places). I live nearby though so I've tried this place a couple times. First time dining in, it was good. Didn't blow me away, but they have some interesting combinations and their oven provides a legit enough Italian style pizza. It was done right, crispy on the bottom with a little softness. The diavola and margarita were good, fresh ingredients, solid. It's convenient and I liked it. Second time, I took a margarita pizza home. It was really overdone, burned on the bottom and had no softness at all. Lame. Way more options in the city for delivery or take out, and way better places to dine out for good pizza. I'll probably go elsewhere unless I'm too lazy to make it more than a block away. And I may be persuaded by the half-off pizzas during happy hour sometime, but then again the bar prices may deter that thought.

If i am just rating the goods: Incredible! huge recommendation: get the peppered bacon and egg pizza. You will love it- . The Bellini's here are awesome as well. I dream about the pizza here- very much like true pizza from italy and so good! But the service would get 2 stars. I sat at the bar on a Monday (no one was in the place except for a few patrons Bc it was a holiday) I barely got greeted, took forever for her to actually place my order. Maybe they let all of their good staff have the holiday off, but the food was worth it.

My husband and I ordered the prosciutto pizza and grilled octopus. The pizza was delicious, but the crust was very, very thin. We like thin pizzas, but this felt like a thin cracker! Grilled octopus was very tender, but there was not enough octopus and too many fingerling potatoes! I think the best part was the warm bread they served beforehand... it tasted amaaaazing with the olive oil and vinaigrette mixed together. :) Overall, the food was decent, but overpriced for the portions.

I came here for dinner with my friend after she got off work. I wouldn't call it early bird special time, but it was still early enough that there weren't very many other diners. So I didn't have any trouble with the service. The roasted garlic is so good. It comes in a bath of balsamic and olive oil that you can spread over a piece of bread. You get the same effect almost as black garlic, but roasting it makes it way easier to spread. Of course the pizza is good; the crust is super thin and crispy. The sausage for the sausage pizza is seasoned really well and it was my favorite. But the margherita and four cheese white pizzas were also really good. I also love pizza that's cut into squares, because I like to steal all the middle pieces. I wish the beer list was longer, because they have some good beers on there. I tried the Metropolitan Krankshaft that had just the right amount of bitterness. Most other people were drinking wine. I'm kind of confused by people saying you have to go into Embassy Suites to use the bathroom. If I remember correctly, there is a bathroom here. It's a one-person bathroom with a translucent window that's located right off the dining area. You can kind of see what's going on right outside of the bathroom, so that's pretty awkward. I think I'd say 3.5 stars. It was good, but I'm not absolutely dying to come back so I'm rounding down.

First I want to say this was a relatively nice restaurant. I went at night and so it is dimly lit with a dark wood decorum. It's confusing because there are two restaurants right beside each other. The host was okay. Our waiter was incredibly present and patient and kind. She would get a 4 start. In our party someone had to go to the bathroom which is in the hotel on the second floor way down the corridor. We thought their should be signs posted. We had drinks, meatballs as an appetizer, and margherita pizza. The meatballs were swimming in a rich red sauce. They were tasty. The pizza was different and good but far from the wow experience I expect in fine dining. The crust is more than super thin it's paper thin. The tomatoes and basil were fresh. Atmosphere nice. Waiter/staff nice. Food is okay. I wanted to give them a 3.50 but the rating system does not allow for it.

We were there on a tuesday night after a trade show and were very hungry. Their bread was amazing, fresh, and tasty. The olive oil was one of the best. but Be forewarned that the crust is ultra thin. I was expecting a think crust, but this is just too thin. A personal pizza was not enough for one person. I was out with two others, so I got to taste three different pizzas: the weekly special with feta and mushrooms was by far the best. Their regular margherita was nothing special. ordinary. the fennel pizza was ok. it had a bit more taste to it. They do a decent job of bringing it out on time because we were in a rush to catch a flight back out.

The general atmosphere is good. But, it's a pizzeria, and the pizza took FOREVER to come. And then it was so soggy it was difficult to eat - and I just ordered a margherita, not some weird pizza.

We ended up here at 1030pm Wednesday because our other choice changed their hours and closed at 10pm. I am so glad we found this place!! Our server was awesome and didn't care we were there 30min before close. We chose to eat outside so we could people watch while we ate. My boyfriend and I love over ordering when we try a new place, we want to try it all. So to start we ordered a simple Caprese salad, Grilled Octopus with garlicky finglerling potatoes and Veal meat balls. My favorite was the Octopus. I saw other reviews claiiming there were too many potatoes..we did not have that problem. Most appetizers were about $7.95. And you if often go out to eat thats a pretty average starting rate. The veal meatballs were very delicious, i thought they were small but you got a lot of them which made sharing easy. The marinara was very simple and very clean tasting, great with the bread. As for the Caprese...wonderful! I know i know its just tomatoes and cheese, but they do something great with those tomatoes. For our entree we ordered just a simple sausage pizza and we chose to add mushrooms. It was perfect!! It was the cleanest simplest pizza ive ever had. Crazy right? Lets just put it this way I didnt feel like a hippo after stuffing my face with this beautiful za. The pizza is so thin you have to actually fold the middle pieces to eat them. This is how i prefer my pizza. If you do not love super crispy thin crust pizza, then dont order it or maybe go somewehere else. Back to prices people were complaining that it was too expensive....Our total bill was $60. Thats for 3 appetizers, one pizza and two top shelf drinks that cost $11 each. If you can't afford $38 for dinner STAY HOME!!! Can't wait to come back!

Went here for a quick bite. We ordered a thin crust pizza and it was barely enough for both of us. We also noticed most of the pieces were burnt. I wouldn't come back due to the high risk of burnt food.

This pizza is awesome! If you like thin crust roman style pizza it's your place! The margarita pizza was off the hook, bursting with favors. The veal meat balls are a must! My three kids were fighting over them, and my wife and I were jockeying for position! We also order the anti pasta appetizer, a little sophisticated for younger palettes but awesome none the less.

Came here because yelp had pointed us to a Pizza place. Me and my co-worker were visiting Chicago and had wanted to try a Chicago deep dish pizza. This is no where near what we had expected. Lighting was super dark and the place was cramped and crowded. The place is apparently known for their thin crust pizza, which we reluctantly ordered. It's not half bad, but I'm not exactly impressed. Ended up giving the take-out to a homeless guy, not because the food was bad, but just so you know... Service I have to say was pretty sub par. Pizza took forever and a half to come out and it was a pain to flag down the waitress because the place is so small and dark... The price I couldn't remember, but I wasn't complaining too bad for it. Now I'm no down town kid, but I sort of like to not be accidentally listen in on other people's conversations because the tables are way too close together. If you're here to discuss mafia secrets and hit lists, I don't suggest coming here to discuss that.

The ambience is dark and secretive and lovely. You go from State Street to an underground village tavern. Perfect for a late-evening meal with your significant other. I like you already, pizzeria darling. Oh, and the pizza. The pizza, the pizza, the pizza. Fresh toppings artfully sprinkled over the most fragile of pizza crusts, so thin and light that when you bite into it, you hear a delicate but satisfying crunch. That, my friend, is the sound of music to my ears. We had the roasted fennel and radicchio white pizza (my favourite!) and the barese sausage with goat cheese. For an appetiser, I highly recommend the grilled octopus with roasted potatoes. Ask for some bread to mop up the olive oil, lemon and herb sauce-- the bread is warm, supple, and very very good.

I think I understand why this pizzeria is attached to a hotel. It's so you can be discreet with your over indulgence, maybe to get some alone time and really dive into each other, to go wild and make a mess. Stop Six: As in six six six It might be very a sin to eat here at Pizzeria Via Stato. Service is excellent, pizza is very very good, and it's a quaint little place. If you're on a diet, this is not the place for you! This is also not the kind of place to bring a first date, unless they like that garlic, onion breath?! Sweet Onions crusted with Parmesan **Holy cheesy oniony mess Roasted beets salad -red & chiogga beets, goat cheese, micro greens ** Good Celery Caesar -romaine, celery, garlic croutons ** Massive sized salad, it could have been my dinner Margherita Pizza -san marzano tomatoes, hand-pulled mozzarella, basil ** One of the best Margherita pizza's I've ever eaten and that says a lot. Of course I went with the special but who could resist BACON Pizza -BACON, onions, egg, garlic, and a hint of olive oil. ** The Onions were a little much but the rest was deliciously EVIL! I think I made my case!

Pizzas here are excellent if you like the rustic style pizzas they serve in naples, italy. i recently returned from naples and the pizza here is one of the better options in chicago. my only wish is that they would have more options for various toppings and more specials. the specials are hit or miss. some of them are excellent like the bacon/egg/peppers, but they're seasonal as the chef chooses. overall, excellent pizza, if you're craving neopolitan style pizza in the loop, this is a very good option

The pizzas are pretty small and are kind of a mix of Chicago tavern style (cracker-crust) and central/northern Italian-style. A pizza per person and a split app is probably the least someone would want. Mine was cut into squares and the margherita has nice minimalist but high-quality toppings, with good olive oil being the most noticeable flavor. I'd def go back. I went on a weekday, you can walk up and get seated easily.

u can't beat the prices for downtown dining. the only odd thing is pizzeria via stato and osteria via stato are two different restaurants next to each other. personally i think it's very weird that u can't get both in one restaurant... what if your friend wants pizza and u want pasta? u have to split up into 2 parties or sit at the bar. we both ordered from the pizza menu and got to sit in osteria via stato anyway. the whole thing is very confusing. onto the food... we shared grilled octopus with fingerling potatoes. the potatoes were a bit on the mushy side but delicious as they were drenched in olive oil. i had the arugula salad with dates, parmesan, and bacon. oh mah gah. i don't normally like or eat dates but they were so delicious in the salad. balance of sweet and chewy with salty savory and fatty. my friend had the roasted beets salad. equally delicious and fresh. the pizza was just to my liking. SUPER thin brick oven pizza. paper thin and fresh. so u can eat pizza and not feel heavy and gross afterwards. we got the margherita which is a classic and a staple. if u mess up a margherita pizza then... u just suck. finally dessert. oh lord. 3 small scoops of gelato. each scoop had either crushed cookie bits or a whole cookie. the texture of the gelato was perfect. sometimes u order gelato and it just tastes like ice cream. chocolate hazelnut, pistachio, and vanilla were our choices. pistachio won me over, hands down. this was indulgent and heavenly. for two people we spent $55 including tax and tip. not bad for a date night. oh one more thing, this is a great alternative to quartinos next door which is always a busy cluster. the menus are similar even tho the restaurants are not related and i would venture to say i like pizzeria via stato a little better, if not only for the gelato.

Wandering around Chicago at 9PM with no reservations, we were lucky to stumble upon this gem. The food was fantastic, the setting was lovely and our total bill was less than $30. We had the eggplant arancini, the fonduta and pepperoni pizza. More than enough for the both of us. The first bite of arancini yielded a crisp coating with melty cheese. Awesome. The fonduta was also good (think of the best hot spinach dip you've ever had then multiply it by a hundred), and the garlic toasts were tasty even by themselves. The pizza was good -- the opposite of deep dish. Thin, crackly crust, not too much cheese and teeny, high-quality pepperoni. Yum!

Have to update my last review. I've been back a few times since and have had amazing service that makes me think my initial experience was just a fluke. As nice as the patio is in the summer, I absolutely love the atmosphere indoors of both the Osteria and Pizzeria sides and will probably always sit inside from now on. Had dinner on the Osteria side a few weeks ago. My friend and I split the calamari, which was pretty solid, and the spinach fonduta, which is absolutely to-die-for. I had the linguine and clams, and my friend ordered the short-rib ravioli. The linguine was very good, but I would probably go with the ravioli next time. For dessert, we had the chocolate cake and the cheesecake (SUPER light). They were both fantastic, and were the perfect size to give us just a few bites of something sweet after a big meal. On the Pizzeria side, I would highly recommend sitting up at the bar if there are spots available. The bartender, Patrick, is super friendly, very helpful, and recommended a wonderful wine for me based on what I told him of my tastes. My friend and I split the margherita pizza and the sausage pizza. I love thin-crust, and the margherita with the hand-pulled mozzarella comes closer to the pizzas I had over in Italy than any other pizza I've found in the states. The sausage pizza was great as well, though we talked about putting the sausage on the margherita pizza next time since we both preferred the hand-pulled mozzarella. SO glad I decided to give Osteria/Pizzeria another chance, particularly since I think I've found my favorite pizza in the entire US.

We got the cheese Fondutu which was excellent, and probably the best spinach cheese like dip I have ever had! It came with toasted buttery toasts and with the cheese, my friend said it tasted like a delicious grilled cheese sandwich, to make it more elegant, you could say it was like a gooey deconstructed grilled cheese sandwich. There were three of us so we decided to share two pizzas, the house special which was the mushroom, ricotta, truffle oil, with farm egg pizza, and the margherita pizza. The Margherita was ok, it was very thin though, and I almost felt like I was eating paper. The white truffle pizza was definitely my favorite of the two pizzas and it was very interesting to have a sunny side up pizza in the middle of the egg. I have to say though, odd as it is, after eating this, I wish there were more eggs in the pizza! Pizzeria was pretty good, I would go back, but I am not sure I would say it is my fav pizza place, but I was very pleased with the cheese fonduta and the white mushroom truffle pizza. I wonder if they would add another egg for me next time?

I wasn't sure what to expect, but I was very positively impressed by Pizzeria Via Stato. With Quartino across the street, there's obvious comparison's being made. My conclusion: Via Stato trumps Quartino in the quality of the food, but Quartino has the better atmosphere (especially if you eat in the bar area). That being said, Via Stato is solid. The food is very, very good (especially the fonduta) and reasonably priced, which is my favorite combination. Easy to make good for for a lot of money. Rare to find great food at good prices. This one's a keeper.

We went pizza crazy since we had a party of 6, so we each ordered 1. We had sausage, mushroom, pepperoni, margherita, peppered bacon, and salame rosa. The pizzas were very small (individual sized) and thin. The salame rosa was the best then the peppered bacon. Everything else was just ok.

Some of the worst service in all of Chicago. The wait staff here acts as if they are doing you a favor by getting you a drink. Waited 20 minutes to even open a tab at the bar. The bartender (an older gentleman) was organizing stuff and making drinks at a snails pace when there were tons of people waiting to get drinks. He even turned his back so he didn't have to take people's orders. Once I opened a tab and wanted to get another drink the female server working that night told me she couldn't get me a drink unless I was sitting at a table and to ask the other male server. This male server told me to get a drink from the bar and that I couldn't from him because I had already opened a tab there. Hello!??? How about being proactive and trying to find a solution? I had another credit card he could have taken. He could have offered to close my bar tab and open it with him. It seemed like nobody at this place gave a damn. I couldn't believe it. Seriously this was quite possibly the worst most arrogant "service" in all of Chicago. Have some pride in your job and your life.

Called in as a normal, polite customer and what did I get? LAZY, and I mean absolutely the epitamy of self-righteous lazy storefolk that thought they were to good to work in a store. Well if you are so intelligent then why egads, QUIT instead of waiting to be fired and automation can reign already. I hate you already Pizzeria Via Stato and type this in full anger. I called back to let you know what I had on my mind about your crappy service. I have no clue how your food tastes because of your shitty service people make a big deal about delivery. Screw you. I will NEVER go to this place again and this was the first time.

We came on a Tuesday night after work and we were pretty much the only table. We ordered a good variety for the seven of us. The pizzas took much longer to come out than expected. Most of the thin crust places we have gone to, the pizza comes out in 5-8 minutes. These took a good 20 minutes which was odd considering how thin they were. In fact I would have liked them more if they spent less time in the oven. The crust is extremely thin and cracker like. Some parts were overly burned and fell apart right away. The toppings were pretty good, but the crust really couldn't hold up to them. The sausage had a great flavor to it. The peppered bacon was delicious. I generally like the pizzas with egg on top, but my one wish is that there were more than one egg. It's really difficult to eat when the one egg is smack in the middle of the pizza. The roasted butternut squash was pretty good, but could have used a bit more cheese and squash. The pepperoni was pretty standard. The artichoke and sunchoke pizzas were both really tasty. It probably helped that they were drizzled with truffle oil. For many of the pizzas, it would have helped if there were some more toppings spread towards the edges. Because the edges that had very few toppings were often burnt and really dry.

I've been here a few times now, and I love it! Service is great and super friendly. Pizza is delicious!!! Expect to pay a little more for drinks, given its location, but they have a beer of the month for a great price. Sit at the bar and get the advantage of both Osteria and Pizzeria menus!

After a day out with friends, we decided to stop in and grab some pizza, late night style. I had heard good things about this place, and was eager to try this widely talked about spot. It was late and we originally wanted to sit outside, but after realizing it was a little chilly, they accomodated us by letting us sit inside. This is where the evening began to go downhill. Upon walking back inside, one of my friends apparently tripped, but no one else seemed to notice. We sat down, received water from the staff and menus. After about 10 minutes, a waiter finally came over and took our order. We ordered 3 pizzas, a salad, and some olives for the 5 of us, but no drinks at that time. Another 10 minutes went by before we saw or heard from our waiter again when he brought our salad to the table. At that time, one of my friends ordered a glass of wine and was told by the waiter, "Umm...yeah...I don't think that is going to happen. I can serve you water or some tea, but anything else is not happening." Apparently, when my friend tripped coming in, they interpreted that as "stumbling" and therefore would not serve us. I appreciate and understand that as an establishment, you cannot serve someone who appears to be intoxicated. However, I really think that he could have been nicer about how he handled the situation and said something like, "I'm sorry, but my manager has told me I cannot serve alcohol to your table." or even sent the manager over to tell us. Instead, he was a complete jerk! I then canceled the rest of our order, and asked for a check the salad we had already started to eat. I sent the rest of my party outside to wait while I paid the bill. Bringing us the check was also an ordeal apparently, and was taking forever. While I was waiting, I took money out, put it on the table and stood up. The waiter came over and rudely asked, "Oh, so I assume you girls are leaving and not paying for your check?" I replied, "Well, I asked for the bill, but it hasn't come yet. The salad was $5.95, and we canceled everything else, so I would assume with tax $7.00 should be enough." I handed him the money and walked out. I believe in good customer service, and have worked in customer service for over 10 years. Because of how the situation was handled, because the service was slow, and because the waiter was rude, I will not be back...and I will make sure to tell people who ask me about this restaurant about my experience.

For thin crust pizza you can't go wrong at Pizzeria. Others have complained that it's confusing to have two restaurants next to each other in the same space, but it's really just the typical restaurant menu vs. bar menu that lots of places use these days. The only difference is they call the bar menu the "Pizzeria" menu. Now, back to the pizzas. If you like thin crust and minimal toppings that highlight the quality of the underlying ingredients, this is the place for you. I've been to the Pizzeria a half-dozen times now and tried pretty much every pizza on the menu, and they're all great. A few of the non-pizza items were just so-so, which prompted me to dock a star. The service has been generally friendly, and they were even quick to get a high chair when we brought our baby. Pizzeria is definitely one of our old-reliables when in River North.

I came here with several other co-workers last week for a lunch with our company president and had a decent meal. I ordered one of the pizzas on special; it was vegetarian and had fennel. I'm fuzzy on the details but thought that the pizza was alright. Not great, by any means. Most everyone seemed to enjoy their food and one lady ordered a super special dish because not only is she extremely difficult, she is also lactose intolerant. The chef came out at the end of our meal to make sure that she liked it. So, plus points for being so nice and accommodating. There's outdoor seating but also numerous ambulances that rolled by with sirens blaring. Not the restaurant's fault but it's still unpleasant. But my main complaint with this place is the service, and lack of it. Our waitress would disappear for long spouts of time and I had to ask EVERY SINGLE TIME that I wanted a refill of my iced tea. The chick I sat next to ordered a jameson & coke and the waitress completely forgot about it, not once but twice. It was annoying and borderline ridiculous; like pulling teeth to get a damn to-go box. Terrible service. If I ever end up here again, I'll probably try the pasta. And hopefully another server. There were a couple of uber cute gays that seemed to be on their game with their tables. A girl can dream!

Ok, so... night number 8 in Chicago for work and only one day left... As it was my last night and I was completely brain dead from working so long (and being in a hotel so long), I planned on blowing my night on margaritas at a famous Mexican restaurant down the street... and then it started to rain. As my Southern blood can no longer handle 40-50 degree weather AND precipitation, I decided to just eat in the hotel restaurant (something I NEVER do)... which was Pizzeria Via Stato. I sat down and started out with the Sangiovese blend of wine... delicious! Amazing and I definitely had another glass... I ordered the Margherita pizza and the Panzenella salad. I expected the salad to be a, well, SALAD, with bread on it (like you see on Food Network). But, it was actually a bread salad (no lettuce at all) with heirloom tomoato halves, strips of onion, cucumber and olives, all drenched in olive oil. DELICIOUS!! The olive oil was amazingly aromatic and flavorful, and it completely drenched the authentic, toasted Italian ciabatta it was covering. Amazing! The tomatoes, cukes, onions and olive slivers all complimented it perfectly. DEFINITELY go and get this salad! Then my pizza came, and it was kind of a bummer! :( This pizza is extremely thin crust, which I knew when I ordered, but didn't realize that it was so thin that parts would turn BLACK AS COAL as it was being cooked! (Yikes! I thought that stuff caused cancer?!) The ingredients were simple, hand-crushed tomatoes, cut up basil and mozzerela... only not nearly enough cheese to be satisfied with. It was yummy, but not nearly as awesome as EVO back home in Charleston (SC)... SC better then Chicago... what's that tell you?! In the end... only 3 stars for the pizza but 4 for the salad, wine and service. It was a nice atmosphere and a good meal (some parts great) for a rainy night in!! Ok.... this is an edit... the gelato, OMG, the gelato!!! Amazing! I had the caramel chocolate, and was told all gelato was made in house daily. Amazing, heavenly, orgasmic... Seriosly, go to this restaurant, get some amazing wine, the panzanella salad and the GELATO!! YUMMY!!

We were driving down Ohio and were STARVING, so my sweetie found the first available parking space. We figured it would be fun to just go to the closest restaurant we see. Via Stato it is! It was about 2:35 pm and as we approached the host stand, there was this HUGE board that stated, "1/2 off all pizzas from 2:30-4:30, SHHH don't tell anyone!" oops, I guess I spilled the beans!...OMG, I never get that lucky! We arrived at the perfect time! =) Yey! since the pizzas are 1/2 off, we ordered 3. We got the sausage (my favorite), pepperoni, and garlic. They were very good, and VERY thin, which I loved! I hate getting stuffed on one slice of the traditional pan pizzas, so this was perfect for me. Oh, we also ordered the penne chicken pasta which was very good. FYI, the servings here aren't huge like other Italian restaurants, but appropriate for the price. The only reason this place doesn't get 5 stars is because the service was slow, and the pizzas took a fairly long time. But for half off, I ain't gonna complain!

Pizzeria via Stato has some of the best pizza made in Chicago. Bar none, as an italian, that worked as a kid in a napolitano style pizzeria...this is THE best. The house-made sausage, the veggie, and the margarita pizzete all are SPOT on. Service is great, atmosphere is fantastic. We love the tables and how they are made from wine shipping boxes. Did I mention the bread? Some of THE best bread. It's addictive!!

Four stars for the food, none for the service. A year ago, Pizzeria Via Stato amazed me with not only unique, tasty pizza but also very solid, friendly service. Today, it seems to have take on an ambience more suiting to its location--a hotel lobby. Seated on the outside patio, we waited 15 minutes for the waiter to take our orders, another 30 minutes for our pizzas to arrive. Our waiter never stopped by to see if the food was to our liking (it was) or to tells us what was taking the food so long--this despite the fact that the table next to us was seated and fed in half the time as us. Meanwhile, a busboy "wiped down" an adjacent table by shoving straw-wrappers, a receipt and crumbs onto the floor. We were not given napkins and silverware so I had to get up and fetch them myself. The music playing outside was the worst of bland late 90's pop-rock; to make matters worse, the CD was skipping. This is a shame because, honestly, this is some of the more tasty pizza I've had in Chicago. But with service and atmosphere not just unimpressive but downright bad, I doubt I'll be back.

I've never actually eaten at the restaurant location itself, I've only had their food delivered along with my Osteria Via Stato order. First of all, I absolutely HATE deep dish pizza, so if you are looking for that lame excuse for pizza, you won't find it here. All the pizzas here are thin crust, with a light sprinkling of toppings. You won't find a brick of cheese, doughy mushy pizza with gigantic toppings the size of fists here. As you can tell, I've been to Giordano's. All the pizzas I had here are great, the mushroom, arugula, potato, vegetable, pepperoni - all stellar.

I was here over the weekend for a non-lovey dovey date with the boy. We completely over-ordered, and the tab reflected that. I always like it when a server says "Hey, that may be too much food." But some people may not think so, they might think, " Hey bucky, who are you?" So I understand it was our fault we over-ordered. Too much food or not, it was very tasty. We had prosciutto with buffalo mozzarella to start, the potato rosemary pizza, and the sunchoke pizza. I had never even heard of a sunchoke, but they're some pretty yummy sweet little things. Apparently from the root of a sunflower, they're named after a sunflower and an artichoke. One pizza would have been enough to share, if getting an app and some dessert. We each took half a pizza home with us. Friendly staff, spacious, comfortable place to have a Roman pizza, a quart of wine, and relax.

I'm surprised that the "Pizzeria" Via Stato part hasn't put the "Osteria" part out of business b/c it's a great atmosphere and it serves delicious antipasto and pizzas! You feel as if you're nestled in a little European village at Pizzeria Via Stato. The dark woods, abundant wine, and drapery make a great atmosphere for dates, dinner with friends, etc. The pizzas here are really fantastic. Not as huge of a selection as there could be, but enough to make you want to veer away from the standard margherita pizza and try something new. You can also add different toppings to personalize your pizza. Best part of Pizzeria Via Stato is the price. Pizzas are in the $10 range and wine is affordable as well. For River North, Pizzeria Via Stato is such a deal.

A group of us went here a couple of days ago, but only in a roundabout way. I've always thought pizzeria was great, but this last experience was what tipped me over the edge into writing this review. The person in charge of making the reservation intended for us to go here, but ended up making reservations at Osteria instead. We sit down, get out drinks and bread, and belatedly realize there's no pizza on the menu. Horrors! So we ask to be switched, fully expecting grumbling and hand waving, but they were so awesome about moving us over. And they got us new bread! In the land of deep dish, there are a couple of thin crust places that just stand out. Piece, in wicker park is one. And this is another. Great, great pizza. Thin and crisp and crunchy. And a great wine selection to boot. If you get here early, definitely go get a drink at the bar. The other patrons dining there and the bartender are a hoot - they all seem to be regulars from the way they interact with each other. Highly recommended.

The pizza here has a paper thin crust. Almost too thin. The edge of the crust bubbles too much and burns. The toppings were quite good and fresh with great flavor. However, I'm just not a fan of the crust. I was expecting a more authentic Italian-style pizza. These were nothing like the ones I had in Italy. They weren't bad though and the atmosphere is nice and cozy.

Its not bad pizza...extremely thin crust is hot and crunchy...there is a lunch special before 2pm,,,tasty but basically glorified thin crust pizza....the place is classy the service is attentive...no complaints ....there is a casual area for lunch and a more formal dining room in the back..but i digress...i would go here on a date to impress but once thats over,,,you can get a better pie at many other places in chicago..

I came here for dinner after a Saturday afternoon movie at AMC on Michigan. A 10-20 minute wait was closer to 30 minutes, but that was alright. We ordered our appetizers and pizza and enjoyed the outdoor seating and people watching on State St. Our server must have forgotten about our appetizers because only minutes after I commented on how long it was taking for our appetizers to come, our pizzas arrived sans appetizers. We had to remind the waiter of our order. Oh well. The food itself was quite good. I had the margherita pizza and I believe my friends ordered the mushroom and sausage pizzas. All of them were very tasty. The margherita had a hint of sweetness to it, which I enjoyed, though it's not for everyone. They serve extremely thin crust pizza here, which usually isn't my thing, but the crust was very well done. It was flaky and crispy in all the right places. The mozzarella appetizers were also very good, albeit late, and were a good complement to the pizza. I was a bit disappointed that you really couldn't order anything besides pizza, appetizers, alcohol, and dessert at the pizzeria. So, if you're in the mood for anything other than pizza you'd be better off going to the full restaurant or somewhere else. Even though we got our appetizers after our entrees, the waiter did keep our beverages topped off throughout the meal which almost made up for the appetizer flub.

Is it fair to write a review just on the wine??? You bet...here it goes. I used to come here a lot for happy hour when the entire restaurant was called Osteria Via Stato, but we called it Erik Estrada's. For some reason it was much easier to say and remember. Osteria Via Stato is a mouthful...and now it's Pizzeria Via Stato..seriously whatever. Well after guzzling down wine at Quartino my friend and I had the bright idea to get more across the street because a) it was close by and b)we hadn't had enough. So we hurled ourselves through the revolving door and wow, has this place changed. It's like two completely separate restaurants now. I usually like to belly up to the bar, but every seat was taken so we decided to get a table and just drink amidst the 'eaters'. The wine list had several nice wines, but I stop reading when one of the wine descriptions mentioned Zinfandel (I love Zin's) That's what we ordered. Ok, it was the cheapest on the menu, but one of the best glasses of wine I've had in a while. Our server, which was great (Brian), noted that it was new on the list. Service was great and we didn't eat a thing. We let out server know that we were just gonna have a glass or three of wine and he was happy to attend to our thirsty needs. Everyone looked happy with their pizza's and they smelled delicious. Maybe next time I'll try a slice. But this time it was all about the wine. I remember now why I used to come here so much...the wine was always great here...sigh. Ok, BIG STAR DEDUCTION for the bathroom. I forgot that the men's restroom is a true 'country' mile away - I'm serious. This restaurant is connected to the Embassy Suites and yes, you have to go in there to use the restroom. If I remember correctly, it's up several flights of stairs, around two corners, past the business center then down a corridor. I should have stopped in to update my facebook and tell my friend that I didn't ditch her and that my journey back would be a while. It's kind of funny at first until you have to go again, then it's not. I want to go back and try the pizza and leave before I have to pee.

Daniel Fonduta Artichoke and Local Potato pizza That is my Pizzeria via Stato adventure, and it was a good one. Anyone who knows me knows that I am very particular about my thin crust pizza, and so far (outside of Italy) Spacca Napoli is my go to place for the perfect thin crust pizza. I have to admit, I was fairly impressed by the pizza at Pizzeria via Stato, as well as the service. We got there around 6:30pm on Saturday night. We had called in advance to see if there was a wait, and they said there wasn't. We got there 10 minutes after we called and were told there was a 25 minute wait when we arrived. Odd that so many people supposedly arrived in those ten minutes, but it was a Saturday so I expected it to be busy. We had a play to attend at the Goodman Theater so we opted to eat at the bar. SO glad we did. We had the one of the coolest bartenders I have had the opportunity to talk to - Daniel. He was conversing in Italian with a gentleman that was sitting next to us, and it turns out he lived and studied in Italy for a few years. Very cool. He recommended the fonduta, roasted mushroom pizza, and the artichoke and local potato pizza. I was hesitant on the mushroom pizza, so he was nice enough to suggest making it half and half with the artichoke and potato. We also ordered the marghertia pizza. Let's start with the fonduta - this is some seriously good spinach and cheese dip. It's accented with a bit of truffle oil that takes it from wow to WOW! It's served with perfectly toasted crostini too. Next came out the pizzas. Margherita pizza was a disappointment. I found it bland and boring as if they poured a can of tomatoes onto the crust and sprinkled a bit of cheese and basil. I won't deny that it tasted fresh, but it was lacking any kind of flavor to make it memorable. Then came the roasted mushroom pizza and the artichoke and potato pizza...now these pizzas, VERY memorable! The crust is unlike any pizzas I have had in the past - very crispy and thin, almost like a cracker. Who ever thought of potato on pizza knew what they were doing. It sounds odd, but it makes a great combination and results in a very happy mouth. The flavors on these pizzas were just delicious. I don't even know how to describe it, just go try it!

I really thought this place was terrific. I usually loathe going to places in the tourist-laden downtown area, especially in the summertime, but I had a friend in from NYC, and that's where we randomly ended up (I realized halfway through ordering that bringing a New York City-dweller to a pizza joint in Chicago was risky to say the least). The pizza, though, is great. When they say thin crust, they mean THIN CRUST. Like, cheese and toppings piled on perfectly crisp tracing paper. The pizzas are considered "personal" pizzas - which is awesome, since I grew up with giant brothers stealing my food, rendering me averse to sharing. Also, they have a nice wine selection. Call me unsophisticated, but I'm always impressed when I order the cheapest wine on the menu, and they still bring it to me in one of those glasses as big your face with a sliver of a stem. I also remember having a Caprese salad (the ultimate test of an Italian restaurant, if you ask me), and it was incredible. Literally, my mouth just started watering at the recollection. Proof that State Street isn't always a shitshow.

Honestly, I rarely give 5 star reviews! (upon second thought, it looks as though i do, I've given a total of 19) It was by mistake that I stumbled on Pizzeria Via Stato, I eat at Quartino quite often and when they were too crowded, we crossed the street and decided to give this a whirl. I had the Pizza & Wine by the glass combo: Shitake Mushrooms, cheese and black truffle oil accompanied by a glass of Feres Grojean Pinot Noir. I was so impressed with this pairing, the wine was delightful and went exceptionally well with the truffle oil. My friend had the pepperoni and that pizza was also magnificent. JUST SO YOU ARE AWARE...I love European style, very, very thin crust pizzas. They use about 3 oz. of dough and only 3 oz. of cheese. If you are not a fan of very thin pizza, so thin it is crispy, you will not like this! The service was friendly, I like that they can wear jeans and the price is also really good. The wine was $11 a glass and $55 a bottle, that is a really fair price for such a nice wine.

Don't be fooled by the location- this is not just a touristy restaurant. Osteria via State itself is wonderful, but if you're looking for something a little less pricey, the pizzeria is great, too. The pizzas are amazing and the salads are equally as delicious. Great value, great wine list and a nice indoor & outdoor environment.

Had an early dinner at the bar. Service was terrific. The thin crust pizza was perfect. The roasted garlic appetizer was spot on. This is not Dominoes so don't expect some sloppy cheese laden pile of crap. This pizza is well crafted and wonderfully arranged.

I can't believe I've waited this long to review Pizzeria Via Stato. It is my favorite spot for fresh fantastic small plates. The problem is I love way to many items on the menu. To begin the bread is perfect- its got just the right amount of a crunch on the outside and soft fresh warmness on the inside - and its got this perfect saltiness to it. Next I'm in love with the olives- they are firm and have the best flavor. I also love the fonduta which is a hot pecorino cheese and spinach dip that comes out piping hot and is served with toasted chibatta. The caprese is also excellent- they use fresh hand pulled mozzarella and roasted tomatoes. On to salad's...my favrorite salads are the beet, the panzanella, and the chopped! Lastly my favorite pizza is the fennel which I feel the need to get every single time I go. They also have a good local beer selection and an excellent wine list. The Pizzeria is a great spot with attentive service and fresh tasty small plates!

Service is good, and the atmosphere is cozy. You are thrown in the section between the real restaurant (Osteria via Stato) and the lobby of the Embassy Suites Hotel, but you are closest to the bar and wood burning oven. But for $12 for a 10" pizza, it is hardly enough to get me full. The pizzas are incredibly thin and flimsy. The bf says it's "cracker" pizza. I've tried the potato pizza (couldn't really taste any potato, but the dill really gave it a kick), sausage (disappointed with the ground sausage which made it taste like a microwaveable pizza), and margherita (which my bf thought actually tasted good in "cracker" form). They also offer a few appetizers and salads. Beware: the salads are priced accordingly to their sizes (small!). My only suggestion would be to get the fonduta (spinach dip) - it'll fill you up since the pizza won't.

OH MY GOD AMAZING...Located adjacent to where I work I was dieing to try Osteria's pizza. Even though I'm not a fan of sausage I tried it anyways and it was fucking amazing. It really was better then any thin crust pizza I've ever had. It gives deep dish a good run for its money. As a concierge I am always asked for pizza places to go to and this is the place I will be sending my guests. Try it...you won't be disappointed. UPDATE: This place keeps getting better. I tried the mushroom pizza last night and it was unbelievable.

Everything here was good, though not a "wow" experience, so I'm going to give it 3 stars. The fonduta appetizer was delicious, to be fair. The pizza was good - I had the mushroom, onion, mozzarella and tomato sauce. The crust was super thin, and the ingredients were all tasty. We had some red wine with the meal as well, and I guess I feel like it was on the pricey side... but the blame for that could easily fall on my dining companion's shoulders, as he selected it. They don't do reservations for this part of the restaurant, but a walk-in was no problem on a Monday night. For the guys, as a heads up, to go to the Men's room you have to actually go through the hotel lobby next door, up some stairs and around some corner to get there - essentially, the restroom is located in Evanston. But the ladies room is perfectly close by. Our server was really good, and the ambiance in the dining area is nice. So overall, a good experience, but I would recommend La Madia over Pizzeria Via Stato, if someone asked me which pizza I thought was better.

Fell in love with the pizza here. If you're a thin-crust lover, then this is the place for you. The crust is paper thin and crispy. I'd recommend the margherita and the pepporini pizza. For desert, try the vanilla gelato..it's homemade and you can actually see the tiny vanilla beans inside. Mmmmmmm.

My absolute favorite place to go for wonderful crispy thin crust brick oven pizza. It's not that deep dish "chicago style" crap that's more like a casserole. They have a pizza special (monthly?) that's always worth noting, and my favorite pizza on the menu is the mushroom pizza. Mmm it even tastes great the next day (though it is soggy whenever I reheat it). The service every time I've gone has been unattentive, but the pizza makes up for it, and the food comes out quickly. There can be a wait, and fighting for a spot at the bar is brutal during these times. I usually go on an off time (before/after dinner rush any night of the week). They offer filtered water for free, either sparkling or still. The ambiance is nice--kinda loud and dimly lit. You can come in jeans or dressed nicer.

the crust is so thin and crisp it falls apart when you bit it. taste the wood firing. beets are great. Prosciutto white is DELICIOUS. Margarita pizza pretty good- hardly any cheese. 2 people can eat 1 pizza and not feel stuffed as it is practically like eating saltines- not filling but super tasty. Great atmosphere. Totally affordable despite what looks like a snazzy outside.

I'm thinking 3.5 stars on this one - I enjoyed a nice leisurely lunch at Pizzeria via Stato, consisting of the lentil soup, a potato pizza and a glass of wine. Service was excellent and the food was good. However, I just didn't feel like the pizza was worth the price. It left me slightly unsatisfied. I'm not normally willing to shell out $20+ for lunch for myself, and I gave Pizzeria via Stato a try only because I had a gift certificate. However, I will definitely be going back at least once...for I want to try one of their "red" pizzas, and they also have a bacon cocktail. Yes, you read that correctly. It's called a "baconcello." There's no WAY it could be bad...right?

i am bit confused as to which restaurant is the osteria and which is the pizzeria, but i am pretty sure i was in the pizzeria because i ate pizza. came here on a friday night and we were seated in about 25 minutes after a lovely glass of red at the bar. loved the spinach salad - we split 2 between the 3 of us and it was more than enough. and the pizza! thin, thin crust. fresh, delicious ingredients. we had the onion special pizza and the margarita and the onion was my favorite, so if they have that definitely order it. love the small, intimate, yet fun atmosphere. will definitely be back!

Less that half a block from the touristy Trevi Fountain in Rome is a dumpy joint that my travel companions and I swear was the best pizza we ever had. Going to Executive Chef David DiGregorio's Pizzeria Via Stato in Chicago is like going back to back to that spot (OK, maybe in taste if not in spirit). This casually placed barside sister to DeGregorio's excellent Osteria Via Stato is a winner. The place couldn't make a lousy pizza if they tried. The crust is thin and crispy with a hint of give and the tomato base on the red pizzas is tangy and rich yet thankfully modest in volume. My hands down favorite is the flavorful sausage (chef's homemade), but one can't go wrong with any of the red or white sauce 'zas and DeGregorio's Pizza of the Month never falters. During our last visit DeGregorio, a genuinely friendly guy who seems to love what he does, stopped by our table to see how our meal was going. And it's all priced right with a selection of excellent small plate starters. Bottom line: if you want to impress a date, take her to the spiffy Osteria Via Stato. But she's already into you, the Pizzeria should seal the deal.

Delicious pizzas with very cute and haughty hostess. She is cold and I like it. The beers are tasty. They have the basics +. The atmosphere is excellent though. Dark, moody, and open. Usually about $25 a head including 2 beers.

One of my favorite restaurants for pizza and Italian small plates. Easy to graze here with lots of options - even my picky kids can find something they like. Love their granita which changes flavors monthly. Recently, they added soup of day...everytime we have tried it, it was excellent. The wait staff is great (especially Dan) as are the bus boys. The managers check on you frequently making sure you have everything you need. Reasonable prices. Highly recommend it.

This is a great place to grab a quick lunch while enjoying some people watching on State Street. The menu is fairly small but nothing disappoints. The staff is always great and I can never drink more that 1/3 of my water before someone is there to fill it again. Highlights are the fondu and the sausage pizza!

Went here the other night for a lighter dinner. I didn't know that this was kind of a separate thing from Osteria Via Stato, although it is in the same restaurant. What is weird is that they have two menus and can only order from one or the other, depending on where you sit. I think the fancy Osteria section was in the sectioned off dining area inside. We sat outside, so it wasn't a big deal. We ordered the margherita and mushroom pizzas. The margherita was ok, not the best I have ever had, but did have fresh basil and a good flavor. I thought the mushroom one was definitely better. The special thing about the pizzas are how thin they are... like, cracker thin. I really liked that! However, since they are so thin, sometimes the edges got really burned. Overall, the pizzas were decent. Would definitely go back there for something light. Oh, my one complaint about the place... only one women's bathroom.

Last night, I tried this place out for the first time. I have wanted to try it out for awhile. We were seated promptly; however, then we were forgotten about as well as the table next to us. Management did a good job to rectify the situation once there was a complaint, and then everyone was extremely knowledgeable and friendly. We ordered olives, which were decent, and the caprese salad. I also ordered the recommended glass of wine, which I thought was a great choice, and then we split a margherita pizza and a potato pizza. The margherita was ok, I have had a lot better, but I loved the potato pizza. I was a bit skeptical because I am a normal don't play around too much with the pizza toppings kind of girl, but I thought the pizza tasted a lot like a baked potato and it also had the potential to be a great after an afternoon of drinking pizza. The bill also was very reasonable. I would go back for the potato pizza, but would probably walk to Quartino for other types.

We had the thin crust pizza - the Vegetarian. Awesome!! Seriously, the best thin crust pizza I have ever had. It's paper thin, has the right amount of sauce and toppings, is crisp on the edges, and soft inside. Just the way I like them. If you are not a big fan of deep dish pizzas (like me!) then this place is it!! The only reason I did not give it 5 stars, is that came out a little cold. Also, the salad, was nothing to write about - a bit too much dressing for my liking. Service is great, and the they have a decent patio.

With all of the gourmet pizza places popping up around the city, we decided to give this place a try. We were seated very quickly and the service was great. When they said that the pizza was thin crust Roman style though, they weren't kidding. My pizza was so thin that it kept falling apart while I was trying to eat it! It was just OK, so I'm not sure if I will be going back for seconds.

So good.

If you are a tourist do yourself a favor and get a delicious thin crust pizza at Pizzeria Via Stato. The service is great and the food delicious. Why stand in line for deep dish Uno's or Gino East when you can enjoy your food without the two hour wait.

Yum!

Everything else was just ok.

u can't beat the prices for downtown dining. the only odd thing is pizzeria via stato and osteria via stato are two different restaurants next to each other. personally i think it's very weird that u can't get both in one restaurant... what if your friend wants pizza and u want pasta? u have to split up into 2 parties or sit at the bar. we both ordered from the pizza menu and got to sit in osteria via stato anyway. the whole thing is very confusing. onto the food... we shared grilled octopus with fingerling potatoes. the potatoes were a bit on the mushy side but delicious as they were drenched in olive oil. i had the arugula salad with dates, parmesan, and bacon. oh mah gah. i don't normally like or eat dates but they were so delicious in the salad. balance of sweet and chewy with salty savory and fatty. my friend had the roasted beets salad. equally delicious and fresh. the pizza was just to my liking.

The general atmosphere is good. But, it's a pizzeria, and the pizza took FOREVER to come. And then it was so soggy it was difficult to eat - and I just ordered a margherita, not some weird pizza.

Ok, so... night number 8 in Chicago for work and only one day left...

Simply the best thin crusted pizza that I've ever had. The wine selection is phenomenal. The service is great.
