Diabetics at Pizza Hut

Pizza is neither a great meal nor the worst for diabetes. All you need is some fact check and monitoring while ordering your pizza. Diabetics can opt for thin crust or skinny pizza at Pizza Hut and avoid the cheese topping to cut down on the excess fat and sodium. If you have diabetes, then ensure to check your portion size when you order a pizza. One or max. two slices are enough. You can also avoid meat if possible and go for wings as a meat option.

Foods to Avoid at Pizza Hut for Diabetics:

You must avoid Meat Lovers Pizza with Original Pan Crust as it contains over 1000mg sodium and will add 470 calories in your meal. You should also skip Super Supreme Pizza Large Original Pan Slice which is too high in sodium and fat. Chicken wings are often tempting but you must control and restrict yourself from ordering Traditional Honey BBQ Bone-in Wings as it can add up to your sugar levels if you eat too many. On average, a person orders or consumes six chicken wings pieces in a day.

Sides must be avoided at all costs especially if it's Bacon Cheddar Fries with Ranch Dipping Cup for its high sodium content. You must also avoid New York Style Cheesecake with Applesauce as dessert as one slice of this dessert item contains 86g sugar. Pizza Hut also offers other Italian dishes such as Pasta. However, you must skip Spaghetti with Meat Sauce and Meatballs and Garlic Bread as it is too high in sodium and sugar.

Fast-food restaurants like Pizza Hut are not recommended to dine-in if you are diagnosed with high blood pressure. Most pizzas at Pizza Hut are high in sodium and hence you must stick to one or max. two slices of any regular size pizza to limit your sodium intake. Try out the salads as they are not only healthy but also keeps you full for a longer period. However, you must ensure that you don't order the salads without any extra dressing.

High Cholesterol at Pizza Hut

Whether large, medium or small, a pizza can boost your cholesterol levels instantly. You shouldn't eat more than one slice of any pizza your order at Pizza Hut. If you're concerned with your high cholesterol, then it is wise to take your friends to Pizza Hut and share pizza among them slice by slice. You can also try pasta at Pizza Hut but ensure that you are not adding any dressing or extra cheese as you order pasta.

Pizzeria Ora is provided me with two things the big names in Chicago pizzeria didn't, which were they were open late and they delivered. We got back to the hotel and I was hungry from drinking at the Aviary and the Office. It was like 12:30 AM and we were staying at the Hard Rock in the Loop. I gave them a quick call and they said they will be able to deliver. I made my order and they said it will be there in an hour which felt like an eternity. However, it wasn't too bad as I was entertained by my buddy who was drunk dialing every girl in his contact list. The best part of the conversation was when they were talking about religion and the girl on the phone said she wanted someone who believes in God. He replied back with the best line of all time, which was "I may not believe in God but I believe in love". I was laughing hysterically and could not stop for a good 10 minutes. I heard her say "Who's there? Are you drunk?" Now, that's game, son. Mack game too strong. Way too strong. Anyway, the pizza delivery guy arrived and I paid for the late night "snack." Now, the food. 1) Mozzarella Sticks - The mozzarella sticks came in a pack of six sticks and served with marinara sauce. The batter on the sticks was crispy and slightly salty. However, the mozzarella didn't taste fresh and it was really firm and didn't stretch as you bit into it then pulled it away. You didn't have the elastic appearance like Mister Fantastic. 2) Chicken Wings - The order came with 10 pieces of wings and I went with the mild version. I was drunk but I didn't want to feel the consequences the next day for ordering hot. As with most wings, it came with ranch sauce. The wings were definitely better than the mozzarella sticks. They were large, juicy, and tenderly succulent pieces of meat. The tangy mild sauce was a good touch and took me by surprise like Drake's Back To Back diss track. "Is that a world tour or your girl's tour? ...Yeah, trigger fingers turn to twitter fingers. You gettin' bodied by a singin' brotha...And shout-out to all my boss b*tches wife-in brothas" Still not a Drake fan but he owned Meek. 3) Supreme Deep Dish Pizza - We went with the medium and it took 45 minutes to prepare. It contained sausage, pepperoni, mushrooms, onions and green peppers. It was a pretty good size pizza and the alcohol definitely made it taste better. The salty and juicy pieces of sausage and pepperoni. The ripe mushrooms, onions and green peppers was a good addition to the pie. The crunch of the crust and the layers of ingredients made a perfect meal as I listened to my buddy still trying to spit game at 1:30 AM. Overall, the food was pretty good. However, I was pretty buzz so that could have been a major factor in the taste. Anyhow, I definitely enjoyed the pizza and chicken wings as a late night snack. Lastly, remember two things: I may not believe in God but I believe in love And shout-out to all my boss b*tches wife-in brothas

Ron from ATL is the man! Great service and food! We had half mushroom half double cheese and it was ridiculously off the chain! Good stuff

Great service, tasty wings, and decent pizza- not really a destination spot for pizza, despite the name, but the deep dish was decent. They also offer NY style. Crust itself is a bit plain, lacks flavor but they're generous with the toppings. 10 piece wings for $8 were large and meaty, with a nicely spicy sauce. Even though it's attached to a hotel, this spot is better than your usual hotel-restaurant. One guy did all of the service and bartending and managed to keep up without any difficulty working solo on a Saturday night, which was impressive. They do offer a Yelp check in deal for 10% off a medium size pie or larger.

I stayed for an overnight at the Best Western Plus at Ohio & LaSalle, ordered a deep dish supreme and a shrimp cocktail from room service. They said in 45-60 minutes and came in 40 minutes - very not bad, even though it was ordered around 9:30 pm. Shrimp cocktail was good, included a couple of lemon wedges and cocktail sauce - shrimp was tasty, not fishy or stale, seemed a bit small sized but included 7 or so pieces. Pizza was decent but not remarkable - crust was sorta a hybrid of Lou's deep dish crust and Giordano's stuffed crust, except not quite as tasty though the crispiness was good. Toppings included sausage, pepperoni, mushrooms, onion, and green pepper - had a nice tomato sauce on top with a decent amount of cheese. It won't be in my top 5 Chicago pizzas, but a decent pizza nonetheless. Since Gino's, Lou's, Giordano's, and Uno's are all close by, I'll go for those places instead. Ora's is not bad, but a decent choice if the other aforementioned places are closed for the night - Ora's will stay up a bit later, closing at midnight. I never dined on site at Pizzeria Ora, but from the pics, it also looks unremarkable. But I will hold judgment until I do visit personally. Oh, and there's a Rosati's in the other side of the block - I might rather go to Ora's for pizza, for a matter of comparison.

Pizzeria Ora is definitely a gem! If you enjoy a great deep dish pizza. Then this is your spot. The usual 40 minute wait is well worth it, when your pizza finally arrives you'll be very happy! I think the staff is excellent and the pizza they are serving is incredible!

Late night authentic deep dish pizza, I didn't get to try the town's big boy locations for this but if they are somehow better I would have cried on my plate. The red velvet cake was top notch as well.

I returned again for Friday night dinner. I arrived before my dining companion so I ordered a beer at the bar. $3.50 for Goose Island IPA bottles isn't bad at all for Chicago. We were also able to easily transfer the tab from the bar to the table with no hassle. I'm well aware that cooking a deep dish pizza takes 40 plus minutes. My friend ordered wings while we waited. He enjoyed them, I'm not a wing fan. Ora has some of the best pizza sauce I've ever had. It's a wonderful chunky tomato sauce. Admittedly the pizza crust is a bit bland, but the sauce makes up for it. Service here was excellent. I'll be back. They participate in Spring Rewards and occasionally offer Groupon deals.

In all honesty I didn't expect too much from this place but I ended up being pleasantly surprised! It's attached to the Best Western that we stayed at (though separately run I think) and I guess the most that I was hoping for was that it wouldn't suck and be a decent option if I was too lazy to venture far from the hotel one night. Now I can't promise that I would come back if I didn't stay at the same place again (after all, there are SOOOO many other pizzerias I didn't get a chance to try) but certainly will if I'm at the Best Western again and be happy to do so (and if I'm lazy). So on our first night in the city my wife was pretty beat and ready for bed after a lot earlier than I was, even though I'm the one who drove the whole eight plus hours! Maybe I was too excited to sleep. So I've got to find something to do for an hour or so before I'm even considering bedtime and I'm at Pizzeria Ora before you know it! My first dinner wasn't enough and I'm in a hurry to try local pizza, so why not? It was a bit late for deep dish and I didn't want to wait 45 minutes (not to mention this was my second dinner) so I go with a small thin crust, tomatoes, onions and garlic...stinky, I know! It was about 10:30 on a Sunday night so the place wasn't exactly humming (it was me and one other guy at the bar when I walked in) and you never know what you're going to get at that hour, but it was actually one of the better pies I've had in quite a while. Good cheese, good dough, good sauce, good toppings...good pizza! After that and a couple of pints I was finally ready for a good night's sleep and only felt a little guilty for ditching my wife in search of pizza and beer! So I'm only rating the place based on ordering my meal / snack from the bar during the most off-peak time possible (the bartender was so bored that he was drinking, too!) but that's enough to give it a solid recommendation. After all, what more is there to life than simply enjoying a hot pizza and some cold beer? Exactly.

Thin crust pizza was great but it was probably because I was starving after waiting 1 hour and 45 minutes for it to be delivered!

  • Liz M.

The pizza here is great and comparable to more famous restaurants but without the hassle. The white pizza has excellent pesto! Service is friendly, personal and quick! And you can't go wrong having your Duvel poured by Walid!

  • Daniel N.

Chicago deep dish pizza was subpar, especially when compared to their big name competitors like Lou Malnati's, Gino's East, Giordano's and Pizano's. Service was friendly but nothing special. We ordered half/half toppings, they charged us for all the individual toppings, didn't let us know upfront and weren't willing to remove the extra charges. The atmosphere is lacking.

Ordered delivery on a Sunday night after most places were closed and it was delivered quickly and is reasonably priced. I ordered stuffed jalapeños, because I do not eat pizza without jalapeños either on top or as a side, it was probably my fault for ordering fried food in a carry out, but they were not great. The deep dish was good for any deep dish lovers. I will personally order the thin crust next time, I forgot how doughy and heavy and deep dish can be.

  • Mason E.

Great place for a casual lunch or dinner. Pizza is on par with other deep-dish style chains and the atmosphere is similar to a local family-style restaurant. The deep-dish supreme pizza was excellent and the starter salad was generous. Would recommend for a casual meal with friends! Very reasonably priced drinks.

This is a pretty decent hotel restaurant. We stopped in for some beers and snacks upon check in. I also enjoyed a couple of hotel breakfasts here. The people were nice and the food was pretty good. It's a better option than fast food or something expensive. Could have been cleaner, but it wasn't terrible. Just some tables that weren't cleared in time, etc.

Ordered a cheese pizza with pineapple for carry out last night. My first time trying a pineapple pizza and I must say it was delicious. The cheese on their pizza was phenomenal and I would recommend this place to everybody.

Came here with some friends to use a four person groupon and it was a nice place for a mini reunion. The place was empty, which maybe isn't surprising for 7 pm on a Tuesday, and the service was pleasant and attentive. They had some beer specials in which we indulged and then ordered a couple of thin crust pizzas. We had the Hawaiian and the El Blanco, a white pizza with feta, pesto, and tomatoes. I quite enjoyed both of them and wouldn't mind a return visit, though admittedly, it probably wouldn't jump to mind when thinking about where to go for pizza. Good, but not amazing enough to be memorable with so many other pizza places around.

I didn't like this place at all. The food took a very long time to make. (40 mins, or the way we were counting two trains). Once we got the food it was not good but I was starved and scarfed it down anyways. Even though we were staying in the Best Western that it was connected to we went there once and learned our lesson. A quote from my friend to summarize this experience: "We could have gotten this nasty shit delivered to our room for all this."

  • Ryan D.

What's great about this place is how late you can order a deep dish pizza at night. I was staying at the Howard Johnson hotel which is a few blocks up on LaSalle st. in February during the blizzard of "Chiberia" which made traveling quite a bit difficult at the time. Luckily for me I found Pizzeria Ora's menu at the hotel and thought to myself oh what the hell, let's order pizza at midnight!! The staff was very friendly and the lady processing the take-out orders on the phone was professional & courteous. When I arrived the pizza was ready on time and the bartender seemed like a really good pal, so I had a friendly chat with him about Chicago for a bit. Hint: Don't be shy to chat with him folks! He's a good conversationalist. Anyways, I got back to my room at the hotel and all I have to say is wow! The pizza is delicious! So if you're staying at Best Western or Howard Johnsons on LaSalle, be sure to check out Pizzeria Ora when you're in Chicago.

  • Lauren B.

Not bad, not great. Thin crust pizza was ok, mozzarella sticks were decent, the beer battered chicken tenders saved the night. Delivery was quicker than GrubHub said, so I can't complain about the place. The pizza just wasn't up to par with so many other Chicago pizza joints.

  • Nick B.

Held an event here with 32 people. Staff was great, pizza was some of the best. If you live in chicago or are just visiting I would for sure check it out.

This is a good place to order delivery from. The restaurant itself isn't worth going out of your way for but the thin crust pizza is solid and a lot less expensive than places like Pizanos.

Last Friday night we ordered the deep dish Hawaiian pizza, as it was recommended, by other yelpers. It was the worst pizza I have ever consumed in Chicago. It was bland and the crust was tasteless, dry and hard as a rock. It hardly had any ham on it at all. Matter fact it was mostly CANNED pineapple. Really? Don't eat the deep dish pizza at this place! There is no love in the recipe. The raspberry cheesecake was also old and watery. We did pickup.

Cheap eats are hard to come by in the downtown area but Pizzeria Ora sells pizza by the slice for only $2.50 in downtown Chicago - your choice of deep or thin crust. Ora gets overshadowed by the big chains but it's worth visiting if you are close by or work in the area. For its location, it's actually the only place that I have found that sells deep dish pizza by the slice. It's ideal if you need something quick for cheap. Unfortunately, all of the major Chicago chains like Giordano's, Gino's East, Uno's, and Loumalnati's make you order a whole pizza for deep dish and it can take a while. It's a shame that downtown Chicago doesn't have more places that sell by the slice like in New York. The sauce is a little sweet but the crust was buttery with the right amount of cheese. For the price, it's a great deal in comparison to downtown prices. Great for lunch!

For a hotel bar it'll leave a lot to be desired but the service was fast and friendly from the bartender, the club sandwich I ordered was actually pretty decent and didn't break the bank, they had Honker's on special and their thin crust pizza isn't terrible. I wouldn't go as far as to call this place a pizzeria but it is what it is. It's definitely quiet and chill here and if you want to sit and do your own thing there's little distraction.

The deep dish pizza was not good. The dough tasted like it was made from bisquick mix. The tomato sauce was something other than right. Very disappointed.

This place can satisfy your craving but you can do much better in Chicago. I ordered delivery so maybe that is the reason. I came home from work and wanted something quick and easy and this came up in google. I figured what the heck - but unfortunately was not impressed. I would look to other options.

I came here with a $5 off $25 coupon while visiting Chicago for the weekend and got a bit lost on the way there from the Magnificent Mile. The restaurant was completely empty except for 1 family of 4 so we got seated right away. The waiters were really nice and attentive, and they warned us that the deep-dish pizzas would take about 45 minutes. My mom had never tried a deep-dish pizza in Chicago before so we ordered a medium Hawaiian deep dish along with the chicken wings appetizer. The BBQ wings were delicious, smothered in sauce, and came with ranch dipping sauce and raw celery and carrots. We had enough for the 3 of us there and then we eagerly awaited the deep-dish pizza. Luckily the TV was showing Olympic rhythmic gymnastics...so we tried to pass the time by watching the gymnasts compete with hula-hoops. While we were waiting, a "pizza tour" group of 15 people wandered into the restaurant and sat nearby to try a piece of pizza and to discuss pizza trivia. They somehow got their food before we did, but perhaps they'd called the restaurant ahead of time. The pizza did arrive about 45 minutes after we ordered, and the sauce and toppings were rich and yummy. Unfortunately, the crust was dry and didn't have any hint of flavor or salt...so I just ate all the non-crust parts of the pizza. Overall I enjoyed the pizza but I wish the entire crust was fluffier/softer and more flavorful. We got really good service though!

Damn...I was tricked into this one. Needed food in a hurry. Attempted to spark nostalgia at Gino's East but the wait was too long. So, I decided to roll the dice for a quick slice, since this place was just around the corner. This place is attached to the Best Western Plus on Ohio St. The ambiance was crap, but ambiance has no bearing on the quality of a pizza pie. All I can say is that I am completely blown away that a business can exist in downtown Chicago selling sub-standard pie. Inexcusable! I've had some of the best pie in the Chi, but this time no dice.

I had hoped to find a good pizzeria within walking distance of my home...I'm still searching. I truly think the pizza is DiGiorno's that they doctor up a little bit. The pizza I ordered, (small with extra cheese and pepperoni) was average at best and seemed to come from frozen, pie-shaped dough. When it came I noticed there was no pepperoni on it so I called over a server. She peered at the pie and after about 8 seconds pointed to one piece of pepperoni and said, "there it is", smiled and walked away. There were at most 5 small pieces of pepperoni. The service was friendly but the pie? I would give it a miss...especially since they have "Pizzeria" in their name!

Met a friend here on a Friday night during Lollapalooza. Staff was more than friendly and the food was excellent and very affordable. We used a Restaurant.com coupon and our server helped us so we would meet the $37.50 minimum order. Will definitely return for another great experience :)

One of the best pizza places in Chicago. Period. A group of friends and I were out in Chicago for the weekend for a convention. After attempting to get into one of the more famous pizza joints in the area for around an hour, we finally stumbled upon Pizzeria Ora. Other restaurants in the area had waiting times of two hours plus, and some were just straight up rude to customers waiting. As soon as we entered Ora, we knew that hour had been a waste of time. First of all, the customer service is the best I have probably ever had in a restaurant, ever. The drink menu's limited, but we weren't there to drink, anyway! I ordered a dirty martini, even though I doubted they could accommodate me, but it'd been a long night. The bartender tried to make one the best he could with what was on hand, and I was encouraged to send it back if it wasn't good enough. We had such a hilarious time with the waitress and staff, trying to figure out how to create this martini, that it wouldn't have mattered how it turned out! The pizza was delicious, and perhaps the best I've had in Chicago. Skip the other restaurants, and start your pizza tour here!

I came to Chicago expecting the best deep dish pizza I've ever had. I arrived late on a Sunday night, and the hotel where I was staying had a flyer for Pizzeria Ora. I ordered from them since they were open (for delivery) late, which I appreciate. I got a deep dish cheese pizza and a salad. The salad was mediocre, and frankly, the pizza was as well. I didn't eat the crusts, which says a lot, because I LOVE a really good crust. There wasn't enough tomato sauce on the pie either. Satisfied my hunger, but I'll skip this one next time.

Pizzeria Ora is one of the great Chicago deep-dish pizza places. The service was fast and friendly (as fast as deep-dish pizza can be), and you are enjoying your meal in a casual pizza joint that feels familiar from the moment you walk in. Order a beer and a pizza and you'll enjoy a great meal!

Very convenient (I was staying at the Best Western). However, the thin-crust pizza could have used more flavor and the crust wasn't cooked well. The salad was pretty bland (ice burg lettuce) but the dressing (house) was excellent. All-in-all, very convenient when you're staying at the Best Western and it's pouring rain, but not the best choice otherwise.

"Best Deep Dish Pizza I've ever had". This place is right across from the Rock & Roll Mcdonalds and every time I'm in Chicago I stop here. The atmosphere inside is perfect for me to relax and enjoy the great tastes. I would recommend this place to my friends. If you haven't been there then you are missing out on some great food...and people.

One star. Based mostly on how we felt ripped off. Myself, husband and another family of four stayed at the hotel of which Pizzeria Ora shares the building. Our room was not ready so we decided to go to the restaurant to wait and have a small bite and some beverages. It was about 2 pm and no one was in there. It took about 10 minutes from being seated to the guy taking our drink order. He was the only worker it appeared. I saw him several other times during our stay and I think he is the owner or manager. Anyway not the least bit friendly. We told him we just wanted something small before our rooms were ready, so he was aware we were guests of the hotel. My husband and I were the only ones eating and we ordered appetizers, the nachos and some mac n cheese bites. My kids had lemonade, I had a beer as did my hubby and one other adult. The other two kids and one adult had nothing. I know this is a pizza place, so don't expect awesomeness from the rest of the menu, right? But we knew we didn't want to eat or wait for a pizza. The food we got was small in portion. The nachos were not edible. About 15 stale nacho chips covered in way, way too much cheese. They even put their 'pico' under the cheese so it was warm and gross. No beans as the menu stated there would be. I didn't eat them, for fear all that cheese grease would ruin my first night in Chicago via my guts. My husband ate them just to hurry us out of there to get our rooms. We ate the mac n cheese bites, all 5 of them between me and my kids. Our food took about 20 minutes to get to us. The guy did not check on us but to take the plates and get the bill. Did not ask how the food was. Ok, now this is where the one star really shines. Our bill had an 18% gratuity added automatically. Even though only 2 appetizers were ordered. Even though 3 of the people were not eating and merely seated with us that were eating. Even though he knew we were staying at the hotel and may come back to eat there. On top of it he was not friendly at all and I know he knew he served us some crappy food. Our friend was hungry one night and got a deep dish from there out of convenience. I did try a piece and it was not that great. We ate at Gino's as well and it was much more flavorful. Ora's sauce was bland, crust had no flavor or desired texture. None of us finished a slice and we tossed it in the trash. I travel frequently. In the past 5 years I have been to Vegas several times, Toronto, Orlando, Tampa, L.A., and live in Metro Detroit. I can't say I have ever been that insulted as a guest in a restaurant. I tip well enough, always 15%, even if the service is poor-and very often much more than that. I like to feel welcome when I am in a different town and the service industry is a vital part in creating that for visitors. I can't respect an establishment that does not respect its guests.

I ordered the orachas and thin crust pizza.... I thought the orachas were delicious. Perfect amounts of cheese, beans and chips. Not to mention the sides of guac, sour cream, etc. I thought it was a big amount for less than $6. The pizza itself was just A-OK. Perfect description...nothing special. We had pepperoni and olives. The sauce was sweet and good. Overall, still on the lookout for the perfect thin crust pizza in Chicago....the hunt continues.

Very good and consistent! The man behind the bar is very nice and always gets our orders correct. We eat out from there once a week, great calamari and thin crust!

After a scorching-hot Day 1 of our visit to Chicago, my friend and I (from Ottawa and Toronto, respectively), decided to cool off indoors and knock off another item on our Chicago bucket-list: deep dish pizza. This place was just mere blocks from our hotel, which was fine by us. It was actually pretty empty when we got here, which made finding seating a snap. Our server was (obviously) prompt and helpful when we had questions. I ordered a basket of calimari (holy crap, ENORMOUS) and a deep dish pizza. And the verdict on the pizza? ... Meh. Both of us thought it was okay. It just felt like we were eating lots of tomato sauce in a bowl made of bread. And I found it a bit challenging to cut when I was eating it. That aside (I think I'll have thin-crust next time), the experience was fine.

Chicago pizza at its mediocrity. Nothing bad, or special here, just decent grade Chicago style pizza. If you're a local I would recommend stopping by in order to take advantage of the Groupon, but if you're a tourist, you should consider elsewhere. Your first experience with Chicago style pizza should be a little more special. Aside from the pizza, they do have a decent wine selection, and some great garlic bread for appetizers.

The pizza was okay. There's better deep dish to be had in the city. The crust is what got me most. It's very dry. The service was pretty bad and I can't even attribute that to a busy restaurant. We were seated and ordered a medium deep dish before the group of 15 behind us ordered multiple deep dish pizzas. We were then ignored for over an hour. We had no drinks and no pizza. Finally one of us went to the bar to ask about it and our pizza conveniently "just popped up." All things considered, I might go back if a friend requested it because the pizza was ok but I won't go out of my way to stop in again.

Started at Lou Malnati's, but did not want to wait in that touristy spot. Walked and ran into Pizzeria Ora. Had great service and excellent deep dish pizza. Felt so much more relaxed than at the overly busy other place.

Went to touristy places on my first trip to Chicago, never again. Then I found this place in lobby of Best Western. And been coming since then. Easy going atmosphere, quiet bar where one can always find a spot. Pizza is very good, decent beer and wine selection. In the same family for years and one of the owners is always there, a good way to run a business. A lot of customers come from the hotel, wish more people would find it. Def will be back.

Ordered pizza for delivery after reading good reviews on Yelp, and Zagat. The pizza was OK, not that good though. For thin crust pizza, many Chicago pizzeria are much better, I'd go to Lou's next time. Don't recommend.

I love pizza. If you are what you eat, I am a walking pizza. This place is seriously underrated. The deep dish pizza is some of the best in Chicago. This place has been a couple of blocks away from Uno for years, so obviously the people in the neighborhood agree. This is a walk in and pick up your pizza to go kind of place. You aren't coming here for the ambiance. Actually, I never see anybody eating there. So, if you like pizza and don't want to wait in line with the tourists, go to this pizza place and pick up a pie. To go.

Found this place by accident. Maybe we don't know Chicago pizza (we're from CA), but my daughter and I found the Hawaiian quite tasty...one of the best we've eaten. We ate at three other pizza places in the downtown area while visiting. This was by far the best. We'd definitely go back. Not a lot of ambiance, (it was actually very quiet and sort of dark midday), but the man behind the bar provided good service.

  • Mel L.

Came here with a Groupon, and it met my expectations. The restaurant is very low key, what you would imagine a pizzeria to be. Got the deep dish Hawaiian pizza and it was delicious! Also had $3.50 Sam Adams bottles which is a good price for the city. The servers were attentive. I would recommend it for a low key night out...just realize it's not a super trendy place so if you're looking for somewhere to see and be seen this isn't the place.

If I were rating them on their calamari, they would be getting 4 stars, but I went for the pizza. Unfortunately, Pizzeria Ora does not meet up with the big boys of deep dish pizza in Chicago. Although Pizzeria Ora's pizza is tasty, I did not appreciate that most of its depth was dough. I was looking for more cheese and toppings. The decor and ambiance could have been a little nicer, as well.

Ordered the Salmon fillet dinner. The Salmon was over cooked, dry and hard. The vegetables were bland and could have been cooked longer however the rice is cooked perfectly and very good and the delivery was on time. However I didn't pay $25 for rice. I was looking forward to some good Salmon and was really let down.

Maybe I missed something the other yelpers did, but this pizza was not very good. I got a deep dish supreme for carryout. Ever leave your cheap jarrred spaghetti sauce on the burner too long? The sauce overcooks, breaks down, and tastes almost bitter. That's exactly what this $25 pie tasted like. Sorry, can't forgive a pizza place for that. Toppings were generous, crust was okay, cheese was okay, and service was prompt as promised, but the sauce......eeeeew.

chill spot. sauce is sweeter than i like my deep dish to be. but still pretty good food and nice staff

Good friendly service. Sub par pizza. The crust is too thick and dry. Like a grocery store card board pizza. Too much to pay for such blah pizza.

Ordered Pizza Ora for delivery on a Sunday night. We ended up getting chicken tenders and the chicken wings. The tenders were soggy and the dipping sauces did not taste good. The wings really didn't have a taste. Overall not good and would never order again.

This is the go to pizza at my new office/job. Never had it before, but the thin crust is great. I'd definitely recommend it for an office party/reward over any Giordano's or Malnati's. Way better than those two overrated puke festivals.

This is a another review where I semi-begin by writing "For Chicago". For Chicago, Ora has above average thin crust pizza. Crisp crust, fresh toppings, and flavorful sauce. The mozzarella cheese was average. We ordered jalapeno poppers which seemed to be the same as the ones you'd buy at Costco. My friend asked for a side of ranch dressing and we were charged for it. I think that was lame. Our server was very nice and prompt. I had a restaurant.com certificate so I'd go back if I had another one. Actually I do so I guess I am. If anyone else wants one for less, then PM me.

Very disappointing. I was told by a friend that their pizza is to die for, but I can't agree. I felt like I was eating uncooked dough with melted cheese. This is conveniently located down the street from me, but sadly I will not be ordering pizza from here again!

  • Larah K.

This is a good, solid pizza place, but only order it delivery or take-out. The atmosphere in the restaurant is really lacking. It's very stark and generic, when it could play up its place in Chicago pizza history. It needs a little pizza pizzaz (ha!). Go for their deep dish. It's really great. Their thin crust, not so much. Subscript: Pizza is a major preference-driven thing in Chicago. I prefer Lou Malnatis. You may prefer this place, who knows.

    (3)
  • Moe f.

Pizza was OK tasting. But the crust was dry and flavorless. And their XL is only 16" which barely was enough for 3 adults and a toddler. In a great pizza town like Chicago, this isn't cutting it.

    (2)
  • Austin D.

Quiet and small restaurant with great staff. Call ahead so that your pizza is done when you get there, Deep dish takes 45min, like usual. I regularly order the large deep dish, it is a savory/sweet corn meal and beer batter crust, that is not as doughy and thick as most, but sure tastes a lot better. If you want to avoid the tourists, but your looking for a real slice of Chicago pie this is the perfect spot. The atmosphere is clean and simple as one might expect since it is a hotel restaurant and bar, no frills, but you shouldn't be disappointed.

    (4)
  • Jason W.

This was an off the beaten path place, it is actually a hotel bar. The ambiance stinks of the '70's. But the pizza was very tasty and I enjoyed it. No long waits, no crowds, I just wanted Chicago style pizza and I go it.

    (4)
  • Sam K.

I went back here the other night with a friend, and the pizza was *so* much better. The crust was still dry, but now it tastes better, and I can see that the slightly crisp crust is their pizza style. I took home the leftovers, and since i like a more moist crust, it tasted even better a few hours laterm reheated, I'd come again.

  • Mill V.

It tasted like a Gino's East rip off. From the first bite, it was an attempt to try to battle with them. From the sauce to the crust, they are not on par. It was just "ok". Better than Giordano's, but isn't anything better than them? Go up north and just got to Gino's East.

I've had two occasions to try Ora and both times I had their deep dish. Their website says they are a traditional Chicago deep dish pizza but, the pizza in front of me, looks stuffed (Ever notice how some pizzas, both stuffed and deep dish almost look the same, know the differences?). Potato / potatoe, I guess. For the two times I tried the pizza the sauce was consistent, having a sweet flavor. It was good pizza at the times. Both times I'd been looking for street parking and out of exhaustion, desperation for food and placement nearby, is what caused my visits. LOL, plus I can't pass up pizza, if it's there I'm willing to try it. This is Chicago! Consistent with good service and taste, although the overall pizza is just standard. Good at the time, but not something I'd go out of my way for. Due to the location, it's never so busy that you would have to wait for a table, at least that's how it was when I went. Tables were readily available.

Ok, full disclosure, I'm biased a bit because Walid, the owner, is a good friend of mine dating back to 2000, when I lived in FL and did business in Chicago. This hotel was my home away from home then, and Walid's service to myself and my coworkers is and always will be the best. When my boss and I would land at Ohare, we'd phone him from the rental car lot and he'd have a midnight dinner waiting for us at the bar when we'd check in.... that's service. I absolutely love their thin crust pizza. Walid taught me how to make a martini years ago and ever since, people rave about how good I make them. Great place, drop in and tell him Jeff sent you.

We came here with a lunch reservation for a co-worker's birthday. We pre-ordered over the phone to make more use out of the lunch break, but when we got there... they didn't even have the order ready. 1) They lost our reservation 2) They lost our order Other than that, the pizzas were very good. We had 3 pizzas: veggie, sausage and pepperoni.

And here's to yet another riveting River North lunch adventure. I hadn't taken a lunch break all week. Work had been consuming my life and it was time to say EFF OFF and go to lunch with my ladies. We decided to stop in for the lunch special. Everyone at my office talks it up so I shrugged and thought-- "WHY NOT!?" You choose a soup or salad and combo it up with either a 6'' deep dish or 9'' thin crust. All for under 7 bones! After minutes of indecisiveness and muh friend askin' "so, how big is 9 inches" and me replying "oh about the size of *fill in the blank's* weeeeee" we decided on the NINER and soup. I went with the cream of mushroom. Comforting. All I wanted with it was a bread bowl and my bed. The pizza was nothing out of the ordinary but satisfying. We walked outta there with leftovers to snack with at our desks and happy tummies. The service was a bit lacking-- s.l.o.w. I mean, we're on our lunch here! Also, the atmosphere was just awkward. So quiet. The whole restaurant could hear all our inappropriate girl talk. Ppppsshhh. I'll be back. The lunch special is too delish and tasty to pass up and of course it's just across the street from my office.

My colleagues and I have been traveling to Chicago for a decade and a half and have tried all the famous deep dish pizza places in the city. Not only do we like Ora's pizzas the best, we find the service to be unparalleled. The owner, Walid, always treats us like family, even though we only visit once a year. Great food, great value, and great people. I highly recommend Pizzeria Ora.

My wife suggested this place for dinner as we were both craving pizza that Friday night. I met her after work and we headed out. I started thinking about where this place was. River North + Friday night = a ridiculously long wait. I started getting crabby and very irritated just thinking about it. We walked in the place and I realized that all of my crabbiness and irritation were all for naught. The place was only about 25% full on a Friday! The decor here is really no frills, nothing flashy but and not even the most comfortable. Our server actually seemed genuinely pleased to wait on us (probably because thee was hardly anyone else in the joint) She did an excellent job of taking good care of us. We ordered a fried appetizers, which was pretty much fried appetizers. What more can you really say about them? They adequately did the trick and satisfied us until our highly anticipated Hawaiian pizza came out. My expectations for the pizza were not the greatest, I have never heard of this place and it was only 25% full on a Friday, so that kind of biased my initial opinion. My mind was completely changed when the pizza arrived. It was very good. the crust was outstanding and it had a good amount of toppings. I feel that this place put out as good of a pie as anyplace else in the city. That is saying quite a bit with all of the options available in Chicago!

Best place to go for deep dish in River North. All the tourists and suburbanites go to Uno's or Gino's East and wait in line for hours amidst crowds of whining kids and drunken slobs. Go here and actually find a table or sit at the bar and have a beer. The owners are really great people too.

We had dinner at Pizzeria Ora under the most difficult of circumstances and ended up delighted by our deep dish dinner and more. We were staying at the attached Best Western hotel that evening, but didnt arrive until after 11pm from San Francisco because our flight had been diverted to Milwaukee and was hours late. We were disappointed that the "fancy" restaurant where we held a long-standing reservation was no longer open and felt both resigned and lucky when we learned that the kitchen at Ora would be open until midnight. Our deep dish pizza order was going to take over a half hour to prepare and we were exhausted, hungry and thirsty. Ora's tall margaritas did the trick as did a comfort food "fried mac and cheese" appetizer with a wonderful marinara sauce--more on that below. When the pizza arrived it was everything we could hope for--piping hot and crusty with a rich tomatoey sauce, spicy pepperoni and the gooiest of cheese toppings. Our waiter "Freud" kept close watch over us and answered our questions about their terrific tomato sauces--the marinara we had with our appetizer, the deep dish sauce and a third sauce reserved for their thin crust pizza. One pizzeria, three sauces--we knew that this was serious pizza business. We were so enamored with the rich and thick marinara sauce, redolent with aroma, peppers, onions and seasonings that we asked if we might be able to get the recipe. Freud didn't know about that--but did indicate that if we returned in the morning the owner Walid would be present and he was certain that he would "take care of us." Walid couldn't have been friendlier or more helpful--or happier to hear how much we liked his sauces. He truly took pride in them and in the hours spent in their making. While he was reluctant to part with their recipe (understandable trade secrets) he told us that he would prepare some for us to take home the next morning. That he did--offering up two large containers, about a half gallon each, one for us and our travelling companion. And he charged us virtualy nothing for them--surely less than the ingredients alone would have cost. So we had a wonderful souvenir of our time in Chicago and at Pizzeria Ora to take back home with us to Columbus, Ohio--where we have since enjoyed the wonderful marinara sauce with two different fresh pasta dinners as well as using it as an upscale "salsa". And we know where we'll be going to dinner when next in Chicago.

Not a great dining experience. I work in the area and eating lunch here isn't a great idea - the prices are great (especially for the lunch specials) but it tastes like the secret ingredient is depression. Both the thin crust and stuffed pizza resemble the Giordano's style (substantive crust, very cheese-heavy), but I find the sauce's flavor a little lacking. You've got plenty of options for pizza in the area - Lou Malnati's, Gino's East, and Rosati's are all within two blocks (personally I prefer Geno's) - this place is a decent option if you want to avoid the crowds, but on the absolute scale of pizzas in Chicago, this one ranks pretty low on the list.

Hmm... Ordered 2 pizzas online for delivery. It took about an hour and fifteen minutes for our pizza to be delivered. After taking a bite to what should have been a delicious deep dish, I can automatically tell that they use canned ingredients. Considering that I just moved here and had deep dish pizza one other time at Pizzeria Due, it is safe to say that I will not be eating here again. It's unfortunate because they are literally 4 blocks away.

  • Helena D.

On occasions, when I have a craving for pizza, I will order from Pizzeria Ora. They do not scalp you for toppings and their delivery service is prompt and courteous. Their deep dish pizza may as well have weighed like a set of encyclopedia. After one slice, you'll have your fill of deep dish...and full of buttery crisp pizza crust which is good when eaten fresh, but it becomes extremely brittle and hard when microwaving. Beware, if you order one of the specialty pizza that has green peppers and/or onions, you'll get A LOT of them. There is room for improvement on the seasoning and their meats but definitely try it out.

I have eaten here twice. Once as a hungry suburbaner, and most recently as a tipsy chicagoan. Both times I had thin crust pizza and both times were equally amazing! The place itself is absolutley nothing special inside, but if you ever find yourself in that area do yourself a favor and skip past the nasty overpriced touristy places and get yourself some yummy yummy zza!

Love it!! Great thin and Deep, HUGE WINGS and just traditional Italian. Delivery is always fast (West Town is far for them) and they have never mixed up an order in 5 years!!! Can't recommend it enough. Love it as much as piece, but it a different more authentic style Chicago pizza.

We just love this place! Being Chicagoans, we must have driven by this gem a million times but just never stopped in. On a recent Pizza Tour, we had the opportunity to try Pizzeria Ora's deep dish pizza, and needless to say, we're hooked! Great salads & appetizers as well. It's in a great location (across the street from Rock 'n Roll McDonald's) and has a wonderful, friendly staff! Try this place out, it won't disappoint! OPEN LATE! And don't forget to say hello to Walid! He's usually behind the bar!

Pizzeria Ora is tucked away on the side of the Best Western River North. There are a zillion pizza places in Chicago, and this one is rather anonymous. The interior has the vague look of a sports bar. Surprisingly, the thin-crust taco pizza here is pretty good. The other types of pizza are OK but you can do better as far as Chicago-style pizza.

  • Alex K.

I met my dad here for lunch the one day I spent in Chicago; I wanted to try a new place (not Giordano's/Gino's/Uno's), and we had to stay close to his office. We each had an individual deep dish; I had the el blanco and he had a regular pizza. I liked the ingredients in mine -- the pesto, garlic, and pine nuts mixed really well in the cheese. Unfortunately, the crust on my individual-size pizza was very dry and tasteless. Perhaps in a larger size, it would be really good. (My dad said his was pretty bland, but I didn't try it.) After some thought, I'm going with three stars. I wouldn't put it on my "If you're visiting Chicago" list, but if I were hungry and walking by I wouldn't mind stopping in again and trying the el blanco in a larger thin crust.

Excellent cream of broccoli soup. Decent personal deep dish pizza. $6.95 for both on Tuesdays, including taxes, as of the date of review. Fantastic service and an uncrowded clean space. I'm a fan.

El Blanco, thin crust. DO IT. It's cheesy, just-salty-enough, buttery-crusted goodness.

If you don't want to wait in line at some of the more touristy deep dish pizza joints around this area in River North, but still want delicious Chicago-style 'za, take a gander at this hotel bar/restaurant. 45 minute wait for Chicago-style ... keep that in mind. & they're filling pizzas ... order some garlic bread to satiate your appetite if you must during the wait, but make sure you save room for the yummy cheesy tomato goodness.

Pizzeria Ora has pretty good thin crust delivery. I've ordered it twice now and it has far superior to other delivery I've had in the city. The sauce tastes good and they don't put too much cheese on it. This is my reliable pizza delivery place from now on.

I had to wait to pick my cats up from anti cruelty from having them fixed so my mom and I discovered this place and it was a good discovery. I tried the pizza there and it was very good. We had the buffalo wings and they were very meaty and delicious. However my mom ordered the Italian beef and didn't like it very much. It was too tough and thick cut. It was probably more like a pot roast sandwich or a roast beef sandwich. Italian beef is supposed to be thinner sliced than what they served. The service overall was excellent. The waiter was great. I would definitely come back here but not for the Italian beef.

Yeah I will have to agree with most, Meh. Experienced better. The sauce is actually really tasty. Very tasty. The cheese and the toppings were normal. The crust is what makes or breaks the pizza. It was ok, nothing spectacular. It seemed like it was already made dough. Very much like frozen pizza crust. The service was great, really nice guy. The rating is mostly on the pizza.

Whether for delivery or eating in the restaurant, Pizzeria Ora is a great place to go for pizza. There doesn't ever seem to be a wait for the dining room, and the staff is always friendly. They have great sauce and fresh ingredients, though their salads are sometimes heavy on the iceberg lettuce. It's the only place I'll order from!

I think just about anytime I visit my brother, he get delivery from here. It is delicous, for me it is one of the best pizzas ever, even if its just cheese, its good! btw, if you go on restarant.com , you can get a half off certificate for dining in this rest!! all the better it can taste for half off, and if you dont like it, ah well, at least you didnt pay full price!

sliced pizza = cheap. they call it 'deep dish' yeah right. its the thinnest deep dish ive ever seen. but for a slice under $3 bucks, who can complain? the Rosatis slices a block away a waaay better.

we like to go here when we feel like going out for pizza and eats instead of ordering in... true its not as good as the more well known places but its tucked away a couple streets down from the touristy area of chicago so you can usually get a seat and a great pizza and actually be comfortable!

Pizza

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.

Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.

Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
