It's not gourmet and it's not expensive. It's solid cheap Chinese food. If it was more expensive I would give it a 3.

Ordered delivery from here last week. Nothing special but if you find yourself with a case of the late night munchies, such a this lone reviewer, give em a call. I enjoyed the beef fried rice, the rest of my food was just ok. Delivery took around the time that was quoted as well, just under an hour.

My go to Chinese place, Three Harmony, is closed on Sunday's so I have ordered from here twice and both times were nothing short of bad. Although today I experienced bad food and bad service. My condo is only about 800 sq ft, so even on my off days, I have mastered getting from one end to the other in less than 10 seconds. Well Mr. Impatient Driver pressed my buzzer and as I was going to let him in, he was already calling my cell phone AND pressing my neighbors buzzer! The sweet & sour soup was good, the dumplings were fine, but the steamed shrimp with vegetables was so overcooked that I was gagging after the 1st bite. I knew that I wasn't going to be able to eat it, so I called and asked them to either refund my money or bring me a new dish. The woman on the phone was nice and said they would send out a new order within 20 minutes. This time, Mr. Impatient Driver didn't even bother with my buzzer and just called my cell phone. I told him to press the buzzer, so I could let him in and then he started yelling something that I could not understand into the phone. Once he finally figured out how to properly operate the door, he ran up the stairs and shoved the food at me and walked back out, without saying a word to me! The food was slightly improved, but not good and the ridiculous attitude of the driver has turned me off from ever ordering from here again.

I actually quite enjoyed the fried rice and sweet and sour dishes, but my online ordering experience has been spotty. I ordered from their website using my Discover card which the site explicitly accepted. I then got a call from them telling me they don't take Discover and asking for another card. I would not mention this or review so poorly, except last night a delivery I ordered on their website and that they confirmed to my email never arrived. When I called after an hour and a half, they said the food would be here soon. When I called a half hour later they denied getting my order at all. It was difficult to understand the employee both times. I'm going to look for nearby Chinese place that is on GrubHub. The ordering process is much smoother there, and when my orders have been occasionally canceled they called and let me know, I could understand them on the phone, and they gave me a discount on my next order.

The orange chicken and General Tso's chicken were delicious! Crispy, great flavor, and large portions make it worth every penny. The crab rangoon was a little lackluster but super cheap. The sweet and sour sauce tasted a little like artificial cherries but was tolerable. Overall, a good experience, great food, and reasonably priced.

Basically, I chose this place for two reasons: 1) Their delivery charge and delivery minimums are low, 2) My favorite chinese takeout restaurant in college was called "Peking House", so I was hoping the name meant it'd be as good as my old favorite. I'm happy to say Peking Chinese Kitchen did not disappoint! The food is really inexpensive, and they only have a $7 delivery minimum which is great when you're only ordering for one. I hate having to get extra food I don't want, just so I can hit the delivery minimum. On top of that, the food was awesome! Crab rangoons (10 for $4... insane!) were still crispy and hot when they arrived. My only tiny complaint is that they were a little greasier than I would have liked. But if you like sweet and sour sauce, they give you about a quart of it. The sesame chicken was also delicious. The chicken was crisp white meat, which is always a pleasant surprise, and they really pack the to-go container so you're getting EASILY 2-3 meals worth of food in a single entree. The rice on it's own was slightly dry, but it was great when mixed with the sesame chicken sauce. Will definitely be ordering from here again!

This is a great little delivery place. If you're looking for some solid late night Chinese, I always order from here. The food is cheap, which is always a plus, but more importantly, the food is always good. Eventually the delivery driver started to recognize me (bad sign) because I order from here so much. In short, good and cheap with a friendly staff! I definitely recommend it!

  • Dantee A.

OK, so this guy tells me that the dumplings here are the size of toddler fists. (depending on the toddler, they could be huge or medium sized). Either way, $3 for 8 toddler-fist sized dumplings - they are worth it. Not the best I've eaten, but ok for $3. Fast delivery - about 30 min early! nice.

Food was terrible, starving teenagers wouldn't even eat it. Can NOT recommend.

  • Y. W.

Ordered from here from GrubHub. I had sweet & sour chicken and an egg roll. Food was not bad and prices were decent. Delivery guy acted weird and didn't speak at all, just handed me my food & ran off. Ok...

This food is not that great, in fact, it's lower-than-average quality (especially the meats) but for some reason I keep on coming back. Maybe it's the one free can of soda you get with a $15 order (just mention it when ordering and you get it!). But it can't be- am I that big of a sucker? It's also very consistent. You know what you are getting if you don't want to take any risks and not in the mood to try something new. Maybe that's it. Either way, I've gotten delivery from here about a dozen times in as many years and probably will continue...

  • C F.

Don't bother...there are much better places in the area. Greasy flavorless food is what you will get here. The woman at the register seems like she doesn't want to be there. Ordered an egg roll but when I got home it wasn't in the bag. Should of checked before I left because the woman before me almost left without her complete order. I ordered the sesame chicken, no flavor, the broccoli was pretty much non existent and was under the chicken and sauce so it was soggy. The white rice was overcooked and was almost mush. I would give them negative stars if was an option.

Ordered delivery from Peking one Saturday and found the experience to be fairly good. There were several of us ordering and everyone was satisfied with their choices and the price was very reasonable (especially the lunch special). Not necessarily the best Chinese food I've ever eaten, but a solid place to go back to.

  • Katelyn C.

Yummyy and affordable spring rolls! Very fast and somewhat friendly staff. My only complaint is the imitation crab used in the crab ragoon; please, fix this!

    (4)
  • Anna H.

WORST. FRIED RICE. EVER. There's nothing in it except for rice, a few slivers of onion, and whatever meat you want, and it's pretty much flavorless. However, they do get two stars for having Chow Mei Fun on their menu, which I've had a really hard time finding in Chicago for some reason. This place is only a couple of blocks from my house, so I'll probably be back at some point. I guess. *Sigh*

If MSG toxicity is possible, i will likely be suffering from it shortly. inexpensive? yes. fast delivery? yes. enjoyable? far from it.

After asking twice our delivery came with no chop sticks, no silverware, napkins, etc... When we called no one answered the phone. The fried rice was kinda blah/plain. Been looking for a good place in the city with good fried rice---can't say i'd recommend here. The search continues!!

I've lived in Chicago for 3+ years and have tried multiple Chinese restaurants for delivery, but never found a go to place. Until today. Peking has all three of my requirements for Chinese delivery: 1) A low order minimum - only $7. I usually order for just myself and hate having to order enough food for an army. 2) Size options. I like to order small sizes of a few dishes, so I get a variety and am not bored with the left overs. 3) Small orders of egg rolls. I'm never hungry for more than one and they're not as good when reheated. I ordered sweet and sour chicken, vegetable fried rice, and an eggroll and was pleased with all three. They were as good or better than the average Chinese restaurant and the prices were really reasonable. Bonus - the delivery was REALLY fast. I ordered at 4:30 on a Friday and it was here in just under 20 minutes. My only con is the chicken to rice ratio for the sweet and sour chicken order was off. I'd suggest ordering a second small order of rice.

I used to live around the corner from this place on Belmont for a few years but always ordered from other Chinese restaurants. My wife and I decided to try it one day and ordered carry out. I don't recall exactly what we ordered but I do recall the food was average at best. It was hot and served it's purpose (which was to make our stomachs shut the hell up) but definitely was not even close to being one of the better Chinese places around East Lakeview. New Peking on Broadway is much better as is the Canton Express just a block North on Halsted. So, if you're in a hurry and don't feel like walking or waiting for deliver, Peking Chinese will get you through the night... but you probably won't want any leftovers the next day.

I am a fan of Peking now. I went there for the first time this past weekend while nursing a hangover. I got a cashew chicken. It tasted solid and was a decent amount for the price. They also had coupons on the menu for 2 free egg rolls with a purchase of $10 or more. I was with my roommate, so we got an extra egg roll on top of the ones we got with our combo plates. I have found crab rangoons to be hit or miss when you go to Chinese restaurants. They are a hit here.

  • Joe G.

This place has your standard American Chinese food, and sometimes you crave it. If I'm in the mood for a good meal, I'll choose elsewhere. But if I don't feel like leaving the couch, I can always count on Peking Chinese Kitchen to offer me cheap, filling, tasty meals delivered right to my door. Delivery is fast, and their fees and minimums are small.

    (3)
  • Vanessa U.

It's your basic Americanized Chinese food. I ordered delivery at work, and I have to say, the lunch special portions are HUGE! If you're looking for an inexpensive, easy, and filling lunch, this is a safe bet.

  • Carey A.

We ordered online on Grubhub.com . Was going to be a 45 minutes til delivery, however, we received in 30 minutes. Orange chicken was delish as well as the veggie rolls! Not the best I have had but good for the price.

    (3)
  • Tim R.

Well if you like thick greasy breaded chicken then this is the place for you! Let me tell you: there is enough breading on one piece to cover an entire 10 piece chicken mcnugget meal. And the cheesy crab rangoons...well let's just say they should basically just be called cheese rangoons. I should have known to stay away with a name like that. Thank god I ordered a soda and extra fortune cookies!!! And best part is the fortune I received: "hope for the best, but prepare for the worst.". So true when ordering from this place!

    (1)
  • Resha B.

Not too shabby. It's the greasy stuff I love. The pot stickers are the bomb, and the beef and broccoli is yummskis. I order once a week generally, and it's always fast!

    (4)
  • Jason A.

Super tasty, but super greasy and a stomach ache is sure to follow 30 minutes after you're done. If you have a strong stomach, give it a go! If you have an ordinary stomach, you, like me will be debating if the intestinal distress is worth another tasty helping. Me, I'm still not sure.

We walked in for dinner. It smelled strongly of sewer gas. We walked out.

This place isn't all that great. BUT, it's not horrible. Typical order size, for orange chicken. It was a bit "tendon-y" and "Fatty" for me....maybe I just got a bad batch? Who knows. You get a free can of pop with your order, which is a nice touch. The people there aren't friendly....especially the 2 teenagers that work there. I'm guessing it's the owner's kids....and they are just NOT happy that they are there. Bottom line...I'd go here again. I've had better food, but like I said, it's edible. FYI, they don't take credit or debit card unless you order $12 worth of food....or agree to a surcharge. Both of which is in violation of their terms of agreement with MC/Visa. I will now get off my soapbox.

This is my go to chinese restaurant. Cheap order minimums, fast delivery and good food. This is standard americanized chinese food at its best.

  • m. d.

it seems to me, no matter where i am, the visual appearance of a food joint doesnt have anything to do with the food. i always enjoy my food from this place, as i live 1 block away, take out is very easy. Prices for the menu are competitive with every other Chinese place around the area - the lunch portions are great and the large orders are basically two meals...i do think the small portions are a bit overpriced but still keep my hunger satisfied. The wait is never long for take out, (never more than 15 min) overall a good place, good food.

    (4)
  • Bridgette K.

The price was good and the food was good. The crab Rangoon were pretty good and so was their vegetable egg rolls. The kung pao shrimp was alright but not the best I've had because I did have better. The beef and broccoli was tasty.

    (3)
  • Ashley T.

This place is delicious and the portions are huge. My go to Chinese take out, I love the sesame chicken!

    (5)
  • Christina E.

Meh, is right. This place is cheap, but that's about all its good for. The egg rolls and chicken dishes are average, but I agree with the other posters, the fried rice is terrible (which is what comes with the lunch combos). The fried rice almost had a charred or brunt taste, and was bright yellow in color. It's not the worst Chinese place, but there are definitely much better places in the area.

Now I'm not sure if this was purely coincidental, but several hours after eating here I was struck with a sickness unmatched by any sickness the world had seen before or will see again. Came here with my friend who is days away from increasing the world's population because as she so honestly proclaimed, being pregnant made her only crave disgusting things. In fact, her words when suggesting this place were "want to go to a really gross Chinese restaurant?". There were four tables, all of which were covered in reminants of every meal previously served that day. BUT there were people eating there. So I thought maybe it was one of those hidden gems where despite appearances, the food would be so outlandishly good, all else would be forgiven. But to be on the safe side, all I ordered was crab Rangoon, wonton soup, and a side of white rice. The total was somewhere around $7 which seemed crazy, especially when my order arrived. TEN very large crab Rangoon and a quart of sauce, big bowl of soup, big bowl of rice. But eating isn't always a numbers game. The crab Rangoon had a very chunky texture. In general in reminded me of tuna salad with lots of celery but with "crab" instead of tuna. The sauce was not traditional sauce but more like a giant vat of sweet and sour that was heavy on the pineapples. I picked apart a wonton before I decided not to eat it, because something about the color and smell was fishy. Inside the wonton was a brown orange piece of god-only-knows that had the texture and actually appearance of chewing gum. Even my white rice was more a grey color. I ate a few of the crab Rangoon and a few bites of rice and tried to focus on upholding a conversation with my friend. When she was done with hers she says "you didn't eat much. I don't blame you. I love this place but it's pretty gross, right?"

This is great fast food chinese, great prices, great portions. . .Egg Rolls, General Tso's Chicken and fried rice are really tasty! Fast delivery, nice delivery guy. . .

I ordered today for a late lunch via grub hub. Delivery estimate was an hour and ten minutes. Given that I was ordering at 2:30, a slow time for restaurants, I thought the food would arrive much faster than that.. Kinda disappointed that it ended up taking a little over that hour and ten minute estimate.. but I cant be too upset because I do understand the definition of estimate.. The prices are really cheap. Low minimum and relatively low delivery charge. As for the food, I might try this place again. Their chicken chow mein wasn't so good though...Crab rangoon was pretty typical, and the random container of white rice they gave me was actually very good. Its not the greatest sign when the white rice is what impressed me the most, but I'd give them another try. It'd be nice to find at least a few things on their menu that I liked so I could take advantage of their cheap prices.. Kind of sick of being ripped off for Chinese food.

    (3)
  • Jason D.

The flavor of the food isn't very good, and we couldn't get a smile or even more than one word at a time out of the people working there. They wouldn't make kung pao tofu. They have kung pao chicken on the menu and tofu dishes on the menu, but when I asked if it were possible she explained it like this: "No".

    (2)
  • Craig M.

Overpriced for the portion sizes, and closed on a Tuesday? Seriously, it's Tuesday right now and i'm f*cking starving for some crappy beef lo-mein. This is the second time they've upset me.

  • Nellie T.

I actually go to this place about once a month. It's not for everyone though. It is greasey, but it's cheap. They have combination meals for about $6-$7 that comes with a large egg roll, your entree, fried rice, and a fortune cookie. Lunch here also includes a drink. I've gotten a lot of things at this place and my favorite is the Seseame Chicken! It's just right. Just sweet enough and great mixed in with the fried rice. I also think the egg roll is one of the better ones I've had in the area. Keep in mind that this place is a pretty typical Chinese Take Out joint. I love that it's family owned and the same people are there virtually everyday. It is what it is. You get what you pay for here. So don't go out of your way to get it, but don't avoid it if you're hungry and not on a diet. Enjoy!

  • Stephanie M.

I'm pretty picky about my Chinese. This place is not the place to go if you're looking to dine in or get something very authentic or special. Their lunch specials are very affordably priced and they have a lot of options. I work very close to this place and they can have food ready very quickly. Once, I got so busy at work that I didn't pick up my food for 2 1/2 hours and it was still pretty good. My coworker and I couldn't decide what we wanted, so we both got a lunch special the other would like and split both. A nice experience and we both had leftovers.

  • Lauren P.

peking chinese is by far my favorite junky chinese take out place in the city. the portions are ridiculous, and they always seem to deliver in 30 minutes or less. another plus is the restaurant offers coupons for different spending levels. free items include fried rice, egg rolls or cans of pop. some of my favorite things at peking chinese are wonton soup, crab rangoons (every order has 10!) and sesame chicken.

not good! got order an hour and a half after i placed it. then i got the wrong order! food was so so

  • Sydney K.

This place serves your average greasy Chinese food. I've gotten takeout from this place, and it's about the same as other corner takeout joints I've frequented. The food was a little too greasy for my preference.

  • L D.

I love this place. Fast, quick and easy. Don't know why people leave bad reviews. We order weekly. This is a solid chinese food place!

    (5)
  • Rachel T.

I ordered the sweet and sour chicken special that came with fried rice and a soda. The sweet and sour chicken was okay. I liked how they served the chicken separate from the sweet and sour sauce for dipping. It prevented the chicken coating from getting soggy. But, there was so much coating that I felt like I barely had any chicken. Their fried rice is horrible here. I've never eaten fried rice like this before. It's literally yellow rice with raw onions and had a very unpleasant flavor. I was very disappointed. Save yourself and just go with the white rice.

Great lunch specials!!! We ordered sweet and sour chicken, best mono chicken, orange chicken and potstickers!!! All were so great!!!! Highly recommended to come for lunch!!!! Dinner may be good too

  • Nichole F.

Ordered from Peking Chinese Kitchen. Delivery was super fast. It only took a half an hour - awesome! We ordered a little bit of everything. The things that you should order are the boneless spare ribs (nom nom nom!!), general tsao chicken (fried, crunchy perfection) and the lo mein (we got the combination kind but I bet any kind would be delicious). Those are winners!! Now there were losers in the dinner game too. Here they are - egg rolls, beef and vegetables and fortune cookies. All were bland and not worth the calories.

    (3)
  • Daniel N.

I'm all for good valued, take out Chinese that tastes decent but this place was terrible. We were on the go and decided to grab some roasted pork and some chicken fried rice. First, we noticed down the road that both orders were pork fried rice, no chicken. Second, there were inedible nasty pieces of pork and onion. Lastly, the flavor was lacking, very bland. The only reason this place is getting 2 stars instead of 1 is because the price was very cheap for the quantity of food. This does not look appealing for dining in and the staff could be more friendly.

    (2)
  • Cheyenne R.

Let me begin by saying that I have not eaten here in over a year but it is still as amazing as I remember. I don't understand the other reviews here about the service or the quality of food but from my experience both have been exceptional. I ordered through grubhub today at 4:23 and received my order in full at 4:50. If that's not speedy service then I don't know what is. My girlfriend and I ordered general tso's chicken, pan fried dumplings, combo egg foo young, sweet and sour chicken, and bbq rib tips. It was all phenomenal especially the general tso's and the egg foo young. If you love Americanized chinese food then this is the place for you. Sweet, salty, spicy goodness. Oh and for a pro tip get a combo with lo mein instead of fried rice. Thank me later.

  • Caress T.

Meh. The food was okay. Too bland. I had the chicken fried rice. There was definitely enough, but it was really bland. Nothing special about the restaurant or service... nothing special period. A good place to go if you're hungry and have $5 to spend... because you really just can't do that at McDonald's anymore... In all seriousness, it's Lakeview. There are so many good places to eat. Skip this one.

    (2)
  • Monica G.

We always make our own entrees at home and order sides, so I have no clue about any entree! But the sides were awesome! For $12 we got 10 crab rangoons, 8 dumplings and 3 spring rolls. Not the best quality in the world but definitely worth it.

  • Eddie S.

I just ordered beef fried rice, garlic sauce with chicken, and Szechuan beef for delivery. The food arrived within 30 minutes, which was amazing. What's not so amazing - delivery driver was rude, and all of the food is now in the garbage. I am a huge fan of greasy, unhealthy Chinese food when I want to splurge (or am recovering from a hangover :)), but this was the worst Chinese food I have ever had. The fried rice is bland, the "spicy" Szechuan beef is tasteless. Worst $26 I have ever spent.

  • Sus K.

I can't say anything for the customer service or delivery, as I usually walk in and pick up the food. but as far as greasy, terrible for, but delicious westernized Chinese food goes, this is on point. and unbelievably cheap, As far as Lakeview goes, there aren't a lot of options for Chinese food. I've had Jin Asian Cuisine on Belmont (pretty bad), Mark's Chop Suey (mediocre), and Ping Pong. Which are really some of the only, few options in Lakeview (with a few others I haven't tried). Ping Pong, is great, but not Westernized Chinese, and is a little too classy for occasions that you want plain takeout like Sweet and Sour Chicken, Fried Rice, and Crab Rangoon. As to the people who complain about Pad Thai, I would say it makes zero sense to order Thai food from a Chinese restaurant run by Chinese people when there are 20 other Thai restaurants like Joy's or Diva in the area. But seriously, at what other restaurant would you be able to get Broccoli Beef, a fried rice, and a can of Coke for $6 which runs me about the same or less than my order from Subway. You can eat for three days on $14 bucks, like the last time I got an order of Fried Rice, an Egg Roll, Sweet and Sour Chicken, and ten huge Crab Rangoons for $14. From any where else in the area, that may have run me at least $25-$35. Although, I'll admit that it looks a little sketchy, it's extremely affordable and delicious and I would say its worth at least giving a chance to since it is so cheap. I passed it up for the past two years because of appearance, until one day on a bad week I decided to give it a chance. Now I frequent it. DON'T BE AFRAID TO TRY IT

    (5)
  • Tomm O.

Their food is disgusting. awful. Bland. Tasteless. Lots of carrots and celery. Boring. Bland, dark sauces. From a can? They also have a maniac drive who is reckless, dangerous, has almost run over pedestrians, runs red lights and is going to kill someone. DO NOT BUY anything from this restaurant because they have such a maniac, dangerous driver. If you order food for delivery, he may kill someone delivering it to you. I am not exaggerating.

  • Lisa H.

i don't know any Chinese place that can mess up fried rice, but this place managed it. the rice was burnt tasting and inedible. the mushu pork - way too salty and also inedible. they didn't bother to deliver our soup either. stay FAR AWAY!

    (1)
  • Ese U.

I don't even know what to say. I ordered food and never received it. I called the place probably 15-20 times and did not get an answer. If I could, I would give this place 0 stars. I can't comment on the food though, just that the service was non existent and since I waited till late to order everything is now closed.

    (1)
  • Jenni F.

This is a great value for Chinese food in Lakeview. It's not the absolute best I've ever had, but it's still pretty delicious. The lunch specials are a great value too. I love egg foo young and theirs is good. The place is small and quiet which I prefer. And the staff is friendly and pleasant.

  • Jessalynn V.

It gets three stars here on Yelp, and three and a half on GrubHub, so maybe we ordered the wrong thing, or caught them on a bad day. They delivered on time, but the guy called me, I went outside, and he wasn't there. After a minute or two, I started to call him back, and he showed up. It was confusing. The pad thai consisted of huge thick greasy squishy egg noodles, an odd sauce and no peanuts, and the fried rice had big slices of lettuce in it, and I think I saw only one bit of egg. I'm not picky, but I didn't eat it, because it pretty much wasn't what I ordered, that is unless all the other places I order pad thai and fried rice from aren't doing it right. This place wasn't for me.

  • Dave J.

Wow terrible, greasy place with awful delivery people. Ive had problems with every delivery ive had. I always give them a chance but after tonights experience, i cant keep ignoring the elephant in the room. The delivery guy called me and seemed to be speaking in russian. I said huh huh and he was like "whatever fuck off idiot". After so many bad experiences with delivery from this place i would think they would raise standards for hiring delivery staff. When i called, the chinese woman insisted on arguing that because i gave a tip then the delivery guy was not in the wrong. Whatever guys. There are plenty of other waaaay better chinese places in the small town of chicago haha.

    (1)
  • Mike Y.

The only reason I give this place 2 stars is because of the quick speed of delivery! The food is awful!! I ordered the pepper steak and hot & sour soup. Somehow both dishes tasted like burnt toast.... You would think the massive amounts of MSG they use at least adds some flavor :/... Plus the extremely sweaty delivery driver was very angry with me that he had to go up 4 floors of stairs.

    (2)
  • Nicholas A.

The customer service at this place is horrible. I ordered regular Pad Thai and the dish that was delivered was clearly not Pad Thai. When I called to inquire, the lady who took my order rudely informed me that it was "my fault" and that she "didn't have time to fix my mistakes." I've ordered here twice before, and while those orders were technically correct, the food was never even above average. This 3rd try was definitely the last. Won't bother with a place that both delivers sub-par food and treats their customers so disrespectfully. Not going here again!

I finally understand what an egg roll is supposed to be. This place has the best veggie ones: thin, lightly fried rice paper wrapping up a hearty bundle of fresh cabbage, mushroom, and carrot. Who would have guessed from this little shop? And for $1.30, no complaints. The rest is tasty and relatively cheap for the neighborhood and their hours are really great for busy folks. Service is sassy and sincere and gets the job done. You will wait a minute for your order because it is all being made freshly right in plain sight. To the many unhappy Grubhub patrons, I believe you problem lies with your middleman of choice. If I were the owner of a small, independent business, I wouldn't sign onto Grubhub, Groupon, or the like. The businesses always get hurt.

Ordered delivery from here for the first time this evening. Based on their yelp reviews, I was excited to try a new takeout restaurant. However, upon delivery I was extremely disappointed. If you want pad Thai, don't order from here. They use noodles that are 3x as wide as normal pad Thai and use a sauce similar to lo mein. The only reason I've given them 2 stars is their prompt delivery and their side of fried rice.

I just ordered delivery from here for the first time. While I enjoyed the food, the delivery driver was completely rude. He banged on my door and waited about 2 seconds to bang on it some more. Then he basically threw my food at me and left. This type of poor service leaves me not wanting to try this place ever again.

HAve lived in old town since the summer of 2012- Peking was usually my goto for quick and cheap chinese food. I have noticed over the last 6 mos- 1 year the quality of food is pretty poor. For example, the mongolian beef is good but the veggies are usually soggy and they put way way too much sauce on everything. The shrimp fried rice is nothing more than tasteless brown rice with 4 shrimp sitting on the top of it to make it look like there are more in the rice underneath. The egg rolls are by far the best part and I cant really say anything bad about them. Sadly this will be my last experience with peking. There are a few other joints in old town but havent tried them yet but will be doing so next time. Peking -easy on the sauce -no more soggy veggies -if the customer pays extra for shrimp fried rice put more than a few shrimp in it chabba

Have gone here before for takeout and live in the area for 30 years. They have screwed up the last two takeout orders and blamed me twice. This place will charge you more given any chance and often forget sides with a takeout. Avoid this place at all costs! Food average and person handling the cash register has an arrogant attitude and blames the customer. AGAIN, AVOID.

This is the best Chinese takeout in the city. I love it, I recommend it, I swear by it. (In fact I have often joked that I can't move away from the Boystown/Belmont neighborhood because I need to be within Peking's delivery radius!) The food is inexpensive, always tasty, and the portions are huge (we always have leftovers). The delivery is (normally) very speedy. I've had a couple of long waits and miscommunicated orders, but hey, in the 5 years I've lived in the area, I've probably ordered from Peking 75 times, so it's not so bad. I recommend the sweet & sour chicken, sesame chicken, & crab rangoon. My guy loves the seafood lo mein. But personally, I've never tried anything here that I didn't like, so I feel comfortable assuming everything here is really tasty. They have regular coupons for free cans of pop or free fried rice, depending on how much you order, so make sure you ask to use one.

I only give this place 1 star and that's just because they're so close to my apartment. The prices are reasonable but I got FOOD POISONING from the moo shu chicken. Either they don't cook their food all the way or they are unsanitary. When I told them, they didn't care and refused to refund my money. BEWARE!

Not Even the Best Shitty Chinese Food in Chicago While at work one busy, hungry night, a friend recommended this place; so we all placed our orders on-line. When someone asked him about it, he said, "Oh yeah, it's the best shitty Chinese food in Chicago." That raised a flag. And sure enough, the food was terrible across the board. Heaped dishes of noodles and rice sat around the office barely touched until they were thrown away. We all went hungry that night. Pick another spot.

Fast and cheap. Echoing what others have said, it's cheap and greasy-- two ingredients to aid your hangover and/or lazy self. Most combo plates run you under $8 and you get an egg roll and fortune cookie, too. You can pick from any fried rice and pay a quarter or two extra for any special fried rice or lo mein (lo mein is a plenty!) You're easily leftover with enough food to last you throughout your hangover, or share with others if you're kind. I had plenty of Szechuan chicken to go around, the broccoli was really good there was a good amount of it! I may save Peking for hungover days only--don't wanna ruin it :)

Food was delivered earlier than said. Sweet & sour chicken was delicious. Everything was great with a even better price range. I recommend the crab ragoons 10 for $4

DOUBLE CHECK YOUR ORDER! Our experience here was horrible. At the time, I was 9 months pregnant and had a random craving for Chinese chow mien noodles. We went to this place, ordered one of their lunch chow mien specials, and waited for a good long while before it was ready (I might also add that it was hotter inside than it was outside - and outside was over 80 degrees). Well, after about 20 minutes, they finally called us up. Normally I like to double check my order just in case something is wrong, but in this case the food was in a brown paper bag and stapled shut, so I decided to just wait til we got home. BIG MISTAKE. We got home and opened the bag and found a bowl of slimy, goopy chicken and cabbage, and NO chow mien (the other thing we had ordered, was correct, I will add). Well, my husband called the restaurant and the woman who answered insisted that what we had WAS chow mien and that what we should have ordered was lo mien. I am part Chinese and grew up in Hawaii where there is PLENTY of Asian influence, and I have NEVER seen "chow mien" like this. There were no noodles whatsoever. Even after Googling it to make sure that we hadn't misunderstood all this time what chow mien really was, there were NO pictures of slimy, goopy chicken, and tons of pictures of noodles! As a pregnant woman, this was EXTREMELY disappointing! But even if I wasn't pregnant it would have been an unhappy situation. I guess what I am most upset about too is that they did nothing to try to fix it. Basically it was our fault, and they are the only Chinese restaurant in Chicago or maybe even in the world who identify goopy, slimy chicken and cabbage as "chow mien." Very, very disappointed and not worth going back again!

The delivery was surprisingly fast, but I was very unsettled with the delivery individual, who was unsettlingly rude and slightly frightening. I heard a door in my apartment building open and heard a male voice swearing (which in uncharacteristic for my building), and next the delivery boy was banging on my door, and when I answered he basically threw the bag of food at me and yelled that he called me too many times. I checked my phone in front of him showing that I never received a call, verified the number was correct on his slip, but he was unsettling. He must have a cell carrier that requires dialing a "1" before the number and was not doing this, or something, but I will probably not order from here again based on this unsettling experience.

First of all I would like to say that this is probably the worst review I had to write, This place is ridiculous. This place messed up my order twice due to a peanut allergy I had requested ...the lady calls me back and leaves me a voicemail calling me a b...and states that I should go ti hell . How rude? Yeah I know. Not even does she apologize but she tells me I am wrong and that I should pay more attention nd have manners? Excuse me since when did u have manners...? I don't think this part of Asia has ANY COSTUMER SERVICE SKILLS. Disgusting! When I ask to speak to a manager the hostess who took my order wrong of course hangs up on me twice? I have never had a boss from a place leave me a voice mail and leave me that kind of voice mail.

I gave it a 5 star cause it was a great value. Prices are reasonable, and the lunch special portions are huge. The only complaint I have is the flimsy cheap forks. So if you're going to eat in, bring your own fork.

I order delivery from here WAY too often. At least once a month, sometimes twice a week. This place is very hit or miss depending on the day of the week and the chef on duty. If you get the good chef, everything is perfectly cooked and the heat on the spicy foods are spot on. If you get the bad chef, burnt tasting, oily, over cooked food. Ugh. It's so frustrating. The soups and steamed dumplings are my favorite. The house special soup has no noodles, just beef, chicken and shrimp with vegetables. Love it, 10 huge crab rangoons for $4?! Yup. The boneless pork rib lunch special is my guilty pleasure. It's fatty delicious sweet and salty. I appreciate they use fresh vegetables rather than frozen. Anything from the diet menu is really good!! The size of the steamed shrimp on the diet menu is twice as big as in the lunch/ dinner combos. Brown rice is available for a small extra fee. The menu items that I've had that are just a tad amiss: The moo shu. It's just not like typical moo shu. It comes with BBQ sauce. So weird. The egg foo young had a bizarre sauce. I can't quite put my finger on what is off in the flavor but it's not good. The fried shrimp off the appetizer menu was coated in a pound of breading. Ick. The portions are huge and the prices are cheap. The dinner and lunch combos are enough to serve 2-3 people.

This is your usual (but fantastic) Westernized Chinese delivery joint/hole in the wall. The General Tso was okay - really sweet and fiery. The chicken broccoli, giant crab rangoons, sesame chicken were wonderful. They are also absurdly cheap. Infinite stars for a place that also truly understands what spicy means!

Amazing! The best Chinese food in Chicago. After moving here I have tried so many places and was disappointed every single time. Peking Chinese Food is your best choice. I have been ordering from them for years now. Prices are reasonable and the food is as amazing as it can get for a little place in Lakeview. Lunch specials are the best! Super cheap and you get tons of food. If you appreciate good Chinese food, thats not sloppy, tastes weird, chews weird or looks bizarre this is the place for you! I will not be disappointed!!! YUM

First, I don't think I'm just a fan. I'm like the die hard fan who dresses up as a sesame chicken for these guys. They are good. You can talk all you want about this place not being authentic Chinese, but if you walked in then you obviously knew that in the first place, after all, this little sanctuary in almost a dungeon, just a little hole in the street. But man, it's a huge treasure! I've been here twice, had it once for take out, and ordered about 20+ deliveries. Oh yeah, you read that right. I'm more than just your typical regular. I love Chinese, and what makes this particular restaurant better than others is a combination of things: 1) Consistency. All the time I've experienced the same savory moment with these guys. Their meals are solid, you get what you always get, no funny surprises, no sauce going bad. It's all good. I've tried their 4 Seasons twice (amazing by the way). When I order though, I go for the sesame chicken, the Peking duck, or the Hunan duck. They are my personal favs, and are always guaranteed the taste just like they did the first time. The duck is particularly good, crispy and tangy, a delicious treat! I've also tried their orange beef, sweet and sour chicken, mongolian beef, and their shrimp with lobster sauce...but none of these capture the essence of the place. 2) Huge portions. I'm serious, you will get a box to go, and if you order out then you'll have enough for two meals. How cool is that? 3) CHEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAPP! If you take their lunch deal, you get a combination plate + soda + egg roll for any price between 4-6 bucks. Hell yeah. If you miss it, then their meals are usually under 6 bucks anyway. If you want appetizers, get their crab rangoon, is very well done, and they have a great deal on it (4 bucks for 10 pieces). 4) Super fast delivery. Seriously. Trust me, if you want Chinese but want it cheap and fast and just the way you remember it, this is a place for you.

I've order from here a couple of times and can't say I was psyched about the experience. If you are looking for cheap, greasy chinese food I guess it's fine, but I've had much better.

I'm giving this place 5 stars because they're thorough. I ordered Chow mein through Grubhub and received a call 3 minutes later, because they wanted to confirm if I really wanted the crispy chow mein noodles or the soft lo-mein (I wanted the latter). That's true customer appreciation. Keep up the good work Peking!

I was starving and decided to give this place a try since I'd already gotten some great food down the street at Canton Express. It was past the lunch special time, so I got my old standby - combo fried rice. It was not as good as what I'd gotten at Canton Express, but edible. Next time, it'll be Canton Express!

YES! first place i ordered from when i abruptly moved to the north side and i was never happier. i've lived in chicago for 3 years and this is my favorite chinese food place. great lunch specials and the delivery fee is worth it! let's just say i've ordered WAY too many times in the last 2 months. fried dumplings were the closest thing to my favorite ones and michigan and i've spent years...yes, years trying to find something close. i leave in 2 weeks and i will have to order from here at least twice. sesame chicken and roasted pork lo mein are my favorites : )

4 stars because of price, speed, and quantity. However, this isn't the best Chinese food out there. One or more of the chefs need to learn how to cook rice. I get undercooked rice 3/4 of the time. Specifically the brown rice. I can vouch for the chicken though. That is the safe bet here for sure.

Basic Americanized Chinese food. We are new to the neighborhood and looking for a quick take out place - fast, convenient, cheap and the sesame chicken is great.

I love Americanized Chinee food. Egg foo yong should be fried and served with thick brown gravy, sweet and sour should have tangy red sauce and chow fun (thick) noodles should be lightly charred from the wok. Check! We get takeout from here all the time, it's our guilty pleasure. There aer coupons on grubhub and we are never disappointed. Delicious, fatty, salty, sweet, everything bad in one. Love. This.

The best Chinese delivery I've had. Better than the one I used to think was the best. I had the chicken with string beans. The chicken was tender and the green beans were fresh and cooked perfectly. They were crisp and delicious. The egg drop soup was perfect. The crab rangoon was, too. I ordered through Foodler, and my food was here in half the time that was estimated.

Messed up my order twice in a row... said I ordered wrong, refused to say sorry and insisted I owed an apology. Food is not great but is cheap but I don't think it is clean. Seems so dirty in there and seems like a health hazard. Save your money and go somewhere else.

I ordered from this restaurant a few times on grub hub. It was edible but not impressive. The food was bland and cheap. Recently, I ate in at this location. And let me tell you, this restaurant gives new meaning to the term "dirty spoon". It was filthy. But I was hungry so I ate there anyway. As I'm drinking my water, I notice black specks floating in my cup. Gross. Also, the chicken was oddly shaped and suspiciously rubbery. I will not be eating here again.

My boyfriend and I ordered delivery from these guys last night and if I had written a review of them by about 2am last night I may have rated them higher- and then I got food poisoning! I had shrimp toast which was over fried and burnt and General Tso Chicken which was ok. Neither item was particularly hot but I was hungry... Delivery came decently quick but I don't think I will be ordering from these guys again after the night I had...

If you want standard greasy "chinese food," this is the right place. I had been ordering from Great Dragon during my time in Chicago and since it is quite a trek out of the way, it always would take about an hour for delivery. I knew there had to be another option in my neighborhood and I found it. The first time I ordered in, standard hole in the wall seating area. A little bigger than average. Since then, I have only gotten take out. It arrives to me in about 20 minutes, blazing hot, in insulated bags. Crab rangoon, 10, 10! for $4.00. Sesame chicken is awesome, and can make for like 3 meals. Egg rolls are great, with a hint of sweetness. They give you a huge tub of the bright red sweet and sour sauce and give you the packets as well. If you order online there are coupons for free stuff, too! Did I mention this place is super reasonably priced? HUGE thing of sesame chicken (comes with rice), extra side of rice, 4 egg rolls (2 free egg rolls), 10 crab rangoon, delivery charge, and a 20% tip for under $25.

MIEB. (That's Meh I've experienced better.) I'll probably give them another try some day, but tonight's takeout didn't impress. The pint of shrimp lo mein (I liked that they offer pint sizes of their food) wasn't bad, but the tofu pad thai was very unappealing! Greasy and gooey noodles with a sweet and thin peanutty sauce. And green bell peppers. Not a fan. Service was quick, prices cheap. But now I feel blah =(

why aren't there more reviews for this restaurant?? Probably because it's a hole in the wall that gets looked over because, well, it's a hole in the wall...I haven't ordered Chinese since college, so I decided to give them a shot. They are now my go to place when I'm craving Chinese! This food was amazing and it always arrives hot! Crab rangoons were delicious, beef chow mein was good and beef was tender, wonton soup was good and meaty, and the pepper steak with onion was delicious too! Bbq spareribs were not my favorite and why this place gets 4 stars instead of 5. All in all, this place has great Chinese and shouldn't be overlooked! Portions are ginormous (and cheap!), especially for lunch specials! You will have leftovers for days!

It used to be a decent place for Chinese food 10-15 years ago. About 7 years ago it got really bad and we stopped ordering from them. I thought I might give a shot again. Now it is horrible. The egg roll was soggy with dominating sour cabagge taste. The chicken wings nasty, fried too long, dry and chewy. Hunan shrimp was hardly passable. Even the rice had a strange flavor. Quality of most ingredients is very poor. I will never order from this place again.

If you check this place out from the front - slightly grimy - and you realize that it's no more than what it appears - inauthentic Chinese food that we all remember from our non-Chinese chiidhoods - you might like this place. It's standard slop Chinese - but that can really hit the spot if it's what you're in the mood for. The Hot n' Sour soup was very good, my Beef with String Beans was excellent, and a GIANT portion. The BBQ spare ribs were inhaled by the mini one with us - and a stolen bite by me confirmed they were delicious. Seven Star's Garlic Triple was really great - beef, seafood and chicken with GARLIC. The place is so basic, you almost want to BYO silverware. Great for dinner or late-late night.

Basic Americanized Chinese food, done right? Exactly what we were looking for tonight. Arrived 12 minutes after I submitted my order for delivery, I know because Seamless gives you a timestamp on the last order page. Amazing. Sure, I only live a mile a way, but still. I was thrilled that they offered smaller sizes, pints, which are enough for an average sized meal. If you want leftovers, go up a size to the very reasonably priced quarts. Food arrived piping hot in a typical package. The food is simple American style Chinese food, although we ordered pretty basic items, Sweet & Sour Chicken and Beef w/ Broccoli. I am tempted to try the Peking duck to see if some of the more traditional dishes are closer to authentic, maybe next time. Chicken had a little bit of sweetness in the breading and the sauce was on the side. Fresh and crispy, nothing to complain about. Beef was in a typical sauce, a little bland, but fine. Broccoli was fresh and still a little crispy, perfect for me. The egg drop soup came with won ton noodles, which is good, but I prefer a preparation that throws in a few vegetables which seems hard to find. The want to be foodie in me wanted to drop them to a 4*, because the food is nothing special, but I didn't order from this place to be wowed by chef driven cuisine.

Annals in Sloppy Retailing: So is the real reason you don't give out receipts at your carry-out joint so that customers won't know if you've slipped in something on their bill that they didn't order. Ridiculously affordable for the amount of food you receive! They offer combination specials at all hours - not just at lunch. I ordered the General Tso's special and it came in a huge container and also included an egg roll on the side. I wasn't expecting much taste wise, but it's good!

  • Jeremy D.

Really not horrible for the price, and they allow a smaller orders than many to be delivered (if you're feeling lazy). I've had better, sure...but when I'm not willing to go out and feel like chinese, this place fills the void.

Ordered delivery from here for my first experience with them. I was drawn to them because it's hard to find a Chinese place that offers brown rice, and I was initially pleased that the food arrived early and that the order of crab rangoon was huge. Then I noticed there were no veggies in the sweet and sour chicken, which seems to be standard elsewhere, and I was disappointed to just have pieces of fried, battered chicken. I tried a bite, and something was off. Either the brown rice or the chicken or the saucy had a weird, almost spearmint-y flavor to it. So I tried a crab rangoon, which also tasted a little weird...it actually seemed to have too much flavor, like heavy onion or celery flavor which I've never experienced before. I tried to keep eating, but couldn't finish half a plate (and there was enough food for 2-3 plates). So disappointed, and now I feel sick...not like food poisoning sick...just too much greasy fried junk. Since this was my first experience, it could be that they were having an off night or I didn't order items that they make especially well...but I honestly won't be ordering again to find out if that's the case.

Delivery was SUPER fast. Steamed dumplings were good and crab rangoons were great! The sauce on the General Tsao's chicken was not good at all - tasted like it was from a jar, and the chicken w/ green beans was tasteless. Would not order again.

  • Stephen K.

Excellent greasy Chinese food. General Tso's? Sesame? If it's been fried and covered in sauce, it's delicious, I guarantee it! Delivery is always on time, and they've never messed up an order. If you live in the neighborhood, make it your Chinese place.

  • Jason G.

little disappointed. I ordered won ton soup, egg roll and chicken chop suey. The delivery came VERY fast on a weekend night, and the food was hot. Thank you. Egg roll was decent, but not very good. It lacked any kind of flavor and substance. Won ton soup was oddly more ginger kind of flavored than what I have been used to. After doctoring it up myself, it tasted a little better. Ordered fried rice, but got white rice. White Rice smelled like feet and vinegar. UN REAL. I could not even eat it based on the smell. Chop suey was a 2 out of 5. Average. Would have been better with gravy.

  • Laura M.

Horrendous. Terrible food, worse service. We ordered a takeout consisting of shrimp chow mein, BBQ ribs, Peking duck and chicken curry. Every dish was vile and inedible...we literally didn't eat it. BBQ ribs were overcooked, duck was soggy, curry tasteless and chow mein...wow...never seen anything like it. A brothy mess. I call them up to complain thinking they will offer either a refund or some replacement (hopefully improved) food but no. The 'manager' proceeded to spend the next 10 minutes shouting that 'I don't understand menus', 'I'm not giving you a refund just because you don't like the food' and 'I don't have the time to talk to you, goodbye.' Hmmm, talk about customer service. TERRIBLE, ignore this at your peril!

  • Kyle C.

Mongolian beef was awesome. Chicken chop suey was amazing but there was very little chicken in it. Egg rolls were alright. Arrived faster than estimate and is decently priced. Not gourmet food but it gets four stars as Chinese take out.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
